Her class is boring. Her lectures are boring. Her quizzes are a pain. And she has a weird Polish accent that makes it even worse. Do not take her if you have a choice.
Unless you are into painful, boring lectures, hard pop quizzes, and overly difficult exams, then I suggest you DO NOT EVER TAKE ONE OF HER CLASSES!! If I pass with a 'C' I'll be happy... not to mention surprised...
Elzbieta truly cares about her subject and her students. She does make you work in her class, but hey, you're there to learn!Any student who puts forth the effort can earn A's in her class.
One word says it all: awful...
I liked her as a person, however her tests were impossible. You would have to memorize the book to do well on her tests. I am an A student, and I will probably get a C-my first one. Yes I am bitter!!!
Nice lady but thats not how you get a good grade. Hard pop quizzes, even harder tests! Midterm and final only. Accent can get old fast!! Don't take if you don't have to.
Hard teacher, but very knowledgable. If you study hard you can get an A like I did. However, if you're looking for an easy A this is not the class for you.
Hard tests covering too much material that's impossible to memorize. Most lectures were boring. Her Polish accent is hard to get used to. Hardly any HW besides reading.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! She has NO IDEA on her own policies! The class is SOOOO BORING!!!! Got a B in the class, but she is awful! And can be mean!!!!!
Her tests were very hard b/c the study guides were so vague. He pop quizzes were easy though for the most part. I got an A, but it was a class that deserved it’s 4000 level title. Be ready to work, but it was a very interesting class!!!
Your grade relies mainly on a midterm and final, with a few pop quizzes throughout the term. Expects you to know as much as she does even though her lectures are broad. Could have been more interesting. I would recommend the class, not the professor.
A lot of group work, 2 papers, 8 pop quizes. Only a midterm and a test, so there's not much room for error. She covers a lot of material but it's really interesting.
Let me jsut say this. My gpa is almost a 3.9. I work hard, and had to work extremely hard in this class. I thought i would get a C, somehow I got a B.Midterm was very hard. U practically have to remember the whole book. and pop quizzes weren't always easy
I HATED THE CLASS!!! SHE IS IMPOSSIBLE! I PULLED AN ALL NIGHTER STUDYING FOR HER STUPID EXAM AND ONLY MADE A "C" AND I'M AN "A" STUDENT! SHE MAKES EVERY MULTIPLE CHOICE ANSWER THE SAME SO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE RIGHT ANSWER! SHE NEEDS TO GET A CLUE!!
The class was boring but she knew her work. Very hard exams and pop quizes but she let me make up tow quizzes at the final exam. She is a nice person but should be teaching a graduate class.
She knows her stuff and gets very irritated when you dont. Her tests are impossible,i studied my butt off a got a D on the 1st test. She is a little hard to understand sometimes because of her accent. but she is very helpful outside of class so Im not sure wether I would want her for a teacher again.
This is my all time favorite professor at UCF. Just go to class and make an easy A. Her exams are a joke. I heard she was hard but at the beginning of the semester she specifically stated that she was gonna make the class much much easier due to student complaints. I love this woman !!!!!!
She is really not that bad. She just really wants you to skim tha chapters at least so the class has something to talk about. She knows it can get boring and she tries to lighten things up a bit. Must go to class, try to keep her happy too or she'll give a pop quiz. Her accent kind of grows on you.
Her lectures are extremely vague and the test are very in depth. You have to read a lot to makle sure you understand and to past the tests, the class can be very hard if you dont read
An honestly nice lady who knows what she is talking about. Skim the book for a few days before the tests. The material is interesting, but more than a little depressing. And skim before class, so she doesn't get upset (and give pop quizzes) about your work ethic.
The test questions are tricky. If you read the book and then re-read it before each test, you will do fine. Her notes are a little confusing because she is from Poland. If you are a good student and know how to study, go to class and you'll get an A. Attendence counts!
I got a "B" in the class and found it interesting. Whoever said Mrs. S was a bad teacher was WRONG. it was very interesting. She wants you to be able to apply what you've learned. She's BIG on the text so keep up, even the little boxes you should read. I very much recommend it.
This is a college class. If you do not read, it will not be easy. She tells you everything that you need to know on the study guide. She does not spoon feed you and the lazy kids cant handle that. This is college. Learn to read the textbooks you buy. She is really smart and really does care about teh students.
If you want an easy class, this is not the class for you. I heard horror stories about it, but during the first week she will warn everyone and only the survivors will make it. Take her notes and make sure you read the chapters at least twice and you will do fine. If you go to office hours after finishing study guide she will clarify anything
Class was pretty hard. Yoo many minute details from the book on the tests. Discussions take time up in class but sometimes she stifles students views. Polish accent is alright for the first half of the year. You might want to pick an easier teacher.
