he always made himself available
really dumbs things down, but in a good (sometime hilarious) way
weirdest guy ever. Spends way too much lecture time on pointless material
Nice Prof, used lots of examples and goes at a good pace
Great prof, slow pace but very clear
Great teacher. Explains everything nicely. Cute when he tries to be funny...
love his examples always sums everything up before tests
No Comments
little fat but knows his math
bumbling and cute. one of the better math profs
Very clearly explains all concepts and has great examples. You get bored sometimes, but he prepares you for the test.

first math prof i had. answers questions very well and lectures are easy to understand! knows what he's doing!!
He may not be the best math instructor i had..but he's fairly clear and most of all, he's really nice!
Very clear and rigorous. I've been to other calc lectures, and I fee like I lucked out to actually get a prof that can communicate the information properly (albeit I still can't understand all the mathspeak).
it's math. what can i say. i don't understand it very much. he's good with examples. when he uses math jargon though, i feel like going to sleep because i don't understand, and sleep is a peaceful state, which i enjoy very much
math is evil. but le blanc does a great job explaining it. prepares you well for tests and the exam. and his jittery bubbly nature is really cute.
If i never went to his lectures, i would most certainly be lost... During the lecture, the material makes no sence, but after the lecture, it all comes together....
Clear and very helpful. Good speed, reachable, great prof overall, especially compared to what I have heard of the other MAT135 profs.
he is such a cool guy....he explains everything in detail and really wants you to understand the concepts...goes at the perfect rate...i love the hair
hes a cool guy i guess he does mumble a lot but hes ok i like his hair
Leblanc is basically all you can ask for from a professor.
He's fine as an instructor, but going to class is pretty pointless. Just learn from the textbook and study past tests if you're happy with 70+.
He's alright. You can learn just as well from the text, however, he does go over the more abstract concepts in class if you're into that kind of stuff. He's sort of boring, buth e tries to be clear and is very very organized.
Prof Le Blanc explains the concepts behind calculus in depth, which I think is important in the course. He's quite clear with his explanations.... overall a good calc prof! Class is less crowded than Lam's. You can't go wrong with choosing LeBlanc!
Le Blanc is a very caring professor. He is very approachable, and he teaches well too. Some may say that he's boring, but I think he can't help it if he's monotone. Tests are semi-hard. But overall good prof.
he made me like calculus - to an extent. that itself is quite a feat. amazing prof to have...i am glad i didn't get into lam's lecture (too much hype). very caring prof and wants you to understand the concepts. tends to mumbles, but that's not a big problem unless you sit too far back in class.
Worst professor ever. His teaching is unclear and his tests are hard. He mumbles a lot and always enphasizes on "30 seconds" instead of the real class. He is very into leather jackets and he looks like super mario. The only reason you will choose him as professor is to hear his ONE famous joke. But thats it. and is not even worth it.
Worst professor ever!!!!his lecture notes are useless, and it doesn't make any help, and his tests are extremely hard, WORST PROFESSOR !!
I didn't like him af first, but nothing changed more quickly than my attitude when I discovered how interactive he was. He'd constantly ask questions and he'd wait (sometimes as long as maybe 3 minutes) for students to come up with their own solutions. I was in his 3-hour evening class yet I never felt tired, thanks to his way of teaching.
Excellent prof! Very friendly, clear, and patient. Great atmosphere during class.
Very bad at lecturing. His calculus classes seemes like english classes by the amount of pages that students copy down from the blackboard. He does not explain topics clearly and is very bad at picking up class feedback. Would constantly get headaches in class until stopped going. He does not write the exams, so his lecture examples r not relevant
Very organized notes, explains everything carefully, and occasionally adds some interesting diversion. The only problem I had with him is that he begins slowly to make sure everyone understands the basics, and moves on a lot faster
At first I didn't like the prof because he was really slow, and i felt like it was agonizing. But after a while when everyone started dropping out of the class it was nice to have a class of 20 people where you can ask the prof questions and he takes good care to answer them, you have to get to know this prof, boring at first but he is very sweet
He really gets a sense of what the class undertands and doesn't understand, and he spends more time on the things the class has a harder time with. He explains everything clearly and gives a lot of opportunities for questions. Very approachable and I found he was a better prof than Lam.
