Dr.Towns,w/o question,is the best in his field. He's passionate about what he does.he wouldn't be if he hadn't written all of those books.I had 2 courses with him in Seminary, and he is truly a Godly man.
Dr. Towns is amazing! An absolutely wonderful professor! So lucky to have him teaching here!!!
Prof. Towns is awesome! The best part of his class is listening to his stories of where he has traveled.
This man knows his Bible and teaches it with clarity and in a real world context. Amazing teacher and man.
needs to learn that he's not teaching kindergarteners. we can go a little deeper!
Towns is a cool little guy. He tends to talk about sex a lot tho- but its funny- nothing inappropriate.
Who in the hell is reviewing here? Dr. Towns sucks! Don't take him for anything because you don't learn crap in his classes! His books suck. He allegorizes scripture. Lol...i won Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough...bullpoo is what it is.
For distance learning--Dr. Towns indeed is guilty of allegorizing in his lectures and textbooks. I remember him stating the window in Noah's ark was a reference to the Christian's prayer life! If you believe in literal interpretation, WATCH OUT!!
He got on my nerves. He tells boring tales. Then repeats them over and over. He goes through notes too fast because he tells too many stories and loses time. He makes stupid comments about romantic relationships and flirting. Painful.
He should open his eyes when he talks. The class is okay, he just really gets sidetracked and talks about God knows what.. ("i once urinated on this fig tree here in this part of israel!")... he definitely knows the content, but he is 72...
Class was ok. Towns does get sidetracked though.
He's the sweetest professor. It's an easy class. Dr. Town's is very knowledgable on the subject. I definitely recommend him for BIble 110 and even for Theology.
I think I'm more confused about Theology than I was before I attended the class. I got more out of the discusion groups than I did with the lecture. If you have perfect attendence more than likely you will get an A. Storys are repeated, and I can't wait to finish 202...
great teacher, very easy class...planning to take again for THEO 202
Dr. Towns loves to tell stories in his lectures. He keeps me interested, but I find that I'd rather hear his stories than hear him teach. He also has an interesting accent that is fun to immitate. He seems to be caught up more in the facts rather than the spiritual, but good teacher! I recommend him!
dirty old man
Cute little old man. But I don't recomend him if you want to learn. If you don't care and want an easy A, then take him.
He was not their alot... but his helpers were cool... tells alot of stories but is really sweet
Elmer Towns is a cute old man! He is very Godly and smart. However, I didn't care for him as a teacher. I fell asleep in his class and ended up failing. It was mostly my fault, but for some reason everytime I see him I think "He gave me an F" lol
Towns is the man!!! He was very helpful!! He always talks about where he has been! He's really interesting!!
The man has more to say than anybody ever. He can tell stories for 8 hrs a day and then turn around and preach that evening. Author of over 120 books...that is amazing.
Dr. Towns is amazing
Dr. Towns is a great teacher. Fun class. I'm glad to have had him as a professor. He is easy to talk to and really seems interested the few times I talked to him.
Great professor!
I personally don't like him as a teacher or speaker at all for that matter. He's boring and made me uninterested in the new testament. The best classes were when he wasn't there and his assistant Adam taught, that's when i learned the most.
Towns is sweet and obviously knows a lot about the Bible and its history. But the class was soooo boring and the quizzes were on the most random and irrelevant stuff. It's pretty easy tho, if you can manage to sit thru it the whole year.
Dr. Towns is a pretty cool teacher, but incredibly boring. I liked it when Adam taught, but other than that, I usually didn't come. And someone needs to explain to him that Moses didn't hang on the cross.
Nice, sweet, good teacher, quizzes were confusing, though, not relevant to the lessons, definitely 100% better than when Adam taught it, considering Adam's the biggest jerk I've ever seen
Dr. Towns has great wisdom. It was a privilege to sit under his instruction

Open Book quizzes. Knows the bible real well. very interesting class
a very great teacher. if u take new testment u should really get him!
Hey Gang... look at letter 2 number A... my favorite pie is cake!
I took the DLP course and it seemed that all he said was "verily, verily". He also talked about himself and his accomplishments a great deal. Well, pretty much every video tape, at least 5 minutes was devoted to himself. Easy class though.
