Great teacher, picky grader but gives lots of oppurtunities to earn bonus points. Take advantage of them, participate in class and get all your work in on time and it's an easy A.
First, she's extremely hot. Secondly, she knows her material very well. Thirdly, she very hot. Seriuosly though, she is an excellent teacher with a lot of future potential. If you talk a lot in class, to her, she'll love you.
Elizabeth Stansell has to be the best English teacher at Clemson. If you like writing, she will show you ways to grow as a better one. And if you don't like writing you can do the assignments and still get out the class with an A. Many extra credit opportunities! Take advantage of office hours and talk in class and you'll get an A easy.
Elizabeth Stansell is a very good professor. She knows what she is talking about and always is willing to help you. She grades pretty easy but still teaches you how to write better. You will learn a lot from her class. You can easily get an A but you have to try for it.
The class may have been interesting, I didn't pay much attention because I was staring at her the majority of the time. She is extremely hot and a very nice person too. I recommend her as a prof. very much. It's a discussion based course and if you're not into that stuff you can just stare at her like I did. Take her class and sit in the front
Great. She loved what she taught. All you have to do is read most of the stuff and speak up in class. Its not too bad. Got an A.
She helped out a lot, was very easy to get an A in her class.
Very good at helping students analyze the material for themselves, and very helpful when meanings are obscured.
She keeps the class involved which made for great class discussions. Most people got an A (it wasn't difficult) as long as you turned work in on time and put forth some effort. Really enjoyed the textbook also.
Extremely helpful, lots of office hours! Made readings interesting even if they were boring. Made readings comprehensive like the stuff I read in high school, but didn't understand. Strict on tardies. Does take attendance!! Generally just an understanding teacher. Wish there were more like her!
Ms. Stansell is a great teacher. There's a lot of reading but the amount for each class is reasonable. She gives pop quizzes every so often and her grading is kinda tough but if you read it and actually put some thought into your answers it's OK. She's very thoughtful and down-to-earth. Definitely take her!
Evil. Judgmental. Rude but smart and I did respect her. I found she was a tougher grader than most of the other 103 t.a.'s. try to find someone else if you want an A.
Ms Stansell kind of scares me, but she's still really nice. I hate discussion based classes, but somehow hers was ok. You'll get an easy A as long as you put some effort in, too.
Just read the books and you can get an A. I didn't even have 3 of the books and still almost got an A. Hottest teacher at Clemson makes class easier to go to.
Very easy class! Very interesting books to read and discussion is fun. Read the assignments and come to class for the quizzes and you'll get an easy A. She's very strict on attendance.
There is a lot of reading but she goes over all of it in class and makes sure that everyone gets the important points. The exams are only hard because they are essays but otherwise the information comes directly from class and lecture. There are lots of quizzes which are a pain but overall an interesting class.
Really loved her! So nice and helpful, willing to work to make you a better writer. Class was dicusssion based and everyone in the class really got to know each other. Very easy to talk to and teaches what is important.
The class is discussion based, if you want an A then be sure to contribute, participation makes up a pretty large percentage of your grade. Overall a very easy class. You have to write 2 out of class essays and an in class essay for the midterm and final. She's a bit of a tough grader when it comes to papers, but nothing too harsh.
you better talk every single class and be unique!!! i thought i talked so much people were annoyed but i still ended up with a 90 for participation. also dont miss anymore absenses then allowed because she will deduct 5 points off your FINAL grade. hard grader on papers but over all good teacher
Doesn't really require attendance just would like to know in advance if you will be unable to attend so she can answer any questions you might have missed. If you do the reading and participate in class you can get an A or B. Participation in class discussion is a big part of the grade. Final in easy and test are two in class essays.
ridiculously tough grader. she takes this class way too seriously. and you basically have to talk the whole class to get an A for participation. she hates tardies and she's a ****. take someone else if you want this class to be the joke its supposed to be!
I got an A on the midterm and both essays, which were the only graded assignments. But she killed my average with the participation grade. Apparently you have to be one of those people who talks more than she does to make an A in participation. Dont take her unless you think talking is more important than reading or writing in English.
she doesn't shut up
A lot of people on here are saying you need to talk every class to get a good participation grade - this is totally incorrect. I said something maybe every two or three classes. Just try to be insightful or say something opposite what the rest of the class is saying and you'll do fine. Talking a lot and wasting time does not equal contributing.