Tip: do the study guide! It helps so much. Get all the notes, read the chapters and you can get an A. She also does quizzes sometimes at the beginning so get there on time. They count.
This class was horrible. She didn't even know what she was talking about half the time and had to ask the clas if she was right. I would not take her at all. Her tests are just ridiculously hard and you can't even understand what she is saying. Aviod at all costs.
She is a little hard to understand b/c of her accent but the class was ok. She was unclear with assignments but didn't count it against you. Tests were not bad as long as you studied and the study guide really helped. Attendance counted so make sure you don't miss too many classes!
Make sure you do study guides and read every chapter. Her notes are really just an outline to the notes you really need to be taking from the book. She makes you stress about how much time you should be spending to study for her tests. Don't stress, the test are not that hard. She doesn't like to help you if you need to improve your grade either.
all you have to do is read the book and do the study guide and you will be fine. the tests are right off of the study guide. your grade is made up of only tests, attendance and a few assignments.
Worst professor I've had at UCF. Doesn't explain her grading methods. Attendance is required;but not needed because all test material comes from the book. Gets easily upset at students for not particapating but doesn't allow any opinion but her own. Test are easy if you read textbook and do study guide..everything else was horrible
Sociology of Mental Illness - great professor, great class. Loved the videos that she incorporated during class to emphasize the material - very enriching.
Dr. Sikorska is a great professor! This class is the most interesting class I've taken, and it holds my interest day to day. Tests are easy if you study.
Points off grade for attendance, no excuses, even during add/drop week! Notes/exams from text, she only knows info from book. Assignments are short, but she will say it's your opinion in your answer, not true, she's looking for something specific, check & see your answers are right. Want to learn about mental illness, buy book. Nice lady/bad class.
Attendance is mandatory, like a high school class. Her entire class is only 100 points so there's no margin for error. Combine this with the fact that she tries to trip you up on exam questions meaning you should try and avoid her. Nice lady but it's like she really tries to make it harder on you. And god help you if you're ever late.
Great professor. Interesting class with great videos.
Absolutely horrible teacher for an upper level course. She tries to make her class the most important thing in your life; ie reading EVERYTHING in the book and pay attention to EVERY detail MENTIONED in class, even from other people. Tests are extremely difficult and she purposely tries to screw you with her wording. Avoid her if you want to pass!
She tries, but her mind wanders. She would get very distracted during lecture and forget to cover most of the material. Her accent was hard to understand sometimes and she attempted group work pretty often. Your grade is based on 3 exams and the exams were extremely difficult. I wouldn't recommend this professor.
had her honors class. she has 3 tests that are easy to study for. class is mostly opinions and discussions hidden behind a few legitimate examples. she is nice and her class is not difficult
Extremely knowledgable
Better be able to understand polish. Her grading technique is annoying. You take three tests. They are 25 points each of your final 100 point grade. Her tests are nothing like what you learn. She is culturally biased. She is nice, however.
She is very strict but if you study you will pass with an A+. Read your chapters and attend class everyday!!! Exams are easy if you study.
How do you say bad teacher. Mhmm thats right, theres no need to raise your hand to answer a question, not like she listens to you anyways. Tests are extremely hard, no need to take notes because she goes straight from the book. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS.
May as well stand up to answer a question for participation because if you raise your hand she'll just pass you right by.
Conversation goes quickly and can jump sometimes in the seminar setting. It feels like you have to interrupt to get a word in and be prepared to be interrupted. Otherwise, the class is enjoyable and the 3 hours don't feel so bad.
Straight from the book. Attendance mandatory. Short answer questions.
Straight from the book. Attendance mandatory. Short answer questions for quizzes.
Honors. Only three exams and participation/attendance points, adding up to exactly 100 points. Very little room for error. Study guides are extremely complex, and the book is absolutely necessary. Although the class is mostly discussion based, what she says, goes.
Prof. Sikorska was a great professor. Very nice and understanding. Just attend class and read the textbook. It's that simple.
Book is 100% necessary. The essays on tests can be difficult because she expects a very specific answer. I like her, even though a lot of people don't; she's tough but she definitely knows what she's talking about. She will interrupt you though. Approachable during office hours. Good documentaries shown during class. Good study guides.
Her lectures are extremely boring. This class is interesting, but she is so monotone, its hard to stay awake. She requires a lot of work, with no grades in return. I suggest to take her with easier classes, because it is a lot of reading/summaries to do.