He's very intelligent, but he advertises his books WAAAAY too much during class!!!!! (at least on the DLP videos)
Take this guy for BIBL 110! He is a great professor, he is also really funny. Knows a lot about the bible, and is interesting.
Dr. Towns is so awesome! He is just so cute and smart, you can't help but love him.
Sometimes funny, but overall not the most interesting person to listen to. His attendance policy is crap for NT. He gives quizzes almost every class period, so if you miss just a few times it can really hurt your grade since there are no tests. Show up for class and do the work book and there should be no problems. Alternately, take another prof.
open book quizzes, no tests...just go to class and you'll do fine
how can you say anything negative about the towns, he too old not be be cool as hell
The class can get kind of boring after a while. But, there are NO TESTS in this class and the quizes are fairly simple. Assigned seating, though.
I love elmer towns!!! He is the cutest old man ever, and really interesting.
If you are a lazy bum who wants to do no work and get an A for it, Towns is the teacher for you. I hated this class. Yes I got an A. We all got A's. Yet we all learned NOTHING! He is boring and self absorbed. If you really want to learn about God and the Bible, take Leverett.
Towns is a really cool old guy, always calls the class "gang" and says "number B". He's fun, but gets really boring after a few classes. I don't agree with many of his theories, which he presents as absolute truths. Far too easy to get an "A" in, just show up and take his quizzes. Self-absorbed in some ways, but a man of vision. Learned nothing
Elmer Towns...wow! I absolutely LOVE this guy. Some people may find this man rather on the borning side, but if you pay attention to him you will surely learn a lot. He has got to be one of the smartest teachers at Liberty. I wish that everyone could take his class.
I highly respect Dr. Towns. He is truly a man of God. Being in a high position I know he gets very busy, but he's probably actually there to lecture about half the time. I feel if you are so busy you won't be there half the time, why teach it? I'm glad I took Towns, but I wish he were in class more. Other than this, I like everything about it.
Agreeing with the person before...he should teach the class more. His poor Grad Assistant gets too little warning that he'll teach instead. however, I think the cancer slowed him down, so I wont complain. Overall..good class. Listen to Dr. Towns and you'll catch the HEART of the Bible instead of merely dry facts.
Whoever dissed Towns is a loser! He is the best teacher on earth!! I had him for 3 classes and I learned so much that I can't contain it! I am humbled by this man of God! Rock on Dr.Towns!!!
I absolutely LOVE Elmer Towns. He's great!
I love Towns. He is the best teacher. If you say you didn't learn anything in this class, it is because you were not there or didn't listen. He has a wealth of knowledge. He is a wonderful guy and teacher. Take his class if you can. He is the best!
here's the thing about towns... he's an old man. he's funny as all get out (mostly because he's an old man), and he knows the Bible like no one else i know... but he's a crazy old man. i respect and adore him- he's just... i dunno- take his class so you'll get the jokes in Christmas convo... that's all...
he's knows everything about the Bible, no matter what Jerry says.
Easy on work but very hard on skips!
not good
towns seriously rocks my world. the man is funny, knowledgable, and utterly amazing in general. just show him the respect he deserves. libety would not be the same without him.
Towns is awesome. He knows a lot about the Bible plus he tells funny stories, sings, dances, and makes a map of Israel on his hand. His class is very entertaining and interesting and you learn alot.
Excellent teacher and a very interesting man to listen to. Love him !!
cake class, just don't expect to learn anything, if you wanna hear the townes edited verson of the bible: FYI Jesus didn't make wine, he made grape juce (yep Jesus's 1st mirical was jucy juce grape juce from concentrate :-p)
This man seems to be entirely clueless about the Bible. I had taken BIBL 105 with Hindson and was hoping to have the same amazing instruction in this course as in that one, but Towns is truly without knowledge! He is boring, rambles, doesn't make sense, and does nothing other than read the notebook to you (which you bought for yourself).
AWESOME, HE IS THE BEST!!!
Dr. Towns is a very good teacher, he takes pride in what he does. He knows a lot about Jesus, and the Holy Land. I think he might of been there at "The Last Supper" His class is easy, and not a lot of work, just open Bible quizzes.
Towns is an extremely caring professor, and he makes the subject matter interesting. I really enjoyed his class, and plan to take my other theology class with him.
