This class is such a bore!! Wouldn't recommend it to anyone
Prof reads from cards for lecture and it doesn't match what is given on tests. Never take this instructor at all costs!!
I had this Doc. Meyrowitz, and I thought he was excellent. he gives extra credit to help students out and for the end of the course there is an extra credit paper that he allows students to do which is used in place of your lowest test score. Let me tell you he WANTS YOU to PASS! And he will help when possible to get students to acheive sucess!
This teacher is very difficult to follow. His lectures do not match material covered on test. He is also incredibly boring. But what can I expect from a 4 hour summer history class.

very unclear. nice guy, but VERY boring.
Keep your liberal **** to yourself We want to learn history not why you hate the government.
Very nice guy but I'd rather slam my head in a car door then sit through any of his lectures.

Absolutely the worst teacher I've had in my whole college career (2 1/2 years). Nobody went to class because he was so horribly boring, and even if you did go you'd be better off watching the squirrels out the window because nothing he said had anything to do with the material we were tested on. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. SAVE YOUR MONEY.
He is very unprofessional, walked out of class on the second day! I was so ticked that I dropped immediately and spoke to the dean of the college, of course it didn't do me any good, but I hope this review will help fellow Macomb students.
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone.
This history class was pretty difficult, and I felt that professor meyrowitz didn't explain it well at all. I was often lost with his lectures and he was a dick to us most of the time, probably because only four people were passing his class. I doubt that I passed, but he offered no help, nor did he ever e-mail me back on several occasions. boo
One word: Random! This is his test: anything in the book, anything he thinks should be in the book, anything he says in his lectures, anything he meant to say in his lectures but didn't. If you take him, just sleep in class, you won't miss anything!!!
Professor Meyrowitz was honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. He explained the material very well and it was made clear on the first day of class that the text book was IMPORTANT. The only reason for anyone to fail is if they didn't pay attention or read the syllabus. Meyrowitz, if you read this, I still draw better boats. :)
The Dr. Meyrowitz did not explain the materials well, he also has a very bad attitude.
terrible...worst thing to spend your money on!!!
Dr. Meyrowitz was a great teacher. Very interesting and I learned a lot in his class. He was also very nice and VERY funny. I loved his class.
I can understand how some people would see Meyrowitz as a complete ass, but he is a great teacher. He often strays during lecture, but he tells you the first day of class, that you absolutely need to read the book, becasue he will not give you the answers, you will have to think for yourself. THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR THE LAZY!
Dr. Meyrowitz is the best teacher i have ever had. I hate history but i really did enjoy it after his class. It was like he went out of his way to teach us but he did not to spoon feed us the information. He's the**** so i would highly recommend to take any of his classes.
Dr. Meyrowitz is the best teacher i have ever had. I hate history but i really did enjoy it after his class. It was like he went out of his way to teach us but he did not to spoon feed us the information. He's the**** so i would highly recommend to take any of his classes.
While I was still in High School my friends and I took a college course with the pleasure of learning under Dr. Meyrowitz. While he successfully scared the crap out of the first day, over the course of that summer he better prepared us for the rest of our college careers as all four of us went on to get our Bachelor degrees.
Meyrowitz says over and over again that the tests are based on the reading so if you can't handle doing homework not only should you not take his classes but maybe you should give up on life. He's a great teacher and full of great stories.
although i hated history with a passion i always loved going to his class... he taught in a way i could understand and kept it very interesting... and i LOVED his corny jokes... just make sure you READ THE BOOK... the exams are a little hard, but if i ever had to take hist again, i'd take it with him
Some of questions on the exams are from lectures but most are just from reading the book. Very straight forward. Found the class to be pretty interesting.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is very intelligent and creates a grown up, intersting atmosphere. He holds you to a higher standard. He's very funny and tries to make History easier to understand by comparing it to the contemporary world. You shouldn't miss class, because you will definetly miss out! He loves History and teaching!
