read your books, take your notes, pass the class.
Yep, take notes, listen and you'll be fine. She's a nut though.
Avoid her at all costs. She has a good general knowledge of many topics but has little depth in any of them (except Vietnam... she skipped clear over the World Wars just so she could harp on the Vietnam era). Find another 2110 class or become best friends with the book.
She's kind of weird. She scared me, but ...? She talks alot. Lots of reading to do. YOu read like thousands of books. Which cost a fortune. Didnt really have fun in the class. Thought hist was fun. Change my look on history, big time. Wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
There is a lot of reading, but the tests are pretty easy. She does not show up for many classes. She cancelled over 9 classes this semester, but if a student missed more than 3 classes, she took points off his grade. Class is interesting, but she's a little full of herself.
She was rude when students ask questions. I didn't learn much in her class or maybe because it was so boring that I couldn't absorb anything
do NOT take her class...she's very boring and very unclear..kinda weird too
Very easy Professor. Gave alot of reading but it was bascially everything you learned throughout high school.

She is a little different then the other professors I've had at GA State. I think that, overall, she's a great professor becuase she pushed me to write better essays, but even when I wrote some really**** papers, she cut me enough slack to give me a comfortable B. I've taken her twice and I have a friend who's taken her three times. She's more personable than most profs becuase she actaully has a life. She has two sons who are pretty young, so if she cancles class, that's generally why.
Terrible teacher. Spent several lectures covering Evolution, PA Railroad Strike, How Warren G Harding was the worst president (although she didnt know he died in office) and other irrelevant topics for US History. Ignored 1790s to 1860s. Book quizes have trick questions. Thinks she is Einstein.

Very creepy. Has an awful attitude when you ask her simple questions. The lectures are sooo boring and your required to do tons of reading. She's quite arrogant and hates to be corrected when she's clearly wrong. For your own sake take another teacher unless you want to deal with a bunch of ATTITUDE everyday.
Shes alright. Give you 3 books to read and pretty easy tests from it. DOnt take her if u dont wanna read, but doesnt every class make u read? Lecture is boring indeed. I dunno what on earth her tests compose of till the date of test. Just read over notes and u'll be fine.
I think she was the best lecturer I have ever had. She made a potentially boring class very interesting. There is a lot of reading but from great books. To my great surprise, I very much enjoyed this class.
Class is not that hard but there is a lot of lecturing and a lot to read. If you take good notes you will do fine. The books are interesting and the course packed of assigned reading is a lot to read but none of it is on the test. If its not in the lecture, its not on the test. She seems nice but hates cell phones. I learned a lot. take her.
She should have a better rating on here. The assigned readings alone are enough for her to be an above average teacher. If you like history take the class, you will probably do well. Plus she's hot which is much better than not.
Overall a decent professor. The class was a breeze for me. We were fortunate enough to have the help of an S.I. instructor...definitely better with SI. There is a fair amount of reading involved, but her tests and quizzes are not that difficult. Mostly short answer questions. Be sure to read all the assigned books and take good notes.
Interesting professor. Very down to earth but a bit nutty, in a fun way. Extensive reading but all were good books. She's a picky grader (grammar, fan of the use of 'had been', etc.) but she gives you plenty of chances to rewrite papers. Gives excellent feedback on papers. Had 4 quiz/hw and 2 essays (5-7 and 7-8). I would take her again.
She was a pretty good teacher. She was very thorough. There was alot of reading assigned. I would recommend her, as she makes the class quite interesting.
Awful professor
She is a good professor. She's not boring or anything. She does not allow lab tops or cell phones. As long as you pay attention, then things should go smoothly. She does not include every little detail on her powerpoints, so take notes as she talks to you as well.
I have no idea why people are saying that she's weird. I didn't get that impression at all. She has reasonable expectations, and if you did poorly in her class it's probably because you slacked off. Her lectures are very informative and she posts her PowerPoints (with notes) on WebCT, making it much easier to study. I would recommend her!

She spent more class time on morbid subject than anything else. Also a great amount of time was used for out-of-class assignments (videos and such) that more people forgot than remembered. could have been better. I would not recommend this professor to anyone who wants the least amount of work.
The tests were fairly easy if you study a little. I took no notes because she bored me to death. She could care less about the people in her class and if they pass or not. Pay attention to the syllabus for the schedule because she WILL NOT remind you of assignments.
I didn't like her at all in the beginning. Later on, I found her not too be that bad. I think her lectures are interesting, and she sometimes discusses the most random topics. She doesn't give busy work like some professors do. I didn't like it how she made us print really long documents and sometimes kicked people out of class for not having them.
