BORING! I dreaded everyday of this class. Bring a good book to class.
Just don't snore too loud, she might hear you
She is an excellent instructor. Her examples help drive home the points.
great teacher. NOT boring. easy a.

I have learned alot in her class.

Great professor! Cares a lot about her students
good teacher, really nice long legs
No Comments
good class. boring lectures but i've had worse.
Shes boring and she doesnt care about her students
Def. of monotone, dreaded going to class, still got an A, very knowledgable
No Comments
monotone and boring but very clear. listen and study and this class is an easy A or B.
class isnt hard but damn the test grades were a lot lower than I was expecting after studying. Just pay attention and go to class and it isnt that bad.
Easy, just attend class everyday to get notes. Don't need book ever. Test mulitchoice with a few calculations, all from notes. She never misses class and always on time.
Very attractive!! I never figured out what was going on in class, not even sure i needed to be there. Have fun
GREAT TEACHER!!! She's really nice too, and she'll help you out if you go to her office. You do need to go to class though, and you should do allright. It does require some studying.
Study and go to classs, easy A. There is no need to buy the book. Extra credit Quizes
I bet she got that degree over online
makes economics understandable and is a really nice lady. go to class to get the notes, she is very helpful at the end of the year and give extra points here and there to get your grade up.
She is cooler than a polar bear's toe nails. Do the quick checks that are on her "over online" homepage, know the notes and graphs and you'll get an A.
boring class but if u come to class you should do aight
Very knoledgable and clear. Just make sure you go to every class. She doesnt take attendance and if you know econ alright you shouldnt have to buy the book.
She is really boring. You think you know everything and then do worse than you expected on the tests. she is very nice, but the tests are kinda tricky
Very good teacher. GO TO CLASS and you will be fine. It's simple - just do what she says and its an easy B
She wants you to do well. Cares about her students and also helps you learn concepts not just memorizing them
awesome teacher. Go to class and take good notes and its an easy B. Tests can be tricky but also easy if you think. Dont even need to buy the econ book really, all tests come from the notes. overall a good econ teacher.
Not an easy class, but she makes it interesting... RIGHT??... Yeah! Good at explaining things and making you understand. No attendance policy but i encourage you to go!
At the beging she may seem scary and hard but not at all.She is just awesome and wants you to do well. All you need to do is come to class, take good notes, do the HW and the tests will be piece of cake for you(and easy A). Take her- great professor
She is great. If you go to class and read the chapters, this class is a very easy A. Like any class, you have to try and understand. Her tests are relatively easy too. She does have an attendance policy in the summer.
Grr...Definitely not a fan of her, somehow you walk in with one grade into the final and then it magically drops a couple letters! WTF! She's scary with the same hair-do, part thing going on...people cheat and she somehow doesn't notice!?! Grr..don't
By far the lowest grade I have made in my whole life, even though I worked my butt off. Grade definitely did not reflect my effort. Good teacher, but poor preparation for tests (no study guides, no reviews, no problems to work). Good luck with her!
She is a good teacher. Much easier micro than managerial. Worked very hard for a C. She wants her students to do well. Sometimes you have to pressure into helping though.
economics just sucks period..lol, but she tries to use real life examples when teaching. Not a bad lady...seems pretty nice...economics just sux pd..but what are ya gonna do?
She is a great professor. Will use real world examples when she can to explain stuff. If you pay attention, attend every class and take notes, you will do well. See her office hours for more help. She is willing to help you get an A!
You have to attend class. She is very monotone and her apperance is too. Econ is just a crappy subject anyways, she dosent have an attendance policy which makes it hard to go to class which makes it hard to pass the test.
She is a good teacher. She teaches things in depth and clearly. I just do not like Econ! She is monotone, but has her own sense of humor
The class is not that bad but you must go to take good notes. The exams are based mainly on your notes so..........Go to class and you will do fine.
The class itself just sucks, but she trys to make it enjoyable. Very monotone voice but if you take good notes and study the book the class is a breeze.
econ blows...lol, but she is probably the best teacher for it. uses real life examples to help you remember concepts....
All of the tests are based on her lectures. She attempted to make a boring class more enjoyable. She did explain concepts in the easiest manner possible. Did not even need the book. Very good professor.
She's okay. I don't know what the person below was talking about, because her examples are horrible and not real-life at all. BUT, if you go to class, take notes, and go over the "quick checks" before the tests, then you should do fine.