Dr. Towns is EASY and FUNNY. I did fall asleep a few times, though. And for those who say he's not smart...do they have all the theology and religion doctorates that he has? Have they written scores of books on the Bible? Doubtful. If you want to learn, you will, otherwise it will be an easy class that takes little effort.
Rather boring at times but its a pretty decent class, and he definitely does have a lot of knowledge on the topic, I don't know what that other person was talking about.
Truly an amazing individual...I cannot comprehend how anyone can not like this man.
Elmer Towns is an interesting, intelligent and a man of his word! When he teaches, everyone listens because his classes are so amazing and he's very knowledgable and can make the Bible so much fun.... Great job!!
Great teacher, if a little dry. Definitely worth taking, though, cause he's a living legend. Get a chance, take Towns. You won't regret it.
Absolutely GREAT professor. He has an amazing mind, completely full of wisdom and many great stories. He lectures, but it a comfortable and not dry way. He relates to the students awesomely. If you do the work, you do great. He's just a very busy man with all of his commitments, so sometimes he misses a lot of classes [and I missed him :( ]
Dr. Towns is adorable. His new testament survey class is really easy and he has great pictures and stories to help the time go by fast.
His work/book studying the Gospel of John is terrific.
I took the course through distance learning and Town's was great! He talked a bit slow for me but I watched the video on 2x speed and it was grrr8! Neat stories, neat guy, good material. Don't let it just get stuck in your head, let it sink down to your heart.

Class was a lot of fun. I leared so much about the Old Testament. If Dr. Towns taught every class, I would take them all!
Dr. Towns is absolutely adorable and I loved his class. It's pretty easy because there are no tests and he is interesting even at 7:50.. However, if you have trouble getting up, don't take it because a largge part of your grade is based on quizzes and attendance. I loved his class though!
Took Towns for new testament. Not that great. He was OK, but not at all worth a 7:50 class. Rushed the materials, never explained much, constantly going off on pointless tangents. He's funny though, just not worth a 7:50. GA's were cool though.
He speaks with amazing clarity about the Bible and his zeal for teaching and God combined make him a very engaging speaker and teacher.
FOR DLP** Just in case you dont catch it in the dvd's his name is Elmer Towns. He's been here, he's done that, and just in case you cant read the textbook, dont worry he will read it for you..And dont forget to buy his books that he spends to much time trying to promote!!!
Perhaps the most genuine, loving professor at LU. If you've got issues with Elmer, I've got issues with you. And I'm a Marine, so I don't recommend it.
I had Dr. Towns for BIBL 323: The Gospel of John DLP (He was the professor on the DVDs). He is the cutest professor ever, and so spirit-filled. I just wanted to give him a hug! I learned a lot from this course and would LOVE to take another class of his!
such a cute old man. He is very knowledgable and has a lot of good things to say. Tells lots of stories. Have a quiz (normally open book) ever class but no tests.
Dr. Towns is an awesome teacher! I had him for a 7:40 class and he always tried to liven things up by telling funny stories and showing pictures. He's very straightforward. Notes were fill in the blank, there's usually a quiz every class but don't worry they are almost ALWAYS open book. Definitely take him!! Easiest class ever.
Easy A. His quizzes are messed up and asks for random information. You can tell the man is full of wisdom, but i find to doze off because he goes off on trails. I would take him every time becuz hes really easy but its not a very useful class.
He is good, he gets off topic a lot. His powerpoints are very detailed, and can get boring when you have him at 7:40.
he is very boring...he has a lot of wisdom, he just doesnt deliver it very well. he is just taken for a prof now because of his name, he really is that good of a teacher...
Dr. Town's is a nice guy, didn't like his class too much though. His quizzes are filled with stupid questions and obscure facts, some of which aren't in the Bible.I also had to email his GA's a few times to fix my grades cause they entered them on blackboard incorrectly.this is the only class i got a B in 89.75% he doesnt round.there's assignedseats2
His class is an easy A. You don't really even have to try that much. I even forgot some of the assignments! Anyway, you should also go to his Sunday school class for extra credit, one point for each one and it's unlimited. He says a lot of cute little things that will make you smile.
