Show up for every class and you will pass. She is from Russia, and has some interesting stories about living there. I would recommend her to anyone.
Always came to class prepared and organized. I can't say that for half the teachers I've had! I can see her passion for Astronomy when she teaches. She not only taught from the book but threw in some really cool fun facts to add more interest. Highly recommended teacher. I LOVE her accent too!
She is a great teacher with a nice russian accent. One thing I didn't like was that she didn't tell the noisy students to be quiet, otherwise it was a good class. Just read the study guides and you should get an A.
This class is so damn fun, which is something I didn't expect. It's because of the teacher! She is awesome, and really obviously loves Astronomy.
Russian accent could be hard to understand at first, but easily adaptable. Just read and study and you will do fine.
Her accent takes a bit of getting used to, but I found that it forced me to pay attention a bit more, so it worked out. Very interesting class and the professor was very willing to help every student with any questions they had.
UNORGANIZED: Began giving HW, then stopped collecting them without notice. UNORTHODOX: Teaches new material in beginning of class right before exam=limited test time. Notes given in class have nothing to do with exam ?'s. EXAMS: 5 exams, 1 final. Exams are 10 questions, will take off serious points if missing 1 step. ATTENDANCE: About 15% of grade.
Should not be teaching this class.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take this class if you want to learn any math or get a decent grade. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!
the worst teacher you can ever have. this class was hell. you will regret taking this class. trust me.
Very strong Russian accent. No homework, hope your a good test taker. She gives you good study guides for tests. Take advantage of the extra credits. She uses every second of class time.
The first day she just started writing and expected you to know the simple steps but when you have not taken math in years how should you remember those steps. She is Russian so her accent is really hard to understand and with math that does not mix well.
great prof
She is a great teacher, I think. Always available and replied to emails quickly. She just went through the book and did the section problems and if you have questions then ask and she would explain. SHe does have an accent, but it added character to the class. I would reccomend her!
She was a very hard teacher to understand becuase of her accent. But she was always willing to help the students if any one had questions. She is very good with the students. Always willing to help. Doesn't go by the book with the way the book teaches, her teachings are much easier. Good teacher!
O MY GOD... DO NOT TAKE FOR CALC!!! Teaches the theory, and that's it! Would not answer questions, told me to see her after class for questions. SUPER FAST AND HARD TO UNDERSTAND. AVOID HER LIKE THE PLAGUE, worst instructor I've ever had at BCC. You'd be better learning clac from a jar of mayo.
This woman is highly educated and used to teach at a medical academy. Very knowledgeable. Only thing to worry about: she lacks in teaching the "why"s about math (like proving theories) and focuses more on how to do it. I only recommend her if you are interested in math or if you are a diligent student.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had!I can get past the horrible accent, but I cannot get past her ways of teaching and her attitude. The worst grade I have ever gotten in math was a B,until I found myself in her class!I strongly recommend avoiding her class! She has taken something that I have always found easy to learn and made it difficult!
I LOVED her. She was funny and smart, and I thought she did a great job teaching. I took her for College Algebra as a buffer course, and she was great. She was fast-paced and willing to help you during office hours if you needed it. Her accent was just apart of her charm! I got a 106% in her class.
I took a summer class, she is a good teacher.Do not miss a class u will get lost. Russian lady, she is fair.
I took her during the summer for Inter Algebra and was terrified because math is my worst subjecct. I was told not to take her, but I am glad. If you show up for class, pay attention to her lectures, and do the assigned homework, you are guranteed success in her class. I received a B in her class and plan on taking her in the fall term. She cares!!
had her for math over the summer. get passed the accent, bam. then just pay attention. suprisingly i learned alot and got the highest grade in the class.
Dr. Y is a fabulous teacher. Although math is by far my worst subject, she made it easier for me to understand. People take her passion for teaching her subject in a negative view, which is an injustice. Dr. Y is a warm, caring person who will do whatever she can to help you succeed in her class.
This was an online course. She was very helpful. I had to email many times during the course and I heard back from her in 24 hours or less. Math has always been my most difficult subject but I managed to get a B by doing all homework until 100%. Use the option to copy the homework examples to help when you take the tests and quizes! It is a lot of
Dr. Y was a great teacher to me. she is very helpful, and is always there to make sure you understand. i was so impressed im taking her for college alg. :]
Great teacher, shaped life forever, instrumental in introducing me to my fiancee. Clear, helpful, and rad.
