Mrs. Cook is a shining light from Heaven above. It is obvious that she knows what she's talking about. She holds high expectations for her students (class attendance, work ethic, etc.), but she honestly wants you to succeed. She gives a lot (emphasis on a lot) of bonus assignments, and responds to emails promptly. Take her if you want to succeed!
Horrible just like all Chem professors at LSU. You have to put in a lot of time outside of class studying, going to SI sessions, etc. However, a good grade is attainable, and she makes up for not speaking clear English with bonus points.
Professor Cook is a great teacher, and with a moderate amount of studying it is very possible to do well in the class. She gives quite a bit of bonus in the form of in-class questions and take-home quizzes. Her accent is not a problem either.
She is my favorite professor through freshman year at LSU. Very friendly and helpful, and she seems to genuinely care about her students. It also doesn't hurt that she gives approximately 100 bonus points throughout the semester, allowing you to get an A relatively easily.
Cook is one of the better chemistry teachers. She provides a good base of chemistry, while making the course relatively easy. She gives plenty of opportunities for bonus.
She is a decent teacher but her accent is a large problem. If you have a problem paying attention in class it will be hard to follow her lectures. She gives clicker points which help, but overall would recommend taking another teacher.
Don't take her if you want an easy A! It's an easy B and she gives about 7.5 total points of bonus, but the A is still difficult. Her accent is very good and shouldn't hinder anyone. If your phone rings, you're done for. Also, apparently if you o to her during office hours, she'll get mad if your question can be found in the textbook. Not too nice.
I loved this class and Dr. Cook, however, it is an extremely difficult class. Need to study days before the exam. If you struggle with chem, don't take Cook. She takes basic understanding to a whole new level on her tests, which means really learning GenChem. She gives PLENTY of bonus and curves tests, though, so an A is definitely possible.
General Chemistry is not the hardest material in the world. However, i had an extremely good high school teacher, so i knew a good amount of the material already. If you consider yourself generally good at chemistry and you study you will most likely get a B or an A. She does give a lot of bonus opportunities but her tests are time strict.
Dr. Cook is very serious about her chemistry. I personally didn't care for the class because sometimes she just assumes you know things. Overall though I had to work really hard and it made me better in the long run.
Dr. Cook is very knowledgeable about Chemistry, but she moves through chapters very fast and assumes that you know a lot of the stuff she is talking about. To pass make sure you do a lot of reading the book and studying outside of the class. Her tests are pretty difficult as well. This class was very hard for me.
Professor Cook explains certain subjects well, but she flips through the lectures fast, so this is why she expects you to read the book before lectures. She is very knowledgeable about Chemistry, but her exams are challenging.
I really enjoyed Dr. Cook's class this past semester. You can tell she's passionate about chemistry and that she enjoys teaching it. She's very helpful, kind, and gives a lot of bonus opportunities. You have to study though, her tests are extremely tricky. It's a challenging class, but I recommend it to those who want to learn.
I LOVE Dr. Cook. She's hilarious and fun, and the lectures are informative. Her tests are really hard, but if you do all of the practice questions and use the book, you'll be fine! She gives an entire letter grade of bonus if you take advantage of it. Love her, and taking her again next semester.
Dr. Cook was a really good teacher, but the class was difficult. The tests are pretty hard even if you understand the material well. Lots of application. Her explanations made sense for most of the material. Just be ready to work hard for this class. Don't try to do all the homework the night before its due.
Dr. Cook is an extremely difficult teacher. She definitely makes you work for your grade. However, she gives so much bonus and takes into consideration your participation at the end of the semester, so an A is definitely possible. I would recommend this class if you need to learn Chemistry extremely well.
She grades by total points, meaning every point counts. Her tests were very difficult, but if you did well on the homework and bonus work, it made up for it. Bonus included in class clicker questions (go to class!), take home quizzes, and extra credit on homework. The most bonus is offered in the beginning of the semestr, so take advantage of it!
Dr. Cook is a hardcore professor. You HAVE to study for her exams WAY in advance to do well. She takes understanding the material to a whole new level. But she is the best chem professor @ LSU. I absolutely admire her. She is so knowledgable. She gives an unbelievable amount of bonus & is super helpful if you go to her & make an effort to do well.
She is a tough professor, but worth it. She makes you work, think, and problem solve. Whatever grade you end up with is probably the grade you honestly deserve. I would definitely recommend taking her if chemistry is crucial to your major. If you're a lazy bum who doesn't want to put in the work don't waste her time.
Dr. Cook is a good teacher, but if you do not go to the SI sessions then you won't pass. If you do go then you will get an A. Simple as that
Dr. Cook is a tough teacher, but as my orientation leader told me "You can take Kolniak and get an easy A and not learn or you can take Cook and be prepared for med school with maybe a lower grade." He was right, because when the group final hit I easily made a 100 and my Kolniak friends made Cs. Quit reading and take Cook right this minute.
It was definitely my hardest class. I did not make an A on any test. If you want to pass, you better read the book, go to SI sessions, and make sure you know even the smallest of details (you can be sure she'll ask tiny details on the test). Homework assignments every week. Not very helpful and kind of mean outside of class.
Dr. Cook is an amazing professor! I hated chemistry coming into this class, but by the end of the semester I actually thought it was alright. Her tests are challenging, because she never repeats questions from past exams and is very conceptual based. She is very helpful during office hours and there is a TON of extra credit that you can do.
She is easily the best professor for Chem 12011202. Most people I knew were taking Kolniak, making As and alot of Bs. I was making easy As in Cook because even though her tests were a bit harder, she actually taught the material. That way you were prepared to take your test and ace it. Plus, she freaking cool--go to her office hours.
Dr. Cook is a really good teacher. You might struggle on her tests, but you'll leave the class really knowing the material. She gives a lot of bonus if you work for it. Would definitely take her again, she's very witty.
Best way to ace her class? Know every concept forwards and backwards. Her classes are interesting and she gives bonus clicker questions. Her tests are extremely tough and require critical thinking. Sometimes expected us to read the book but it isn't really necessary to do well. SI will be extremely helpful. She gives a good bit of bonus.
Dr. Cook is very organized with her notes and everything, but you'll have to read the textbook to do well. Going to SI is highly recommended! Her exams are not something you can blow off, try to study a little everyday till the exam (metacognition, lol). Final was tough, but had a super nice curve. Also, she gives lots of bonus, but she's hard.
Dr. Cook's exams are the toughest test I have taken. She makes the honors class much more challenging than gen chem. She really makes you work for your grade and you have to invest a big chunk of time into it. If you're not ready to eat breathe and live chemistry I would recommend someone else. You will walk out knowing chemistry though.
Cook's lectures & notes are easy unlike her brutal tests so use TX. I did not miss one class, lived in the tutoring center & SI sessions, but still struggled badly. If you had chem AP in high school you'll be fine, but if not beware. Don't take her if you'll need office hours even once- she's rude to an unnecessary degree & highly unprofessional.
Dr. Cook is a very good professor. She will go over the the information if you ask her to. Her tests are though if you don't study and work hard. She also gives a pretty good amount of homework, but also offers a lot of bonus on the homework and in class. You can achieve an A if you work for it.
Dr. Cook is an awesome teacher. If you aren't willing to put a lot of work into her class, you won't do well. But, if you study, do the homework and extra credit, you can pass very easily. She gives so much bonus it's almost impossible to not at least have a B at the end of the semester. She's really funny and you can tell that she loves chemistry.
Dr. Cook's class is definitely difficult. She will make you work hard for the grade you want. She gives a lot of bonus, but it really depends on whether or not you are willing to put in a significant amount of time out of class for chemistry. It's worth it still because you will have a great background for upcoming chemistry courses.
Dr. Cook expects you to know more than she actually teaches.
Dr. Cook was my favorite professor this semester! She clearly points out which sections you need to learn on your own and expects you to study A LOT for her exams. They are only 20 questions and are worth 150 points, so if you miss 3 you get a B. She gives over an entire letter grade of extra credit, so it isn't too hard to do well in this class.
Dr. Cook is a great teacher! You will leave the class knowing chemistry very well, BUT it's not an easy course! I tested out of it and have seen the material before, and I still get B's and C's. Her tests have a lot of critical thinking questions, and she really makes you work hard. She gives a lot of bonus, so an A in the class is possible!
Dr. Cook knows what she's talking about almost to a fault, it's hard to keep up if chemistry isn't your strong point. You can buy her notes to follow along with in class but you're going to need a textbook to refer to. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!! It is the only reason I have a B and not a C. the SI sessions help a lot too. Dr. Cooks pretty funny too.
