He is a good Math teacher, he goes slow and his exas are fairly easy.
Hard to understand his accent. Nice person. Somewhat confusing.
Hard to understand and what's up with the Love Boat dockers and navy blazer everyday with the white turtleneck. It took the wholesemester for me to figure out his review questions are basically the same as the test. It's too late for me but not for you!
He speaks only to the front of the class and completes problems on the board and stands in front of them.
Hey is hard to understand at times
Wonderful teacher, good knowledge, and good attitude.
Prof. Miller is THE BEST!!! I never understood math until he explained it. The people in the Math Dept told me that students line up to take his classes and now I know why.Slight accent is barely noticeable, I could understand every word. He's great!!!
Pr. Miller is very easy professor. He explains very well and if you need extra help he will be there to help you. I loved his class I will recommend anyone to take his classes.
This is a great professor: clear, very concise and logical. If you aren't great at math, take him and you will be. Just remember to pay attention to the steps he gives you for problems and to practice them often, by doing your homework.
Miller is a easy professor. He is very helpful. He'll explain any problem until its fully understood. I think his class is an easy A if you work on it though
This is one of the easiest calculus teacher John Jay has. Take him, pay attention to his review question, the test is exactly the same.
the only problem with this guy he expects u to remember the previous courses work.
This professor is good if you took the 105 or whatever just the semester before. Speaks in a monotone. Will help you but you won't need it if 105 isn't a distant memory to you.
Took his course calculus 2. If you want to learn probability for texas hold'em, he's the professor to go to. Outstanding calculus professor.
He is boring as hell, but he knows his stuff. Also, he will take the time to explain things to you one on one.
He is hard to understand and he does not talk loud. He gives a lot of homework and if you get one or two questions on the test wrong you fail. Do not take this class!
he is very helpfull if you show your trying he wont fail you
his tests are str8 from the review, that's good. he's likes to teach with the theorems, doesn't give alot of examples. he wants you to remember things from previous courses.

He's very hard to understand and makes mistakes all the time. He's overall a good teacher but he is hard. I heard there's another easy calc teacher but I didn't find that out til after calc 2.
Very good professor, knows his stuff. The review sheet is the exam. Just show that you are willing to do his work !! Very helpful if you need it.
boring and hard as hell. gives lots of hw. spare yourself the trouble!!!
he's boring bec he is monotonic, but he's a great professor. He is willing to help you and to try his best to make you pass his class. Overall, a great person at jj.
Hard to understand, stops to explain u just have to ask.
I couldn't understand more than two words he said all semester. I copied everything he put on the board, but i wound up with 2 notebooks full of useless information and unfinished problems. I'd advise you to take a different professor. he also wears like the same clothes every day.
Monotoned makes this JJ professor boring and hard to understand. Not as effectve of a teacher, but overall pretty easy if you do all your homework.
His test is not hard at all but his teaching is not so good! He is kind and funny however I found myself lost very often in the class.

A little boring. Three test and a final. All you have to do is copy his notes, study from them, and you should get at least a B on his tests. It's a little hard to understand him but the notes are all you need.
He is the type of teacher you want to take if you don't understand of like Math
Horrible professor. Has no idea what he is talking about half of the time and has to be corrected on blackboard problems. Miserable man.
from wat i remember, he gave 3 tests dropped the lowest score and a final. hes extraordinarily boring and he be fallin asleep in class haha so can u blame the students for fallin asleep as well?? LOL anyway, he's helpful if u go to him seekin for help and he'll do the best he can to help u out.
Not too bad, kinda boring and monotone but the material is taught pretty slow. Just study the review sheets that he gives out before each exam, they're pretty much the same, and he'll always go over (and over and over...) concepts that you might not get so ASK!!! especially the review questions, he practically spoon feeds you the answers.
1 word describes him...boring. He's easy going, late alot & he drops your lowest test grade. Take him b/cuz that will be the easiest math class you'll ever take
hes very easy and helpful. the best teacher i have had so far. the test is your class notes and he spends a day to tell you exactly wats going to be on the test
I love this guy!!! For those people who say that he was boring? let me ask a question? How the hell can you make calculus fun? Anywayz I thought he was extremely helpful and if you do his homework, ask questions in class (he'll always help you) and study your a$$ off, you will do good. Took him for precal in summer and He's damned good.
Ok..I have 2 notebooks FULL of problems with NO ANSWERS! He never explains an entire problem, students were telling HIM the correct answers....I got nowhere with him. When you ask a question, he works his way around it and never gives you an actual answer...it's always "Work it out from here.."
this guy has to be the worst math teacher i have ever had. he dosnt know anything. the students have to tell hihm the right answers. how can you teach someone if you ar always making mistakes. i dont get this guy. i ont even know why he works for the school, that is how bad he is. this guy is a disgrace to all math teachers. !!!!THE WORST EVER!!!!
