She was overall a good teacher. A little disoriented, but this was because this was a summer school class so it was very fast pase
this teacher is the best! she is nice and willing to help you whenever u have trouble with HW or essays.
SHE S KOOH SHE S REALLY EASY DOESNT GIVE OUT ALOT OF HOMEWORK BUT IF YOU DONT DO UR HOMEWORK SHE LL GRADE YOU STRICTLY BUT SHE S REALLY EASY
very easy to get A
She really loves teaching and it shows. She treats us all equally and gives a lot of work but it's so easy. You WILL get an A if you do it all. The only ppl who dont like her are the ones that are failing cause they never show up.I chose her two semesters in a row. I just wish she taught eng. 94. She is te BEST!
she always made us do work that wasn't necessary! and she always picked on people in (class) she knows what she's doing but doesn't really think of her students! ADVICE: don't take her class
No Comments
Ms. Zarubin is the type of teacher that if you don't understand something she will do her best to get you to. Also if the whole class doesn't agree on something she wil more than likely change it.
The class is not easy. It is a lot of work and a lot of time that you will use, but she is a nice teacher and willing to work with you individually. You may have a hard time understanding her HW instructions but if you ask, she'll explain it again in a better way. This class is for REAL COLLEGE STUDENTS. If you can't pass it, GO BACK TO H.S.!
She's an easy "A" teacher, but follows school rule more than other English teachers. Easy to fail.
she's not organize (she tries to), confuses people most of the time, but easy to pass as long as you do your homework, show up, and not be late. Even if you have an 'A', you may have a chance to fail if you're always late.
She's very nice once you really get to know her. dont be scared to ask for help shes always there to answer any questions. really enjoyed her class it was like high school even though there's a lot of hwk you get to learn from it! i wish she was a teacher for eng. 93!
She is a very nice teacher, she helped me out in writing a good essay...if you like an easy and a nice teacher, pick her!!!
Watch out! I was very disappointed when she returned our first essay in class and say: If you are a ESL student who didn't do well in grammar, you may have to consider dropping Eng91x. I felt so bad for the ESL students expecially when they tried their best. I mean, she could of told them to get a grammar tutor instead so don't take her.
i dont recommend taking her. bad teacher! unorganized! doesn't relate to the students. boring. many essays. homework every day. plays favorites. hard grader. unclear. lets just say she's the worst.
Didn't know about Ms. Zurubin at first, but she tuned out to be a very good teacher. I was able to skip a level in English by following her suggestion. Make sure to use the Tutor connected with this class, there also great.
Every class we had to get up and sign in for attendance. Many essays, and a hard grader. She does play favortism. A lot of peopel dropped, and a lot were gettign bad grades. Handful of essays, howmework and homework everynight. She was a joke. good luck NOT RECOMMENDED!
Mrs. Zarubin is a very nice teacher and she is understandable. Do all your work and you get an A. She goes by the text book. For vocabulary presentation you can always use your creativity and she encourages that.
she is so bad! a ton of homework and essays. play favorites. unorganized and hard grader!! i dont reccomend her at all!!
Play's favoritism hars grader on essay's homework every night Not clear on what she wants for her essay's
SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER EVE RDOES GIVE OUT LOTS OF H,W BUT ITS EASY... IF YALL TALKIN BOUT YALL CANT HAVE FUN ON THE WKND BECUZ OF HER THEN DROP OUTTA SKOO IT AINT 4 U KEEP PARTYING N DO T U DO BEST STOP COMPLAINING! ALWAYS HELPS OUT ND YEA LOTS OF ESSAYS IT IS A ENGLISH CLASS DUH!
she is the best! ms. Z is always looking for ways for her students to understand the materials. we barely use our books but it is totally helpful and easy to learn. this class is easier than high school level of english! and she gives us plenty of options to raise our grades up or to make up absences. i would take it again if i was failing.
super easy. connects with students. lots of easy hw. easy essay topics. don't really use books, yet very helpful. funny. understanding. gives tips on how to pass her class while completing lab hrs. cares for her students. follows school codes/rules. stays on track most of the time.
She is very helpful and made me understand the things I struggled with back in the day. I scored well on all of my tests and passed her class with flying colors. I would love to take her again!! She's a great teacher.
