Very good class. Must attend and pay attention but you will do well. Had to write 5 essay questions for each test. Had to write 4 papers. A lot of work for the 8 week class but she is very helpful.
Willing to help her students to secede in her class and others. She works as a Retention Specialist and is very driven in her helping students that struggle.
great teacher. very helpful. she knows her stuff and will help you understand. lots of writing but don't let that scare you away! if you do a little studying before the test you will be fine. the little homework assigned was super easy. if you attend class you will do fine.... if not you are in trouble
In order to pass you need to write all notes. Its alot of notes
Honestly the best teacher I've ever had. She is very helpful and understanding and does a lot of group interaction. She made me want to come to class everyday. Ya there a notes every class but if you actually read the chapters like we're required to you won't have a problem keeping up
Hands down best teacher I've ever had. I only wish she taught other classes. She made class fun and exciting and was very helpful. I would recommend anyone needing Psych101 to take her class
not helpful at all.
She is extremely nice and very helpful. You have to completely not care to fail this class. She gives you a study guide with everything you need to know for the test. Take notes and show up for class and you will be just fine(:
Prof. Mason is amazing. she's very helpful and you wants to see her students do well and succeed. for every exam she has a study guide witch helps a lot. sometimes she likes students to engage and participate so she'll pick on you randomly but she'll help you out even if you don't know. i loved her and her class.
Mrs. Mason is an excellent teacher. She really cares about the subject and made an boring subject interesting. She is always willing to help her students to do well in her class. I would recommend her for research methods.
Taking 4 wk class online. Disc & post-graded. Read selections in book, wtch video clips,...Take 4 exams, lowest score dropped. Can retake each exam, but is not identical. Pwr Pnt 4 finl prjct @ least 7 slides, one claim on each. Will finish hopefully w/A. Previously took Doody-don't nor Tracy!
Professor Mason was amazing!!! I took her class after being out of school for 6 years and she walked me through the whole online class thing. She always responded to my questions and concerns within a day of my e-mail. Discussion post and response every week 4 tests and final project. Class was easy as long as you do the work.
She is an awesome teacher. I enjoyed her class & her as a teacher very much.
outstanding professor! keeps you interested on the topic. She provides study guides that are extremely helpful! Highly recommended for Psych-101
I liked professor Mason. I took her Research class, and I found her engaging and well informed. She is gracious, and intelligent. She is willing to guide students, and explore off-topic subjects during breaks. Her study guides are helpful. Enjoyable class, enjoyable professor. And the work is simple enough, with a few essays and fill-in guides.
I love having her for a professor! She's a very dedicated psychologist and very caring teacher as well. If you miss a test or got a bad grade on one you can make it up at the end of the semester. If you fail one of her classes college just isn't for you.
I took her class in the morning which made it a bit of a drag because everyone was still asleep. But she is very nice and really easy. All you need to do is be interactive and the class will be a blast :)
I took a hybrid class and Elsa did a really good job. I am so happy i took her. I really enjoyed her class and got an easy A. Put some effort in, attend class and you will get an A.
This class is pretty easy but it's not very fun. The subject is really boring, but that's not the teacher's fault. She's actually very nice and helpful and the material is not difficult. The only reason to take this class is for the credit if you're a social science major.
Great teacher, willing to work with you, gives extra credit for class attendance, but will also drop grade for poor attendance, study the notes and you'll do fine, not too much textbook use.
Elsa Mason was an incredibly helpful professor! I took her class online in the fall, and received an A. She posted presentations each week. There was a discussion post each week, four tests, and a final project. She graded very quickly and always responded to emails.
Textbook is great & tests are based on it. This class is really like a research class with psychology as the subject. Discussions are a nightmare. You are told which side to argue. If your last name starts with the right letter, it's easy. If not, you get the non-progressive side to argue, which means there is nothing in the CSN library for it.
Professor provided very solid feedback for writing assignments. Was quick to respond to any issues that arose during the course. Overall great experience
Ms. Mason is such a great teacher, she explain the subject very well and answers all the questions. She gives study guides and her exams are based on the study guide. She is strict but fair. I love her teaching style and will definitely take her again.