She gives good lectures but sometimes when she gives tests there are things on it that she never talked about. I wouldnt take her again.
Great math teacher! She puts all her lecture notes online, which are surprisingly very easy to follow. So, you can grasp the concepts at your own leisure. Didn't grade HW in my class, but if you did it you got extra credit on the next test. Tests will make or break you for the most part. There's no way to fail them if you use all ur resources.
DR.Y IS NOTHING SHORT OF AWESOME! she feels that her accent is thick ( its not she can be understood clearly ) so she slows down and makes sure she is extra clear, gives extra credit , help whenever you need , and is always an encouragement even if you are struggling i passed int alg and collg alg with her with a strong B i have to take stats now a
Horrible teacher!!!!!!! Take another math teacher. Hardest class I took at BCC & I am really good at math. It was the first C I have ever gotten. MY whole class had another teacher and he left and we got her, all of our grades plummetted. Class average on final was in the thirties.
Calc 2- The most unprofessional teacher I've encountered. She changed the homework and added a group assignment to an online class with 1 week left. Dropped most students a letter grade. Responds to emails in childish manner. Had a 4.0 until Dr. Y. Take someone else. Its difficult with a good teacher but terrible with her.
Excellent Calc 2 teacher. Really like her grading style. She puts bonus problems on tests that are worth 10 pts each (usually 10-12 question tests). Has short quizzes once in awhile, and doesn't grade HW (so you have to be responsible!) She is great at explaining things one on one, so if you need help go to her office hours.
Love this teacher. She is very detailed when explaining how to solve a problem. Gives you the formulas to use and lets you know when you will be tested on them. She is always willing to take the extra time to help. Great e-mail communication, gets back to you immediately.
Dr. Y is a highly intelligent professor. She expects you to show up and do the work. She is also compassionate and really cares about her students success. I am happy to have taken her class. I have the highest regard for this professor
Dr. Y is an excellent instructor. She really cares that her students learn the material and pass the course. The class is challenging and effort is required.
WORST TEACHER EVER. She knows her stuff, but is terrible at teaching it to others. Your final grade is mainly based on if you pass the tests. When I was struggling, I went to ask her for help. She didn't offer any, but instead told me to take high school algebra instead. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS INSTRUCTOR!!
Calc 2 online with Yakutova-Lorentz is VERY time intensive. She is a good professor and all but the course itself is very difficult. I would recommend it but make sure you have at least 2 hours a day to devote to learning and absorbing this material. One out of two students who sign up for Calc 2, do not pass. Prep yourself! Its a long ride.
Dr Y is very kind. She is compassionate and really cares about her students, She always gives encouragement when you are struggling. She will make accommodations to meet with you on your schedule. She is hard but fair and she is really a beautiful woman inside and out.
Dr Y is great. She is willing to work with you if you are willing to work. The material is hard, but she is understanding - and works with you. We were aloud a formula sheet which was great. I also had some issues come up and she worked with me on those also. Your grade does depend on tests, so if you are bad at them she may not be for you.
Dr.Y's class was very hard for me, she has an accent but that wasn't the problem at all. It seems like her tests were way harder than the homework and practice tests. I had to drop her class because of this because i would study hard and still do poorly on the tests. I wouldn't recommend taking her unless you're very strong in math.
She's a nice person overall but the tests are pretty hard. Sadly, 60% of your grade is based on tests, only 20% are quizzes and homework. 20% for final. The way she posts grades aren't very favorable. She posts test grades on Angel then lets MyMathLab average the rest. So you basically don't know your average till the very end of the course.
There are two tests and the final, which comprise of 65% of the grade, so if you're a poor test-taker, avoid this professor. The Canvas software really limits the interaction here, so be prepared to learn completely on your own. Tests are NOTHING like the reviews, this is not like any math class you've taken online before.
I failed Calc 1 two times and passed the third. I got a 75 in her Calc 2 class. The online component is everything. If you really sit down and try you will learn what you need to know and it counts as part of your grade. Don't miss class. Her pretests are not like her tests. She expects you to study 10 hours a week and I did. Also, I cried a lot.
She has a very harsh accent and is extremely difficult to understand. Also she teaches at a fast pace so you better be prepared to keep up. I would not recommend taking this professor if math is a difficult subject for you.
