the class averages for two tests were a 45% and a 37%...this teacher is the worst. he laughs at students when they ask for help, he explains things in technical terms before the tests and then after in laymans terms. DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH!!!!!!
He's a good guy that knows a lot. Funny too. You can't expect an easy A; he will challenge you. Pay attention to get an A. Slack and you won't do so well. Students looking for an easy A shouldn't take him.
Horrible. He taught everything like it was a review even though it was a 101 course. He clarified nothing and was zero help when approached during office hours as well.
He was a good teacher, unclear at times. Taught class as a review session most of the time. Went way to fast!
Dropped after the first day. Laughed at a girl who left the class early. Seemed arrogant and unhelpful towards the class. Didn't feel feel like putting up with him and the class for a semester. Wouldn't recommend...take Pingle, Metts, or Dobra.
Very touch class, very tough instructor, but I have learned a lot in it. He gives a review session before each exam, which always helps to prepare. His curve is very generous, and if you ask for help, you get it.
Yes, he has a generous curve but that is to offset the incredible difficulty of his class. He has very high expectations of his students and is impatient when the class isn't getting what he is trying to explain. He wants his students to work hard but ends up making them not care.
The International trade class is one of the best classes I have taken. Parker is not the easiest teacher by any means so dont take his class looking for an easy time. If you want to learn some really interesting things, take him. Be prepared to work at his classes but expect alot out of them. He is easy to approach out of class.
He's freakin' cool as hell.
Maybe a little nerdy, but a good guy and a good porfessor. Cares about his students and their education.
He is the best professor I've ever had! I've gone to 3 universities and he was at the first one. I haven't been in NV since 1998 and he and I still keep in contact. All you've got to do is work and show him your working hard and BOOM you do well!
I received an A but only after teaching myself as his lectures were useless but unfortunately required.
He's not an "easy A" but you will learn. Difficult yet effective. Very passionate about the subject matter esp. with China economics. He's a good teacher; one of the best I've had. My advice is be prepared prior to his lectures to answer study questions in class.
Class lectures went pretty fast, but the outside group work was a killer. Managed a B in the class. He is willing to hear you out when you have issues outside of class, but the class is still very fast pace. You do learn alot.

Arguably, the toughest professor and class in the college of business. But if you work hard, it will pay off. He is a great professor, but the material is extremely difficult
parker is kinda monotone and has pretty bad jokes but hes a good teacher he has decent examples and i've heard hes much better than the rest id take another class from him definetly
he is really hard! do not take his class
Really good teacher but hard
Hard, come to class, take lots of notes on his lectures. Tests based mainly on lectures and what he talks about in class. He'll throw in a curveball "book" question now and again. He flatters himeself with his inellect. Talk to him if you havea problem he is fair and reasonable.
By far my favorite class. However I found his exams easy, others did not.
I thought his tests were hard, but I still easily past the course. I went to every class, but didn't take notes and did the HW, which was optional to replace your lowest test score, and did all the extra credit and past with a B+ you be the judge if thats good for you. There are better econ classes, but Parker isn't bad.
Parker is an amazing professor who is passionate about the subject. He is always willing to help;I practically saw him twice a week in his office and he was always available and helpful. I've already taken 2 of his classes and I'll be taking a 3rd in the fall. I would highly recommend him if you want to learn about economics to its fullest.
Good Professor. Hard class, hard homework(supplemental problems); hard quizes and tests; however a big curve based on previous semester test results. Overall the best professor for this class. If you keep up with the homework and somewhat know what he is talking about, you will pass the class with a B.
Avoid this teacher if you can. Extremely hard. Lectures are practically useless because he blows through each class like it's a review session. Seems to have forgotten that all us students haven't been teaching this subject for decades. Then doesn't allow note sheets for tests, which is ridiculous for such a difficult, confusing subject.
Great class. Parker teaches hard material but grades easy. Show interest, apply yourself, and go to class. You'll walk away with no worse than a B even if you don't score well.
I am a Dean's List student with a 3.6 GPA (and a 4.0 in Economics at UNR). This is the hardest class I've ever taken. He does not prepare you adequately for quizzes or tests. You have been warned.
Intensely difficult, Extremely interesting macro-economics! If you truly love economics, money markets, international trade, etc., this is the professor to take. Just go to class, do the HW, and study for tests.
His tests are ulcer-inducing, but you will learn a lot. If you're an economics major, you probably want to take some classes with Parker because he is smart. He talks fast, so recording lectures might help. Quizzes and tests are curved and graded on a 4.0 scale. Answers questions outside of class (office hours), but slow to respond to emails.
