I thought the class was very fun. Her lectures can get a bit lengthy. But as the semester goes on she gets more excited and the lectures become more interesting. A very good class.
She was nice, but her lectures were boring. Easy A-B, just read the text book... b/c her lectures are based on the text.

Very difficult professor. There was no textbook but instead AJPA articles that were way too complicated and confusing for an undergraduate class. Only one midterm, a research paper and the final = the class grade. Because there were graduate students attending an undergrad class all the undergrads did REALLY BADLY and the graduates got As! BIASED!!
The class was pretty easy, but the lectures sometimes got boring and lengthy. I never opened the book, but I heard most people did (I still ended up with an A). Many extra credit assignments. Only 2 essays that count for 6% of grade, but you have to do them or you fail the class. She was overall pretty nice and easy going.
She's clearly new to teaching as she has some unrealistic espectations from undergrads...but she's nice and happy to be there telling you about her favorite subject- bones. Sometimes she moves fast and can be boring but her class was still interesting. I'd like to see her refine her style a bit more and she'd be a great teacher.
The lectures are very long but overall the class is easy her lisp and sometimes studder is distracting sometimes, but its not to bad. Overall the class is ok.

This was probably the worst class i've taken. I failed because i just stopped going to class, i couldn't take it anymore. She was really boring, the notes she gave in class were somewhat helpful, but sometimes would just randomly jump from what she was talking about to something completely different. I do NOT recommend this class to anyone, it would be best if you pick another professor. She speaks in a very monotone voice, not interesting at all!
she is the worst teacher in the anthro department. i've yet to come across anyone who has anything positive to say about her teaching. she teachers as though everyone is a grad student in Physical Anthro, instead of unergrads. she is very unclear and clompletely unhelpful. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES
She is the worst prof. so far that I've encountered in the Anth dept. She puts material on tests that wasn't in the textbook or in the lecture, yet we have to know it on the exam. She makes physical anthropology boring. I actually wanted to take this class in the begining and now I totally regret it.
Dr. Weiss is the best professor at SJSU. I thoroughly enjoyed her invigorating lectures and she is so approachable. I learned more in her class than in any of my other classes this semester.
Good professor. She is very knowlegable of physical anthro matters.
She is a wonderful teacher and very easy to talk to. I knew very little on the topic when I enrolled into the class. Now I feel like I learned a lot. She is also very funny.
At first I thought that I wouldn't like the class because of some of the reviews that I saw here. She is a bit tough when it comes to grading, but she is very engaging. Ms Weiss loves the material and has a clear presentation style. I also thought that she had a great sense of humor. Now if we could just get her to wear a short skirt!
hard exams
This class was hard, but I learned alot. Once you get a hang of her tests, they aren't that bad. And, she is always willing to go over difficult concepts again and again.
Really nice! Obviously loves her field and gets you excited about physical anthropology. You'll learn a lot from her, especially if you haven't taken a course covering evolution before.
She is an excellent instructor! I would take another class with her any time. She provides a lecture that is easy to follow and homework/paper that matches lecture. She also does great quizzes. Take any of her classes!
Uhh...this class was so BORING. I couldn't concentrate on the lectures because they were so boring and scattered. She takes it personally when students aren't paying attention/learning. The work load isn't hard though...1 midterm, 1 final, 6 quizzes, 2 papers.
Good class. Professor struggled with difficult students, but dealt with it well. If you paid attention, you could tell she loves anthropology and she made it rellevant to everyday life.
Great teacher. Extremely helpful. My advice to you: do the papers in advance and go to her office hours so that she can proof read it for you; don't miss class; use your notes to do the study guide; go to her office hours. TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT EVOLUTION AND HAVE A GREAT TIME. SHE IS SUPER NICE.

Extremely intelligent, knows her stuff. She's pretty funny, gives lots of hands-on time with fossils. Mix of lecture and group work keeps it pretty interesting. The book was kinda awful (all jargon), so attending the lectures really helped. She sticks to her lecture schedule and is clear about what she wants from you.
Elizabeth is such an intelligent woman. Sweet and passionate about what she does. Lectures are sometimes confusing but she's very approachable and always willing to help. Grading system gives all students the opportunity to do well. Learned a lot and will definitely take a class with her again!

