She's great! Very friendly, gets to know everyone, & a great prof.
She gives you a study guide, tells what's on tests, how easier can it get???
Very friendly, tests are over a lot of material, you have to take a lot of notes
SWITCH TEACHERS IF POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice teacher! Never need to read book! 90% of exams are on notes!
she's great, tells you EXACTLY what's on exams, from notes, no need to buy book
Wonderful, very nice, understanding, great prof. learn a lot
she likes if you ASK questions...and make sure to take good notes.
Talked about her kid a lot. Nice lady. I had fun goofing around in her class.
I learned a lot from her. She is very easy to understand.
good prof. take GOOD notes, tells exactly what's on tests
Great instructor and very willing to help. Made I/O psych interesting.
not willing to work with students at all, thinks she is the smartest person ever
Really nice and helpful, tells you exactly whats on the tests, TAKE GOOD NOTES!
Boring. Grades on tests and group excercises only.

good proff. take lots of notes that is what is on tests, it is a lot of info
Very nice teacher, learned alot, take lots of notes but they help for the test.
Take her if you like memorizing research articles and long boring lectures.
Great prof! Take good notes. Very helpful. Sweet Lady :)
very nice, take notes, but study a little from the book
Loved her. She is a lot of fun to learn fun. Good sense of humor.
Very enthusiastic, really understands what she's teaching, friendly and fair!
Tests are hard & lectures are boring.Makes taking notes easy, not willing to help
Awesome Prof. You will learn so much!!!!

knowledgable, understanding professor! Class is not easy, but IS manageable!
not easy to understand, conflicting arguments and data, she doesnt take critism
Awesome prof. if you read and pay attention/take notes you'll do fine.
She is a wonderful professor. Very helpful outside of class, makes class fun
Hard exams, but she was very intersting
Challenging, but if you study the notes you'll do great on the exams.
hard tests so must know the material, tests are essay and short answer
Nice lady. Interesting class. not easy (or hard) but worth the effort
Very helpful, she made class fun, but glad the tests are not only grade.
wonderful class, great teacher...hard but fair tests
informative, knows the art of teaching, helpful, very real, take her!
Nice, but shows when she's irritated. Tests are hard, I learned more in 101.
TAKE HER CLASS! she is very clear and organized. study and you are fine
Nice woman, tests aren't too bad either.

Nice woman, well organized. Tests are not bad if you study.
Very nice lady. Tests aren't bad if you study. Be sure to go to class AND read the book, because she tests you over them both. Very organized classes & notes.
Very nice woman. Tests are over lectures AND book, go over both and you will be fine.
Tests can be difficult! Study hard and you can do well! Buy the study guide!
Very easy to follow in class. Tests are all essay, so you have to know your stuff. Know the study guide and you'll do fine. :)
She is great! So far this semester she has been very helpful and flexible. You really have to study for this class because the tests are all essay, they are tough but she grades fairly. I highly reccomend Dr. Shupe if you have to take this class.
Exams can be very tricky, but she makes it easier with the study guides and in-class review. She tried to get students not to use this site but I guess it didn't work!! haha...
Very nice!! Tests are easy if you do the study guide!! :)
class was well formatted, and the work dispersed throughout the semester. tests are all essay, but doable. i liked her and would recommend her, go shupster:)
Good prof. Tests are easy if you take good notes and do the study guide. Class was a lot of fun.
I wouldnt say the tests are easy, but she is very helpful and always gives us a study guide. Also, she is always willing to go over papers and fix them before you hand them in. But she sure does hate this website! lol
The tests were all essay, the material was not taught well, the textbook was useless, and there was a ton of worthless stuff we did.

300 was tough but fair. Tests are all essay but not as hard as they seem. She gives study guides and sticks to them for the most part. 360 is a lot easier I think. Always willing to help if you ask for it.
very nice lady, and very helpful, do the study guides and you will do fine in the class.