Duh the class is discussion based - it's English! If you don't like to talk in class, you can do a blog and earn full participation. She is a very good, reasonable teacher. People who say otherwise were looking for an easy A - Professor Stansell HATES people who don't take her class seriously...as she should because she deserves better. Take her!
Loved this class! of course you have to discuss stuff. You're constantly going over your reading. How else would she grade you. 2 essays, midterm, option final(w/A in class)& participation. It is easy to get an A in here and the books aren't all that bad. Offers xtr credit with a discussion blog! LOVE HER!
Great professor. She really opens your eyes to some interesting issues you probably otherwise wouldn't think about. If you do your work as you are supposed to and pay attention, the class is an easy A and you will learn a lot. Definitely recommend her.
Great professor and very good at what she does. The class is discussion based so do the reading and as long as you try to make a comment or interesting question every class you will be fine. She is an awesome professor! Take her class!
Prof. Stansell was a really fun teacher to have. Basically you read the books, poems, and short stories and talk about them in class. Therefore, it's recommended to actually do the reading and have something to say. She's really nice so just say something reasonably intelligent most classes and you'll be fine.
Participation is 30% of your grade. Read the books and say at least one thing in class and you'll have an A. The books she choose are pretty interesting to (mostly post-apocalypse kind of stuff)
Fantastic teacher and great at leading student discussion. The texts were usually interesting. Can be a bit arbitrary when assigning grades, and is toughh on essays. Not impossible to do well in this class if you put the time in. Very sweet lady, tolerated the weird ass kids like a saint.
Your grade is based mainly on papers. She has no tests and is fair on her paper grading. She will treat you like an adult, unlike most professors at Clemson. Beware--she's very meticulous with attendance, and make sure you bring in a hard copy of your reading material. Only used text book a hand full of times. I would take her again. Be creative!
Really nice professor. Only strict on attendance, and make sure you bring a HARD COPY of the readings to class. Fair grader. Grade is mainly based on your papers.
I really liked this class. Interesting readings and all we really did was talk about them in class. She's very nice and wants you to do well. Essays are kind of tricky, and can screw up your grade since there are very few graded assignments. Tests were not difficult. Attendance is mandatory.
Good teacher, willing to help in any way. If you read what she assigns, then you will do well on the quizzes she gives. One of my easier classes for freshman year.
Great teacher. Very nice. The readings are super interesting. Kind of a tough grader but will give you helpful feedback if you ask her for it.
A very lovely woman who knows her craft. You would be wise to not let her beautiful face convince you other wise.
I LOVED prof Stansell! I took this class online during a summer minimester. Although the daily blog posts were time consuming, I managed to earn an A on each of them. She is understanding and makes the class interesting. Easy A when focused!
love. love. love her. take her if you get the chance. she will make you a better writer in a sweet and creative way.
One of the most amazing English teachers I've ever had. Her method is clear, her quizzes and lectures are relevant, and her activities are fun. She knows exactly how to make us want to learn by using humor and examples to motivate us.
She's very sweet. The material is a bit elementary, but still helpful. There are short quizzes, in class writing assignments, 1 paper, and a paper final. If you put in the effort, you'll get an A!
Show up to class, start your papers early on, and do whatever else she tells you to. Not only will you succeed, you will also become a better and more creative writer. I loved having her.
Prof. Stansell is one of the best professors I've ever had regardless of department. She is engaging, interesting, and very funny. It's a great class, and I would definitely take another class with her. She's always on topic and actually teaches material that is going to help you on examspapers. Also, she's super hot. I'd wife her.
I took Professor Stansell for Survey of Science & Technology in Society 1010, which is a painful class to take at first (gets better). God-awful textbook, but thankfully it's only used for a couple weeks. Ms. Stansell teaches a good class and makes you think about the issues at hand. You must read to participate, and you must participate to pass.
Professor Stansell did a great job of making each lecture engaging and stimulating thoughtful conversations. All assignments were very clear cut, and she did a good job of making the course easy but with just enough challenge to keep things fresh. Only downside is that she grades HARDCORE for participation, so be prepared to speak up in class.