I was a 4.0 student, finished Calc 1 with a 96 total and aced the final. I finished Dr Y's online Calc 2 class with a 78. She must upload custom test questions because you will not see them in homework, quizzes, book, or the study plan. My physics lab partners took her in person and did well. She seems nice through email, not a good online teacher.
Yakutova is a terrible teacher because she never offers help when your grades are f's.
She took over our class for the last couple weeks and was very understanding. Granted she is a tough grader but as long as you study until you understand and know how to do the practice tests and know how to do the reverse of the examples you should be fine.
Took it online. It ended up being a very time consuming class. However, even though the work is long and tedious, it isn't overwhelming and is definitely doable if you just devote the time. The step by step examples in MathLab really clarified the material for me. Expect each assignment/quiz to take a few hours. Review often and you'll do fine.
Calc 2 Online. One of the best online math teachers I've taken. VERY clear on what to expect from tests. She throws no curve balls, if you do the homework and study then you will do fine, but you MUST put in the effort to learn. Many students dropped out this semester but they simply did not know how to learn or study, not the teachers fault.
I passed this class, but I would NEVER take it again. Please if you're wise just take another teacher. The online component makes it very hard and the exam is just the absolute worst. Many people dropped and I almost did. Please take another teacher!
This is the worst teacher I've had. She grades super hard and does not want to help you when you ask for help she just tells you to do the homework. She goes over 5 sections in one class time, at her own speed. Do not miss class or your screwed. Her accent is very hard to understand. DO NOT take this teacher. Take a different teacher if possible!!
Professor Y definitely knows her stuff. However, I took this class online over the summer and felt that the provided resources are lacking. Class is passable, but you have to put in work.
Gives insane amounts of extra credit, but you are only graded on four tests, HW, and Final. But you can get up to 15 points extra credit per test, so that's great! Gives printable notes, to fill in with her in class. She explains information very very well too. HW is online, can be a lot, but it's easy because you have it all on your notes.
She sometimes is very strict in grading if it isn't in the way she likes it. Make sure to show ALL your work; she counts points off your test if you don't show ALL your work. Overall, pretty easy class though. Show up, take notes and do some math, then do some homework. The homework isn't too hard on MyMathLab. Beware her strong Russian accent.
took calc 2 online, in the summer, with two bored kids at home. Worked my butt off for my A - and I learned a ton from it. She challenges you by making up her own test problems, and she also reviews your actual work. So if you just want an easy A Prof, go elsewhere. If you want to learn and not make a fool of yourself in STEM, go to Dr. Y.
she was so good it was an easy math class. she lets you get up on the board to work out the problems.
Dr. Y is a capable and intelligent professor. She, however, is a brutal grader and tester. If you have anything in your life other than her class you are setting yourself up to fail here. I took her Calc II class with a 3-6-month-old baby and just could not keep up with the course load.
Aside from her thick Russian accent, she is a very good instructor for teaching math. All of the test material and homework is online and accessible at any time.
She's a capable teacher and i have much respect for her. I took Intermediate Algebra and I won't be taking any more with her. She's a tough grader and if you don't show work properly, you get points off. She does provide her lessons online which helps but she isn't the best at explaining things. Also don't miss her classes, ever.
The amount of work you would have to do will deive you crazy. If you dont have anything else to do but hw for 40 hr a week take her.
I got D and my GPS went down. I did not learn anything from her. Very tough grader! I believed 5 student out of 9 failed! Stay away from her if you can! You have big chance to fail!
Had her for intermediate algebra. had some unfortunate things come up and was not very considerate. goes way too fast, assigns a boatload of homework, tests are BRUTAL. if you don't show your work like how she taught you, its wrong or you get points off.. if you're good at math go for it, if not stay clear. her accent is strong too.
Hard tests, have to show work on problems, online notes do not have enough content, teaches to fast, doesn't use real world examples, strong accent, grades are based on tests, 4 tests, and lots of homework, grades weighted 60% tests and 20% HW, do not miss a class or you fall way behind, and final exam on everything, take other professors.
Not organized with grade book and My Math Lab, one always has a different due date than the other (very misleading). Tests are extremely hard to pass. She gives so much homework, and only 3-4 tests, yet tests are worth 60% and homework is only 20%. So basically if your like me, and you failed both tests, homework wont make a difference.
Dr. Yakutova is, hands down, the most competent and effective math professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Many people have said she is a hard grader, or she has a terrible accent, or she gives too much homework. I have personally passed her class, MAT 1033, with a final grade of 97%, and I skipped the third test!
