great teacher! very funny and nice! highly recommend. very easy tests! makes classes fun, and does not drag things out. if the material does not fill class time, she does not stretch and bore, she lets us out!
Makes Lab fun and interesting, always helps and makes sure you understand what is going on. She takes the time to learn your name! Very funny also! Very cool lady, if you get her you will enjoy her!
if you enjoy useless banter, and self deprecating humor, take this class. she moves at a roadrunners pace. her tests are impossible. even the damn squirrels at UNCG could keep up with this woman. rey.478!!!
a very nice lady...definitely. I personally thought her tests were miserable and she breezed through the material like crazy. HOWEVER, she had very detailed PowerPoint presentations for the lectures. If you study, you might do well. If you're not a Biology person, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
I love Mrs. Lamb because she's actually there for the students. She would help you with every problem and would find an easier way to explain the concepts I didn't understand in Meg Horton's lecture. I would definitely recommend her.
If you pay attention in class and read/study the assignments before the test you should do well.
Actually I am not a science person and I did get a B in her class. I didn't study like crazy for the exams either. Just make sure you come to class because she gives small quiz assignments but they are not hard. I feel like I came out very well because I got a B and I hate biology.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Shes very scarcastic and her exams are horrible...
I lovee her! She's so funny and her stories are awesome. Great teacher that keep us entertained the whole class.

she is an awful teacher
She came and taught our class and she is a MUCH better teacher then Katula! I wish I had her! She made bio fun!
Mrs. Lamb is hilarious and absolutely awesome... Plus she is so small and cute that you can't help but love her.... she reminds me of Mrs. Grogan which is a very good thing to remind one of....
Awesome teacher. Tests aren't too difficult if you read the book and do the CD quizzes. She claims her tests don't have much to do with the book, when in all actuality her tests are the book. Overall she's great. Definately recommend her!
Really nice and doesn't make you know EVERYTHING!!
Mrs. Lamb is an amazing teacher! She makes Biology fun, she is nothing like any other Biology teacher anywhere! I really have had no experience with any off the subject material that is mentioned in other post. She makes Biology clear and understandable!
good teacher but bio sux
I used to hate Biology but this teacher made me interested in Biology. Her teaching style is incredible and she is so funny that you will never fall a sleep. She keeps you interested all the time. If you study then her tests are easy too. She teaches Biology as she is telling a story. So, you will never forget what you learned.
Lamb was a high school teacher for 20 years and her style is bristly, condescending and geared towards "whipping those kids into shape." She is clear and knows her subject but in comparison to other bio teachers, doesn't require enough from her students who are preparing for medical fields. They will be hung out to dry competing for grad schools
Easy teacher, doesnt require much from students at all, but wants you to understand. Answers any and all questions, she could be more clear, but i think she does a good job and doesnt go into all the detail all the other bio professors do, i still understand the concept & dont have to mess with all the extra stuff. im glad i got her!
She's a great teacher. She does not really go into great detail with the notes so she does not expect you to know every single detail either. The tests are pretty average. As long as you go to class and study over your notes, you should be okay.
One of the most helpful teachers EVER!!! If she see that you are trying that can also help your grade...She loves people to use her OFFICE HOURS!!!test are not to bad but use the books cd she copies and pastes at least half of her test!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Genetics Lab is not the easiest course out there, but I thought Mrs. Lamb was a relatively easygoing lab instructor. She is very helpful and has a sense of humor. Assignments include 2 lab reports, 2 worksheets, a poster project, and your notebook (completion grade). She grades pretty leniently. I though I would be lucky to get a B, but I got an A.
Prof. lamb is probably the best person to take Bio with. she is understanding and will stop the class to help u understand. we built human models of DNA to understand how it worked and it really helped. her exams are hard but its biology... as long as u go to lecture and try a little you will do really good! she is so nice & will help u in any way
Very motherly type, but an excellant lecturer. If every instructor possessed her gift for teaching, college would be worth far more than what we pay in tuition.