Ok, so keep up with the resding an you'll be fine. She likes to call on you if she thinks you haven't read. Study her review sheets for her tests, and DO NOT FORGET to print out documents if she tells you to, SHE WILL Kick you out of class and make you write a 2 page essay on the topic. If you do what you're asked the class is no sweat
The best teacher I had at GGC so far. Tests are not hard, she lets you know what's on them ahead of time. Very knowledgeable and makes learning fun. You definitely learn a lot from her and she pushes you to do well. She's a super cute lady who deserves nothing but good ratings! Very fashionable too!
I did not like her class at all. She keeps changing the syllabus and often never tells the students when she does. She often rants about the smallest issues. She is impossible to contact via e-mail. She is very biased and does little research. I also believe her grading system for debates is skewed and is partial to certain viewpoints.
Makes you use your brain. Always willing to help. Will change your perspective of history. (in a good way)
Very good professor. Read the syllabus, do what it says. There is a good bit of reading to do between classes, but it is history after all. Debates are interesting, add variety and give you practice speaking. Doesn't mind critiquing work before you turn it in for a grade. Responds to email promptly, open to scheduling meetings. Taking her for 2112.
Rafshoon is a fantastic teacher! She teaches well and gives good notes. She is adorable as well and very nice and flexible if you have an issue (such as a trip out of town). Tests are easy if you went to class and lecture is engaging and often times amusing.
Her class is not difficult if you can smile and seem like you're paying attention but then go home and learn it all yourself. Do the test study guides and you're good. Not a fantastic teacher, but not horrible. Certainly wouldn't go to her just to chat.
If you want to pass, write down EVERYTHING she says! The powerpoints won't help you if you only copy what is on them. Her tests are hard and require A LOT of studying. If you want a challenge, take her class; if not--don't!
I've taken her twice. Shes so enthusiastic when shes talking she makes it interesting. If you are lazy why are you in school. Anyone willing to work shes willing to help with ANYTHING. Tests are easy if you pay attention. Eveything she puts on her powerpoints is whats on the test so COME TO CLASS! Didn't read the book once just took notes, got an A
Dr. Rafshoon, requires a lot from her students. You will be doing a lot of reading. Her class alone will take up A LOT of your time. Overall, a very nice lady and very helpful but just don't get on her bad side. Always show up for class. Online quizzes are a little difficult. I love history but this class took a lot of my time up.

Overall, a very nice lady and very helpful but just don't get on her bad side. Always show up for class. Online quizzes are a little difficult. I love history but this class took a lot of my time up.
She has her class take an online quiz every week. They are difficult and do count answers wrong even when specifically right there in the text. However she is willing to work with you...If she ever responds to an e-mail. She is not the easiest person to talk to. When in class she looks at one person, and only one person THE WHOLE TIME!
Lectures are not that bad. Very helpful if you don't understand something. Tests are kind of hard, as well as the weekly quiz online. Class will take up ALOT of your time. Take good notes and read your book for the quizzes.
If you're just looking to take the class & pass with a B then DO NOT TAKE HER! If you're a history buff & want a challenge, go for it & more power to you! She demands a lot of her students so proceed with caution.
One of the best instructors I've had. She is professional, but has a sense of humor. She expects you to read, do homework and come to class. That's why you are there, after all. The debates are a good learning tool, and the Jeopardy games/reviews before tests really help. Highly recommended.
She expects a lot from you, but you learn a lot in her class. She does get intense at times, but it is only due to her passion for history.
I honestly have to say. Dr. Rafshoon is not a nice teacher. She might come off that way at first. But you will quickly see that it is hidden under a veil of snobbery and some sort of ego-complex. Do yourself a favor and take someone else who doesn't look down on you as some of peasant and will respond to your emails and actually help you. Thanks.
She is very snobby, and at time inconsistent in what she wants. Not very easy to talk to, but enthusiastic about history. Class is ok, but only take it if you have to. There are way better US Hist II teachers.
she is pretty good. tells you what to study. doesn't take attendance so missing class isn't the end of the world. can grade harshly at times. i'm takin her again so i know what to expect. has a rather annoying laugh......
Dr. Rafshoon is one of the best professors GGC has. The people complaining about her are lazy and don't belong in college. I had some idiots in my class that thought Chicago is a state...I got an A; you get what you put into it. The main problem with GGC is that there are LOT OF PEOPLE (students) that don't belong there...