I really hated her class. Her lectures were ridiculously boring and she grades really hard on her essays. I would not recommend her class because she doesn't even care about her students at all!
I have to disagree with others. She grades essays fairly easy, only if you KNOW your stuff. I look forward to her lectures every week which are very interesting. She's very helpful and knowledgeable about her subjects.
do whats asked for on the in class essays and you will get an A+. her quizzes are all pop quizzes but they are based on the previous lecture so the stuff is still fresh in your memory. seems nice but wastes too much time asking people to put their phones away. p.s. she's really pissed of if she sees you have your cell phone out during class.
Ms. Weiss has mood swings, seriously. She gets really mad if people are using their phone or talking, which I guess is understandable, but she doesn't understand that more than half the class are only taking her class was a GE requirement. The in-class essays are easy if you know what to talk about. The reading and her lectures do not go together.
I learned a lot and even though I took the class as a GE, I enjoyed the class immensely, especially seeing the fossil skulls.
Whether it's a GE class or not, all students should be respectful and take class seriously. Elizabeth is one of the most intelligent professors at SJSU. Always brings something new and interesting to the table. Tests are hard, but study hard, go to office hours, and you'll learn a ton of useful info. Took her before and will take her again!
This is a graduate class. Go to class everyday, do your homework, go to her office hours, do your final paper at least 1 week before is due so that you can show it to her and get feedbacks, and take lots of notes! This class is nothing close to be easy. It's challenging and requires effort. She is very helpful if you approach her for help.
She is a terrable teacher and I hope she looses her job very soon. She doesnt care for the students and she stands in lab like a statue not seeing if anyone needs help. I have very smart friends that failed out of this class because she did not teach the material the way that it should have been taught.Dont use her for any class you will regrete it
Grades essays very easily (the only thing that she's hard on is grammer). Her lectures were hard to follow because she would jump from one subject to the next. Pop quizzes were a little hard.
Loves her job. Good lecturer (although subject gets boring)Go to her office hours for proof reading, trust me she will make your paper an A if you do. Quizs were easy, tests were easy. The final was somewhat difficult.
DO NOT TAKE. If you want to pass her essays, you have to write below a fourth-grade level. She grades on grammar instead of content, and doesn't have any understanding of college-level writing. 30% of the grade depends on attendance (via pop quiz to get around the rules), and the lectures are just "Book:Part 2".
Throws random pop quizes on Owl monkeys random & junk at the beginning and end of class. Take a different class. This class is also very boring. Always bunch of skeletons being passed around classed. Hard to follow lectures
Very intelligent and organized professor. Lectures are straight-forward. Come to class, take notes, and study for the exams, and you will get an A/B. Always willing to help in office hours, great with proofing papers. Genuinely cares about students' grades and if they're enjoying the class. Very nice and approachable - will take her again! :)
Fantastic professor, will definetely take her classes again. 3 books for her class, but she went over what we really needed to get out of the lectures in class. Had 3 quizzes, paper, final. Her lectures are interesting. She is very nice and approachable, likes her students to participate. Learned lots from her, wish all professors taugh like her.
teacher who studders with a lisp, cant really lecture, jumps around too much, doesnt understand that anth12 is just a GE and most of the students who take it are undergrad students.
Extremely organized, approachable, and intelligent. Gets grades back quickly. Easy on papers - as long as you don't have any grammatical errors you will do fine. Hands out study guides for each exam. Very straight-forward exams and lectures. Easy A/B if you study!
VERY intelligent and is easy to understand, learn from. HATES technology, so don't bring in a computer or you WILL get kicked out. Papers are not too hard, she even proofreads them for you if you visit her. VERY NICE. Spelling/Grammar NAZI. Returns papers SUPER FAST. The final was the HARDEST I have ever taken, 200 SPECIFIC DETAILED questions.
Very unhelpful and hard grader. Also gives random quizzes about class lectures and unassigned reading in book. She is very unclear, sometimes hard to understand. Overall do not take her class unless you want to end up with a pretty bad grade.