The class was really hard i thought and i am pretty good in psychology. Her tests are not all essay 15 multiple choice 2 essay and 3 or 4 short answer. They are pretty hard. Study hard and u should pass.. take another prof if possible.
She presented material in an easy to understand an consistent way. Went over things that students struggled with. If you are willing to work you can get an A.
Take really good notes and use the book! Her tests are wordy and she grades tough on essays but if you study, keep up in class, and get any help you need from her you can do good.Lectures can get a little boring and hard to take notes from.
She is a great professor. All essay and short answer exams, but they are not bad. Make sure to attend class and read lecture notes. Not alot of textbook, but covers it all in class so make sure to pay attention. Very helpful and flexible.
Material was not easy but she is easy to understand and is always willing to help you. she is very clear on what she expects and will help you get there. Essay exams not as bad as think. Good sense of humor and very friendly outside of class. great professor. GV should have more like her.
Great professor, if you like essay exams ;(
Ellen is the most caring professor I've ever had. I can't imagine going on this study-abroad trip with any other professor. The course is AMAZING and seriously changed my life. Highly recommended!!
Hard material to learn, hard exams. Nice lady but shes flaky and somewhat disorganized. Go to class and take all the notes.
Her exams are all written, she grades pretty tough. She likes a lot of detail. She breaks the major paper up into a bunch of little assignments which is helpful. Her lectures are very clear and she answers questions well. She is very willing to post practice problems and examples for the paper parts. posts old tests so can learn her testing style.
I thought you were an excellent teacher and I would recommend you to anyone.
Fabulous professor! Material is somewhat difficult, but she's very clear, and gives great lectures. She's really funny, and totally willing to help you out through email, during office hours, etc. Would definitely recommend!
This class probably sucks no matter who you take it with. She grades really hard on the paper (that's worth a huge chunk of your grade), isn't always very clear on expectations. The tests are killer.
I strongly recommend Shupe for PSY300 because she makes what could be a very difficult class into something manageable. She grades the paper generously if she can tell you put in the effort, but if you slack it'll show in your grade. She didn't put any super hard stats questions on the essay exams, so she is "GPA friendly." Overall a great prof!
If you are stuck taking 300 your best bet is to take Prof. Shupe because she makes it clear and as easy as it can possibly be. Exams are all essay but you have options.. so it isnt all that hard. Papers SUCK ofcourse but she makes them reasonable by splitting them up so you have a chance of fixing them for the final paper.Overall NICE and GREAT !
She's a real nice lady but can be unclear at times. Her tests are all essay, but just write everything you know down and she is usually generous. She expects alot from her assigned papers and does not give all that much direction, but they are doable. I found her to be easy, but we did have like 10 people drop.
She is very helpful if you ask questions even during exams. Her exams are all essay but if you go to class and take notes they aren't too hard. Going to class is very important to get a good grade in this class. I've heard horror stories about other 300 profs and i would highly recommend her.
Ok. The class is hell. It's boring and I wanted to gouge my eyes out while studying for it. Having said that, Professor Shupe is probably the best prof to take this class with. She's pretty thorough with the information and friendly. Tests are fairly easy. Just show up to lectures, you will do fine.
It's the most boring class ever, but she's pretty clear about what she wants from you when it comes to exams. The paper and essay exams were are harder than expected.
TAKE THIS THE SEMESTER AFTER STATS, CUZ SHE DOESN'T GO OVER ANY STATS STUFF VERY WELL. SHE ASSUMED THAT WE KNEW HOW TO USE SPSS CUZ SHE DID NOT GO OVER IT MUCH IN CLASS. HOWEVER HER FIRST 2 EXAMS ARE FAIRLY EASY ESSAYS. THE PAPER TAKES MORE TIME THAN ANY PAPER I'VE EVER WRITTEN, BECUASE YOU CAN'T WRITE IT WITH OUT RESEARCHING A LOT.
