great teacher not just an instructor
Elliott Is SEXY!!!!!!!! He is also a great teacher, more help than most teachers

Good teacher, though younger pupils tend to pay more attention to him....
He is more than just a teacher. He really cares about his students.
Extremely cool guy, very nice and helpful too! Keep up the good work dude :)
Elliott is good looking and nice
he really cares and tries to help us
Elliott is the best prof, totally good looking and very informative!!
Awsome instructor and easy to get along with! Makes class fun and interesting

Perfect...
its great to have some young enthusiastic (not to mention HOT) profs here
Elliott has great sense of humor & its always funny to see his face go beet red!
Awesome teacher, keeps us motivated and has the sexiest smile ;o)
hard to concentrate in his class, he's just to sexy
Expects students to know their stuff...and easy on the eyes!
He is the HOTTEST teacher... The jeans he wears totally accent his ass
Awesome teacher and great guy, totally caring and helpful and very sexy! damn!
Elliott's the best
YUMMY!
A credible teacher, but needs to get over himself.

awesome teacher and great guy! love him! study from the slides and you'll be fine...
Great teacher! Be prepared to work really hard but learn a ton. Always available to help students and answer questions. One of the best!
Elliott was clear in his presentations, made clear what we could expect for upcoming exams and was always a fair marker. I heartily recommend u visit ElliottWorld *TM lol...
Thinks he is the greatest but is only ok.
Very good looking (LOL)! Seroiusly he is a great prof and posts his lectures ONLINE! Major, major bonus! Study the slides but you do have to pay attention during class however because some questions on the tests will be from an examples from class.
I highly recommend you indulge in the "Elliott experience!" A highly credible teacher with a heart of gold. His witty sense of humour and animated gestures add dimension to his lectures. I give him a 10++!
Charming attitude. Excellent during lectures. Very interesting, not boring, however he does lack some sympathy for first year students who arnt use to working as hard as you have to in his class. BE PREPARED.STUDY 24/7
Interesting class lectures, keeps things lively - however, he expects alot, a bit of a perfectionist so be prepared... expects alot from his students. (study HARD)
Hes a tough tester..but damn hot!!!
Elliot is a great prof. Study and Study and Study even more. His tests are intense. Also, if you are doing research, don't get a partner..it always fails. Great to have lectures online and he is always available for help. Great personality.
Elliott will work your butt off, but his lectures are so fun, you won't mind. Just beware the research project! a ton of work! and yeah, he's kinda cute for a guy twice my age
I wont take another class from him again. He is a nice, funny guy, but he is unreasonably difficult. The research experiment is beyond this level of schooling. BEWARE!!
Great Teacher! If you want an easy 'A' dont take Elliott, but if you want to LEARN definately take him. He's funny and his lectures are the best! His tests are not easy, but if you study you'll do good! my only suggestion is to shave his mini beard!haha
Every teacher should have to take teaching lessons from Elliot. He sets a good standard for the way things should be. Hard but rewarding.
He makes Psychology interesting. Slide show notes are very helpful! Elliot is very tough though! If your up for a challenge then its worth it!

elliots a nice funny guy.teaches very well with illustrations clearing all doubts in mind.he's very helpful.who said he's tough.he's not its only that psychology is tough

Elliott is an excellent proof! He's not easy but if you work hard you will learn alot from him. The two best bonuses of taking a class with Elliott is that he marks on the curve, and he is SUPER HOT!!
unreasonably difficult -- NOT!this is uni/coll not some "kiddies playing in the sand box" people!even if you understand nothing from the lectures, dude is there ALL the time and more than willing to help.elliot's class is money well spent cause
Psych is hard, not he. Always available, funny, and great to look at (beautiful smile).
I must say that he made psych fun...his passion for the subject is contagious! He expects more than most profs in this class, but he will literally go over everything with you a hundred times until you understand! The key is to go to his classes EVERY DAY
Elliott is hilarious...so many times I had to hold my breath in class to keep from laughing out loud :p while its true you HAVE to go to every one of his classes to do well on the exams, you honestly wouldnt want to miss one...
Elliot is an amazing teacher! The slides really help with note taking. And although you have to work pretty hard, he makes it fun and interesting. Best teacher i've ever had. Always there to help.

