Extremely objective in her presentation of all cultures including American culture, which is refreshing. Not an idealogue. Presents cultural anthropology in a very interesting, human way that allows one to relate their own experiences to other cultures.

She is a very smart lady who knows what she's talking about. She gives u a study guide for the tests, but alot of the stuff on the test wasn't on the study guide and she gives it 2 u only one class b4the test. She listens to your problems and likes feedback. She made the class pretty interesting.
very nice and knowledgable lady. she is very passionate about anthropology and one of the best professors i've had..it blows my mind why she wouldn't be teaching at berkeley or somewhere equivalent.

She knows the ins and outs of Anthro. Always haves something intresting for the class. Notes are hard to get down because there is so much and she clicks to the next page too quick. Shes the reason why I might change major to Anthropolgy!

The reason why I am now majoring in Anthroplogy... AMAZING. She knows everything, and she's very helpful-- always willing to help you if you need it.
Should stick to fieldwork.
She's amazing! Extremely interesting, full of life, always very energetic, helpful, open to discussion in class and during office hours. Very nice lady! I adore her as a professor.
Anthropology is her passion and she is almost like a salesman, she sells the subject well. I wish she taught more classes and this city college is lucky to have such an over qualified professor as her. Thats "Dr" hardy, recognize!
Took her two times both were awesome. She is very intelligent and very fair. Invited me and my girlfriend to Costa Rica when the college sponsored one fell through. Great lady!
ONE OF THE TOP PROFESSORS AT COD!! I took intro to anth. with her a year ago, and i was so interested in the subject that i am now enrolled in her archaeology class. she is knowledgeable and funny, you will not stop paying attention to her! and you will feel guilty when you miss class!... DEFINITELY TAKE ONE OF HER CLASSES!!!!!
The absolute best! Great lectures, very enthusiastic and energetic. She's very helpful and willing to answer questions and explain things if you need help. She's just a fantastic teacher and really gets you interested in the subject. One of the best teachers I've had at COD so far!
One of the best professors at COD. Very knowledgeable, helpful, and wants to get to know you. i have taken two of her classes already and she is great. the tests are not to hard if you come to class and take notes. if she needs help she will give it. if you can you should take her.
She is a really professional teacher, very into her subjects. But her teaching skills are somewhat good; more like slide showing all the time.
Has anyone received a grade from last semester?
I haven't gotten my grade... I don't know what's taking so long. But she's an awesome professor, she repeats herself when something is going to be on the test. Very helpful, and she invites you to her office to discuss issues or new theories.
Pretty easy course. She lectures with power point, and all her slides are pretty much taken straight from the textbooks. I had her for both Cultural and Physical Anthro. If it is a choice between the two, cultural is way more interesting, and you get to watch more vids. Physical has a lot of biology along w/ it. Bleh.
She is bad at get stuff back to you.
Very smart and very cool! Fight for your grade! If you see her office hours she can be swayed to objectional questions on the test and give more points!
very interesting
Dr. Hardy is my favorite teacher. Before her classes, anthropology was just an interest of mine; now, it's my major and biggest passion. All of your grade is taken from four, equally-weighted, EASY tests. You can pass this class with little-to-no studying AS LONG as you read all of the material and participate in class. ANTH001&ANTH002
Dr. Hardy is a great instructor. She is very friendly and helpful. See her in her office hours as well as she is always open for discussion on the topics- very helpful if you don't quite understand something. Her Anth001 class is challenging, but rewarding. If you attend class, pay attention to her lectures, and read your study guide, you'll do fin
Dr. Hardy is a very hard working and straight forward.. if you don't do well in this class it's because you didn't put in the effort.
Dr. Hardy is amazing. Every lecture has you on the edge of your seat, even the more "plain" parts of anthropology. Very objective in all areas, with field experience, and an amazing sense of humor. If the budget crisis hadn't hit so hard, the Anthropology department would really be something under her!
Class was boring, tests were tough, attendance was mandatory. So was reading the textbook. If you want a good grade, expect to work hard
As my first semester at COD, Hardy definitely fulfulled my freshmen edu. needs. She never overfilled you with useless info, her powerpoints were very to-the-point, which I loved, and her tests are easy if you pay attention and read the necessary sections. Her Final project was very easy & fun to do. She has lots of reallife experience w the subject
Dr. Hardy has been my favorite teacher at COD so far. She's funny, really nice and super smart. She loves Anthropology, and if you pay attention, you'll learn to love it too.