Coolest guy ever gets you involved to make it easier to learn tests suck
totally unhelpful, this is coming from an A student. inlove with his own voice. you would tell him a problem and he has an answer before you even tell him and totally goes off topic with it.
Prof. Meyrowitz spend a great deal of time in class challenging the religious beliefs of his students, especially the Christians. This can be rather intimidating for those who are not well grounded in their faith. This is a cause for hope. he is definetly not "lukewarm" but is very cold. Actively engaged in persuading his students to question faith
Dr.M is a good and fair teacher. He puts his heart into his work and gives you your moneys worth. If you want to learn about history, then attend his class. If not then take another class more suited to your tastes.I highly recommend Dr. M for your professor.
Dr. Meyrowitz's History of the United states is cake. The guy knows what he is talking about. Having said that, I'm pretty he kicks puppies. Don't disagree with him or he will try to humiliate you. His lectures, though very interesting, are totally unnecessary to pass the tests. Read the chapters well and you will pass.
You really do have to do all the reading to do well but the in class time is totally worth it.
Do NOT take this professor. VERY hard tests that do not match the lectures or reading material. I have no idea where he gets his questions from!!! Save the time and money and choose a different professor!
Professor Meyrowitz is a great teacher and is willing to help you to understand the material. Reading the material is KEY!!!Honestly can't stress that enough. The classes are great they are really fun. All the people who said he's a bad teacher are ignorant, lazy, and probably dropped.
Dr. Meyrowitz is one of the best professors at Macomb. He may not be necessarily easy, but do what you're supposed to, and you'll do fine. He's awesome at what he does.
Meyrowitz's Introduction to International Studies class was a breeze for me. A typical class period consisted of lecture and discussion. There were no graded assignments, and test material came directly from the book. Professor Meyrowitz is enthusiastic, friendly, and accomodating. The class material was a bit dry to me but I received an easy A.
Inneresting guy. The lectures are generally fun, but pointless. He doesn't teach the material, so defiantly read what he assigns. The websites are helpful. Three easy papers are assigned. The tests are hard but curved.
Wonderful professor... makes tons of jokes, so be prepared to laugh. Read the material, get study guides from the website and attend class and its an automatic A.
Meyerowitz is awesome as a professor. He wants you to get an education, not based on how much you pay, but how much you want to learn. This is my fourth class with him, because he brings history to life in ways few other teachers (none of my high school teachers) can. He loves to challenge the conventional thinking of his students, and does so!
This man can not teach. He makes us summarize all the chapters that we go over so at the end of the class we turn in a book of summaries. He lectures in class and says something will be on the test and its not. Or he will forget to say something in the lecture and it will be on the test. He goes off point way too often. All in all a bad professor.
He was a very interesting teacher who had a lot of knowledge to give his students, even though half would not show up. There was no homework only tests that counted towards your grade. He said to read out of the book for the test, but if you listened to his lectures, you will know everything for the test. He will compare history with recent events.
I did well in his class, but couldn't do it alone. He definitely knows the information, but he doesn't compensate for different types of people. The tests are from multiple books, and he specifically states that his lectures don't completely matter. If you don't learn well by just reading, you will absolutely need extra help in his class.
Everything a professor should be.
He can be quite entertaining at times, but all in all I do not think he is a very good teacher. He doesn't guide you at ALL and his lectures are pointless. If you work a lot of hours (as I do) and do not have time to read at least 50 pages a week, then do NOT take him.
Great professor, but very tough and very scary.
Very hard class, he knows what hes talking about, no homework but the test r almost impossible. he doesnt care if you do well, its your fault if you fail, take another teacher
Prof. Meyrowitz is a professor that is straight forward. He is very fair if he sees that you are making an efort. Nices guy and funny at times. History is his passion and knows a great deal of it. This was my first history and when i take another it will definitely be with him. Thanks for teaching me so much.