he knows his stuff and is available to help, but i think his tests are too tough. he woudlnt have to grade on a curve if he made his tests passable
Great class, demanding prof that strives for us to try a little harder. He believes we can do it :) Make sure you don't miss a class, and study lots for his exams. You will remember this material years from now
Great teacher. Not good for anyone who wants to skim through class without doing any work. This is university however. . . .
Very interesting class! You work your butt off but its worth it, because you'll remember the stuff for life! I recommend Elliott 100% if you want to learn alot - because he knows alot! Dont take this course if you only want a easy mark, because you'll be disappointed!
hated him at the start, liked and appreciated him by the end
Good times in Elliots class, would definately recommend him for any student wanting a challenge. I'll never forget what I have learned, I couldn't thank him enough.
I was really looking forward to this class until the first day when Elliott warned us not to bother if we couldn't do FOUR HOURS of reading w/ each class. So basically if your mom and dad aren't paying for everything and you have a job, or a full course load, quote:"this isnt tha class for you!"
Elliot Rocks! He understands the essence of teaching and psychology! He knows soooo much and is by far one of malaspina's best professors!
much too confident, views himself as the hardest working most intelligent person, yet comes off as trying to keep you interested. Makes classes much harder than they need to be. Usually when you work hard for a class its worth it in your education, however his class is just plain hard with no payoff
I have finished my 3rd class with Elliott at Malaspina! I really enjoy his class because I learn A LOT! Don't take him if you're looking for an easy ride - because he's not easy! However, I guarentee you will learn 100 times more in his classes! He is fair and is always willing ot help you out!
His tests aren't easy but no surprises, just lots of straightforward studying. Classes are interesting, and elliot is an over-all good teacher!
completely awesome prog
Elliott was one of the first prof. I met my first year and he made me feel right at home. Explains things very clearly and in a way that you will remember them. Tests are slightly difficult but if you study the material and pay attention in class you should have no problems. Really knows how to get the students interested. Well Worth the money!
Elliot was a great teacher, really interesting. BUT, his exams were a little like being poked with a sharp object. NOT pleasurable. But, in class he made the material interesting. Remember, Elliot LOVES his Neurotransmitters. Advice, STUDY HARD
Elliot was the first teacher I met at Mal-U. He made a lasting impression. I didnt accually take a class with him, he subed. Explains things well. It was a lot of fun. He took pleasure in telling us that that people are scared to take his courses because of his tough tests and the fact that he curves. It was good from my point if view.
elliot is a great teacher. He isn't all that hard if you go to class and pay attention. He makes class fun and interesting. I defonetly recommend him
I loved this class. While I spent a lot of time preparing for his exams (which were super hard, as all the other reviews are stating), I ended up with an A in his class since he grades on a curve. He makes the class interesting and easy to follow. I'd definitely reccomend him and I hope to take him again.
Elliott is an awesome prof -- I'm not sure what everyone is so scared of. Despite getting mediocre grades on tests I still wound up with an "A" in the class. He makes the class material fun! Just remember, he doesn't want a novel written for each question of the exam -- "because it's too hard" as an answer is just fine :-)
Elliot comes off as intimidating, BUT he makes class extremely fun, funny and enticing. His tests are hard, but if you study the way he tells you to study you will do fine. All in all i really enjoyed his class, hes a fabulous teacher and pretty good lookin too ladies ;)
I have not had him as a professor for a while but he was wonderful when I did. Even now I see him in the hall or have a question and he will STILL help. Definitely take him for a class.
bad teacher. not helpful, and very insulting to some students. just wants to make himself look smart, which he is not.
Elliot is a very helpful person. He pretends to be a **** but he's actually a really nice guy. He loves teaching (it kinda goes to his head). Overall he is agood teacher but you really have to go to class or you are screwed. Only problem with Elliot is that HE KNOWS he's a total hottie!
I found the class challenging, which is good. But I agree that he is not a good teacher. He treats students with disrespect and is not a helpful professor. I would not recommend him to anyone.
