Hard grader, avoid her.
She is hard and tough. I wouldn?t take her class again.
She has no mercy when it comes to grading.
Moore has very intersting lecture! You learn a lot from her class! It is a lot of work, but she is fair! She offers extra credit opporunitites. This class was not a cake walk by any means, it took dedication and hard work, but if you attend class and study you will love her class. I learned so much from her! Great lecture! Great information!!
Professor Moore is excellent! The work load and curriculum intensity is average for the university level. She is extremely helpful, informative and open for debate and questions. I strongly reccomend this class before she leaves!!
She was terrible and inconsiderate. One of the classmates got his home destroyed and she gave him zero on his late paper, even though his home was in the news the day that the paper was due, what a classless human being. Who does that? She never gave anyone A or full credit on their papers --that?s how hard she grades.
I would not recommend her classes to my worst enemy.
Ellen is beautiful and I have a hard time not daydreaming about her. She loves what she teaches, and overall it is a great class that opens your eyes. did I mention she is incredibly beautiful??
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Her lectures are alright, requires way to much reading for all of her classes. Thinks her class is the only class students are taking. Never posts anything on time, has no regard for her student's lives outside of her class. Just don't take her classes and be thankful for it.
Dr. Moore is very enjoyable and more than fair. Good availability by email and appts and workshops. Workload quite appropriate for the course level. Do the readings, take good notes and review them thoroughly before exams and you should do just fine. Fun class!
Wonderful professor, very helpful. The class load is intense but everything she has students do is for a reason and allows to learn the material better. When it comes to grading she is difficult but that is to be expected in a 400 level course.
What I can I say? Ellen was & continues to be phenomenal. I have been a fan for years and would love to audit any section she instructs. Prior to communications she was an expert in the Pottery of the Upper Nile in the Middle Dynastic period: a topic almost as attractive as she is. S.
Assigns 90+ pages of reading per day, quizzes on the last few pages; study guides have nothing to do with tests. Learning from her is like swimming underwater in the dark; she gives no clue about what to study, and her grading is incomprehensible. It was an extremely frustrating and difficult class. Though I got an A I would avoid her class again a
Great teacher!!! Tough but if your not lazy you will learn an immense amount of information. Highly recommend taking her classes
She was a great prof. Assigned a ton of reading and quized on it at random. Discussion was intense, and she let her bias be be fairly obvious. She is smoking hot so that makes up for everything. I got an A in the class, so it was all worth it.
To me, she knows what she is talking about. And for those who say its hard and an unrealistic classload, i would have to disagree. I did the readings and showed up to class, which is what a student should do. i took two of her classes and got a 3.9 and a 4.0. So basic studying is a must. Content was awesome, and she is a great teacher.
Has a well organized and clear teaching style. has random quizzes and in-class exercises that keep students attending class, and help students grasp the key concepts. Professor is readily available to help students during office hours, or after class, and is committed to students learning, not just getting a degree.
While Moore is very strict about attendance, due dates, and no electronics, she has a wealth of insight to offer her students. Lectures make use of the entire period and are easy to stay focused on. Quizes will come regularly. Don't expect 4.0's on papers as she rarely hands them out. Simply put, Moore is TOUGH YET FAIR.
My favorite teacher so far. She is hard but fair. She requires a lot of reading, assignments. Her tests are all about concept, the slide she posted and the study guide she gave before the test. Test was not hard...just long.....60 multiple choice questions and 3 essay questions. She gave extra credit too. The quiz is random. She is a good teacher.
She's a tough professor, but if you're serious about what you're studying then it's worth it. Tough grader, tough course work, but overall it's still a good learning experience. I recommend her if you're willing to be challenged.
Horrible instructor. Her lectures are dry as is her sense of humor. She is uninteresting and the material (which has potential) is delivered worse than Ben Stein's lectures. Save your soul, avoid Ellen Moore's classes.
THe most available instructor bar none. I got a "D" on the midterm (no studying I admit), and she emailed to talk to me about it. She worked with my and raised my grade to a 3.1. No other professor has done this with me. So, highly recommend if you like one who cares and is willing to give indiv attention
I will take Moore's classes again & again. I enjoy her lectures & appreciate her willingness to work with us. She truly cares. With that being said...the downfall is that her classes require a TON of work, & WAY too much reading. It is worth it though!
Nice teacher. Tests are hard. She will take stuff out of the readings that she doesn't go over and throw them into her tests. Study the readings over and over to do well in her class.
Incredible class - I learned so much! Dr. Moore is very engaging - uses multiple teaching styles, an excellent mix of discussion, activity, film, writing, etc. The tests are not easy, but if you keep up on reading and attend class you will know what you need to know. Super approachable, clear explanations, overall brilliant.
