I can see the waves man.... whoa!!!!
Think Regis Philbin teaching math.
Loves his job, and it comes through in his teaching
Incredibly enthusiastic. The most organized man i think i've ever come across
fourier, laplace, bessel.... all chumps compared to Dr.J
He'll give you more math than you can handle without even breaking a sweat.

ridiculously smart and totally organized. teaches very effectively.
Greatest Math Prof EVAR, he makes PDEs FUN!
Outstanding Math Professor
He made this C programming fun! Fun programs, well-paced semester.
Think Bill Nye the Science Guy For Math.
Awesome teacher, knows his stuff and can help you with anything. A definite teacher of the year.

Outstanding teaching ablitiy, if you fail (like me) its probably your own fault. Very enthusiastic, and should probably switch to decaf.
Best teacher on campus by far! He is very enthusiastic, thorough, and he gets in your head. I was doing calculus without thinking because of him. Outstanding!
Great Teacher. I wish everybody was like him.
Very helpful, enthusiastic about the subject, relates calc to real life situations, very clear and easy to understand. He almost over explains things. He sounds like Regis Philbin.
THE BEST TEACHER AT ERAU! He is amazing at Calculus. I have never met a teacher more willing to help students. Highly recommended!!!
A complete and utter asset to the Embry-Riddle population. He is a professional when it comes to teaching and he should write a text book for the other pathetic professors on how to teach.
Awesome teacher. Kept my attention and taught in a way to ensure I understood the material. He loves his job and cares about his students...
best professor at ERAU.
It appears that everyone enjoys his class for the same reasons I do, I definitely recommend him to anyone taking Calc 3 next year...
Good guy, very good teacher, just dont ****him off or he gets really arrogant with you
The best math teacher I have ever had! He's so enthusiastic and he knows his stuff. You'll never need the book. He's very clear. Tests may be somewhat challenging, but I'll still have a B.
Awesome teacher! He is easy to understand and assigns relatively low amounts of homework. His lessons flow with samurai grace... they are planned out weeks ahead of time, and the examples you thought were "random" will surprise you later on.
Very Clear, Easy to understand, extremely helpful.
WOW!!! Amazing professor. Acutally knows what he is talking about and puts everyday sitations to all problems.
One of my greatest professors to date. Not only can he explain the material to make sense, but he also catches your interest by making the subject fun. I hope to have Dr. Jacobs for the remainder of my mathematics courses.
Indeed.
Very good teacher. Easy to understand and comprehend. Good teacher if you actually want to learn.
very smart man. hope to have him for the rest of my math courses. Go to class, his lectures are worth it, and he doesnt use the book, all homework comes from a packet he hands out.
He kick's butt, this guy is so willing to help during office hours, and his class is pretty easy to follow, just don't come in late and don't sleep in his class and you should do fine. Ooh and pay attention and try not to daydream or you'll get lots.
Makes a hard subject easy to follow. He makes you understand the subject very well
This is the best professor I have ever had! His teachings and mathematical elegance in eloquence will live with me until the day I die.
Great teacher...in my opinion THE best teacher at this University
Easily, the best math teacher I've ever had. He breaks down complicated ideas so anybody with average intelligence can get the material.
Nice guy. Fine teacher. The tests are pretty short, so you can't afford to make mistakes. He makes his own homework assignments, so there's no checking it from the book. I did pretty bad in the class. Mostly because I don't understand calculus in general. I wouldn't take him again, but if it comes naturally to you, you won't have problems.
Good examples, very enthusiastic. It's cool cause he gets you involved in the problems. Writes his own homework, so you can't check in the book, but that's alright, because the homework is challenging, but not impossible. Tests are the same way. It takes awhile, but you feel accomplished when you're done, and you learn a lot too. Great class!
Amazing teacher. Not for those wanting to get an easy A. Makes you work hard. When you get done with his class.. you will know your stuff..
One of the best math teachers I've had. Explains calculus concepts in a way that makes complete sense. You will have to study somewhat, but as long as you come to most classes, you should leave the course with a decent grade and a pretty good grasp on the math taught.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Explains things very clearly, and always ensures everyone understands before moving on. His enthusiasm is daunting at first, but amusing once you get used to it. If you pay attention in class and do the homework, you should do well.
