Great all around teacher. A young guy so he speaks with everyone pretty well and is really helpful when you need it and he really goes the extra mile in getting everything across. Math is nowhere near my best subject and I enjoyed taking this class with him.
He is a young guy and relates really well to the class. He goes to great lengths to describe the material and if you seek out help- he will help you. However, at times his teaching style can be confusing.
He's really fun and really young; he likes to make jokes and it makes math so much more interesting. However, he made lots of mistakes (he got pi wrong!) and was a little confusing at times. But there's one thing that makes him better than all the other teachers: he can draw a nearly perfect freehand circle on the whiteboard. Take him!
Vega is a young, pleasant instructor who basically knows his stuff. He shows promise (see other reviews) but has room for improvement. Lesson handouts have a significant amount of errors, both spelling and mathematical. The examples on them are very dude-centric. His appearance could stand to be a bit more professional. As is, he's not awful.
Hey, now dont hate. I liked him. Id'e reccomend him. Its like the first math class i havent wanted to fall asleep in. Yeah, he makes a few mistakes but who doesnt? Ide take him again and i did learn the material really well in his class.
He's a good professor, over all. He's very, very helpful if you ask questions. I have never seen him even slightly annoyed with people's questions. He's very laid back, as well, and very kind about giving grace on late assignments, etc. His teaching style can be a bit fragmented, though, but no one's perfect! Overall, I'd say he's a good choice!
I really like him as a teacher. He answers all questions and never makes any one feel silly for asking a question. He also gives extra help often. His homework assignments are manageable as are his quizzes and tests. I would take a math class from him again.
Vega is a very fun and helpful teacher to have. I've had him for math 65,95,111c. Sure he makes some (very little) mistakes, but he fixes them quickly & if you catch the mistake he gives u extra credit. He is always available to help, & he can be found and the student success center all the time he is free. I would take him in a heart beat. EASY A
Struggled in MTH 60 before, he broke it down much better when I retook it. Laid back, shows a human side. Got me addicted to shirt-woot...
Vega is an awesome teacher. He's really friendly and has a great sense of humor. Plus, I saw him at the movie theater so you know he must be cool! On top of all that, his name is Emiliano!
I really like him. Some people might find him to easy, and he has a tendency to fall slightly behind and have to blaze through certain things or skip them. This does bug me, but he's worth it because he explains things so well!! He helps you develop a really deep understanding of math that is so valuable. He is always there to help, and he's fun.
I took 65 with Vega before, and plan on continuing math with him. He is a really fun and upbeat guy, and only recently did he become a bit more strict. He always has some joke going on and really holds your attention well. I've never understood math so well before. Homework load isn't bad, and he grades pretty graciously. A really swell guy!
Vega is a good teacher, albeit his classroom was a little crazy. The homework and class material was difficult for me, but he was very available to help and wants his students to succeed. The most annoying thing about class was this girl who was clearly in love with him... I wouldn't be surprised if she stalked him this summer... watch out Vega!
Vega is a great math teacher. Nice guy, cares about the subject and his students, and grades more on how you did the math in your problems rather than nitpicking with grammar all day (like some profs do). I've hated math from birth and Vega made it interesting. Hopefully he's the same in MTH 111.
Sure, people like him but what's important is getting the material across. He's good for one type of student only. If that's not you, forget it! If you don't really need to learn it and want to have a good time, take him. If you really need a teacher, don't waste the money. He's disorganized and flighty, like he has no vision or direction.
Easily one of my favorite math teachers I've had. I took him for both 65 & 95. He's fun but still gets the point across. At least for me, it felt like he knew you had other classes so he wouldn't pile on work. I really enjoyed him.
If you have a learning disability but no paperwork, this is the Math instructor for you!!!
By far the best math teacher I've ever had. I've never been good at math, and need a teacher to dumb it down for me. He made math so easy that as a low C math student, I was able to get just 2 points below an A. Definitely recommend him.
Vega is awesome.
You can tell he's someone who really enjoys teaching and he is really into math. He's warm and funny and very patient. He's a little scattered and will make mistakes here and there but he doesn't lose his cool if you call him on it. Highly recommended.