Her class is simple and easy. Her lectures are clear and to the point as well as her tests. No one should have any issues with her classes.
Very straight forward, her lectures are the test so showing up for class is very benificial. She does online reading quizzes so stay familiar with the section if you aren't going to read because the questions are practically word-for-word in the book (the quiz is timed). Very good course overall.
She was just ok. I studied really hard for her tests and still didn't do very well. I wouldn't take her if history wasn't a strong subject for you.
Dr. Rafshoon inspires me to learn more about history. Her class is not easy but it is not difficult either. As long as you do the assignments and you attend class you should make a pretty good grade. She is very knowledgeable and her lectures are very clear and easy to comprehend. Take her class, you won't regret it!
Do not take her she ill make you feel miserable.
Omg, when I took her class... it was all to easy! Just simply the easiest class ever. If you struggle in her class at all, that means you are obviously not trying... AT ALL. This is college after all, and if you can't handle an easy b+ in this class, what are you doing in college?
She is not easy when it comes to grading, and is not crazy about answering questions either. Most of the time she has attitude toward students. I would not recommend her.
She is not as bad as people make her out to be. I actually enjoyed her class. I was able to listen to the lectures and pass the quizzes. You NEED to read the books assigned though because there are quizzes on them and the only way to know the answers is by reading the book. Take good notes and do well on the quizzes. You will be just fine.
Great teacher, really knows her stuff. Show up, take notes and you will do great!
She will make you look stupid if you ask q! Horrible! Would not take her again!
Love Professor Rafshoon. She makes her lectures extremely clear and easy to follow along take notes (lots of them). No pop quizzes, but you will have reading "activities" online as homework once or twice a week, they're not hard. Attendance counts, but she gives two or three extra credit chances.
She gives two tests per semester, one midterm and a final. She does not react well to students having questions on the material but she explains her ideas in depth. Her class touches a lot on African American history (the post 1865 class at least) and not too much on many other aspects of US History that also have great significance.
Professor Rafshoon's lecture was always interesting. She would always gives something like a short clip or article to read relating to the era we were learning. Her tests are clear cut, just review your notes from lectures and the handouts she gives out. There are only 2 exams which is the 2nd exam is the final and 3 quizzes, and online homework.
Take her. She is passionate about her class. Go to class and be on time. She will not give you credit for the day if you are late, other than that she is fine. Online assignments were easy. Mid term test and final test thats all. Also a very simple map quiz. Just do everything ahead of time and you will be fine
If you don't mind a professor that constantly uses the word "umm" then she is perfect for you. I get really aggravated with that so it was hard for me to pay attention. otherwise she is a great teacher. Test easy, and homework easy as well.
Dr. Rafshoon is a great professor. I've learned a lot throughout the semester. History has never been so interesting but, taking her was definitely worth it. Her class is comprise with 2 Exams a midterm and, a final also a film project at the end of the semester. However, not much homework or quizzes.
She is an okay professor. She does not really teach the material, and the study guide she gives has things that we did not even go over in class. If you do not like to learn on your own , do not take her.
Easiest History class ever. She said If you missed 2 days it was an auto F but I didn't go for about the last month or so and still aced the class. Power point based class but it's very easy. Can't really elaborate on how easy it is it's like, she even gave us a heads up on what would be on the Final.... Super Easy
Dr. Rafshoon is the best history teacher I've EVER had! She actually made me enjoy history! I skipped most classes because it was at 9am, but still made a good grade in the class. Very easy grader with easy tests. Weekly quizzes online but superrr easy. You can only fail if you don't take the quiz. Passionate, nice teacher. Love her!
She is very easy to get along with and goes easy when grading. There is always an extra credit assignment and few things are graded. 2 test's that are just like the study guides. Answers questions in full.
Dr. Rafshoon is very passionate about teaching and really knows her history, but I would not recommend taking this class with her unless you are an education major. She relates most things to a future in teaching, assigns heavy amounts of reading, and has very high expectations of students understanding the material. Her tests are difficult, too.
2 test and online homework from online textbook. Great professor who is caring. Weekly homework online. Nice lectures during the easy hybrid class. Bonus: group pop quizzes!
This class was an easy A. It was a hybrid class. She does mini lectures in class, lots of power points to watch at home at your own convenience. Lots of extra credit and bonus opportunities open book and notes test. I love it and while I wasn't too thrilled about the subject she made it quite enjoyable I wish I could take her for more classes.
Dr. Rafshoon is an AMAZING teacher. She is very passionate about history and i took this class an elective. She gives great feedback and as long as you follow along in class, you will pass the class. Lectures are heavy but as i said before, if you show up and pay attention, you will do great.
