Prof Hurtado is very knowledgable on the subject, but the class moves pretty slow. Lots of awkward/thoughtful silences. Attendance is mandatory, for a grade.
She is a good professor. Lots of awkward silences. Sometimes the class fell a little flat. Keep up with the readings and this is an easy A.
She is clearly well educated in cognitive psych. Straight-forward PowerPoints, straight-forward exams, gives out study guides before each exam. Rarely need textbook & attendance isn't mandatory. Definitely recommend for UM psych majors.
Hurtado is a straight-forward teacher who tries to make things as interesting as possible. She shows some pretty cool videos and has a lot of class interaction. Tests are pretty powerpoint heavy, which is good since attendance is mandatory. As long as you come to class and pay attention, you'll probably do well! Recommend.
Great professor, clear and thorough in her lectures. Class was entertaining, tests were not too difficult if you study. Show up to class, read the book and you should pass with at least a B.
Dr. Hurtado is an all around great professor. She puts all notes online and gives you review sheets about whats on the tests. She also offers help at her office hours and wants you to understand the material. Recommend!
Professor Hurtado is an overall O.K. teacher. This class ONLY consists of 4 exams. She does have the optional civic engagement credit in which she will allow for it to replace one exam grade. She doesn't know everything in this subject for having a PH.D. in it. I don't recommend her if you don't plan on doing the civic engagement.
Material is super straight forward and so are tests. Attendance in mandatory but she passes around a sign in sheet so its easy to get someone to sign you in. Everything you need to know is on her powerpoints and her study guides are specific. If you need more clarification she's helpful and almost tells you what the essay questions will be
3 tests and final. Allows you to drop your lowest grade, or skip the final if you want to drop that one. Random attendance. Willing to answer any questions by students. Best professor I have had at this school, thus far (not saying much). Gives a study guide a week before the test that tells everything you need. Should get a B+/A-. (Sophomore)
gives a study guide week before exam but its still a lot of information to remember. if you're willing to put in the work, its not a HARD class, but certainly not easy. she makes the class interesting and gives tons of examples. i would take her again.
Best psych teacher ever. She is a little dull but if you go to her office hours she's a fun teacher to talk to and really sweet. Her study guides are incredible (everything that's on the test) and never tricks you with specific questions like dates and names. Going to class is definitely helpful, although not necessary.
She is a great professor, but the class is A LOT of reading. if you do not want to have to read do not take this class. it is not an easy class in terms of how much work there is nor is the material easy. you truly have to study. TAKE THE FINAL! the final is optional but i guarantee you it will bring up your grade but she is super nice & helpful
A lot of lecture, but tests are super straight forward and pretty easy if you go to class, pay attention, and study. She is super nice and lectures are easy to follow
The class is fairly easy. Almost all of her test questions are from what she says in lecture. So if you take really good notes in class you will likely not have to read the book. There are 3 tests and an optional final that replaces your lowest score. She also gives a really helpful study guide for each test and tests had extra credit on them.
I loved this class and Hurtado. However, in my opinion you need to pay attention in class. She covers so much that's not on the powerpoint slides, so sitting through lectures can be tough. However, she gives review sheets for the exam which are extremely helpful. You can get by without reading the book if you pay extremely good attention in class.
Very interesting class. Your final grade was just an average of your exams, which was good and bad. Having no homework was definitely a plus, but puts a lot of pressure on the exams. The study guides she gives out are helpful though, study this and you'll do well.
You don't need the book, but you need to go to class. She really drills in the concepts in her lectures, it's an interesting subject so I don't think the class is too difficult since it's applied to real life. Grades are only your tests, they aren't easy but typical, need to study. She is a great professor, would take again!
Does not put her notes online even though she rambles for hours on end. Does not make any sense during her lectures and just recites the same thing over and over again. Her tests are nothing like what she says in class and it's your only grade. Doesn't understand students questions.
Will spend 30 minutes showing an irrelevant video, and SPEEDS through important material. Powerpoints are vague-you need to go to class and take really good notes. If you have a question that she doesn't know the answer to, she gets defensive and says "see me after class." She suggests that you read the textbook once, but don't use it to study...?
She's very nice and approachable, and she gives a straightforward study guide for each exam. But she seems a little out of it. Good teacher to fill a cognate.