Love her, one of the best at CSN. She responds to emails quick. She is always available for the students. Gives study guides and exams are based on her study guides no surprises. Overall she is a great teacher.
Elsa Mason was a great teacher. Her lectures are sometimes a drag, but it will all be on the test. She is very helpful and easy to speak with. She encourages participation, but it spices the class up. TAKE NOTES! overall easy A.
So boring but it was an easy class. 3 exams and 1 group project. You don't need to take notes, but just pay attetnion during lecture because a lot of the test questions are from examples and things she said in class rather than out of the textbook. Don't waste your money on the textbook either cause you don't even need it
Ms. Mason responded quickly to my emails and was courteous. Great instructor!
I highly recommend her!
Professor Mason is great. Her teaching is great also. We take a lot of notes, and she moves kind of fast, so attendance is a must kind of. We barely used the textbook but it's a good idea to have it, especially when you're completing the study guides for test; but study guides are basically just your notes from the lecture. Fun, Interesting class!!
Amazing teacher, very good teaching skills, very passionate about psychology. Somewhat of a lot of homework, and some textbook reading that goes along with the HW.
I really enjoyed this class and this professor. The information learned was very interesting and is helpful in every day life. Some homework, but not overwhelming. Her lectures were never boring. Take notes and complete study guides to help with tests (there were 4). There is one group project as the final for the class. Book helpful.
Great Teacher. As long as you can get ahold of someone from the class and be prepared for the next lecture you should be fine. Make sure you take detailed notes.
I really liked her! Any questions you had, she would reply in a good timely manner. My very first test I did terrible but your allow to retake it and I knew what to expect after. Quizzes were pretty easy. Test were a bit hard because its specific. Lots of assignments but everything was very interesting.
She is a great professor who really cares about her students and their success in the class. She takes the time to get to know your name, grade, and major. She provides study guides and is very passionate about her subject. The tests are difficult but feasible if you study. This is a great class and I recommend it to anyone needing to take psych.
Professor Mason is very kind, but there's a lot of work in her class. The tests are harder than the material she gives you, and extremely specific. The book is needed as there are some assignments with it. The group project is at the end of the semester, so if you can't work with people, don't take her. She's okay but not the best choice.
I actually really like learning about PSY, but with Mason I found it difficult. There were things on the tests that we barely/didn't go over in class. It was a plus, though, that all the tests and quizzes were on canvas. You can get the book if you want to, but I only used it once when looking for a picture of the Eye and it's parts.
Instructor Mason is very nice but I felt as if she was all over the place with her teaching. I found it fairly difficult to grasp the lesson(s). The exams were really hard and were on topics we really did not go over in class. She was okay, but I would not recommend.
Very nice and understanding. Took online. If you don't keep up with the reading you will fall behind. Need at least 10+ for this course per week. Lots of videos and material to go over other than reading as well. Some cool activities though. Tests are pretty difficult, even if you have notes with you, use the study guide and do the reading.
I enjoyed taking this class online. If you have any issues or problems she is just an email away and doesn't hesitate to help you out.
Professor Mason is amazing. I took this class just for credit and she really made me love it. Your tests are online which is nice and you have ample time to do them,They are timed, She also provides a study guide for them. She is really nice and will give extensions if you have a reason. Overall an amazing professor and class definitely worth it.
What can I say about Professor Mason? She is awesome, she is really caring and understanding. The tests she gives are online, but be prepared for lectures, YOUR NOTES ARE IMPORTANT! They are the answers to her tests indirectly written. There is about a week to complete each test AND SHE INCLUDES A STUDY GUIDE!! She engages the class very well!!!
She is an amazing psych professor. She makes 4 exams for the semester and there's no cumilative final and they're all online and open book, notes. She makes sure that you get the most out of psychology and makes sure everyone passes her class. There is a group presentation at the end of the semester.
I took her online class. You will read and write several online post and have to respond to peers for credit. Exams are timed and take an hour to complete. There is a final PP project. She gives great feedback and is very very helpful !
I loved Mrs. Mason, but she was not a good teacher. Her lectures were not cohesive at all, as in they were all over the place. The tests were impossible to complete with only the notes, so you might as well not take notes and take the (online) tests using the textbook only. She also doesn't really answer questions. Get ready to teach yourself psych
She helped me learn psychology, actually absorb it. She is a great professor. Respect her.
