Dr. Godard I think you are a great teacher, I wish you the best in you carrier
Prof. Godard id a very good teacher. He explains things throughly and clearly.
Dr. Ellis Godard is a great professor. He really cares about his students and their success in class. He is always available on-line and answers back in a timely manner.
I really hated this class. I feel like he doesn't think that I tried. Didn't feel that he was very clear and I felt like I couldn't ask him questions. Not very approachable. However, was very fair and he is a nice person.
this is a great class. keep it up
His assignments are very specific, his grading is totally fair, his expectations are very clear, he has three times the office hours of most faculty, and he responds to email around the clock. Ideal!!
Survived methods with him, not too bad. Fun guy.
A very well organized professor. Only problem is when you need help, he usually blows you away and thinkss everybody knows what they are doing when they really don't.
follow along turn homework early and you should pass
This professor is very helpful whenever you need him. But he does go through his lectures kind of fast and there is no open class discussion between the students and the teacher.
he uses power point, assumes the students remember everything from 364 and 202 so he won't explain it, he talks so fast that you don't have time to ask questions. he has moved on before you realize that you're confused.
He organizes his class in a way so that he has to do as less as possible. He's lazy and teaches almost nothing. The sullibus is constantly violated and his tests are impossbile, he does nothing to prepare students for his midterms. Investigate him!!!!!!!
If you haven't learned the material in 202 or 364 yet, you'll find 497 difficult regardless of who teaches it. Ellis packs in material to help you to remember and make use of things you should already know.
His midterms are easy, and I say that as someone who bombed two of them. The questions are straight from the lectures, but it's easy to overthink things.
Professor Godard has an incredible amount of knowledge on the subject, however he does not do a good job of explaining. His lectures are more of a review of material, as opposed to teaching the material. He answers questions vaguely
Godard works hard to make it easy for students to do hard work. His notes are online in two formats, his assignments follow a logical order, his exams draw directly from the notes, and his grading is more fair than anyone's I've seen. Bravo!
How often can you say that you really enjoyed a class AND really learned a lot? Even the stats part went great. Yahoo!!
This is going to be really fun!! :)
He does not answer questions or explain concepts very well (just repeats himself exactly word for word). He does not seem to care if students learn. More interested in talking about off topic/irrelevant ideas than covering ideas essential to class/exams.
Some of the assignment instructions could be clearer, but at least he (a) is on campus alot, and always available online, (b) grades fairly and consistently, (c) curves grades, (d) gives us tons of time to complete work, (e) is a fun guy who really does seem to care about us and the material.
If you don't do well in this class, you're just lazy. Very generous professor, and many chances to earn points throughout the course. Very understandable and down to earth class where reality is a major factor. Take this class if you like an easy-going environment.
If you take him, be ready to work. He isn't very hard but requires dicipline to get things done. You drops lowest grades on quizzes, test and homework making it pretty hard to fail. Talks pretty quick, stuff is pretty much review from 364 and 202. Stick to the notes which he provides.
excellent for potential grad students, hell for slackers(unless they all perform the same, he grades on a curve). Has high expectations of students and is very knowledgeable in the subject. he assumes you have been taugh and remember everything in soc 140 and 364. review them before taking him.
He is an excellent professor because he taught us a lot of things in this class, more so than other professors. He is very organized in the website materials. He is a strict grader but approachable for questions. We have a lot of opportunities to receive our grades, including extra credit.
Great so far. Gives us all the notes, speaks well, makes challenging ideas fun without taking away the fun of the challenge.
Has a certain twitch while he's speaking. Funny guy.
Very funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tough the class was pretty big (150 students), if you took the time to talk to him after class, he was very helpful. He's pretty funny and his personality is so charismatic it helped me stay awake at 8 in the morning.
I do appreciate the avalibility of the power point. It is very helpful in my studying, and reading. I am able to make notes while I read. I feel like I am able to stay on track better.
Passionate and dedicated. Helpful and sincere. Intelligent, argumentative, and worth taking. Biased in certain ways, but openly so, which is actually refreshing. For best results, argue with him as much as possible. He engages material most effectively that way. Highly recommended.
One of the best professors at CSUN
Terrible class - one of the worst I've had at CSUN. PowerPoint slides are not helpful and neither is he. I cannot recommend this professor.
He is very helpful and organized which makes it a lot easier to understand. A very funny guy as well kind off dorky though!

Ellis Godard is a unique prefessor, he is a helpfull person he makes students laugh at his jokes. The class material that he gives out is fair is not easy, but you as the student have to attend class in order to under stand lecture and lab. He has three exams no midterm or final and 1 final project
Ellis is an awsome teacher; you can't find a better teacher for Soc.364; very funny and helpful. This is my favorite class this semester!
like most sociology students, i did NOT want to take this class. but he really knows his shiznit, and works like a dog to make the material not only tolerable, but enjoyable, and even exciting to know. i'm looking forward to the rest of the term!
Extremely helpful and open. Introduces lots of new ideas and encourages you to argue with him about them. Definately one of the most unique professors on campus (that's a good thing).

He is very koool. funny wonderful guy... love to be around him
Talks fast but makes the course as interesting as it can get. Godard is also helpful and will repeat himself until you understand the information.
Has a sense of humor.
He didnt want to teach this class, and only had one week to prepare, and doesn't like the textbook someone else picked (I dont like it either), but I'm learning a lot and enjoy it a lot!
Dr. Godard is a great teacher. He grades on a standard deviation curve according to all of the scores so it is very fair. I recommend him as a professor.
Talks fast during lectures, but all of the notes are available online, and he is also readily available through office hours and e-mail when assistance is needed! He makes the lectures enjoyable with current topics.
His lectures are very easy to understand and he makes it humerous at times. The tests are on the easy side but the curve makes it a lot easier. If you get the average grade, you will probally get a "c" even if it should have been a "D" or "F". He is completely fair and a good teacher.
Chill class. Read text and you'll for sure get a good grade. Just watch out for the pop quizzes...easy, but that means you have to attend class. Really recommand taking this teacher!!!
just be sure to go to class
very fair with grading and keeps you awake with jokes. Censorship is not an issue, he says what he feels and he doesnt give a ****. The best class you can take at CSUN. I very well recommend him if you wanna learn in a fun way. TAKE HIM PERIOD
good teacher..easy class... just keep up with the syllabus.. no homework only EASY tests and quizzes every now and then definetely recommendable
Professor Godard makes his classes very interesting and he is clear in what he teaches. He is funny, has a good sense of humor and he likes people from different backgrounds. He loves to try new foods, from different places, this is what makes him a great professor.
HE'S A GREAT TEACHER THAT ALMAYS MAKES SURE THAT EVERYONE IS CLEAR ON THE MATERIAL.I ACTUALLY ENJOY ATTENDING HIS CLASS
Not so easy class, but the Godard makes it easier to understand. Have to pay attention in class and attend labs to pass. Overall fun and cool professor.