Dr. Cook is an excellent professor. She knows what she is talking about and explains concepts well, often using analogies. However, what she teaches in class vs. our homework and exams is completely different. She expects so much more out our homework and exams than she teaches. However, she gives a lot of bonus. DO IT! You'll need it!!
Did not take AP Chemistry in high school and came into this class completely unprepared. Studied for nights on end only to make 65% on her exams. You must know every ounce of material thoroughly as the exam questions are meant to trick you. Although the work I put in has probably prepared me for higher chem courses, the dent in my GPA doesn't help.
Cook's class was one I thought I'd like... Thought. The tests were very difficult and her lecture notes didn't cover all the material on the tests. If you aren't in a major related to chemistry like petroleum or chemical engineering, I would not recommend.
Cook is a very hard teacher, but i went to the si sessions and learned the information I needed to know. You will have to put in the work to do well. Test are very challenging, but she gives over 100 pts in extra credit. DO THEM ALL! I made a 65, 70, 80, and 95 on the exams and still finished with a regular A in the class.
Dr. Cook is a wonderful professor and does a decent job at teaching chemistry. BEWARE, if you did not take AP chemistry in high school, be prepared to work your butt off while those who did take it in high school glide by with an A-. Study. Study. Study. Everyday. Every concept. I'm 100% sure she gave us (Fall '15) some of her hardest tests ever.
Dr. Cook is one of the most put together professors I've encountered- very meticulous about class schedule/lightning fast email responses/very clear syllabus. Lecture note templates are great and posts exam keys right after exams. Amazing teacher, but challenging. Quirky sense of humor and all around caring lady. Do all the bonus.
Dr. Cook knows a lot about Chemistry but does not know how to teach it well to her students. I went to all of the SI sessions, every class, and never missed a homework and still failed to make above a 65 on any of her tests. Her tests are the hardest I have ever experienced. She does not care if you fail. She takes pride in being the hardest.
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! It will save your grade, I promise. Even if you don't do well on the four exams, she gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities to get points back. Also, it is possible to do well on the exams. I got a 100 on the first and last exams, but I got a 50 on the third exam. If you want to do well, you must work for it.
Cook is an amazing teacher, shes really tough and her tests are really hard but she prepares you for the final. She gives lots of extra credit which help a lot and she is always ready to help if you need it!
Her class is like a waterfall of extra credit in the form of clicker questions everyday, end of online homework questions, and end of chapter take home quizzes (usually easy) She has some of the hardest exams even though they are all multiple choice. Bring 20 dollars for the first day of class to buy her notes. textbook was helpful occasionally
Renowned as the hardest tester on campus, but you probably won't do as bad on the final after her tests, so I hear. You have plenty of extra credit opportunity, but that's because you need it to pass. Don't skip homework or studying for this course and go to the SI sessions. This is probably one of the hardest professors you'll have.
Cook is the hardest class I've ever taken. The material is extremely hard and in her long lectures it's really hard to stay focused. She gives homework about every week and the tests are near impossible. However, she'll help you if you go to her office hours and since the final is department made, her tests make it seem not that bad.
Dr. Cook is a great teacher, I would recommend her if you are any type of science major because you will learn. However, her tests are extremely difficult you have to know all concepts inside and out. But she does give a lot of bonus opportunities. I had her for 1201 and am taking her again for 1202. Just be prepared to work!
Dr. Cook obviously knows what she is talking about, and everything makes sense in class when she is teaching, and sometimes it makes sense in the homework too, but her tests are SO HARD. I did really well on the first and last tests, but failed the 2nd and 3rd. Make sure you stay on top of the work and go to all the SI sessions and do ALL BONUS
Tests not that difficult if you study like you are supposed, go to SI. She is by far the most clear and best professor to take Chemistry! Other professors read slides. She actually explains and gets you to learn the material. I actually learn during the class, not just being shown slides. Offers bonus (not chem-demo) and grades with total points.
Dr. Cook is a very good teacher, she's great at explaining and if you go to her office hours she is more than helpful. But be aware the her test are pretty difficult, specifically honors. Unless you already know all of the material from a past class you will have to study and pay attention in lecture. HER BONUS IS AMAZING. go to class and get it!!!
Her class is a lot of effort but worth it. She actually teaches the concepts and makes sure you understand what you are doing. Her tests are tough but she usually goes over how to prepare for and ace her tests by giving you a suggested study plan. She gives lots of bonus, too! I feel like she is actually preparing me for the final.
She has a great personality while teaching the class and she teaches it very well. One of the only teachers that sells very helpful note templates that follow her lectures.
Tests are more high-stake than 1421 and require much critical thinking (fewer questions, still 150 pts). Lecture note templates very helpful as always. You will learn so much in this class, but it is challenging. Work hard and do all the bonus (so much bonus)!! Definitely utilize SI and office hours as well.
Dr. Cook is awesome! Her lectures and lecture notes are very helpful. She actually teaches the concept instead of the surface. The tests are high-stake (15 questions, 150 points); however, if you study as you're supposed to, you'll be fine. Homework is on Mastering Chemistry. DO THE BONUS!!!! The bonus (about a letter grade) will definitely help!
This was a wonderful class. She is an amazing teacher, and really all you have to do is show up to class ACTIVELY pay attention, go home re read the notes (everyday or every other day), do some practice homework problems from the book if the required mastering chem HW isn't enough, and you will do well on her tests. Do not memorize; UNDERSTAND.
She gives extra credit. Do the extra credit.
Good teacher. Clicker points save you. Tough grader and hard tests but prepares you for Organic Chemistry.
Cook was a great teacher, she lectured a lot, but taught the information well, and the homework was easy and not super frequent. Definitely caring and really works to make sure students succeed.
Cook is a good professor and she teaches the material well. There is a fair amount of homework but easily manageable. The tests are hard but if you pay attention in class (the whole time), it should be a breeze to pass.
She is a great teacher. However, this is a class for students who want to learn. She gives A LOT of extra credit. Buying her lecture notes is a must. Show up to class everyday to get bonus clicker questions & notes. She is friendly. Don't expect to walk out early. NO PHONES is a huge rule of hers. If it rings you will be kicked out.
If you have Not taken Chem in highschool or Not pursuing Chem major this is Not the teacher for you. Dr. Cook teaches Chem 1 on a microscopic level and wants you learn the problems 3 different ways as a form of mastering it instead of the basics needed. Gives bonus, but is NEEDED to pass her hard test. Will need the book to fill in gaps from class.
I thought Cook was really difficult, then I took Organic chemistry. Her class is no where near as difficult as that! Take Cook if you want to both get ready for ochem and see if you have what it takes to make it through ochem. Dr. Cook will challenge you, but is always there to help and she really is the best gen chem professor!
If you don't have a good background in Chem then don't take her. Me and a few others dropped her class right after the second test. She gives a bunch of bonus but her tests are extremely hard and require a lot of time.
Dr. Cook was a fantastic teacher. Her lecture template notes alone make her class great. She gives a ton of bonus points through homework and clicker questions that it is difficult not to get a B or higher in the class. You MUST study hard and in advance for her tests. But even if you fail one test, with all of the bonus, you are still able to pass
Dr. Cook is am amazing teacher, but you will have to do a lot of extra work for this class. Tests are very hard and high risk, but she gives a lot of extra credit, so passing is very easy. I don't recommend taking this class if you do not have a very strong chemistry background, but if you have a strong chemistry background take the class!
She gives homework every week, but is willing to push back due dates. Lots of extra credit included in homework and daily clicker questions. Her test are hard and she does not usually curve any of them. All in all she is a great teacher if you are willing to work for your grade.
Lectures were kind of boring if you're a more advanced student. Cook knows her stuff, though, and gives a ton of extra credit. Sometimes she's kind of snarky and lectures the class about how dumb they are, but she cares a lot and is willing to help you as long as you do all your work and study hard. I never touched my book, though. It's all online.
Bonus, bonus, and more bonus. If you get Chemistry or have taken AP CHEM in high school and did well, I highly recommend her. Her test can be easy or it can be hard, but if you already have knowledge from previous chem courses it shouldn't boggle you down. On top of that, she gives so much bonus points that making an A+ is not a struggle.
Dr. Cook is amazing! She is by far the best chemistry professor at LSU. Her lectures are awesome, and clicker points add up for bonus at the end of the semester. However, her tests are difficult and tricky. If you haven't taken Chemistry before, you will need to devote more time to this course than the average student. Clicker points are for bonus
Dr. Cook was a very good professor. At the beginning of the year, buy her note packet for $20 and fill it out during the lectures- makes it easier to follow along. Her bonus points are lifesavers. Tests are tough but passable if you put in a lot of effort. Really felt I learned something and am taking her again for Chem 1202.