On overall good teacher. You can see that she likes teaching and knows how to due her job. Gives out a lot of HW, be sure to do it all(thats how u pass her class) her essays were moderatly easy & if u follow interactions in her pp. form, you will get a good grade. Althought a lot of students dropped, if ur a hard worker- take her class
She's the best English teacher I've had. She's AWESOME! Very Very helpful as long as you keep up with her work, but they're fairly easy. If you don't understand anything, don't be afraid to ask! She'll be happy to help :)
Make sure to do your homework! Ask questions, she is very willing to go over it. She likes what she is doing and want everyone to pass. She does adjust workload to how the class is doing. tons of homework. Make sure you do it every night. I haven't taken English in 20 Years and doing pretty well. She likes class participation.
Somewhat strict on attendance. Essay, after essay, after essay, but they are pretty easy if you pay attention and do all your work on time.
Very easy! But lots of homework, essay after essay. If you want to pass this class do your labs hours, do all homework, work hard on the essay. And you will pass for sure 100%!!!
Although she is confused sometimes, she is easy in grading essay. Attendance is really important, so go to class everyday. Midterm and final are not that hard. So you will get A if you listen to her direction.
be prepare alot of homeworks , not easy pass
Expect a lot of homework and READING PLUS. She's a decent teacher that makes you work for it. If you want to pass then participation is key! Pretty confusing when it comes to homework so make sure you clarify with her before class ends.
THE TEACHER IS REALLY GOOD IN EVERYTHING, BUT I THINK SHE GIVES TO ME TO MUCH WORK TO DO AND THAT IS DIFFICULT FOR ME BECAUSE I HAVE TO WORK ALMOST EVERY SINGLE DAY AND SOMETIMES I CANT DO THE HOMEWORK BECUASE I DONT HAVE TIME AND BECAUSE OF MY JOB
Shes quite unorganized & scatterbrained. She assigns homework & occasionally forgets what is due when she signs it off for credit. Shes a tough grader & nit picky without setting the guidelines of what is expected. She failed over half the class for the 1st essay saying she expected better. Half the class stopped attending class. Not worth takin
Don't take her class if English is not your first language. That's basically what she said in the class.
She is super disorganized and confusing. Her essays are very confusing and she does not really explain what she wants , she gives out a handout as her "criteria" or "expectations" they do not make really good sense at all. She also barely gives you time to write the essay. literally they are due the next class.
do not take this class unless you are willing to participate. no one likes her in my class. she is horrible no rubric at all.
Do not waste your time with this class. Immense amounts of homework and unrealistic grading is her speciality. I had a terrible experience with her.
Honestly the worst professor at CCSF. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Please avoid her at all cost. She DOES NOT care if you work hard on your essays she will fail you. She takes off points for being late and everyday she gives HEAVY loads of homework. I regret taking her class for English. There are better teachers out there.
She does not know anything, she does not care how hard you worked on something. If she does not agree with your point of view than you fail. She is also very confusing and does not give clear instructions. DO NOT TAKE HER.
If you like challenges like climbing the mount Everest then take her, but if you are a hardworking student that loves if the prof. appreciates your hard-works then this class is not for you! Youll never get an A on your papers and overall grade unless you are Dr. Albert Einstein. She is very disorganize and changes due dates forward or backwards
4 weeks into class and she just became so confusing and clustered. Made over half the class quit by end of week 4. Theres 13 of left and were being dragged through hell. We have no time to work in groups. No time to ask for help. Changes dates all the time. My sanity is at risk please avoid this person
She is VERY disorganized(terrible level), also not teaching at all. Her class is like a study group. She never has concrete answers to what she wants or how she grades things(basically everything). Her materials are random and also disorganized. She doesn't grade homework as she goes, so you wouldn't know what grade you will possibly end up with.
Since we have moved to online she has been very disorganized with her lessons. Everything is scattered and she expects us to do all of these things but hasn't done anything to set it up. Do not take this teacher unless you are ready for an unorganized mess.
With the class being online, she has been very disorganized causing most of the semester to have so many errors. Homework is everyday and must check each section to see. There are seven papers, excluding the midterm and final, so get ready to write a lot. Expects a lot of writing from you and tough grader because she doesn't follow her own rubric.
