I had Dr. Price for Molecular Medicine. He makes lectures fun and takes the time to make sure you understand concepts. He is a really good teacher.
Very good teacher. Funny and interesting....class is great.
i think he is a great teacher, i have fun in class and he teachs well. but his test is hard, if you read all your textbook and understand the concepts then you'll do fine.
Great guy... you can tell he really cares about his students doing well, gives curves, and occasionally even gives make up tests... i'd definitely take him again
Dr. Price is an amazing professor and I highly recommend him for any class you can take with him. His tests are hard but his lectures are engaging and interesting. He really cares about his students and is very approachable so make sure to use his office hours. Generous curves, too. He loves biology and he wants you to love it, too.
he's nice and wants you to do well but the vast amount of material to cover makes the class pretty difficult!
Dr. Price is an awesome professor that really strives for his students to actually learn about Biology. His lecture notes are available online and he loves to curve grades on tests. You do, however, have to buy a $50 clicker to take quizzes with during class along with the textbook. I highly recommend Dr. Price.
Great !
I have not had Dr. Price as a Biology teacher, but i'm sure if I did, he'd be just as good a teacher. I currently have him for FYS, and he makes class interesting, and he can be funny sometimes. There has been a few times where class is cancelled, which is awesome, but other than that he's a really great professor & I recommend him any day!!
I absolutely loved this class. I studied hard for the exams and ended up with a 99 in the class. He is clear and his tests are fair. If you study you'll do fine.
Loved this class, Prof Price is awesome! All around great teacher.
Very easy for FYS. Never had him for bio, but he's easy nd helpful. I'd say he's worth taking; there's almost no reading, you're basically just graded on participation and attendance, although I kind of got the vibe that he didn't structure the class very closely, he was just kinda winging it...
Dr. Price is extremely knowledgeable about his filed & the material he instructs, and his passion as well as his interest come through in his lectures as well as his presentation. He does, however, teach the class that is optional for non majors the same as for majors and it makes the intensity a bit overwhelming/intimidating for non majrs.
LOVE Dr. Price. He is a phenomenal professor. He is incredibly knowledgeable and he truly wants everyone to succeed. I would take any class he would teach!
He's so enthusiastic and cute!!
Dr. Price really knows what he is talking about but sometimes has trouble teaching it. Some of the reviews are somewhat helpful. Go to class because you have a quiz almost everyday.
Dr. Price is a very good professor. He knows what he's teaching and teaches it well. But the class isn't easy. You have to read the book and concept questions if you wanna get higher than a C in this class. The only bad part about his class is that it's not that easy.
Dr. Price is not only helpful and provides numerous help options, he truly cares about his students and will make a sincere effort for his students to do well in his class. He is very knowledgeable and experienced. Funny too!! TAKE HIM!
Dr. Price is a great professor. He genuinely cares about his students and their grades. You must go to class though! You will have Small quizzes during lecture... overall, I recommend him!
LOVED THIS CLASS. Dr. Price is amazing and he really cares about what he is teaching. Plus, he is always there to give help if it is needed. Highly recommend. It can get rough if you don't attend the class or read the book, so make sure to be there and read.
Dr. Price enjoys what he teaches. He genuinely wishes for his students to learn and do well, he's a great professor. Although, expect quizzes almost every day and difficult tests. If you do not try you will not do well, so give effort. Also good luck on ever trying to e-mail him, he never answers. All in all an excellent professor.
Awesome prof. Loves what he teaches. Is funny during lecture. Overall, just awesome.
Dr. Price will help with literally anything a student needs. He's always there to help and all he asks is a little effort.
I was a non-traditional student, you should do ok if you read the chapters and study the review questions and the homework! Loved his class! You have to study!!
This class was my favorite class of the year. The professor was AWESOME!! I would definitely recommend this professor to everyone. Don't expect to just get a good grade though. The class is more concept and less content. Go to class, take notes, skim the book, do the homework, and go over the review questions after each chapter, you'll be fine.
Mr.Price is the best Bio teacher. I will definitely try to take him in the future. Come to class, pay attention, and study. You'll have no problem.
