He is one of the greatest teachers,that I have ever had, he teaches English in an easy and functional way with his own special tricks.Because of his cheerful atitiude you never get board in his class.

Take his class and u'll have fun. I really like his class. But to be honest, I didn't learn a thing in class. No reading, no quiz, no response... just essay and final. Take him and u'll know!

cool cat, he likes to talk. if you want a good grade you should talk in his class otherwise you'll be doomed. essays were straight forward no hidden work load + he always worked with the students on the due date. don't get up in the middle of class and leave, he likes to play jokes on dessertes. be on time, get to all the classes and talk = A

He is a very cool teacher. You do have to put in the time to write effective papers. Just ask him for feedback if you have any questions as he is there to help. We did have a lot of group discussions that were off topic, but I'd rather do that then talk about literature. I think many people in this class are walking away with something valuable

Great Teacher! His ideas on the literature were fairly thought provoking, and if you disagree, HE WILL ARGUE, and probably mock you forever. Still had a good time in class and really enjoyed the novel.

My first time in school in over 7 years. One of the best teacher I ever had. Very understand and freaking funny. It was night class and 3 hours long, but went by very fast. Cool dude, I like the guy. Great understand teacher, who's not a ****head.

He gets pissed off every time he reads a really bad essays. I recommend you to take him only if you're going to work hard and keep up with the class. Otherwise, don't even bother.

I LOVE this guy! He is SO intelligent and knows about SO many different. Talking to him is invigorating. His class is SO much fun and absolutely hilarious! And he CARES. He's really sarcastic and playfully picks on people, but he's really nice and easy to talk to, and he's stay after and talk to you about whatever. Cragen = AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

Finally a teacher who relates the real world to literary concepts. He loves shock value and Ive got to admit is slightly intimidating but refreshing. He puts a twist to "critical thinking' and although its not on a essay or novel, hes pushing you to think beyond surface. ESl students may be kind of screwed though, so good luck. GREAT TEACHER!

I think he's a great teacher. If you have a problem, you'll have to go to him directly. Don't brag and say that he's a bad teacher just because you're a lazy bum. He has a LIFE too. Overall, he's an excellent and flexible teacher. You DEFINITELY need to be in class and do all the work if you want to get a good grade.

Mr. Cregan is an awesome teacher. he has strict requirements but dont let that get to you. He is always willing to help. You should easily be able to get at minimum a B

OMG he's a MUST take Prof to all of you. he is always willing to help all students(if you ar really into study).Will answer any of your questiones on study(except the answers for exam). I had Mr. Cragen for fall semester 08'. I learned alot from him. He is a great guy, and down right hilarious, making the class laugh every minute. I highly recommend him!

I would highly recommend Mr. Cragen. Just remember to do your homework. He really wants his students to lean and gets mad people don't do their homework. He once canceled the class because of this, another time he kicked everyone out who didn?t do the homework and gave the rest extra credit. Just a tip.

Mr. Cragen is a nice person. He is understanding and very helpful with your writing skills. He may seem strict at first but if he sees that you are doing your best and trying hard to earn a good grade, then he'll be easy on you. He's funny and very sarcasm. His grading is strict and pay attention to MLA format. Just do the work and you're good. =]

Best teacher ever in Ohlone. I took him in 101B Fall 2009.English being my second language I thought I would have a hard time but he helped me so much .A very understanding teacher, outgoing and very smart guy. If you want to succeed academically and in life skills just take this teacher. What to do: be on time do assigned h/wk and participate.

Mr. Cragen is a great teacher and nice teacher. You will have fun in class, a very interesting, social and friendly teacher. Just be on time, follow his instructions you will have a good time. Once you take this class you will be a better writer, and better thinker. No doubts sing up his class and if you can waitlist do it now is the time.

If you actually want to learn stuff In college, take his class. If you want something easy sure go to someone else, but this was the best class I ever took. Id take him again. Trust me, hes a cool teacher if you get to know him.

He's a brilliant man and really inspiring. As everyone else said, if you want to learn (not just boring school stuff, but stuff you should know in life) take this class. Cragen is my favorite teacher. He seems so hard in class but he does that for a good reason. if u go to class every day and do all the work he aks for it. u will enjoy learning his class.. awesome guy, very friendly and helpful teacher.