She is super disorganized. I really hated the way her class was set up. She never specified when and what assignments were due and she did not explain how they were graded. Her lectures were boring and she doesn't respond to emails.
Dr. Sikorska has a motto: my way or the highway. If you ask her to clarify in class and stick exactly to her doc cam notes for both essays and tests, you'll get a high grade. If you're trying to actually learn about mental illness and it's implications, take a different professor. Book is a must, attendance is as well.
This class was pretty easy. Dr. Sikorska gives interesting lectures and shows lots of videos, which is nice. There are only three tests plus each chapter requires you to write a summary which isn't that bad. But the subject is really easy, so its kind of easy to bs your way through the class (although I wouldn't recommended doing that, per se)
I would not recommend Professor Sikorska. She is extremely rude and disrespectful to students. She speaks to students in a condescending manner and will often make an example out of students, embarrassing them in front of the entire class. No patience and does not care to help. Easy class, terrible teacher.
She's pretty awful. She'll ask the class questions and then not really let you answer them. Or worse she'll cut you off just as you begin answering. She's hard headed too, and won't accept it when you tell her something isn't true. The class is easy so it's not that serious but I would recommend another professor.
Very rude. Does not post on webcourses (grades, assignments, syllabus). Very tough grader, hard long test. She lectures for an hour, then leaves her class and has her TA play a movie, then comes back when the movie is over and lectures more. Keeps you the full 3 hours. doesn't use power points she uses typed notes and projects them. Not an easy A.
Absolutely wonderful. She is extremely honest and keeps it real. She makes you feel like your opinion and comment matters. She is serious when it comes to deadlines and assignments, but she does care about her students and their performance in the class. Really enjoyed the discussion based form of her class following lectures and films.
Interesting class but lots of homework. Dr. Sikorska is a good professor but most of your learning will come from the book. The exams are extremely short and easy.
LOVED this class and favorite professor at Ucf so far. She wants you to succeed and gives you the tools to do so. Go to class, take notes, do the readings and summaries and you'll do well on the tests. She even gives you a study guide that's very helpful. It's interesting material and class discussion and the films you watch really help you learn.
The bad: you MUST READ and summarize EVERYTHING, and she does open lectures every day. Attendance is mandatory. Good: Its my second semester taking her and I absolutely love her! She is such an inspirational and quirky person and shes EXTREMELY passionate about what she teaches. The world needs more people and teachers like her to open your mind.
The professor was amazing. I enjoyed lecture, took the course summer in 2017. Textbook is necessary because it helped for the exams. Just read the assigned chapters, take notes during lecture and there was 4 exams. She also provided study guides which was really helpful. I got the opportunity to help her with grading and filing the exams. TAKE HER!
The class is not difficult if you just do the work. Every other week a quick quiz is due ... 15 questions, 15 minutes. The in between weeks you are required to watch a video (about an hour long give or take) and write a short paper about it and how it relates to that weeks readings. The videos were interesting and the papers were graded fairly.
WAYY too much work for an elective. Multiple 1000 work essays. Yall should pay me to do this, that's how much it is
She is not very nice when replying to emails and tests are rough because you have very limited time.
I don't like this trend where teachers only open tests for a day and give you a minute per question for a 60 minute test. These tests are extremely hard. Making things hard and stressful doesn't equate to learning. Not to mention a 1000 word essay due every week. Teach not trick.
Hated this class. Boring. Dont trust her powerpoints for the quizzes.1 min per question on the quizzes. Buy book. 30+pages per chapter. Essay 1000+ words ea. module on chapter & a video. Tough grader. Definitely dont take her for B or C sessions. Would not take unless you have to.
You are graded on 7 quizzes and 7 essays. Each quiz is based on textbook chapters that you are assigned for the week. It is open note but the questions are really specific and there is a 15 min time limit for 15 questions. The essays are based on assigned films, chapters, or articles. Each essay is around 1500 words. She's a very tough grader.
By far one of my favorite professors! She teaches in a reverse classroom style so you discuss the readings in class before the weekly quizzes or essays are due. However, this is not a class where you can slack off; essays are upward of 1500 words and she is not an easy grader, but she has clear guidelines so it's pretty fair.
the essays are graded way too hard and the feedback included stuff not included in the questions to answer so i did not know to include it.
The professor is a cagna (look it up). Has smart remarks, doesn't care for her students at all. Will try her hardest not to provide SAS accommodations. Don't even know why she is teaching, doesn't seem to enjoy it at all. Not worth my time, didn't gain anything from the class. 7 essays and 7 quizzes, SUPER TOUGH GRADER. Spends her time nip picking.