Horrible Ge Class to take. Lots of pop quiz at START of class. Final was harder then any my calculus 1 final. Boring class ... hard to pay attention. Avoid class at all cost
she is the HARDEST teacher ive ever had. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. YOU WILL FAIL. her essay assignments are super hard and impossible to do.
hard teacher
>>DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS<< she does not grade on how well you write she grade on the sources!! if u get 1 source wrong u get a C or below!!
I don't know why everyone is complaining; I got an A+ on all my writing assignments (about 1/3 of the class got As) and the quizzes are pretty easy. The midterm is a b*tch, but the instructor is aware of this and curved it!
She's really helpful when you go to her office; she'll read your rough drafts and even help you find sources. All you need to do is ask for help.
She's hard, but fair and really helpful. Just go to her office if your doing bad and she'll help you out a lot.
Reading some of the comments, I was scared of this prof. but I found her to be easy. Quizzes are short and true/false, writing assignments are 2 pages and she gives good guidelines, and no essay questions on tests.
she was pretty easy but papers are really things to take seriously with her. all her papers require primary resources. but shes really overall, nice and helpful esp when you go to her office hours
If like to push yourself, take this class because it is challenging. If you like to push yourself, do not take this class because it is challenging. We wrote essays, and we took about four or five quizzes, a midterm and a final.
The class is extremely hard. Chances of getting an A in this class are slim to none. She treats this GE class as though we're majoring in it. Take this class if you're up for a challenge or if you plan on majoring in that field, otherwise I would not recommend this at all. By the way, the book was pointless to buy. I studied everything on my notes.
EXTREMELY HARD TEACHER. but if you are interested in learning cool things take her class. i got all A's on my papers had a B+ in the class and took the final and it came down to a C. Knowing Detail is important to her. such has brain size. i still loved her class though very interesting. she loves what she does, yet SUPER HARD.
A really great professor! She has field experience and is very thorough in her teach methods. Just make sure you go to lecture since there are a lot of quizzes. She is a pretty easy grader, as long as you follow all the guidelines. She's also more than willing to help you during office hours. Highly recommend this class; very interesting!
Besides what people say about her being hard probably b/c they didn't pay attention in class and didn't put any effort into their work, she is a GREAT teacher. She is very precise on her notes and you learn better with her teaching methods. If you ACTUALLY pay attention in class the midterm and final are a breeze. It's not hard to get an A trust me
Dr Weiss is extremely intelligent, and knows how to lecture well and keep students interested. I highly recommend any of her classes if you are interested in physical anth. Just do the reading before class, because she likes students to participate, and don't skip lectures, because she will not just follow the text book.
shes a REALLY hard teacher and difficult to understand. shes strict about grading essays and will fail you if you dont use the right sources. overall i hated this class. dont take her! i think more than half of students failed her class.
she really isn't that hard it's just the subject is difficult. she is super nice and if you go to her office hours when you have a paper due she will correct the whole thing and give you an A. by far the best teacher i have had at sjsu
Dr. Weiss is an excellent professor. The subject may be confusing, but she works very hard to explain it. Very helpful and kind. I loved her class. Take Dr. Weiss!
I had been warned about taking this class, especially from this teacher. She expects you to pick up clues to do identification and does not teach to the test. She was quite pleased when half the class failed the second quiz: the problem is yours, not hers.
This is an extremely hard course, but it is not Prof Weiss's fault if you fail. She gives you the material and allows for lab hours(and it is fairly easy to get another professor to let you in the lab for extra studying time). Her tests are all practical(except for a written exam).Enroll if you have passion for bones & are willing to put in the work.
She wasn't very articulate, but she was very enthusiastic about what she was teaching.
The thing is she is very nice, and I went and saw her in office hours. However, yes the class was hard and I was pretty stressed at times. However, if you participate in class, save your old tests, and *GO SEE HER IN OFFICE HOURS* even if it doesn't seem to help, it will help you that she knows you are trying.
Her lectures are overly complex for a standard GE class, and she writes all over the board in a very disorganized fashion with occasional handwriting hiccups. There are also inconsistencies with dates/names of things in notes/eText, which makes things more confusing. She also has a lisp and doesn't wear a bra (not a good thing).