Dr. Lamb gave a guest lecture in Mr. Steimle's class. She is so much better than him. shes clear, funny, and less, less boring than him. I wish I had taken her bio111 class. avoid steimle!
She can be rude and she gets annoyed with the class easily when no one responds during lecture. Overall the class was easy - her tests are very straight forward. She moves through a lot of material fast - we were way ahead of the other classes and oftentimes lab. I recommend her though.
Very funny and interesting. Makes lectures enjoyable. She always used powerpoint and put them on Blackboard before class so you can print them out. Doesn't require homework and only gives 4 exams. Always willing to see students during office hours.
Ellen is such a wonderful person. She is so funny and tries her hardest to make the class as interesting as possible. The test come straight off the CD-ROM that you buy with the book...so make sure you study it! The final exam is pretty easy because they are the exact same questions from the "quarks". Great teacher- definately recommended~
Very effective and very good professor!!!
I have never had much interest for biology and i have never been able to really understand it, but this class has made it much easier! she is very nice and easy going, steady paste, tries to brighten up the class with jokes, you will do fine if you attend and take notes!
She is a great teacher. If you come to class and take notes then you should do fine in her class. She is always willing to help you!! Her lectures are not boring and she brings life to the classroom. Overall, great biology teacher for 111 and 112!!
one person really can make a difference
I don't really like biology, but she made the material as interesting as she possibly could. She's very funny and nice, but, about halfway through the semester, she decided to go with the Socratic method, and would randomly call on people with questions. She wasn't actually trying to embarrass anyone, but still....It made me afraid to go to class.
Great teacher
too easy..... all she does is make her tests from the CD rom. Don't even have to go to class just take the quizzes on the CD. I got an A with little to no effort. Which is sad, she should make her own tests it just seems lazy.
she is a great teacher. she says things that are funny, but not lol funny. she really wants you to do well so she is always willing to help out any way she can. the tests are hard, but half the questions come from the CD, so thats a plus. you WILL NEED to study though. the subject is difficult w/ lots of info so be prepared for many late nights!!
she is a great teacher because she offers so much help but the class is hard if your not good in science and is alot of reading but she takes some questions right off the cd-rom for tests. sip are very helpful as well
Ms. Lamb is awful. She cant teach. People say shes easy but no she is just careless. U dont have to attend class. She uses powerpoints where you cant even see the words/ pictures If you want a good teacher where you will actually learn the material and remember it dont take her!PREMED students you will not get efficent information to help you learn
Prof. Lamb knows what she is talking about. I think she is a very good teacher expecially compared to the other bio teachers. I just could not do well on the tests. Her notes are clear you just have to read the text and do vocab to do well.
Not helping
Lamb is a wonderful teacher. Most people bash her simply because they dont do well in her class. She is extremely helpful if she knows you attend. She used the CD for Bio 111, but she doesnt for Bio 112, which there is a lot more applications. I never had an interest in Biology before I took her class, and now I have thought about changing my major
GOOD TEACHER. HIGHLY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE SUBJECT. I DIDNT HAVE AN INTEREST IN BIO BEFORE THIS CLASS BUT UNDERSTAND IT MUCH BETTER NOW. STUDY GROUPS HELPED ME OUT DRASTICALLY, TESTS: STUDY POWERPOINTS & NOTES. 1/2 OF FINAL IS EXACT QUESTIONS FROM PREVIOUS TESTS. I WENT FROM A D TO A B+ IN THE CLASS. BETTER TEACHER COMPARED TO OTHERS!
Pretty good teacher, willing to help. Lectured are confusing... but the final is pretty easy. Kept a C+ in the class. Overall she isnt too bad, gives a lot of points through quizzes and other assignments so its easy to do pretty well :)
She was not the best professor, but I guess it could have been worse.
So much better than Steimle. I hated him...
Be forewarned, you must study for this class if you hope to do well in it. She expects the best out of students and offers plenty of help along the way to get you to where you want to be. Attend class, do the readings, study consistently, and you'll be fine. The final is also easy (over half of the questions come from previous exams).
