Dr. Walters is a very sweet professor. I would recommend her. I didn't think the material in CHM was all that easy, however Dr. Walters does a good job of teaching the material. She is always in her office if you have any questions and is always willing to help you.
My absolute favorite professor. She is super helpful when you ask, and she will break down any information so you can understand it fully. Dr. Walters helped me realize I wanted to major in chemistry. If I had taken Dr. Reeve's class instead as I originally intended...I don't think I would be. He's scary.
Dr. Walters is awesome! Chemistry 101 is a pretty difficult class but she makes herself available to help her students with any questions they may have.
Dr. Walters is a really nice lady who genuinely cares about your grade. She is loud and clear, but moves very quickly in class so write/type quickly! She's always in her office willing to talk about or help with anything you need. Offers grade replacement with the final which is a big help if you're bad at chemistry. I would take her again!
I couldn't have asked for a better teacher going into Chem 101. I was nervous because the subject is difficult, but she has helped so much. She makes sure to provide clear examples so each student understands, Out of the chem classes, her class average is usually the highest because of how good at explaining she is. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Walters is one of the best teachers I've had. I definitely struggled with chemistry but she made it a lot easier. Attendance isn't mandatory but unless you're a chemistry genius, I suggest going.
Dr. Walters is the best chemistry professor that I have ever had. She is so helpful. She puts power points online but in class she works every single problem out on the board. I made a C in CHM 101 and then made an A in Dr. Walters' class. Do not take anyone else for Chem if you want a good grade!
Omg I love her so much! The best chemistry teacher ever. Although she talks fast, her door is always open to help all of her students. She's amazing! please try to get her for Chemistry! you wont regret it if you put in the effort to do well in the course!
Dr. Walters is an amazing professor. She knows her weaknesses and how to work around them. She puts powerpoints online but writes everything on the board. She is so clear and concise its amazing. Her door is always open for any kind of help. I'm doing better in chemistry now than I ever did in highschool. + grade replacement on the final!
She moves at an extremely fast pace. She writes everything on the board, speaks quickly. If this is not your strong point & you are weak in math this class is going to be challenge. She will answer questions during class but seems like she wants to keep moving. Her door is always open. She is not good at delivery.
Walters is awesome. She is very willing to help students and really wants you to learn the material. Although her subject isn't the most interesting, she does a great job teaching it and is more than willing to explain things you don't understand. Participate in class and ask questions and you will be golden. The tests are HARD, so get help!
Dr. Walters really is such a great chemistry professor! She makes everything so you can understand it and is always willing to help in office hours. She does go fast, but this is chem and it's a lot of stuff to cover in a single semester. I would highly recommend her!
This professor is very helpful and she's always ready to answer questions.
BEST PROFESSOR AT UNCW. Chemistry is super hard but not if you are in Dr. Walters class. She will round your grades, curve the homework, and pretty much do anything to help you to get an A.
Walters is a good teacher. She teaches you what you need to know for the exams, it's up to you to practice and make sure you fully understand. She is NOT too fast, there is a certain amt that has to be taught for the curriculum. I thought she did a very good job. The tests are tricky to weed out who really knows their chemistry.
Dr. Walters is a great professor. If there is an option between her and another professor, PICK HER. Lots of notes but she has a steady pace that isn't hard to keep up with. Responds to emails promptly and answers questions in class. Homework can be hard but if you go to class it isn't too bad. The exams are really not that bad if you go to class.
GREAT Prof. She is great at explaining everything well and makes sure everyone is on the same page, she answers questions and is very helpful if you need extra help. She is straight forward with what is on tests. Print off the notes she posts, 6 slides per page, and follow along with them in class, makes note taking way better and easy!
Take her class!!! Dr. Walters is the best teacher in the chemistry department. Very clear about expectations and does lots of examples in class. She is very matter-of-fact but funny and nice. Her tests are tricky but passable.
I had Dr. Walters for both CHM 102 and CHM 211, and she was a fantastic teacher. Her teaching is very organized, she's always willing to help and she's so sweet. Definitely recommend her for any chem class you can take with her!
She is the best chemistry teacher! She makes sure that the whole class understands before moving on. GO TO CLASS. She'll do random attendance checks and at the end of the semester she'll use that to determine whether or not to curve your grade. Homework and quizzes are online. TAKE HER!