He is very helpful. He helps his students. He makes the class easy. I didn't study a lot for the tests. Just read the chapters and listen to his powerpoint. The key is going to class. There are 4 tests and 6 quizes. If you want to take his class take it . You will get a good grade.
This class was not so easy but that is simply because I am not a math person. Other than that his book and his lectures not are extremely helpful and he tends to help you out a lot if you ask for help.If you email the guy he'll automatically email you back. I suggest that you read his lecture notes before class. Excellent prfoessor!
very entertaining, always makes the class laugh. He is very helpful and does not get annoyed if you ask him a lot of questions. He tries his best to help the students understand statistics. All tests are take home BUT can be difficult AND if you all the labs you will understand SPSS better and the tests. He also offers some extra credit work.
He is AMAZING!! I loved his class, he is funny and extreamely smart. You learn alot yet enjoy his powerpoint lectures.
He is a very smart helpful professor and as long as you try your hardest and show up to class/lab you will pass the class. I encourage anyone who is not very good at math but wants to learn and pass this class to take him. Thank you for a fun semester.
well all you had to do was read the book and show up for the quiz's and test's and you'll do fine
He is a very good teacher, if you were confused he would explain it to you. Plus, you makes jokes to make the class more fun and wake you up. The lectures were on power point, on must of the information on the test was on the power points and lecture in class. I rarely read the book and I got a good grade.
Awesome guy. He cracks jokes and makes things more interesting. Don't read the book- don't even buy it. Print the notes, read them a few times, and you'll get a good grade. Show up for quizes and do extra credit.
cool prof.
Teaching styles is very relaxed and interesting
Dr.Ellis Godard is very organized. Every thing that student need to know is already on his web page.He always provide the oppurtunity for extra credit. His exam for social statistic are all take home exams. He is funny and smart.
Very nice professor, he really knows his stuff. I would take this professor again anyday. He makes the class fun, he also has a nice personality. Cool Guy!
Easy class, just do the work. He is very helpful and has an awesome personality. He is quirky yet cute. Love his teaching style, can't go wrong. One of the nicest professors at CSUN.
Summer session was very difficult. He really crammed 15 wks into 5wks, difficult papers everynight. Was not helpful in answering your questions. He did not grade fairly. I would advise not taking him for summer school, though I hear that he is better during regular school sessions.
Summer class suck! Grading system was confusing, he didn't return the HW assignments back in time, & he was late to class several times. Crammed to much material per test, test were extremely hard & confusing. He does have a passion for the material & was very organized. He is a better teacher during regular school session according 2 other student
Cool Professor. Helpful. Sense of Humor. Cute. Nice. Class is somewhat hard in itself. Babbie book is good. Concentrate on his lectures for the test and you'll do great!
great professor, helpful and clear. Makes the class easy to understand. Students should definitely take this course with him. As long as you do the work you'll pass the class.
I gotta say this is one of the professors that I found dull and not helpful at all. His lecture was just reading off a powerpoint...in that case, I should've never gone and just gotten copies of it. He's a cool guy with a cute baby but all he did was show
Ellis Rocks!!talks fast as hell and has a lot of work, but he is easy to understand and very helpful. Gotta take him for stats and methods.
Nice guy, cute kid, great notes and website. Although his teaching was garbage, the class was fun and interesting.
he was a great proffessor. he made the class intresting and he knows his stuff.
Really knows his stuff, and really cares about teaching it to his students. Incredibly accessible. Uses ingenius formulas to standardize grades in a unique and fair manner. Chooses quality readings, and organizes courses very well.
GREAT professor!!
Unreasonable and unclear. Absolutely ridiculous at times.
Avoid at all costs. One of the worst professors in my entire college career. Ridiculous exams, unreasonable asignments, astoundingly horrible lecture style, inane grading scale. Some people need not teach, and Godard is one of them.
Incredibly clear and thorough. All exam questions taken directly from provided lecture notes. Grading scale completely unique, fair, and effective - best evuh!
This is gonna be great.
These clickers rule!
He knows a great deal, and seems to genuinely care about me as a student and a person. I don't get that often in a school this big.
Worth taking again.
The class consist of two exams, a mid-term and a final. Thoughout the semester there are extra credit oppertunities. There are clickers so attendence can play a part but he is peretty easy. He grades on a curve so it is not that hard to pass at the last. :)
I love this guy. He's pretty cool. The class isn't bad either. Midterm, Final, Quizzes/Attendance are all curved. Godard is the type of person who will go out of his way to help. Lectures are pretty interesting, especially when discussing hot topics like sex drugs and rock and roll. Pretty liberal, but for the most part remains neutral in class.
Very cool teacher, fun guy. Class was easy, gotta do the reeading to know the material. gratefull for clickers and his grading curve.
Godard is a cool guy! Hes a trip-out most of the time, talks really fast and the clickers he requires are very fun! Totally recommend to take him!
Looks like this is going to be good. He's smart, fun, and has us using some fancy hand-held input devices for quizzes, attendance, and feedbak.
He really seems to care about me as a student, and has been very helpful and available as a mentor outside of class.
WOW PROFESSOR GODARD IS THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER. HE CURVES EVERYTHING, HES VERY HELPFUL AND CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. HE IS REALLY A FAIR TEACHER. FAIREST OF ALL TEACHERS
Smart. Fun. Cares.
Fair, nice, understanding, caring, and funny professor.
loved this prof. He is cool, funny as hell, and cute in a dorky way. His knowledge of soc. is phenominal! he can talk about it all day and he knows what he is saying. There is only one midterm and a final. you have to read for every class if you want to get a good score on the quizes. We used clickers in that class, but they were fun. Take Him!!
He is a great professor. He definitely knows what he is talking about. His tests are hard but he curves. He has pop quizzes. The person who rated b4 me is a moron. Sorry, only someone without a brain needs to cheat on the quizzes (Q's r easy). Many people depended on turning in a blank final for 85%,they just didn't want to try n wanted easy way out
No Comments
Not happy with my B+. Highest grade out of 40 people was a 90.5%.
Don't take a cheater's word! Godard is solid and sober, and lectured on drug laws 3 times, in a class on the sociology of law. I've never learned as much in a class as I did in this one, and never had my understanding of sociology challenged and improved so much. I wish that I'd taken him for intro; I would have done better in my other Soc classes.
The blank scantrons only got the curved 85 on the final. Lots of people earned well below that for the semester, and a handful failed even *with* the 85 on the final. Godard does NOT make it easy to get an A - but it makes it hard to fail, yet some still do.
I'm enjoying learning statistics. STATISTICS!! Is there a better way to recommend him?
I really enjoyed his class. Everything I learned in stats we went over in this course, and learned absolutely everthing about how sociology and statistics apply to the real world. Because of him, I plan on getting an internship either as a statitian or taking surveys. I highly recommend Godard. He is the best professor I have ever had!
Makes class very interesting..the material might be a bit confusing at times but he does a good job explaining everything..extremely helful and fair..Take him! He also grades on a curve :)
funny class, but it is definintely a lot of memorization. There is a quiz everyday, which makes attendance sort of mandatory. It's worth attending for the quizzes, though, because all of these questions are on the test. Good class, very interesting!