Mrs. Lamb is funny and willing to help anyone who is willing to help themselves. This is a challenging class, so study and come to class!
I agree with the previous post. Lamb rocks, Steimle sucks...and he smells like dirty socks. what a jerk...
Lamb is great. She is easy to understand and as long as you go to class, you will pass! Her tests are very straight forward and come directly from notes. Overall, an excellent course.
Professor Lamb is an excellent teacher!! Lamb is very east to understand, make sure you attend class and read the required reading and you will be fine. Lamb makes sure that you understand the material. I originally failed this course and when I took it with her I came out with an A.
Take BIO 111 with Mrs. Lamb if you can. She takes some of her questions directly from the Bio Portal, she gives 56 question tests but only takes them out of 50, the final exam cumulative portion is all old test questions word for word. She is also very sweet and sympathetic. She does not like leaving people out in the cold, even if she may come
Good class, very nice lady
Wonderful professor.
This class was miserable from day one, the teacher badgers students who dont show up even if they can ace her exams just by reading the text. Very condescending towards students. If she didnt give pop quizes there would be no reason to show up
Loved her as a professor. She's very nice and always willing to help if you ask for it. Even if you're not in her class and in an upper level bio she'll help if she can.
She is a very good professor. She wants her students to understand the material so she is very helpful. She also has a sense of humor that makes you not as bored in class. Her test are easy if you go to class and take notes.
Class was boring, she tried to be funny, but it was just annoying. Not a hard class, but def have to study
She makes short jokes every single day, as if you don't notice her height. Don't even try to use a cell phone or get on the internet, she WILL call you out. Not very friendly or open to questions.
Very good teacher! Class size is big but she is willing to help in any way she can. Her tests can be tricky but if you study and read the questions carefully then you will be fine.
Very good teacher. Have her for lab as well and so glad I do. You cannot get away with not studying as biology is definitely a study-intensive course but she's a really good lecturer and will help you at any turn, out of class as well. Definitely the best bio teacher I've had. And she's funny too :)
This woman is so funny! She makes jokes about her height and age and such, which tend to lighten the mood :) I will warn you, this is a weeding out course! It's NOT easy at all but it is by all means doable. If you attend class and study your notes and the book, you should do well. She's very nice in person although she is also very no-nonsense. :)
Mrs. Lamb is by far the best Bio teacher I believe at UNCG. She tells little jokes/stories throughout lecture to keep your attention and is very helpful in helping her students succeed. If you come to class, take notes and study notes/book you'll do fine.
Better go to class because she uses those iclicker things, and they accumulate points over time.
she is so funny and attention grabbing. She does get off topic A LOT and you have to studdy from the textbook. She words things to be like "most appropriate answer" and will put some that are good but not most. Thats how she gets ya. Def. would suggest her class. She is more then willing to help in office hours.
I ended up with an A+ in her class but ONLY because I studied. I heard that she was the easiest Bio teacher but only if you actually work hard and study. If you look at the book and study it thoroughly then you should be fine.
Mrs. Lamb is amazing. She is very funny, she teaches things clearly and lets you know exactly what to expect and how to succeed. Go to class, read the book, and do what she says and you'll do fine.
Very funny! You will enjoy having her as a professor. I had an unfortunate case of getting ill early in the semester and had to withdrawal out of precaution, but I still attended her class when I felt okay just because of the content and her way of covering it. Very helpful, sarcastic and blunt, and rational in grading. Highly recommended!
I just finished the class today and ended up with a B+. She's a little older, but she's sharp as a tack and doesn't take crap from anybody. However, she's a real joy in the mornings! Always tries to make class interesting. We did get a bit behind, but there's so much to cover. If you read the book, work hard, and show up, you'll pass. Love it!
Love her! She is by far my favorite teacher at UNCG. She can be a little impatient sometimes, but who wouldn't be teaching a class of 200 people.
I had her for the honours course. She's a real joy and a really great teacher. She'll help you with anything if you just ask. She's also always got sweets in her office. :)
Very good teacher, hilarious and straight to the point! Tests aren't easy, but if you study for them you will do good. Incredibly helpful and nice, very sarcastic.