Great professor. I studied the day before each exam and still did decent b/c she writes everything out on the board. She does multiple examples in class so study those and the practice exams and you should do fine. Random attendance quite a bit, but will help boost your final grade. I recommend her over any other gen chem professor.
Professor Walters is amazing. Organic chemistry is a hard subject as it is but she makes it very clear. She will go out of her way to make sure everyone understands the material and is willing to take extra time to help you outside of the classroom. If you study hard you can get the A.
I've had Walters for both CHM 101 and 102 so taking her for CHM 211 wasn't a question. She is an amazing professor. I'm not a chemistry person at all but was able to pull out A's in these three chemistry classes.
Walters is an amazing professor and makes learning chemistry fun and easy! I couldn't believe no one has reviewed her before me because she definitely deserves a good one!
Walters was a great teacher which helped since the exams are standardized among all 102 sections and not very easy. She takes attendance on days where she thinks that people will skip (sunny beach days/day after exam) but if you're one of the few who show up & she's in a good mood, she'll give you some pretty significant extra credit just for going
AMAZING, Dr. Walters is by far the best professor i've had. She is understanding and very clear, willing to help any student that she sees cares
I took Gen Chem I with Dr. Walters in the fall of my freshman year, and now I am back in her class for Gen Chem II in the spring. Attendance is not mandatory, but she does randomly pass around a sign in sheet which will inevitably determine if your borderline final grade rounds up She is funny, lively, and sometimes brings us candy. BEST CHEM PROF
Dr. Walters is the best. Do not take anyone else for general chemistry. Most chemistry professors understand chemistry too well to break it down and explain it. Gen Chem is hard no matter what, but taking it with Walters is your best bet. I have taken CHM 101 and 102 with her and am now signed up for Organic Chem 1 with her.
I took Dr. Walters for CHM 101, now in 102, and taking her again for Organic chem in the Fall. I cannot recommend any other chemistry professor for these classes. She is extremely helpful and is always there to help when you need it. The exams can be really tricky and the class is math heavy but she really helps you understand the material.
Dr. Walters is definitely one of the best professors at UNCW. She writes very thorough notes and posts them online, but go to class because she takes attendance sometimes. I took Dr. Grove last semester and started going to her lectures in order to pull out with an A, so I took her this semester! She's always willing to help and answer questions.
Walters is an absolute gem, she cares so much that you understand the material and is willing to do anything to help you do so. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she takes random attendance throughout the year and it can determine whether or not you get a grade boost at the end. She makes her lectures engaging and has a quick wit. 10/10 recommend.
I don't think I've met a more caring professor than Dr. Walters. CHM 102 is not easy no matter what teacher but Walters made it so it was easier to understand and had no problem discussing questions outside of class. Every once in a while she'll take attendance and boost your grade if you're borderline.
She is an amazing professor. If you go to class and pay attention you should be fine. You will NEED to study and practice. Chem obviously wasn't my favorite, but I did a lot better than I expected. Also the math book that she suggest in the beginning is very helpful.
Dr. Walters is truly one of the best professors at UNCW. I hate organic chemistry but she really tries her best to make it enjoyable and relatable. The class is difficult and your only grades are 3 exams and a final. Lowest test is replaced by final but thats it. You will definitely need to study. Also, SI and the text are really helpful too
She is a really funny person and tries to work with you but the exams are made by the chemistry chair so they aren't professor specific which makes them really hard and they are all multiple choice so you either get the answer right or wrong-no possible points
Dr Walters is the best! She goes out of her way to explain concepts in different ways so everyone can understand it, especially when someone asks a question. Tests are very difficult ( they are the same with all professors) but there is ALWAYS a good curve. She knows when to have fun and when to get focused and cares so much about her students.
you will get an A if you put work into the class
She tries hard to explain things, but most of what she goes over is not on the tests. This means that you need to have a good grasp at what she is talking about and study how things are related and multiple ways to complete a problem. She provides study guides with the work shown which help on tests, she also does not create the tests.
Do NOT take Chem 101 or 102 or Organic with any other teacher - make your schedule work with Walters! She never makes you feel dumb and she will always go back to old material as a foundation if needed. She goes easy step by step and really prepares you.
Dr. Walter's is awesome! Chem has a reputation for being a drag, but she makes it worth it as crazy as it sounds. She's funny and loves her job. She joked that she'd teach for free because she loves it so much. Studying is a must. Homework is tough, but an easy grade. If I were moving on in Chem I would take her for 102. You won't regret taking her
Dr. Walters is the best professor Ive had at UNCW! She is great. 10/10 recommend if you want to pass chemistry. Her overall class grades on the exams are usually a lot higher than other professors. Super nice, funny at times. Gives notes on blackboard for you to print out. Go to office hours if you are struggling, shell help a lot.