Best teacher to walk the face of the planet...
Very loud. Brilliant teacher.
I had him for both calc II and MA 441 which he calls vector calculs. My favorite thing other than his unequivival teaching aptitude is his SARCASIM. Any1 who already had him knows what i mean. Anyways his reputation already been long established. His sections fill very fast, so dont wait too long. Good Luck.
Really good and clear! if u sit down and pay attention in class you will get an A because u will learn so much withouting having to study a lot=))) would take him again
Awesome lecturer, very well planned! People taking other professors joined our class since his lecturers were so strong. Tests were more conceptually based than number crunching (Granted, not too many numbers in this class). Very helpful during office hours. He helps you learn the material well. Strongly Recommended!
This is the best math professor I have ever had...If you do homeworks yourself its easy to get an A in his class...he is really helpfull in his office hours...
The best math professor i have ever had. His homework is jut like the examples in class, as well as the test. This makes the class much easier. Take him if possible!
Awsome teacher. He takes the time to explain each concept in great detail which means he excpects you to know it. The homeworks are like the tests so if you don't do well on those you will not do well on the test. He is excited about math and this helps get through the period. RECOMMEND!!!
Awesome professor. Applies Differential Equations to many modern examples. The first day, it seemed as if his enthusiasm was sarcasm, but no... He really loves math. I suggest taking him, you will learn the material, he is lenient and the tests are straight from the HW. You should visit his site: http://www.xecu.net/jacobs/index345.htm
Good teacher and he cares if you understand it. Hw is usually pretty easy and the tests aren't too bad if you studied. Attendance counts if your borderline for a grade.
hez awesome..i ended up wid a 101 in the final..his hwk is easy..tests r straight frm there..he is js awesome..TAKE HIM!..
The best professor at ERAU. Other pathetic professors should learn from him.
His picture should be in the dictionary under great teacher.
He is very good. He always keeps the class interested and actually helped me learn a lot. He will make you do hw tho and it can be a little difficult if you don't pay attention in class.
At the beginning his enthusiasm can be confused as sarcasm, but it?s not. He explains everything in great detail. I?m not an engineering major and I had an A final grade. Highly recommend him.
If u ever wanted to learn math with crystal clarity and absolute enthusiasm u will take him period. He will make you understand the subject like no other professor on campus. His tests aren't particularly easy but he teaches you extremely well that you will do good no matter what as long as you have done the hw. He is the prophet sent by god for MA
He is really good, the best teacher I had so far. His classes are very good and helpful. He knows his stuff.
Great prof! He makes everything very clear. Ends class early from time to time. Very organized.
One of the best if not the best math professor I have ever seen. Explains things crystal clear and is very knowledgeable about calculus. Even better then that he knows how to teach others. He can show you visually with the aid of multiple color markers etc. His personality is very helpful and emailing him is easy you can see your score report.
This is one of the best teachers i have ever had! He Is awesome and is really enthuiastic about what he teaches! This guy will prepare you for calc 3 and overall he is a happy guy. A must take!
He's a great teacher, but I just couldn't get the material. Moral of the story is that if you're doing bad on homework, you'll need help. People who do good on the homework tend to do better on the quizzes.
One of the best professors at school. Knows his subject very well, explains topics in detail. Gives his own homework not from the book. Tests cover pretty much the same examples as in the class but with some ad-dons. Easy A, take him.
Professor Jacobs is one of the best math professors at the school. When he teaches everything is very visual and easy to understand. He is very very helpful. Everything on the homework is exactly what are on his tests his grading is really simple 15% - Homework and 85 % from 3 exams and One final. I strongly suggest taking his courses.
He is the best math professor here at embry riddle this was my second course with him and he just keeps getting better! I strongly advise people to take him!
He is the best math professor in the world
THIS MANS TEACHING LEVEL IS OVER 9000!!!! I made a easy A in all three semesters I had him. Calc 1-3. I would of takin him for differential equations but within the first hour he had a 40 student waiting list!!! Just to give an idea of how good this man really is.
