VERY easygoing. Lets you turn in stuff late without taking off points, no pressure from her at all. Cares about you, wants you to learn, but doesnt force it. One of the best teachers I've had. Funny too.

Excellent teacher. Very relaxed about assignments. Very lenient on due dates. Seems to care a lot about students. Topics discussed were very interesting. If you are thinking about taking EN 101 sign up for one of her classes!

really easy. she told us the final exam on the first day, which was just a question about how we felt about the class and etc. you learn alot though. i admire her way of teaching. wish other teachers were like her. i know i will remeber the stuff in her class for a long time.

Ellen is one of the best professors I've ever had. I've had her for a lit course, and she makes the class very fun for everyone. She's very cool, and is easy on her grades. I highly recommend that you take at least one class with her; whether it's an english course, or a lit course. You won't be disappointed!

She has a very unique way of teaching, and I like that about her. The class is very interactive. She shows interesting movies and picks great selections for reading.She is very flexible and open-minded,and she is a sweetheart.

GREAT TEACHER. I can not stress enough how well of a teacher she is. She gave us plenty of freedom and space to write without pressuring us to much. She is fun to listen and has lots to say. Going to class isn't graded but your work still is. She really tries to get the students to think. I'd say she is one of the top 5 teachers I have ever had.

SHE IS SOOOO COOL! Ellen is the best english teacher I have EVER had. She is so laid back, fun, funny, freespirited. She gives you however long you need to write your papers and allows you to revise them. She listens to everyone's perspective and has great discussions. More like a friend than a teacher!

As others said, her teaching of EN 001/101/102 classes is excellent. But her real talent is in the high-level literature classes. She has a lot of stories to tell, and makes the reading fun. She always has a lot of time to talk to you, and remembers your name. I took both EN 101 and 222 from her, and would highly recommend any class she teaches.

OMG! Prof. Olmstead is AMAZINGGGGG.. Her classes are great and she pretty much gives you the entire class to work on essays.. she is very cool and laid back but also very helpfull!!

Prof. Olmstead was my first college teacher. I took a summer class with her, EN 101, and she was AMAZINGG! She made everything easy, only used the text book on occassions, only wrote 4 papers, no test, no midterm, no final. But remember, i took her Summer Session I, so things might be different for Fall and Spring sessions. TAKE HERR!!

OMG ELLEN, dont judge her based on her look or that she is a lesbian. she is open minded and interested in what all other people have to say. i made the mistake of making fun of her at 1st but im in her class for 2 months now and she is a amazing teacher, she understands what college students go through. on occasion she will just cancel class

SHES AWESOME! the topics for essays are interesting and relevant to young peoples lives. she cancels class a few times. always updates you by e-mail. really cares about students, sometimes uses part of the class to tell you which courses to pursue and recommends professors. very smart. knows all there is about english. helps you with anything.

She is the best EN101 prof at MC. She doesnt care if you come late or miss some classes. NO tests or quizes. A true prof who cares about the success of her students. Show up, write your papers, turn them in on time, and apply what you learned in class and you will 100% get and A if not a B. Awesome prof, very funny, down to earth!

Ellen Olmstead. She gave me an +A in the class but I had to work hard for it. I took Women in Literature during the summer. You have to do a lot of reading and a lot of discussions but it's pretty easy all you have to do is read and participate and the A is all yours. Olmstead is a great teacher. I highly recommend.

Professor Olmstead is really a very nice person, and has a way of teaching that ninja style sneaks up on you, and you remember the important information she teaches! A warning though, she is very political and shows somewhat bias videos in class, but even me being a conservative, it was interesting to see things from a different perspective.

Shes a great teacher. Really easy A. She makes boring stuff more interesting and shes really down to earth and not psycho like a lot of other english teachers.

A very laidback professor. She gives you more than enough time to work on an essay and revise it as much as your hearts desire until the end of the semester when she collects it. She doesn't grade essays until the end, so in class she'll teach you writing techniques and hold peer review sessions to help you revise your papers mostly. No textbook.

Take her , she is so smart in explaining everything very clearly ... Only had to write 3 essays and one in class (Summer class) . Take her if u r looking for an A or B and at the same time want to learn something useful . .... Great professor !!!!!

Fantastic teacher. If you write about things you are passionate about, which is non-negotiable with her, she will take an interest in your writing, and you as a person. I had many talks with her after class which were more helpful than with any teacher I've ever had. She immediately makes you feel accepted and welcome. Also, it's an easy A.

Take her class whatever she teaches. You will get an A with only a little work. No book needed, and she doesn't take attendance. I got an A in EN101 class in summer secession. Feeling so relax.

Ellen is hilarious and great at getting students excited about the material. Class is very discussion-based--if you don't participate, you won't do well, especially considering she doesn't assign any other work other than reading. Everyone in my class really liked and respected Ellen and we were all sad when the class ended.

This is the class that changed my perspective on English, though I referred to the textbook minimally. It's more fun to write for me now. The class consisted of four papers and numerous smaller assignments, mainly conducted on the discussion board. Prof gives good feedback, and while the class was quite a bit of work, I would take it again.

English was never my strongest subject, but now I feel a lot more confident in my writing ability after finishing this class. Not a tough grader. Work is posted in an organized manner and easy to follow. Do the work and you'll be fine.

She's just a brilliant teacher. Probably the most detailed feedback on essays I've ever seen a teacher give, she literally made videos going through students' work sentence by sentence to make sure that people understood what they were doing wrong. Very clear instructions and also a great & interesting lecturer.

Took her Film and Lit class over the summer during the pandemic. It was great! We watched movies and discussed them. Usually we have to read books also, but because of the current situation and it being summer that was tossed out. Which was awesome! It was fun just having to watch movies and discuss them on blackboard.

I took an online Eng. 102 class with her she did assign papers that were super long but its eng. 102. what did you expect? she was a fair grader and not tough whatsoever. she works with you and makes sure you understand and learn from your mistakes. she takes the time to review examples during class without exposing who the student is.

Professor Olmstead is honestly amazing. Such a well rounded person who genuinely enjoys what she teaches hopes only you enjoy as well. She doesn't grade based off what you wrote or how you wrote it, as long as you explain it in your own pov and you enjoyed what you read. As long as you just do your assignments you are guaranteed a good grade.

I took Professor Olmstead's summer course (Film & Literature). This class was very easy and fun. You are mainly watching movies outside of class and giving feedback. Participation does matter and you must show up to class. Her teaching style is awesome. There is a group project at the end of the semester.