GO TO SI!!!! I didn't for the second test and got a 53. A very hard class but she writes out all of her notes beautifully so you can study them later. The book is not required but you should get it for practice problems.
Dr. Walters relates the material to everyday things in order to make it understandable. She cares about her students and is accessible by email, despite the large size of her class.
Dr. Walters is hands down one of the best teacher's I've ever had. It's clear that she's very knowledgeable on the subject of chemistry, and that she genuinely cares for her students, as she will do anything within her power to help them succeed.
Dr. Walters was extremely nice and presented herself as a human being rather than a professor. She used real life connections and made material interesting and humorous. Chemistry is a difficult class, and she did an excellent job at making sure that everyone knew the material and explained everything step by step.
Dr. Walters is awesome! Chemistry is not an easy subject for most, and she recognizes that. She will explain concepts in simplistic ways and makes sure everyone knows what's going on. Her lectures are beautifully written and posted online. That being said, do not skip class because her in-class explanations are way better than reading the textbook.
Chem 101 was a breeze with Mrs. Walters. She really taught the class as if we were little kids, but im not complaining. Not only were the exams super easy, but the curve was always so high. There is a bit of homework you have to do but it is all online and is great practice for the exam. Take this class with Walters to give yourself an A!
Dr. Walters is awesome. I am pretty bad at Chem and she made the class 10x better/easier. Her lectures are very helpful and while you dont need to attend class, her lectures make the course much easier to understand. She was so nice and definitely wanted you to learn. There a bit of homework but is so helpful for the exams.
Chemistry is really hard, but trust me, out of all the Chemistry teachers at UNCW, she is the best. She talks pretty fast but if you go to SI's and keep up to date with what you're learning, it'll be easier. The homework was the most annoying because the material was not even things we would be tested on, but you have to do them. Good luck!
Dr. Walters is the best choice for CHM 101, no doubt about it. She's clear and explains the material in a way that everyone can understand. The tests can be a bit tricky sometimes because as far as I understand, the grad students make them and all the sections take the same one. But as long as you put some thought into the class, you'll get an A.
I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS WOMAN! Dr. Walters is amazing. She truly wants her students to succeed. Orgo is the death of many students, but as long as you study hard and reach out to her for extra help, you will be fine! I wish I could take her for Orgo II.
I took CHM 101 last semester and got a B. I have Walters for CHM 102 and I have been doing significantly better than I was last semester. My advice for this class would be to go to every SI session. They are very helpful and 9/10 times there will only be two or three other students there. I haven't missed an SI and it has helped tremendously.
Dr. Walters is so caring for her students and really wants them to succeed. She will provide extra practice material if you need it, and will thoroughly answer any questions you may have. I really recommend taking her CHM 101 course, but her section usually fills up super fast, so if you cannot, I still recommend sitting in for her lectures!
Mrs. Walters is so nice and caring to her students, she really encourages success and speaking up to ask questions if you don't understand something! Even if it's old material she will take time in class to go through it. Reviews for the exams are so helpful and will spend time after class to help. Lecture notes are straightforward and are funny
Great lecturer and always ready to help.
Amazing professor. I took Dr. Walters for CHM101 and she was the reason why I wanted to take her again for 102. She clearly explained the material and gave us enough homework so we could understand the content before tests.
Great teacher who is funny and nice and i really enjoyed the way she taught. In general chem is really hard but she made me enjoy it
The tests and labs weigh a lot. It's clear that she cares about the students, truly a sweet person. However, this was a difficult class, you'll need to put in the work. If you need a chemistry class, she is a great teacher to learn from. The weekly labs are difficult, but she is more than willing to help you understand the material.
I had Walters for an online class, but her lectures still were really good and helped me understand the material the best I could. She makes the lectures not boring and gives you good practice for the exams. The exams are pretty much the grade of the class though, so that makes it difficult to get an A.
ATTENTION!!!! The professor isn't what's a level 4 difficulty. It's the course. Take either Strangman or Walters.. they're very similar. The course is just a lot of content. Study and don't procrastinate. Dr. Walters is willing to help. We practically became best friends since I went to like ALL of her office hours. She believed in me more than me!