First, the teacher is incomprehensible! His accent is way to strong and he mumbles! Secondly, the class is uber boring!I just took this guy and he give like 3 test 4 the entire semester and no quizes. He doesn't really explain the material and sometimes doesn't even seem certain with what he's teaching. So if your not a genious don't take the class!
Great professor. He runs a very relaxing class and encourages questions. He always gives students time to ask any questions they have before beginning the daily lesson. I would say he is one of the best professors I have ever had. He really encourages you to think, and not to memorize nonsense. He knows what is important and that is what he tests.
Prof Miller is a great teacher if you engage in his class. Most of my class were a bunch of complainers and I'm not surprised they did poorly. He gives you what you need to know. I did get tutored a few times to clear up a few things I didn't understand. Work the problems with him in class and things will be a lot easier and you WILL do great.
All you have to do is participate and show interest in the class, attend workshops if he is giving any. Even if you do not know the stuff, its the thought that counts. Do your homework of as much as you can, ask questions and you will pass the class.
He is very helpful and makes it easy for you to pass. Sit in the front of the class so you can understand what he is saying because he speaks very low. If you have a question ask him after class. Grades fairly
Well, I got a C in his class. Half of the reason I blamed it on me, and the other half on him. He speaks tooo low , but the good thing is that he doesnt count your lowest grade, thats why I passed this class :) Besides the math class, he is a nice teacher.
the worst... hard grader... he is the biggest jack ass.. dont take his class if you want to pass!
I liked him. If you know the subject. Take him. Raise a hand few times here and there to answer the question and he will remember you. He will start noting you once you take few tests. If your grade was good he will make sure you know it. Fromt that point on you are good to go, because he will actually like you and treat you above average.
This guy is a pretty terrible professor...He takes examples in the book and pretty much reads the book to you, he also never finishes a problem and expect you to know how to do the work. He will treat you good if you establish as one of his favorites, otherwise he wouldn't care about you. Good luck to all who takes him (but try not to get him)
he obviously dosen't know math at all, relies on students to do the work, he never finishes the problems assigned each day. he can't calculate. He's simply terrible. i got a b+ but i advice u not to take him. if u do try learning the work on your own its the only way you'll pass
Boring as hell, but he knows his stuff. Be careful with his proofs and theorems you will most likely have to know a few of them. Got a B on his class mainly because i did all the homeworks late..he grades very poorly and his review is what will be in the test.
Professor Miller is a very fair person but you as a student must show that you are trying. It is also important that you complete the homeworks because it helps your grade at the end. He also counts attendance so make sure you go to class. I will say that math is not my best subject but if you need help he is always willing to help.
Nice guy, sense of humor, willing to help out kids who try. However, he speaks in a monotone Caribbean accent that can be hard to understand sometimes. He sometimes assumes everyone knows the stuff he's covering and will skip steps and processes, which can be confusing. But generally a good professor teaching a lame subject.
he is a really good prof. and grades very fairly
He is such an easy professor.. He is very friendly. I got A+ in his class and im not even that into math. Just do all his homework, go to class & ask questions. He said he hardly gives people D's and F's..all test question is in review.. he may seems boring at first but Take him!! u wont regret it at the end of the semester
I had taken him for Mat 104 and 141, pre cal. He is an excellent teacher. If there's someone who rates him bad that's becasue they are ignorant and lazy. He provides you with all the necessary tools needed to do well. Let's be honest, the kids that go to John Jay are not the brightest, they expect ansers to be given to them. All and all,he's great.
PLEASE TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! I took him for 141, 241, 242, and 243. All As! Gives 4 tests which are short and easy if you've done the homework. A bit on the boring side. Likes to leave the classroom during tests but then peeks through the window to see who's cheating, funny in a weird way. LOL
Terrible teacher. Couldn't unserstand a word he said and expects you to know most of the material
This professor was a trip!I went by the reviews posted on here and was completely misguided.Hes an OK professor, not the best¬ the worst.4 short exams. Seemed pretty annoyed wenever students went to his office for help, so def. not approachable. Had to stack up on plenty of tutoring to pass this class-__- Try and take Baruch instead! Goodluck
i have alot of mixed feelings about him. he was all over the place with problems. he doesnt really make it clear, and his accent kind of makes it hard to understand whats going on. you need to study exactly what is on the reviews to get a passing grade on exams. but if your willing to study extra hard & ask alot questions then he wont be a problem
The worst professor in the history of math. Can't unserstand a word he says. If your terrible at math and not only want to pass but pass with an A then take Baruch
Horrible teacher. He is not clear in anything he communicates to the class. Does not give back homework, yet gives you tons of it. You can't ask him questions without him saying, "We have discussed this," or my favorite, "Its in your notes". I love math but each time I walked into his classroom I left with more questions then answers.