This course is designed for those who did not take calc in highschool. And though I understood everything bc i did take it in highschool, i knew someone who had taken calc in highschool, but she had to take it for her major. And she had a lot trouble understanding the teacher. I would say, if you took calc in highschool, then your good to go.
A lot of the first year calc professors are horrible. That's generally agreed upon. Having been taught by both Lam (the general favourite of the profs) and him, I can say that I think Leblanc is the best prof for the course. His organization, relaxed demeanor, and competence for the course material fully prepares you for the examinations.
I bumped into Leblanc one day afternoon, later I asked him bunch of questions about how to ace the midterm. He was nice but he assumed anyone with a mental disability can have the social networking capacity to get help from classmates.
Best LeBlanc NA so far after Bjergsen
Prof LeBlanc speaks gentlely but clearly
LeBlanc is an amazing prof. He makes very clear class notes and answers student questions along the way. The textbook questions are too easy compared to the test/exam, so you might want to focus on past exams/consider going to paid seminars.
well, my comment may be biased. U of T students generally like him and say he is the second best after lam, but I think he is JUST better than others, not that good. his lectures are dry. but you can expect good notes in comparison to others. if mat doesn't interest don't take his 3 hour lecture...
Honestly, the course isn't that bad when you have the right prof to guide you through it. His lectures were a little dry and you could possibly fall asleep during that class, but his notes help. ALOT. Read up before you go to class, and he makes more sense. Exam questions usually set by coordinator, look up past exam and you'll have an idea.
man is like winnie the pooh he is so caring
Trash lecturer! I didn't go 1/2 the time. Get ready to love the textbook because thats all you need to pass. You have to teach yourself because apparently no one can teach math properly! overall, read the textbook, do your homework and eat your vegetables!
His lectures are relatively dry. Lots of writing. Does go through practice questions, although those questions are straightforward. The upside of this Professor is that he takes up the previous year's midterm and exam before the actual assessment. If you can't keep up, he has office hours where your questions will be answered step-by-step
I personally do not find that I learn math from being lectured on it so didn't find the lectures helpful but if that is your learning style then I would recommend LeBlanc. He gives VERY good notes. Very clear and you basically can just copy down everything on the board and there's not much else. He was easy to understand. Better than many others
Great prof, explains the concepts very clearly. A prof that explains clearly and doesn't go off topic is genuinely hard to find in most of the first year courses. His class is worth being in.
10/10 would reccomend
chill prof. he totally reminds me of cogsworth from beauty & the beast though
personally found it really hard to understand what he was saying sometimes/focusing in general. gets really triggered if you take a pic of the blackboard, guess he put a copyright on everything he writes on the board or something. i stopped going to lectures because i couldn't deal with doing the webworks BEFORE we learned the content.
Very good lecturer. He usually teaches the simplest calculus course UofT offers but sometimes he includes concepts that aren't important to that class, like, for example, the geometric intuition behind radius of convergence or fundamental theorem of algebra for fraction decomposition. But he is good overall.
Prof LeBlanc can be a savage which is funny sometimes, and his lectures were very clear (esp how he writes on the board). He won't like it if you try to or even look like you are taking a photo but you can just sit closer to the board and other than that, great prof!
Prof. LeBlanc's lectures can get dry and boring sometimes, but he gives very good and clear notes. I had him for MAT135 and I would've taken his MAT136 class if my schedule allowed. One of the best options for 1st year mathematics in my opinion. P.S. If you plan to use your phone to take pictures of the board, well good luck to you!
Prof. LeBlanc was a decent lecturer, little harsh (or honest) at times, however, he spoke well and knows the course. I don't think he knows how to address/talk to 'younger' students. He tried his best to implement the TopHat system but lectures were a little awkward and its participation marked your class attendance.
Decent prof. Notes are a bit scattered. Doesn't let you take pictures or eat in class so don't take it during your lunch hour. A bit fast-paced so keep up with homework
I failed my midterm, but when I went to him, he helped me study by answering any questions I had. BUT all the other exams were amazing! He is the best professor! I was ready to give up this course but his guidance helped me. But again, YOU have to do all the work and he will help for sure! I am taking his lecture for MAT136! HE'S THE BEST!!!!!!