Professor Zarubin is one of the sweetest professors . She is a great teacher, if you put in effort and hardwork into your paper you will get an A. Just read the directions and really get into what is expected of you. She changes deadlines to give us more time to complete our assignments. Very lenient with due dates if you talk to her.
I understand this course was supposed to be in person (and maybe things would've been different), but do not take this course online. It took her a while to understand how Canvas worked and ended up changing a lot of things throughout the semester. LOTS of papers, but the reading material was fun. The papers are truly the backbone of your grade.
very unorganized and gives so much homeworks
Professor Z is a great teacher! She is very lenient with due dates. She extremely informative and gives excellent and accurate feedback, getting an A in this class is a matter of how much effort you put into you work and your attitude. She will not hold your hand through every assignment but she will guide you in the right direction.
Professor Zarubin seems like a very nice person and I enjoy how she leads her English 1B class. Unfortunately, her grading rubric and organization skills make this a 1/5. Multiple assignments were never discussed and not on the syllabus, were suddenly due NOW and if we didn't anticipate this through mind reading it's our fault.
Shes a nice person but when it comes to her class, it is absolutely terrible. Feels like torture taking this class
She talks about how stressful it is right now for a lot of people but there are assignments due every day. Assigns an essay but will still assign work every day like we're not already working all day for the essay. She asks for opinions on discussions and says It doesn't have to be right but will grade it low because it's not right.
She is a nice person but when it comes to grading. she is the worse at grading. her feedback makes no sense at all and when it comes to the assignments, theres one everyday even if theres a paper due the next day. it is noticeable that this was her first time teaching online because she definitely does not handle it well.
She is extremely disorganized for one, as she changes dates and requirements for assignments very often. She also assigns 1-3 assignments per day along with essays and papers. The worst part about her is how passive aggressive and cold she is over zoom and email, where she is overly critical in a demeaning way, and not helpful in giving feedback.
Please go pick a different professor to take.
Professor Zarubin really has a passion for literature and that shows in this class. There is a lot of reading and discussion of the texts and she gets very excited when there is good participation and insight from the class. I really enjoyed her demeanor and the great feedback she gives on all the assignments, not just the big ones.
This English class has been a mess throughout the entire semester. From the get go, the professor really couldnt grasp the idea how online class works as due dates will change all the time. The class work was also meaningless as the grades she gave for the work didnt make sense and feedback was nonexistent. She wasnt much help during class too.
With constantly shifting deadlines and a major lack of feedback, every assignment is confusing as she doesn't provide much explanation as to the specifics of what she wants and is ruthless when providing said grades - happily shelling out D's for an arbitrary grading rubric she doesn't make clear
Due dates are not made clear because she constantly changes them. She admits to not being technologically savvy, and it shows in her ability to navigate canvas, which is not something I would be proud of if I was her. She is generally a nice person though. Just too much work beyond all imagination.
There is a LOT of work, but if you enjoy fiction like I do, you will really enjoy the class and the reading material. Homework is due almost every night but its usually either one paragraph or a discussion post. So if you do about half the week in one day, its really not that much work.
Be prepared.. She piles sooooo much course work, expects so much time devoted to her class, and a very strict grader... Get ready for that lovely grade to decrease !!
A lot of papers but they're organized fairly well if you can keep up. It was tough because she wasn't communicative, but her TA was great. She was also a pretty tough grader I'd say. A lot of her course was just a bunch of unnecessary assignments. With the class, I took it was up to me to take what I could get from the class.
A bit unorganized. Your due dates will never be correct. She misspeaks and you will have to make sure to you maintain copies of everything because she forgets what she's says.
Prof. Zarubin is an excellent professor. I have read many comments about her piling on homework, but the amount of work she gives is absolutely reasonable, and she loves you more than enough time. She is thorough and tough on certain things because she cares and because the goal of taking a writing class is to get better at writing. I learned alot.
Tough Grader. Definitely grades to her standards and not a basic universal standard. Watch out if she doesn't particularly like you, she wasn't too fond of me and it showed in my grades.
If she does not like you (like me) she will grade you horribly and even when turning everything in she will not care and grade based on your essay's. She does not understand simple questions and is old so she does not really understand tech questions. Don't take her classes unless you really have too!