Pretty good teacher, not too hard as long as you do the online homework and study for the tests. She gives a ton of extra credit if you need it, clicker questions and extra assignments included. I didn't really go too class cause she sells her notes, but definitely study for the tests, and maybe get a little extra credit on the side if you need to.
The material can be pretty tough, and she does teach you on the textbook, even though she doesn't cover all of it, so be prepared to READ. If you keep up with the material, do your homework, and show up for the easy clicker quiz bonus points, an A is totally possible. The tests are pretty difficult, but the bonus points and homework help.
She made the classroom feel like a hostile environment. If you have anxiety, its not fun. She has a policy that you cant ask questions if she already said the answer to them, which is frustrating when you want her to clarify things, and it made me feel too scared to ask questions i shouldve. I dont recommend taking her if you havent taken chem b4
Cook is strict. She makes up for this with wonderful lectures, and she uses different examples to ensure students understand. Her tests are high-difficulty, but if you use the textbook & do the end of chapter questions you'll be fine. She gives TONS of bonus through homework, clickers and quizzes, so it's easy to get over 100%. Overall, great prof!
She really does want you to do well. Offers up to an entire letter grade of credit throughout the semester. She does expect a lot but she explains the material well. Only complaint I have is that she has her regular class buy notes that she gives for free to her honors kids.
Hardest class I've ever taken. Her SI is helpful, but not enough to do relatively well on her tests. Her tests are extremely difficult, that being said she tries to trick you and vigorously challenge you on every question. ONLY TAKE IF YOU ARE CHEM MAJOR!! Otherwise good luck!!
Really tough class overall but this is the prof you need to take if you are premed or you need to know chemistry. Not sympathetic to people that are struggling, but will help you if you come with specific questions. Lots of extra credit because she knows how hard her tests are.
Dr. Cook is by far my favorite professor at LSU so far!!! She is very passionate about what she teaches, and she makes her lectures enjoyable with her witty sense of humor! Plenty of opportunities for extra credit are given. Read the textbook and do the EoC/HW and you should pass her class with no issues. I wish I'd taken her for 1201 as well!
She is an excellent professor. Only downside is her help during office hours, not great but the SI is very helpful. She keeps her lectures fun with good witty humor. EXTRA CREDIT theres lots of it and you should do every bit of it.
If you already have knowledge in chemistry and understand it well take this class!! I only showed up to class for the clicker bonus and used the textbook to teach myself. I ended up with over 100% in the class. She gives over 100 pts in bonus so if you average a B on all of her test, you can still get an A if not A+ in the end.
Hard to understand in lecture. Gives lots of bonus, but exams and final are impossibly difficult.
Tests are impossible and her lectures make no sense. AVOID HER WILL ALL COST.
Her class itself wasn't that hard, but even if you read the book, do the end of chapter problems, and review her notes there is literally no guarantee that you will do well on her exams. I made B- 's on her exams and failed the last one and the final but thankfully ended up with a B-. Its not impossible to make an A but like she's hard.
Very Very Very hard tests, and even if you read her class notes, read the textbooks and practice previous tests, there is still no possibility that you would pass the class. Chem 2 is a very easy material but she makes it look like GREEK, and sorry also if your chemistry background was not solid. Long story short take HOGAN.
She was a lot more difficult for 1422 compared to 1421. She gives tons of bonus to cushion any blunders. I made a 60, 80, 72, 100 and 72 and ended with a B+. Do homework and extra credit. Go to class. Read the textbook even though I didn't. She's a great professor. Really work for test 2.
After Hogan's awesome 1201 class, I had a rough start in Dr. Cook's class (54 on Exam 1). Dr. Cook makes 1202 trickier than it really is (challenging tests and homework), yet this encourages you to go above and beyond with your studying. I eventually realized that textbook problems are essential. Forgiving points system; an A+ is quite possible!
This is a challenging course in general and Dr. Cook does her best to make everything as easy to understand as possible. She's goofy and fun and if you go to class and do the work it shouldn't be hard to do well!
Cook is HARD! She isn't very approachable and she makes of people who don't get the material. You make think you study and do all the homework and you've totally got this and the then the test comes around and you're like have I ever learned this? She thinks everyone in her class wants to be a doctor. And it's not like she actually teaches the well
Good teacher, wants to see students succeed. Need to put in work outside of class if you want to do good. Gives a LOT of bonus if you go to class.
Dr. Cook only cares about her way in class and doesn't respect her students. While her class is already challenging, her demeanor and interactions with students make her impossible to approach. The cliche "partners in learning" doesn't exist with her. She is there to tell you what to do and she believes any alternate yet correct method is wrong.
Makes the material clear and easy to understand. Gives lots of extra credit
One of the few professors I've had that allow extra credit. Do all of the extra credt and you'll have a lot of flexibility when it comes to exams. Best way to prepare for the exams are with older tests. Lectures can get a little stale from time time time but the course was enjoyable overall.
Well for starters my test average in this class was a 62 so theres that. Tests are like reading a foreign language. Lectures are kind of dry. She kind of expects everyone in the class to already be chemists. She does give a lot of bonus though which helped me get a C overall. Unless you have a super solid AP chem background, I wouldn't recommend.
Without a really solid background in science, this class will be an extreme challenge. She gives a LOT of extra credit which really boosts your grade. However, her tests are next to impossible, they're only 20 questions and each question tests about 5 different concepts within itself. Be ready to put in a lot (!!!!) of work if u want a good grade.
Cook is one of the harder chem professors at LSU, but per passion for chemistry shines through her lectures, which really helps you grasp the information. she offers SO MUCH BONUS. easy to finish with over a 100% in the class if you read & do all the homework/bonus assignments. tests can be tricky, but old tests are online and those help a lot.
Made the information very clear and is a great choice for a first chem class
Dr. Cook is a wonderful professor. Her tests are fairly difficult and tricky, but it is definitely possible to pass them with hard work. She gives a lot of bonus, which helps your grade a lot. The best part about her class is that she actually helps you understand what is happening in the chemical processes, not just making you memorize formulas.
Dr. Cook is my favorite professor so far. She lectures every class and explains the material very well. Tests are very very difficult because she wants you to have a conceptual understanding of the topics and not just memorizing facts or formulas. She gives tons of bonus, which is very helpful. Make sure to pay attention and go to her office hours.
Even though I performed bad myself, Cook is actually a tough teacher that teaches on her schedule and style. Going up to her and talking to her after class, She will become comfortable and more approachable with you. Her tests are difficult requiring both conceptual and mathematical ability. For me, i find this fun and challenging. (Freshman)
Dr. Cook is a great teacher. Ultimately, the material is pretty easy if you can grasp it quickly enough. She gives A LOT of bonus points which is extremely helpful. She prepares her class very well for the departmental final.
Amazing class with an amazing professor. Tons of extra credit opportunities and she even assigned helpful homework assignments. Fantastic teacher and lecture notes outline the class perfectly.
Dr. Cook is an amazing professor! She has note lecture templates which you can purchase in the beginning of the semester, which organizes the information very well. She gives SO MUCH BONUS, which cushion your grade, and is motivating. Tests are difficult, but study the notes, go to the SI review sessions, and study past exams and you'll be fine!
MAKE SURE to do all the extra credit homework and clickers those points will give you final grade a great boost. I ended up with >100% because of that. Cook's tests are fairly easy if you just know the main concepts, she doesn't give hard questions. studying from her notes and the homework questions is more than enough.
Do not take her for 1202. Take Hopkins, definitely a regret of mine. Hopkins KNOWS how to teach and get students to learn this material effectively; Cook does not whatsoever. She isn't empathetic whatsoever to the fact that this material is difficult. She's mean. I got nothing out of this class. Also, TAKE 1202 WITH THE LAB!!! That would've helped
Dr. Cook is one of my favorite teachers. She is nice and is available outside of class to help students. I went to her office hours once a week and she would work confusing HW problems with me. If you reach out and make an effort, she will go above and beyond to help you. Attend class and do HW assignments for the bonus!!
I hate this lady
Dr. Cook is by far the best professor I have ever had. She is definitely a harsh human being, but I loved her nonetheless. She can seem somewhat "mean" but I promise you she is not. She is one of the few teachers at LSU that actually explains things well. Her tests are hard, but very doable. Please take her. She cares about her students immensely.
Dr. Cook actually cares about her students. You have to go to class or you'll be far behind for the tests. You should go to SI sessions because her tests are very difficult. She gives out so many bonus points that basically carry your grade. The notes she sells in the beginning of the semester are key in passing the class.
She is really hard but learning how to take this class is quite satisfying. If you get good grades on the homework and get as much bonus (clicker questions) right as possible, your grade will be fine. Must study far in advanced. I am taking her again for 1202, which is harder I hear.