Chick and Dude, if you are reading this all you need, stop reading any more comments and start sign on whatever class that you need with Dr.Ellis. Must take with your class with him. I need to say no more as others has already mention thousand if not Billion times that he is the fairest profes ever walk on the surface of college campus.
He basically begged the class to rate him!! Ego issues, but good teacher, honestly i didnt get much out of the class because I am slow but i managed. if i could do it so can u.
I really liked him and his class. Quiz everyday so come to class, quizzes helped with learning the material. I am going to take his other classes whenever I can. Great professor and pretty cool. Funny and really smart.
An awesome professor. He is extremely fair and non judgemental in his expectations. Show up to class, do the assignments, which by the way you can complete early for EXTRA CREDIT!!. The lab is just as easy, mostly simple group assignments. He does though expect you to already know alot of concepts (such as from soc 364). TAKE HIM!...
Just do what he says and he will help you all the way. He makes not understanding interesting at least.
This class was extremely enjoyable. Professor godard made social research enjoyable and easy to understand. He does expect you to know the majority of theories and application uses, if you dont know?, ASK!. 50% OF of the people enrolled were lost because they didnt ask questions. SHOW UP/DO LABS/DO ASSIGNMENTS and that will at least get u a B!
it is well past the deadline and he still has not sumittted our grades. In fact, our grades were never current during the entire semester!!! he's a nice person and swears like a sailor but I NEVER knew my grade in the class. Oh, one more thing show up to class ATTENDANCE COUNTS!!!
I really enjoyed his class, until this TOOL gave me a grade lower that I deserved. He gave undeserving people an A when they should have gotten a B, and vice versa. I guess I'd recommend him, but as for being a reasonable guy? HELL NO! The new semester started, and I still don't know what I got on more than 1/2 the assignments from last semester!
Godard is a great professor. He is so understanding and is willing to answer questions and help you out when ever possible. Social statistics was pretty hard but with godard it was at least bearable, since i hate math. drops the two lowest homeworks and one of the three exams.Great guy, highly recommend, i plan on taking him next semester again.
First class tool. Definitely has preferential treatment on students. I showed up to class everyday, turned in every assignment, took every quiz. Other ppl missed class, missed assignments, got lower scores and they still did better than me? How's that possible! The only thing he's useful for is to screw his students over! TOOL! Easy but a real jerk
I hated the subject, but professor was great, and very helpful. I do believe he picks favorites because I attended class everyday and did all my work and somehow my classmate who missed assignments and plenty of days did better. But overall he?s a great guy, very funny and tries to help you pass.
Without a doubt the dumbest professor I've ever had. Online class, we have completed the final and I have not gotten one thing back graded, therefore I have no idea what my grade is. He started really late, and everything was so jacked up. Do not take as an online class.
Owsome teacher, very cool and helpful. Emails work wonders! Very easy material just do the work submit all papers and EASY A!
He hadn't taught this class (or online) before, and had us pick our own textbook from a list of 20, so it was obvious that things were going to be rocky from the start. But I learned a ton, engaged my text more deeply than I ever have, and found him to be extremely helpful, supportive, and responsive - by the middle of the course. :)
6 week summer online course. Professor started 4 weeks in changing assignments and due dates daily. Was not on top of grading, and lost assignments submitted. Topic was interesting, Professor struggled to teach material online.
Do not take this class online at all, he was behind on his work, kept changing things, and was so unorganized, and unprofessional. I can't believe this guy is a teacher. He is the worst teacher I ever had, He doesn't take the class serious, and he is so lazy. Dont take him, whatever you do, dont take him.
Online summer class had an unusual concept; students chose their own books and presented outlines and summaries from assigned topics. Quizzes & tests were all untimed, open book and notes. Professor very helpful and supportive. Great class, would highly recommend! Learned alot about deviance.
I dont like that had us writed all the papers. Other classes I had onine, we only put things on discussion places on the web and teacher gave us good grades. I do not think is needed to think and say so much, as student. He the teacher.
He talks really fast. And curses like a sailor.
It's a pretty laid back and easy class. Just do the work, show up to class, and you're good to go.
just come to class and turn in the work. he's pretty leanient and is always open to answer questions.he tries to make as hard as possible to fail his class. lots of personality so lectures are as interesting as they can be.had him for 364 and chose to take him again for 497. i would take another class with him.
Ive never had a prof put their whole gradebook online, email a full status report every week or so, and say we could call 24-7. I dont want to learn any more stats or methods, but Id take another class with Goddard!
I like professor as a person and instructor. However, he does go through lectures VERY fast (as he talks too fast). He makes himself available to help students, but is a little intimidating, for whatever reasons.
It has been about a year since I have taken his soc. 497 course. It was rigorous but interesting, everything I have learned in this course I have used for consult analysis and other relevent entities. Only a YEAR AGO PEOPLE!. I got paid!.. Godard is the man. If you dont know something, ask him!. Just no mundane questions, it annoys him- D
PLEASE READ CARFULLY--DO NOT, NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE FULL TIME UNITS, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, YOU WILL THANK ME LATER, THIS GUY IS HARD,HELPFUL, BUT HARD, TESTS AND HOMEWORKS ARE TOO MUCH..i UNDERSTAND ITS COLLEGE BUT C'MON DUDE, WE HAVE OTHER CLASSES TO WORRY ABOUT ASWELL.
Good Prof.uses humor, somewhat helpful.
I don't think you should take him if you don't like to do a lot of homework, labs, and research reports within 16 weeks or less. However, you do learn a lot but you really have to show up to his class and read his lecture notes to understand the assignments. So i say this class is hard overall.
I loved his class. You do have to go everyday and at least try but I did learn. He makes everything interesting and he is funny. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Godard is the man! he keeps it real, but also entertaining. The negative feedback on him must come from some real lazy jerks, because he drops your lowest exam and homework score. Come on people how many professors give you that kind of freedom? Work hard in the beginning of the semester and you'll get an A without having to take the last exam
Well this is class is not easy...he is fair when it comes to grading. my only advice to all students that are thinking on taking this professor is dedicate and start the labs ahead of time. If you are a full-student and work as well, read the syllabus carefully because this class is no joke.
I would take EG for any of my Sociology courses he'd be intrested in teaching. He's a comical dude. He's there for his online office hours and we can straight up call him any hour of the day or night & he'll answer...except furloughs. -_-
A dozen offer hours every week, in every online place imaginable? Accepts calls 24/7? Puts his whole gradesbook online each week? Is ANYONE this helpful??
Overall, this class was a good experience. Professor Godard is helpful, available 24/7, will work with you, and is fair. There were times when this course was a struggle, but that is how I feel about statistics in general. This professor is helpful.
Worst professor ever! Class requires so much work! He doesn't believe you have other classes because his homework and reports take endless hours to complete. Available 24/7 BUT does NOT help you out at all. Please take another professor! You will torture yourself if you take it with him. About 30% of the students failed. You will regret taking him.