Dr. Price is hands down the best teacher I've had at Marshall. He is incredibly passionate about his class, about his students, and is incredibly open and kind if you ever need his assistance. Using your book is a necessity, especially since most of his test questions are straight out of the concept checks. He's a must have for Biology majors!
Dr. Price loves his job and his students, and it shows in his class. He tells you flat out what you need to do to pass the test, and you will do fine if you listen to him. Attendance is a must because each of his lectures are packed with information. But he is a wonderful professor. A funny guy too.
Dr Price explains things very clearly and is willing to help you if you ask. If you read the book and do your homework, you'll pass.
Dr. Price was undoubtedly the best professor I had this semester. His lectures are engaging, funny, and relevant and he always lets you know what his expectations are. He's very understanding and if you go to his office to speak with him he listens with an open mind and open heart. He's a must have for biology majors!
Best professor I've had at here by far. He's so personable and funny, and he incorporates that into his awesome lectures. He goes beyond what's in the text to connect together concepts and help you see the bigger picture. He truly wants to see you succeed, and he's totally there when you need help. I definitely will take him again. TAKE DR. PRICE!!
Dr. Price was great for Molecular. His lectures cover material that is relevant to upper-level academic research, and tangents are not common. We were assigned literature to read, and tests covered lecture and literature material. Overall, I am happy I took this class as an undergrad. It helped a tremendous amount.
Dr. Price is definitely an amazing biology professor. He's very kind and funny and if you actually do what he tells you to do you'll pass the class with no issues. Attending lecture and reading the textbook is essential but it's really not that hard at all! Love the dude!
Elmer Price is perfect for anyone looking for non-major science class. While buying the book and attending class is NOT mandatory, it will help you on the tests (which he generously curves). There are very few grades but it is not difficult to get an A or B if you put in any sort of effort. He's very funny and genuinely wants everyone to succeed.
Dr. Price is a great professor. Is very clear on what to expect. READ THE BOOK! He makes his test questions from the book. Says that multiple times throughout the course. Go to class and listen and you will pass the class. Sometimes allows a cheat sheet on the exams.
Dr. Price was the best teacher I've ever had. All test questions come from online homework, which you just memorize to get A's on the tests . I got C's on most labs and I failed my lab report twice (with 40% F's) and because I got A's on his tests he over ruled the lab teacher because she graded too hard and he gave me an A for the entire class.
Elmer is really funny & helpful. His lectures have a lot of information, so its important to show up to class all though it's not mandatory. I found his tests to be a bit tough but passed with C's. He loves to curve tests & drops the lowest test grade! but you HAVE to pay attention and study!!Not an easy A but not impossible. YOU NEED THE BOOK!!
great for his first time teaching an intro to Human Biology. Dr Price reminds me of like that funny uncle that everyone has. He really tries to get to know you and cares when you don't do very well because he knows you can do better, He honestly just wants you to try your best and pass the class. "Read the friggin' book people!"- J Elmer Price
By far the best professor I've had at Marshall. Lectures are so engaging, and if you put forth an honest effort you should easily get an A. Accessible outside of class and really wants you to learn. Definitely take him if you get the chance.
Dr Price is a great professor and truly wants everyone to exceed. Tests come from the book figures, concept checks, and key concepts. However, he does not give the slides. If you put the work in you can definitely get an A.
Dr. Price is an amazing professor and a great man. He is very forgiving and gives you a chance to redeem yourself if you did not do well on the tests. Be sure to study plenty. Draw the figures and read the book. He really does care and he wants you to learn the material.
Know the vocab/diagrams/key concepts & you'll do fine. Tests are fair for material taught (U DO HAVE TO STUDY SOME THO!) Final exam is repeat Qs from old tests. Overall - LOVED him & wish I could've taken him for more classes.
He is an amazing professor who is very passionate about his job. He really wants you to pass. His tests make you think but if you study hard you should get at least a B.
I wish I could take Dr. Price for every single class I had! He explained things so well, actually cared about the students comprehending all the material, but still pushes you to learn on your own! I easily got an A in the class but it came with learning how to study and learning so much about biology.