What are you guys talking about? She's the most boring teacher I've ever had period. Her lectures always put me at a daze they're so boring. When I took her, I could have been the most hyper person alive. But as soon as she started talking, I'd struggle just to stay up. DO NOT TAKE HER
Class was not too bad, considering the subject. She's gives good notes and gives helpful examples in class, but I suggest buying the book if you really want an A. Get your hands on the old tests (easy to find for her class) and it will help tremendously!
What a trip! Loved every minute of the class, she really brings things back to reality and out of the theoretical clouds.
Easy Class during Summer 05. Unneccesary to buy the book, Exams derive from lecture. You MUST attend class. Take notes, do the quick checks online and you will get an A. Uses examples to explain all theories of supply, demand, and markets. Whoever said micro is harder than macro is crazy. Use common sense and logic and you will pass.
Good teacher. Doesnt take attendance but the tests are straight from notes in class. Explains things really well.
She is a really good professor. She gives great examples to make things clear. Don't bother with the book because her tests come straight from the notes, so if you're one to skip class, you may not want to go with Sewell.
Good teacher, she relly tries to keep you entertained throughout the class. Her test are pretty hard, even with the quick checks. I had her in the Fall 05, and her test were kind of tricky. If you go to SI and attend class you should at least get a C. Nice teacher.
she is a good teacher.. lots of examples along with her teachings.. tends to get VERY boring though.. but she tries to keep students involved with this dull material.. go to SI sessions and do practice problems.. tests are very straight forward and mostly word-for-word from notes..
It is my advice to take Macro before Micro even though the university doesn't have a preference on which one you take first. She expects you to know some basics. You have to read the book, do the practice tests and go to SI to get a B or higher. She is very dull and monotonous, but very knowelegable in her field.
I had her for summer school and it was tough. She gives pop quizzes-sometimes twice a week, therefore attendence is very important. Take good notes b/c sometimes you can use them during the quizzes. Although I learned a lot in the end it was a hard class. Her test are difficult.
THIS SI THE BEST ECON TEACHER AT UNCC PERIOD. I TOOK MICRO OVER SPRING AND SHE WAS SO GOOD I TOOK MACRO OVER SUMMER WITH HER. I MEAN SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT AND IT WILL MAKE SENSE. SO TAKE HER FOR MICRO/MACRO, SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER AT UNCC FOR ECON. THANKSSS MS.SEWELL
Ms. Sewell is a great teacher. Really good at explaining economic concepts and was very fair and easy. Provides a lot of examples with concepts and is very approachable. Quizzes are tests are very fair and if you come to class and keep up with the notes you should definitely get an A!
You will want to take Macro before Micro. I did and it made this much easier. She's a great proffessor and wants you to do well. Listen to her and she makes it clear how you can get an A. It doesn't get any clearer. Attendance not mandatory. But if you should go every day, it makes it way easier.
tests are hard but she knows what she is talking about
Wonderful professor, true educator. Prof. Sewell is clear and helpful. Economics can be difficult for some people but she is always willing to help and cares about her students. If you do not go to class, just drop out of college because you will not gain anything from this class, if you do not go and will most likely fail.
Attendance is not mandatory, but with her giving quizzes out so often, it's hard to miss one class and not miss a quiz.
Professor Sewell expects you to read her mind when it comes to Industrial Org and Public Policy. Don't take this class if you can help it. She doesn't use any kind of visual aids and just rambles off. Its so hard to keep up with her. NOt to mention she is rude and is useless in helping students with mandatory papers.
Gives quizzes on average every 3 days. Very boring. Does not take attendance but you'll DEFINITELY need to be there for the quizzes. I C'd my tests but missed a bunch of classes/quizzes so I failed the class. Go to class and you'll be fine. She's really helpful!
I took macro and micro years ago when she went by Miller. If you show of to class and do your homework and correct mistakes on your homework this is a very easy A. Years later I find economics much more interesting. There needs to be a class on economics gone wrong. Exploring how economies collapse are like a train wreck. cool stuff
dont miss a class, you have to take a easy quizz 15%of grade. study question which are posted online. you dont need the book because her testscome sraight from the notes. Just attend her class and take a note if you take a note well you need to study for 2hour to get an A each test promise,If you absence and try to learn from book no more than 75
Not a difficult teacher but I recommend you read the chapters before lecture. Try not to miss class as there are pop quizzes. Tests are heavily based on notes, so pay attention! Only a hard class if you make it hard.
really nice!