Her class is pretty boring, the lectures seem like they would never end. She's picky on her grading, which can make the tests hard. She is very open to explaining herself though, which is helpful.
Her exams are ALL essays so be prepared. go to class because she doesn't post notes on BB, and material is tough if you don't hear the lecture. very helpful when working on the paper. recommend getting a tutor& if you do well on the 1st exam then don't worry but she looks for lots of detail on exam, and its hard to get it when taking so many notes
class can be boring however she makes the material easy to understand. Research paper is due at the end of the semester however she has you turn in portions of it throughout the semester so at the end you just have to put it together, it makes easy! All essay exams, fairly easy if you know the material. study hard!
This class is only as difficult as you make it. I found that this professor made it rather easy. She is very helpful and clear with her expectations. Is the class difficult? Yes. But she is more than willing to help! Her tests are multiple choice and essay, and can be difficult-so study hard!
Social Psychology is very interesting! She is obviously an amazing person and her class is full of relevant information to our everyday lives. There is a group project due at the end of the semester, make sure to get started on it earlier rather than later!!! Definitely take her class!
She is very kind and helpful to the students. You must attend class and get notes for the material on exams/quizzes. Exams were multiple choice and quite a few essay questions, in which she likes detail. Overall, very interesting class. If you attend, get the notes, and study them, you will do fine in the class.
She is an awesome professor! She definitely knows her stuff and has a really good way of getting points across to students. Shes very clear about what she wants from you and as long as you go to class and study, you will do fine. There is also a group project but its not too bad as long as you get together earlier rather than later.
I was not excited to take this class, because it is terribly boring. She makes it as interesting as it could ever be to me and is really nice and friendly. Her exams are difficult, and she gives two SPSS assignments and one big paper for the class.
I took her for 360 too! She is awesome!!! just study all your notes and put detail into exams and you will do good!! SHUPE ROCKS!!!
You do not have to read the textbook, a plus! Her presentations are enough to study from. The written portions of her exams are tough. She claims she looks for specific points in your writing, but she'll mark you down for not going in depth enough. Overall though, a good professor. Definitely not the worst I've had, one of the betters.
Shupe is a good professor but I felt like I didn't learn anything in her class. Her exams are overly difficult compared to the material that she gives in class.
Offers a lot of opportunity for points in class besides exams. I rarely looked at the textbook. Lectures are very interesting and laid back however, the exams are very intricate with questions that seem to come out of nowhere unless you thoroughly study all material. Overall, a good class and she is very organized :)
Her exams compared to the material given during lecture do not compare. I would have to study the book before any exams to understand the material. All exams are short essay and she is very difficult grader! Just a heads up!! I
Great professor, very interested in her studies, cares for student progress, works well with students
Best teacher I have had at GVSU. Great examples and really gets you to understand the subject. A good solid teacher
Terrible! She grades very hard. Assigned a huge paper she never taught us to write and teaches in a condesending tone..RUN AVOID HER
She is a very harsh grader on things she did not teach us how to write. For example a semester long paper that she tells us nothing about how to write yet grades as if we should be experts. Very nice woman good lectures, but a very bad grader. I attend every class participate and take detailed notes and will be lucky to get a C.
Professor Shupe is one of those professors that can't give 100% on anything. She took off 0.05-0.25 points on sections of my assignments for ridiculous nit-picky things. I would have gotten an A in this class if those little points hadn't added up. On the plus side, she's friendly. Buy an online textbook so you can search keywords when studying.
Fantastic. Clear, highly organized lectures. Explained topics clearly and in a logical order. Tests were over material either covered well in lecture or that she had instructed us to read out of the book. HW was easy if you put 2 hours into each assignment (there's only two). Extremely interesting class, practically useful.
She was a awesome professor! I would recommend taking research methods only with her, I have heard other professors are horrible. This class was hard but she really helped to make things clear. Her tests cover pretty much everything from the lecture, final exam was super easy! I 100% recommend her!