The content is difficult but if you STUDY you will be fine. He is a great lecturer and his door is always open if you have any questions. At this level if you are not going to study and don't want to go into this profession you will not do well. This class was the most interesting class I've ever taken. Highly recommend, but STUDY!
he is very helpful and good looking i enjoyed his class
Wears the best jeans! Is very fashionable, intersting and friendly.... Very knowledgeable and is well intended.
always willing to help after class and he's yum yum to boot!
He's a great teacher!! I find him inspiring. I just hope he doesn't see me drooling over him!!! Anyone taking his class, make sure you study the way he telsyou to and you willdogreat!
good teacher - really hot - really hard tests
The class is very, very hard. The content is difficult.. he makes sures you learn it. You will need to put a lot of extra time into this course, but you retain the information, which is good. Completely written tests, and will be the most stressful part of your life. Great prof though, helpful if you ask. Must work hard.. but it's worth it.
Elliot is definately passionate about what he teaches, which makes the content so much easier to learn. Plus, he usually has some pretty interesting stories/examples to help you understand different concepts... And he is definately easy on the eyes
Entertaining teacher. there isn't much instructions (u have to take all the info down yourself). He does it all by example, which is useful, but if u are working @ home, u wish there were some hard notes to look at. He is quite helpful and answers emails quickly. u only have to complete 7/11 assignments but each new one relies on the previous one.
Elliott is a professor who enjoys being in the extreme. He is helpful and if you can see beyond his bias towards big universities, I think he genuinely wants his students to succeed. His tests are difficult to the point of being unnecessary, which is why he grades on a curve. If you study hard, you'll be fine!
if you study, you'll do fine. He's hot and helpful!
Really hard tester, but he grades on a curve, so if you get above the class average, you'll end up with a good mark (avg=B). His lectures are stimulating, and he inspires thought in the subject by applying it to real world. He lectures with humour and his examples are clear. Take his study tips that he provides and you'll do well.
Very good prof, makes you work hard but that is the point of University. So hot you wonder how he is even allowed to teach.. which makes it hard to pay attention sometimes
Hard test!!!!!
Such a great teacher! I was so sad to hear that he is leaving VIU, I am going to miss him!
Loved his lecture classes!!
He's an alright teacher, but he's largely unprofessional and irritating. Certainly not someone I'm happy to spend money to learn from.
Great professor, very knowledgable
awesome
Grades on a curve. He is a hard marker but fair and tells you what he expects. And he's pretty entertaining.
When the entire class has a mean score of 40/120 on every exam, something is very wrong. Would not recommend.
Elliott makes it a priority to help his students succeed through academia, he is a true mentour. One of the only prof's I know that has his doors open from 8am-11pm!
Great teacher. Only take his class if you wish to learn. As long as you pay attention in class and take good notes to study you should be fine. Tells you what he expects but don't be surprised if you have to study around 10-15 hours for each test to get a good mark. Try to aim high on the first test, he grades on a curve and everybody scores low.
Without question the best prof I've ever had. Elliott is extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and incredibly engaging. I couldn't wait to attend his classes. When he tells you to study 10 hours a week, he means it. If you put in the hard work, you will see results. Would highly recommend.
Great teacher. Easy to understand. Demanding course load but very understandable material. Great teacher for a first year class.
His area of expertise is neuroscience, so being a biologist he goes into great detail beyond the textbook of the biology matter. Which one either loves(like me)or doesn't, depending on their knowledge in human biology. He may still grade on the bell curve, which benefits some more than others. All his tests are written - which makes you learn!I<3him
Elliot scared the hell out of me. He acts like you will probably fail, and it got to me. After 4 years at VIU, his course is the black mark on my transcript. Everything A- and higher except for the C+ he gave me. BUT, he is a kind mand and great teacher and REALLY cares. That is why he is hard, because he actually gets you to learn!
Even though your mouth basically waters looking at him, he is extremely annoying and there is a serious problem when people are crying after a "no multiple choice test" receiving a class average of 30/125
This class tainted my interest in psychology. Professor seems to loathe teaching and is very intimidating. Tests are all written, no multiple choice, and brutally difficult. I studied and felt like it was not helping at all. I will do all I possibly can to avoid a class with him in future and I would recommend you do the same.