Dr. Hurtado is a very approachable and caring teacher. She makes cognitive psych interesting and is always ready to help. She is a little off sometimes with examples but if you speak up it will clear things up completely.
Dr. Hurtado is very nice and her lectures are fairly interesting if you like psychology. She is very experienced in the field and clearly knows her stuff. You're graded by three exams and there's an optional cumulative final that replaces your lowest grade. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Awesome teacher! She explains concepts clearly with interesting examples. Not a psych major but I would take this class over if I could. Grade is based off 3 exams and an optional final and she always gives extra credit opportunities.
If you go to class and take good notes you should do really well. Test heavy but as long as you pay attention its not too bad. Gives extra credit online if you buy the book
SHE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I TOOK AT UM! I am not even a psychology major. I took her for cognitive psychology and she is very passionate about what she teaches so she teaches it so well. You don't even have to cram for the tests because as long as you go to class and take notes- you will bc she makes the topics so interesting- you will get an A
Dr. Hurtado is a nice professor. I learned a lot from her class. She gives study guide before each test, which is great.
Amazing teacher! She gives study guide before tests, memorize that material and understand it and you will do great on tests. She's sweet and caring and very accessible. I would highly recommend taking her.
You haveeee to go to Hurtado's classes if you want to do well on the exams. I didn't mind because I was always interested in what she had to say. Hurtado is by far my favorite professor at UM; so engaging and passionate about her class. I learned so much from her class and would highly recommend to any psych major or minor.
Prof Hurtado is really fair. If you show up to lecture and take good notes, along with do the online quizzes (they are extra credit), you will get an A! Most of the poeple get As on the tests. She also is great at explaining difficult concepts and makes class fun :)
Dr. Hurtado is awesome! Her class is really interesting and an easy A. Just show up and take notes and study a couple days before the exam and you will have no problems. She tells you EXACTLY what will be on exams and they are very straightforward. Def take her if you can!!!
straightforward, everything on the test is on PPT but take notes to understand concepts. Shes fair teacher & knows how to make class interesting. Only thing is shes not very generous or understanding. I asked more time for exams, Cause I ran out of time in one, she said no. 1min per question. But 3 exams with optional final
This is by far the worst psychology class I've ever taken. She never showed her face through zoom. All she did was upload the lectures and leave it up to us to learn the material. Also, she uses other professors' lecture videos, not her own which made it very confusing when it was time to take the exam. My advice is avoid her at all costs. Horrible
Love Elyse! Def take her for psy210, all of the info you need to know for the exams is given during her presentations/lectures. Also, super interesting class. And extra credit?! Hell yeah.
Tests were open note and relatively easy, plus lots of extra credit. Lectures could get boring sometimes but she involved the class and showed videos to make them more interesting. Nice woman, clearly knows what she's talking about, cares about her students.
I love this class. She is an amazing professor! Lectures were a little long but always had videos or pictures to make them more interesting. Exams were fair and easy to do good on. Lectures matched what was on exams. Overall would take this class again!
Professor Hurtado was my favorite professor I had this semester. She deeply cares about her students doing well and gets upset when test grades are low. The only grades were from open note exams and the final was optional. There are extra credit assignments available for each chapter, which is the only time you would need the textbook. Take her!
This was my favorite class this semester. Although the lectures were long, she made them super interesting. She does move very fast which is one thing I didn't love but for the most part she was a really good professor. Only 3 open note exams plus an optional final that can only help your grade.
Professor Hurtado is by far my favorite teacher at UM. Her lectures are so so interesting and make me look forward to waking up in the morning, she is so passionate about her teaching. Her tests are easy as long as you show up to every class. Attendance is extra credit, so tests are the main grade but again are not hard. Definitely take her!
The lectures are not mandatory but your are 100% in better shape if you go. You also dont need the textbook but she does offer extra credit quizes for every section that require the textbook . The only grading besides extra credit options are 4 tests . Her tests are taken at home but do require a lockdown browser.
her tests were hard af, she posts study guides about the definitions but theres nothing about the definitions on the test. They are online tests and there aint nothin on the web. she a tryhard ong. Im writing this the day before her final exam just so you know how sick i am of this L class.