Dr. Price is amazing. He's hard, and you WILL have to study for the tests. But he is incredibly intelligent, and caring. He's also surprisingly funny (expect to see multiple science memes). I likely wouldn't have gotten the A that I did had it not been for the pandemic, but I would absolutely take Dr. Price again regardless. I really respect him.
The beginning of the semester I struggled, however, once you get used to how his tests are written you do just fine. I loved having him as my professor and wish I had the opportunity to take him again! Make sure to always take 2-3 sets of notes and attend the SI classes
Elmer is absolutely amazing and cares about each and every one of his students. I got a F on the first test, like most of the class, but he taught us the correct way to study and the test score averages went up. He drops the lowest test and wants to help in any way he can! I would take this man any time again
Dr. Price can be very intimidating at first, especially if you are a non-science major. He uses scare tactics and takes his class very seriously. However, he cares about his students, is very smart, a great teacher, and super funny. Do not expect to breeze through one of his classes, but I'd reccomend him nonetheless. Just read the textbook!
Dr. Price is the best professor I have had at Marshall. He really cares about the students and wants them to do well in the class. YOU WILL HAVE TO STUDY!!! I would recommend starting the chapters before the class starts.
One of the best teachers Ive ever had!
His lectures are dense and you need to take notes on them, his homework is lengthy but worth it, his tests are usually fairly easy if you study
I will give him that he gives good lectures. He knows what he is talking about. However, he so SO RUDE. There wasnt a day that we wasnt just attacking our class about anything. Most of us failed a test because he changed his style and made it ten times harder because he was mad. Very petty personality and definitely holds a grudge.
Unrealistic expectations if you work and go to school. Test questions don't line up with any given study material. The labs have little instruction. Too much to learn in too little time.
Price is rough! He crams as much stuff as possible into his exams and he likes to brag that he makes his exams so hard that only bio majors can get an A even though our class is bio for non bio majors. A lot of people do really poorly on his tests, but thankfully he doesnt use lockdown browser.
This is the worst professor i have ever had. 10/10 do NOT recommend. He told us we would fail in the first week.
Dr. Price is a professor who wants his students to fail. He brags his class average for the past few years was 65%. He grades only by exams and tophat quizzes. His exams have many trick questions, and he claims, "there's no trick question, you're just not reading the question hard enough" HE WANTS TO SEE YOU STRUGGLE AND FAIL! I put in full effort!
Dr. Price was probably one of the most difficult professors I had. He barely answers emails and he's not super helpful when it comes to content. He expected us to know the content when he made it hard. Barely gives grades other than tests that everyone fails. Everyone in my class pretty much failed every test. I don't take if you want to fail.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Price; he is very knowledgeable and passionate about Biology. He will blatantly say what is on the test during the lecture, so pay attention. He is very big on understanding the pictures in the textbook and understanding each step of processes, so study the gritty details.
Dr. Price's class made me drop biology and switch majors entirely. I could not learn anything in his class no matter how hard I tried. From the first day he was so rude and had an awful attitude. Would NOT recommend to anyone. 0/10.
All he does is lecture with TopHat quizzes. Study for 20 hours a week and youre good, but if not, dont even think about it.
Dr. Price's class made me want to jump out of my window. No matter how much effort is put into his class I still barely got a D-. He does not care if you learn. Price claimed that no one in that class would get an A and if you fail the class it is because you are immature and didn't study. He expects us to study 20+ hours weekly, I studied so much!
This man's priority is to brag about he fails students. He doesn't respond to emails. Test are extremely difficult, even if you know and can apply it. You will most likely fail, even if you study 2 hours daily like I did. Everyone I know either fail or barley passed.
Price claimed that his class was to weed out the students in the medical field, which is why he intentionally makes it so hard for anyone to pass. Keep in mind this class is also for non-bio majors. This is an entry-level biology class. Dip your toes in the water, more like submerge and drown you. He said he doesnt care if you fail, itsnot his fault
Dr. Price gave practically a quiz each day about the material you were currently learning or had learned the day before. He could never be reached by email only by office hours and was proud of his low scoring test averages. The test were nowhere similar to the material's studied. I would highly suggest taking this course from another college.