Awesome Professor! Very informative lectures and grades on a bell curve which can really benefit you if you try. He tells you everything you need to succeed in his class and if you have issues he works with you to find a solution. very funny as well
Super awesome!
the most caring, inspirational professor I've ever had the privilege of learning from. He cares so much for his students & is willing to go above & beyond for them. My life is better having known him. He's one of the few who I felt actually cared about my education & my future. I encourage anyone to take his class. Plus he's pretty to look at ;-)
Great lectures very informative somewhat entertaining .nice eyes and nice to look at . I would even want to drink his dirty bath water he looks that good
Elliott has truly made me question my intellectual capacity and my sanity. I looked forward to his lectures every week, but absolutely feared his exams and to receive any grade back. He's intimidating but incredibly brilliant and helpful. Only take his class if you really want to grow as a student. Overall, I have the most respect for him as a prof
This class was a misery. He may be better in upper level psych classes but avoid avoid avoid for psych 111. The most unnecessarily difficult class I've ever taken. Left me with a deep hatred for neuropsychology. Also his tests were impossible.
Amazing introduction to first year psychology, approached from a biological perspective. One of my all-time favourite profs at VIU. Tests are made up of short and long answer questions, and based almost entirely on lecture material. He marks on a curve, and your lowest midterm grade can be replaced with the final exam grade.
cold but in a funny way. makes lots of jokes. isn't afraid to put ur projects on hold if they aren't up to his expectations. as someone who is used to A-'s as my lowest mark, i am simply hoping to PASS his class. very unclear with project criteria. doesn't seem to like viu and seems to want to maintain his harsh rep.
outside of class he's much more bearable. he talks quickly and goes through his lectures really quickly. don't expect to do well on his tests even if you study, theyre nearly impossible. the only thing that will let you do well on the "quizzes" is the fact that he grades on a curve. 204 is hard to begin with and he doesn't make it easier in anyway
I heard a lot of negative talk about Elliott & his method of teaching prior to taking this class. But I can now say Elliott is my favorite prof at VIU. He may be a tough prof to get a good grade from, but I grew as a student. You will not regret taking a class with Elliott if you are a diligent & hard working student. Oh & he doesn't hate VIU!!
As a student with good study habits, I find his exams difficult, and his lectures intensely stressful. You will grow as a student at risk to your sanity. HOWEVER, he is a completely different guy in his office. I highly recommend seeing him for extra help/advice. You will be glad you did.
Be ready to put effort into his classes. He wants to see students prepare for class, and review in class notes after classes. All written answers on exams, so not the kind of class you can cram for. Learned so much from him and his extensive experience/ passion for neuroscience! So for that, I would take another class with E.M.
Would not take again
He's hilarious, but if you're easily offended you won't like him. He records his lectures so you can listen to them for studying or if you miss a class. He doesn't care if you come to class but you learn a lot more being there. Has complete open door policy & will do anything possible to help you understand. All quizzes are short answer. Fav prof!
Let me be clear. Elliott is a fine person. But, unfortunately, he grades on a curve, so you will beat your ass studying and still get a mediocre grade. He see's the powerpoint as something to "get through", and because of this, rushes through class glancing over details that he will later use against you in the exams. Not disciplined at all.
He is a nice person and he is receptive to having people argue for marks. His classes are stressful however because he marks on a curve and we didn't see any grades until exam week. Also make sure to take notes because his slides are sparse and the textbook only vaguely follows lecture material.
Favorite prof! Super difficult class but if you commit to memorizing every word he says you will end up with an incredible and indepth wealth of knoledge on the subject you study, especially when compared with other classes on the same subject. Tests are all short answer, bring your sharpest writing utensil as you will want to use all room given
Absolutely hilarious, had him last year and he quickly became my favourite professor. Attendence isnt mandatory but you learn way more in class. His midterms are all short answer so studying is key, but hes always happy to go back over things, he has an open door policy and is often in his office. Plus hes a hottie so thats a nice bonus
His tests are the hardest tests and the worst thing ever. If you do not study, you will fail. Study weeks in advanced. No multiple choice, all short answer. He is a super nice guy but his tests do not reflect that. Pay attention in class, he basically tells you what is on the test. Super hard class & if you're easily offended don't take the class.