After reading the reviews on this professor, i had mixed feelings going in, and the same mixed feelings coming out. If your not good in math, don't take this guy. He teaches you the bare minimum and expects you to know/learn the rest. He's a great guy, don't get me wrong, but he's not a good teacher. If your bad at math, avoid him at all costs.
I like this professor. Hes a good guy. Of course the class is hard, so picking things up isn't quite easy. He did hold "workshops" where you would come in for extra help (which helped a lot). I didn't do good at all in his class, but it's not his fault, math gets hard.
If you decide to take him you will definitely need to teach yourself a lot of the material. He knows his stuff but can be very unclear at times. If you have prior knowledge in Calc then it should be alright. Gives weekly HW assignments.
He is a really good guy. Gives a lot of work, but if you do the work you will be able to pass his exams. I took his winter session, am not a math person at all and I was able to pass!
Great Professor, A little hard to understand sometimes but is always willing to help you out as much as he can. As long as you do your homework and participate in class, just show some kind of interest he helps you out alot! Real sweet man!
Great Professor, just do your work and you will get good grade. He usually counts 8/10 questions on a test and he drops the lowest test score. Overall, good professor.
Professor Miller is a great professor! He is very helpful and friendly. Can be a bit unclear at times because he knows his stuff so well so its a bit hard to get down to our level.lol but he gives extra credit and gives alot of opportunity to pass the class. His homework and reviews are similar to the exam, so just go over it and you will be A ok!
-strong accent -speaks towards the board -must teach yourself to pass -but a nice guy
doesn't explain just wants u to know everything on test takes off points for the littlest things. hard class and hw is online. don't buy book buy it with the hw which is webassign
Not bad if you ask questions, the online hw was hard though, sometimes he posted material uncovered in class but he gives a week for it, he gives projects as a review for tests, he makes a day to do it in class and basically if you do the project correctly, you'll pass the test decently
Great Professor, I personally took Calculus II in two other schools and I ended up dropping it. But Miller is a great Professor and broke it down in a easy to understand form taking him for Calculus III. Do homework and the PROBLEMS DONE IN CLASS are on the test so if he repeats it in more than one class guaranteed to be on the Test.
one of the most horrid professors i ever had, doesn't explain anything speaks low and bombards you with work nonstop
He wasnt bad. He is clear and if you need help I'm sure He would help but I never asked, personally. He made the final exam which was 6 questions and super easy. 1 online hw a week and he gives us a small packet before each test which is like 12 questions. I missed a few assignments and got an A so its not that hard. He drops the lowest test grade
Prof. Miller was great. This was one of the hardest class I have taken, and everyone had trouble but he was helpful. Went to his office after hours as a group and he was very nice and helpful then too. If he knows you are trying, in class on time, asking questions, and doing the homework you will get a great grade. Put in the work and your good.
Honestly if you take this class you better pray you pass. He talks to the board and does not know what he is doing. He cant grade properly and makes a lot of errors when he is explaining a problem. Takes a lot of points off for notation errors. Expects you to know everything. Doesn't let your peers help you in class. Do not recommend this class!
Professor Miller is very strange. He often gives quizzes that are just questions from the previous day, but his tests can be hard. In order to pass his class, just review your notes because he will definitely give you the same exact questions that you did in class. Participation also helps because he will remember you.
Taking him for pre-calc, hes a really smart guy but just doesnt know how to teach. He doesnt know how to control talkers in the class. Also the online homework is bs; youll be typing the same answer in 5 different ways until you get it the exact way THEY want it. Tests are easy, he gives projects with identical questions going to be on the test.
For the love of all that's holy... do not take. I studied so hard in my last math class and got an A-. I did the same in this class and got a B-. He'll "teach" you something and not be clear about it so you'll have to learn it all over again on your own time. There's so much more I want to say but I'll end up writing too much. Just don't take him.
Professor Miller is a very intelligent professor who isn't animated but does know what he's talking about and is willing to help, it's just a matter of asking him. Once you start talking to him, especially in a smaller class, he takes an interest in your understanding of the material. If he sees you making an effort, you'll do well in his class
He was literally the most unclear professor I have ever had in my life. Miller talks to the board 99% of the time and although he is very neat with his work, he is all over the place. He gives projects. My friend bombed every test, had 5+ absences, handed in all projects late, and missed multiple hws but went to his office a lot and he gave her a B
Miller is a mess! When he teaches, his baseball cap and sunglasses are on and his back is towards you the whole time so you can't hear him mumbling about what he's writing on the board. He never responds to e-mails or remembers conversations, so he's no help. Ultimately, the only thing that saved my grade was getting a tutor and acing the final...
He talks to the board mostly, but his lectures are great and you can really understand him but as class progresses he won't go too in depth in problems an material that has been done before and the students are already expected to know so sometimes he can sound vague but you only need to ask him. He's very helpful one on one. Amazing professor.