Vega loves math, which kinda makes the class interesting. but he does not lecture because he cant 'sit still'. Vega is very young and does not have control over the class. He does not let you use calculators on the tests. you can do homework on line or on paper. He rants, and asks philosophical questions about math too much which leads to confusion
I hate math, but Vega makes it fun. He's very willing to work with students to get them to pass the class. He will accept late assignments. He's young and upbeat, and the lectures aren't boring (he will go off on tangents about how he learned to write with both hands so when he commits crimes and leaves notes, detectives can't identify him).
Awesome. Super cute in a math prof kinda way (I dig his style but I think I am older than him)! Extreme patience. Would not let a question go without making certain we understand. Excellent!
Absolutely liked him. He was pleasant to look at while being frustrated with math. Aside from that-he really had a lot of patience and tried to field all questions with clarity and as many examples as possible. He would never stop answering a question until you were confident that you understand. He was also available after class a lot. Take Vega!
Mr. Vega is gifted as a teacher. He is very respectful and attentive to all of his students and has a lot of patience. His unique way of teaching Algebra made me hopeful and encouraged that I can learn more difficult math as I proceed in college. He breaks problems down in a very understandable manner and I will take his classes in the future :)
Vega is the nicest math teacher at PCC, he gives clear instructions, and is extremely helpful. His tests and quizzes are exactly what he covers in class - no trickery. And - he is major eye candy. mmm.
Great teacher, smart, professional, very people friendly person, helpful, does not over do repetitive homework assignments, quizzes are tough but fair and not overly long or tricky, comes prepared with printed content/projector/computer info and sometimes provides free coffee!
Vega is the best math instructor I've ever taken a class from. He's very helpful, takes an interest in your learning process, and uses real world examples to help you understand abstract mathematical concepts. He's never condescending and has a very "what you see is what you get" approach". Highly recommended.
I highly recommend taking math with Vega any chance you get.. He is very passionate about the material and really goes out of his way to make sure everyone understands. He is always willing to meet with students outside of class as well. Where some math teachers lack energy and make the subject dull and boring, Vega brings it to life.
HE IS VERY HELPFUL!!!!!!!!!!!1 REALY CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS LEARNING THE SUBBJUCT, HE WOULD USE DIFFRENT WAYS TO LEARN THE SUBJECT. BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Highly recommend. He lectures precisely on key materials that will show up on an exam. He explains with clarity and does ample examples and in-class problems to give students enough practice to grasp and master subjects. He is well versed in Stats and seems to have a geniune interest in it, which lends to a great class environment.
I took two classes with Vega and can't recommend him enough. Foxiness aside, he's a genuinely good teacher who not only enjoys his subject, but teaching in general. He won't make things too easy on you and you will get the grade that you earn, but Vega does a lot to make himself available for extra help. Makes class something to look forward to.
Professional yet easy to talk too. Tends to be a little picky on grading, but nothing to worry about. I would highly recommened. 10/10
Good instructor, wish he would have taught 244 this term.
Could not recommend him more. I took him for Calc I this term and am genuinely disappointed that he won't be teaching Calc II. He doesn't give too much textbook work, and the homework he does give is very easy if you've been paying attention. Attendance is mandatory because he teaches a lot per class, but he evens it out with independent work time.
Vega is passionate about math and most of the time makes it fun. The material was difficult and the class was too fast paced, but that wasn't his fault. He did his best to make sure we were getting it. Some of his questions are worded confusingly, but the tests weren't really hard if you did the take homes and homework.
He is a great teacher who really is interested in not only his subject, but helping people learn. The tests are not surprises at all and the work load is minimal for a calculus class.
Vega is an exceptional instructor. His love of math and energy is contagious.
Extremely attractive. Wait, oh, and a very good teacher.
I really wished he Would teach Calc 2 because he not only succeeded in teaching me Calc 1, but he did so and made it fun, I would recommend Vega to any student taking.... math... so pretty much everybody :)
worth while, Vega is the man
He tries too hard to be cool and liked. I don't want my teacher to be my pal. I want him to teach, which he doesn't do very well. He makes you do random projects and study for them that have nothing to do with tests or quizzes. Do not recommend.
He was a very good teacher that was super helpful. He was always available when you needed to come in and get help. And oh, he was really good looking and funny. So that's a plus.
The material can be difficult yeah, but what's great about Mr. Vega is that if you actually take the time to ask him questions, come to his office hours, and show him that you care about your grade he will be kind enough to take that into consideration and will strive to help you do your best. Very patient, approachable and all around nice guy.