The teacher does not care for the students. The essays are hard as well as the test. When asking her for help, she is very sarcastic and saysthat youhave not read the textbook. She grades with turnitin. Remember not to input the questions when answering your essays because they will come back as plagiarism, and she will not accommodate that!
This professor is impossible to please. Im an A student and this class had me stressed out. There are 2000 word essays due every week. The class average for the essays are 68%. Theres no lecture. Its pure reading and writing essays.
There's long essays written every other week. Although I did half-ass one and she was generous with that grading. You must have the textbooks otherwise you cant do the work. I had a slightly different version of one bc I found it for free, Introduction to Sociology 4th Edition rather than Essentials of Sociology 4th Edition. It worked the same
Every other week you have to write an essay based off of the textbook readings but its broken down into around six questions each with a word count range to hit. If you write it throughout the week, its easier to manage. One week I couldn't hit the word count but she was generous with the grading imo. It was still so much work so DON'T slack
If I could've given this professor a 0 score, I would have. I am an A student, and I have never seen a teacher like this. Everyone learns differently and is overall different in general. There were things on the quizzes that I didn't even see in the textbook, even when I went back to check. If I could write more I would because that isn't even 1/4
This class is harder than it needs to be. The prof grades HARSHLY + you will have a 1,000 word essay due weekly w/ 1-2 questions from the textbook (300-400 word response each) and then 1-2 questions on "applied learning tasks" (3-4 articles + a speech/TED talk). ridiculous amount of information and reading and extremely mean grader. condescending.
This class has made me so unreasonably frustrated. Prof goes back and forward with the instructions and is insanely inconsistent. Does not answer emails and ignores and avoids most questions and concerns. Barely teaches and goes on rants for half the class about people who did not read the chapter.
This class is much harder than it needs to be. I am an A student and this class is very stressful and time-consuming. The essays are long and difficult. The instructions are unclear, the feedback is vague, and the grading is inconsistent. I thought this would be an interesting class, but I deeply regret taking it.
She grades so harshly and gives poor to no feedback when dissecting apart your work. Takes forever to grade work, does not respond to emails and will constantly tell you that you are vague and unfamiliar with the course material. No matter how hard you try it is never enough. Dont sacrifice your mental health for this course, not worth it at all.
This professor is extremely hard to please. Extremely hard essay grader. No work is good enough. I have always excelled in writing and this teacher gave me repeated Fs for the essay assignments when they were not F worthy papers. The only 100 I ever received was when the TA graded an essay.
Essay guidelines are not clear at all and when you ask her to discuss grades and dissect essays she is vague and accused you of not knowing the material. No help at all.
7 essays, 7 quizzes. she grades essays harshly. show up to class, she goes over what she wants you to write in each essay clearly. made the biggest mistake and stopped going halfway thru the semester, was almost abt to get a B until i started going again at the very end. also get as many perfect scores on quizzes, u need to get as many pts possible
2/2 to continue I was close to this women, at the end of this semester some students who actually attended class had a final meeting with her, where she told us more about her personal life. I will start with her living arrangement, a mini van which she called benny. she lives in it and goes touring beaches and having fun while we all die.
Terrible experience. She grades so HARSHLY. this is a 2000 level course and she treats it like you're about to get your doctorates degree. I took this chance because she was my only option this semester. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE, WAIT THE NEXT SEMESTER FOR ANOTHER PROFESSOR !! She is terrible. I would give a 0 rating if i could.
If I had read the reviews of this teacher it would have saved me a lot of trouble. This teacher is by far the worst I've ever had. Weekly papers with extremely strict grading. The weekly quizzes often contain information that is not in the book or such minute details that are not easily found. She will not tell you what you got wrong. DO NOT TAKE!
Do yourself a favor and do not take her. She is super rude and does not care about her students. She relies heavily on the textbook and give no additional resources to do the assignments. she is by far the worst professor I have had!
Save your yourself and don’t take this class with this professor. By far the hardest course I’ve ever experienced she makes it unnecessary hard to pass. Grades the papers so strictly and doesn’t go over your answers/mistakes on the quizzes. I wish I read the reviews for this teacher before taking this class. Doesnt care about her students
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!! if you can take a different professor I would wait. she doesn't care about her students or their grades. every week there's a quiz the chapter is basically 50+ pages and she wants you to read the chapter at least 2-3 times. Then the next week there's an essay 1000-1200 words based on the chapter reading.
If you can avoid the class please do because you will need therapy after taking it. There are 6 papers she isn't clear on because the rubric that she grades you from isn't the one you're presented with the assignment. The quizzes are 13 questions...easy except you get 15 min, cannot change your answer and your study guide is at LEAST 25 questions.