All you people who enjoyed this were clearly free-basing. She is like the female Ben Stein in "ferris bueller's day off." Her tests are tricky and a lot of the answer choices are contradictory. Take Carol Stivender instead, who's tests are much more generally oriented instead of focusing on some BS details you may have missed in class.
Go to class and read the book you will be fine.
her class is extremely interesting, she relates everyting to the real life which makes it easier for you to get the idea. attendence is optional but if you attende the class and take a good note you will get an A. her test is not easy but if you paid attention to her examples in the class and be carful when reading the questions you will be fine.
Exams are extremely easy if you do her quick checks. Take good notes in her class and you will get an A for the class. Gives a lot of pop quizzes to bring up your grade. Two easy homework assignments. The quizzes aren't hard at all. Learned a lot! Glad i took her for micro. :)
Attendance is not mandatory but she does give pop quizzes every so often. VERY few hw assignments. Does not use powerpoint slides, which can make notetaking a little difficult. A good professor overall - answers questions both in class & by email!
Just go to class. She's a really good teacher, clear and straight to the point. There wasn't homework the year I went, but just studying was enough. I recommend this teacher.
Avoid this professor for ECON4180. She jumps from one subject to another, no consistency on what she is talking about. No clear examples.
i recommend this teacher; she is a remarkable educator! whether you took macro before or not, she will explain everything very clearly, with life examples, and not moving forward until the topic is 100% clear! no HM, only occasional pop-quiz (4 or 5 total). book reading would somewhat help, but can get an A without it, if attend all lectures. A+!
I understand the info but her tests are hard and only 30 questions on several chapters. There are a few "pop" quizzes and 1 homework, most of your grade is from your tests. I hope I can pass her class. Id appreciate more homework, study guides, notes, handouts, supporting material for this course. Going to class and the textbook are not enough.
This class is very hard to study for. Going to class and reading the book are the only study tools you have. Unfortunately she does not use power points so you have to take great note. However note are note enough to pass her exams. I found them to be extremely difficult. Take someone else if you can!
Extremely hard test. Boring teacher. By the end of the semester, this class gave me ulcers due to her test. She made a moderately difficult subject EXTREMELY difficult. I took this class again and got an A after getting a C with her, and it was a tuff C to get. Avoid this professor.
Great teacher! does well to explain all material except for a one or 2 outlier questions on each test. Take good notes and study her quick check she gives as a study tool. lot of problems from it show up on tests. HW and quizzes are easy. If you pay attention you will get an easy A.
Great professor who knows what she is talking about. She will do whatever she can to help you succeed as long as you go to class. Old school, with no powerpoints, but it works for her. Her tests are not too bad, and she gives pop quizzes so GO TO CLASS!If you need a B in this progression course, TAKE HER!!!
An awesome teacher! She teaches old school, all lecture and no powerpoints. She tries hard in every class to get her teachings through. One of the best classes and teachers I have taken at UNCC.
Good luck if you take her. She's rude when you ask questions. Hard to take notes from her monotone lectures. What she says does not match book. I would highly suggest anyone else.
Dont TAKE unless you like learning off a chalkboard from a monotone speaker. No powerpoints, no handouts, test are hard, not very interactive. She talks down to those who ask questions as if she is all knowing, makes students feel dumb. DO NOT TAKE
Don't let these people confuse you. She bends over backwards to get points across. Yes, she doesn't use powerpoints or handouts. She asks multiple times a class if there are any questions. She's more than willing to meet with you. The people giving her bad ratings probably never went to class and expected to pass. Amazing woman.
I don't understand the negative comments. She knows her material...that's why she DOESN'T use powerpoint. She will STOP at any time to answer questions and she is helpful inside and outside the class room. IF you go to class and pay attention and actually STUDY instead of memorizing the material...you will learn and EASILY pass the class.
NOT a fan. She talks down when you try to ask questions... did not use book at all.. her lectures never went with book... made it hard to study... She isn't boring, but she does make you feel stupid
Def. knows her material. Does not do pwrpts, SOMETIMES writes on board. Listen carefully and take detailed notes. All tests come heavily from class notes and some quick check. 3 quizzes, 3 homework, 3 tests (all curved for us), 1 final. Does some extra credit. Lets out early occasionally. Drops lowest HW/Quiz grade. Boring, but nice and helpful.