Dr. Hardy is one of the best professors here at COD. I may be a little biased as Anthropology is my major. That being said, I don't think their could be a better instructor or Department head. Even if you're just thinking about taking her class to fulfill a requirement, I can't emphasize enough that you should take one of her classes if you can.
Cultural anthropology is an eye-opening experience. Enjoyed her as my teacher and is very passionate. Material is very interesting.
Very passionate and animated lectures for an eye-opening subject. Although she will recommend the textbook and study guide, I was able to get by with the notes and only using the textbook for vocabulary.
Dr. Hardy is a great Professor, unlike most professors you find at comm college she's very informative. Her lectures are interesting and you'll learn a lot. I highly recommend her!
Dr Hardy is not just a professor of Anthropology, she is a practicing Archaeologist. Knowing that she has lived what she teaches makes her lectures that much more fascinating and informative.
I loved this class! She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She actually cares about her students which is really cool. We used the text book and the study guide a lot. I highly recommend getting both. The study guide helps during lecture. loved this class, good times!
I took Dr. Hardy for Physical Anthropology, and she is absolutely amazing! The class was absolutely fascinating because she is such a dynamic lecturer. Listen to her lectures and use the study guide. All the tests come directly out of the book. Definitely my most interesting class of the semester.
Dr. Hardy is an amazing professor. Go to class, take notes ( she is a great lecturer) and use your book and study guide! She is also hilarious! She makes us laugh every day and the mood in the class is always good. She is as archaeologist and last week we had class on Skype because she was in costa rica to save ancient cave art! Awesome teacher
She makes the class fun and interesting. She provides study guides for tests that go exactly with the test so easy A. She says stories and examples that go along with lectures so she keeps you awake. Memorize the definition of culture if you are taking Cultural Anthropology with her. There's a few videos she shows and provides extra credit.Yeahuhh!
I absolutely loved this class. Dr. Hardy is a great professor and she loves what she does. This class was extremely eye opening. I would highly recommend you take Professor Hardy. The only negative about this class is that she takes forever to return things but thats ok.
Probably the Smartest and BEST overall professor at College of the Desert. Her lectures will stick with you for life.
I took Dr Hardy over the summer and it was alot of fun, I learned alot and after this class, Ive decided to major in Anthropology. She needs to hurry up and post the summer grades because she is taking way to long
Great Teacher, if your looking for a easy class i wouldent recommend taking her. Her tests are really tricky
I took Dr.Hardy over summer and she is amazing. I learned so much in a short time. Her tests are worded tricky and their hard. But If you study the study guide you will do fine. I would Highly recommend Dr. Hardy for anyone who likes anthropology.
I TOOK HER ARCHAEOLOGY AND CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY CLASSES. SHE'S ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS I'VE TAKEN. YOU LEARN SO MUCH FROM HER. ALTHOUGH HER TESTS ARE VERY TRICKY, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T MISS MORE THAN THREE TIMES YOU'LL BE FINE⦠WRITE NOTES FROM THE POWERPOINT!
Dr Hardy is genuinely one of the nicest professors I have ever had at College of the Desert. Its great to see that Dr. Hardy is back from her sabbatical..... If you don't do well in Dr. Hardy's class its because you didn't put in the effort. PS go to her office hours, she is extremely knowledgable about anthropology and history.
She is so funny and sarcastic. You can get offended sometimes by her comments if you're christian. She is nice and teaches great! Her lectures go by pretty fast and uses power point. I thought I wasn't going to do so great in this class but I did! Just read the book and you're fine! There's no homework. Her exams are pretty chill! Easy class
Dr. Hardy is an incredibly kind & fantastic. I really appreciate that she is an experienced Anthropologist; it's nice to have a teacher who knows from experience, not just from books. She's really passionate about her work, and always makes the class laugh. She also has great input on racism and makes POC feel respected and comfortable. I love her!
I took her for cultural anthropology and I got a great grade in this class. He power points go by fast but they are helpful! There's 3 test plus the final and the study guides are very helpful! The book is helpful to have but not extremely necessary.