Dr. Price is a super nice guy that obviously wants his students to do well. Tests are hard, but after the first one you get to make a cheat sheet for them. You have to buy tophat. I needed the book to make my cheat sheet.
Dr. Price really was a great professor. He gave the class plenty of opportunities to do well and had a very easy to follow lecture style. Biology is a hard subject but he really tried to make it simpler for the class. He definitely wants to see you do well in the class but you have to put forth the effort for sure
Overall I enjoyed this class, it is a HARD course and if you dont want to put in MANY hours of studying then I wouldnt recommend. Hes a reasonable guy and very intelligent
Professor Price started the class by bragging about how many students fail tests and drop the class. Neither are things to brag about. We were also told to expect to study 20 hours a week, so sorry if you have a job. He has the potential to be an amazing teacher if he would stop believing that the 65 average on tests are only the students fault.
I have never learned more in my life. Dont take this class if you arent willing to sit down and study. Its not easy but if you put in the work, you will be fine. Price is very intelligent and reasonable with grading. Study figures, take notes In lectures. I would 100% take him again because I learned so much.
Dr. Price was a good professor, I was able to learn a lot, however, you will have to work for your grade. For the exams, you NEED TO KNOW the material through and through, and STUDY THE PICTURES. If you do not have time to study for this class, you will fail, so STUDY. READ THE BOOK, it is great reference, especially for learning the pictures.
Dr. Price is very upfront with the way that his class functions but he genuinely wants to see students pass. You WILL need to spend time studying the figures outside of class, or you will fail. If you don't understand the early chapters, you will struggle with the later ones. It's a tough class but teaches you lots of valuable information for later
Hes almost too smart to teach. Hes got personality and I liked him, but had to drop the class from difficulty
I really like this Professor. He likes to see you at the lectures and tries hard to get you to pass. Very good lectures and easy to understand. Tests are hard so study like he says and you should do great.
Hes so rude and the entitlement is there . They way he talks to his students is awful .
Such an amazing guy, I am not one to normally talk with professors after class but he was one I did. Really a down to earth and nice guy, he has a lot of knowledge and knows what he is talking about. The class was hard to a degree but as long as you really study hard and do well on the tests you will do well in the class.
Not the worst professor but not the best. Is 100% not accessible through email and will not respond if you email him. Exams are purposely trick questions that could have multiple answers but you have to think about the question like he did while making the exam. I passed, but only because he made the final worth 60% of my final grade. I would avoid
Dr. Price was a good professor. He was a tough grader but rounded the grades by taking questions out of the exams if many did not get the answer. His final was easier, and you got a cheat sheet. If you don't study, you won't pass. You have to put in many hours every week outside of class to pass this class. Great professor overall.
Dr. Price is an intimidating guy about halfway through the semester, but he opens up to students. Everything he goes over is on the exam. Take notes in lectures and read over the textbook afterwards, and you'll do fine. He makes your final your full grade if it's better than your past 3-4 exam grades and vice versa (at least for my class).
Stay away. Mean guy, that is trying to weed out medical students in their freshman year of college. Test make zero sense and overall makes them difficult to pass. If you do end up taking him. Just keep your head down and focus and you might pass
I personally loved Dr. Price he is very funny and tries his best to help you. He truly just wants you to do your best and gave my class access to study guides and cheat sheets. I took human anatomy last year in high school so this felt like a refresher course but I am sure that If you just study and take notes you will be okay.
His lectures were the perfect combination of academia and humor, and that is what kept me coming back for every single class. The textbook for this class is pretty expensive, but you can 100% pass without it if you come to every.single.lecture. and pay attention! Can be slow to put in grades, and sometimes forgetful when posting material.
He Gave us study guides after the first exam and can make cheat sheets for every exam. 4 tests each worth 25% of your grade which to me was scary but it was hyped up to be harder than it was. If you go to class and take notes this class is good. Elmer is also a funny guy, I enjoyed this class
He's like a fun uncle I think he is underrated.