Kinda annoying/condescending at times & her 20 question multiple choice tests were ridic since you couldn't get any partial credit for showing your work. Kinda learned chemistry in this class but definitely didn't enjoy it. Also, I did not study at all for the final cuz it was freaking SNEAUXING but that's ok cuz she adds a TON of bonus.
Dr Cook is amazing. Her class is moderately difficult, but she offers so much bonus points. Go to class for clicker questions that end up bumping you an entire letter grade. She has notes you fill in in class, so showing up to class is a good idea.
Dr. Cook was honestly a good professor. Go to class to get clicker points because they are bonus and help your grade a lot. She gives a ton of bonus. I preformed so poorly because my lack of work outside of class, but this class is easily passable if you study. Going to SI will most likely further your understanding for the tests, which are HARD.
Dr. Cook is honestly a really nice person who clearly loves chem and her students. Lots of bonus point opportunities here and if you do the clicker questions (I didnt and I wish I would've) this class is kinda hard to not get a B or above in. The SI Session Study Guides are also a must.
dr cook gave so much extra credit- i ended with above a 100 in her class. she's so nice and caring. the class is tough but wasn't bad as long as you did the work. each homework took FOREVER to complete, but was super beneficial to help you understand, so start it a few days before it's due.
The grade you get depends on the work you put in. However, she gives A LOT of extra credit (15 points for clickers at the end of semester). She explains the material well. The tests can be difficult if don't understand the material (multiple choice but no partial credit). I actually learned chemistry with her and I highly suggest taking her class.
Professor Cook is very nice and accessible outside of class. Her homework is vigorous, and long but I suggest doing them all because homework really saves your grade. She gives a lot of extra credit to help your grade in the end. Her class is tough but if you go to class and do all the homework you should be fine.
Dr. Cook is a great professor. Attending class is not mandatory, but if you want to do well in her class, I would definitely not skip. She gives lots of opportunity for bonus points through extra homeworks and in-class clicker questions. If you really want to excel in this class, definitely read the book and do practice problems.
Take cook!! She is difficult, but she actually teaches you what you need to know. You have to study HARD for her tests, and you may not do too swell on them but she gives sooo much bonus!! It's a grade booster. I took her for 1201 and 1202 and I do not regret it! Ended with an A- in 1201. Still in 1202
Shes such an amazing professor! If youre someone whos going to need school or any other type of school where you need to actually LEARN this material shes the best teacher for it. She gives sooo much bonus too! I made 60s and 70s on all my tests and passed with a B+ just go to the SIs and really understand the homework and youll be good!
She's very difficult. I suggest taking another Professor for chem if you can. Tests are impossible. Study old ones and you can do fine. I didn't know that at the beginning of the semester.
class is not that easy but she gives so. much. extra. credit. I made a 55% on the first test and had a 75% in the class solely from extra credit. Class isn't mandatory but she gives clicker questions all throughout class which are extra credit. She is easy to reach outside of class but can be not very understanding. Study hard for the test
Do not take her if you don't have to. In class, she explains the concepts pretty well and you can understand that but on the test, the questions are much more complicated and are nothing like what she taught us. The only good part about this class is the amount of bonus she gives, DO EVERYTHING because the tests are nearly impossible. Save yourself
Mrs. Cook is by far my favorite chem teacher ever! I learned soooo much in her class. The tests were extremely Easy, If you just look over her notes and the homework assigned. Reading the textbook also helped me better understand some concepts but its really not mandatory. No test grade is dropped but she gives out sooo much extra credit.
Prof Cook is AMAZING. Her lectures are absolutely amazing. Time honestly flew by in her class. She is by far the best chem teacher ever. She is really good at explaining things and going through examples. There is not too much homework. There are 4 exams (15 ?s each) and 1 final (35 ?s). There are TONS of bonus opportunities throughout the semester
Dr. Cook is a really great teacher as long as you go to class and pay attention. Lots of homework, but take your time to really understand it. Read the textbook as you go and do the end of chapter questions, since they prepare you for the exams, which are tough and are most of your grade. Do ALL the bonus, since it helps a ton throughout!
I hated the way she taught and I was always lost in class. It ended up bringing my GPA down so much that I had to drop. Also, make sure your phone never goes off in class. She'll send you out in the middle of a lecture.
Tests are hard with lots of trick questions! She gives a decent amount of bonus through participation in class
Dr. Cook is an amazing professor and is truly passionate about chemistry. Her class isn't a cake walk, and there's a good bit of homework. It's really important to go to class because she does give out extra credit through turning point and will tell you what problems to do in the textbook (will most likely be on the test).
What she teaches you in class is not whats on the test FYI. studied my ass off and knew everything learned I n class and in the homeworks and failed the test. Took 2 test and made 41% & 52%. all the chemistrys here are hard. She gives a lot of info and is a good teacher but her test just arent the same as the class. weekly HW that is just math
DO NOT TAKE COOK, and more in general if you are taking her for 1421, dont take honors science classes in general. You can know 100% of the section concepts and ideas and still get a 70. Her test are convoluted and overly difficult. Way past the scope of a Chem 1 class.
Dr. Cook is an acquired taste. If you don't like chemistry already then beware this class there's tons of homework (andbonus) and a total of 5 exams (including final).Cook herself is an extremely intelligent professor but sometimes all you hear are words coming from her. This class has a lot of calculations and you have to memorize all the formulas
Dr. Cook is amazing, simply put. She allows this course to be challenging while supporting tons of bonus points. Dr. Cook's notes are well comprehensive of the course's material and the homework provides excellent practice for exam problems. While there are other great chemistry professors to take at LSU, make sure you check out Dr. Cook.
Dr. Cook is a good teacher, and I understand chemistry well after leaving her class. However, her tests are so ridiculous that no matter how well I understood the material, I still couldn't pass. Without some kind of chemistry experience in high school, this class is not doable. DO NOT TAKE THIS. Just take 1201 and save your GPA PLEASE.
Dr. Cook is a fantastic professor, but do not take her if you aren't willing to put in loads of work! The SI sessions were very helpful in solidifying the material, so I suggest going! She gives TONS of extra credit with bonus take home quizzes and clicker questions, which help a lot.
Cook is a very intelligent professor, but her teaching style was not for me. My friends who took another professor taught me how to do the math used in chemistry, which I understood more. Cook would be perfect if you already took AP chem in high school and wanted to increase your understanding, but if you did not take AP save your gpa.
She is a great teacher if you are interested in actually learning chemistry. If you go to class everyday, there are lots of bonus opportunities that will help you in the end. Homework online weekly but does not represent how her tests will be like. Tests are very tricky, but she gives so much credit to boost your grade. Hard work but worth it.
Gives SO much bonus it's unimaginable (failed the first test with a 64%, still made it out with an A)! Really great lecturer, really cares, but chemistry can be hard so you do have to work for it sometimes. However, with a change in effort, I made As or high Bs on the rest of the tests. Really up to you
Dr. Cook is great. She gives lots of bonus. I've made Bs on the tests and have an A. Also, I accidentally forget that we had a test and missed exam 4 during the whole pandemic whatever and I told her that I completely messed up, and she gave me an excused absence, and averaged my first three tests for exam four. She's a real gem.
Great professor for honors chemistry. You have to put in time outside of class and the tests can be tough but she gives lots of extra credit to help. She was very helpful and accommodating in the transition to online classes.
Dr. Cook is the best professor I've ever had! The class is vigorous, but her teaching makes it so enjoyable! She is available to answer questions out of class and really cares about student success! Put in effort to do textbook problems and go to SI sessions for extra practice so that you can do the tough problems in under 2-3 minutes for the exam.
Dr. Cook is a very knowledgeable professor. However, her class was very difficult. First time in my life I ever got below an A. When I went to office hours for help, she passive aggressively called me stupid and irresponsible. I never went back. I have never cried more over a class like seriously... take someone else.
Cook is not an awful teacher, but only take her honors class if you are fluent in chemistry. By fluent, I mean do not TOUCH this class unless you have taken AP in high school. Her tests are hard, and she glazes over "simple" material (this is an honors class). Her regular chem class has easier tests. Be prepared to study. A lot.
Dr. Cook is an amazing professor. She gives out note templates that make reviewing for tests very convenient. She explains things very clearly. The amount of extra credit given is ridiculous. I finished this class with a 114 A+. Take her if you can.
Dr. Cook was my favorite professor of freshman year. Her lectures can be a bit monotonous at times, but she makes up for them with her quirky humor and in-class bonus. Complete every bonus opportunity because the tests are quite difficult. If you are looking to learn chemistry while maintaining a good GPA, Dr. Cook is the professor for you.
