Prof Sargsyan is a nice man, but very tough grader. MATH 245 is hard enough wo having to do all the homework problems which takes 20 hoursweek. We started with 40 students, by the end 22 were left, and half of those failed. You go for help at his office, and the whole class is there with you. You basically teach yourself in this hard class!!
Toughest math class I've ever taken. He's a tough teacher too. Problems take a long time to complete, and I went to math tutoring lab for half the semester only to get a C in the class. I was working too which made it even more harder for me to get a good grade, try and take someone else if you can!!
Bad teacher! Was not fully ready to teach the class & lost himself during lectures. Would not recommend him to anyone!
Nice Professor, he tries his best to explain something, he gives study guide before each test, I recommend him
Really tries to make sure you understand the material and does go off on rants sometimes but in a way they're kinda funny and knowledgeable. Used my textbook twice cuz the online materials had great examples and tutorials. Does good reviews before tests but make sure u ask a lot of questions, really appreciates the feedback.
Tough grader, tests are very tough too. He goes off in rants at times too, I went to math tutoring lab and had 2 other classes, just to pass with a C. Take anyone else besides him if you can.
Please, try not to take him! Nice guy but He had no idea what he was teaching.I had taken this class twice and I thought it was going to get easier but seriously this was the worst math class ever, too confusing to understand what he was talking about. And you have to memorize all the formulas! No graphing calculator and 14 pg. Exam! Just don't!
I have taken Emil for a couple math classes already, he is great! All these people who are talking bad didnt put their best foot foward and want to learn. I will keep taking him for math as long as I can. Especially if you're a stem major, this professor is ideal. He is a great guy too!
I think this class is for those who already understand math. The class goes by very quickly and the next you know, he's giving you a three chapter exam. He needs to take more time making sure that all students understand the topic
This was his first time teaching stat, he is very knowledgeable and wants his students to really understand the stuff. He's a nice guy, does his best to have his students take something from the course and even adjust tests so that people have a better chance to pass. Do the hw it's what will be on the tests, put in the work and the class is easy.
He was an amazing teacher, of course he makes you work for your grade I mean is math, plus he prepares you for the other courses, he not only teaches you because that its his job but he teaches you where would you use that formula and from where it comes from. I work hard for my grade and everytime I would get lost he explained again.
He takes time going over the material. He is always available during office hours and he even offers study sessions for the test. Sometimes he gets off topic and talks about higher level math but not always.
He is very helpful when it comes to explaining the subject since he is passionate for math. Nice sense of humor. You can't miss a day or you will be lost the rest of the semester. Makes you work for your grade and won't let you do makeups on tests, so don't skip class. Overall, good teacher if you actually wish to learn the subject.
He is a really good teacher. He really takes his time to make sure you understand the material all you have to do is ask. He's also very passionate about math and makes sure you understand what's going on in the formula and why. Would definitely recommend him!
Emil is by far the greatest math instructor I've had, he really takes the time to make sure you understand the material. He always has a review right before any exam for any last minute questions you might have .. with effort and dedication you'll learn a lot from him. Amazing professor !
Okay where to start, this professor spends the mornings before class reading the book and picking random and unhelpful examples and teaching it. He is very annoying/irresponsible and will assign homework that has NOTHING to do with the stuff he taught that day. DO NOT TAKE HIM, his lack of knowledge amazes me for a college professor!
Sees his students needs and tries to meet them. Willing to go the extra mile to help you. Gives many examples.
Very amicable. Speaks clearly. Patient. Entertaining. Not boring. Tries to make class fun. Kind soul.
Prof. Emil is a nice person but I won't take a class with him again. He explains things too fast and humors instead of explaining things more clear at times. You are forced to read the math book which in the end makes almost no sense because the lecture is incomprehensible at times too.
Professor Emil spends the majority of the class time going over hw problems and then atempts to cram in the lecture we were supposed to have in 15mins. Also when a student asks him for help he looks at the problem and then says he doesn't know how to do it. My recommendation is to take another professor, perferably one who knows what he's doing.
Breaks down criteria clearly. Will make sure you understand a topic before moving on to the next. Very lenient with homework. Allows makeup exams. Popcorn picks his students to really engage them in his lectures, rather than the usual "listen and learn" method. Would definitely choose this professor again for future math courses.