Ellen is a hard ass! That being said, she is a great instructor, very contemporary, and presents the material well. She has quizzes which you pretty much know are coming and her tests are thorough. YOU HAVE TO READ IN HER CLASSES!
Dr. Moore is very clear about the standards for her class. Participation and quizzes make up a large portion of your grade, so attendance is essential to do well. She holds an out of class study session before every exam and provides a study guide. My only complaint is that teaches a very opinionated point of view that I believe is often flawed.
This class was a game changer for me as I hahve no longe rlooked at the MSM in the same light. Dr. Moore is an outstanding professor. If you put forward the effort, you will do well. If not, well, maybe consider giving up your seat to someone on the waiting list. CAVEAT: The reading and requested assignments are fair if you are a career student.
Gotta say she is the best prof I've ever had. There is more reading in her class compared to my other classes, but you defiantly get the most of your education in her class. I feel like she truly cares about her students learning the material. Can't say enough good things about her.
I've taken her for 5 classes so far. She's a great teacher who cares about her students. She is always willing to help you. Keeps class interesting. With that being said, there is ALOT of reading and she gives pop quizes almost everyother day. Midterms and finals are extremely hard. Take amazing notes and do the readings, you'll do fine.
My favorite UWT prof. She is the most helpful prof I've ever had, you can tell she really cares. While there is alot of reading and info to retain, she is very fair and if you follow her directions you will do fine. She will make you work hard but in the end you will realize why. It is such a rewarding experience. Can't wait to take her again.
I LOVE DR. MOORE! she is hands down my favorite teacher at uw! she is hard, but she challenges you to think! She is so incredibly intelligent, she makes you want to learn! I LOVE HER! if you ever need to take a com class try to get her as your teacher!
She is the best kind of teacher you could hope for: the perfect blend of kind, smart, demanding, funny, and helpful characteristics. She challenges her students but will hold extra office hours, workshops, email, and whatever it takes to help you. If you only ever take one class at UWT, take one of hers. Loved Children & TV. Very fun class.
Completely obtuse. No slides. No study guides for readings. Hardly even a note written on the board. All of the "A" level students I talked to agreed that she grades off of opinion. The class is hard due to poor instructor performance - material is just recycled from 200 level classes. Avoid if you can.
At times this class was frustrating, in the beginning she would dismiss me a lot. But then I got the highest test score in the class and it seemed as though suddenly my insights became worthy of being listened to. Study the readings and take notes during lecture and the tests are perfectly manageable. Overall good class and ok teacher.
Class was great. Clear instructions on papers, and provided you listen and take good notes during lectures you will be fine. A lot of reading and a lot of work, but if you actually want to learn something and be challenged she is for you! Her grading policies are clear, unbiased, and fair. Doesn't grade on opinion but on fact.
Proffessor Moore is one of the best at UWT. She is a hard grader but she is willing to help you get to the grade you want. You MUST do the readings and come to class if you want to pass your exams!! She's funny and her classes are very interesting.
This class was very interesting. I had trouble attending class for a couple of weeks, since she takes attendance she noticed and set me right on track. she was very helpful. Make sure to attend class...POP QUIZZES!
Interesting class and you learn a lot. Tough grader and very particular about terminology use and spelling. Don't expect an easy ride in this class. It requires a lot of reading and a lot of paying attention. Didn't like that she down grades on quizzes for technical errors rather than seeing that I got the answer correct.
She is very spiteful. Gave unclear directions for a paper outline and then deducts points for small errors, like spelling and punctuation. Can be funny, but seems like she struggles to interact with younger people. No useful lecture slides and is extremely unreceptive to questions.AVOID IF YOU CAN!
Very hard teacher but she will help you if you are struggling. Take notes on the readings that are required. It will help for pop quizzes and tests. Use TLC for her papers. She marks 5% off your paper if it isn't perfect APA
This was the hardest class I ever taken at 3 different colleges even though it was supposed to be a 200 level class. It was difficult, confusing and the workload was overwhelming and seemed impossible. You must attend every single class in order to pass tests and she likes to ask questions about her personal stories. I did not enjoy it.
Dr. Moore uses the text and supplemental reading as the basis for the class. If you don't do the readings, you will definitely fail the POP quizzes and exam. Take notes on themes, theories, prominent examples and scholars - you will do fine. While her grading does seem extreme, she makes her expectations clear IF YOU ASK. READ READ READ!