Professor Cragen doesn't sugar coat his words, so he may seem harsh, but he's not. If you ever need help, he makes the time to work with you and he really tries to help you understand a concept, or fix a not-so-great essay. I enjoyed his lectures because they got me to think, so if you like seeing things from a different angle, take his class.

101C - '08. His class changed my life! He taught me to challenge & ask questions & not accept things at face value. His lectures were enthralling & hilarious. I learned SO MUCH about writing & the world & life. He's so caring & SO passionate. Honestly, if I were 20+ years older, I would totally try to date him (dreamy smile & eyes, great laugh)! XD

Took Mr. Cragen for 101B and 151A. He is one of the funnest professors at Ohlone! I don't regret taking him one bit.He is so funny and makes the class interesting. He may appear to be insensitive, but deep down he really cares. Oh,don't be late he'll put you on the spot,lol. The book we read in 1B and our discussions were interesting.Tough Grader!

I took Mr. Cragen because of the good reviews and they were not wrong at all. If you go to the class, he is a fun person to listen to. Grades fairly, although some might think he is harsh but not really. He knows how to make you improve with essays. I liked his sense of humor and well, he is a pretty cool guy. Take his class!!

Super easy class!!! Almost everyone can get an A as long as you participate that wonderful extra credits.

He is really flexible. As long as you make sense to him, he won't give you low grade. Fun class as well.

Cragen is funny and clear on what he's assigning. He's as sarcastic as they get, but he grows on you. When grading papers, he literally writes on it what he wants you to change. If you follow his exact critiques, you'll get that A. He's really nice and devotes a lot of his time to helping his students. Take him!

Very helpful and clear about assignment. He gives you a chance to rewrite one essay. They are not very difficult but it is an English class so if it's not your first language I can see how you might have some trouble with the class. There is constant analytical essays, not something you do in 101A. Different but it was very good to learn it & easy.

I took Professor Cragen a couple years ago and took all of his 101 classes A-C. He is definitely the best English professor I have ever had. At times he can be really difficult, but he shows a true interest in his students. If you waste his time obviously he won't be showing a lot of effort towards you, but be proactive. I Aced his class 3 times

I took him during the summer and it was a little difficult. He crammed a lot of assignments within a month. However, he was a great professor and I encourage other students to take him if they want to improve their writing.

He uses Textbook, unlike others on some agenda. When he check your work, you get a helpful feed back that makes you yes, your time spent on the homework is worth it. In short, you actually learn something from his class. I recommend you take any class Cragen teaches if you need such a class. He is a role model!

Amazing professor. Very clear, speaks ASL, and always willing to help you learn. I learned more from this professor than any of my other English classes. The book is used a lot but it is interesting and fun. Take advantage of his help and extra credit he gives. His lectures are kept interesting. I highly recommend for any level English learner.

Funny, Hilarious, and also provides fun logic puzzles during class. Assignments aren't that difficult and essays are fairly easy. Gives extra credit assignments like a field trip too. Take him!

Very respectful and very helpful when you are stuck with assignments from the class. His essays are not difficult and he even offers an extra credit field trip assignment to a library where you do research for your third paper. How cool can that be? Professor Cragen is hilarious and one of the most energetic professors I had. Take him!

Really a good human being. I cannot stress this enough - he is genuinely a good person. I got an A even though I received straight B's for the essays all the way through the course. My friend who received B's and C's also got an A. Be sure to attend the extra credit opportunity. Don't be rude/disrespectful in any way. He's an engaging professor.

I took him in the summer last year and he was extremely reasonable. He is very entertaining and funny. He keeps the class interesting and cracks jokes which is a nice change of pace from all the other boring professors who just strictly lecture.

I've always disliked having to go to English class until I took this class. Seriously, Cragen is the best professor you could take. He somehow keeps the class interesting all while learning the material. Course objectives were straight forward, although challenging at times. He is very helpful. Cragen's a good professor. I had him for Eng 101A and throughout the semester I gotta say it was really tough. I hated using the Ohlone database but I guess that's inevitable so be prepared. He's smart, funny, and knows his stuff. A little intimidating, but when you ask him for help he's really nice. You gotta work hard in his class for an A.