Mummies is an awesome class. Took osteology with her and it was great so I signed up for mummies. It's even better. Not as hard as osteology and extremely interesting (not that osteology wasn't). Love it! :)
Fantastic professor. Extensive knowledge in the field of physical anthropology. Make sure your retention abilities are at peak performance. Tests on obscure, but relevant details. Her student minions that fawn over her are amusing, to say the least. Oh ya, and she married a guy who studies UFOs!! WTH?
I'm glad this headache is over!Take another teacher if you can. Thats the best advice I can give :)
I loved this class! She knows the material SO well its amazing. She is a brilliant woman and really enjoys this subject. For writing assignments just follow the specifications. Use her study guide for the final and you'll do fine.
I am finally a graduating senior and have been waiting 3 years to post my review because I wanted to be fair. Listen up. This is the WORST prof I have had at SJSU and I am an A student. I received straight A's last semester. This teacher can not speak, articulate, teach, and does not help. She really enjoys seeing people fail. Please avoid. Please.
She may be very knowledgeable about the subject but she cannot teach. She needs to understand that she is teaching a GE class. Her essays were very hard to write and shes specific about the sources you choose. Lectures are incredibly boring. Dont take her if you're looking for a easy GE. She expects too much
I was scared after reading a lot of negative comments, but she wasn't that bad at all. 3 essays throughout the semester, one online homework quiz a week, and a final. The subject itself is difficult but she is nice and if you go to her office hours she will help you a lot. Barely went to class but got an A on all my papers and a B in the class.
Do not take this class. She teaches the course as if the students have been studying this subject for years. Her expectations are too high for a Introductory couse. She would be a great teacher if she was teaching only to anthropology majors. Also, the essays assigned would receive an automatic "F" if there were any grammatical errors.
Interesting class. Lots of reading. Couple of quizzes that weigh heavy on your grade. If you dont read it makes it difficult to pass them. Her quizzes and tests are somewhat tricky and badly worded...fill in the blanks and stuff like that.
Cant understand her very well. She uses big words without letting us know what it means. If you dont come to class and take notes, good luck!
One of the most knowledgeable teachers I've ever had. Attendance is mandatory because missing one day of lecture is missing LOTS of info. Her tests are fair, everything is covered in class, but you still have to study a lot because she expects you to know your stuff. If you're into physical anth take any class she teaches. She's great!
Do not take this class.... it is boring, not enough assignments to your raise grade and if you do not turn in all 3 writing assignments you will fail! READ EVERYTHING & review your notes. also books are expensive!
Great teacher! You get what you deserve. If you study, do the writing assignments, and go to class, you will do well.
She's a good professor. You get the grade if you put the effort out. Don't be like me and not go to any classes until the very end. For the midterm and final, focus on the online book/quizzes. Pretty tough GE class, but an A is definitely possible to get.
Dr. Weiss is an excellent prof. She explains things with loads of examples and even adds her own experiences. If you have problems on the writing assignments, she totally will help you. I dreaded this class, but in the end I learned a lot.
Took this for a GE class; loved it and enrolled in another one of her classes -- thinking of switching my major even. She's tough, but fair and if you pay attention you'll learn loads.
Mummies was awesome! I'm a cultural anthro. student and so didn't think I would be into a physical anthro. class, but am so glad that I took this one.
She's seriously awesome. She loves what she does and will really clarify things for everyone. If you're confused on anything she will help majorly. Great GE class. Post-tests are online and easy and untimed. The tests arent very hard and lectures are interesting. Go to her office hours for help with the essays .
This professor is extremely hard. She is good at clarifying things and is a over-all good professor..BUT..she takes this class too seriously for a GE class. Expect to be confused and with headaches after each chapter. Maybe it's because I'm not really interested in this topic, but...there are also not a lot of assignments to bump your grade up.HARD
She is very helpful, very clear, and likes the subject that she teaches. the class can be boring sometimes but it isnt too bad. it is a difficult class because your assignments are just essays and tests so you really need to study and do well on the essays to get a good grade. overall a good teacher
She is a pretty cool teacher but I think too many people text in class and play on laptops so thats sort of distracting.. I wish she was more disciplined. You have to come to class and read her website. Kind of pricey because you have to spend $200 for both the website and anthology and you only read like 8 articles from the anth. tough on papers.