Dr. Y was one of the best math teacher I have had. Her class was on mymathlab which I loved! So easy to follow the examples on the videos and do your assignments. She was very fair with grading discussions and allowed you to submit 2 mistakes from tests! 2 proctored exams, 2 home exam and a final (all had study guides identical to exams).
This class was taken online and while I have taken a few math courses online prior this was by far the worst. The teacher had very poor communication and wasn't helpful when I reached out. The majority of tests were proctored and it is 80% of your grade. Be aware if you are not good at math like I am you will struggle.
she doesnt know how to explain and also goes so fast that you cannot understand what its she saying
She knows what shes doing but does not know how to explain it to students in a way that they will understand. Her Russian accent is extremely heavy. She also moves way too fast through the lectures.
The teacher goes through the material very fast. If you arent good at math do not take the course with this teacher. She is very nice but is strict with grading and her test are weighted a lot. So if you dont do well on them then you will most likely fail the course.
This teacher is a hard grader. People stated she has a heavy accent, too much homework and heavy grading on test. All accurate. There's mention of extra credit, but that wasn't applied to this class. She makes her test a high percentage of the grade and so if you fail it, you will not likely redeem yourself. Make sure to show all work btw.
Terrible professor. Heavy accent, sort of confusing. Sped through material despite being a full semester. Didn't review previous concepts. Tests are 3 chapters in one. Pop Quiz every other class. Lectures are videos of someone from online textbook, not her. Class time split working in groups, then on worksheets. Basically taught an online class.
On her tests you can't leave the current question you are on or it automatically fails that question. Extremely unreasonable and it's VERY clear she does not give an ounce of a care about the students. Gives off the "My class is the only thing that matters in your life" ego vibe. Avoid her like a plague.
Dr. Y was a nice person, but as far as teaching, there wasn't much of it. Our class used MyMath Lab. She did have lecture videos, but I never watched them. Taking notes is a must. The tests were a challenge because I rarely finished, and there is too much material to remember. I did sign up for taking trig and precalc in one semester. Way too much.
Do not take this woman's class AT ALL. I had an A before I took her exam, and I had an F after. The two exams are weighted so heavily on your grade the homework doesn't even make a difference on your grade. She teaches nothing, and the homework problems suck. Nowhere online except paid services like Chegg have examples of how to do the work.
hard to understand , strict grading, worst class I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
TERRIBLE TEACHER! I had so many problems with this woman and Im usually an A student. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. First of all, all of her tests are cumulative and the reviews do NOT reflect the tests. Secondunlike all other math professors Ive hadshe does not have you hand in your test paper so you have no clue what you did wrong or what questions
This is an extremely difficult class, mainly due to the amount of your time it will require. You will not pass this class if you do not put a good amount of effort into it. I will warn you that the midterm and finals are extremely heavily weighted grades. Missing even one question on these tests can be very punishing to your grade.
Standard online class, mostly self-taught. DBA's had you write solutions to problems of your choice. The math editor lets you write in LaTeX, which was fun to learn. Midterm and final were each weighted 25% with 12-14 problems and a study guide. You get partial credit for work shown. I was worried because of reviews here, but she is a fair grader.
Professor provides videos to help with problems. Access to MyLab & Mastering is necessary, which is where homework/textbook are located. Usually three hw assignments a week and throughout the course, there are a total of 5 tests including the final (each with reviews); all are proctored, but one and proctoring system is free
Worse professor you could possible take. Do not recommend. The proctored test are worth everything in this class yet the homework is so heavy and worth literally nothing. Her communication is awful. If you can teach yourself math, this is the class for you, but if you need any help, good luck, youre probably going to fail with her as your professor
Worth teacher ever! A lot of homework and she doesnt care about hers student. She doesnt give you credit for doing math lab and or any things to help out for the tests. Heavy test, the point that you get is what you got. She is cold and if you come to her for help she would explain it to you but doesnt care if you understood or not.
Dr. Y had one of the most organized online formats I've worked with. There is a decent amount of work, but the process of using My Math Lab really helps to solidify concepts. While not all the help I received from her helped me there was no issue going back and asking again she will help you 'til you get it.
The final and midterm were 30% of your grade. Even if you have an A from all of the hw and db assignments then you are unlikely to pass if you're bad at tests. Steer clear of her if you aren't willing to teach yourself as that is all I did. I absolutely do not recommend this class. Midterm and final are proctored.