This class is just challenging in general. She is a great professor to teach the subject. She will answer any questions you have before quizzes and exams. Her study guides are kind of intense (she has you answer 10x more questions than are actually on the exam to prepare you for anything). The textbook is useless. Use her PP instead.
She was a great professor, but her instructions for the research proposal were vague and she would always write too vague on my tests for the written portion even though I know I answered the question.
SUPER tough grader! Don't expect to get 100% on anything because she will find at least one thing to mark you down on. Lectures are easy to understand. Textbook is used for quiz. Can pass the test without reading the textbook. Assignments are easy to understand and she will look over any paper before its due to give you feedback which helps you.
This professor is helpful and will work with students to make sure they are getting the needed info. Lectures feel a little long but not too bad and the information is extremely interesting. There is a lot of info on the exams so make sure to do the study guides.
Great professor that took the time to get to know students and was always willing to help. Gave exam reviews before each exam outside of class. Willing to review papers and give clear and helpful feedback. Very knowledgeable and clear. Not an easy class, but she makes it manageable. Highly recommend for Research Methods.
Why I would recommend taking Prof Shupe's class: 1) Lectures & course material are well organized. Printed lectures slides are a mix of info she includes & info students need to fill out. 2) She really cares about her students. After a class did poorly on her exam she made sure to give helpful feedback, study tips for her exams, & encouragement.
One of the better professor's in the psych department. Very nice professor who gives great feedback on assignments. Always willing to look at assignments before they are due so she can tell you how you can improve. Very passionate about what she does. This class involves a lot of work but prof Shupe makes it not so bad in the end. Highly recommend!
Great professor, you can tell she really cares about her students. However, her lectures often felt a bit dry and drawn out, and tests are pretty difficult, but she offered make ups because so many people struggled. Highly recommend.
Exams are pretty straightforward if you do the study guide. She holds study sessions before the exams. The research paper can be very hard if you are not familiar with how to do them. She gives a lot of feedback on rough drafts. She definitely can seem nit-picky with her grading marking off .1 here and there, but it's better than a full point.
I really liked this prof and would recommend her. She is lecture/powerpoint style and sometimes shows video clips. She's really good at teaching her subject and is super nice. Study guides reflect the exams well, always offering help, and is very fair. Maybe a little nit picky, but overall, if you study, you will do well.
Professor Shupe is super nice and really cares about her students. Exams include several essay questions with multiple options to choose from. The multiple choice portion can be challenging, studying is suggested. If you skip class, definitely make sure you can get notes from someone.
Lovely person inside and out. It is clear that she really cares about her students. Yea I am probably going to end up with a C, but it is my own problem for not being able to easily comprehend the subject, especially statistics. Professor Shupe did her best to help me when I needed it! Highly recommend taking her!
Attendance isn't manatory in the grade book, but your test grades will reflect your involvement. Her lectures are easy to follow along with as she will post incomplete power points and then lecture with completed ones. I really enjoyed learning from her.
I loved Professor Shupe! The class is extremely interesting and she is always very clear of what everything means and how it applies to every day life. Tests are straightforward if you read the book and understand the material. I would recommend her to anyone who is interested in psychology.
Professor Shupe was fantastic! She breaks up the final proposal into steps throughout the semester so it does not feel overwhelming at all. She gives very good feedback on the paper and her tests are usually fairly easy! i highly recommend taking her
Professor shupe is a great person and I really enjoyed the class but if you're looking for an easy A then this is not the professor you want. She is a tough grader and when going to ask for help she doesn't give much feedback. I wouldn't take this professor again.
Professor Shupe is the first professor who acts like she understands our college workload. She moved tests and canceled classes during high stress times. She makes you work for your grade, but is willing to offer advice to achieve the grade you want. If you know the material on the study guides you should be fine on the exams. Take her!
Only 4 tests, 3 quizzes, 4 assignments, and 1 research paper that will be turned in at the end of the semester. Her tests were fairly hard as the material got more challenging as the semester progressed. Definitely don't wait last minute to study. She isn't helpful answering questions via email so instead schedule an appointment with her.