IT DOESNT GET BETTER THAN DR. JACOBS ... SIMPLY AWESOME
Simply the BEST...He makes math really interesting. If you want to know math, he is the man for the job.
Jacobs is an excellent teacher and a really caring person. He doesn't use the textbook, but rather pulls problems from previous tests for homework. That makes them challenging, but definitely doable. He will help anyone who asks which makes class very understandable.
Very helpful professor. Homework is very manageable and like the tests. Attendance is not mandatory. I would highly recommend this professor.
This man is God's gift to earth when it comes to learning mathematics. If you cannot learn math from this guy, there is no hope for you. He will teach you so well that you can derive like any equation because you understand it completely than having done it from memory. He will make you a BEAST at math.
Professor is simply the GOD of mathematics! Best math professor I have ever had! Hands down good. Couldn't ask for anyone better!
he is awesome, best professor ever, tests are not hard if you study his notes, his notes is the textbook :D
Honestly, Dr Jacobs is one of THE best professors we have at Riddle. One outstanding quality that he possesses is to answer a student's question RIGHT AWAY; he doesn't care about his flow of thought. He is EXTREMELY enthusiastic about the subject and STRIVES to the best at what he does. I felt like I was watching a thriller movie (at times) :D
Professor Elliott is one of the best Math professors I have ever had. He makes the subject really easy. Exams are not difficult if you study his notes and understand everything. I wish I could take all my MA classes with him.
This man could teach calc to anyone. Hands down the best professor I have ever had. This guy is more enthusiastic about teaching than a kid is about Christmas.
If it wasn't for this guy I would not be as good at math as I am today. He teaches not to "remember" but to "understand" and for this reason I am able to derive any mathematical equation I need for any situation I have been presented in either math class or my engineering classes. I honestly doubt it is possible to find a better math teacher.
Dr. Jacobs are the best math teacher I've ever had. His teaching makes me understand the material really well.
Amazing prof at mathematics! Take him if you can, because he is the best calc professor I've had. Helpful and straightforward, but can be just a bit quick if you haven't taken calc before. His classes fill up very quickly, and its for good reason.
Teaches in a very understandable way. Tests are based on examples done in class, just with different values. Does a good job preparing you for the final exam.
Amazing math teaching and a very nice guy. I would suggest anyone to take his classes. Hes extremely knowledgeable and willing to help no matter how small the task.
Dr. Jacobs is by far the best professor I have had at this school. If you have the opportunity to take him, do it. His classes fill up FIRST and there is a very specific reason for that. Do your homework, go for help in the labs and his office, and you'll be fine.
Easy A if you study notes and practice tests.
Dr. Jacobs is a math wizard. Highly recommended.
Dr. Jacobs is very knowledgeable but not sympathetic with partial credit. You'll do well in this course if you can get every exam question perfect every time, but otherwise it can be hard. He did give us extra credit at the end, but only because a student asked. However, he really does know his stuff, and he loves teaching. Take him but work hard.
Professor is very clear. If you are not perfect in math and dont have strong base, I would suggest you take him. I have soem areas where i suck at but he doesnt make anyone feel bad about anyhting. His explalantions are crsyteal clear and step by step. Tests are awesome. Just dont interrupt him in class while he is explaining something :)
Amazing Professor. You earn your grade in his class by the amount of work you put in.
He's helpful, but his tests are tough.
Straight forward. Clear. Allows you to learn the material and then builds on it. Doesn't go straight into the difficult stuff.
He's a great professor, he goes over the tests and helps prepare you well for the final. Pay attention and go to class and you will pass. Don't ask questions that he's already answered.
This man could teach a 5 year-old calculus. He makes you work hard but if you pay attention, which due to his charisma is no difficult task, you will find yourself thoroughly enjoying the class.
FANTASTIC PROFESSOR. By far the best at the entire school. He gives a lot of excellent examples. I've had him for Calc 1 and 2 and have him scheduled for 3. I'm so excited to see him again, he explains well and helps you so much. His tests are right from the homework and he does offer extra credit. If he's open, TAKE HIM, his classes fill up quick!