I am currently taking her Phys Anthro class right now. The semester is just about to end. Her lectures are quite informative. The book is essential to pass the exams. Visiting during office hours is a good option because she is always willing to help in any way. She has helped me with any problems I have and very friendly.
This is a great class especially as a pre-requisite it's easy even the tests she provides study guides you don't really need the book you will get enough info from her lectures. Great class and great professor overall.
Her class is overall easy. I don't think I had any homework. You don't need the book but sometimes its easier to have it. Two of the tests she gave were open book. Pretty interesting.
easy A. study for tests though
Dr. Hardy is a very interesting and fun person, but the same cannot be said about her class. This is my first year in college and I only took Archaeology because there were spots available, but I am glad I did because it was a good introduction into what taking a college class is like. If you do the work, and study for the tests, you will be fine.
Dr. Hardy is very enthusiastic. If you show up every day and pay attention, it is an easy A. No need to read the book as she summarizes every chapter in a slide show for the week. Easy tests if you were listening to lecture. There were two or three tests, a couple movies with a worksheet, and a super-easy laid-back final project.
She's a nice prof but very unorganized with her work and lectures. Most of the time I didn't even know what she was talking about. She follows the book but then she gets off topic and starts talking about something else. The questions on her exams are some what based on lectures, but her teaching method isn't all that. I'm barely passing this class
I like Dr. Hardy as a person, but not as a professor. She's nice and funny, but her lectures are all over the place. Not very organized. I'm a very organized person, so she isn't the right professor for me. Ended up dropping.
Dr. Hardy is a very good professor. She is very willing to work with you. She is a little unorganized and her lectures are kind of funny because she gets lost easily. The downfall to her class is Most of your grade is based off of the tests. They are confusing and a lot of it is not covered in class. I'm a straight A student and I have a C in class
Only grades were the 4 tests we took the entire semester. Would not recommend this class. Lectures were scattered and teacher would not keep on subject.
Extremely disorganized and just terrible! Also, she never answered a student's question clearly or would simply answer with "I don't know."
Dr. Hardy is GREAT! Found her to be very educated in Anthropology and great to talk to. She is a very caring professors and seems to love what she does. She is very experienced in her filed and can give you great information and works with you if you have any issues in her class. She is funny and you can learn a lot from her. Thumps up!!!!
Dr. Hardy is an excellent teacher. I love how even on the most incredible teachers you can always find someone who got a bad grade who probably didn't show up and do the work and is now complaining for no reason. Yes she a little unorganized but she gets back on topic and she is always accessible outside of class for help if you need it.
While Dr hardy is nice and knows her subject great, I am not fond of her as a teaching in general. While she does give study guides, she gave us questions on the tests that were not even on the study guide. For some reason, her slides are not even available on Canvas, so you have a lot of reading to do.
She is very nice and entertaining, although sometimes the lectures can be boring. There are three total tests. They might be open note and book or not, it just depends on cell phone usage during class. There is next to no homework, just a final presentation at the end, a textbook is not necessary, but helpful. She gives lots of notes.
Prof. Hardy is a good instructor. I say good and not great because of her tests. I could tell she just used the same ones from the semester prior, even though we were on a slightly different pace than them. The second exam I took had a chapter in it that we didnt cover! Im not making this up. BUT, she offfers extra credit. Easy A. Solid prof
I would not recommend Dr. Hardy to anyone. Yes! she gives extra credit but she is so unorganized that may forget t put it on your grades. Her lectures are boring and she the exams have nothing to do with the lectures. She is a good person and a great anthropologist but a horrible teacher.
Pretty confusing, lectures are on things were not tested on. luckily she gives out a study guide typically, but its just terms. Tests are confusing but usually passable and they're the only thing were graded on. 3 exams and a final project. that was fun, but once again, not very clear what the expectations were. kinda an easy A but NOT CLEAR
This class is so boring and professor Hardy is difficult to follow. She says uh uh alot and lectures are so boring, would not recommend this professor.
Professor Hardy is such a sweet lady, but not a good professor. She constantly says the same things over and over again, and says uh uh alot. Her lectures are extremely hard to follow because she does not even know what she is saying most of the time. Do not take this class unless you want to pay to be on your phone for an hour and twenty minutes.