Very easy professor and the class takes little to no outside work. However, I wouldn't look to this man for any spiritual wisdom even though many do. Be discerning and look to the word as the ultimate authority, not his explanations. Do not always take his word for it.
The class was really tedious and boring, and Dr. Towns at least tried to keep it interesting, but he kind of makes some foot-in-mouth comments occasionally, and gets off topic A LOT
It's Elmer Towns! Of course he's brilliant; it seems like he knows everything about the Bible. He definitely keeps things interesting w/a bunch of little facts you might not have ever thought of, plus he's been to almost all of the places he talks about in relation to the Bible. I would recommend him; you'll learn a lot.
Elmer Towns is easily the greatest and dirtiest old man on campus. If I was given the opportunity to hang out with him for a day I would. His class is very easy if you go.... I didn't so i got a bad grade, but still he is the best teacher ever, and how can none of you think he's hott how dare you!!!!!
Yuck. What a let-down! Loved OT last sem. w/Hartman, but this was the limit. Inappropriate, dirty jokes in Bible on a Christian campus & by the Dean, no less! VERY dull class; not very insightful. Redundant stories. Lots of essays, unfair grading (and I'm a 4.0). Take him if you don't like to think for yourself and just swallow bare facts.
You will learn a lot if you pay attention. I thought he did very well at teaching the topic. Easiest A I've ever had.
This is a very easy yet awful class. I love reading the Bible, but this class was so boring. Towns just told dirty jokes the whole time and talked about how great he was..like always. Quizes are given every class, but are usually open book. Easy A! But for your sake and sanity dont take him.
Umm...It`s an easy A but ..well.. its an easy A I`ll just leave it at that.
Towns is a great guy and does a good job expressing his views. However, thats about all he does. I took this into to theology class and instead of discussing or introducing all of these theological doctrines, Towns just spent the whole time spouting his personal views. I'm a calvinist and his treatment of my beliefs were rather harse.
My favorite Professor and Theologian of all time!
Quizzes are open book/open notes (mostly). I think the quizzes were more difficult than in 201. I enjoyed the class just as I did in 201.
Makes subject interesting. Quizzes can be confusing.
Decent teacher. He definitely knows what he is talking about, but he seems confused a lot. Many times there are tangents in the lecture. It is hard to stay awake sometimes. Makes some random...somewhat scandalous comments.
It's Dr. Towns. Nuf said :D
You need to quit being disrespectful towards a man of God. Further, your swearing is not what a Liberty student is supposed to represent. You will reap what you sow, sonny boy. If it wasn't for Dr. Towns you wouldn't have a place to go to school. That being said, Towns has the best class in the world. He's a great man of God and I learned lots
Dr. Towns class is an interesting one. There is usually a quiz every class but its openbook. It does help to read BEFORE you come to class. It makes the quizzes easier. Some of the quizzes were tricky. Even the final exam is open book, but a lot of trick questions. I think they should revise the exam. I did not learn anything. But take him.
One of the most genuine and loving Christians at LU. A truly great man of God whom I count it a blessing to have been able to take his class. Many stories but valuable. Ask him how many classes he teached without pay as well. Great man of God. God Bless you Dr. Towns.
Took him last semester and taking him again! You can't go to LU and not take Towns at least once! He's incredible! You never know what he is going to do or say. Final was hard, but doesnt really effect your grade that much. Take the quizzes and you'll be fine! He's awesome!
I love Towns! He is so much fun in the classroom and definitely ties in the lesson with real-world applications.
Dr. Towns is a really knowledgeable man. He makes class interesting, yet its kind of slow. This is a class you don't really want to take for a long period of time, or when your tired. It would make a perfect midday class. The only thing that worries me is that the semester has 1 month left and we have yet to have an exam...Yikes!
This class is definitely easy, and it doesn't take very much work. You just do the fill-in-the-blanks during class, and sometimes you read a chapter. It's usually pretty boring, but sometimes Dr. Towns does/says funny things that make the class real entertaining. It's a pretty boring class, but it's easy and can be interesting.
I'm not religious, but LUO is reputable enough to put up with these quack religion classes. This guys quiz questions are like anecdotal reflections of his religious though process. Ex;, "What did I say is the nature of reality in your textbook that I wrote?" I'm always thinking, Can't we just stick to what your brand of religion thinks are facts.
