very helpful teacher, you'll learn a lot from her

Her grading is easy. I believe that I'm a C writter and I have been getting B's and A's. A lot of work (journals almost every single day). If u keep up the work and do fine on essays u will do great. She is really nice and helpful. I do recommend her.

She is tough, but fair. Always has time to help or chat in office hrs. Interesting class. Caring teacher who really treats us like college students.

A really cool teacher. Always seems happy 2 be there. Funny n Nice. If you want a teacher who will really teach u how 2 b a better writer--she's the 1. Wish more teachers were like her.

cares about students.... walks around to check if you did your hw..everyday short journal entries and 10 pg readings... lots of class discussions and lots of group work...midterm and final are essays in which you can use outlines... go over essays with her in office hrs, it helps tremendously...i got an A.

So nice & inspiring.Really respects us,wants to help us transfer.Quirky projects and class activities so we don't get bored.Listens to ideas.1 thing I didnt like was some students were lazy & slowed down class because she calls on people and they sit there like, duh.Recommend u take her if u like to read & write, but not if u want an easy pass.

very helpful teacher, very respectful and organized. she really wants to help you improve your writing! gives a lot of assignments though but if you want to feel like your getting a college education go take her!

I have her now and she did NOT give "xtensive work"--she gave a 1-pg journal like she does most days.Shes the only 1 of MY 5 professors that even takes the time to read papers closely and give comments. You can tell she really likes teaching becuz she takes time to meet with students and is always telling us how to get help n do good in school.

I had her last semester. She is very easy. She was one of my "easy A" class. You only need to do 1 journal each time. The essays are easy because she gave comments on the rough drafts so once u followed her comments, you will get an A.

When I first met Prof Rivas Gomez I thought it was be a tough class to get an A in. But you have to buy into her system where she gives you journal work. Schedule an appointment with her after she passes back your essay. That's where you can dramatically improve your chances in writing an "A" paper and possibly get an A in the class.

Yeah, its all true, her class is really hard if and only if, you don't like english obviously. Just take notes, particpate in discussions, and also put in some extra, honest, and modest time. Just be yourself, hopefully nice, willing to learn, and also someone who is honest in what you do. then i can guarrentee you that A+++++++ you dreamed about!

Her class involves a lot of reading and writing. You have journal assignments due in almost every class meeting. She is a tough grader when it comes to essays, but fair on other assignments. There is a lot of group work and even a final group project. I got an "A" but it took a lot of work. You have to put in a lot of time to get the grade you want

I didn't find her class to be all that hard. You show up, get into groups, answer some questions/interpret things here and there which is about it. You'll write about 5 or 6 essays throughout the course. She assigns HW everyday. Strong writers will do fine. avg to below writers will also do fine if you put some effort into your work.

cool teacher, but she is very strict and demanding. you have 5 essays to do. they are 5 pages long, and the biggest is a 8 page research paper. she gives out hoomework just about every class meeting. tough class, but i learned a lot.

Excellent professor! Very helpful but also demanding. Lots of group work and peer review; however, this will help improve your writing, both as a student and an academic writer. Don't listen to some of these other students. Do your work and you'll stay on her good side. If that's what they call favoritism, then I guess I was one of many favorites

She's okay, but very demanding in homework, her essays are fairly simple, but long. She does show some favoritism and whatever you do stay on her good side or you will have a hard time in her class. Other than that her finals are very predictable because we discuss them in class.

This prof. is great, she's a bit strict but the class is really interesting and really helps develop your essay-writing skills. The books and texts we read were really interesting and I loved reading them. I will take her for my English 1A class for sure.

This tcher cares about her students. I know bcuz she spend a lot of time with me and others during office hrs helping us. She choses interesting topics, doesnt grade you badly if you disagree with her, and treats us like--college students, not idiots. Yah, she expects us to do our reading and finish our homwork, but i'm pretty sure thats hr job.