I wouldn't have gotten an A in her class without the significant amount of the bonus points I got from her clicker questions. take home quizzes, and homework. I barely understood anything she said since she tends to be extremely superfluous about chemistry content. Her tests didn't reflect what she taught in lecture so prepare for that.
Dr. Cook's classes are not easy by any stretch, but they are effective. Her tests are very challenging, but there are enough of them that if you bomb one you still have a chance at a good grade. However, if you slack off after doing well in the first of the course, you will do poorly trying to catch up, as she moves through units really quickly.
Professor Cook was pretty cool. The only way i passed her class was because of her bonus point because I flunked both her first test. DO THE BONUS ASSIGNMENTS and clicker bonus questions they help a lot
If you pay attention in Cook's classes you will end up wil a solid foundation to build upon, as well as a good grade. Make sure to do bonus assignments to guarantee a decent grade, although the exams are not too difficult.
Tests are tough so you definitely have to put in the work to pass but on the bright side, she offers so much extra credit. Almost every homework assignment we had included at least 2-3 extra credit points. Also gives bonus quizzes if the class does overwhelmingly badly on an exam as a whole. Super sweet woman, I'm taking her again for CHEM1202.
Professor Cook is a wonderful teacher who goes in depth on material in the prerecorded lectures. The textbook helps, but it's not really necessary. Exams aren't too bad, and she does give lots of bonus opportunities. She's very accessible through Zoom office hours. Solid choice.
DO NOT listen to anyone that says Prof. Cook is bad. She is BY FAR my favorite professor I've had this semester. Her lecture videos are easy to understand, the tests are no harder than the homework, and she give SO MANY extra points. People that think she is a bad teacher just don't try. You have to put in effort, but if you do, it's an easy A.
I personally liked her. Although it's my first year of college, she's the best I had so far. She was pretty funny and let the zoom meetings interesting. We met once a week but she had us watch multiple lecture videos every week which aren't bad at all. The class overall was a bit challenging but I she explained everything pretty well.
Professor Cook was my favorite professor of the semester! She is one of my only professors who adapted well to online learning, and she records herself teaching every lesson. Her tests are very straightforward and working through the recommended exercises proved to be very helpful. She gives lots of bonus points that can raise your grade a letter!
Dr. Cook is a very nice lady. Without the pandemic, I think it'd be very easy to get to know her. The class is difficult, but she gives you so many opportunities for extra credit. Make sure you go to the recitations. She is very easy to reach by email and is very happy to help you in office hours. You have to work for your grade but you can do it.
This is probably one of the best Chem 1201 teachers, I absolutely loved the way she ran her class. Even though I didnt need it, there were always times to meet w/ her or the SI for questions abt Hmwk or whatever.
You pre recorded videos and then had recitations once a week. This made it very hard to keep up and easy to fall behind. If you need more structure I would not recommend taking her online. The test need to be studied for at least 2-3 days before. The homework takes a lot of time but she offers plenty of EC I made a 66 on an exam and still got an A
I took this class during Fall 2020 under COVID-19 restrictions. There were a lot of lecture videos, but the information was fairly well presented. The tests are fairly hard, but she gives a bunch of bonus. There is a decent amount of homework, but if you stay on top of it, it is not that bad.
Chem 1202 sucks but it has nothing to do with Dr. Cook. She knows chemistry isnt for everyone and that this class is required. The amount of extra credit given will get you to atleast a C in the class if you fail everything else. I honestly really recommend taking her regardless of what you hear just because of the amount of extra credit she gives
Its not Dr. Cook, its chemistry in general. You can fail every exam and still get a C in the class because the amount of extra credit she gives randomly plus after every test. She cares about her students and knows chem is not for everyone. I wish she taught things differently but its online so there are not too many options.
Cook has pretty hard tests, put she gives SO MUCH bonus! Each homework you can get about 2 points of extra credit, which piles up quick. If you do alright on exams (85%) you can get over a 100% in her class. Her exams are really hard though, but she is a joy
I would recommend this to anyone confident in their chemistry abilities. It's not easy, she'll make you work for it, but your chemistry understanding by the end will be great. Usually 4 tests and lots of bonus on homeworks so bombing one test isn't the end of the world. Keeping up with lectures is essential.
Great professor. Take Dr Cook if you can. She stressed a lot with our class but overall she is a very organized and straight forward professor who gives a solid amount of extra credit.
She is smart and funny but does not put up with bs. If you just need a few more points to pass, nope. She gives plenty of bonus opportunities, so if your grade is shy of good, that is your own doing. All and all, great teacher.
I took 1421 and did great. Took 1422 thinking I'd have the same experience. WRONG. Her attitude took a turn for the worse. The content got exponentially harder. When I went to her for help, she didn't really have anything helpful to say which was super frustrating. Extra credit saved my life. No earthly idea how I ended with A. Glad it's over.
i had to drop this class because it was impossible to pass her test no matter how hard you study!! Its so hard, dont recommend if your not a textbook fan because that is your only hope
Cook is an extremely nice professor, but of course she is teaching chemistry so the material is hard. She balances this out by giving bonus on every single homework assignment. Also if your class bombs a test like my class did, she will give you a bonus assignment afterwards to soften the blow.
Dr. Cook is a very tough professor. Chemistry can be a difficult topic for some, and I wouldn't rely on her for extra help. Clicker questions for bonus points every day, and many bonus opportunities. Tests are VERY HARD, and often don't line up with the homework, and I went to SI sessions, tutoring, and office hours.
Although her chemistry classes are extremely difficult, she is a fantastic professor that exceeded my expectations! Super helpful to students she knows are working hard. ExtraCredit "quizzes" offered during classes that are super helpful towards the end of the semester. 10/10 would take her again, make sure to get on her good side and she will help
Dr. Cook's honors class is extremely challenging. Her tests are very very hard. She expects a lot from her honors students, but I genuinely believe that her honors class prepares students very well for future chemistry classes. Also, she gives lots of bonus that will make up for lower test grades. Her bonus is the only reason I ended up with an A.
never went to class. got a 49% on first exam (didnt study). never did better than a 82 on an exam, but she gives so many bonuses and other grades that i still finished with an A. shes great. just learn the material
Honors Cook is a very good class to take for those who have previous experience in Chemistry or are on a Pre-Med/Science/Engineering Route. Even her honors class is heavy in bonus points and she posts all lectures online. A good 1/5 of the class had over a 100 before the Final. She doesn't grade hard or have harder tests than the material covered.
Great class, lectures were extremely helpful. Exams were difficult but she gives a lot of extra credit to make up for it.
Your best bet is to already understand chemistry because she teaches it like you know everything. I was so confused this semester and hardly learned anything. Chemistry is already confusing and she makes it more confusing.
Although Chemistry is a hard course in general, Dr. Cook provides a lot of extra credit to boost your grade up. It's normal for most students to fail the first exam, but it's easy to improve as long as you practice the homework problems and keep up with the lecture template notes. Be prepared to memorize math formulas and rules.
Dr. Cook is an excellent teacher! Highly recommend. Her lectures are organized and informative. The tests are hard, but there are lots of bonus opportunities.
Cook doesn't tolerate slack or bs. Very important to keep up with your work or you will fall behind quick. Every class goes till the end so don't expect to leave early. Doing the homework really helps with your grade and so does clicker questions for bonus.
Professor Cook is a fantastic teacher. Make sure to attend lectures; reading the textbook helps out a lot. She gives extra credit. As long as you attend class and put in some effort, you will pass.
I love Dr. Cook, but her class is a tough one. She will always be there for you to help you with any topic, but you need to put in the equal effort that she puts out. Her extra credit saved me and she genuinely wants every student to succeed.
She takes attendence through the extra credit questions during her lectures. So up to you. She is good at explaining material. I did have to study hard. The second test was the hardest. More math heavy. She posts lecture videos online along with practice problems from the book. You can do practice hmwk for extra credit. LOTS of ways to study.
Dr.Cook was lecture heavy, she goes through her notes with a slight accent which isn't too bad. I personally did not do well to her teaching style. The exams are similar to the practice tests, but homework is hard to pass some of it has nothing to do with what weren't learning. If you like being challenged go for her cause she slightly difficult.
Dr. Cook is such a sweetheart. Even though her class made me want to drop out of college, she made me laugh every day in class. My problem with this class is I brushed it to the side. She gives countless bonus opportunities and gives you all the tools to get an A, you just have to put the work in.
Great professor especially if you're going to be taking further chemistry after 1202. You have to learn the material to succeed and she is a great teacher. She also gives lots of bonus pint opportunity in a class and bonus assignments that help you learn, and get bonus. Her test are tough but doable and the bonus helps balance it out!!