Parker responded quickly to my emails and offered some help through SI Sessions and extra office hours. He is really fair. However, I did not really feel he did a great job with the information he covered because I had an extremely difficult time with the homework and tests. I had a 3.9GPA before this class and I really struggled through the course.
Dr. Parker is super smart but wouldn't recommend his class. He goes to fast during lectures, flies through the slides, and has tests that are unbelievably hard. The class average was around 40% for one of the exams, bottom line is that means the material is not being presented very well. I didn't feel i was set up for success in this class at all.
Do not take Elliot Parker for 102. He is smart and knows what he is talking about but clearly horrible at explaining any of it to his students. Tests are ridiculous. Homework is full of errors so you never know what is actually right. The only reason I got a C was because his grading scale makes a 10% a D. Avoid at all costs.
It is not the end of the world if you take him. I had no interest in the subject, I never studied, failed all hw assigments. I still got a C, you can pass the class if you put any effort what so ever. He is a really smart man, he just goes through the lectures so quickly with so much info, it is impossible to learn a lot in his class Curve=Miracle
Dr. Parker is a brilliant man, it's obvious he is too smart to teach college economics; but I was lucky to have him. If you want an A, you have to bust your butt for it. His class is hard, but it is rewarding and you'll learn a TON. He enjoys challenging you so succeeding in his class is even more rewarding.
This class is extremely difficult. However, he's very fair and grades on a really high curve. Be prepared for group work-EVERY WEEK. The one major drawback from this course is the amount of time you have to set aside for it. It is really interesting and he's super helpful if you ask questions and GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!
Goes through the slides so fast. The online homework doesn't have any helpful hints. He's a nice guy, but his students struggle.
Elliot is no joke. You will not get anywhere if you dont attend his class. With that being said he is very smart and personally have learned a lot from him, in my opinion he kept the discussions interesting and on topic. If you aren't afraid of doing work and actually want to learn economics take Elliot.
Dr. Parker is a genius. He is super smart but not cocky. His expertise is in Asian economies. His tests and papers are extremely hard. 2 papers, one is 10 pages, one is 20. 3 exams consisting of true/false, multiple choice, and short answer. His humor is weird. A tough class, but makes you think.
Awesome lecturer! I class was super early so I almost never went. He puts his Powerpoints and prevous tests on his website. Pretty easy except the bigger paper. Got a C but i never went to class.
Do NOT take Parker. His workload is outrageous. He curves tests but dont be mistaken, they require a ton of studying for a decent grade. You learn a lot from him but he is way to smart and at times hard to understand due to his intelligence.
This class was interesting and easy. It is better to go to class than to do the homework. You can skip one or the other and going to class and answering questions is easier than doing the homework. He cares about his class and his students. Just don't complain to his chairman, he is his chairman.
Parker is a brilliant man and teaches you like you want to learn the material. He is very demanding and expects you to work hard in his class. If you want an easy Econ elective not the class for you. Overall one of the best classes I took at UNR and I plan on taking Econ 461 with him this summer.
This class can be very difficult if you do not attend class or pay attention. He is very serious about the subject. The homework and tests are hard, but he will drop your lowest grades.
Dr. Parker has slowly become my favorite professor. While a challenging course, his clear level of intelligence and slides demonstrate a mastery of his subject, as well as a deep passion for it. He is unafraid to tackle often uncomfortable realities, such as race and gender-based discrimination while still remaining unbiased.
Professor Parker knows his stuff, and his lectures are interesting. He explains the material in a way that's easy to understand. That said, the exams are challenging. I had to work hard for an A-.
Prof. Parker knows his material and is very engaged. Sometimes he moves very quickly through lectures so if you don't know by now to read ahead watch out! Overall great course great Prof. If you want to do well read, go to class and don't opt out of anything that can give you points.
Professor Parker is without a doubt the most challenging instructor I've taken classes from (I am a senior). However, he actually teaches the subject rather than teaching the test like so many. If you are actually interested in the subject and want to learn, take his class. If you're just looking for an easy class, he is not the person for you
I disliked Mr. Parker very much. His lectures are long with a lot of information that he speeds through. He isn't very respectful towards students. He cuts students off when they are asking questions or commenting. If you love to write 5,000-6,000 word papers, take him.
Professor Parker races through lectures with unclear power points and obscure examples. Gives very confusing answers to questions. He makes students use clickers for in-lecture questions for credit, but never gives you enough time to answer them. Homework usually alternates between being very easy or very hard. Tests are hard, but curved.