Hurtado is always coming up with ways to make lectures interesting. She integrates activities and videos within her slideshow to keep the class interactive. You can tell she's super knowledge and passionate about what she teaches. Although attendance isn't mandatory, it helps tremendously with exams. Seriously take her if you can!
She focusses a lot on different studies which I find can be boring at times. However, exams are open note, but you still need to take notes and study a bit for them to do well as she has some weird questions. You don't need the textbook (not even for extra credit quizzes) as long as you take notes from slideshow/lecture.
Dr. Hurtado was a great PSY 210 professor. Lectures weren't mandatory but I barely missed any classes because they were so interesting. Exams were open note, so it was not difficult to get a good grade if you attend lecture.
Tests are online and open note. She is a GREAT lecturer and is very enthusiastic. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go since you use your notes on the test. Loved the Class
She is a perfect teacher. Her lectures are extremely interesting and if you attend class you will do very well on her exams. The tests are at home and online, and she allows you to use your notes to take the test. Nothing is a surprise to you on the test. TAKE HER
She made all the tests online so you basically could look it all up. The homework was the same way and most answers were on Quizlet. She says attendance is mandatory but only took it like 3x this semester. She blows through her lectures and they are not that engaging, but it is a 100-level psych course so it's very broad. An easy A class.
Lectures weren't very engaging. Study guides were not very helpful but if you study and come to class, you will do well. Unfortunately, she is not very understanding to students' circumstances. Also, sometimes appeared to have tried to make the course more difficult than it should have been.
Dr. Hurtado is a great professor! Loved her lectures because she is super concise and to the point about the slideshow topics. Also super kind and helpful outside of class!
She is awesome for visual and audio learners. She paints a picture for each subject she teaches. The only down fall is that she gives a lot of questions for exams and gives little time. You get a full cheat sheet back and forth for every exam. There are 3 exams and 1 optional exam to drop the lowest grade. Homework due every Sunday.
Does give a lot of homework and changed syllabus grading policy 3 times but tests have no camera and are very similar to the lectures. Pay attention to the videos in class and her lectures
For a statistics class, I feel that she did not explain the material in a comprehensive way. She talks very fast and leaves little room to process. However, grading is not bad and tests are straightforward. She gives extra credit that can be applied to tests. It's hard to learn from her in class, I had to learn most material outside of class.
Hurtado is great! Her lectures are easy to process and closely related to material students are graded on. I would recommend taking 210 without a shadow of a doubt.
Class was lecture-based, with weekly online assignments + opps for xtra credit, & in person or online (lockdown browser) open-note tests. Go to class & take good notes and you will get a good grade. Lectures can be boring, but she is always willing to help. She gives study guides, if you fill them out with notes in prep for test, you will do well.
She went through the course material really fast during lectures and pretty much just read off of the slides. The tests are online.
This professor is a great mother
The mother I never had
Hurtado is such a good psych professor! She only takes attendance randomly and once in a while but classes are so interesting that you want to show up every time. She teaches in a way where the info really sticks but even if it doesn't, you're allowed to use your notes for the exams! Totally values comprehension over memorization. Loved this class!
Dr. Hurtado is a great professor--she gives a practice exam for every exam in her class with the exact types of questions you will expect on the actual exam--this makes it very easy to pass her exams. At times, she may confuse herself during lectures with what she is talking about, but other than that she is very clear about what she is teaching.
She's like my second mom, i swear. She is the sweetest lady and cares about her students. Her lectures are very interesting, and she's super enthusiastic about psychology. I highly recommend her if you want an easy A in her class. She has an optional final! There are 3 exams, and if you decide to take the final, she will drop your lowest grade.
Absolute beauty. Attendance isn't mandatory, just gotta do online homework every Sunday and tests are open note, nice woman.
Hurtado is the psych department goat I can't lie.
Her lectures can be a bit slow sometimes, but if you pay attention, you will do well. She's sweet. Her exams are based on her lectures and power points. She will randomly take attendance, but it counts as extra credit. Homework is due every Sunday at midnight but can be finished in less than thirty minutes. You can find most of it online.
Definitely recommend Dr. Hurtado. Her lectures were easy to understand and she made them very interesting, so getting bored is not an issue. She gives extra credit and the HW is not hard. She gives study guides for all exams so you know what exactly is on each exam, and she lets you use notes. Very nice professor who genuinely cares for students.