Fantastic professor, don't ask questions he's already answered
I have never seen a better math professor in my life! However, his exams require studying and full attention as they are harder than the homework. He gives 4 exams (3 regular exams and a final comprehensive exam, each exam is 21% of final grade) and around 19 homeworks (total of 16%). All of the homeworks are posted online on day 1, so thats good.
I have taken all of my calc classes with Elliot Jacobs and he has consistently been my favourite professor during each semester. In short, as long as you do (AND UNDERSTAND) the homework assignments you will get an A in all of your calc classes. He knows his stuff and more importantly he KNOWS HOW TO TEACH.
This is the second class I've taken with Dr. Jacobs, which is common to many of his students who took him for earlier calc classes. He's been at this for a long time so most of the tests/homework he gives are from past classes. Usually gives pretty nasty practice tests that prepare you well for the actual test, including the final. Just don't skip.
Elliott Jacobs is a competent, well spoken, extremely knowledgeable, and patient teacher. However, where he excels in teaching proficiency, he lacks in mercy. Tests are brutal, and don't reflect the homework problems. Partial credit is rare. Extra credit is nonexistent. Beware the positive reviews if you're not strong with math, his class is hell.
Practice tests are harder and longer than the actual test, so if you take the time to them, you'll be fine. Homework can be challenging at times, but not too bad. He does lots of examples in class. Very patient man, but shows no mercy for simple mistakes (exponent and log rules, algebra, etc.); it makes sense, you're in an upper level math class.
This man is a god among men. I've had him for both MA 243 and 345 and the only reason I didn't get an A is simply because I didn't do the homeworks. He cares about his students to the nth degree and honestly can teach better than any other professor at this school. Plus there are many memes about his quirkiness floating around the internet.
This man is definitely gifted in teaching math. He could teach a 10 year old calculus, he's that good. My best professor in Riddle so far. If you attend his lectures and do the homework, theres no way you are going to fail the class. If you still struggle, he is very helpful in his office hours. Just make sure you attempt the problem before asking.
Dr. Jacobs is a literal robot. He is very formal when he teaches, and sometimes it becomes frustrating. If youre smart and good at Calculus I would recommend him. But if math doesnt come naturally to you, no way! Take someone else.
I've now taken MA143, 241, 242, 243, 345 and 412. looking back, 242 with Jacobs was truthfully the most brutal of them all. I do not say this lightly. He is smart, but absolutely merciless. If you are not confident solving integrals, chose another professor, or brace for a nightmare of a semester. I wish I could write more.. please heed my warning.
He's really good and will teach you the material.
I thought I wasn't going to do well in diffy Q, but he made it quite easy.
This guy is a character. If you have a problem with teachers being eccentric yet stoic then you're out of luck. To put it into perspective, I don't get MA241,242,or 243 but MA345 makes sense???? Idk if I'm just broken but seriously... idk how to solve derivatives or integrate but I have an A in diff eq. His videos are gold. Class is helpful too!
Jacobs is by far the best math prof I have ever had, and it's not even close. He has the most enthusiasm for teaching, and it keeps you engaged and wanting to learn more. The homework is very easy but beneficial and the exams are very straightforward as well. If you have the chance to take him, do it, you won't regret it.
Dr. Jacobs is by far the best professor you could take for a higher-level math class. I was dreading taking this class but he made it incredibly easy to comprehend. His lectures are incredible and make math enjoyable. He also has a plethora of extra videos if you miss something in class. An absolutely incredible professor overall.
For most people, he is a great professor, he shows enthusiasm, teaches well, but when it comes to how quickly he goes through material its insane. I thought I had a good grasp of the concepts of this math, then come the exams. Over all not the best professor for everyone. Especially not for some who have a hard time perfecting new math concepts.
Make sure you really know the practice exams and you should be fine. I loved this guy.
W professor. GOAT in mathematics. Be sure to work your butt off. Lectures are amazing and he will keep you engaged. Fast lecturer, be prepared to take notes. He will make you work for an A but is phenomenal.