Dr. Cook is one of the best professors that LSU has to offer. 1201 and 1202 are relatively hard classes, but can be easily passed if the right amount of work is put in. She will turn you into a good student and show you what it takes to succeed. If you are struggling with the class, she is extremely willing to help out. Overall, a very nice lady.
Took her for both 1201 and 1202. Exams are very hard but the extra credit offered makes up for it. Really good lectures and the Chem book is very useful for studying. Final exam is very easy compared to her exams as Hopkins writes it. If you have a friend in Hopkins study with them for final, he basically gives free answers on his final exam review
I took Dr. Cook for 1421 and 1422. She was by far the best lecturer and communicator I've ever had, and made sure we were always aware of what was coming up. Tests were difficult and very application based, but she offers plenty of extra credit in compensation. She thinks of her kids as her children and genuinely wants you to succeed.
Cook for 1201 was good, good lectures and homework weren't bad. 1202 was painful, very hard and homework was a pain to get through had to drop the course and ended up changing majors due to difficulty. Make sure you really prep for anything in her class.
Dr. Cook was an amazing professor. She cares about her students and their success in her class. Her exams are pretty hard, however, she gives a hefty amount of extra credit. DO THE DYNAMIC STUDY MODULES! They will help you do the problems faster on the exam, and a lot of the exams have questions like the DSM's on them. Also, they are for bonus!
Cannot say enough good things about Dr. Cook. I took 1421+1422, she graded fairly and gave bonus often. She is entertaining even when the topic is dry (often for me). Aim for the best you can do on homework, in case you slip up on the test. If you put in the work and you will definitely pass and maybe get that B or A! Take her class at all cost.
Dr. Cook seems intimidating; but she is amazing She has very clear easy to follow lectures if you buy the lecture notes guide (DO IT. I know its 20$ it is by far the best 20$ you will spend) DSM's are straight bonus, most hw have bonus questions. Do the DSM's, they are great practice and give bonus. I averaged a 93 on tests and ended with a 108.
I loved Dr. Cook's class. I did not learn anything in 1201, and when I took 1202 with Cook I learned so much! Her lectures were very clear. Doing the homework and going to class will help you get a good grade in this class. I definitely recommend Cook. She is amazing!
Shes a really nice lady but it takes a while to get used to figuring how to prepare/ study for her exams. By the time you figure out how to study for it, it'll be too late to bring your grade up
the tests are worth most your grade. a ton of extra credit. a great professor, just really hard tests. a decent amount of homework, but it helps. is clear about what should be done in the textbook/not covered in class. buy the printed notes! i loved her as a person, but her class was very hard for me :(. go to SI as often as you can
If there is one thing you must do at LSU as a STEM major, is to take Dr. Cook for every class you can. She is so good I cannot put it into words but ill try my best. Amazing at explaining things, so much bonus, tests aren't too bad as long as you study a decent amount. Best professor I've had. Single handedly made me love and understand chemistry
AMAZING!! Chem can be difficult, but she gives plenty of extra credit during class & on homework. Explains things very thoroughly with good examples. You can tell she really cares about her students. She always responded to my emails within about 15 minutes. Had to do a little reading outside of the in-class material, but really not much.
Professor Cook often spent the entire class lecturing from a powerpoint. Even though she explained things well, I found it hard to keep up with her. Her tests were more difficult than the homework assignments, though. She also gives extra credit but you have to pay for the system. Overall, an okay professor but a very hard class.
Dr. Cook's class is the most frustrating class I have ever taken, where the amount of work you put in truly doesn't pay off. No matter how much you study, the tests still somehow look foreign for the most part and are nearly impossible to do well on. She gives a lot of bonus though so I ended up with an A. But try to avoid Cook!!
Dr. Cook was a really hard professor. I really struggled in her class. She is very accessible outside of class. I went to almost every office hour. Her tests are just hard, and there is not enough time to take them. Her class is a lot of work.
I LOVED Dr. Cook. While her class is challenging and requires effort, an A+ is achievable. My advice is the do every bonus opportunity!! Make sure to learn these skills instead of cheating. Also, make sure to actively understand the content that is being presented in class. I found that dong the pre-lecture textbook readings helped a lot!
If you have to take chem, take Dr. Cook. I was in her honors chem 1, and it was difficult, but she offers a lot of extra credit on the homework. There is no such thing as an easy chemistry class, but Dr. Cook makes the course bearable.
The tests were very hard to where she had to give insane amounts of bonus to help our grades. I was a straight A student until this class.
I really enjoyed Dr. Cooks class. She helped spark my interest in chemistry. I am very bad at chemistry, but once you figure out how to study you are golden. She does have a lot of homework, but she also offers a lot of extra credit. Her exams are very difficult, so you have to learn to study. She is super awesome though! Definitely recommend!
She is an application based prof and wants to challenge you more on the exams. The grade breakdown is 4 Exams (125 pts each), 1 Final (200 pts), & Homework (300 pts). Exams are nothing like the homework or lecture notes. Her template lecture notes cost 25$ and are highly recommended. You also have to pay for the extra credit. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!

be prepared to teach yourself as she goes through content quite fast during lecture. her exams are harder compared to other professors but she does give lots of bonus opportunities. as long as you dedicate a decent amount of time to preparing for this class, you should be fine. i ended up with a 103 and failed the first two exams.
Dr. Cook cares so much about her students and is such an amazing teacher. She gives so much bonus that I had over 100% in the class at one point, and truly is so helpful in office hours. The best chem teacher you could ever get, makes a difficult subject much easier to grasp.
Highly recommend reading the textbook before lectures and prioritize doing textbook practice problems before exams, some exam questions come straight from textbook. Her tests are not straightforward so you really need to understand the topics in depth, the DSM's and textbook practice help w that. Buy the notes and Point Solution its worth it.
I had her for CHEM 1421 & 1422 and did much better in 1421. If you make time for studying, go to SI, and read the textbook it should go well. I did not do that well in 1422 and found myself doing poorly on some exams. Pro tip: use as many resources as possible to make sure you know calculations AND theory, especially for acid-base equilibria.
I took honors chemistry 1 and 2 with Dr. Cook and i would absolutely recommend her for anyone that has to take chemistry. Attendance is not mandatory, but her lectures are very beneficial and match the note template she gives out. She also gives out so much extra credit.
Dr. Cook is tough but I got a D on my first exam and finished with an A-. Gave lots of extra credit and the homework's plus extra practice work done really helped me succeed in finishing the class strong. Make sure to pay attention in class or she'll notice.
She was a really nice teacher and gave out an insane amount of extra credit. She probably only gave so much extra credit because the tests were really hard. Spent too long stressing about the tests.
Gives a lot of extra credit, which you should treat as mandatory. The homeworks were hard and she often gave two in one week which was overwhelming, so be ready for that, but I recommend taking her. Tests reflect what is taught. The final is pretty much impossible so spend your time studying for other finals. Go to and pay attention in class.
Be prepared to spend at least an hour a night working on homework and DSM's. Cook is a good professor, but her tests are very hard and the class is pretty heavy on homework. She does have a lot of bonus point opportunities which helps a bit, but your grade is mainly based on your test performance.
Her lectures usually feel like they aren't too fast or too slow unlike a lot of other professors and she makes it super clear what you do and do not need to know. Homework isn't too overwhelming but its more than other classes, plus she provides a lot of at home problems you can pull up from the book for practice. I like her teaching; SO much bonus
solid teacher. mad extra credit so do homework and your pretty set. past a certain point in the course work I really just stopped caring so my grade dipped a bit but she is good at what she does.
I hated her at first and thought she was mean bc when I asked her a simple question, she pounced on me bc it was answered on the syllabus. Traumatizing. She's actually nice and funny tho and she wants you to succeed... doesn't mean you will, but she wants you to. Do all the bonus. Try not to fail the tests as they make up most of the grade.
Honestly her class wasn't that bad, just be prepared to fail your first exam and do fine on the rest.
Dr. Cook was a great professor to have. Her tests are super hard, but the amount of bonus given evens out. If you do every bonus opportunity and TRY on the tests, you will end up with a satisfying grade. She is a funny and caring professor, even when she gives students a hard time. Definitely take Cook if you want to learn.
I am not a fan of Chemistry, but that was only because I didn't have good teachers in the past. Mrs. Cook explains the material clearly, and makes the course not as bad as I thought.
Elzbieta a real one. She teaches more like a high school chem teacher than a college professor but it makes the material feel so straightforward. She gives SO MUCH extra credit so I only need an 85 on the final to get an A+. She's also super sarcastic and comes off as rude but it's just humor. She also doesn't care if u go to class if u do well.
LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. Good professor overall but tests and homework are really hard.
If you skip class, you will fail. Tests and homeworks are very difficult, but she gives loads of bonus opportunities. She is an excellent teacher and is super funny.