Great professor overall. She was great about giving solid feedback and offering time for us to meet with her to go over assignments. She also gives a detailed assignment sheet for each assignment which was beyond helpful. Fairly enthusiastic and laid back. She encourages you to step outside the box
Ms. Stansell is one of the best professors I have ever had! She followed through on her promises, she gave clear instructions and consistent feedback, and she had us practice writing in a variety of genres (satire, parody, narrative, collage essay, etc.). I am a better grammarian and writer coming out of this class!
Just read the 25 minutes of reading for every class and you will do alright. A little reading and attendance is all it takes. Exams are open notes. Not too easy not to tough. Great professor would take again.
I highly recommend taking Professor Stansell for students who still need to complete a STS requirement. Her lectures are always interesting and engaging. It is extremely easy to do well in this course if you show up to each class and pay attention.
Mrs. Stansell is so so great. Yes, you have to read the books and files she posts in order to participate in class but if you do that you can easily get an A. If you participate and actually just listen in class there is no way you could fail because everything is pretty straight forward. She is such a nice teacher, & makes class enjoyable.
I came into this class really expecting to really enjoy learning to write in new genres, but I found the class and Professor Stansell's method of instruction to be really boring personally. I did well, but I don't feel like I really learned much from it. I would definitely like to know more about the genres of writing we did do in class though.
There is a lot of reading in this class. The book is hardcopy and online so either works. Participation is a big part of the class so speak up and ask insightful questions. The more students that participate the more interesting the class is. Take notes on paper because she allows paper notes as cheat sheets for test.
Stansell is a nice professor. Shes funny and is always eager to help you do better in the class. She can be a tough grader though, which is fine since she wants you to be proficient in your writing skills. She grades pretty fast too and no textbooks are required (assignments are online). Make sure to read the material and participate in class!
Picks great novels. There were only three (at least for summer course) and one of them was a play. They were interesting, the two novels were postapocalyptic, Station Eleven and Handmaid's Tale. Instead of essays, you do short blog posts (min. 250 words) and discussion board on 'yellowdig' Easy but interesting literature gen ed. Easy grader.
Work hard and you'll get an A. She's accessible, communicative, and tries to keep her lectures interesting.
Professor Stansell is a highly relatable and conversive instructor that is a delight to listen to in the classroom.
Considering this is an english class - get ready for A LOT of reading. She is a great professor and is awesome for extra help when you need it. You will be writing a few papers so I would recommend going to see her so she can steer you in the right direction. Overall good class, the books were quite interesting!
Very open, discussion style class with some interesting topics. Large chunk of your grade is from your participation in the class discussion or on an online forum she uses. Tests are open notes, and consist of an in-class essay. I found her to be very kind and likes to have fun teaching her class.
Professor Stansell is hands down my favorite professor at Clemson. She is very straightforward on syllabus day of what she expects out of you. If you keep up with the reading assigned (which isn't that long), take notes, and meet the requirements of the journal, it's easy to get an A. She does a great job at being engaging during class discussion.
Lots of Reading Journals, but if you just read and participate in class you should easily have an A.
such a nice lady and really wants you to do well. I'm not a literature person, so it was nice that we discussed all the readings before being graded. as long as you go to class and pay attention to the readings then you will be fine.
Professor Stansell is a very kind lady. She only requires two essays for the entire semester. You read four books throughout the semester, each over a 2-3 week period, and a few short stories as well. The books she chooses are overall really good. You use Yellowdig for participation points.
Professor Stansell is the best! She really cares about her students and she is great at communicating her expectations for the course. The class is very much discussion based, so be prepared to participate. You read 4 books and write two essays, and the daily readings are very manageable. Overall, I really enjoyed the class!
This was very manageable for an online class. I hate reading and still enjoyed the books we had to read. Participation is tracked on yellowdig, so as long as you stay on top of that you'll be fine. We had to do 3 essays as well which weren't bad and felt fairly graded.
Prof. Stansell is great. For homework, it's short readings that you have to make a few annotations on, and only two tests which consist of a paper and short answer / multiple choice style questions. She talks about good topics, but you need to come to class because it counts towards a participation grade and there aren't notes anywhere else. Talk!!