Dr. Walters is a great person, but I am not the best CHM student I struggle with math and I didn't understand one unit and I was lost for the rest of the semester even tho I went to tutoring. I failed three exams and thank god for my lab grade cause it brought my grade to a C. She also curved the tests cause everyone failed.
Dr. Walters is amazing; she explains information clearly and without any jargon. Her lectures are to the point, and she goes out of her way to help students. She did a few study groups for the final exam online that really helped me.
Mrs. Walters made chem 101 such an enjoyable class. She is a funny teacher and she makes sure that all of her students understand every topic before she moves on. She is very approachable and will work with her students if they ask for extra help or to move homework dates. Her lectures are also all posted on canvas and are similar to in class.
Very engaging and makes sure students understand the material before moving on. Also pretty laid back, she doesn't take attendance and has all lectures posted on canvas so you can take the notes yourself.
Dr. Walters was amazing! She made chemistry, a very hard subject, much easier. The homework and grading is the same for every 101 class but her lectures make the topics engaging and she posts old lecture videos to explain the material in a different way. I would recommend this professor for anyone and am glad to have her for 102 next semester.
Personally, I thought Professor Walters was mediocre. She was lecture-heavy and didn't do the best explaining material, in my opinion. If you did badly on the tests then there is no way to make a good grade. She also uses ALEKS for homework which tends to be time-consuming and challenging.
Professor Walters makes chemistry so much fun and entertaining! Her class was so engaging and she actually writes out the notes as she goes through the lecture. She is overall an amazing processor that cares so much and is definitely the best choice for chemistry classes!!!
Walters made lectures interesting and clearly has her students' best interests in mind. Chemistry is a hard class, and you have to put in work. Take her advice though and attend every lecture, rewatch recorded lectures, attend S.I. meetings and you'll get a good grade. Lowest exam grade is dropped for your final exam grade, which is a lifesaver.
I could not recommend Walters more. In high school I was so bad at chemistry but she makes it so much easier to understand for those of us who struggle understanding science. She creates so many opportunities for success. The class is difficult itself (being chemistry), but if you put in the time and effort you will succeed.
Professor Walters really cares about her students and is always on top of providing us with resources that could be helpful in learning the material. Her lectures are interesting as well. She is also very responsive to emails and gave us grade calculators throughout the semester so we could see how we were doing in class.
She explains the lectures well and makes them interesting, but doesn't spend too much time going into depth and usually says "that's just how it is". Overall she's nice, but the ALEKS homework program is terrible. If your schedule doesn't allow you to go to any of the SI reviews, be prepared to teach yourself the exam material.
I personally loved Professor Walters. She was easy to follow along with and she tried her best to make lectures somewhat interesting. I really struggled with chemistry in high school but I actually ended up understanding it pretty well.
Dr. Walters is an amazing professor for Chem 101, The class is hard, but she works hard to ensure everyone understands everything before she moves on. Attendance is not mandatory, and all the lectures are on zoom so if you can't go to class, it is not a huge deal. She also will replace all midterms with the final exam which saved my life.
Pretty good professor, good lectures, etc. The only downside is that you have to download Respondus on your personal computer, which is incredibly invasive in my opinion. Unfortunately, it seems like Respondus has a monopoly on the chemistry department, so if you have to take chm101, you might not have a choice.
Don't let my grade be a reflection of Dr. Walters. She was such a sweet lady and explained concepts very well. I would absolutely recommend her out of all the other profs for this class!
Dr. Walters was absolutely amazing! While chem is not my favorite subject she made me actually start to like it. She was a great communicator and definitely makes the class very passable if you put in effort.
Seriously the best chem teacher I've ever had. She is the best!
Best professor I have had. She is the best chem professor by far and is constantly going out of her way to help you out. She is willing to meet via zoom if you can't make it during office hours, her lectures are funny and engaging, and she seems to really care about both you and the material. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Walters is a fantastic professor!! CHM 101 is not easy and she makes it seem like a walk in the park. She makes sure everyone understands as you move through the course. She also will move homework dates if we are behind in class and she takes time out of her personal time to have review sessions before the exams. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
I didn't think she was great at explaining material and her notes are hard to follow b/c she writes on an iPad. She's accessible but most times she just says "thats just how it is" or when there are concerns about ALEKS she just says "theres nothing I can do". ALEKS doesn't reflect the test questions, so on top of that you have to study separately.