He is coo but a Smarta*** NEVER AGAIN, NO WAY, STAY AWAY FOLKES. it's college n all but Material way TOO MUCH for 300 level. Work is hard, tough, and intense. You will struggle one way or another with HW, Ex-credit is Not FUN, n THE Reports HELL. Quizzes TIME with Clickers which is none sense. Average class is a C. Good luck with an A.
His class was hard because he doesn't explain material very well, eventhough, he thinks he does. Labs- work with groups. Not easy Labs. Open individual Reports. Massive Work Loads. Yup, i agree with the bottom comment
HE is nice but don't mess with him. His class was hard because he doesn't explain material very well, eventhough, he thinks he does. Labs- work with groups. Not easy Labs. Open individual Reports. Massive Work Loads. Don't mess up ur GPA with this course otherwise get other teacher. Yup, i agree with the bottom comment.
Do not take this professor! He is hard, says he's there to help but when you ask him something he never answers your questions! Gets really frustrated if you don't understand the material. His exams, and homeworks are freaking long and hard!Do yourself a favor and take another professor.
NEVER take his classsss....terrible teacher!!!! ....ahhh..... homeworks are hard and awefull... he is funny but that is all about himmm!!!! no no and noooooooooo
NO NO NO!!!!! THE WORST TEACHER EVERRRRR!!!!!! I hateeeddd him and my whole class did!!!!!! he speaks soooo fast he doesn't even care if you catch him or not, he doesn't care that there could be some students in class for who English is a 2nd or 3rd or 4th language, he just talks without caring you got it or not..its a statistics, you have to be ca
I hated himmmm!!!!!!! no no no!!!! do not take his class, even though you have to lose a semesterr!!!! I am teeling you!! not a good teacher at all, doesn't explain anything!!!
His class is not fun at ALL. PLEASE, PLEASE, DON'T take HIM. GPA is not worth HIS class. He does check ratemyprofessor but WHO CARES bc it's the TRUTH what students are SAYING. Tough on papers,h.w. and LABS. GOOD LUCK YA for those that can STICK with it. NOT EASY!!!
Great exposure to lots of tools and methods, good experience, but LOTS of work. Prof IS available, and DOES make many resources avail, but you have to take initiative; he won't spoon-feed it to ya.
Greetings all, prof. Godard is a cool dude. Unfortunately he does not give you what you pay for at CSUN. Sure the class is easy; you can get a B or A with little effort. But what do you learn? For me it was very little(if anything); I have taken 100 and 200 level classes and been prouder...I hope YOU make a smart decision.
Took this class online over summer. Had to make up 4 Question Sets (3 questions each) and then take a Quiz online. Not hard. Then an 8-15 page paper due at the end, along with a Final. Class was time consuming but very interesting. Professor was very nice and quick with email responses.
This professor is great and very knowledgable. He is a bit fast but you can stop him at any time to ask questions. Just stay on top of the material and you should be fine.
Bad communicator. He speeds through lectures as if it were obvious and easy. It's not. And his default response to many questions is "I don't understand why this is confusing..." which is not productive. Finally, why do professors who are bad communicators always use multiple choice exams? His exams are like going down the rabbit hole.
Great professor! He is available literally 24/7 if you have any questions. He is very thorough in giving directions and explaining things. And just wants to help you pass the class. There's a lot of work, but its pretty straight forward. I recommend this teacher!
Funny. Very cool but he makes things more confusing. Probably better to take from someone who knows how to explain.
ellis is a great teacher! lectures are lengthy and can be hard to understand. he offers extra credit opportunities and makes himself available to assist students through many different outlets. there is a lot of work assigned in class but he drops the 3 lowest quizzes, labs and homeworks. take his class, it's hard to fail!
easy course to pass w/ minimal effort, a little more effort is an A. no textbook, no tests. grades a little differently on a certain curve, can be a bad thing but mostly good. funny guy, really chill. lots of ways to contact him, responds quickly. willing to work w/ you, just talk to him. don't slack just do the work n you'll def pass!
He is vey funny, but his course is really hard so much to do so many assignments and all of them are really hard.Try to find another instructor for this course. Eventhough he drops 3 quizes, labs, and homeworks still really hard. you woould want to be in the class every time because during the lectures he gives quizes and you need clickers for it.
Dr. Godard is a dorky, funny guy. His class can drag on sometimes but he will definitely make you laugh with his jokes. The material itself can be a bit challenging and he tends to be fast-paced. Go to class, read, and do the work, you should be fine. He does drop some how, labs, and quizzes. It's only as hard as an upper division class should be.
Take this class. Its a little boring but he knows what he talking about. Takes quizzes with an app, quizzes are 20% of grade. 2 Exams, mostly based on notes/powerpoint. 2 Short essays based on TV show Episodes. Easy class overall. I would take this proffesor again.
Godard is a very nice easy going professor.Students that complain or got a bad grade didn't put any time or effort in the class. You're at a university for crying out loud.3-2pg.papers 2 tests.Extra credit if u turn in your paper early. No citing or specific format.
Not helpful at all, always rude in emails
Fantastic. Just what i was looking for!
Very helpfull. Although the course is challenging, but the instructor was amazing. You have to read the textbook in order to be in truck. Quizes for every lecture, papers with opportunities to earn extra points. My suggesns keep up with readings, attend the class and do assignments.Start watching shows earlier in the semester.
This dude is funny. You HAVE to go to class to take the quizzes everyday. Take him.
He is very funny, and his class is super easy, never opened the book, did all my essays last minute, and took all tests online with my classmates lol, take his class if you want a chill teacher and an easy A
A lot of reading but it's interesting. If you do the reading he's an easy A. Three small papers that you can turn it at an time. He gives several ways to earn extra credit. Teacher is funny and fun. I would definitely recommend him. Also, never had to stay the entire class time he always was done earlier
Mr. Godard isn't too involved in his online classes. At first he was present & would respond to emails, but towards the middle & end of the semester he would go MIA. His tests (which r very vague) would never be posted when he said they would be. U must be really involved & actually read all the posts (which is what is on the tests). He seems nice!
Worst Professor ever. I normally don't do this but he lacked any communication skills with the class and was not clear on what he wants from the papers. Good luck trying to get a hold of him, he never responds. He always says one thing, yet doesn't follow his own direction. He goes on rate my professor and makes up fake comments to make rating high
Didn't think this class would be so boring. He lectures from powerpoints that are posted on moodle for you to use to study with. He did quizzes every lecture which I sometimes hated but understand the point. There was a final paper that I enjoyed doing as I show my best in papers. He was pretty clear to me, but it's very boring...
Nice guy but he went off topic too much. He never responded to emails or posted things when he said he would. Tests were easy and he wasn't clear on how he wanted the paper.
The class was kind of boring, but then again it was a class with close to 150 students...so what much can he do besides lecture for 1hr 15 minutes. There was a quiz every class, 1 paper and an online final. He was very unorganized, but really nice and gave a lot of extra credit for the class. He also curves the final grade.