He teaches really well. He goes over material that will be tested so make sure to attend lecture. He does not like students taking pictures of the board.
Very caring, have organized and clear lectures, making calculus so much easier to understand which is the holy reason I could pass 135 (didn't have him for 136 and suffered big time).
Very good at explaining math concepts and exam questions!
He is so boring I fell asleep in class one too many times. He also doesn't let you eat in class lol.
His lectures are boring and fast-paced, but he honestly prepares you so well for tests. I had better notes and understanding of the class content than my friends who had other lecturers. He's kinda intimidating tho bc he doesn't like it when you eat or take pictures and says things like 'you should know the answer to this tophat question" lol
This guy doesn't even write in full words on the board with tiny handwriting that students have trouble reading off the boards. He rushes through examples without letting anyone copy the solutions down.. He also doesn't speak loud enough either so students have trouble hearing him
He seemed unwilling to help, his boring lectures and stuff he posted are useless. His exams are BRUTAL and LONG with 50% averages, he never curved any exams, such a tough grader and never told us the averages, dont ever take the course with him, wait for a different instructor
He seems to know his material, but he goes over things very fast when talking... Many students obviously ignore his rule of not taking pics/videos using camera phones in class as many have secretly taking those as soon he turns around writing on the board...
Explains things in the most complicated way possible, pretty boring I skipped all his classes cause I did not learn anything anyway.
His lectures are fast and he's not the best at explaining. He expects you to know everything before you come to class, and he doesn't provide any supplementary material (other profs have given their classes extra practice for tests). But, he drills in some key points that you need for the exams, but it'll just be better to choose another prof.
No online materials, wastes more time writing on the board than doing problems. Better off reading the textbook because he repeats the same things in an oversimplified and confusing way. Struggles to communicate clearly and effectively. Marks were terrible for quizzes and exams, don't recommend Leblanc. (96% average in high school). Not worth it.
Im surprised by the negative ratings for prof leblanc. Although I didnt get the best mark in the class it was my own fault for not trying my 100% best. He was a great prof and actually wrote notes on the bored for us to copy and summarizes everything nicely and doesnt ramble
Prof LeBlanc himself was a good professor, he can't be blamed for the content heaviness of the course. MAT135 just required a lot of time that I wasn't prepared to give it because I was focused on other things. Other people have said that they had an easy time with the course though. Prof LeBlanc was a funny lecturer who was very welcoming
Although his lecturing was pretty clear and concepts were explained decently enough, I felt sometimes he rushed through lectures just for the sake of finishing given textbook chapters in a week. His attitude was definitely off-putting to many students as well, and at least from my experience, he didn't host office hours at his scheduled time.
This professor was the worst math teacher I have had. He does not teach concepts and only summarizes what we are meant to read in the textbook. His style of teaching was subpar and he had a horrible attitude during classes. He would purposely choose to use the long and complicated way of examples instead of the short and easier ones.
When deciding a MAT135 prof, I saw Mr. Leblanc had a good rating, but oh was I wrong. I, and others in the class, felt like we learned nothing in class. He would go over so many word problems, but not the basic concept first. It hard to do problems without knowing how to compute first. Some things on the quiz weren't in lectures or the textbook.
Clear teaching, patient when answering student questions, good notes, well-planned lectures
I took mat135 with Leblanc because of a decent review on this website, but he DOES NOT teach ANYTHING. Even when I approached him with questions, he said to go back and read the textbook. His style of teaching is just very bad. He was only a TA last year. DO NOT TAKE. He doesn't explain any concept.
Did not like to answer questions and often insinuated that students for unprepared for asking him questions. Did not explain very well nor provide exercises that were pertinent to what we were tested on. Relied heavily on the textbook rather than teaching to the point where you might as well skip lecture and read the textbook.
Very hard to follow lectures and seemed impatient when student's didn't understand concepts straight away. Material wasn't too difficult, but he complicated everything. Also seems to hate technology - doesn't use powerpoint at all and does not allow photos of chalk board notes.