An eccentric, well-spoken, and amiable guy with 40+ years of experience, Dr. Jacobs is one of the best professors at Embry-Riddle. Homework is minimal but engaging. The practice exams are almost identical to the real exams, and he reviews them with you in class. Lectures are very engaging and well-rehearsed. Can't say enough good things about him.
Dr. Jacobs is super dynamic. Both his examples and homework questions flow together and build off one another exceptionally well. I tend to zone out, but he kept me engaged enough to ace his first few homeworks. He provides a lot of context for equations and derives them on the board for understanding. If you need help, reach out to him!
Absolutely loved him as my Calc 3 professor. The homework were on paper which made the assignments easy to get tutoring help on and not have to waste time on mylab. The workload varies as sometimes you'll have 2 weeks to complete a 5 problem homework (1-2 hrs) and other times you may have 1 a week. Exams were exactly as practiced in class.
If you are good at calc, Professor Jacobs is an amazing lecturer. His lectures are engaging, and he is well-spoken. If you struggled in calc 1 or 2, you will struggle horribly in this class. Tests are absolutely brutal and do not reflect practice exams/in-class examples at all. Jacobs is absolutely merciless, avoid if you aren't strong with calc.
He is an excellent professor! His lectures are clear and straighforward, he is also very helpful when you go to his office hours. He gives good practice exams to prepare you well for the real exams, and he is also an easy grader. If you want to achieve a good grade in his class, be sure to stay focus on every lectures and go to his office hours.
He is extremely enthusiastic about teaching and is the only person in the world I know who can have me waiting at the edge of my seat in suspense to hear the connection Euler found between imaginary numbers and sin and cos. I can hear people reacting to his lectures as if they were watching a movie or something.
Dr. Jacobs is a brilliant professor who truly cares about his students. The lectures are easy to grasp, and he answers questions pretty well most of the time. He's funny and friendly to students; you can tell he loves what he does. Don't step out of his class while he is lecturing, though - he actually growls and gets mad when students do that.
He is the Goat the Goat
Literally my savior and spirit animal
This guy is awesome. He sounds like the guy from "How it's Made" on the science channel and it makes it impossible to not pay attention. Easy homeworks and his office hours are super helpful. Practice exams are almost identical to the real ones and he goes over them in class. Only thing is he grades real tough on exams. CHECK YOUR WORK.
Best professor at this school
THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT THATS WHY HES THE MVP THATS WHY HES THE GOAT THE GOAT
His method of teaching is very easy to comprehend, and all of his tests are made so the answers are super clean (i.e. you're answers will always be something simple like x=2).
Great professor, his teaching style is very easy to keep up and he's always super approachable if you have problems understanding the material. Most of your grade in the course is the exams, study well for them if you want to get an A, the homework alone isn't enough to prepare you, you need to work on your own. He makes a very hard subject fun
He was a good professor. I had a hard time paying attention to his lecture because he would move through things so quickly. His office hours were very helpful and he was always willing to help. I just found him hard to pay attention to in class.
Professor Jacobs is a real character - his engaging lectures and practice exams that mirror the real thing make this class a breeze. Unstuck Study AI was a game-changer for my exam prep. Definitely take this if you can!
Straight up, he talks so eloquently, his lectures are told like a story, he has an extremely deep understanding of the material, his experience and wisdom is amazing. You'll likely love him, and you don't, you'll still come away with understanding everything anyways.
Dr Jacobs is the best professor I ever had. The man could teach calculus to my dog. I would show up for class all confused but after asking a question or two I understood it all.
He's very knowledgeable, teaches well, and willing to answer any questions that you have. He sometimes goes over stuff a bit fast, but everything that he teaches is useful. None of the tests or assignments are unreasonable difficult. He has lots of notes on Canvas, is willing to help outside of class, and overall is just a fantastic professor.
May have a good rating but don't take. Stuff is relevant for other classes but reduing the class I've seen almost nothing that was taught and go taught it in a better way that I understand and isn't confusing to a point where you can't form a question. Also put lives in danger when there was a hurricane when other classes cancelled he still had his
Unfortunately, Dr. Elliott Jacobs is now retired. I will forever proud to be in the last section of his Calculus 3 course. Best professor in the entire university.