He was awesome Once you get his vibe for how he teaches you''ll think he''s pretty cool compared to other professors. He gives EC and his quizzes are from the lecture slides. He''s really funny and keeps the class non-boring. He was one of my favorite soc professors without a doubt
He's a great professor and he knows a lot. The only tricky part is he's not clear on assignments and that can be frustrating. I recommend taking him. He makes it impossible to fail just try and you'll pass!!
Great professor
Do your work! don't fall behind on the assignments and you should be straight!
This was the third class that I took with Professor Godard. By saying that this is my 3rd class with him, it is not because he was the only teacher available for the course, but because I thoroughly enjoyed his other Sociology classes that encouraged me to take his class again. He is very helpful, always there to answer questions.
He is available whenever you need help, and it is obvious that he wants his students to succeed.
professor godard is an amazing professor!! he really wants his students to learn and participate, but that is up to the student if hewant to do that. also he is available 247 i'm not even sure if he sleeps. so remember if you're stuck on anything he is always going to be there and also a great professor to talk during office hours!!!
Professor Godard was amazing, he was very helpful with the PowerPoint lectures. The test were straight forward from the PowerPoint and if you pay attention in class and participate you will get a good grade. I would re take other classes with professor Godard. Great individual and a comic as well.
This professor is hands down, the best professor on campus. Not only did he help us struggling students by staying for HOURS upon HOURS after class (when he's not required to do so!), but he answered emails even at 2 in the morning! I suck at statistics, And my biggest fear was SOC364, which I barely passed (C-). Thanks to Dr. Godard, I got an A+!!
He's not easy, so your going to have to put in the effort. He is fair so with effort you will be alright. He is a bit abstract so try and learn what is to be learned from him. Not boring at all and that counts for a lot.
hard class, but fair grader
He is available 247 and very helpful. If you do your work, pay attention in the class and participate, you will get a good grade. It is important to pay attention when he lectures because he is a very fast speaker. I would recommend taking his class..
I would highly recommend Goddard for Social Stats. He drops the 3 lowest Quizzes, Homework's, and Labs. However the work load is alot and often difficult to understand at times. He is just a phone call away as he explains to the class and it is true. He can be reached practically by any way if its needed. Take him if you need the class!
this class was difficult, but Professor Godard made this class much easier. He is very understanding and willing to help if you get lost and need to ask a lot of questions. don't be intimidated by stats, Godard will help you get on the right track. The research project was fun
Professor Godard knows his field BUT his lectures go by quickly and he is not too clear on lab assignments. He doesn't like to be asked the same questions over. He uses a lot of profanity in class. He expects you to already know the topic and statistics. He is not clear on his assignments.
Professor Godard makes things much more COMPLICATED!! He goes off-topic too many times and is not clear on assignments.
Professor Godard is eccentric! During Lab, he seems helpful but does not give clear direction on what to do. You're on your own!! Good luck!!
Professor Godard during lecture just rambles away, most of the time. I don't think this professor is fit to teach. I recommend Dr. Marta Gaffney, instead.
He is a great professor, if you don't pass the class it is because you did nothing all semester. He literally hands you the passing grades, he gives so many opportunities to pass. He does talk really fast in his lectures so make sure to stop him and ask questions. ASK QUESTIONS!
COOL CHARACTER, RAMBLES BUT MAKES SENSE, ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP BUT DO NOT EXPECT ANSWERS, READING IS CAKE (IF YOU ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK), OVER ALL I ENJOYED THE CLASS, WISH I HAD EXTRA TIME TO PUT MORE EFFORT INTO THIS ONE.
Godard is probably my favorite professor I have ever had. This class is not the easiest but not impossible to get a decent grade. He gives a lot of extra credit & a lot of ppl dont take advantage. His exams are all online & open book. For his lab make sure you get in a good group so you can split the labs. His labs are also entertaining. #GOAT
It amazes me that my classmates are so naive! During Lab, students are not open-minded as they seem. It is hard to get into groups! I can't believe my classmates say good things about the class and Professor Godard. Some students ended up dropping the class because of this. So very sad!! :(
Confusing and offensive to women. Professor Godard rambles in class and is not too clear on assignments and in lab. He is different from other professors. I don't recommend.
Godard is not clear on assignments. You have to work for it. His lectures are not consistent. His rhetoric might be out of line of Postive Normative Sociology. His views that Sociology ought to be "neutral" is ridiculous! Sociology can be BOTH Neutral and used to advance Social Reform or 'bias' in a positive way to advance human civilization.
Honestly such an easy class. 3 short papers, a midterm and final (both take-home). Pretty straight forward. The only thing I have to complain about are his lectures. Rambles a lot but nothing unbearable. I would definitely take this class ! I'm all for easy classes lol :)
Great person, not that great of a lecturer. He flies through slides, often times leaving people confused and frustrated. His grading scale is way more complicated than it should be.
Worst online class I have ever taken. Never responded promptly, and he says there are millions of ways to get ahold of him. He was late on posting everything. Only showed us our grade twice in the whole semester, and it didn't include everything we had done. Still waiting on final grade and grades were due 3 days ago. DO NOT TAKE.
Worst online class I've taken @ CSUN. First, his class has multiple textbooks so I found it absolutely absurd in relation to the exams. They were open notes/books & no time limit but it was still impossible to find answers even when searching online. He almost never updated grades, our final grade was days late & when I expected a B, I got a C.
he gives you every chance to succeed. If you fail you must have tried really hard to. its a lot to learn when taking in summer session but just go to class and ask questions!
One of the better teachers I have had at CSUN. He does everything he can to help you pass.. I think it would take more effort to fail than it does to pass! Drops 3 hw, 3 labs and 3 quizzes. He also is extremely easy to get in touch with outside of class. Highly recommend taking him!
honest, straightforward professor, he actually teaches you stuff. everything is common sense, pay attention in class and show up. both bid term and final is online and open book. you can't fail it.
Lectures are always interesting. Every class we had a quiz. It took me a week to catch on to his tricks. The quiz answers are either common sense, something he literally just said, or a question from the last quiz. I can honestly say I haven't opened the book since week 1 and I have a B+ in the class. Mid term and final are online, no time limit.
He makes you work for your grade, but I have never seen a professor more invested in his students. He is ALWAYS available because he wants to help you pass. Literally makes it impossible for you to fail. drops 3 lowest quizzes, homeworks, and labs & offers tons of extra credit. Daily quizzes through so attendance is mandatory
There's a lot of work. A quiz every class, although it's really easy, only 5 questions. Lots of hw that is worth quite a bit of your grade, also lots of lab work. attendance is mandatory!! Only a midterm and final which are both on moodle and open notes/ open book. He's really nice and funny. I def would take him again, just be prepared to work.
There is a quiz every class. He goes over the powerpoints and explains them in depth. He posts them online afterwards. He has midterm and final online with no time limit. He states that his class is 3 hours long but he lets us out earlier! He is a very funny professor and he is better than any other sociological professors.