DO NOT. GO TO PANCHENKO IF YOU CAN!!! EMILE IS THE WORST
Out of all my professors this semester, he honestly wasn't that bad. It's true that he doesn't do a great job at explaining certain concepts, especially when compared to Panchenko, but it's not like it's impossible to learn from him either. I will say, I found it frustrating that he didn't allow pictures to be taken in class -_-
Calculus itself is not that bad; it only becomes difficult if the professor willingly does not teach and claims, "everything you need to know is in the textbook" therefore implying that he will not teach you jack schnitzel. Furthermore, does not let you take photos (Will snatch students' t-cards left, right, and center.). TERRIBLE. DO NOT ENROL!
You have to put in the work. His lectures are confusing and overall not helpful. Lecture materials were rarely posted. No pictures in class. Textbook will be your bff because its the only way to understand whats going on. He did give us chocolate on Halloween. It is possible to do well but it will be entirely of your own efforts.
Did not post lecture notes and we could not take pictures in class. He did not explain anything well, and just expects you to know everything already.
impatient and does not allow pictures, will never take again ended up going to another prof's class
While people seem to hate on Professor Leblanc, he was not at all bad. Sure, we weren't allowed to take pictures of the board, but that was just his preference. Otherwise, his explanations, examples, and ways of teaching were extremely clear. Most people are just discontent with their MAT135 grade and will attribute it to their professor.
people give him a bad wrap but he chill
Overall, Professor LeBlanc was okay. In hindsight however he prepared us for everything we needed to know for the evaluations and how to do them. He just did so in a slow seemingly useless way. There were a few really good days where he taught and explained concepts well, but about 5/6 lectures just seemed useless. You won't be making many notes.
This prof was so awful. He didnt explain things in order eg. ABCDE, he would jump around inconsistently eg. CAZDEB. Stickler about masks even when mandate dropped and wouldn't give enough time to discuss in group and then expect you to have a detailed answer when he didn't teach anything useful.
Teaching wise, not too good, sometimes you can't even tell what he's saying and his explanations are rather unclear. Attending classes are lowkey useless. I see how people would struggle if they didn't have previous calculus knowledge. Great guy though, he'd stay back to answer ALL your questions and was generous with Halloween candy.
I ended up going to a different lecture because I wasted my time the first few weeks. He would give us random questions on the board (which we couldn't take pictures of) He would forget to post the slides and when I talked to my friend from another lecture we were learning something completely different. Don't recommend.
Leblanc made me understand concepts i knew before even less. He was so condescending to students in class, especially the female students. Would go out of his way to mock you even when you answered his questions correctly. Absolute menace to society.
I took this class 2 years ago. No prof ever made me feel as useless as I did when I took this course. Didn't let me use my calculator on final exam bc of a little button that even he didn't know how to use. Would regularly ignore me when I had my hand up in class. Would not recommend. Run away as fast as you can.
This course is a total mess. The lectures are boring (despite the professor) and isn't even about calculus. Never once have I taken the derivative of a function during this course. It is all about real life application. The exams are extremely hard. Even though they say that the course is not curved, it is, so that relieves some pressure.
I think Prof LeBlanc gives interesting challenging practice problems in lectures, but he assumes that you are coming to class completely comfortable with the concepts. So if you didn't take calculus in high school, I think a different professor may be more helpful. He also only teaches off of slides, which can be hard to follow.
I do not recommend this professor. He reads off slides, and the only good lecture was when he had to write with chalk b/c the board broke. Despite excelling in AP Calculus, I get 65% in this class. You'll need to learn everything outside of class. He also belittles girls' ideas, showing subtle bias. Not worth your time.
Prof LeBlanc is pretty good, the course isn't bad BUT the lecture are extremely boring!!!!! The whole lecture is basically example problems, he asks you to do them yourself and then he moves on before you can even ask a question... You don't technically HAVE to buy the text but definitely highly recommend you do as lectures don't teach anything.
Okay he is an extremely tough grader and the course content is difficult, but what do you expect it's calculus. I will say I found his lectures to be very helpful as long as you can stay attentive during them. It can get a bit boring at times but as long as you pay attention and take good notes it's not too bad, make sure you do the practice.
Somehow this man made me unlearn concepts I thought I knew. Horrible course notes because for some reason he picks the most unclear confusing examples for simple problems. I did better when I stopped attending his lectures. You're better off teaching yourself at home from ANOTHER profs course notes