I had her for Eng 400, 100, 1A & 1B. She's not easy, but she does get you ready for transfer to a univ. I know a lot of people that take her for more than one class cause she's really interesting and pushes us. I never got an A, but I thinks she grades fair. I felt the grades were right on. Readings for 1B were tough but awesome. Best class yet.

She is a great teacher. Been at Pcc for two years and i had never learned more in a class than what i learned in hers. she teaches Puente students as well as regular students. PEOPLE WHO SAY SHE IS HARD IS BECAUSE SHE IS, PEOPLE WHO SAY NOT TO TAKE HER IS BECAUSE THEY DON'T LIKE ACTUALLY WORKING HARD FOR THEIR GRADES!!!

She is very helpful to her students and that if you are one of her favorite if your not,then just shut your mouth so she does'nt embarass you in the class.Very hard on grading but I am happy got a a good grade.If you take her class just try catching her attention by pretending your smart.Good luck!

She is a tough teacher but it is not hard to pass the class as long as you complete the assignments. Participate and visit her during her office hours and she will like you.If you prove to her that you do the readings she will like you even more.

She runs the puente program and she is awesome. She cares about students and is passionnate about helping us reach our goals. She does expect us to do our work--because she respects us! Her classes are college classes, not high school continuation. If you want slack off, don't take her. If you want to learn a lot from a great teacher, take her!

Mrs. Gomez always makes time to meet with me. She talks to us individually about our papers and grades. Really cares about us doing well and knows a lot about transfering. Freindly and smart. She gets annoyed when people dont do homework, but thats fair in college I think. If your struggling in her class, I say you talk to her bcus she'll help .

Professor Rivas-Gomez is a wonderful teacher. She cares about her students and takes the time to make sure that her students understand the assignments. I had read the reviews and was totally scared to take her class. She proved the negative reviews wrong. I enjoyed her class, and i am very great full for her help!

This teacher is really nice and cool. I really enjoyed her class because you do group work and you get to know everyone in there. Kinda like high school. She only gives essays and they're easy if you're good at writing in detail. The only thing I didn't like was that she picks favorites. If she really likes you, then you'll pass the class.

Super helpful and knows a lot of transfer stuff. Took time to talk with me whenever I needed to. You have to do your work, but she is a teacher who cares.

she is NOT an easy professor, but she is always very clear, concise, professional, and fair. Her grading i'll admit is difficult but there should be NO REASON AT ALL to fail her class as she will edit and proofread your paper AS MANY TIMES if you take the time to visit. she DOES tend to ignore you if you didn't read but that's understandable. :)

i took her for English 100 and 1A and i have to admit she is one hard professor.she assigns a whole lot of work so if you want to pass her class you have to be on it.she is clear and as hard as she i,s you will not find another professor caring enough to help you as much as you need its.as for complaining STOP, your not in high school!

She is a great. Professor cares about her students and makes sure we understand anything we learn goes over it and has patience with her students.

I think she is one of the best teahcer i had. Coming from ESL classes, i learned alot in her class, andi ended up with good writting skills in essays. Despite my grade, i think the knowlegde, and help from her is very helpfull.

teacher cares about students. doesn't lecture. class is hard--readings are a must to be in the class, but even with a short summer session, she gets us thinking. if you are willing to work hard and be kind, you'll do well. if you want a class where you can nap and skip the readings, try another teacher.

She was awesome. My whole class became friends because she let talk alot an do group work and interactive work a lot. Really helpful, although not easy. You have to work for a good grade, but if your okay with that, then she's the teacher you;ll like.

I took Prof. Rivas Gomez for SUMMER 2012 and found it to be enjoyable. She is hard as you make it on yourself. If you can dissect the books she lists then you will find the intricate details to fascinating. Tip: 1.Use sticky notes for your books, 2.Evidence = ADD YOUR ANALYSIS, I can't stress enough for your essays with her.3.Have fun with groups!

One of the best professors at PCC! She is a tough grader but will work with you. You must do all your work. Her class will help you improve your writing skills. I recommend taking her class!