This was my first History class in College, and I really enjoyed it. He makes learning fun, and while his lectures may seem long or boring, if you really listen he is trying to get his class to really comprehend why things happened, not just what happened. Great teacher, only 3 tests and no other homework all semester.
His class is not an "Easy A." There is no homework except for the assigned readings. Do not get behind on those readings as all of his exams are based on those. There were 3 exams with about 120 questions each. He also had two opportunities for e.c. Professor Meyrowitz is really a great guy, with a passion for history which definitely shows.
Requires 50-70 pages of reading every week, and HIS version of HIST-1700 (The World Since 1945) has everything to do with the world BEFORE 1945! I'm a 4.0, had to drop him. Extremely pompous, ambiguous and, ironically, would frequently speak at length about how he felt THIS website is hurtful to him. Just avoid him--at all costs.
I have 65 credits here so I have taken my fair share of courses. This teacher was the worst I have ever had throughout my entire 22 years. First of all, you only have 3 tests and thats IT. There is no homework or extra credit to boost your grade. Just 3 tests which are 120 questions long, and NOT FROM THE BOOK!! He is an arrogant, MEAN teacher.
worst teacher I have ever had. He is an arrogant and intimidating man who, I swear, lives to make people feel uncomfortable and bad about themselves. I hated every minute of his class. He says you MUST read the book to pass, well I read and it made no difference.the reason I passed was because he graded on a curve and everyone did terrible on exams
He knows what he preaches, and he definitely preaches.
Professor Meyrowitz is simply another strict teacher with a PHD. DO IT YOURSELF READ AND YOU WILL PASS! 3 TESTS. Im very aware do it myself. He's only going to lecture no powerpoint rarely uses the board. A self taught Class!
Teachers open the door. You enter by yourself. - Chinese Proverb. Thank you, Professor Meyrowitz.
Hilarious professor. May seem intense at first but he's really a great guy.
History is NOT my strong suit, so I HAD to read each chapter at least twice to understand the basics...read and understand the book pass the class...
Didn't know what to expect when the class first started. Prof. Meyrowitz was the hardest but BEST professor I'd ever had. He pushed my knowledge and learning to limits I didn't know I could. I will always hold a very dear spot in my heart for such a man whose passion for his area of expertise is unmatched! You Rock Prof Meyrowitz and THANK YOU!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER CURSES AND TELL STALE JOKES! NEVER USES THE BOOK AND TELLS YOU TO READ...HELLO THIS IS HISTORY...WHAT HISTORIAN TELLS A STUDENT TO TEACH THEMSELVES HISTORY!!! SAD, SAD, SAD. DROP THIS ONE LIKE IT'S HOT!
HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I NEVER HAD AN INSTRUCTOR LIKE THIS. HISTORY MEANS RESEARCH AND you need a professor who will teach not talk crap and degrade you. Doesn't need to teach History. I still plan to write the dean....He claims to be a Military man it figures he is heartless!
Very good teacher, he makes you push yourself and work hard for the grade. Its not easy subjects but if you read the chapters and take notes on what he says youll be fine
I am lucky I had this professor before I transferred to OU because his teaching style is EXACTLY how upper level history classes are taught! The professor lecutres and YOU read the books on your own, then are asked to prove you learned from them by writing exams (and also using lecture notes). Not an easy class at all but I learned a ton Thank you!
I took him for 2 classes at the same time. I am a high school student taking dual enrollment... This professor was amazing! All he asks you to do is read the book, and that's exactly what I did and I did PERFECT on his tests... I RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR! Everyone saying bad things were obviously lazy & couldn't stick to the simple instructions!!
This professor was crystal clear on what he was expecting... Read the books & do the simple essays given. People who talk bad about this professor honestly blow my mind. He is the most reasonable&understanding professor I've ever had. You clearly did not complete the simple instructions given, and honestly shame on you... He was a great professor!
He was very honest and up front about what he expected from you and about what you could expect from hime. He also has a good sence of humor and is understanding that students have lives outside of the class room.