She does not give you the full rubric for the essays but that is the one she chooses to grade with. Feedback from her is unhelpful and quite rude. While she may say you can reach out to discuss her grading, she will then berate you and claim you are in the wrong to question her. I do not recommend this professor for anyone.
She is unreasonable and horrible please do not take her! Horrible grader.
1/2This teacher was the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. I would have gotten an A if it was any other teacher. First of all her style of writing essays is completely different than how they teach us, and therefore fails you, which is what makes or break your grade.
The assignment rubrics posted on Canvas are extremely vague and not even the ones she uses to grade. The PowerPoints provided are not helpful at all for quizzes, which are 15 questions in 15 minutes without going back on questions. She takes up to 3 weeks to grade assignments, so any helpful feedback comes back too late. Please avoid taking her.
If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the professor to sign up with. to score high on your papers, break up each of the sub-questions within the question into their own paragraphs and answer correctly pulling your information directly from the assigned reading from the textbook and the articles. always paraphrase.
DO NOT TAKE!!!!!! I took the course to fulfill a credit for my minor, and she made it impossible to pass with an A. She takes off points for every little detail. For most of my assignments, no one in the class was given full credit. She makes exams/assignments unnecessarily difficult. Unless it's absolutely necessary, do not take her class.
DO NOT TAKE MENTAL HEALTH IN SOCIETY WITH HER IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH. She is a VERY tough grader with her essays. I was more stressed about this class than biochemistry. The averages were always in the low 60s for every assignment, and she refused to give any extra credit or essay revisions. I would not recommend
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD AT UCF. DO NOT TAKE. The class average for every assignment was in the 60s. For an online sociology course. She is an extremely tough grader and doesn't care about her students. If you don't need this course for your major, DONT TAKE IT. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Whatever you do, do not take this Professor!
Had 2 drop this class and eat the money a month in when i realized there was no hope in me passing. I wish i could take back the hours i put into this class for nothing. For a basic online class like this there is no reason to give anyone less than a 50 on something they clearly put many hours into and that meets all the basic instruction given.
This professor is an extremely difficult grader. As someone who has only received positive feedback on writing, I was shocked by the C's and below I continued to receive on my essay assignments. Do not choose this professor if you have the option not to.
The course set by this professor is set for failure. Her quiz content is extensive, solely based on the book (horrible one by the way!) 15 questions in 15 minutes... the study guide for each quiz is composed of 50 questions (each question with 2 to 3 questions...), besides that she requires long essays, complex and extensive discussion boards and
Do not take this professor!!! Like the others said, she is a really tough grader. Got C's or below on discussions that I normally do well on in other classes. Quizzes are impossible - 15 questions in 15 minutes. Will most likely have to drop. Do not take Mental Health in Society or this professor for anything!
This instructor fails to provide clear guidance on her assignments. Class average on most assignments was a C. This is a poor reflection on the teacher not the student.
This was a time consuming, difficult class. Quizzes were bi-weekly, 15 questions in 15 minutes. Questions were random, making it difficult to remember all of the facts from a 50+ page chapter. You HAVE to read the chapters. Essays are long and arduous. Write only about what she asks. Sometimes questions weren't clear. Try e-mailing her for help.
You will be on your own! FYI lots of grammatical errors in her assignments but I guess she is better than us
Horrible teaching. This class is much harder than it needs to be. I am an A student and this class is stressful and time-consuming. The essays are long and difficult. The instructions are unclear, the feedback is vague, and the grading is inconsistent. I thought this would be an interesting class, but I deeply regret taking it, biggest mistake!
I have no problem with reading and writing papers. My problem was the heavy reliance upon the textbook, which was AWFUL. Dense, hard to follow, outdated. It and the assigned reading were UK based. Every paper felt like a book report, simply reciting the reading and not thinking for yourself. I regurgitated what I read and learned very little.
The professor fails to assist without heavy attempts. Her verbiage is curt and at times offensive. She critiques everything you submit while her directions are presented with significant grammatical errors. Considering the course subject matter it does appear she has lost site on how to converse with students. Would never take again...ever!
please fire her ucf
terrible terrible absolutely the worst
worst professor ever
rude, dismissive
Mean
very very rude
This class was a struggle - the professor seemed disinterested and unhelpful. However, using resources like Unstuckstudy and the textbook helped me get through it. Wouldn't recommend taking this professor again.
She's a professor who knows and is deeply passionate about her stuff, and because of it I would imagine it's easy for her to tell who wants to learn something and who doesn't. It's obvious by these review who had her in person and who didn't. They hated jesus too.