I had Yakutova for calc 2 and honestly the worst teacher to have ever for a math course. She fails you if you do not show all your work for the exams, which does not make sense because all work does NOT need to be shown. Fails you even if the answer is right. No extra credit. Honestly don't take her. There are wat better teachers.
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO LEARN. Her grading system is so bad and stupid since the homework is worth nothing, BUT THAT'S LITERALLY ALL YOU DO. And the mid-term and final take up the majority of your grades. It's no wonder so many people fail her classes or suffer mentally. This is not the right way to teach.
Terrible teacher. Tests and quizzes are worth so much that everything else is useless to do. Homework assignments are near useless to do since doing all of them will change your grade minimally. If you are a test taker this is the worst class.
Dont do it.
I had been out of school for almost 10 years so I had to start my math at the lowest level. Dr. Y is very through on what's being taught and will show you problems again. She gives partial credit to test questions even if you got the answer wrong which helps. Always announces when quizzes are. LOTS of hw but it was a 12w class so its understandable
Terrible grading system. There are two tests(both about 12-13 questions) worth 60% of your grade. A few questions wrong on your test completely tanks your grade. If you are a bad test taker, please do not take this class. I understand this is a weed out class for many engineering disciplines, but the instructor was genuinely unfair.
She is a tough grader and put stuff on the test and quizzes that she never even taught. She also gave 3-4 assignments a week; each assignment was 20-30 questions. It was very time consuming. The homework was also filled with questions that she never taught.
WORST TEACHER I've had. You will have around 5-6 homework assignments per week (plus quizzes, discussion posts, reviews, test, etc.). IF YOU DO POORLY ON ONE TEST, YOU WILL LIKELY FAIL THE CLASS. Be prepared to teach yourself and rely on online resources to guide you through the course. IF YOUR ARE NOT A GOOD TEST TAKER PICK SOMEONE ELSE.
Worst professor ever. I have taken calculus 2 with her twice and both times I have failed the midterm even though I have studied for 2 weeks straight with 6-7 hours a day. I studied the review multiple times and all the questions were nothing like from the review. If you want to learn something. GO TO SOMEONE ELSE.
4 HW assignments and a quiz per week. Tests are proctored. Reviews don't prepare you for the tests. In discussions, you have to pick a problem each week and show the steps you take to solve it (and you have to use equation mode). Then you have to critique 2 classmate's examples. I did better in college algebra than I did in her intermediate class.
Taking a Calc 2 course with this professor might seem daunting due to the many negative reviews that despise this professor. However despite the challenging workload, it is doable. There are two tests each worth 30% of the grade. I aced both tests due to many hours of studying. As long as you put time and effort into this class, you will pass it.
This was not an extremely difficult class. It was all MyMathLab, so you had unlimited attempts to do homework. Quizzes were usually 3 attempts, all the attempt had similar questions so it was easy to ace it. The mid-term and final exam were not bad, as long as you did the reviews for them. The exams would be super similar to the reviews.
Be sure to read the honorlock requirements. She was amazing and reached out when I needed help.
I thought the bad reviews on here were exaggerating, but they're not in the slighest. She weighted our tests hard (our midterm and final were 60 percent of our grade) and during the midterm she waited until the last day to approve our flashcards. Final and Midterm are proctored. You are better off taking this course with someone else.
Tests count for a lot of your grade. Only one extra credit opportunity was offered throughout the entire course. Incredibly strict and unfair. Would not recommend! Take this course with a different teacher!!!!!
If you are not a good test taker do not take this class. Even if you get all 100's on every assignment it is not possible to pass if you don't do extremely well on the proctered exams. I got high grades on every homework but got 60's on literally only 3 tests and it cost me my grade
This class is not for the weak.I am good at math and I had no problems with algebra but her class was difficult for me bc of all of the Homework given. Make sure you do all the homework and ALL the extra credit that she offers for the tests. Tests are heavy! passed with exactly 90% so it's definitely a do-able class, just lots of Hw.
had her for cal2&linear algebra online over summer- expect to teach yourself both subjects, as lecture vids are rubbish and incomprehensible at times. course(s) are very homework heavy - if you don't do the HW you lose what's essentially a 'free' grade, but six or seven hours of it is the minimum per class - so stay away if you don't have freetime
It's calc 2, it's going to be hard, especially online. However, she provided her own videos in addition to the material/videos in MML. She responded quickly to emails, even late at night. Tests are a HUGE portion of your grade, but she gives partial credit wherever she can. It's a hard class but she gives you all the tools you need to succeed.