Do not take this professor if you want to pass. First day of class he showed a bar graph of the grades received in his class and bragged about how no one passed. He's got a vengeance out for students and does NOT want you to do well. His class is supposed to be the basics of bio but he explains things at a med-school level on purpose. AWFUL
He is a good professor. His tests are hard but if you study, you will get a good grade on them. Grades were only tests and some McGraw Hill homework. He did post the PowerPoints late, but other than that I think he was amazing. He made me laugh during lectures and kept me awake during them because of his jokes. SHOW UP TO CLASS TO PASS!
I took him in spring of 21. I withdrew. I took him again in fall of 23. My biggest advice to you- keep pushing. This class will teach you what it means to work hard for a good grade. I respect him. His bad reviews are just people who withdrew. He teaches you endurance in a class.
I am someone with experience in Biology but this class was extremely difficult. His exams are very overcomplicated and make no sense. If you don't do good on the exams you are for sure failing. Brags about the students not passing his class, then says it's our fault? I had no time to study for any other class but his and still did not pass.
Dr. Price is one of the best biology teachers I have had. His class was extremely organized and it was clear what was expected. His lectures are very detailed and the examples he uses help to understand the material a ton. His tests only cover what you go over, so don't worry about not knowing what to expect. I would heavily recommend Dr. Price.
He is an older professor which I think plays into how tough he is not just with his work but in the way he speaks to his students.
He wanted everyone to do good, but wanted you to work for it and know the content. He went over important information many times to make sure you knew the content. Go to class, pay attention and you'll be just fine.
Tries to make his lectures as engaging as possible and he clearly tells you what information is the most important and what areas you need to study the most. He is funny and makes lots of jokes in every lecture (he appreciates it when you laugh.) Do not be scared to visit him during office hours if you need help or want to see missed test questions
Dr. Price was a great professor that wanted the best for his students. Great sense of humor so lectures were interesting. The class is test heavy so be prepared to study, but if you do, you will do good.
Lectures, grades are 4 tests and some homework
I was iffy on taking Dr. Price after seeing all of the bad reviews, but all the other classes were full this semester. I ended up taking him, and I'm glad I did. I actually feel like I learned this semester. This class was challenging, but if you study it won't be an issue.
4 lectures and homework assignments. A lot of studying outside of class. Price is a good and caring professor though; I would take him again if I needed to take another biology course. He will work with you outside of class.
Dr. Price is amazing to say the least. Anyone who gives him a bad review definitely never showed up to class. The class was definitely challenging but if you showed up and took good notes for each lecture and study for the exams at least a good week before, you'll do fine. He's very easy to talk to and will help you improve if you go to his office.
Dr. Price is a good guy. He comes off tough at the beginning, but he just wants you to work for a good grade. He is interested in his students, as long as you take an interest in the class. With all that being said, he is more old school compared to others. There are only a few grades in the class and the tests are pretty standardized.
Dr. Price is a really great, friendly professor. There isn't much he grades off of, but if you come to class and study decently it's not difficult at all. My only complaint is that he is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of through email, so talk to him after class or just show up to his office hours.
The class was excellent overall, but there was one small issue. I didn't receive my grades until after the drop date, which made it take longer than expected to find out my results. If you're interested in science and want to attend great lectures, I highly recommend this class.
Professor Price was funny and a good teacher. He taught difficult concepts well. However, he was impossible to get in contact with. If you need to talk to him, go to him right after class because he doesn't respond to emails. Tests were hard, but pay attention during lectures and read the textbook after to prepare, and you'll be good.
People dog on Dr. Price but do not listen to them. He genuinely cares about his students. He would own it if he made any mistakes on tests. He teaches in the form of telling the material and then giving an example of how it works. He dumbs it down without making you feel stupid. You will have around 4 tests with a couple online homework assignments
If you come to class, you won't have a problem. Elmer is a very considerate professor who truly cares about his students.
Dr. Price is an excellent professor who encourages thoughtful class discussions and explains material clearly. He's supportive, invested in student success, and makes the course both engaging and easy to follow. I highly recommend having him as a professor!