Professor Parker is by far one of the hardest professors I have ever taken. He is very fast with his lectures and won't slow down for anyone. He posts the lecture slides online which helps, and he is very passionate about the subject. The tests are really hard, but curved. Expect a lot of work. I wouldn't take him again
Elliot Parker is passionate about what he teaches, but gives very difficult tests. He grades on a 4 point scale which helps a little, but it is almost impossible to get an A. He does huge curves but I do not suggest him for this class.
Rough! You wont learn much and will probably be behind the whole semester but he does curve the exams. He flies through the slides of graphs and formulas in his lectures that you are expected to learn. Tests are not easy by any stretch of the imagination. If you like Econ(haha) then you will be ok, if not, prepare for a long boring semester.
Parker is extremely knowledgeable over the material he teaches. A lot of times he would come up with a real life story to use as an example during lectures. Every class there are clicker quizzes, in which you get a C just for answering, and an A for answering correctly. The tests are very hard and usually have a large curve. I would take him again.
He tries to teach the class at a 400 level. Test are hard but they are curved. He goes way too fast on his power pionts and expects everyone to understand. Be prepared for a TON of Homework!!!
Clickers are used and count towards your grade, and basically force you to go to class. Homework is online and can be confusing at times. Test are a train wreck and will leave you scratching your head. Curve is massive though. A 53% on a test is a B-. While the test are hard, if you pay the slightest bit of attention and you can get a B.
He doesn't understand that it's not a 400 level class. I passed but can honestly I did not learn a thing. He is very full of himself and will send you constant emails about his work as if they are tweets. Avoid taking this class from him if possible. Also, a clicker is mandatory due to the class size and be prepared for a lot of homework!
He's a brilliant man, but cannot articulate anything to his students. He doesn't understand that not everyone is an Econ major. This was a combination class with graduate students as well. Very difficult, but at least he curves a TON (so that his entire class won't fail).
After reading all the horrible reviews this semester I was reluctant to take Parker. Let me tell you now the course it is not that bad! You can definitely get an A if you put in some effort. Three tests that and two papers... that's it. He is a really good prof. and you will learn a ton if you take his classes. Don't wuss out, you'll be fine!
Don't take Parker if Econ is your worst subject, you will have a hard time understanding the huge and confusing amount of material. Almost everything went right over my head, and tests require a lot of studying for an ok grade. Long research papers (10pgs & 20pgs), difficult tests, cumulative final. He should stick to teaching graduate classes.
Professor Parker is a really smart man, but when it comes to teaching his students he treats them as Econ majors. I had just come out of 103 and straight into this class and it was nearly impossible to pass any of his quizzes. His grading scale is a joke and is the only reason I passed
I'm taking this class spring semester and we don't have to write any papers. Reading the book helps me out more than the lecture because he sort of over explains things. Clickers are very important for points and doing your homework is very important. Honestly the tests are hard so you really need to put time and effort into this class
Would not take this class unless you have a very good understanding of Econ. He seems to know what he's talking about but everything he says goes way over most of the classes head and he gets very frustrated by that. Attendance is mandatory for clicker scores, there is at least one homework a week that is semi difficult, and the test are difficult.
HE IS THE WORST TEACHER I have had at UNR. The online homework assigned through MyEcon Lab does not align with the lecture material. He quizzed us the second week on material from Chapters 5 and 6 when the homework for Chapter 2 was not even due yet. Extremely fast lecturer and short, rude and abrupt. I dropped the class.
This professor is by far the worst one I have had so far. He taught his 101 level class like it was a 400+ level class. He flew through lectures and wouldn't go back when students asked him to. He assumed that we all knew what he was talking about and tests were difficult! I do not recommended taking a course taught by him!
Avoid if possible. He flies through lectures and never does simple examples- he instead skips to the hard stuff before you even know the basics. He's arrogant and not helpful. He uses a 4 point grading scale where a 2.0 (50%) is a B and so on, so you'll end up passing the class feeling like you know nothing. The HW is not at all relevant to tests.
Parker was a good professor. The class is hard, but his grading scale does help even if you feel like you don't know what you are doing because you will get credit on quizzes and exams. He really does pull in real life issues and is very knowledgeable about the subject which made the class interesting.
Profesor Parker is very knowledgeable, he really knows what he talks about, however, when it comes to teaching he is the worst. Heavy lecture, goes super fast with the slides and gets mad when asked to go back. Attitude, very arrogant. He forgot he was teaching a 100 level class, NOT a 400 level course. Stay away if you can!
Prof. Parker is probably the best lecturer i've had in the College of Business. The exams are difficult, and he makes you work for a good grade, but you'll walk away with a sense of "wow I actually learned a ton". He has tons of life experience in economics and can answer literally ever question we sent his way.
HILARIOUS and keeps lectures interesting.