The online ENG1A was great! There's a good amount of assignments each week but you know about them a few days ahead of time. Keep up on the reading and do the journals! Discussions aren't hard so participate! As for the essays, you can typically create an outline out of what she asks of you. Passable if you manage time well and utilize your sources

Class was a BREEZE! As long as you turn in the work you get full credit. If you're someone who get's your work done this is your class without a doubt. She helps you become comfortable with your writing and offers good feedback. EASY A!! FUN CLASS. TAKE TAKE TAKE! However, do not procrastinate and expect readings ( it's an english class, DUH!)

Nice. Answers your questions. A lot of group work. Stimulates your mind gets you thinking and pushes you to creating your own opinion. Big on social justice. Definitely recommend her especially if you are passionate to the before mentioned. Grades easy. Work Hard and it shall pay off you can NOT afford to slack off.

I took Rivas Gomez for English 1A, Creative Writing, and Poetry. I highly recommend taking any of her classes. You can learn so much from her; she is a wonderful role model, mentor, and overall human being.

She really tries to help the students understand English and gives you really good feed back in a helpful way (almost makes you WANT to fix it with the ideas she gives you). She is very great at understanding her students learning patterns and is just a nice person. There is a lot of reading and writing but come on what do you expect from English.

Professor Gomez was fun yet not the easiest. I took her English 1A class and although it may be that I'm a good writer, she gives good tips and helps out when you ask for it. She does give lots of reading but it's not hard to get past, if you know what I mean.

Surprised to read some of the comments - esp. the attacks on her work - probably someone who didn't want to do the work. I took her for Poetry and women's lit - I walked away from both classes knowing more that I did when I started and being a better writer - I was inspired by her comments - then again, I was willing to do the work.

This is a review for her summer class which I expected to be intense, but the amount of work she assigned was unreasonable IMO. It's kind of like a set up for failure if you work and have a life outside of school. Don't take her for a short session and if you're taking this with other classes, this will be one of your more time consuming classes.

I took two classes with her, English 100 and English 1A my freshman year, and yeah it wasn't easy, she makes you work for it. The readings she assigns were very interesting. And she is always willing to help. Beware: she might come off as rude at first, but she truly cares about her students. TAKE HER.

You have to do the work. It isn't an easy class for those who want to meet a requirement and move on. She teaches material in-depth and expects engagement from her students. She cares about your work and is willing to spend a lot of time during office hours giving feedback and help. Would take again.

Although it is true that there is a lot of reading and work to do as others have mentioned, it is doable. As long as you stay on top of the reading, most of her work should be easy even though there is quite a bit of it. On top of that, she is one of the most understanding professor I have worked with this year as long as you communicate with her.

This class gave me more than I expected! Great choice of required reading and was very organized, which was great for an online class. She clearly states how much time is needed for assignments and provides suggested deadlines to not become overwhelmed. FOLLOW HER DEADLINES! You won't regret it and you will definitely come out learning something.

If you're unwilling to learn, get ready to fail. Professor Rivas-Gomez tells you what she's looking for very clearly. Follow her rules and deadlines--like you should. GO TO OFFICE HOURS and learn the essay writing rules. Expect to LEARN.

She's genuinely a sweet teacher that is always open to give her students quality feedback. Zoom lectures aren't necessary, I went to at most 2-3 and she was always delighted to see another student on the screen. There are some book required to read to pass the course, and minimal essays due, I believe an essay a week. Super great professor!!!

She is there for her students. I was scared to take this class at first but if you ask questions and really be on top of things you will get a good grade. Professor Rivas Gomez is super nice and gives great feedback on your papers.

The professor is really caring and WANTS her students to succeed. She really takes time to give personalized feedback on assignments and is there for her students. This isn't a difficult class at all, assignments are graded on credit/no credit. About , a discussion per week some reading assignments and 3 essays it's very manageable. Would recommend

Prof Gomez made sure we had what we needed to succeed. She was reachable even on weekends, seemed to understand technology ok, and took late work with no issue. I'll admit sometimes I focused on other classes more bc my other profs were more strict, but I was always able to catch up with her class and she always let me.