Show up to class, take notes, and read! If you don't read, then the tests will be very hard. There are 3 exams and 3 writings you'll need to do. The writings are very simple. All you need to do is choose a topic and write a paragraph about how it plays a role in your life, and as I said before, as long as you read and take notes, the exams are easy
Super easy and interesting course. She explains everything in depth, and she reminds everyone about assignments before the due date. The exams were simple as long as you attend lecture and take notes. There is a group project at the end, so choose wisely! Do not buy the textbook!!! I never used it, and everything on exams are from the lecture.
She has lecture during class a bit boring ,but you have to work to get a good grade .She is a fair grader and she gives extra credit to help if you needed it. I didn't but its there .
A lot of notes. Doesnt relate to students. Doesnt work with struggling students.
She is a great Professor and gave out a good amount of homework.
Lots of work to do for this one class. Not too much time to do work in my 5 other classes. when the work is done and you still get a low B, you get quite disappointed
Good Luck.
Psy 208 Yes you do have to read the book, but the chapters are so short and easy to read and understand. Everything you need to do for the class is written clearly. If you get anything below an A it is simply because you missed some assignments, did not study, or did not follow the directions on the assignments. I'm taking her again for PSY 298.
I enjoyed Professor Mason a lot. If you miss a class you are more than likely to drop 2-3 % because of how much she cares about attendance. Do what she tells you to do and you will be fine.
I recommend this class to students that are dedicated to school because it is not an easy A. During lectures, it is mostly you listen and write, she goes pretty fast but you will guarantee learn something new each class and understand all the material with no problem. She is easy to talk to and understanding. Wonderful at teaching.
Great professor. pretty easy class as long as you show up and study for the exams. She grades you on attendance at the end of the semester so missing a lot isn't going to do you any good. not much homework if any at all. four exams, pretty easy if you STUDY. She gives out study guides. group project at the end of the semester.
For a 101 class, it was much too demanding. Lots of homework, quizzes, tests and final project. Study guides for 3 chapters are 6 pages long, and then some test questions weren't even in the study guide. Just way too demanding for a 101 class. We're not here to do a doctorate in psychology, but it feels like we are.
if you have option to take her, TAKE HER!!! class isnt hard, didnt really read the book because she posts powerpoints that simplify it. Only used the book if i needed in depth explanation, but i emailed her about any questions and she is THE most helpful teacher there is. Fun experiments, some readings are challenging but if you ask shell help!
Elsa is the best at explaining the material until you understand it. She even made me want to change my major due to her inspiration and passion on the subject. She is also very quick to get back to you and is is always easy to ask questions to. Just show up and skim through the text book for study at home. Minimal homework.
This was Professor Masons first online class at CSN for this specific course. It was a Psychology and the Family 4 week course. She is extremely helpful and gives helpful feedback on all of the assignments. There are 3 lecture posts and easy surveys due a week plus one quiz a week. And a final project powerpoint at the end. I loved this class!
Dr. Mason is a very good teacher, she is caring and responds to emails quickly and answers all your questions. Her tests are difficult but focus on studying the material on the brief study guides she has provided. I recommend making quizlets or flashcards to study. Although I was stressed I overall enjoyed her as a teacher.
Her class is very organized; she is clear about the assignments you need to do & gives clear instructions. Has brief overviews of what will be on the tests, & tests are HEAVILY GRADED. The book is very important. She gives extra credit opportunities & will gladly help you when you ask. Was stressed, but overall, it was good! She is very nice!
If you learn well by reading the book and powerpoints with no other interaction from the professor, you will do well. Full Online class with zero lectures or personalized materials. 100% straight from the book. Why are we paying her again?
While her class isn't the most difficult, she doesn't teach you online. You read a textbook- or her textbook slideshow, and then do quiz's with weird and obscure questions not covered by the textbook- not to mention the constant video projects. She's an in-person teacher who doesn't know how to translate to online learning well, and it shows.