Extremely challenging professor. I took the final today, and it was the hardest test I have taken in years.Tons of reading, very rigorous coursework. MY 257 class was the most difficult class I have ever taken. You will learn a lot in this class, but she answers questions with a very condescending attitude. I would not take her class again.
its not that this professor is especially difficult, its that she makes things purposefully more tricky for not reason. Her communication is lacking clarity which is ironic being that she is a comm teacher. she cannot use the canvas cite well. Her feedback is passive aggressive and rude. She did not grade one thing until the 7th week.
Hard to follow Nice person but expects way to much from her students Lacks follow through and does not respond to emails
she is a harder grader but you learn interesting stuff about media in contemporary society. She knows what she's talking about, using a lot of examples (magazine, tv commercial, and ad)to illustrate the point.the quiz and exam are both hard. expect to do all the readings before the class, she will give you a pop quiz. challenging class but fun
Don't expect the class to be easy, afterall it is an upper division class. She expects a lot from students but you will learn SO much because she is a great lecturer. The class and topics are overall very interesting. Reading the material is a must if you want to pass the quizzes.
The content in this class is very relatable and interesting. Dr. Moore knows what she is talking about which makes lecture fresh each day. Questions on exams are sometimes specifically from lectures, so attendance is mandatory. She seems very intimidating, but will help when you reach out. Taking another class from her.
Dr. Moore is one tough professor. She is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable in her topic, do not doubt her intellect. I think she is a nice person but a very tough grader. Her feedback can be a little condescending and as someone said earlier, very passive aggressive. Memorize EVERY little thing in reading and lectures. Its all free game for tests. No joke.
Super tough grader. Knows the course work very well and was very fascinating to learn about. The group project and presentation was difficult but rewarding, also prepare yourself for surprise quizzes, (they're usually pretty easy since she sometimes has the class decide the quiz questions). Read the readings or you'll feel totally left out in class
She is such a tough tough grader who expects way too much from everyone. Everyone also has other classes to worry about not just hers. She isn't good at clarify what exactly she wants when giving out assignments. If I was you, I would try to avoid this class.
Ellen is really strict about her class. Get ready to read a lot because she gives so many reading assignments. She's a very tough grader and she grades on her own opinions. Her tests are extremely hard and her slides aren't very helpful. It's a two hours class but you can't come late. Either come to class on time or don't come to class at all.
Be ready for a lot of reading and pop quizzes. She does provide a lot of help, but can be belittling in the way she approaches answering students questions. However, she really knows her stuff, and makes class interesting.
To pass this class, you need to turn everything in on time, start papers early and read every single course reading. You must also participate and be on time. That's why her classes are so hard, they require a LOT of effort. Be ready to push yourself to leave early and work hard. Avoid 8 am classes with her, you'll wear yourself out.
She's really tough and very picky about details. You have to explain every thing with the exact wording that she gives you or answers will be wrong. It's almost too much reading and its required for the pop quizzes. However the class was fun and she knows her stuff.
Wonderful professor. You have to do the daily reading if you want to pass her pop quiz's, but the quiz's are usually only 5 questions and relatively easy if you've read the material. Her tests are straight forward, if you go to class and follow the study guide you'll do well. She offers at least 10 points extra credit, too.
Dr. Moore is a wonderful instructor. She is the type of professor that makes students better in life because she challenges you to put in the effort. If you put in the effort and do the work, you will receive the grade deserved. She is clear about her expectations from the beginning, so if you fail, then it is because you did follow directions.
One of the toughest graders and teachers at UWT. She expects nothing but perfection in all assignments. Her tests are extremely and unnecessarily long (over 80 questions) and difficult. She is knowledgeable about the topics, but we are not, so we shouldn't be expected so much from her. READ for pop quizzes. Show up on time or not at all.
Dr. M is tough and expects a lot form her students. That being said, I enjoyed her class and felt that I took so much away from it. She's critical at grading and her exams are long and difficult, but she is always there to unpack and expand on things. You truly feel like you deserve the grade that you receive.
This is y second time taking her and I really enjoyed her class. As to be expected, she was critical and tough at grading. But I enjoyed this class way more than 480... it could be the topic. I hope to take her class again in the future!
You will not be able to get away with not doing EVERY SINGLE one of the required readings. You are expected to to remember not just the overall concept of things but every detail of it such as names, dates, examples given in class, quotes, class discussions and more. However, her lectures are very entertaining. She is also very approachable.
by far hardest professor at UWT. She's condescending and intimidating. If you work, have a family or outside obligations then kiss it all good bye. She expects perfection, participation and you better raise your arm to ask questions or you don't get participation points. Her class is no joke.