This was not an easy class, and expectations are high, but that should be a matter of course for an advanced research class. Roughly half of the class periods consisted of brief consults, and structure was minimal. Success is dependent upon initiative, a solid PSY300 background, and willingness to seep help when necessary. Prof Shupe is wonderful!
She hasn't taught the class in a while so she wasn't organized. She treated it like a grad level course. Two group projects but both are conducting research and writing the research article. Multiple quizzes and assignments on assigned reading materials. She's has a strange grading system, instead of half points you may get tenths of a point.
She gives bullet points on certain topics, but doesn't completely explain the concepts and leaves them to be discussed by the class. She had a hard time keeping the class on track because students would talk about their personal examples too much. Her exams have about 20 MC and 4 essay prompts and there are essay quizzes. She can be a picky grader
Professor Shupe is an extremely nice person and very knowledgeable on social psychology. The lectures were interesting and cohesive. I never dreaded the class and was always happy to go. The final is noncumulative and the exams are clear and consistent with her study guide.
She is a great professor! Her slides are easy to follow and she discusses everything very thoroughly. She makes class fun by breaking it up with partner work or group activities that aren't bad at all. Her exams are not shocking, she tells you exactly what you need to know and the expectation is clear before the exam. She is awesome!
Mrs. Shupe is a good professor, but Dont take this class unless you are willing to work hard. One major downfall she has is that shes super lazy when it comes to answering emails and fails to answer any question Ive ever sent her. Which was extremely annoying.
This may be one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. You will have four exams that are Multiple choices which is very challenging and essay questions. You will also have three quizzes which are based on scholarly readings. If you want to pass this class be prepared for long nights of studying and make sure to attend all the classes.
Prof. Shupe is awesome! PSY 300 can be a very challenging course, but she works hard to make sure everyone is on the same page. The research project was broken up and she made it a lot less overwhelming than it could have been. Not a lot of outside studying needed, just SHOW UP and pay attention -- you'll be all good. She is understanding.
She's an extremely caring person, but this class is hard. She has very unclear grading criteria and often treats it as if everyone will be continuing on to the higher level class. You have a semester long paper and numerous exams. Exams are half multiple choice and half short answer.
Professor Shupe is very nice and it's clear she knows what she is doing. I had her for a very lecture heavy class, and although she is good at explaining the material, her lecturing is very bland. I just found it very difficult to sit and pay attention. If lecturing and note taking is the way you learn best, you'll do well. If not, avoid this class
Shupe is a wonderful prof. The class is based on two exams, some quizzes, and two homework assignments. The exams are half mc and half short answer. While the class and information is easy to learn, she is a tough grader, so make sure you really know your stuff for the exams. She makes you work for it, but that's normal for a high-level class.
Her assignments were out of few points, and she graded very harshly. A 6 page paper could be worth 10 points in her eyes, and if you mess something up you are done for. She expects your papers to be one of a graduated psych major, which is not exceptable for a psych 300 course. TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
Shupe is a really nice person, but grades really harsh. The only grades that you have are exams, a few quizzes, and the literature review due at the end of the semester. Although it is a "semester long" assignment, not much guidance is given until the end so it is tough to start it until two weeks before it is due. Overall is a solid prof.
She is a super great professor. She is a kind and sweet person in general, but her lectures are informative and the exams aren't built to blindside you. She has review sessions before the exams that are incredibly helpful, and is easy to contact. It's not easy being a professor right now during covid but she did a great job!
The hardest grader I have ever had. Really wonderful, knowledgeable person, but the expectations are so high I felt like in order to get at least a B, I had to have a degree in research studies. Feedback is always vague and confusing, and when asking for clarification she tends to be a bit offended.
The hardest grader... test essay questions? Forget about it. Good luck chuck.