He doesn't give homework but if you do the readings, it will prepare you for the tests. Most of the questions on the exams are from the powerpoint and save the quiz questions to help you on the exams. He is hilarious and I look forward to his class and I love the Criminal Justice major, and he has amazing topics!
He's a really great professor, very knowledgeable and funny. He makes Stats fun and easy to learn, just pay attention. He gives out extra credit, and is available whenever you need him. There are 10 Hws, 3 Reports and labs but drops lowest ones. He's helpful and a really cool professor. Would recommend.
8 HW's, 3 research reports, 10 quizzes? Drops the lowest 3 of each category, no midterm, no final, so much extra credit opportunities, I mean you have to try to fail honestly. Textbook use only for HW. GO TO CLASS, it counts towards your grade, easy points.
I can't believe how awesome this guy is. Makes statistics really sexy. Don't skip class or he will call you in the middle of the night. Uses very funny examples in class. And a decent teacher, too. Love the scooter!
He's a great professor. He knows the material well and he is funny. Because his lectures are fast paced it helps to have read the assigned chapters before class. There are three major research reports and weekly lab assignments. Look at the Research report ahead of time and ask him for help if needed.
He drops the 3 lowest of everything (Quizzes, HW's. etc). No midterm, no final, just research reports which aren't extremely hard, just pay attention! He's super chill, gives extra credit, always available outside of class. You really need to TRY to fail to be honest. Just do the work.
Great Professor he definitely is available 24/7 if you need help! Just do the work and you will pass the class and do the extra credit he gives. You really need to try to fail, I did all my work and did a few extra credits got an A on the class and the lab.
Professor Godard has a different teaching method from other professors at CSUN. I understand more about 364 through his explanations than I did when I originally took the course. He's available for students when they need help through so many forms, including by phone. He genuinely wants you to succeed. Best professor I had this semester!
Difficult course but Ellis makes it nearly impossible to fail. Show up to class and lab and you'll be alright. Ellis also shares all his contact information, making himself available 24/7.
Professor Godard is amazing. There are a lot of hw assignments but drops the lowest 3. His grading method is fair. He wants students to succeed in his class. I encourage students to attend his class regularly because there are quizzes based on the lecture.
Professor Godard does everything he can to make sure you pass. He gives so much extra credit that it's hard to fail his class. Overall, he's great and I would recommend him.
Honestly, be prepared for daily quizzes. Pay attention to the things he repeats MANY times in class. If you dont go to class you will lose out in points, so GO. His homework is not hard if you understand the concept. Labs arent hard as long as you pay attention and ASK FOR HELP. I dont think I would have gotten an A and A- in lab if I did not.
Personally, I returned to college after a long hiatus. Professor Godard, made it easy to understand the material and was quick to reply to emails. It was a challenging course, but the material learned was very interesting. He jokes around, and is part of what kept me going to class. Extra Credit was very helpful in my case!
Tough class, but it is upper level statistics... Do all of the work, he drops the three lowest quizzes, labs, hws, and research reports. Great professor, good luck trying to get into his class, it fills up fast!
Every class is engaging. You have homework that are due in a reasonable time. If you go to class you will not regret it. Every lecture will help you with future exams and each lab will help you towards the final project.
He is a very acquired taste (to be kind). Very vulgar sense of humor (constantly talking about and asking about sex). He has a very arrogant way of teaching and almost gives the sense that questions annoy him and he doesnt really want to help. Although he says he always responds fairly quickly, I had several emails unanswered. Very dissatisfied.
He was OKAY in terms of being a professor. His lectures are heavy and boring (case for majority of the professors). His grading confuses me and his homework assignments do not make sense and he doesn't explain it thoroughly. He has take home exams but he has a problem for not explaining what he wants us to answer. I would not take him again.
and caring. The most understanding professor. Really cares about students!!!!!!
Prof is wonderful. Helps everyone. Extremely knowledgeable. A dream team 1st round pick. Take him!!!!
Plays instructor, mentor, advisor, cheerleader, defender, and DJ all at once. Bravo.
In my four years at CSUN, I have never encountered such a horrible professor. He is extremely arrogant and rude when it comes to dealing with students. Claims to be accessible but rarely responds to emails. He makes students do an unreasonable amount of work (HW, daily quizzes, labs). I would recommend that sociology majors steer clear of him.
He is an amazing professor though his sense of humor is not for everyone but oh well. He does have a heavy coursework but he gives you all the materials to pass so if you dont its because YOU didnt put in the work. So much extra credit and is always eager to help. He drops 3 hw and quizzes also. Final is either paper or exam, you get to decide.
He is a really fun professor and he does pop quizzes during the lectures that are easy 5 points to help your grades and the exams are online. He is hilarious and I wish he taught more CJS classes!
I decided to take him because I had previously taken him for research methods. I thought it would be a good idea. It was horrible he made you feel dumb when you didn't understand something or asked a simple question. He was not clear on his grading scale and took forever to grade our homework. He would say one thing and do another thing.
If I could go back in time and take a different professor I would. He says one thing but does another. Tells you one thing in person but when you ask him again he denies of ever saying it. He is unclear of what he wants and confuses you instead of helping. His instructions are unclear and so is his ways of teaching.
He provides you with various forms of extra credit and the homework seems pretty easy at first. But as the course goes on he becomes less helpful and replies to emails in a rude manners. Makes rude comments towards students and puts students on the spot for asking a simple question. I would not recommend him at all. Please avoid him at all cause.
Great professor! Open minded! Lectures are fun! Very Informative!
Professor Godard is extremely funny. He has a deep understanding of pure sociology and social geometry. Attending class is mandatory, but interesting. The ideas presented are theoretical and give a great depiction of what the future has in store for us.
I highly recommend this professor! He really makes the course approachable for everyone and gives many opportunities to pass and earn a good grade. Not overloaded with work and keeps his lectures interesting and relevant. Drops two quizzes and will give you a passing grade on every quiz as long as you're in class.
This is my 2nd time taking Godard. He cares!! Their are lab quizzes, a handful of homework's, and 3 research reports. If you show up, try, and turn in your work you will pass. The material can be difficult but he helps you succeed. If you try you will pass!!! He is my favorite professor!! He is funny and personable. 10/10 would recommend.
Godard is sooo amazing! He makes the course interesting and gives tons of extra credit opportunities. I took him for Stats424 along with the lab, and boy was it challenging. However, he is available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have. There is no midterm or final just three research reports which are intense. There are no tests just quizzes.
Super funny/relatable! Clear grading, and extra credit! Notifies you about your grade often. Can't skip class, but VERY minimal outside work. During COVID-19 pandemic, he's giving great resources, and offering emotional support, he truly cares about student. If you're easily offended by having your views challenges though, don't take this class.
Uses a clicker for pop quizzes based on powerpoint slides, which is really easy. His textbook is very easy to understand and exams are easy too. He is hilarious! He will let you out of class early.