I believe she was an overall nice professor but she was very vague. I might as well gone to class and read the book rather than pay attention.
Does not follow the book at all and disagrees with it a lot. Makes you work for your grade but definitely possible to get an A in the class if you work hard. She jumps around a little while teaching but you can follow her for the most part. Go to SIP for the class, it will help tremendously! I would recommend her!
She is great teacher, but can be difficult. It is easier if you sit in the front of the class because you can hear and focus better. She is willing to help whenever you go to her office. She does not assign assignments in Bioportal, but she does do clicker questions often.
I took the Honors course. She talks a lot about her personal/family life, but knows her stuff when it comes to Biology. If you need help, go to her office hours. She loves her Honors class a lot more than her regular. Tests are a bit harder, but rarely did we have in-class quizzes. Make sure to read the assigned novel!
Mrs. Lamb is funny and sarcastic, but she knows her stuff and wants her students to succeed. She's passionate about biology and gets so excited when teaching, it makes the class all the better. Go to class because you'll need clicker points, study old tests for the final because she reuses questions, and don't be afraid to ask her for help!
She loves what she teaches. Tests are fair, lectures aren't too bad. Uses iClickers for attendance. Online quizzes mainly, a few in class group quizzes. I would retake her class ifs I could.
I absolutely loved Ms. Lamb! She made BIO 110 as interesting as possible. She has a very dry sense of humor though! If you are a nursing major, take BIO 110 with Ms. Lamb!
Mrs. Lamb is a great professor. Had I put in more effort into studying I probably would have done well in this class. She is very strict and tough but very willing to help and very clear in her teachings. STUDY and you will do fine. She is very fair. I would take her class again if my major called for another one of her classes
Mrs. Lamb is just amazing! She will help you with anything at her best abilities. She may come off as a little firecracker during lecture but she is sooo helpful. Take advantage of her office hours! You have to study for her test, if you do that then you are completely fine for her course. I highly recommend her! She's just great!!
She is a great teacher. Her test are pretty difficult but if you attend class and do all the iclicker questions you will have no problem. Her final is all the test combined so keep you old test and review review review !
Ellen Lamb is by far my favorite professor at UNCG. I hated biology before I came to college, and thanks to Mrs. Lamb, biology has become one of my favorite subjects. She makes lectures interesting so they're not painful to sit through. As long as you stay focused and take notes you'll pass. Her tests come straight from her notes.
The class wasn't hard and I recommend her class if for that reason if you don't like science. But she does talk about her life a lot and always gives her opinion on things which I found annoying.
The most condescending professor I have ever met! She is not approachable at all. She becomes defensive if you try to ask her for an explanation on why you got a grade that you did. She doesn't care about your schedule as an online student and makes you only accommodate hers. Extremely picky with grading, almost impossible to pass her lab reports!
Mrs. Lamb is a really nice lady and BIO 105 lab is pretty easy. However, she is a TOUGH grader. This class was not even a priority for my major just a general requirement but the way she graded was BRUTAL. But you can still pass doing work in DETAILS &hope ur group does good work on the lab reports (which are split up into 1part for each person)
Mrs. Lamb is absolutely the sweetest lady I have ever met. I had her for the honors course, and she has always been willing to help. Her lectures are interesting and very straight to the point. In order to make the grade you want, however, you have to put in some work. Reading the textbook and attending class is mandatory.
At the beginning of the semester I thought I was really going to love Mrs. Lamb! At first she told us to call her nana because that is what she was. But then it was like an evil spirit got inside of her! She basically told our whole class we were stupid. Her class is difficult because she get side tracked all the time! You will know her whole life!
Mrs. Lamb is the sweetest lady you will ever meet. She will help in any way possible. Her lectures were very interesting to me and she really knows her stuff. Take really good notes and stay focused throughout the lecture and you will ace her tests (even though they are tough). I recommend Mrs. Lamb to anyone, she's wonderful!