Don't skip class, you won't pass. She does an amazing job of explaining the material. She teaches it how she wishes she was taught and it helps so much. She uses real-life comparisons to help. This was my second time taking the class. With such difficult course material, she is the way to go.
This is the best possible professor for CHEM 101. If you get her, be sure to go to the lectures because she can actually teach effectively and will give hints to questions on exams. She will answer any questions, let you drop by during office hours, and hold review sessions for each exam. You can tell she truly cares about her students success.
I would never do one of these but I had to for her. Dr. Walter is amazing. She explains the material very well and is organized. She also pulls questions from Aleks to explain them. Very reasonable when it comes to homework and will push back if we didn't learn it that day. She has a review session before every exam which is SO helpful. I love her
Professor Walters is the best professor I've ever had. She makes chemistry super understandable and she does an excellent job at explaining everything. She has review sessions right before exams that are super helpful, and her lectures are fun and engaging. She's the best at what she does and I 100000% recommend taking her
Dr. Walters is a wonderful professor, teaches work in many different ways for all students and uses lots of examples to grasp concepts. She wrote a LOR for me and was detailed. Taking her again for 102 and planning on her for organic too. ALEKS homework is annoying but helpful, just use that, the textbook, and slides to study for exams!
Not my teaching style but she's very nice and makes her lectures fun
She puts so much effort into her students!!!! She'll email you the slides after class and has recorded lectures on canvas just incase you miss a class, attendance isn't mandatory but it can help boost your grade if she sees that you were present more than you were absent. There's a lot of HW for sure but she prepares you well for the tests!
I wish Dr walters taught every single class I took at UNCW. She is hilarious, knows what she's teaching, and teaches it very well. Her office hours are available if you want extra help. She draws things out whixh helped me, a visual learner. People dread CHM, normally because profs make it hard, she'll make you want to take another CHM for sure!!
Dr. Walters is awesome. She really knows the material she is teaching on and is always willing to answer questions. She definitely wants to help you succeed in any way she can.
The nicest professor at UNCW. She explains chemistry so well, it does get challenging but as long as you apply yourself to Aleks and STUDY you'll be good. The final exam will replace all lower exam scores and the Aleks homework is worth 30 or 40% of your grade (so do it).
Dr. Walters is AMAZING. She teaches chem in a way that is understandable. She makes connections between real world events/things to what we are learning. She is funny in lecture and keeps students engaged. If you go to SI sessions, complete ALEKS, attend lectures, and ask questions you will do good. If you can take Dr. Walters, do it!!
Dr. Walters is my favorite professor I've had at UNCW. She explains the material in a clear way, and encourages us to ask questions. I was not good at chemistry in high school, and she made me enjoy the course. I signed up to take CHM 102 with her, she is that good. She also is really funny, and hosts reviews sessions before each exam.
Dr.Walters is great! The class and material is difficult, but her teaching style is very clear and she welcomes any questions. She should be your top choice!!
I took her for both CHM 101 & CHM 102 I have never been good at chemistry until I had her as my professor. She sends me emails monthly telling me how hardworking I am and how she's proud of me. She's a sweet lady and doesn't go to fast and I have made an A in both classes with her. LOVE HER! if you struggle with chemistry take her she's great!
She is wonderful! Doesn't go too fast in lecture, and sends slides after each class. I struggled in CHM 101 but did amazing in her class. She truly cares about students and their learning. She is always willing to help. She goes in depth in lecture and makes it where you can actually understand. AMAZING!!
Dr. Walters is an amazing professor! She makes chemistry clear and enjoyable, explains concepts well, and emailed me/gave Kudos when I was doing well. Good attendance and short surverys are extra credit. She's supportive and always open to questions. I only wish I'd taken her for CHM 101!!
CHEM is SOOOO hard. Dr. Walters is so silly and makes the material understandable. The whole chem department works together and makes the same test. Do NOT cheat while using the Respondus Lockdown; trust me, they know. If you put in the effort to study, you can get an A.
Chemistry is the toughest department. but Dr.Walters is the best there is. She makes lectures easy to understand, she opens up the floor to questions, and she's hilarious. The exams are online via LockDown Browser, so don't be dumb and try to cheat. I sat front row everyday with my friend and we love her. Can't wait for CHM 102 and orgo!!!!
Dr Walters is so kind and even though the class is hard her lectures are pretty easy to follow. And she uploads the slides to canvas after.