Pretty fast paced, if you don't excel at math or haven't taken a math course in a while id suggest a different teacher. Im dual enrolled and took algebra 2 the same year I took this and in comparison this class is really easy. Just pay attention and if you're good with math, you'll be fine.
I am not math strong, so this class was hard for me. I also took it at 8am which I will never do for a math class again. The lectures were very boring, but she covered all the information. Homework was on my math lab and tests were in person.
I took this class online over the summer. She assigns videos to watch but they were of random teachers doing it for their own students. It rarely made sense with the homework she assigned. It was very fast-paced and if you got behind you would be behind forever. The tests are graded harshly and never seem to correlate with the homework or videos.
I took an on-line class in Fall 2022. The homework is twice that given by other professors, notes are not hers, the expectations are unreasonable for novices in the class for quizzes and tests and there is no visible submission for work. She failed me for the lattermost and flagged me for cheating (which invalidates my state financial aid).
To all upcoming calculus 2 students, take her in person. She is very cordial with you and lenient than the past few years. She has an extra credit system where if you complete review assignments with 100%, then she can give a 5% bump to your grade. She also gives out half completed packets and goes through every example. Prepare to study 12 hrs tho
would not recommend. never felt like i could ask for help as she was very closed off and unwelcoming. tests could either greatly improve your grade or drop it immensely. no opportunities for extra credit. tests are proctored with honorlock. very tough on grading, especially on discussions. very strict.
I loved dr. Y she was a very caring teacher and made activities to make sure everyone understood the assignment when i got a question wrong i got some credit if i did the proper steps. She would review before tests and overall a very good teacher. There was alot of homework but it was only 5 assignments a week for an 8 week course it wasnt too bad.
This class was very easy for me. If you don't show up you won't do well. We go over everything in class. The homework is very easy but she even gave partial credit if you got the answer wrong but had the process down. I highly recommend her.
Don't do it even if there is no other option. Wait for another semester and take with someone else. You cannot win in this class no matter how much you study. I'm sure that this teacher knows her stuff when it comes to math, but teaching math is another story. Avoid at all costs.
I absolutely loved dr. Y she was very nice and took time to explain things as long as you show up and do the work youll pass
I highly advise to stay clear from this professor, do yourself a favor and take anyone else. I do not struggle with math concepts, but this professor makes this class unbearable. She is an incredibly tough grader, especially with discussions. Once you read her syllabus detailing every way she will take off points, you'll understand why.
Please don't take this professor of you want to pass your intermediate algebra class. So many homework assignments that mean absolutely nothing if you fail the tests. Go to literally any other professor if you want excell in college. Also, if you miss more than two classes, she can and will fail you.
Terrible teacher do not take her. You will fail.
If you plan on taking MAT1033 with this teacher, I would highly suggest being prepared to have 4-5 homework assignments a week. These are only 10% of your grade, with your 3 proctored tests being 45%. These tests are nothing like the homework. I consider myself pretty good at math but this workload is rough.
This has been the worst professor I have ever taken. Most of the class is failing. Do not take her you will fail. She has all these bad ratings for a reason. Took this one only because I couldn't get the other one because I signed up too late. Not worth it.
Avoid like the plague.
This class was EXTREMELY test heavy... trust me, choose someone different. Her lectures are so fast, you have no time to even think about what your doing before she turns to page. She forgets she's supposed to be teaching us not just showing us. Her vibe is also very off putting... if you ask a question it seems like she sees it as a waste of time.
Probably the worst professor I have ever taken, she doesn't teach she speaks, if you want to learn the material make sure you can teach yourself becauseI often felt dismissed or inadequate whenever I asked questions, she speeds through every lesson. Please pick a different professor.
Unfortunately I have no good feedback on this class. I would recommend taking any other teacher If this is a class you need because you will fail if you don't teach yourself the material. She doesn't care for her students or if they learn the material. She talks like we should already know the information. Ive never felt so unheard.
This is by far the worse professor i've ever taken. You can expect to have a minimum of four homework assignments a week and they average 20 questions each. Her lectures are very fast paced, and if you are confused and ask a question, she is very dismissive and acts like you should have already known it. Take a diff professor if you want to pass!!