Mrs. Lamb was a great teacher. She really knows the material and makes it easy to learn considering the difficulty of it. Most of your grade comes from the two tests and final, so if you don't study you probably will not do well. There were some smaller online and in classes quizzes, which were not that hard.
Mrs. Lamb knows her stuff, and you can tell that she is very passionate about biology. Her tests are somewhat difficult. If you do not study you will not do well. She only has two tests and the final, and a few smaller online and in class quizzes, but the tests are the bulk of your grade. Take good notes and study a ton and you'll do fine.
Pay attention in class and do the online quizzes and actually study from the day class start until the final and you'll get an A!
She's very sassy, but witty. She's super sweet and knows her stuff. Go to class every day for clicker points. Take good notes. Study from day one to date of final. Do online assignments and quizzes. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Not a lot of tests, but they count for most of the grade.
Rumor-turned-true She allowed us a sheet of paper full of notes on the second exam and rumor has it she will let the final be take home. Whether it's true or not, it's possible to make over 100s in this class' exams. I made a low B in 111 and a high A in 112. Attend SIP once a week and you MAY still feel the need to study.
Mrs. Lamb is a great instructor, but does get off topic sometimes. there are iclicker questions everyday. also quizzes either online or in class but are super easy if you pay attention. there are only two tests and the final, but if you study and take good notes, you will do fine. also print out the powerpoints she posts online!
She is a great teacher and her class wasn't that bad so its hard to fail unless you don't study. I wouldn't recommend reading relying on the book too much because she does skip around a lot on purpose. So take really good detailed notes and record her lectures if you can in order to really master the material. She gives out a lot of clickerpoints!
Overall she is an awesome teacher! She was always so helpful to me if I needed clarification or someone to discuss my major with. I read the book for my own clarity and extra exposure to material but her lectures are sufficient to pass. FOCUS in lecture and take good notes because if she says it, it is more than likely on the exams. STUDY, STUDY!
Always off topic, gave useless study guide, jump textbook
I'm a non bio major and I hate science but ms. Lamb is such a good teacher. She made the class interesting and I actually learned a lot. I look forward to coming to science class.. like who does?? She is hilarious and adorbs. I recommend taking her for sure.
Tough grader but very good teacher. You can actually learn things.
Mrs. Lamb is very sweet and is an excellent teacher. The class was extremely hard for me because she covered so much information in a very small amount of time. This isn't her fault at all, but it can be very difficult to stay on track. NEVER miss a class!! I recommend recording lectures and taking good notes
I had Dr. Lamb as my lab instructor for BIO 111 and she was great. She's a very nice person, but at the same time, she won't give you a good grade if you don't work for it. Just do the pre-labs and make sure you've completed all of the labs so you can get full credit.
Rude woman, can be insulting. Good lectures and around 50 question tests. But there are only 3 tests and each test covers a lot of material. Make sure you keep up to date with readings and take notes from the book as you go so studying can be easier. This class is hard, you will work your butt off.
I love Mrs. Lamb she is so funny and I could easily understand the material. She does not put many words on her powerpoint and so copying the ones she puts online isn't going to help much, you really need to be in class to get the information. The book is good but she doesn't go into as much depth. 3 test including the final and maybe 10 quiz
Professor Lamb is VERY helpful in office hours, so if you're struggling it's worth getting up early to see her. Her grading is straightforward, but make sure you show up to class in case she gives a pop quiz. The way she organizes her information makes it hard to connect the concepts, but reading the book and taking your own notes are helpful
This class was a breath of fresh air after Bio 111. Ms. Lamb was awesome and she gave us plenty of opportunities to make a good grade (extra clicker points, extra credit, note sheet for tests). I thought she did a great job explaining the more complicated topics and seems to really want to help. Print off the power points and take notes on there.
Mrs. Lamb is very cute and sweet and she keeps the class laughing! she's very straightforward and gets to the point. She has high expectations however I would not take this course again. The tests are very hard and the lectures are far from interesting so it's hard to want to learn and do well.