Professor Shupe is an absolute gem and is the best to take capstone with. We read a lot of literature, but all of it is useful to our field and connected to each other. Our group discussions were very interesting and I always look forward to coming to class. Participation and attendance is kind of important though to get the most out of it.
Dry material, straight up lectures and very wordy when explaining concepts. Tough grader for papers with hard to read feedback. Respectable professor though and very understanding. Gave us flexibility this semester and ability to retake an exam at the end.
Prof Shupe is very nice, yet she is a very tough grader. For this class if you do not study for her tests and do the study guides you will not pass. her lectures are so bland. Had to teach myself pretty much. I would not take this prof if you don't want to teach yourself the material.
Prof is so understanding and genuinely cares about the content and how well her students understand it. I would've loved to take more classes with her! Lots of reading but it is all very helpful to understand the materials. There's one group project, a quiz at least once a week, and reflections weekly. It's easy as long as you do the work!
I have never had to write so much for a class in my life. There are 2 to 8 pages due per week depending on the schedule. She is very kind, but a tough grader and it feels like you don't get a break. Currently regretting taking my capstone my last semester because the papers are miserable. Discussion is good, but you have to journal every class.
She's a really nice person, but there's almost no homework so if you're a bad tester/do badly on her tests and quizzes you pretty much fail. I dropped the class after I realized it's majority reading and testing because it was stressful, and sometimes she can be really set in her ways and not open to change in the classroom
I enjoyed her class. Her lectures can sometimes be boring, but she uses a lot of real-world examples to help you understand the material. TAKE GOOD NOTES! She doesn't give much review for exams and there's a lot of material you have to know for them. Just make sure to seriously study for her exams and you'll be fine. I recommend her!
I had her for 300 & she was the worst. She'll explain something in a vague way & expect you to understand. so much reading & a very tough grader. For our final paper, she gave no one good feedback & just got an attitude with us &made people upset but she wasn't teaching us so what does she expect. do not recommend
If you are a bad test-taker forget about taking Shupe, she has 5 things in the grade book right now and the grading on the tests is terrible. She is not clear at all on what the material is and gives no feedback. Very rude and do not recommend.
I really liked Dr. Shupe, however, she was test heavy and they were hard tests. She was very picky about the essay questions. She is very caring and I appreciated how much she cared about the topics and her students. She was flexible, I had to miss an exam once and she allowed me to retake it.
I highly recommend taking Dr. Shupe for capstone! She is a very caring professor and I thought that the class content was interesting. The workload was never too much - I could tell that she was careful not to overload her students. We did a mix of papers based on readings and self narratives. She gives excellent feedback on papers.
The sweetest professor, cannot recommend her enough. She genuinely cares about her students and is very accommodating. Workload was very respectable considering it is a capstone class. Reading and writing intensive, but again she is very understanding that things happen and willing to help if needed. Overall just the best.
I cannot recommend her enough, take her classes! Capstone was very easygoing and when we were too stressed, she removed assignments. Doing the group project with students in another country was also a very fun and rewarding experience! She's so sweet and caring, I'd take any class she teaches.
Professor Shupe is a caring instructor who makes the capstone experience engaging. The workload is manageable with helpful feedback. Using unstuck AI alongside the readings helped me prepare effectively for the weekly assignments.
The course code isn't correct here as I had her for the Northern Ireland study abroad. Cannot recommend Ellen Shupe highly enough, as her study abroad program is easily one of the greatest memories I will ever have in my life, and she is very responsible for that. The entire trip was beautifully run, and she cared so much for every student.
By far the best professor I have had. With social psychology, this class offers many great opportunities. She is very flexible, understanding, and her lectures are beyond useful. She loves what she does and it shows. I recommend taking social psychology with Professor Shupe!
Professor Shupe was great. She was always very kind and always gave extra help or suggestions when needed. There was a lot of reading but the quizzes were all open note and not too difficult. There was one major group project and no exam just a final integrative paper. She was genuinely interested in us as students and encouraged communication.