For a teacher who has more kids failing than passing with test averages of 30-40% you would think she'd be more interested in helping the students understand the information before passing out her next exam but honestly it seems like she couldn't care less. Ive never doubted my intelligence but she's changed that for me. Pick someone else please.
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER She gives at least 10 assignments each chapter but won't teach the material. She rushes through every lecture to cram as much information as she can all at once and seems annoyed when anyone asks a question. She expects you to take notes during class and teach yourself on your own time. She will fail you before helping you.
After talking to so many of my classmates I am here to voice that we were all at a loss in this entire semester. This teacher has ruined our chance to graduate in the spring. I take credit for my grades but this class is different I've never been bad at math but she makes me feel unteachable. She won't help you she will only fail you.
Did not help even in the slightest. Majority of the class failed including me no matter how much I worked. 30 seconds on topics and then barraged with homework that did not help at all on tests.I work long hours and still put my all into this and she was no help. Managed to make easy algebra the most difficult I've ever seen. Tests were complete bs
This professor is unable to inform and teach students of what is needed to pass her class. Her lectures are too fast paced and she has a hard time explain the concepts in detail. Any student I went to for help or guidance when trying to get a better understanding was in the same boat as I am and had also failed the class. Please don't take.
I would avoid her like the PLAGUE!!!she gives alot of homework that doesn't even help your grade.she doesn't even try and help anyone.Extra credit is useless. Shewould cough all the time.Sheliterally threatened me with a knife on the first day. Andshe can't pronounce the name Cynthia. She has a heavyaccent and refuse to helpremove someone for me
Professor Yakutova-Lorentz's course is no walk in the park, but with dedication and study tools like ChatGPT and Unstuckstudy, it's doable. Expect a heavy workload, but if you put in the time, you can succeed.
This class was so difficult I had to withdrawal after one week. Be prepared to use a webcam that shows your face, hands, room, keyboard, calculator for your proctored exams. You can do zero homework/ quizzes and pass the class because the exams are worth so much.
terrible professor she was rude, hard to reach out to, made you feel dumb for asking questions, doesn't know what you're saying most the time and just overall the worst professor ive ever had she's not made to teach
An amazing professor! In honestly had a great time learning in this class. It helped me improve many of my math skills and learn new ways to solve problems. Her class was hard but that only made me want to work harder in this class and improve my skills. She was really nice, kind, and incredibly smart. I would take her class again and again.
I am exchange student from former Soviet country (Belarus), please excuse me for less than quality English. The teacher is Russian and called me ethnic slurs in her language. Very rude and very discriminatory. Not to mention that the class is difficult and near impossible to do unless it is the only course which you are taking.
With this professor I'd definitely take tutoring because she's not an easy test giver, but she does give feedback that helps for other assignments she gives. Professor Y is a tough course if you're not already good at math, but its evident she doesn't want to fail her students. If you don't show up you'll for sure fail. Id give her a 6/10.
Avoid like the plague, be prepared to teach yourself, if you are in a class taught by her.
Find someone else. Poor lectures? CHECK! Lots of homework? CHECK! Difficult exams? CHECK! You get it all with this professor.
I would not take her class even if it was the last mathematics class on planet Earth. Rude in dealing with students, tough grader, lots of assignments and exams. If you have her, switch instructors or defer to the next semester, it just is not worth taking her class.
She was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I joined a call during a family emergency to resolve an exam issue, and she yelled at me instead of helping. I was doing my best to fix the camera setup to meet her expectations, but she kept shouting. So, so rude and disrespectful. Worst experience I've had with a professor.
Dr Y. is an amazing professor. Please don't let the negative reviews scare you away from her class. If you genuinely pay attention and do the homework it is literally impossible to fail. Easiest class of my entire semester and shes so nice!
Don't recommend
She'll scoff and ridicule you when you make a mistake. You'll have an overwhelming amount of homework. The tests are impossible to pass. There is no curve. There is no drop. I've been the class high for every test, and all below a C. If you want to hate your life, then take her class!
she gives a bunch of assignments but if you do all of them then it prepares you for the tests. super test heavy but i think she said that was a department mandate and she offers extra credit for review anyways. she was never mean like i see some people saying, just blunt because some people should've taken a lower level class.
This is the worst teacher/person i have ever met, she gives so much homework no time for other classes. Don't get me started on the tests, she accuses students of cheating durning her impossible tests if you want to not learn anything, not understand and be disrespected then stick to her class.
literally impossible to pass with every test being 45% of your grade.