Elliot Parker is probably the worst professor at UNR! This class is beyond the 300 level. Slides are not online and there's no study guide for the VERY difficult tests. He expects TOO much. Attendance is required through the use of turning point yet you get 2 free absences. I'd say AVOID AT ALL COSTS, but unfortunately, he is the only on for 305...
First thing first, he tests are extremely hardcore! BUT, he curves, and he grades fairly easy on u as long as u don't leave it blank. Although ppt are not posted online, but all you need to do is to read the online txtbook that he wrote. Be sure to charge your phone, cuz u gonna use app to answer questions as well as attendance. Do NOT skip class.
Lecture heavy participation credits with most time in class spent on other hw
Dr. Parker is one of the best professors I have had. His class is difficult, but he knows that, which is why he has a very generous grading scale. He makes his lectures applicable to real life. Don't understand something, ask a question or go into his office hours. He is great and cares about his students' success.
This professor not only does a good job of covering the material for our introductory microeconomics course, but he also connects the material to real life. Taking his class greatly got me interested in economics and I ended up choosing to minor in this subject. Really wish I could take another one of his classes.
Professor Parker is truly one of the most passionate professors at UNR. His class is challenging but he uses a different grading scale and it is fair. If you would like to learn and would like a challenge I recommend taking econ 305 or one of his other courses.
This was one of the better upper-division classes I have taken. There are weekly readings and questions to do that are easy as well as a quiz based on the book. He wrote the book so the answers are not online, however, the first 2 tests are open note. There are two papers, somewhat hard. He is pretty funny and makes the class engaging. I recommend!
Parker is an awesome professor with a good sense of humor and a passion for what he teaches. I am Economics major and I found this to be an absolute bore of a class, but I enjoyed attending his lectures. If you don't read the textbook, take notes, and be diligent with your papers you will struggle to pass.
Professor Parker's classes are very tough. You'll need grit. He is an expert in the economics field and likes sharing his enthusiasm with his students. There are weekly quizzes, two midterms, one proctored final, and two large, time-consuming papers. The tests are hard and no curves on any. Do the work, put the time in, and you'll pass.
Professor Parker does not communicate clearly to his students. There were many times in the class when my grade suffered because of this. Do not recommend.
I write this as my first ever rate my professor, sitting here in shock after finishing a 92 question international trade exam that I was only given 90 minutes for. Less than a minute a question, no notes allowed, and 5 free-response essay questions. are you kidding me! that was the hardest exam I have ever taken in college, and im currenly a senior
(Summer Zoom Online) I LOVE Parker's class. Class tends to be heavy reading, as I took in a summer mini-session, it was like 10x harder than a normal semester. Reading schedule and work could be tense, but every second count and every second is worth it. He's really caring and inspirational, even for me as a person who don't like to read at all >v<
Terrible. Fast paced with a large amount of information. What made the class bad was how arrogant Parker was. He was also quite condescending to students on occasion. Being the only ECON305 option there is no choice but to suffer through this miserable class.
Parker is a pretty good professor. He's very smart and sort of entertaining. You either need to show up everyday or you need to be ready to do a lot of reading because he just lectures from his book. The homework is book questions, quizzes, and discussions each week. There is one research paper. The tests are hard, so you'll have to study hard.
Took both 305 and 463, he's awesome. He doesn't teach 463 that often, but this could be a future reference. 2 non-cumulative exams, regular HW, group HW, and quiz HW. If you ever taken AP World History or his 305 class, 463 would be similar except for brought to a global macro money level. Do not afraid to ask, he's very supportive and caring ^_^.
P. Parker doesn't explain the material if at all, he basically gives you an assignment and then gives vague feedback. He posts practice tests before midterms but doesn't post the answers; he thinks they help but leave you lost and clueless. Ask for help and you will just get told to read the textbook.
I enjoyed this class overall. Weekly online quizzes and HW (easy) , 2 papers (medium) and 3 Exams(difficult). Grading scale makes it easier to get desired grade. Parker is knowledgeable, helpful and lectures are interesting. Daily clicker questions so come to class!
Dr. Parker really knows his stuff, unfortunately, he forgets that we don't. Lectures are very fast moving and he doesn't explain the clicker questions very well. Chapter homework and quizzes are frequently due before he finishes lecture on the material. Overall, he's a pretty nice person, but not a great teacher.
Professor Parker is honestly a really nice guy, but his lectures move extremely fast and oftentimes left me more confused than anything by the end. There is quite a bit of homework due every night after class (I would say I spend about 2 hours on average per night on it). Tests cover a large amount of material and are quite difficult.