This professor made my English 1A experience terrible. She would not help me out whenever I ask for help. She would automatically just tell me to read it again over and over and at the end of it never helping me out. Also was terrible with zoom meetings.
Professor Zarubin is a terrific teacher, but she is a very tough teacher. If your desire is to be a good writer, her class will certainly make you better. However, if you are taking this course in pursuit of a letter grade, I would avoid. I would also caution people with heavy work schedules or are taking four or more classes. Very overbearing load
Does not grade based off the rubric and also has trouble using canvas. She regularly goes back on her words.
This is probably the worst English professor. Instructions are not clear, and this course will give you anxiety. I do not recommend at all.
She wants to discuss books about fighting stress and the growth mindset, only to make people discouraged about their futures since she hands out bad grades. If you are reading this Elizabeth, know that you are hurting the future, even if they're not trying get a Master's in English. R u proud of urself?
If you juggle work, kids, or have other important life commitments, then this class is not for you. She is not the most organized nor the quickest to respond, which negatively impacts the student. On top of that, there is so much expected devotion to her class that it becomes really tough to manage time.
I enjoyed this class but it was a lot of work. For a 6wk class, I spent on average 30 hrs/wk between reading, assignments, discussion, and writing papers. For a 16wk class, I would expect 11-12 hrs/wk. I believe Professor Zarubin may be a tough grader, but I had a really positive experience. I learned a lot and feel prepared for upcoming courses.
Whomever put A+ for their final grade for Summer 2024 that's total BS, no one is getting A's in this course lol. Also, if you don't want to be an English major, don't take this course. Your chances in life are going to suffer if you're not an English major and you want to take this course lol.
I dropped Professor Zarubins class before it could impact my GPA. While i could sense her dedication and passion for higher learning, she struggled with navigating canvas or online learning in general and was very unorganized.I recommend you not taking her class during summer; you will likely have more success in a typical semester.
I dropped this class not even two months into this course. For an English teacher, her grammar and spelling is impressively bad. I worked ahead of time, like I usually do for my classes, because I am financially responsible for myself. SHE GAVE ME ZEROS saying it was impossible for me to do my work ahead of time. Wish I could rate 0/5. THE WORST
Is particularly irresponsible. Needs students to take the blame for her annoying mistakes. The online class wouldn't even clock in at the exact time to open the test. Causing everyone to worry about the final. And not being able to finish on time. Instead, she thinks it's the student's problem and needs us to take the blame ourselves.
She assigns multiple papers (6), and is a critical grader of the material you submit. There are 5/6 discussion posts a week, though she provides great feedback and is incredibly attentive. Her canvas page was little disorganized. I enjoyed her class and her feedback, it was helpful and kind and I genuinely think she wants you to be successful.
Gives lots for homework. Sometimes could be helpful. Acts like her class is the only one you are taking. Assigns at least 5 to 7 homework per week. Gave us three books. Lots and lots of reading. She does give lots of extra credits though.
She gives very poor instructions, but will make changes once they are pointed out. You will not be graded well unless you miraculously read her mind and write exactly what she wants. There is A LOT of homework. However, I did leave the class feeling like a better essay writer.
I hate to see so many bad comments about Ms Z. Yes she does give a lot of homework, but if you believe you are capable then you can do it. She taught me a lot in her class and I'm grateful because all that hard work makes me believe I can do anything. And I never had a problem with her being unorganized. Change ur mindset from fixed to growth!!!!!
The sheer number of deadlines build unnecessary pressure, shifting the focus from understanding the content to simply meeting due dates with constant pressure creates a stressful environment that discourages deep learning. It promotes a mindset where students are more concerned with grades than actually absorbing the material. It is horrible!
I dropped her class after two weeks. The amount of work she gives should be criminal, 4-5 chapters to read, and 5-8 assignments due every week. Shes a tough grader, and she's not helpful either. Avoid her class if you value, piece of mind, your free time, and your mental health. I was miserable by week 2.
Doesn't answer your questions there was times when I would ask her about my grade in a rubric my grade would be an 85 out of 100 on the rubric but in the grade book it would be a 78 out of 100 I tried to explain to her about that and she just told me read my comments? Which I did which shown nothing and didn't resolve my essay grade.