I look for prof.s who actually teach and not just an easy A. I was EXTREMELY dissappointed with this class. I have been saved for 3 years and was really looking forward to learning about NT and I haven't learnd ONE thing! =( I read my book to teach myself! Towns is all over the place and basically just teachs his opinion. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR $!
He is a good teacher but his GA's are freaking pricks, especially the head GA, he is so full of himself. It is a fairly easy class but make sure you read for the quizzes. If you actually wanna learn stuff from the Bible, I don't recommend this class. :)
Towns is a great teacher. He is hilarious and obviously knows a lot about the Bible. I wish I knew him personally. The only problem is class get get boring sometimes because of its length.
Dr. Towns is a living legend. You need to take him at least once. His BIBL 110 class is really easy. No tests, just one quiz per class. Quizzes aren't bad, just do the reading and you'll be fine. The best thing is that class gets out early almost every time!
He gets sidetracked and tends to ramble, but he is very easy and very nice. Your only grades are easy quizes.
Dr. Towns is an interesting and funny professor. He is 82 and has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He can go off on tangents at times, but he knows his New Testament and makes his lectures intriguing.
Dr. Towns is a surprisingly open-minded professor and lecturer of theology. He lets you know his opinions but clearly distinguishes between what the Bible says on the matter and what he believes. Overall, a knowledgeable and entertaining lecturer.
His class is very boring, everyone is on the internet the whole time. I did not learn anything all semester. His quizzes are wicked easy but the final is awful.. almost impossible to pass the final. Overall, the class is a major waste of time and only take if you need the credits
Dr. Towns is a lot of fun to listen to, and interesting! My husband and I took the online course, and we looked forward to his taped lectures. Very knowledgeable. The class is easy IF you read and do the study guides, which is nice. Instead of being overwhelmed with pressure and assignments, you can actually ENJOY your learning! :)
not a hard class. Do well on quizes and you'll have an A. Sometimes he tells stories or says stuff that have absolutely nothing to do with class but they can be entertaining at times
Towns is a legend. He is the stuff of greatness.
This class is easy. I took it more to experience the legend that is towns.
Dr. Towns is amazing. 3 years later, his class is still the best I have ever taken. This man is a legend.
Easy class. No tests except for the final exam. Quizzes every class, but alot of them are open book. Towns is funny but sometimes the things he says are just ridiculous. If you want an A take him...if you want to learn, then do not
Towns is an easy A. the quizzes are straight from the book, even from the lectures. He says ALOT of questionable things and goes on some rants... completely irrelevant but entertaining. To get the full Liberty experience, TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!!
Towns is awesome. You need to take him for at least one class to get the full "Liberty Experience." I have him for both New Testament Survey and Theology and I don't regret it at all. Missing class hurts your grade so attend and I definitely recommend!
Dr. Towns is a great teacher is really a big part of the history of Fundamentalism in the 20th Century. A great role model and mentor.
The worst teacher I have ever heard ever in my life. His tangents about the books he's written and we should buy, the mandatory overpriced textbook written by yours truly. I learned nothing, a waste of money and time. The test are more of a trick than an assessment, easy "A" but my gosh could there be a worse teacher out there? Don't think so
Great teacher, and funny to listen to! Sometimes he can go off track, but he has some interesting stories! Pretty easy too, as long as you do your reading.
Good man. Not super academic but wise and gracious!
I'm at Liberty and have taken a few classes taught by Dr. Towns. I do not question his love for God or commitment to Christ. I do, however, have issue with contradictions I've caught from class to class out of his mouth. In contacting them, with the proof, I was told, he is the co-founder and what he says is what he says.
He is a greatest teacher and I was truly blessed to have the opportunity to be taught by him.
Not a fan. A nice gentleman. If you do the reading, & pay attention, you'll get an A. The course was obviously delivered through a fundamentalist lens. He rants about points of view he dislikes without giving solid Scriptural/Theological support to his arguments; ill suited in a course on Theology. Also his books as text? No thank you.
Experience counts. The man co-founded the University. He is in his 80's and STILL travels the world delivering sermons. I found his sermons more enjoyable than class lectures, class lectures feel like more of a conversation where his own opinions and thoughts are shared. He has written over 50 books! I have his Prayer Bible. love it.