Very good teacher, funny, knowledgable, interesting, fair - he know's his stuff! He tells you what to expect & when - very straight forward.
A true diamond in the rough. Highly intelligent, all you have to do is show any intellect or interest and he will eagerly connect with you. He works very hard to be entertaining and engaging, though some of his jokes are groaners, and his fill-in-the-blank style lectures can be vague and confusing. Tests and readings are easy if you (barely) try.
Best professor I've had thus far through 4 years of study. If you're looking for an easy A, look somewhere else. If you want to learn, take a class with him.
Worst teacher ever im currently taking him and I hate it I dread going to class. He doesn't teaches and he expects you to know what he is talking about. He thinks he is funny but is just an arrogant old mean man. Also if your religious don't take his class he talks about God like he doesn't exist.. I would never recommend him to anyone
Loved the guy truly a great man, i learned alot from him. He is a brilliant man. I wouldnt say heartless as one suggested.Just disappointed when his students looked for an easy way out. would tell you, this is college.
Finished this class just this past week. Merowitz is seriously one of the most intelligent professors at mcc. He does expect you to read the text, and participate. If you show SOME level of trying he is more than willing to help you. While some of his lectures get off topic sometimes and this class isn't just a blow off course, he's a great teacher
I cant stand these prof writing textbooks and requiring them in their class. He wrote a hist dictionary that were required to buy. Im starting today and going to say i downloaded it 4 free (I didnt) and we ll see if he requires it to help students in his class or to profit. Im guessing profit. its a dictionary & i have a computer so y do i need it?
A fun, knowledgable professor. He knows what he's talking about and doesn't teach out of a textbook. For the majority, his classes are all lecture, but he does get participation from the class. He requires us to read our books and will discuss the subject matter in class. He cracks jokes and has fun, making the class easier, though it is still hard
I'm a 3.94 GPA student with a pending scholarship if I keep my GPA over 3.75. With only 1 semester left I would really have to mess up to get that under 3.75. I went to this class 1 day. Says we would need to spend 10hrs a week on stuff outside of class. Asked people who had him and they said A is impossible. He might be great but no way. very hard
u might say to yourself whats 1 hard class? Well, if you have a super hard class that takes a ton of time out of your schedule it has a domino affect that takes time from your other classes. He might be super smart and a great teacher but if 1 hard class affects your other classes its so hard, thats too much and he runs class like a drill sergeant.
Great professor. He gives great lectures and is very funny. You'll never be bored again. He doesn't write on the board much but if you read the required materials you'll always been on top of things. Essays he gives are intellectual so ppl looking for a blow off class look somewhere else. All in all, great prof. 10 out of 10!
I have taken 3 classes with Dr. M: HIST1600, 1700, and 2375. Never before have I had a better prof. His classes are both challenging and enlightening. If you are unwilling to do the work associated, don't bother. Dr.M is very passionate about what he teaches, and takes an interest in students who don't slack. He changed my life in a very real way.
Meyrowitz is a very intelligent prof who will work with you if you make an effort. He is strict but you have the chance to learn a lot. My class dropped from about 28 to 8 by the end of the semester. He is not an easy teacher, but he offers a lot if you are willing to work for it. An A is totally possible! Don't miss a lot of classes!
Says laugh at my jokes, but I'm not here to be your friend....? What? So you want ppl 2laugh at your jokes, but refuse to form a connection with your students? Horrible, worst prof ever. Thinks hes the smartest person in the world. We don't know anything bc we weren't in military so our opinion doesn't matter. Total hypocrite takes jobway 2 serious
Asks who is paying out of pocket for this class? Then goes on about how hard he had to work & didn't get financial aid. Boo hoo. Most prof look at class & think, how can I make this class entertaining & get students to learn and get a good grade. He says, spoiled brats w fin aid. ima mae this class as hard as possible....HATER
Started out the class by not reading and my grade began to suffer. As soon as I begun to read the chapters and pay attention everything got a lot easier and ended up with a B. YOU WILL have to do work. Expect to go your whole college career without reading? He can be annoying at times but oh well.