Unless you have serious interest in this subject, I would suggest you avoid this class. The reason is because 5 pop quizzes(5 questions each) is a total of 25% of your grade. This is ridiculous because if you're not constantly reading the material everyday, there is no way you'll get a good grade even if you ace the papers or tests..
this class looks easy and it is sort of easy, but the pop quiz's are a huge chunk of your grade and if you miss all of them and get a bad grade on them you won't do well in the class. The essays are alright but it really comes down to those pop quizzes. She does them at the beginning of class so if you're late you can't make it up
Professor Weiss is a brilliant individual. Her passion towards the subject comes through in lectures- which are fascinating, by the way. If you're looking for an easy class, do not take Professor Weiss. If you're a curious and hardworking student you will love her. She is my favorite professor from SJSU... I miss her.
Don't take unless you plan on not going cause you will fail. Class is boring if you don't have a passion for the subject she is talking about.
Dr. Weiss is very passionate, and very particular about her grading. Every lecture is mandatory to learn the material- no skipping and copying notes later. To do well, go to any study groups or review sessions, and spend a ton of time in the bone lab. The weeks leading to a test I easily spent 14 hrswks studying and looking over bones.
Ok. This class is too much work for a GE. I'm expecting to get an A but I'm working hard for it. avoid if you can. If you can't avoid it: hey, could be worse.
The class is not that hard but the tests can really bring down your grade. Since there are not that many questions missing one question on a test can change your grade drastically. Writing assignments weren't that bad but she left patronizing and irrelevant comments on my paper. Overall, subject and professor were uninteresting.
Took this as a GE class. Personally, I think it was too difficult for a GE class. I barely received credit for this class, which is disappointing because I worked very hard in this class. There are two papers, three tests, and one final. The papers are fairly easy, but the tests are horrendous. Good luck!
This class is based off of 2 Papers, 3 Exams, and 1 Final. I attended class every single lecture, took crucial notes, Aced both papers and still failed the class. Professor's clarity level is 0 and participation does not matter at all. There are no extra credit assignments or homework to help boost your grade.
She is a very helpful teacher, always willing to answer any questions you have are look up the answer if she doesn't have it. Although attendance is not mandatory, SHOW UP. She doesn't use power points to write more than what she writes on the board. Her tests are hard but if you study they are super straight forward, she does give study guides.
Professor Weiss is very intelligible and cordial in her lectures. There were two papers, and two exams. This class is heavily weighted on exams, which provides for a lighter workload, but you will need to be properly prepared for the exams (study guide for Final). 5 quiz's, 1 Q each. 1 % each of your grade. Oh My Heidelbergensis I love Human Evo!
I really enjoyed this class. At first Human Evolution didn't seem like the most interesting topic, but she keeps the material simple and understandable. She's always willing to help and the class is easy enough.
First 2 exams difficult but if you read the book, go to lecture and go to jeopardy its passable with a C. The final is CUMULATIVE. Jeopardy is warped those who win get the extra credit, not those who actually need it. She will ask for in detail answers, that don't help on the exams. Hardest class ever in 5 years
One of the hardest classes I've taken. There is so much content and nitty gritty details to memorize for tests, which can make it extremely difficult to pass the class. Your grade is only based on a few tests and 3 papers, so it is hard to bring your grade up. She can be a bit sassy, which can be intimidating if you want to talk to her one on one.
Her lectures are very long but very detailed if you're paying attention. She has a quirky personality but it just makes the class interesting. The class was boring but if you do the reading and take good notes you can pass. There's 2 tests, 2 essays, and 5 pop quizzes. Make sure you, READ, study, and go to her office hours for feedback on essays.
She lectures every class and it times it is hard to keep up. She also doesn't use slides and simply writes everything on the board which can get confusing at times.
Hard to pass her class. I worked hard to get a C+. 40% of the class doesn't pass. However, if you come into her office hours she gives good feedback and she'll help you. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS for essays!!! Go more than once. Also, start going to her office hours sooner than later. You think you don't need to show up to class but you do.
She is a great teacher but some of the material will be very hard to comprehend. You have to memorize A LOT of diseases and symptoms and etc. She does answer your questions whenever you need help or need to go see her. Also, very tough grader, she basically wants you to put in 300% without killing yourself. She is 100% German so expect toughness.