He is a great teacher, and really wants his students to understand the material. Failed the course due to personal reasons, but did everything he could to help me make up test, and homework. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and be prepared to participate.
I toke Math 125 with Professor Sargyan, I recently toke his Math 245 class. His lectures are not very clear, he assigns a lot of homework, and we were tested every two weeks. I recommend for anyone who will take this course to show up to class everyday, before every test make sure to go over the practice test that he provides on Mymathlab.
Do your work and ask for help!!!
I honestly loved this professor. He is willing to work with you if you don't undersrand something. I would recommend this professor to anyone who is learning Algebra. He is a lenient grader, but he wants you to succeed. So just ask questions and go to tutoring if you need extra help. I liked math because of this professor. Thanks!
I took this professor in a 5 week course, I honestly could have done alot better, but I just had to work so I could not study as much as I could in a regular length semester. But I would still recommend this professor. He is an amazing math teacher. I got a C because I was limited on study time, not because of the professor.
I hate math and will always get fails. But because of him I understand him and I got an A all my tests i got 90%s he is amazing if you want to pass and understand math he is your guy!!!
This dude is pretty cool and laid back for a math teacher. Although, he tends to make you feel like you don't know anything by saying he did almost everything we are learning in elementary school, which kind of sucks. We are in that class because we suck bruh, don't rub it in our faces. Anyways, he's cool and he is good at what he does.
Teacher's pretty laid back. Doesn't really seem to care whether you come in late or not. Gives a lot of homework, but is fairly easy if you put in the effort. Gives a test after every chapter, which is pretty helpful. Didn't use my textbook once. Sometimes makes you feel kind of dumb by saying 3rd graders can do the problems better than you
Teacher does not care about students success. Should not be teaching.
Really bad Professor, very unorganized and took weeks to grade test/homework. Dont take him , if you dare!!!
I took this class for the summer and I regret it. Professor Sargsyan is not prepared for his lectures and it was very rushed. He makes you feel not too confident about doing math. He drops a lot of grades (Hw, quizzes, and test) and there is no extra credit option.
No quizzes, homework was collected til the end of the semester (math lab) and would take literally weeks to return exam grades, never took attendance. This professor would be ideal for independent students By the end of the semester there were only 12 students left in class. However, he is approachable and available for students who want to succeed
He is one of the best professors and humans I have met.
Solid professor, follow his practice test and you'll pass
Very goofy, makes tons of dad jokes, sings LOUDly in class, he really goes off topic when he does that. But when he does teach he teaches thoroughly. Will answer your questions. His tests are hard, teaches very fast. Recommend taking him more than 2 times a week and do not miss class. TONS of homework but he may give extensions. Not an "easy" prof
His an alright person, but definitely don't take him on the short semester cause his class gets tougher. If possible take another teacher that would offer extra credit.
He's very educated and knows math. Sometimes he can get tongue-tied when he's explaining concepts so it can be confusing to understand, but he's available outside of class and willing to answer questions. He does assign a lot of homework and a few groupwork, but if you can give valid arguments he can change the due date.
PRofessor Sargsyan was organized, and available whenever you need him for a question. He holds occasional video conf sessions to help students complete assignments, and to study for exams.
I never do this but it is needed to aware others of my experience. The professor sometimes dumbs us down. He makes us feel like if we don't pursue a degree in statistics we are not going anywhere. he just throws shade at you for choosing a different degree. Also, in class doesn't lecture most of the time and tends to go off topic.
The hybrid stats course was overall merely okay, but this professor should not be your first choice. Sure hybrid courses are meant for you to teach yourself, but on the days we would meet he did not lecture. If you stay on top of things you could pass. The total class vibe was not great and most of the students in the class dropped it halfway.
Extremely fair professor. The class can be difficult if you make it difficult. You need to do 80% of the work and practicing and use the lecture days as a tutoring session. This professor goes out of his way to have video conference aside from the lecture days which are extremely helpful.
A lot of hw along with lectures mainly reading if you miss the assignments due in a week 6-10 assignments you wont pass as a first choice its better elsewhere as the professor teaches if you already know
Professor Sargsyan is one of the most accommodating teachers Ive ever taken. Hes accessible to explain anything and definitely does anything he can to help you pass the class. The only reason i got a C is because i focused on other classes and didnt do all my work, but he definitely made sure to help me in any way possible to make up points.
Genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about Math (and CS). Very fair and reasonable. Willing to give extra credit assignments, but makes you work for it. Lectures are interesting, especially the logic chapters. Tests and homework are challenging, but fair. Overall great guy -- highly recommended for Discrete Math. Tesekkurler :)
He gives a lot of HW and little time to complete it. He also teaches the material like it should be review for the students instead of treating it like its a new subject he's teaching to the students.
Does not respond quickly, offers no help, is not clear ,got my last post taken down so I'm going to make it short and sweet. If you aren't comfortable with math, don't expect him to help you, you are on your own. (All his ratings speak for themselves )
Math has always been a challenge, so this was the most difficult class Ive ever taken. However, professor Sargsyan made it possible to succeed. He went above and beyond to offer extra zoom hours during pandemic learning. He was very responsive, attentive, and most helpful. I even retained some math info in my brain! Gave most efforts to help!
He was very lenient with due dates which was extremely helpful for being a 5 week course. A LOT of homework, 3 exams, lowest will be dropped. Worth 40% of grade. Then Final Exam, worth 30% of grade. He requires work to be shown and expects you to submit scratch notes right after exams. It's a lot of work, don't get behind, work hard, ask questions.
I took Calc 265 (didn't have the option here), and he was by far the best math teacher I've ever had. Very flexible with homework and tests, reasonable, and the homework was manageable. Tests were similar to the homework. Would definitely recommend him!
He doesn't have experience teaching this class and it shows. I highly do not recommend, unless you want to spend the rest of the semester trying to learn the material on your own using whatever online resources you can find because his lectures are a waste of time. He goes off tangents and doesn't fully explain a chapter before moving on
All of the homework assignments, chapter exams and final exam are completed online via the Cengage website. However, only the final exam was proctored and that was done via a remote service. The four chapter exams and final exam are carbon copies of the sample exams, just with fewer questions and the occasional changed number. No textbook required.
I dropped the class instantly. There is way too much work that is expected from students. To top it off the quizzes and final exams are proctored. So much homework. Try someone else if you can.
He expects us to complete so much homework in a matter of 5 weeks which is insane to me. Please take this class with someone else or in another school. The tests have one-hour time limit which is not enough time to complete. All tests are proctored!!!!
Had him for math 238. Winter session so an assignment everyday of the week. Time consuming but doable. Many people in the class were struggling so he opened up all the assignments to be due until the last day of the class. He has office hours every day and will allow you to take each exam twice. Same questions different numbers. Wants you to pass.
He truly cares about his students. I took his winter course and despite the fast pace he is understanding and supports us in multiple ways. Truly wants the best for his students. One of the best online classes I have took by far! A lot of homework for winter course but that is to be expected.
Emil is an amazing professor. He wants everyone who takes this class to pass. You take 6 quizzes during the semester and the lowest one gets dropped. You get two tries on each quiz. My advice is take really good notes after the first attempt and on the second attempt you will for sure get an A. The final is cumulative but he may curve. :)
Honestly the best professor you can have for math 230. He makes time to meet with you and is really good at answering your questions. Absolutely one of the best math professors I have ever taken. Highly highly recommend.
This math professor is probably the best instructor at community college in the state of California. He is very caring and teaches well, he is also very responsible and always gives great feedbacks to his students. Although he assigns lots of homeworks and other lab assignments, but he wants his students to learn well in classes. Take his classes!
Hardest course I have ever taken 100000 assignments a day, every week you have no breaks! Exams on Saturdays that are proc exams, extremely hard class never take this class. SO SO NOT WORTH IT.
He is the best best professor i have ever seen
I enjoyed the class. If you have an already busy schedule, I can see how you can get behind on assignments. All exams are proctored through your choice of Zoom or Yuja. All homework and exams are through Cengage. If you put in the effort, this class should not be a problem. Textbook is provided through Cengage.
Given, this was an asynchronous course so I cannot attest for him as a human being, but the tests, exercises, worksheets, and discussions were excessive. He has no lectures posted. You watch math videos from other people that are helpful, but still, I did not enjoy this class.
I have never left a negative review before this man. Very passive aggressive person, constantly makes snide remarks. He makes it very clear that he doesn't have a set plan for lectures. You're better off teaching yourself at home. I did appreciate his practice tests, they were similar to what's given on the exams. I'm sure he's bearable online.