Ellis is a great person. His assignments are pretty straight forward and few. That being said, because there is few you should study hard for all of them. A lot of students take this class for granted. Just read and memorize the material before the quiz everyday and you will be fine. If you are a good student you will have no problem getting an A.
Honestly Mr Goddard is the best Sociology teacher Ive had and one of my favorite teachers overall. He is very down to earth and not afraid to share his opinions. That being said be prepared for some opposing views to any beliefs you may have prior to taking the class. Nothing is off the table when talking with Mr Goddard and to me thats best.
He's a good professor, the work load is a lot in my opinion, but it is what it is. The reports are HARD!!!!
This teacher seems nice at first then comes off just so rude and such a know it all. Every question asked always made my group feel dumb just for asking questions that we stopped asking. Then our lab reports would get comments like "this makes no sense, why bother asking if you arent going to take my help" Never had as bad of a teacher as this one
The amount of expectations this professor wanted for every lab to be perfect was ridiculous. Not a single homework or lab that was ever clear although he claims everything is so clear and easy to understand (to him) it was not. He says things in lecture then denies those instructions later on in lab. Theres way better teachers, take a dif one!
I loved Professor Godard. He was very accessible outside of class, making himself available through pretty much any platform. He takes baby steps with the lectures and really explains things thoroughly in order that people can understand. Some labs are easy, some hard. Homework was quite hard. Lots of extra credit opportunities. I would recommend.
Godard seems nice/funny at first (as others mentioned), makes it seem like he's giving a great simple break down, and is so helpful. You can ask him questions but you get rude/arrogant responses that make you feel stupid. The HW is way harder than the examples he gives in lecture. Take any other prof! By the end my group was so lost and stressed.
I really wanted to love his class, but I was let down. He answers back to most of his emails, but It was often too late. I never got grades for most of my HW-I'm talking about stuff I've done months ago. Going the whole semester not knowing where you stand was too much anxiety to handle. Grades were due 2 days ago and he still hasn't posted them.
I took this course during the summer. It was very fast paced and consisted of a lot of group labs and homework assignments. It was a lot of work but Professor Godard was always there to help. He can be very blunt and may come across as rude but is still helpful.
Godard is a very sharp professor and definitely knows his stuff. He speaks eloquently and can move fast through his lectures but he really does give you the tools to succeed if you put in your part. Quizzes every class which kind of sucked but he gives you opportunities to raise your grade if you fall behind.
Professor Ellis makes himself available like no other. He provides you with all types of ways to communicate with him. You don't want to miss class nor do you want to skip on any assignment. Do the extra credit he provides - which are many different ones! Most importantly - don't wait last minute to let him know you're not understanding something.
Professor Godard is one of the toughest professors I have had in my college career. However, if you actually do the readings and take good notes on his lectures you will be fine. He also gives live quizzes every class these quizzes are during the lecture which help keep you stay on track throughout the class.
Professor Godard provided regular updates during the semester. The course is tough, but he's a great professor!
Pretty horrible professor. Says one thing in lecture then says something completely opposite in lab, all while making you feel stupid for even asking a question.. sometimes goes beyond normal and ignores your questions still while calling you a moron without actually saying it. Doesn't seem to answer those whose broad vocabulary isn't used like his
Encourages questions. Accessible outside of class/office hours on multiple platforms besides zoom. Uses appropriate examples for a sociology class (music, sex, education, income, race, etc.) Always ready to help. Baby steps. Do your work. Expect several labs (group work) and one quiz per week; homework (solo) every other week. No exams.
While Prof. G isn't a bad guy, but his teaching style can leave something to be desired. He has been teaching this course for years thinks that everything should be easy to understand. He uses a lot of ableist language and can be condescending at times. Not a bad class, but if you struggle with math I would maybe look for a different professor.
This professor seems nice but in reality its a trick ! You can ask for as much help but he will basically call you stupid in big words ! He says it is easy but I dont think he understands HES been doing this for so many years . His homework and labs arent clear at all ! Please dont take him you will be spending hours on his class !
never take this professor, hes so rude and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. i hated this class
Dr. Godard is one of the few professors that genuinely love teaching. The course material is hard (it's supposed to be), he is more than fair with his criteria. This class, no matter the teacher, is not an easy A! Uses relevant sociological examples, throws in some memes, and is generous with grading as long as you make an honest effort.
I didnt enjoy it but its a methods class that I had no interest in taking in the first place. The homework and labs can sometimes be confusing and do require lots of your time. He was very accessible outside of class, just a little rude when helping.
Professor Godard is nice and he truly does care about his students. He texts and send reminders to students if they are not doing assignments and labs. His grading system is a bit difficult to understand. He leave unconstructive feedback on my labs and assignments.
This class was not intensely hard. Requires 3 papers throughout the semester that are extremely easy and he lets you submit them at your own time which I loved. The down side of this class I would have to say was the quizzes every class based on the reading as sometimes they were not based on the reading. A manageable class if you do the work.
Godard is very rude and condescending if you do not understand what he is saying. He has very little patience when it comes to having to repeat himself, and will often just repeat himself louder rather than offer an alternative explanation.
Very condescending with the way the assignments are worded. Prepare to read words like histrionics lol.
I was worried about this class because of past ratings but after taking professor Godard, he isn't bad at all!! As long as you're constantly asking questions and participating, I believe you can do well in this class. The material is somewhat hard but it is an upper division course so definitely gotta put in the work
Professor Godard was a great Professor! Of course, the material is a lot because it's an upper division so you do have to put in the work. Attendance does matter so you can understand the lectures more. For lab he was super helpful and helped me understand the assignment more, He's a hilarious professor! I do recommend him.
Professor does not care about his students and makes very disrespectful and disturbing comments to female students
Listen to comments talking about how condescending he is! Prof. Godard seems like he is nice and I think he tries to be but honestly, he is just very condescending. He assumes everyone in this class should be a math wiz and lacks empathy. He gets a little annoyed and impatient when we ask questions and states, "This is elementary-level stuff."
Half of the class didn't pass. That should tell you a lot already. He always makes comments like, "A toddler can do this." He is a harsh grader who writes paragraphs on your assignments on why you got something wrong but doesn't explain it when you ask. Ask anybody around campus, and everybody says that he is condescending.
He writes long paragraphs about what you did wrong on all your assignments, yet the feedback isn't helpful. When you ask him for help, he's often condescending or will even refuse, but he will reply fast. He thinks all the content is easy as if he hasn't been doing it for years. Difficult extra credit assignments, like finding his car on campus.
Professor Godard is super clear with instructions for each assignment and has an organized syllabus and class layout. 3 short papers relating lectures to television shows, midterm, and final. Very clear on how to succeed in each of those and gives chances for extra credit at end of semester. Is also just such a cool and fun professor!
There is a lot of work but if you attend all of the lectures and go to all of the labs, the work is manageable! Lots of extra credit and he is accessible outside of class. Godard really cares about his students and it is seen in the safety nets meant to help students pass. He is not condescending like the reviews say.