Here's the deal: 1. Do the reading. 2. Come to class. 3. Do the work. 4. Attend the review sessions!!!! The structure of her classes is simple but the material can be difficult. She's very easy to get a hold of for help and doesn't snub you for asking questions. The review sessions HELP A LOT. One of the best profs I have ever had, hands down.
Dr. Weiss is incredibly nice and her lectures are always clear and concise about how to identify and side the bones. You have access to the lab and most of the class time is used for practice and asking her questions. There are about 6 or 7 quizzed total. If you want to pass, come to class, ask questions, and practice in the lab.
If you want to win jeopardy fill out the study guide beforehand and bring your notes. It's that easy. Write down EVERYTHING she says, not just what she writes down. Everything will be given to you, but you have to write it down and study. Don't take if you aren't a good test taker as your grade is entirely test based.
Dr. Weiss is one of the best professors that I have had at SJSU. She has very clear study guides and expectations. The jeopardy is really helpful and forces you to study if you want to win. It is important to remember to write the little things that she adds during lectures because that is what will let you pass the tests. Study and ask questions!
Dr. Weiss is a great teacher. She offers a lot of help and is very available for students. For this class you have to spend time in the lab studying if you want to pass! It's a tough class, but Dr. Weiss makes it fun with her obvious passion for the subject and her genuine nature.
Attendance is optional but 90% of her exams come straight from lecture, so get close to someone who takes computer notes if you think you will be absent. I love her enthusiasm and she makes hilarious nerd jokes. She's the kind of teacher that you could fail her course and not be mad but look forward to seeing her again.
Professor Weiss is generally a kind person, but she gets caught up with her ego. She tends to ignore the needs of students and has a demand for the way a student should study and how the class should ideally be run. Read a ton, study up, take notes and you'll make it.
Class consists of 3 essays, 3 tests, and a final. Grades really easy on essays as long as you follow directions. For tests, which usually don't take up the whole class period, go to the jeopardy sessions and study smart if you want to pass. If you attend class, you don't need to do the reading, but still need the book for essays and to study.
Professor Weiss is the most wonderful professor I have ever had. Her lectures are clear and understandable. She is one of the most intelligent people I have ever known, as well as being pure of heart and of mind. She is super kind and approachable if you have questions, either inside or outside of class, not at all judgmental. Definitely recommend.
This class was great for me, but I absolutely can see how it's not for everyone. This class is solely based on the tests. You HAVE to come to class and do the work in the lab, take lecture notes, and ask her questions if you want to do well. Flashcards and drawings helped me a lot while studying. I will definitely take her again.
Dr. Weiss is incredibly kind, knowledgeable and helpful. Ive taken many courses with her and have always received an A grade. If you show up to class and PAY ATTENTION, take notes during her lecture and during the jeopardy sessions, you will do fine! The people who struggle in her class are the ones who dont show up. Dont be that person!
Weiss is a very good teacher but really makes you work for your A. You need to have a deeper than surface level of understanding to pass. Lots of reading, and her tests are difficult. She grades on spelling. Hard class but very informative. She is a good lecturer and you can tell she is very interested in the material she teaches. Responds quickly
Im doing her online class as of right now due to COVID. Her quizzes/writing are the only things being graded and that said .... it is really hard to pass or get a good grade in her class. U definitely need to study on everything about that chapter to ace the quizzes. No grammar error on writing to pass. Also and average of 8/10 to get a low C.
It was a tough class, but Weiss is a good professor. Tries to make books cheap as possible. Test heavy, but when asked she started providing study guides and gave extra credit. Disagree with her on a lot in terms of opinion in this class, but I respect her. Wish there had been longer lectures and more non-test assignments though. Learned a lot.
Just in general not a good class, with not great content
Professor Weiss is a good instructor. i learned a lot in her classes, I've taken two of her classes and you do gotta work for your A but she offers extra credit. Something that i greatly appreciated from her were the jeopardy sessions right before exams! She is very approachable, answered questions in a nice manner. The hands-on lectures were fun.
Prof. Weiss gives one of the best examples of harmful colonial mindsets and methodologies in her course. This, I guess, wasn't that hard to do for her, since she serves as the example herself. No wonder the only press that would publish her racist and bigoted book is sham. Land Back!!!!!