Loved his class!! You can tell how passionate he is about what he is about what he is teaching. You have to work pretty hard for your marks though so be aware of that.
He is a good choice for you if you are ok with average style for midterms. interesting lectures, however, you need to be fast for writing your notes or otherwise you'll need to listen again to his lecture. heavy test, unusual style. but if you engage in his style and study hard, you'll pass them. you will improve your knowledge.. take it
The worst.
Elliot was a good professor. If you are becoming a psychologist, or psych major, take his classes. You will learn the material inside out. Thats if you study everyday for 3 hours a day, if not more. If you are taking this class for easy credits, or an easy A, or you just need it to pass. This is not the prof for you.
Very good, but not a good professor if you are a weak baby who doesn't put effort into things.
Horrible professor. By far the worst I have had at VIU. His lectures are 80+ slides and he purposely words questions so that people don't know what he's asking. Tests are completely written, and he marks them so poorly he accepts you starring questions and handing it in again for him to double check (one test I got 13 added marks because he missed)
By far the WORST prof I have ever had. He gave me no feedback on a paper and a very low mark - when I went to his office hours to ask for more feedback (which he encouraged us to do) he told me that I "didn't care about my education" instead of giving feedback on my paper content. Tests were a joke and included questions about his own opinion.
Study hard. Know everything you possibly can. Write as much as possible on the exam. Listen to hints in lecture. Look at his old exams (if he offers- similar questions). Go to his office hours before a test. And above all, get to know this man. He is wonderful and will change your uni experience if you don't get jaded about his course difficulty.
Elliott is really nice/funny, but is an extremely hard grader. I like to think it's because he's so passionate about what he does, but if his classes weren't graded on a curve, I don't think anyone would pass. It sucks because I really like him and his personality, but I would avoid taking his classes in the future in order to save my gpa. :(
This was the worst psych class I have ever taken. It was ridiculously hard, he wanted us to run a research experiment and write it up as though we were submitting it to a journal in 3 months. How we could possibly do that and take other classes is beyond me and apparently everyone else in my class cause more than half of us failed.
Eliott is one of my favourite profs. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches and is more than willing to help you if you ask him to. He makes you fight for your grades and his tests can be difficult, but if you challenge him you can sometimes get a few more marks. Just make sure you know what you're talking about before you do.
The best lecturer ever.
Hands down the best professor I have ever had. Extremely passionate. It was also the hardest class I have ever taken. I had the highest mark on the first test and it was still only 80%. Thankfully he grades on a curve. Not actually a "hard" course but requires a lot of effort. Just do EXACTLY what he says in terms of studying and you will be fine.
So I have seen some negative reviews on this guy and what I can tell you is most of the students that rate him poorly are looking for an easy Psych Mark. This is not an easy class none of them are that he teaches , but the trade off is a huge tap of knowledge , this guy is intelligent , caring and gives a crap if you do. Exams are written 100 %
A word to the wise to anyone that thinks they can half-ass it in any of his courses; you won't pass. However, you put the work in, pay attention, and most of all listen to his lectures... I cannot stress it enough that this prof literally tells you the answers to the tests you will take buried within them. Great man, great teacher.
Elliot is a really nice guy and a good professor who is passionate about what he does. However he is a hard marker and his tests are super hard, no multiple choice! all written anwsers. But he usually grades on a curve so that helps a lot. Study, show up to class and work hard. He is also super funny and fun to be around.
I took his class once a couple of years ago. I knew I wanted to drop it after listening to him for less than 15 minutes. He is honest about his course being stupid tough. I have some friends in the pyschology program, they all say he is by far the worst prof to take a class with. Save yourself the stress, don't take a class with him.
Elliott is nice, hes good in office hours, but his class is very very hard. I would not recommend it unless absolutely necessary. He expects you to do a while experiment and . write up in the same semester as very difficult/loaded exams. If you have him make sure you study lots. All exams are written and very challenging. Go way above whats asked
Good prof but he doesn't teach you how to do any of the statistics. He assumes everyone wants to go to grad school and grades like it. Exams are ridiculously hard and he is very stinger with marks or class mean was 32/92 on the first exam. Speaks for itself.