Had a horrible time in Parker's class, every lecture he would have something condescending to say to the class and some random story about his ex wife. I would avoid this class at all costs if you want to maintain a good mental health status. He wrote the book, requires the book for class, only lectures on the book, and the book is written terribly
Elliot parker is a teacher that suffers from having too much knowledge. He does not teach basic economics, he speaks as if we have known economics and its terms for 10+ years. Class time is his quickly rambling on about the notes, but the homework is a lot of formulas, math and wordage. He is a smart man but not a great course teacher. Good luck.
In his lectures does a terrible job explaining that material in cohesive ways for students who do not know economics. This is a required introductory course for many majors and yet he teaches the material like we are all economic majors. I seriously despise his teaching. Simply if you have a busy semester just drop this class. Very time consuming.
hard and alot of work. I'll explain my week for context. Tuesday/ Thursday classes. Start lecture on Tuesday there is 5 assignments due on Thursday and a group homework assignment that is expected to be worked out outside of class with your group. group homework will be about the chapter we are learning in class. It is alot to do in a week.
I took Econ 462 and 305 with him. Both classes were pretty hard but he does a good job at explaining them. If you pay attention to both of his lectures you should do alright. However, exams were very hard (70% class average or less) and there is a lot of homework in both of the classes.
Professor Parker is incredibility knowledgeable and did a great job explaining the history of much the world from an economic perspective. Part of your grade will be TopHat attendance. What he talks about in lectures will be what is on the exams. He expects you to read his book. Expect to spend some time on the four data comparison assignments.
I took this course for mini session. The course layout was overwhelming and not practical. First midterm at the end of first week was 75 questions + an essay and we were given 60 min to complete it. I had an economist review the 1st paper assignment and was informed that it was way more than would normally be assigned for a class.
Do not expect to learn anything during the lectures. He is definitely passionate about economics but he lectures like you are a fellow economist. You will be better off showing up the class for the required attendance (your grade will tank if you don't show up), then learning the content on your own. You will have up to 6 assignments a week.
If you have this professor, immediately drop the class. He is very smart when it comes to economics but doesn't teach whatsoever. He does not explain his lectures in a way that students understand and reads straight from the textbook. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Smart guy, terrible teacher. Dude teaches like everyone understands economics already and is terrible at explaining in simplistic ways. Grading is harsh with several attendance questions every class and up to 6 hw assignments a week. Testing is hard 60-70 multiple choice questions and a few graphs you have to sketch out. Never take this professor.
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR He rushes through 15-20 slides per class and randomly calls on people to answer them, and makes fun of you if you don't get it right. He assigns six assignments per week, each of which easily takes 30-45 minutes if you don't use Google or AI to find answers. He goes off topic, talking about his wife and son.
Dr. Elliot is a nice person, but he isn't good at teaching. He is very knowledgeable. He doesn't realize that were students learning the curriculum instead he just talks right off the PowerPoint as if we know what he's talking about. Top Hat questions are hard and worth points. His exams are hard, and this class was VERY time consuming.
Worst class I've ever taken. Lectures turn into endless, off-topic stories while the actual content barely gets explained in a way that students can understand. Expect nine long assignments a week that teach you nothing. Exam keys are not helpful. I left feeling like a taught myself everything.
This class is awful. Attendance is mandatory, and you learn absolutely nothing. All he does is read off the PowerPoint and never actually teach the material. There's an excessive amount of homework, and none of it relates to what he's teaching. Take this class only if you want to hate yourself at the end of the semester.
The professor is ok, it's obvious that he's very knowledgeable. The worst thing about this class is the Top hat questions and the textbook. Honestly, you won't learn all of the material based on just his lectures, you're gonna wanna read the textbook as well. If you put in the time, you'll get a good grade. Look at the past tests he gives.
As a person he is very nice and wants to get to know his students more, however his class is definitely not fun nor easy. Expect 7 top hat attendance questions every lecture, 6-9 homework every week that take 30 min each, and death by PowerPoint. Saving grace is his grading is probably the best and drops grades if none are missing.
Professor Parker's class was honestly easy but the homework does takes some time to complete. He is a very forgiving professor that curves everything and he even drops some quiz scores. He is a very nice guy that cares about his students. If you are a econ person or not you shouldn't have a problem succeeding in the class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! A LOT of homework, required attendance, and difficult to pass, considering his grading criteria. He is passionate about economics, but cannot teach well. He drops a midterm and curve tests, but the lectures drag, and the daily homework makes it impossible to pass. The class average at the end of the semester was a D!!!
He assigns a LOT and I mean A LOT of homework. There was around 6 homework assignments every week but besides that he has amazing lectures that are required through tophat questions.