Not a class you want to take unless it's mandatory. The instructor is out for blood, meaning she will suck the life out of you and other classes will not matter just to keep up with the high amounts of readings and pop quizzes. The exams are intensive. She will demand all your brain energy to pass the course. RUN if you can.
She has great examples and lectures but she is defiantly a tough grader. Don't miss the quizzes and be ready to read ALWAYS TAKE NOTES
One of the best professors I've taken a class with. Her tests are long;however, she makes herself available to students to provide them with assistance. Interesting and easy to follow lectures. The work load is what is expected for college students, nothing that you can't handle. Genuinely cares about her students well being
Love Dr. Moore. She pushes you on tests and papers but her rubrics are clear & she is always willing to help in person or via email. Her tests are hard, but she provides an extensive study guide & gives hints as to what you need to study. Lectures are very engaging & she posts the slides on canvas for review. Read, take notes, follow directions.
Dr. Moore's class is thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable. Way too many pop quizzes for my liking and her papers that are required are tedious. Overall though, if you take TCOM444 with her, you'll probably enjoy it. She's excellent!
Professor Moore is my absolute favorite professor. Her classes are definitely challenging, but you will walk away with so much knowledge. Her lectures are always great. She does do pop quizzes throughout the quarter but she always gives you a good idea of when they will be, and if you do the readings then you will be fine. She is great.
Ellen Moore is the best professor at UWT. She is intelligent, entertaining and always available to chat outside of class time. That being said, do not take her class if you are unable to put in 100% effort into readings, writing assignments and studying for exams. She also offers a lot of Extra Credit opportunities which is helpful!!
One of the most frustrating professors at UWT. You should expect a lot of reading, pop quizzes happen about once a week, midterm and final are 8 pages BY HAND. Participation matters HEAVILY. This class will suck the life out of you and will take priority over your other classes. Many of us cried after each assignment, she makes you feel defeated.
Dr. Moore is truly a gem to teaching! She works hard to build relations with her students and always responds to email quickly. She is always welcoming to conversation about the topics. She is a tough grader but very fair! If you put in the effort you will do fine, but there is a lot of work so be prepared! Very well organized! TAKE HER!
Took the online version of this course to get it out of the way over the summer. Big mistake! She has a "random grading" policy in which she makes you do a ton of homework and grades a quarter of it. EXTREMELY TOUGH GRADER, and has very little symphanthy for those who work and go to school. Beware, take this course with another instructor!
This class felt like what I expected grad school to be - a lot of work but pushing my limits & I got a lot out of it. Also love that Dr. Moore is focusing on climate change in all that she does- so necessary & relevant. She bought pizza for class all the time, held class online when we couldn't come in, & was willing to answer questions anytime.
Her teaching the TCOM 444 course was very hard as there are pop quizzes and you must be prepared to do plenty of reading and get ready to write the long paper! It can be tough! Otherwise, Dr. Moore really cares about her students & is extremely passionate on the subject. In other-words, I highly recommend taking the course with another professor!
I took Dr. Moore for TCOM 101; good lord there is a lot of reading. I feel like the work load was heavier than my Film Studies course and it was a 275 level class. Dr. Moore is a reasonable instructor though, she does a great job at making to lectures and topics interesting and applicable to today. I would recommend the course.
Professor Moore is AMAZING! Her class was so much fun and I enjoyed every minute. It is not an easy class though. Lots of reading and expect pop quizzes. However, she offers extra credit throughout the quarter. I would recommend this class regardless of difficulty because she makes you want to do well. I would definitely take her again!
Paper heavy, very particular about APA. Must do perfectly, will find the smallest inaccuracy. Lots to read! Information you learn is powerful. Tough class and prof is hardened, like she is trying to prove something by being tough. She made a grammatical error in comments of my grade that demeaned me. She apologized. Learned a lot, and enjoyed info!
She a tough grader. Don't expect an A if you aren't willing to dedicate 3 hours a week. You can spend 3 hours on a paper still end up with B if you make a simple mistake smh...
I dont understand why shes such a highly praised teacher. This was an elective class and the work load was ridiculously heavy, especially for how strictly she graded. She is completely heartless, cold hearted, and non-sympathetic to her students. Im truly shocked at the good reviews shes received - do not let them fool you. My worst teacher yet
This has to be the worst class I have ever taken. I spent every day 5-8 hours reading texts, making slideshows and finding sources just to be told it was not good enough. She constantly changed what she wanted. I really was curious about her book but after hearing about it 200 times during every class, I feel I don't have to buy it anymore.