Prof. Cragen is truly amazing! He is a tough grader but gives you feedback on how to improve on your next graded assignment. There is homework and reading every week but its fairy manageable. I took his class while working full time and I was able to handle the work load. He has an interesting sense of humor but it makes for an interesting class

He claims that he's a merciless essay grader, but his criticism only makes us better writers! You only write three papers throughout the entire course (no in-class essay). Not only does he make college English bearable, he's also super hysterical. He's the kind of guy that drops F bombs left and right lol. Really wish I could have him for 101C

Cragen loves to read. He is a kind person. I was lucky enough to take his 3 hour, once a week class.

I recommend taking Cragen's English classes! He is easy to talk to and a very sweet person. I loved his choice of poetry including W. H. Auden's "Funeral Blues" and the only hard part was doing the 6-page compare and contrast essay about two characters of your choice when it comes to Shakespeare. Still, you'll be smart to take his class!

Professor Cragen is great. He is a bit tough w/ grading but gives quizzes and homework that are easy grade boosters. He is clear with his expectations and cares about his students. I looked forward to going to his lectures. I got B's on all my essays but wound up with an A in the class thanks to the quizzes hw and final. Final wasnt bad at all

Professor Cragen is really nice and passionate about teaching. His lectures are hilarious and he is really funny. He is tough with the grading, but he is a really cool person who assigns interesting readings and is chill. I recommend him for any English classes, 101C is a tough class in general, but take him, you'll love it! I sure did, BEST!!!!!!

He comes off pretty strict in the beginning, but he's actually hilarious is always joking around with students. It's pretty impossible to get an A on any of the essays, but if you show effort, have good attendance, and turn in all your work, then you can still get an A in the class. Be sure to attend the extra credit field trip!

I took his 101C class and it was so much fun, very engaging with his lectures and overall a great guy and class. Come to class prepared to listen to his lectures, complete the minimal amount of assigned HW, do well on the essays, and you should be good. He is a wonderful professor, very caring and well respected. The class itself is not hard, he is a great lecturer, you will learn a lot, but it is work heavy. Don't think you will pass the class without doing all the required work, there is a lot of writing and a lab that takes up time. Attendance is must to earn that A grade, and be prepared!!!!!!

Solid teacher, with solid teaching skills. You can tell he has been teaching for a long time, his lectures are really clear and engaging. You can tell he cares for each and every one of his students, it shows in the way he engages with them. The material presented is not hard, it is more fundamentals of writing. Come to class ready to learn.

This class was a breeze, he is very friendly and caring. Most of all, you will learn so much through his class, the way he teaches makes you understand the material and will help you become a better writer. You will come to love him as a professor, he is very funny and overall a good teacher to take for your English classes. I recommend him a lot.

It was a basics skills course, and it wasn't bad at all. If you are looking for an easy grader, this is the professor for you. Take his class, it is not hard at all, sure there may seem like a lot of work, but really he doesn't grade all that hard. You learn a lot as well, as he is super well informed on many different subject areas. Take him. :)

He is a fantastic professor, he has a craft for teaching English and has been doing so for many years now. He knows what he is doing and I highly recommend taking him. I took him for 101B in the summer, and it was a wonderful class. He really helps you understand how to write a college level essay. You read a lot of interesting stuff, take him.

Took Eng 101C with Prof Cragen during the summer and it was a pretty chill class. He is funny, constantly talks about his personal life and politics. Easy A as long as you do work. Extra credit for going to the field trip.

Seems really unapproachable at first, but he's nice and actually cares that you do well in class! He makes it clear on what he expects you to know. His papers can seem like a lot, especially the final one, but they're just copy and pastes of one another. Most of his lectures are philosophical or about life, he's super chill overall.

Dr Cragen's lectures sometimes go way off topic but he is a great professor. I got a B in 101A so I was afraid of not getting an A but his grading criteria is very clear. He explained how to write essays very clearly and I did exactly what he said. Just make sure to take good notes because he likes to be very specific on quizzes.