Economics has always been difficult for me but Prof. Sewell is very clear and easy to understand. She writes on a blackboard but it wasn't a problem. She is very understanding if you have problems and was responsive to emailed questions. If you go to class you don't need to read the book, but if you miss a few classes I would recommend it.
At all costs don't take her. Her tests are extremely hard and very wordy. Not the best at explaining things. Good luck if you take her.
Don't take her. She makes the material really hard to understand. She is old school and just puts all of the notes on a overhead. When you get into graphs good luck keeping up. You have to try very hard to get a C in the class. Monotoned lectures. Tests are extremely hard and wordy. When asking a question, she'll make you feel stupid.
Really horrible teacher, she is really knowledgeable and stuff but when it comes to teaching others about the subject she is bad at it, you can try reading the textbook but her tests are tricky and worded hard as well. I highly suggest taking a different professor, getting anything higher than C is almost impossible in this class. STAY AWAY!!!!
She is very knowledgeable of the material she is teaching. If you are not all that interested in the material, you may want to seek a different professor. However, if you are willing to learn, take her. You have to put the work in and study but I made a B without buying the book. Her tests are tough, but everything on the tests, comes from lectures
I wrote this review because i think other reviews are not fair. I completed this class with an A just by attending every class and taking good notes. If you plan to miss a lot of classes then choose someone else otherwise would recommend her 100%
The Bad....Monotone, boring, and difficult test. Every class at least 5 people walked out to keep from falling asleep. The good? Very knowledgeable and anything she lectures about is in the textbook for review. Test can be very tricky. Her multiple choice questions are like riddles.
Go to class!!! She is a good teacher but the material is tuff no matter who you take it with. She explains things well by using real life examples. Seriously all I did was review my notes each night for that day during the summer semester and made an easy A. No need to buy the book. Just go to every class and you're guaranteed a good grade.
im taking the class with her now and shes an extremely nice professor. incredibly difficult class even for econ students though. iv heard that its a gpa killer. try to avoid if you can.
Dr. Sewell is tough, but a great professor and I think she cares more about her students than anyone I know. She really knows her stuff and makes her classes very interesting. Highly recommend!
Dr. Sewell was probably one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. In the way that she explains everything, she does really well. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does give pop quizzes aka quizzes where all you do is write your name and get a 100. As long as you pay attention and study you'll do just fine. And you don't need the textbook!
Professor Sewell seems like a good professor, until you go to for help or clarification and she talks to you like you're stupid. She won't help you if you have a question andor did poorly because she assumes you didn't go to class, do the homework, or study even if you did all of the above.
Reconsider taking her class. Very harsh grader. Grades only based on 4 tests including final and a measly ten precent paper.
Good professor. Lectures are dry, but she gives you the materials and resources you need to pass the course and the tests. Always holds review sessions before tests which are helpful for clarification. Go to class! I don't like ECON that much, but she makes it manageable.
I passed the class with a C and found myself not paying attention in any of the lectures. she is extremely hard to pay attention to, but I would recommend trying your hardest to attend class and pay attention, many of her test questions come straight from the notes. reading the chapter helps. attend class, get 1oo on easy participation quizzes.
Not that great of a professor. Very hard to follow and not that clear on certain concepts. Does a lot of extra pointless talking, which makes it very difficult to know what to take note of. Definitely would not take again. Literally just passed the class with a C and it was a required pre-requisite for me.
I do not recommend taking her at all. The problem is, she's the only one usually teaching Intermediate Micro so you don't have a choice. Extremely hard grader and the tests are 50% multiple choice and 50% written which in my opinion is absurd. She expects you to know how to draw graphs accurately to reflect economic data. She is needs to retire
One of those classes you have to take for engineering at UNCC. Boring lectures kept me from going to class as she basically just follows along with the book. I think she's been there for around 25-30 years, and has lost most of her enthusiasm to teach. Honest, nice and fair person. Just not a class to look forward to. Easy to do well in.
Her lectures are based on a few sheets of paper that she puts up on the projector. She doesn't post them on Moodle. She talks quiet and doesn't use the mic so sit in the front of the room. She doesn't say much about the textbook but it's incredibly useful for studying since she doesn't post any answer keys for the study questions for exams.