This professor is better off teaching online than in person. Would make passive aggressive comments whenever students did not give him a correct and direct answer. Conveyed a hostile and matter-of-fact tone but I digress. I basically had to self-teach through the textbook because he just could not maintain a fulfilling learning environment.
Others pointed this out for his async classes-- he doesn't actually do the lectures himself. They're old videos on youtube. Those videos are really helpful, but it didn't really feel "like a class" if that tracks. the problems were... odd. He did, however, drop the lowest score from the gradebook, so that was kind.
He loves math. Lectures are good but sometimes goes off topic leading to you have to fill in certain gaps on your own. Exams follow practice exams. Very accessible and willing to compromise on grading and give partial credit. In person classes he does give pop quizzes roughly one per week. Uses a lot of wolfram mathematica. Good experience overall
Fully online course. Very accessible, willing to effectively give private lectures when asked. Follows the book very strictly. Exams are similar to practice exams. A decent amount of self-learning and reading the book as he does not provide long lectures, rather short videos that cover each topic. Good amount of content, pretty challenging course
I took an 8-week Math 261 session online class with Prof. Sargsyan. Expect to spend at least 2 hours daily on homework. His exams closely resemble the Sample Prep Exam homework. If you complete the HW you will most likely pass every exam. The textbook includes videos for each lesson and he is accesible if you have any questions or need help.
Emil doesn't deserve any of these bad ratings. I didn't do most of my HW on time, and I still got a B, b/c he has no problem with extending deadlines all the time. He dropped SOME assignments at the end of the semester. I had him for 8 weeks, this class was easy. Every assignment is open note. Final is 25% of grade. 4 Exams are 35% of grade. HW 20%
This 8-week course involved a significant amount of work, but it was certainly doable. The instructor was highly approachable and responsive to student requirements. The practice exams were an excellent resource and closely reflected the actual exams, which simplified the study process. Put in the necessary work, and you'll do well.
If you want to read about discrete math and be on your own. This is the class. He doesn't even provide lectures of his own nor study guides for his quizzes. Quizzes and final are proctored. You are required to do an oral presentation to "prove" you know the material even though exams are already proctored which is tedious. Overall bad
Literally taken anyone else. Doesn't teach himself yet will deduct points for the smallest of mistakes and is very condescending. Never again
The work and material are ok but your on your own so your most likely better off with someone else.
bad that's all there is to say
I did well but i think this class is better off with actual lectures and not so much homework. Professor takes a long time to answer your messages so keep that in mind.
Second time taking this professor; took him for calculus & stats. There are a couple of assignments each week, both the hw's and quizzes have unlimited attempts, and there is one paper. He is very accessible and helpful, responds quickly, & is willing to accommodate students. Overall, is a very supportive professor and would recommend him.
This professor assigns so much homework. I am literally doing homework all day every day with almost no breaks. Also doesn't have any of his own lectures so you're literally just paying a bunch of money to read a textbook and teach yourself
He is a really good professor, and he always answers emails when help is needed. The assignments were not that hard, as it was all based on the lab which was really helpful.
Great professor, you need to buy the book, but he gives you material to read, videos, etc. Reachable, he is very nice. He extended my homework twice and he let me retake some exams because I ran out of time. I learned a lot, very chill professor. At end of semester he dropped some assignments. He proctors with Yuja face and screen. Take him!
I did not enjoy the first two weeks of this class. his grading structure is Cengage Homework: 20%, 3 Proctored Exams:35%, Quizzes: 20%, Final:25%. I usually enjoy a hard calculus course, but this professor's course is not hard. It is annoying. assigns 4/5 homework assignments per week and a quiz steer clear from this guy, you will hate it!
I also took him for math 272. For math 265 aka math 261 he was great. He was kind and offered extra help especially since the class was live lectures. However for math 272 it was all self teach with no lectures. He can be passive aggressive if you don't know how to explain to his liking. Overall a good professor for lamc math if you listen and ask.
This professor was amazing. I enjoyed every single lecture. He always tried his best to make students engaged by participating. He was all around a great guy, he's funny and caring. He would honestly give great life advice and be willing to talk about anything. Workload wasn't that bad, nor difficult, and he was very understanding about extensions
such an understanding professor. i think he's one of the best math professors ive had!