One of the best professors Ive ever had . The work is extremely easy and she makes the classroom enjoyable to be in I would take her class every year if I could . Theres only two big tests midterms & finals. Theres homework every week but you have unlimited tried to get it right. If you do your homework and come to class you will pass. She cares
She cares a lot when you start talking to her and asking her how to do better in her class. She's very nice. Her lectures can be a bit off of what we're supposed to know for the tests. The quizzes are done individually and by groups that she assigns to you. Only had two tests in this hybrid class (second test was final). She'll give study guides.
She seemed awesome at first. She is nice &I enjoy her lectures. She really knows what she is talking about when it comes to History, but she is condescending & impossible to please. She refuses to admit when she is wrong. She is the toughest grader I have come across at GGC. You can work hard on something, expect an A or B get a D. Don't take her
This class was taken was a hybrid so there was a lot on independent work. Some of her assignments were unclear. She was a tough grader but you can tell she cares about the students and their success.
There are only two tests in her class, you get to use your notes and she provides a study guide, but the test questions are completely unrelated to the study guide. She does group TBL where everyone in the group receives the same grade. Offers extra credit and learning curves are due every week. Not the best prof. Just do the work and you'll pass.
She's a great person and she cares about her students. There are only 2 tests in this class (midterm and final) and group quizzes where you're allowed to use printed notes or handwritten notes. She gives study guides for the tests, but the test questions are completely different from the study guide. You'll receive homework every weekend online.
She's the worsts college professor I've ever had. The class was a hybrid course and very unorganized. Her online due dates did not coincide with the syllabus. Her grading is very inconsistent as well with little to no justification behind it. If you are a teacher cert. major like I am you will learn how educators should not conduct themselves.
There were 2 essays, one midterm, and a final exam in this class. She lectured for most of the period and occasionally had us do a quiz or group work. Her quizzes and tests were nothing like her powerpoint lectures, so you have to get used to the way she words her questions.
I took Professor Rafshoon. She's an average teacher. Gives out homework to do (reasonable, it was a hybrid class). She made the class easier due to COVID. However, I ended the class with a 89. I thought that I had put in a good amount of effort and emailed her to ask if she could round my grade. She didn't reply and I kept the 89. I'm still salty!
This class was a hybrid class, so a lot of the learning was self-guided (though Dr. Rafshoon did provide mini-lecture videos to accompany the reading). Some of the material did seem to be based in opinion rather than fact, though. Overall, Dr. Rafshoon is very approachable and was very clear about her expectations for the class.
Dr. Rafshoon is a good professor but she can grade tough but overall the class isn't very hard.
The assignments were easy and straightforward; however, the grading was incredibly inconsistent. If you are taking this course take the time to receive some extra help on citations as she is picky but does not offer great resources. The class in general was fun and I enjoyed the textbook.
First things first, she DO TOO MUCH. Doesn't give accurate time on quizzes and tests (the quiz would be 20 questions and would give you 10 mins). She wants you to recite back to her boring lectures and textbooks every assignment. She WILL NOT open any assignment after it is due cause it is "unfair" no matter how late you are or your circumstances.
Don't take her Her yapping is annoying, homework and tests are nothing like what she "teaches"
Hybrid class but the professor only showed about 7'xs. She expects perfection but is very unclear and contradicts herself. I was always on edge because I didn't know what her mood was going to be that day. Snobby, political and an elitist-she even told us to Google her family. I enjoyed the content, just not the atmosphere. Disappointed.
While I succeeded in this class, I still would not recommend Dr. Rafshoon. Her grading was all over the place, and I had to email at least 4 times to correct her mistakes on my grades. She closed an assignment 3 days early, and would not replace the zeroes everyone got because of it. Her attitude is demeaning.
I only took this course to meet USG requirements, as I already had credit from AP US History. Dr. Rafshoon's online weekly quizzes were very simple and easy. Her writing assignments however, were nonsensical. Grading was inconsistent and any outside info is totally banned in essays, which makes no sense since this isn't an introductory course.
Loves to teach which is clear by lectures. Is not that great at answering emails or giving clarification if you're confused about quizzes or anything. Not insanely tough grader but the final exam was a bit difficult compared to other exams. Pretty easy course though.
Dr. Rafshoon was very kind and her assignments and exams weren't very difficult despite the amount of content that we covered! She even acknowledged my interest in history and invited me to a fun after class event with other history majors and professors to meet with them!