Professor Hardy is a great professor willing to help you out and will answer any questions you have. I took her for cultural anthro as well as physical. You NEED your textbook to study to receive an A in the course despite being present and attentive in lecture.
Test questions are tricky sometimes, overall if you study you will do good on the tests, she provides useful study guides. However, your only grades in this class are tests, so you dont have much leverage to make any mistakes. Her lectures will put you to sleep, but she is a very nice lady.
While Ellen is generally nice and I did not find her class difficult, I would not take her again. Her slides were not available on Canvas so you have a lot of reading to do. Her exams had questions that were not on the study guides. Overall, this class consisted of 4 exams as well as extra credit.
Dr. Hardy knows what she is talking about in her lectures, if you don't like long and heavy information lectures, do not take this class. She cares about her students and their grades, she will help you if needed. She offers lots of opportunities for extra credit. Read the textbook provided and study or you won't pass!
Dr. Hardy is an amazing professor and I loved attending the zoom meetings, but most of the time when lecturing she would get off topic and sometimes it would just become a drag. She took the transition to online courses very well, but has very poor communication if you ever had a question or anything.
Basically, she was a good professor and a very sweet person, but the only thing we had in our gradebooks was literally four tests which made getting a good grade difficult.
Professor Hardy is a little behind the times when it comes to technology and online courses. It didn't cause any major issues for my grade thankfully, but I was sort of annoyed when I missed lectures because she didn't know how to use zoom :/ She is a bit of a rambler and takes a while to get to the point, but I think its because she cares so much!
She might tend to ramble a little, but she's incredibly passionate about what she teaches. Love her!
Amazing lectures, you can tell she cares deeply about what she teaches. She makes lectures fun and makes you want to participate.
She is an awesome professor. You can tell that she loves what she is teaching about by how she gets into her lectures. She also wants to make sure that we all understand what she is teaching and will extend lecture time to do so. Answering anything that is asked. She is always in a great spirit. Would definitely take a class from her again.
Professor Hardy needs to be more organized and not block assignments randomly; you might have to do tasks twice. Dr. Hardy made me feel stupid in her class and made me lose interest in participating. She needs to be more specific in her instruction for assignments. Although it is an easy A, the student acquires absolute 0 knowledge.
If you want an easy A, this is the class you should take. I only attended class maybe 10 times the entire year, and I still passed with an A. Just make sure you attend class the last 2 days, do the final, and keep up with the online work. The professor does tend to ramble during class, but she is very very caring and understanding.
Ellen Hardy makes it very easy to get an A. Only negatives - the long boring off topic lectures, she takes forever to grade things which leaves you waiting & waiting and if you ask her a question or share something about your life she can completely misunderstand what you just said and reply with something totally not related. Show up and get A.
She is very sweet, and her class is an easy A. Only negative are the off topic lectures. The lecture was about hour long but felt 3hr long, and I almost never understood what was going on or stay focused. Other than that take her, she is very nice and helpful.
You all should take her she very nice, sweet, and friendly as well. I wish more professors were like her she is one of my top 10 if not 5 favorite professors ever. She had this great personality she wanted you all to passed this class. Don't worry what people said to her they probably fail and they don't wanted do the work. She is so much fun.
Sweetest professor ever! She does ramble on a lot like the comments say, but she means well. You can tell she's very passionate about what she does. Submit everything and you're sure to pass. She's also very funny and incredibly energetic - especially for an 8am class. Take her, you won't regret it. Not sure of my grade yet, but I'm sure it's an A!
She is a sweet person and you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. However, going to class feels like a waste of time as she spends the whole lecture rambling about random topics and never gets to the course material. It is easy to pass as there aren't that many assignments, you just don't get any actual learning out of it.
yes the "off topic" allegations are true. however shes absolutely hilarious and a very sweet person. every class felt like i was hanging out with my friends lol. maybe dont take this if youre expecting to actually learn about anthro in a descriptive way but u can just kinda skip everything but be there for the final. anyways, lovely lady!! easy aff
Yes she does yap and go in small tangents. Just redirect her back to your original question. Easy A if you pay attention to the textbook, and group assignments. She's easy going and makes jokes. I would take this class again