Good teacher if you put in the time and effort. Not hard material. Tests are 60%, but not hard just 30 multiple choice.
Very clear with the material and is helpful if you go ask for it.
Took her for ECON 2102 over the summer, shes a good teacher. All homework was very easy and I made some of the best test grades of my life in this course as well. She is very clear about her information and presents it in a way that is easy to comprehend. I would recommend. I also didn't even get the course text book, wasn't necessary.
I loved taking Econ with Sewell and I would definitely take her again for another Econ course. She is very fair and consistent with her exams and very helpful if you need clarification or help on any of the material. She also offered an extra credit option that gave you up to 10 points on the final exam!
Ms. Sewell is a great professor she curves almost every test a minimum of 10 points becaause they are fairly rough, but she also provides a study guide which can help you. If you take good notes many questions come directly from those notes so just go to class and participate and you should have no problem getting an A or B
Great professor. Very smart, very well spoken and knows what she's talking about.
One of the best business professors I've had. Super helpful and as long as you pay attention in class and study its an easy B. Great lecturer with useful examples, bring slides to class, textbook not necessary, curves most tests, and is easy to reach outside of class.
Took this class as a pre-business major looking to get into finance and switched solely because of her. Very quiet and reserved, but if you get to know her shes very intelligent. I loved her class. Work hard, take good notes and study and you'll be fine. She is one of the best in the department and school
Ms. Sewell is an absolutely amazing teacher! Please get the book. After lectures, reading the book would help explain things more or clear up things I found confusing. 4-7 HW assignments total. Study and be sure to read the book and you will be fine! She is more than willing to help anyone. Also study the practice tests they are good prep material.
She was a pretty usual professor, she definitely knows what she's talking about as she's very knowledgeable, she brings real life examples into the lecture which is really helpful. She's an approachable nice lady and is willing to help. The class is not hard, especially for an economics student. I'd be okay with taking her again.
Great lectures. Explains concepts very nicely. There are (really basic attendance style) pop quizzes but she just wants to encourage you to be in class. The content is manageable and easy to score high if you PAY ATTENTION in class/take notes and show up to all classes. Course content is difficult unless you have a lecture break it down for you.
Come to class everyday and you may not even need to buy the textbook. Print out the lecture PowerPoint before class as she goes over the material quickly, and you will be better off spending your time listening to the lectures than trying to copy down all the diagrams and paragraphs. You should also be prepared for a small amount of technophobia.
Very intelligent professor. She really encourages TO THINK on the topics, which most students don't do. A lot of stuff is common sense if you THINK. I learned so much about the economy, people, world, etc. from this class. Make sure to do the practice exams - very helpful for exams. She does not curve every exam. Work hard and think.
Gave one pop quiz and five homework assignments and then the rest of the grade are tests. Incredibly dense topic. Hard to follow lectures sometimes and didn't learn much from the class.
This professor is the worst teacher I have ever had. I doubt she even understands what she's talking about. At one point she told me to drop her class because I 'wasn't giving it enough time' when I was spending hours a week studying. She isn't willing to help students and gives boring lectures for the entire class period. DO NOT TAKE!
Her lectures are incredibly boring but it is important to take good notes and listen, tests are based heavily on explicit stuff covered in class. Practice exams kind of help but only to an extend, notes are most important. She does a good job of putting stuff into easier / more relatable terms. Occasional pop quizzes.
Great professor. Makes the concepts easy to understand. Tests are pretty straight-forward and are more concept based. Gives extra credit for final. She's more beneficial for office hours because the classes are large, plus she's a good resource for your major. Very approachable and smart. Would take again.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. She reads off a piece of paper that is projected to the class; no powerpoints and the notes are very boring. The only grades you have are a few homeworks and pop quizzes, 3 tests, and a cumulative final. When you try to ask questions about grading she tell you to look at the syllabus for grading info.
Her lectures were so hard to pay attention to. Her notes are also not helpful at all unless you go to class. She reads from a projector in a monotone voice for an hour and fifteen. I wish I had taken a different professor because she made the topic hard to understand. I would not recommend.
Most difficult professor I have ever had. Class average for all tests was in the 50s. She intentionally makes tests super hard and there are only 3. She also creates her own tests that are NOTHING like the textbook or study guide.