He is a great Professor that won't BS you as long as you don't as well. Its helpful to go to class and hear the lectures but its not necessary. He makes history actually interesting. Just make sure to read the book and that's the test.
He gets off subject every class, he will not answer any questions he tells us to just look it up. If we are confused on what we need to do he pretty much tells us its our problem. He acts like he is better and smarter then everyone else. It's like a self taught class need to read the chapters and take notes if you want any chance to pass.
The professor made it a joy to come to class. He has a sense of humor that anyone that can will make you laugh. I really learned a lot that certain religions hide (my opinion) and made me question my faith. This was my last semester at Macomb and I wished that I took a few more history classes that he teaches.
Professor Meyrowitz ran a demanding class, which he warns you and reiterates throughout the semester that he is a "Demanding SOB" so be ready and make sure you read the books! The jokes he tells in class are hilarious as well. Professor Meyrowitz is the best teacher I had ever had and can't wait to take HIST-1600 in the fall of 2014!
This is a professor who will tell you on day one his tests are not the same as others. The really hard part about the class is not the material but the manner in which he ask for it. He doesn't treat history as a simple point to point matter, but one of rises and causes that stem from the ancient to modern period. Be prepared to study and learn.
I did well in this class, but not because of Meyrowitz at all. I had to do all of the learning on my own. It feels like the time I'm in class for the lecture is an absolute waste. By the time two hours have gone by, I have about three useful sentences in my notes. Get ready to be called horrible names, and listen to disgusting jokes,
You have to dedicate yourself in this class. The lectures are long and useless, consisting of stale jokes and sometimes interesting facts. Your test are based off the book. This isn't a class where you just remember terms and dates. You have to actually understand historical events, which is fun, but it is a lot material to cover on your own time.
Upon entering this class I was very excited, I am a nerd when it comes to history. HE made us read 2 extra chapters in beginnin, we didnt finish other chaps. He made us buy his glossary which sometimes was inaccurate, and an 18th edition textbook although exams were 17th e based. His lectures were pointless and mainly consisted of bashing religio.
I had Professor Meyrowitz for War, Genocide, and the Holocaust as well as Western Civilization. Professor Meyrowitz is very passionate about history and the subject matter. He will keep you both interested and entertained through engaging lectures. He wants to to understand why and how things happened rather than simply know dates and facts.
This has to be the worst Professor at Macomb Community College. Seriously, he should retire! He lectures non-stop with useless and boring information. You must read and study from the book - i.e. you are teaching yourself the material.
He expects so much from you, and gives you so little to succeed. His lectures are boring and sometimes very unclear, and workload is to much, he doesn't understand that you have other classes to worry about, if your in this class, or planning, DON'T DO IT.
Meyrowitz is a very funny guy. That is, if you share the same opinions with him or are tolerant of opposing views. He lectures for 99% of the class period from his own notes, so if you can't listen and take good notes, then don't even bother. With 3 tests altogether counting as 75% of your grade, you can't fail one or you pretty much fail the class
His useless lectures will have you falling asleep, and they're inapplicable to what's actually on the test. The tests are based off of the book, so you must read each chapter with patience. He also tries to be funny, but it's just awkward - and in some cases, very uncomfortable and can consist of inappropriate jokes. Try another professor.
Class is a waste of time. This is a "teach yourself" class. Tests have 125+ questions. You MUST read the book and memorize practically every fact. Does NOT lecture on book material. Excruciatingly boring lectures on economics NOT history. This guy should retire, he just likes to talk about how great he is. I wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy
I went on to finish my BS degree at university, and still regard Professor Meyrowitz as one of my best teachers. Yes, he is tough, but I think people are missing the point of his lectures. He's not going to recite what is going to be on the test. He lectures to make you understand WHY. School is too much memorization, Meyrowitz taught me to think.