Tests are very hard!! She gives out lots of extra credit but be prepared to spend a lot of time outside class on homework. Part of the extra credit is from in class questions. Had to pay $25 for her lecture notes and about another 20 smth on her extra credit program.
VERY good professor overall. She's passionate and has good humor. Attendance is not mandatory but you get extra credit. she offers pre-printed notes that are very helpful. Lots of homework but it really helps you learn. Tests are very challenging but if you do all the bonus/homework your grade is at least 10 percentage points higher
Dr Cook is great. She really cares about her students succeeding in her class and gives lots of extra credit. She is a little hard to understand at times, but it didn't get in the way of my overall learning experience. She is such a sweet human being and honestly one of my favorite professors. Her tests are a little hard, but to be expected.
Although I did enjoy Dr. Cook as a person, her class was impossible. The homework took hours to complete and was graded for accuracy. The tests were nothing like what she taught in class and were almost like she was trying to trick you. I studied for this class harder than I've ever studied for anything and it was never enough. Do not recommend.
the class is a constant seesaw between failing exams and then getting bonus points, but you end up good in the end. best chemistry teacher on campus. you will learn the material very well if you heavily apply yourself. do not wait to study for the exams, they are very very hard. study in advance. NOT A EASY CLASS. DO THE BONUS OR YOU WILL FAIL.
Dr. Cook is a great professor, and I highly recommend her, but not honors chemistry. You'll learn the exact same concepts at the exact same pace in her regular chemistry class but get a higher grade with more bonus opportunities. I got A's in all of my other classes, but almost failed this one because I took honors.
I love this woman with my whole heart. She cares so much for her students and it shows in my own improvement I took chem 1421 and 1422 with her. My grade on her first exam was a 50 and I asked for help after, my average test grade now is a 90 with an 80,105, and 100 among them. She gives SO much extra credit and is HILARIOUS. TAKE HER!!
She's extremely nice and helpful, however, she lectures quite fast and the tests are difficult even with studying all the formulas and concepts, so LOAD UP on the extra credit. You'll be going to the ends of the Earth for a C- to B- in the class after tests and that's personally not what I wanted to do for myself. Don't be discouraged though.
The tests for this class are extremely difficult, even when studying all the formulas and concepts, so LOAD UP on the extra credit. However, she is nice and willing to help you. Working for a C- to B- in the class after all tests and extra credit was not my cup of tea. Don't be discouraged though if you're willing to go take her.
Dr. Cook provides lecture notes for $20 that are quite helpful, but this class is a lot of work and in depth, but it is also an honors class. If you do not have a strong liking for chemistry, I don't recommend taking the honors. She does provide a good amount of extra credit opportunities in the homework and uses PointSolutions for in-class bonus.
Extremely good teacher but the tests were harder than they needed to be. There is a lot of homework but it's good exam prep. Lots of bonus.
Learned so much and was taught material in a very digestible way. Difficult, but worth it, and you will get a satisfactory grade.
I had Dr. Cook for 1201 and 1202. She has been so caring and such a good teacher. You can pay for lecture notes and bonus clicker questions. Do the DSMs and all homework and your grade will be one higher than expected. Her tests are difficult but practice helps. I failed two tests and still managed a B with her help and bonus. Take Cook!!!
Dr. Cook is an amazing professor. You should take her if you want to learn chemistry; however, I would not recommend taking the honors version. Her tests are tough and very conceptual. This was the most I've ever studied for a class. No curves, but there were some extra credits (approx. 60-70 points of extra credit if you complete it all)
Dr. Cook is a very exceptional professor who teaches the material. She has notes you can buy and bonus clicker questions every class as well as bonus assignments. Her exams were insanely hard-- I have never studied more for any other class. This class I did actually learn though but it was a very tough class that I had to focus all my time on.
Cook is wonderful! She has slightly difficult exams, but doing poorly on those can be offset by the countless extra credit given via homework, clickers, tests, and assignments (I had over 115/0 bonus by end of semester). She is very passionate about chemistry and truly knows her stuff. Buy the notes and do the clickers!
Dr. Cook is an amazing professor with a passion for chemistry. I had her for 2 semesters & it was VERY challenging but I 100% recommend if you are pre-health and actually want to learn. There are other easy prof if you just want an easy A. Study in advance and do all the bonus/homework- your grade will be at least 10% higher than your test avg.
Very bad teacher- if you get chem before this you'll be fine, but if your a normal person who doesn't, your screwed. None of her material is accesible outside of class except the textbook.
Class isn't mandatory, but there are bonus points given from turnpoint questions done in class. Do every bonus opportunity she has because it will made it impossible for you to get lower than a B. Study and the class isn't bad.
I took her bc the reviews were good. I did great on her participation questions as well as homework and couldn't get higher than a C on any exams. Hated her. Her exams were impossible and she did it on purpose. I did so well in chem I and would have done great in chem II had I taken any other professor. Would not recommend.
Prof. Cook is passionate about chemistry and provides ample bonus opportunities to offset the challenging exams. Utilize the available notes and clickers, and consider tools like unstuckstudy AI for study prep - this class requires significant dedication but is very doable with the right approach.
Very difficult tests that are difficult to prepare for. Lots of masteringchem assignments, but usually there's extra credit questions. Extra credit points can be earned through answering questions correctly on an app in class. Overall very difficult class, but is passable through extra credit opportunities.
She has a strong accent that makes her hard to understand. Goes very fast through lectures that are already difficult. Does not explain anything extra. Does not review for exams. Be ready to pay for things for the course (lecture notes, quiz platform, homework platform). Exams are difficult, but she does post previous exams as practice exams.
She was cool. Exams can get pretty tricky, but study and go to SI and you should not have to worry. She offers a TON of bonus. Do it all. Your grade will love you for it. Overall, I don't think I could've chosen a better prof for gen chem 1 at LSU. Take her class if you can. Guided notes, too.
If you pay attention in this class and do the homework you will succeed. Dr. Cook gives a super helpful guided notes lecture packet. She gives so much extra credit that it bumps your grade up tremendously if you do it, and the exams aren't too bad if you review the notes.
This is a class that you HAVE to go to to pass unless you're just amazing at chemistry. I loved professor Cook she was very intelligible in her field and when I emailed her about my grade she was fast to respond and offer help even when my schedule didn't align with hers. The material isn't hard to learn if you make sure to study
Her tests are easy if you do the homeworks and the practice exams. Her lectures are really good and you have to go if you want a good grade. Overall couldn't have asked for a better gen chem 1 prof. Take her if possible.
Professor Cook is a great instructor and her class is very manageable if you pay attention in class. I had a really good grade because I am pretty good at chemistry, if you aren't that good I def recommend studying. I got lucky not havingto study as much as others.
She's very sweet and has a great character, but her teaching methods aren't for everyone. If you already have taken AP Chem or similar, then I would recommend her but other than that, do not take her if you don't feel confident in Chem.
Professor Cook teaches a large amount of students, so good luck getting any sort of independent interaction with her unless you're willing to see her during office hours. While her class isn't hard, if you don't put in the minimal effort of doing your homework or showing up to class, you won't get an A. Otherwise, a pretty easy class.
She requires you to do about 2 homeworks a week, but they are relatively easy to complete and have a lot of bonus built into them. Also, you are given bonus from in class participation and some questions on her exams. If you go to class, do her practice exam, then look over the notes for each exam, you will do fine on the exams. Highly recommend
TAKE COOK!! This class is not an easy pass, and in order to do well you must attend lectures and complete assignments and STUDY!! but cook is an amazing professor with entertaining lectures and provides ample resources and bonus opportunities to do well in her class. Best chem 1201 professor!!
I had Dr. Cook for my first semester as a freshman and her class was great. All I can say is GO TO CLASS! That is how you will get the notes and to understand it go and make your own outlines and work out the problems from the notes. It will pay off. Final is cumulative so make sure to study and also do all bonuses and hw, its what got me a 103%!!!
Professor Cook is one of the best professors I had the privilege of taking this semester. She gives note templates of her lectures which make them really easy to follow and goes over the material at a reasonable pace. Her course is test heavy, but she provides a surplus of bonus activities. I would highly recommend her for 1201.
Dr. Cook was awesome. While exams were challenging, she gave extra credit on pretty much everything. Attendance is not mandatory, but skipping class would definitely make this class harder, as her lectures are extremely helpful. One of the best professors I had this semester. Highly recommend.
If you aren't willing to go to her class in-person, don't take the class
After failing the first exam I thought it was going to be a rough semester, but it was not. There were tons of extra credit opportunities all throughout the semester, so it helps your grade out a lot if you aren't a good test taker. While there is A LOT of homework it helps you understand what is going on to prepare you for the test. Best professor
The big thing about this class is that you have to show up. A lot of the material in her class is hard to grasp if you're not there. But as long as you do the extra credit work and homework's. You can easily walk away with a B.