This guy's great! Passionate about stats, & you will be too by the end. Contact him on any app, any time. He replies quickly to email, instantly to texts, even takes calls at 2am. But don't skip class or work. The course is organized in what he calls "baby steps"; if you miss a few, find him pronto before you get lost. He'll help; you'll need it.
I wouldn't say this teachers was completely bad but definitely need to put in the work to get a decent grade. Must attend all classes as you get graded on that. A lot of group projects. In class quizzes, about 9 hw assignments which are sorta difficult. He's definitely flexible with office hours but honestly recommend tutoring instead.
Professor Godard is passionate about this course material. While it can be challenging, he's accessible and willing to help if you put in the effort. Apps like unstuckstudy ai and the free textbook are great study aids. Just don't skip class!
This class is obviously using spss. If it's fresh in your mind the lab work should be easy but if not get ready to work. Had a lot of study sessions & completed all assignments & I only got a C+. The homeworks for the lecture were hard. Weren't able to get help from others otherwise it'd mirror the work. Does not round up so if you get 79 it's a C+
Alrighty, I am no good at math, that's why this class is hard for me, BUT! this professor is available outside of working hours for his students. If you have a question you have 20 something ways to reach him and he will respond. I've never had a professor do that before.
He genuinely loves teaching and goes above and beyond to help students. Always offering guidance or support whenever needed. Yes - the course involves a lot of work but that's what we sign up for as college students, right? If you attend lectures, put in the effort and actively engage with classmates and the professor, you will absolutely thrive.
He acts like his resources are Godsent, when in reality nothing is helpful and all he does during class is talk about his personal life and use the slang of a 12 year old. He is a tough grader, with little to no instruction or it's confusing. As a visual learner it was so difficult to do his assignments, and he has so much unnecessary attitude.
The class itself is very intense because of the amount of work you have to turn in. You have labs you have to turn in weekly, sometimes more. There are NO EXAMS and quizzes that are short and straightforward. It's easy to pass if you are putting in an effort to complete the work. He also gives feedback on all lab assignments, which is great.
This teacher is the most difficult person to interact with. Yes, he has all kinds of ways to contact him but it's not worth it because he responds very sarcastically leaving you with more questions and making you feel dumb. Even other professors agree about how he makes his one class equal four classes at once, don't risk your mental health!
Professor Goddard uses distracting backgrounds, costumes, and apparel during his lectures and then dares to quiz you on them as if I am paying to see what strange, ridiculous, and frankly often unprofessional things he does on camera or within his presentation. He is often condescending and demeaning to the students when addressing questions
Just cause he is an online class doesn't mean you have to take him. Pick another professor for your health. This teacher is so high on his horse its ridiculous. Very sarcastic and rude to students, will silence you if you are speaking, quizzes don't make sense, instructions beyond confusing. Even if you follow his instructions he will ding it.
Listen to the bad reviews. The good ones aren't real. Probably one of the most difficult professor I have taken in my entire college years. He makes the labs hard to do solo, as they are super confusing and don't make sense. He will mark it incorrect even if you did it correctly just because he wants it done his exact way. Save yourself a headache.
Took Prof Ellis for 424/L and 497/L. So far best math professor I have ever had. Many people complain bout his labs and hws but he literally gives the sample of the lab that day of the lecture. He also gives a lot of easy extra credit. For the HW you can always do them ahead of time because he already thought how to do it for the labs. My fav class
Don't expect assistance when you ask a question. Don't expect him to keep his word when he grades labs in class vs when returned with comments Expect to be gaslit, expect to be put down, expect to be offended The professor overshares unnecessary and unprofessional personal information
This professor made class more difficult than it should be. He says he's available to help and doesn't recommend using CSUN tutors, yet when you ask him for help he tells you to read the slides which are super confusing. The HWs are long and he doesn't grade on canvas. He also asks for a selfie at the beginning of the semester which is weird.
All the positive reviews sound like they were written by him. This professor is very condescending and rude when you ask him for help, everything the negative reviews say is true. Avoid this professor.
Brought up RMP reviews cuz he didn't agree, accused the class though he had no evidence of who wrote it. Heavy hw. Must pass both lect and lab or fail. Lectures can feel dragged. Simple answers turn into long winded answers. If you have an understanding of research methods and SPSS you'll be ok but if not you will struggle. Condescending replies.
I enjoyed taking his class, even though the subject itself isn't easy. The professor explained everything clearly during lectures and was always willing to help. If you stay committed and do the work, you will pass the class. He also offers extra credit, which is great. Overall, it was a very positive experience
Ellis is an amazing instructor who truly cares about his students. He gives detailed feedback, is always available for help, and makes class engaging and supportive. The material can be challenging, but he goes above and beyond to make sure you understand and succeed. Highly recommend!
I've never had an instructor this passionate about class, supportive of students, & available to help. He'll Zoom anytime, offers tons of extra credit, drops 3 lowest of everything, even rewards criticism. Those who call him condescending expect a PhD to act like a peer, but this guy breaks down hierarchy left & right. Literally the best.
shockingly very enjoyable class and I say shockingly because of all the low rated reviews. You need to show up and do the work but if you're trying you will pass. I personally enjoyed his class, and he goes beyond his way to help his students.
Professor Godard is one of the best professors I have taken. He is funny, easy-going, helpful and extremely accessible. You can text him, email him, zoom him, or contact him in many other ways so you can really understand the subject. He also offers so much extra credit and there are no exams! He is great online. I will definitely take him again!
Professor Godard has the potential to be a good professor if he wasn't so arrogant and rude in his emails or feedback. He doesn't explain things well and can come off so mean for no reason. If you want a professor that is understanding and will work with you throughout the semester…DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This class was difficult for me, especially as English is my third language, but the professor was extremely patient and supportive. He explained everything clearly, helped me many times (even on weekends), and always made himself available. I'm grateful I took his class. I hoped to take the next class with him, but he won't teach it for spring.
I highly recommend this professor. He explains everything very well and truly cares about his students. You can ask any question related to the course and he will always take the time to answer. The class itself is very challenging, but he makes the material easier to understand and does everything he can to help her students succeed.
Math can be intimidating, but his teaching style made complex concepts clear and approachable. He balances theory with practical examples, encourages questions, and genuinely cares about student success.
Good Professor and a really smart guy. Don't skip class and follow along and you will pass
THANK YOU PROFESSOR
He's a knowledgeable professor and really cares about your grade. Though the class itself is a very difficult subject to understand, he tries to make sure that everyone is on the same page. He's accessible outside of class and offers extra credit and would recommend if he's the only one available and ain't looking for exam based classes.
Absolutely loved his teaching style. He is funny and available to reach 24/7. He offers lots of extra credit and allows late work to an extent. The material is quite difficult to learn but if you read the textbook, pay attention, and do the work, you will pass. My only complaint is grading. He gives great feedback but not in a timely manner....
*If you are not fresh out of 424, I would rec a diff prof with better reviews* Pros: enthusiastic, funny, many forms of comm, provides ex cred & points Cons: little review of basic stats. (understandable but