Worst prof in the history of mankind. He has a thick accent you can't understand, talks to the board, hard grader, and his writing is chicken scratch. He bounces all over the place and isn't clear. He gave us a project with questions from " the textbook" that wasn't even on it. I regret taking him! BEWARE and save yourselves
He talks to the board most of the time, and he doesn't even respond to emails at all!
Unless you're a math wizard, his lectures are ALL he will test on so attendance is mandatory. $100 textbook plus code for online homework is a total rip off. His tests are also pretty hard. However, he does curve at the end of the semester so your grade won't be as bad as you expect.
Terrible. Talks to the board, doesn't explain the topic well. He doesn't tell you when there's HW due on webassign so you have to check it by yourself, and if you missed it there's nothing you can do. His projects are ridiculously long for no reason and he does not do exam review. You basically have to teach yourself.
I didn't think calculus with Miller would be so bad. At this moment, I realized I messed up. His lectures aren't clear, he talks with his back facing the class, and has chicken scratch hand writing. I understood the tutors when I went, then everything the tutors explained to me went out the window the moment i went back to his class. Avoid Miller.
This professor is horrible. he is very hard to understand considering he barely talks throughout the class. His homework is hours long and does not explain the work. His lack of communication makes the class even harder because he isn't one for answering questions or giving extra help.I DO NOT recommend him, find someone else.
He seemed a bit aloof at times, talks to the board, and difficult to understand. In fact he was actually not that great of a professor for most people. But, if youre good at math and/or can self teach the class, then he can teach you to love math because he likes to teach other random topics in math. In fact, Im minoring in math because of him!
Took Miller for Calc 1 after failing it before, and he taught twice the material the previous professor did and actually connected the topics to one another. Very understanding and laid back guy, exams are very fair. There is a lot of homework, but it's doable. Actually made me understand Calc and made me excited for class.
Not a very nice person, got an aggressive attitude to him. Listen up and follow his rules. Very serious about his class and not very accommodating or helpful.
I had this instructor in the Fall semester. His work performance as a professor is mediocre. He mumbles to himself as he teaches the class. He does give lots of homework assignments. However, he does not go over those assignments, so best of luck to the people who never took Calculus I in high school.
Prof. Miller is one of those profs where you feel genuinely bad because he is such a nice dude but such a bad prof. He's nearly impossible to understand and talks so slowly and mumbles. His lectures actually confused me so I stopped listening and taught myself everything out of the textbook. Class is test heavy but he does want everyone to pass.
Professor Miller is awesome, I took him 5 times in my life! He makes you work for your grade. He teaches you the concept, and makes it the students responsibly to understand the procedure. He enforces independent learning 100 percent. Take probably Miller and become that independent learner. A lot of homework tho.
Emerson Miller, Fall of 2018, wore glasses almost all the time. He speaks like a lung cancer patient but it's not that bad. Sometimes makes mistakes on board and acknowledges his mistakes. He will teach you during his office hours given he's not in meeting. He uses Webassign, like Aleks, for homework generally. Txtbook understandable. Email reply0
He is a good professor. Just make sure you pay attention in class. One thing is that sometimes he writes and talks with his back to the class while writing on the board. He will explain if you're confused. The tests he gives are similar to projects and homework that he gave in his class.
Overall average prof for Cal 1. His lectures are okay but he tends to block the board A lot. Don't take this class if you aren't a self-learner because you will eventually spend time on youtube. Gave 15 Hmk assignments (including 3 projects which is really just more hmk questions). Make sure you do them cause some reappear on the 3 exams.
Never really taches what he posts on Webassign.
horrible worst professor ever. I would say don't take him but he is the only option for this course. this school needs to hire better "professors"
Very soft-spoken and monotone. Not a class for a student who ISN'T a self-learner.
The feedback he gives on the tests isn't explained fully, the homeworks on Cengage are more complicated than what he gives on class (so be prepared to read), he sometimes blocks the board and the handwriting isn't that clear when he does problems. It isn't participation-heavy, but he doesn't allow for questions either. If anything, sit in the front
very difficult to understand, never teaches what he posts on web assign
I do not recommend this Prof. He lectures are very unclear. I did not understand anything he said. I had to drop the class because of this, in the middle of the semester.
The way he talks, is hard to understand. His lectures and the way he teaches is very confusing.
Professor Miller can be tough to follow at times, but if you stay engaged and use resources like Unstuck ai, you can succeed. Attend class, read the textbook, and you'll learn a lot.
to be honest he's not that bad. he's very chill and if you really don't understand hell always help after class. attendance really matters but be ready to learn on your own and study a lot. PAY ATTENTION TO HIS HW& PROJECT there basically what his exams/final look like. Also, one exam gets dropped. Also, his voice is healing so be patient.