Elliott is hard and is honest about his expectations in his class. That being said, Elliott is passionate and cares about his students. He has answered my emails on weekends and offered a phone call to ensure I understood course material. He is tough because he wants the best educational outcome for students (not specific to course material).
would not recommend him
Attendance for his class was not mandatory but, it would become significantly harder if you didn't attend. He explained concept very well in class, and always gave us time to ask questions we had regarding upcoming tests, or if we didn't understand something in the material. He is very clear when it comes to his expectations, and grades on a curve.
Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't show you will not pass. Heavy lectures - harder exams. Grades on a curve which is the only reason I passed. Makes the assumption that first year psych covers way more than it does and goes off on lots of tangents. He answer questions and is willing to help however he can, but forgets we are second year.
Elliott took over 300B TWICE in one semester, for another professor, who selfishly let us down multiple times. Elliott saved the class, generously, as he didn't want to be there either. Elliott is a stand-up professor and human, and if you have the opportunity to take his classes - you should. He genuinely cares for his students.
As long as you study exactly how he tells you too and put effort in you will pass. Lots of information in a short time that you need to memorize. If you do well on the first 3 exams you don't have to write the final.
His annoying voice and the way he thinks he is a better than everyone else make it so difficult to focus. I honestly have a love/hate relationship with him. He is BRILLIANT but needs to learn how to teach. His teaching method is so harsh. I wish he was gentler I could actually learn. HE IS VERY SMART but just needs to be gentle.
Elliott changed my psych major experience for the better, as the first prof to really teach the content I absolutely need to know for future research. I think the reason Elliott class is so heavy and test picky is because he's trying to sift out the ones who want a career in the field they need this class for. STUDY and ask questions.
Yes, this course is difficult and test-heavy, there's a lot to learn and the tests are all written, but Elliot is funny, kind, and available for help. Although a lot of work, late nights, crying, and the max stress level, the research project was so insightful and prepares you if you are wanting to continue through psyc.
He is tough, but you will learn so much valuable information in his class, that you will be thankful you took it. He will definitely open up your perspective about the world. If you try hard enough and ask questions a good grade is for sure within reach.
hard course and content but I feel he did his best to make it easy as possible by being readily available in his office. tests are short answer so you learn the material well and remember it. cares a lot about apa.
Elliott's classes are difficult, but he tells you exactly what to expect for exams and marking. He grades on a curve, so putting effort in really matters. He can seem intimidating, but he is a true marshmallow on the inside with an open-door policy. He cares about his student's success. Go to his office and get to know him, he's a wonderful human.
Hard class for an elective. I took it going "oh psych! thats easy". I was very wrong, but Elliot is a wonderful person and I look forward to his class every time. Be ready to study and put in the hours - he is not lying when he says you need to put aside 12 hours a week to study for his class. A lot of material but he is a great professor.
Elliott is an extremely knowledgeable instructor, and taking multiple courses with him has helped me clarify my path as a psychology major. His classes require keeping up with readings, but it's worth it. Ignore negative comments—he respects prepared, well-thought-out ideas. However, he can be overly assertive at times and isn't very tech-savvy.
Tough but worthwhile class. The content is demanding, but the professor is available to help. Using unstuck study, ChatGPT, and the provided textbook can make study prep more manageable. Attend lectures and stay engaged for the best chance of success.
Funny guy. Pretty hard but not that bad if you just do the work.
A lot of material, but not that bad if you put in the time. Learned a lot of useful information about interpreting studies and being critical of them, which has been applicable in all other classes. Very funny guy as well, entertaining
You either love him or you hate him, I LOVE HIM! He plays the scary professor at the beginning of the semester, but stick through it, he is hilarious and he cares deeply about his students success (despite what he says lol). Extremely helpful, answers emails quickly, has an open door policy if you need any help.
This class was great! Elliott is an amazing professor and all lectures were super entertaining!! Super funny guy! I always looked forward to going to class, you can tell he cares about his students (if you're putting in effort. Lots of material especially since all exams are written but if you put in the effort you will do well. Highly recommend!!
Was very clear about what was important and what would be on the tests. He's a easy to talk to if there is things that you don't understand or need more elaboration on. He gave a useful amount of review time before tests and always went over the test afterwards so you knew what your weak points were. would definitely take classes with him again.