Dr. Mason is a very kind professor. She honestly does her best to help you pass. The quizzes are difficult but she provides study guides. She has many extra credit opportunities! Honestly if you need help, just ask her she is very sweet and responds quickly. Lots of reports due but she isn't a tough grader.
Professor Mason is a great professor! I always received good feedback very quickly. The assignments are kind of challenging but it depends on each one. The exams are difficult and frequent so STUDY. She did help me understand a lot of things privately so I could do well on the exams which I am so grateful for. I would 100% take this class again!
Dr. Mason is a super nice professor and cares about her students outside of schoolwork. She is always available outside of class to answer questions. I had no trouble understanding any of her directions and her class is very straightforward. She was also a generous grader and offered extra credit many times. :)
I took the course PSY240. There were way too many time-consuming assignments due with little educational purpose. Although the professor held constant communication and encouraged questions, I would not take this class again.
Dr. Mason was amazing. She's so kind and understanding. I will say that, YES her class can be difficult because of the amount of things you have to learn, but if you're on top of your stuff and work really hard, you can pass with an A. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
This professor stood out to me in a good way. Although her class was difficult, I enjoyed it with her as my professor. She gives good feedback, understands that life happens sometimes, and was one of the best profs Ive had at CSN. Her material, although somewhat challenging and tedious, is clearly graded and explained very thoroughly. Take her!!
You are watched when you're taking your weekly quizzes. Discussion posts per week with replies. One final powerpoint due at the end of the semester. No mid-term or final exam. Has extremely easy and so so many extra credit opportunities.( I got a 103% because of the extra credit.) Text-book is long to read every week, but interesting. Solid class:)
Dr. Mason was always available when I needed help. She was quick to give an extension when I got covid which I was so thankful for, seriously. She tries her best to make class interesting and the tests are a bit difficult but nothing too bad.
Dr. Mason was a great professor. This class was for Summer 2021, which is accelerated to 8wks rather than the regular 16wks. Because of this, it was 2x the work and every assignment matters. She does set up the grades so that you will still pass even if you miss a few assignments. Few EC opportunities, but super easy - do them because they count.
Great professor and class! Good feedback. 8-week course with usually 2 discussion posts and two 10 question quizzes. Quizzes and some discussion posts are based on the textbook (an easy read). Some discussion posts are based on conducting interviews or examining a movie scene that relates to the text (really cool). One final PowerPoint at the end.
Be ready to hit the ground running if you take this course online. This is a research class, so expect to read and analyze articles and be tested on the material. Luckily she is flexible and is willing to work around with you if you run into any personal issues, just be open. There is no time to slack. Take this course seriously. Weekly tests.
Class is easy and fun, if you regularly attend. Miss too many classes = drop in grade. Homework once a week, 4 tests total. 1 group presentation at the end. Lots of review Kahoots. Can extend deadlines with circumstances. The book is needed for a few things, but I didn't use it too often (online books are acceptable/renting). Professor is kind!
The class is 4 exams that you take on your own time and one group presentation. Class consist of mostly lectures and some kahoots at the end. If you get top 5 on the kahoot you get a sticker. Overall I loved this class. The professor is very nice.
Great professor and class, assignments always felt at least somewhat useful, and grading tended to be fair. Lectures were dry, but not unbearable, and tended to be broken up by more interesting activities. Biggest complaint is that the final was a group project presentation, which is obviously not amazing.
I took this class in my first semester of college. I had no prior knowledge of college psychology, but had no problems in this class. She seemed to care about her students and makes it easy enough for everyone to understand the material. Mostly all of the answers come directly from the textbook. I'd defiantly recommend taking her!!
Pros: textbook is free, 2 attempts for tests. Cons: a lot of work for little credit every week.Terrible communications skills.1 attempt for the larger projects which can damage your grade.
If you do not get 100% on all the quizzes, be prepared for your grade to drop, don't get even one question wrong. She doesn't spell check or grammar check her quizzes, or assignments, so they are very confusing. Above 93% is an A in her class, but I don't think she allows anybody to get an A. Extra credit grades were never applied to grade.
Research Methods: Get ready to read and dive into doing mini-research papers. Reading was boring (just because it talk about how to conduct research) and then there is a quiz each week. Reach out to Dr.Olson if you need help, she is seriously wonderful