Dr. Cook is AWESOME. I took 1201 freshman year with a different prof and I had to drop it because I just couldn't understand the concepts at all, but Cook explained all the material super well. She gives so much extra credit assignments that aren't too hard and I probably would've ended up with a C if not for all the extra credit. Great professor
If you have the opportunity, take Dr. Cook for CHEM 1201. While the homework is long, she gives you multiple days. Additionally, the tests are difficult (I made one B and multiple C's and D's), but she gives an insane amount of extra credit, so if you are willing to put in the extra work, you will do well. You can tell she loves what she does.
Great Professor, but hard tests. Also make sure to do all the ALEKS and HW because the affect your grade so much. Also beware for the tests because she will most likely put questions you never learned.
Very good professor. That being said, only take if you can buy the lecture notes or are ready to write a LOT.
Dr. Cook offers a lot of bonus opportunities but don't expect to do very well on the exams. Not very accommodating.
I never studied for her class and failed every test but still ended up "passing" the class due to the homework and DSMs boosting my grade. DO THE DSMS along with the homework! They'll help a bunch. If you actually study though, you should be fine.
I took her for 1201 and thought she was a professor that I enjoyed and had no complaints about. But now that I'm taking 1202 alongside harder STEM classes with different criteria, I never gave Dr. Cook the appreciation she deserves. The extra credit is a game changer and removes all the stress that my grade will sink. Best gen chem teacher by far.
She not only cut back on the amount of bonus and HW points from the previous semester her exams are completely unpredictable and you don't get enough time to answer the questions. Not to mention she doesn't drop tests or curve and the class is not on a curve
As long as you show up to class take notes and do bonus work you should be fine. the number of bonuses she gives is a life saver. although the exams are difficult you are normally given 5 bonus questions.
gives sm bonus that i have over a 100% in the class. you need to go to class to get the notes which cost money but you won't do well without them. a lot of work has to be put in outside of class but it's manageable. she also is funny af.
Professor Cook is a good professor when it comes to teaching chemistry. I always understood the material. With that being said, I could still never score above a 70 on exams. Beware of doing well on homework—if you average 100 on homework, she automatically thinks you cheated. Lots of bonus, which saves your grade, but tests are killer. Good luck.
Dr. Cook is a great lecturer. Her course layout is clear and she tells students exactly what we need to do to learn for each chapter. With that being said her tests are extremely hard. Hardest I have taken in my life. She gives a good amount of bonus, but for me it took about 10-15 hours of prep to get an A on the tests. Overall I recommend.
Exams are extremely difficult. A good amount of bonus is given on the homework that will boost your grade. Dr. Cook is very knowledgeable and teaches well but it takes a lot of studying to do well on exams.
Dr. Cook is a very good teacher. Her tests are difficult, but she gives a ton of extra credit to supplement. She rewards effort in her class and cares if you understand the material. Go to class, read the textbook, and do all of the homework and bonus on time, and you'll get an A.
Tests are unreasonably difficult for honors, much harder than her regulars class.
Tests were unreasonably difficult and nothing like practice tests, homework or even the notes.
1. Does not provide lecture slides/notes. You have to pay the student club for those. 2. Extra Credit is locked behind a $40/year subscription to "point solutions" 3. Exams are extremely difficult. Goes out of her way to make them nothing like the homework, old exams, or notes.
She's a nice lady, don't get me wrong. But it is almost impossible to pass her class. Her tests are nothing like the homework, and most people do horribly on them even after studying for weeks, attending tutorials, SI sessions, and completing all the homework. However, this is my experience, as well as that of many others, in her honors class.
While she assigns a lot of extra credit, every interaction with her she has been rude to me over the littlest things like handing her a wrinkled paper or not saying good morning. The tests are very difficult and nothing like the notes.
Dr. Cook is a very nice lady to me personally and you can tell she enjoys the material. However, the exams in this class are very difficult. They aren't similar to the homework, however they are similar to the practice exams. I struggled in this class but she gives a lot of bonus. Do the DSMS, do the homework, take notes and you'll pass for sure.
Tests are OUTRAGEOUSLY HARD if you don't study the exact right thing. Most of the things she assigns have nothing to do with the test (homework's), and she has generally been unpleasant every time I have spoken with her. While there is a good bunch of bonus, the class is so test heavy that in most cases it wont even matter.
Her tests are literally impossible. I studied for 2 weeks, and stayed up until 5 every morning days before her tests. And i got a 54%, which is better than over 100 people in the 458 person class. Never take this professor. The hw does not help.(103% hw grd and 51% class) Her lessons are terrible and the extra credit everone harps on does nothing.
Professor Cook is a great professor with a lot of material available to help you understand the subjects. That being said, if you have not taken at least AP/IB chemistry in high school, do not take this course. She goes fast, and if you don't have background in the subject, it takes 2x as much work to understand the topics.
The tests are really the biggest issue with the class. A person can study for 2 weeks every day, trying to prepare for the test but will STILL make an awful grade. The class average has to be low because I don't know a single person who has above a B. Also, the homework doesn't help.
Do the extra credit!!!! Saved me a lot when I didn't do the best on exams. Also, going to class helped a lot with learning catalytic points. She will let you look over exams if you go to her office hours.
Dr.Cook is a fun professor. She gives a lot of extra credit and even gives you notes of the lectures. The only downside is that the class is very expensive as you have to pay to do homework and get the notes. Her course was very similar to that of AP/IB chem but she goes fast so if you do not have a good foundation this class will probably eat you.
Honors chemistry is definitely challenging and requires a lot of studying because tests are heavily weighted, but if you study regularly and attend lectures, you'll pass. If you don't want to put in a lot of work or chemistry isn't important to your major, take general chemistry rather than the honors.
Lectures are not necessary because there is not attendance grade, but strongly advised because she teaches the material well. Gives SO much extra credit and take advantage of it. I never got an A on a test, but I finished with an A because there is multiple extra credits given EVERY week and extra credit questions to answer during class on an app.
I have mixed opinions. She clearly knows the material, is extremely intelligent, and gives lots of easy extra credit; BUT, her exams are difficult. I got a 55% on the first one, studied harder and got an 85% on the second exam, got a 90% on the third exam, but got a 55% on the fourth exam. Not sure how the difficulty range is so wide.
teacher is a nice lady but only reads over slides and doesn't stop for questions. she is accesible outside of class. Go to tutoring and studying with the SI if you hope to pass
Cook is an amazing professor. She breaks down and teaches topics and makes sure that you learn them. That being said, the tests for this class are extremely difficult. I recommend doing the homework for real and not using AI to get the answers, that way you learn the material at a deeper level. Definitely lock in for the first test, they get easier
the notes are on paper and they are fill in notes, she doesn't allow computers so just be prepared to come to class and take notes. Lots of HW, but also lots of extra credit. I had over a 100 for 90% of this course and did average on tests. I would take her again :)
I feel like everything taught could've been taught in a less confusing way. Fancy terminology was thrown around constantly without actually explaining what it meant. I always felt like we were talked to like we were grad chem students, not beginner basic chem students. Tests way too hard for no reason, nothing explained well. Don't recommend at all
Dr. Cook is very educated on the material, has good lectures, and offers lots of extra credit that will bump your grade up 5-10 points. However, her honors tests are unnecessarily difficult and she is not a particularly kind woman. Overall, I would recommend her 1421 class, but you will need to put in a lot of effort outside of class to do well.
She's an engaging lecturer. She teaches the material at a basic level in class/homeworks. Aim for a higher level of proficiency for her brutal exams. Find past exams from coursehero or past students. I got a 55, 85, 90, 70, and 87 for exams/final respectively. I've never had to study for a class before this, but I had zero prior chem knowledge.
Very passionate about her work and clearly enjoys teaching, just be prepared to have to drop around $50 on lecture notes (required) and bonus. Her exams are tough and typically have 20 questions, so it's easy to get a bad grade. If you don't devote a lot of time to study, you will fail. There is a lot of homework and self teaching as well.
She offers lots of extra credit. Exams are challenging, but the information is from the notes. Overall, a great teacher and very helpful outside of class. If you have good study skills, do the homework, and go to class, you will be good! Only ended with a B+ because I did not take advantage of all the extra credit!!
The exams were very hard, and it is essential that you do not miss class.
Dr Cook provides so much bonus it's actually not even funny. Only bad thing about her class is that there is a million exams. She explains things pretty well and makes jokes a lot. Definitely pay attention and go to class. This class is totally passable