Hands down the best professor I have had in my college career. If you read, you will do well. So nice and helpful. Extremely timely with grading and gives opportunities for extra credit points with in-class assignments. If you throw in your opinion every now and then, you will do very well. I cannot recommend prof Stansell enough.
I loved Professor Stansell. She was a wonderful professor and I actually enjoyed the lectures and books we read. She chose interesting ones and the discussions were always engaging. There were not many grades, only attendance, class citizenship, a midterm and final, and a lit portfolio. If you read the chapters and participate you will do fine.
I love this class and professor! I wish I didn't take it online because it ended up being more work, and I wish I was able to meet Professor Stansell. She picked really interesting books and graded them fairly. The online format meant we had to annotate our books which took a lot of time, but I still really enjoyed myself. A wonderful experience!
Pretty good professor, class is mostly discussion/participation based but a lot of reading. Literature portfolio project, daily questions and exam make up most of your grade. Also attendance is mandatory but you can miss 5 without points off. Cares about her students.
Professor Stansell is a laidback, really engaging lecturer. I use lecturer loosely, as the class is mostly focused around class discussion and participation. If you want a class where if you show up, read the readings, and answer questions once or twice a class, this is it. As long as you even show some interest, I doubt you'll get less than a B.
Prof Stansell is an amazing person and professor in general. She picks the most interesting books to read, so you're never really bored over having to read the novels for class. As long as you participate in discussion every day maybe once or twice, you will have a solid grade in the class. She is also a Swiftie, so that makes her 10 times better!
Prof. Stansell is so nice! I didn't think the books were going to be interesting, but I actually enjoyed them all. Attendance is mandatory and you do have to participate, but she makes class interesting and comfortable so it's not hard to speak up. You should take her, even if you're not an English major!
Professor Stansell is overall really passionate about the books that she is teaching. The books she chooses are relatively interesting and if you show up, contribute to conversation, and remain engaged, your grade will be just fine. It's really only graded on a midterm, daily grades, and a lit project that isn't too hard. Can exempt final with an A
Great professor. Participate in class and at least know what the reading are about and you'll be completely fine. Tests aren't super difficult and projects are all manageable. Grading on essays is reasonable.
For a 1000-level non-lit, it was a bit much. Required between 30-60 minutes of reading before each class period. Exams were two parts, a 1000 word essay and a multiple choice/open response portion. No final exam, but there is a final project. Besides that, very understanding professor. She does care a lot about participation too!
She is very nice. Every class is based on what we are reading at the time, and participation in the discussion and attendance is important. A project to end things off at the end of the semester which I recommend attacking piece by piece as it can take a lot of time. Would take it again I enjoyed her class.
This class had depressing material, which I wish was disclosed. The readings are pretty easy, but get a jump start, some of them are long. A few short essays throughout the semester and weekly discussion boards. There's a final paper which allowed creative input and was fun to write. Stansell will extend due dates if needed and you do your work.
She is awesome! Lots of reading but none that I found too difficult to get through. Participation is super important but she can negotiate your grade which is nice. Midterm and final were written, but she is a super fair grader. Final project was very manageable as long as you started pretty early! She is always willing to give input aswell!
Stansell is an amazing professor. She is very kind and well spoken. Her tests are basically just on the discussions in class about the readings. You do have to read all of the texts she assigns, but they're mostly pretty interesting reads. She loves participation and if you pay attention, it benefits you. Final project is not bad at all either.
LOVED this class! It was basically a graded book club with 2 timed writings (midterm + final) and one big-ish project. 20% of the overall grade is "citizenship" which is how well you participate in class. She picks good books, you read outside of class, and have in class discussions. Please actually read and participate in class and you'll be fine.
I took this class online. I loved the assigned books, but am also not much of a reader. Just turn in the work on time and put thought into it, and you'll get an A. There's only one assignment a week.
Professor Stansell is one of my favortie English teacher's I have ever had. The class is discussion based, and she leads the discussion so well and makes it fun to read. Also, the assigned books in the class are actually interesting and fun to talk about. If you want to take an English, please try and take her class!!
She is very clear about what she wants you to do. Great attitude and will always encourages questions and deeper thinking. I took her online course, which requires you to read 3 books ranging from around 350-600 pages each. If you are fine with this, you should take her class. Also, there is a large assignment at the end of the semester.