Okay, If you want to take his classes keep in mind his lectures slither along. In most cases his lectures don't help you at all during the test. I got out with a high A, so take my advice annotate the text book for each paragraph. It will take hours of work. If you can't or won't put a crazy amount of effort, DO NOT TAKE!
I would not recommend this instructor. He is knowledgeable, but does not convey information in an organized manner. Super boring! He read from his notes for 4 hours; facts got lost amid over color jokes. He frequently forgot where he left off. I am passing, but very frustrated this semester. He does offer extra credit.
Just don't do it! Take any other history class with any other professor. His 4 hour lectures were almost not helpful at all. Even the most successful students struggled greatly in this class. Only positive I can say was the extra credit was helpful. He was rude to those that were failing. So many dropped out. Only grades are 3 exams.
Please do not take this professor! He is awful. Please believe me. His lectures were so unorganized that he would end up repeating previous lectures several times, therefore, within the first month of his course we covered about the first 6-8 pages of the text. Not an exaggeration. Go to center campus to take history, it's worth the commute.
his lectures make no sense. he completely sucks. he makes very weird inappropriate jokes what are not funny at all and he thinks he is. no quizzes or anything. only 3 exams that are 100+ questions. his lectures make no sense. you pretty much have to learn everything on your own. dont take him.
My favorite professor I have ever had. He is very passionate about the subject and made me realize how much I like the subject. Make sure you read!
Everything that needs to be said about this professor has already been said, I'm just here to tell you that if you're still not going to drop him after reading his reviews, don't make the same mistake I did and just drop his class ASAP.
A nice guy but very hard to learn from online. Also disappointed because the description for this class was supposed to be from 1945 to now history wise, but he decided to cram all world history into the class. Not what I signed up for nor was prepared for, by the time we got to what I was looking forward to learning about I was already over it.
I hated this class. If I could rate Professor Meyrowitz a 0, I would. He does not give out homework, however, all of his exams are 100-120 questions long. He does not give out notes.
I had a remote section and you basically go to a lecture for an hour and a half twice a week and then take a few exams which determine your entire grade. The grading curve on the exams is insane, so you can easily get an A, but if you actually want to learn I wouldn't recommend taking the class. Passionate about what he teaches but weird structure.
Meyrowitz has to be the biggest joke at MCC, -To start off you have to buy the books that he wrote and published.. -I took a "World History since 1945", call he stated "Well you can't start a play on the third act, so we're going to start at 1700". -Cannot work Zoom whatsoever, frequently has temper tantrums on Zoom. -His Lectures are a trainwreck
This professor has been one of my favorites this year, yes his lectures are very long and boring, but I've learned so much. This professor is hilarious and very forgiving in my circumstance. There's no homework but be prepared for Exams (125 questions). Pick up his book that he wrote if you're taking the class. My tip: laugh and joke with him!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This professor is a joke. His lectures consist of reading out of the textbook word for word. He only gets through half the material for the test and then gives you 125 questions on test day. He makes a ton of very inappropriate jokes and tries to pretend he has a sense of "humor".
one of the worst classes I have ever taken. He yelled at the class at least 3 different times his tests were impossible half the questions weren't discussed in class or in the reading. the lectures were horrible they were not structured confusing and didn't go over anything we needed Overall it was an awful class DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES
I have taken several classes with Meyrowitz and have received As in all of them. The grade is pretty much based on test grades. He cares about his students but doesn't give good grades that aren't earned. Easily the best professor I have ever had class with.
Many people can agree that history is boring. However, it's the teachers who make it boring. Professor Meyrowitz lectures but doesn't stop for students to catch up. When exams came around, I was clueless about what we were learning. I don't know the pass rate on this class but the sleep rate is very high. Best class to take a nap and not learn.
Teacher rambles on for hours about stuff not even in the book and then gives 120+ question exam. Do not take this course.