Professor Hurtado is the best. She explains things in a way that makes them very interesting, and is always up for deeper discussion into topics. She moves swiftly, but in a way that makes it easier to pay attention. The tests are challenging, but they are open note. The class itself has a lot of cool topics, and its been my favorite class at UM.
The GOAT. Interesting and fun lectures, online open-note tests, 30 minutes hw per week, optional final. Very passionate about psychology and wants you to succeed. Take Dr. Hurtado for PSY110.
PSY 110 was a very general but interesting course. Hurtado's lectures are really interesting but you don't need to go to class to do well on the exams. She gives one homework assignment a week and 3 tests a semester. This class is very manageable and I think she teaches really well.
Amazing! Attendance is not mandatory, and all the tests are online. She is also so nice. I highly recommend taking a class with her because it's an easy A+.
Easiest A+ ever. Weekly homework assignments and 3 major exams. The exams are all online, open note, and there is an optional final you can take which drops your lowest exam score. DEF choose Dr. Hurtado over any other PSY110 teacher.
3 big exams, really hard. A lot of solving super heavy materials and lectures. Homework every week, exams get harder and harder. Moved through material kind of fast and without solving step by step exercises in class which is confusing.
She is such a nice teacher and you can tell she loves what she does. Her class is not too overwhelming and she covers interesting topics, she actually made me want to learn about psych. Easy at home quizzes, open notes tests, easy homework assignments due every other week. Take her !
Prof Hurtado is a great professor, but she does make you read the textbook + do McGraw Hill which takes a lot of time, especially since barely any of the textbook content is featured on the tests. The study guides are helpful but sometimes she doesn't give enough information about certain topics. Do the hw and go to class and you'll be fine.
She allows a page (front and back) with anything we want to use during exams. The tests are based on the lectures and slides, not the textbook. There are online assignments and quizzes with them due weekly, but they don't take long to do. If you go to class you will get an A. I highly recommend her!
Super kind and thoughtful person. Amazing teacher and speaker. Love her lectures because the material is super interesting IMO. Allows cheat sheets in every exam. Homework and quizzes are online so it's not work overload. 10/10 recommend
Prof. Hurtado has great lectures and is very engaging. I feel like psych/sociology lectures can get boring and teachers just read off of slides, but she always incorporates videos, examples and tries to prove things by getting you to interact and be thoughtful. Four exams, with an optional final for extra credit. Great course and a great professor.
Professor Hurtado's lectures are super interesting and you learn a lot. Her tests cover a lot of material but it's open notes. You definitely should still study though. The final is optional and replaces your lowest test grade if you take it or won't count if you didn't do good on it. I'd for sure recommend her and this class.
Social psych super cool topic. Attendance taken on random days but i believe it was sometimes extra credit or something? Large class, but she'd answer questions pretty honestly/thoroughly and be available after class. On time, prepared, and organized/knowledgeable about her topic. HW and exams all online MCQ asynchronous.
everyone says this abt alot of profs but she's genuinely one of the best profs at UM. take her. you get a cheat sheet for exams and the lecture's are very entertaining. this class was rlly fun and i learned a lot
she is literally my favorite professor. SO sweet and caring. gives cheat sheet for all 3 exams and optional final to replace lowest exam grade. tests are easy if you listen to lectures. genuinely cares so much about her students and is very accessible! 100% take her
very sweet. attendence every few weeks. class was super easy. can bring a cheat sheet to exams. lots of textbook, but you dont really have to read, just answer questions.
Great professor. Easy class, super nice professor. Just pay attention every once in a while and you'll be fine. For tests, you're allowed to have a cheat sheet front and back unlike other psych professors.
Super great professor i loved her. Attendance was given as extra credit and there were a few other small extra credit things too. She allows one sheet (front and back) of notes either handwritten or typed for each exam and the final was optional. The exams are 100% more the lecture than the book, the homework doesnt help much but her slides do.
Incredibly knowledgeable and passionate professor. The course is all lectures, but they're interesting and she makes them fun/engaging a lot of the time. There was extra credit and the final was optional to replace a lower test score. I will totally take her classes again in the future
Super sweet, gives extra credit for attendance and has other extra credit. Cheat sheet for the exams as well as a study guide. Just pay attention and do the study guide and you should do really well in this class.