Deeply respected
Worst class i've taken, not because of content, because of Ellen. She is an unfair grader, with very little effort to help students improve or to explain why a grade may have been received. Even if you turn in a perfect assignment with no errors, good luck EVER getting a perfect grade. She is passionate about the work, not you. Not a good quality.
She is very particular when it comes to grading. Points will be deducted for minor mistakes. Lots of reading and a couple group projects.
Prof Moore is one of the best professors at UW. She genuinely cares about the well-being of her students, is extremely helpful in providing you with information and always challenges her students to think past the surface level of a concept. She is very insightful. Her classes arent easy but you learn a lot from her!
I will start with the good. Overall Dr. Moore was a great lecturer. Her lectures were always interesting and engaging making me look forward to contributing to the conversation. However, she assigned ridiculously long readings and would never let anyone make up a test or quiz if they were absent. She was also an incredibly harsh grader.
One of the most unreasonable professors I have had. She does not let you make up quizzes that you may have missed for whatever reason and is unwilling to help. Don't take any of her classes if you aren't prepared to get the life sucked out of you.
She is a great lecturer, but other than that she is overall terrible.
*TCOM 312* Terrible professor!!! Awful lecturer, unengaging, unorganized, full of herself and VERY nit-picky when grading. Grades your big assignments and gives you NO feedback because it's too much work ???!! I have stopped people from taking her courses and will continue to do so until I graduate. Should have listened to others who warned me.
I've taken TCOM 444, TCOM 312, and TCOM 310. I have learned so many things from Dr. Moore I brag about this woman so much. YES she does expect you to come to class, she expects you to do readings before class, she expects you to participate, etc. This is normal specially if you're in the communications major. she drops your lowest quiz at the end.
Moore was organized. Definitely be prepared to do normal college things, like read before class, participate, write (the horror I know hahaha). Overall, while the course was made difficult by trying to guess what she was looking for, I truly learned the most in her class compared to all of my other college courses.
Worst professor I have ever taken at UWT. No exceptions for group work mishaps. Theirs two types of hard classes. Hard and fair, and hard for the sake of being hard. This is the latter. You need to write to her personal preferences or else your grade will suffer. Seriously, take this advice, avoid at all costs!!!
She has very high expectations from students, if you don't participate in class she will grade everything harder and you will fail. The hardest class I ever took at UWT when it shouldn't be because it's COMMUNICATION.
Despite the difficulty of the class, I found it very enjoyable! Dr. Moore clearly has a passion for what she teaches and it makes the lecture so engaging. Although the material is very complex, I appreciated that she tied everything together, so you're not focusing on 1 topic per week and then moving on, which was helpful to understand the material
I don't get why all the negative reviews have thumbs down (must be her or her students that actually like her that are doing it) but believe them! She assigns such a heavy workload, it took up more time to complete her assignments than my actual program classes. Very particular in grading. Do NOT recommend. Not to mention she's rude.
Time Management is crucial. 4 group projects all in 4 weeks while also having an exam and midterm paper due in the same weeks. In the group projects you are required to use google docs where she will analyze and doc points on the exact amount of work you do and the exact times everything is written
TCORE 104* Amazing, intelligent professor who cares about her students. Easy to reach and will help out if needed. Lots of readings, but as long as you skim and find the important parts you're fine. Participation matters because of quizzes and random-ish pop quizzes. May be able to drop poor assignments at the end.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Because of this class, I got into stress management. Discussion posts will take you HOURS!!! I'd rather clip my shirt to the back of a car and be dragged across the highway on my KNEES than take this professor again. She demands sooo much and the assignments are extremely difficult. I regret this so much and so will you!
I regret not listening to the other reviews of Professor Moore. She consistently gave an unreasonable amount of assignments with very specific and lengthy directions over the quarter. Be ready for her to write at least 500 words in her feedback to you - I seriously question how this professor has this much time to give. Everyone barely passed.
Syllabus is very clear and is right about spending 10-15 hours on this one class alone. Extremely stressful for me, discussion post are about 1200+ words, papers are difficult even with extra help. She is passionate about her work- doesnt really allow wiggle room. Toughest grader Ive had, Very particular with her grading if not to her liking.
Professor Moore runs a challenging but rewarding class. The workload is heavy, but if you stay on top of readings, participate, and utilize study tools like unstuck study, you'll learn a lot. Definitely worth taking for communications majors.
Dr. Moore gave many large readings, some of which were dense. For those, you should read the abstract, introduction, and conclusion ONLY. She is very caring and engaging in the presentations; participation is required. There is a very large 9-11-page paper on framing. This can be challenging if you miss a few classes, so be careful. 10/10