Vega is a great teacher. The material is easy to understand and learn. The homework and tests are easy as well. Vega only grades about 3 questions from each chapter. He is a very relaxed teacher. Vega deserves his chili pepper!
Awesome professor!! Very cool guy, and great teacher. I highly recommend him.
He seemed to really enjoy the subject and had a lot of fun teaching it. He was clear and very helpful to anyone having trouble.
He is very helpful and somewhat easy to understand. The material can be hard to explain and I think he does a great job at trying to break it down for us. He is fair, so if you put in the effort you will get a good grade. Also, his pre-test reviews are basically the test, so study them!!
Fantastic teacher, he explains things thoroughly and has a great sense of humor. Made taking statistics not nearly as scary as everyone made it sound, I'm planning on taking stats 2 with him since he makes it so easy to understand. I really hate math but he makes it okay! Plus him looking like Ben from Parks and Rec (gorgeous) doesn't hurt either!
Best math teacher I have ever had. Extremely helpful and committed to helping students understand the concepts he is teaching. I hate math, but Vega loves math in a way that makes you want to love it too. Highly, highly recommend taking his class. I cannot praise his teaching enough.
Vega is absolutely the best math teacher. He explains the material really well and makes it easy to understand. Highly recommend!!!
Vega is the best! Group quizzes, minimal homework, fair tests.
Vega is a fantastic teacher. I took his Math 105 class without any idea of what the class would go over. The best I can explain it is, deit statistics. He made the class fun and we were allowed moved at our own pace. There was a lot of group work which I liked. I would absolutely recommond Vega to anyone.
Absolutely incredible teacher. And probably the hottest man in Portland. Vega, I hope you see this. You are FINE.
Amazing teacher, defiantly knows what to teach and how to teach in a easy way that everyone could understand it.For every questions he takes his time and answers in a way that even fool person will get the learning object.
I took Vega last term for the first course of Stats. He is by far my favorite "math" teacher. He is responds quickly to e-mail and appreciates when students ask questions. Everything is graded fairly although picky at times. It's unfortunate I won't need any more math classes. If Vega were a pepper he would be a Trinidad Moruga Scorpion.
Awful, an unpleasant experience from first day forward. Vega is not a good teacher and almost seems to try and make you feel bad for being in his class. Terrible explanations and mannerisms. Avoid at all costs, look for another teacher. Don't waste your time and money on this non-serious "teacher".
Looking for a great stats teacher? This guy is one of them. He is extremely helpful in answering any of your questions. His teaching style is clear and gives you in class time to practice solving problems. Fair amount of take home homework and 3 tests in this class. You are allowed one notecard per test. Just sign up for his class already.
I found Vega's teaching bad and not professional. He was late to class, unprepared, condescending and was arrogant to students. Lectures were unfocused, and he loses control of the class. Explanations were unclear, his listening skills worse. Made math mistakes often on the board. Look elsewhere.
Excellent math instructor. Take him, if you try you'll do well. Perfect amount of homework assigned, just enough to get the material and solidify your understanding. Fair, funny, solid, etc. Awful accent though, I think he's from Bangladesh. Maybe not....
He's the best math teacher I've ever had. Clear, helpful. If you do the homeworks, and work on your problems, you won't have any difficulties on tests. You can ask for help any time you want. Highly recommended!!!
I really love his teaching style! Very laid back, doesn't bombard you with a ton of homework. Quizzes are group-style. Explains things much more clearly than learning out of the book. Worksheets are organized and convey the material well. Take him! Now taking him for MTH 243 and just as happy!
Professor Vega is a skilled math teacher. He explains his concepts well and will give you as much partial credit on tests as you deserve. He will try and keep class interesting by using modern day examples for class problems. If you can make it into his class, take him!
He is the worst math teacher I ever had. Very confusing, lots of homework and reading, hard grader.
EXCELLENT, laid-back professor; he is clearly passionate about Stats(and the Timbers!) he uses real life examples and in-class simulation/games successfully. Do the reading/HMWK, study, and you should be fine--he goes out of his way to make sure everyone understands. D2L page could be more organized. His Sexy-European-hipster-look? yes please :)
sorry but he actually sucks. i have never had a more confusing teacher in my life. i am really good at math and i love it but with him he makes it the hardest thing in the world by teaching it in weird and confusing ways. pretty much he sucks and i regret taking his class
His class was great, he was super helpful and always willing to back up if you weren't getting something. He made a potentially boring class actually interesting and interactive. If you have to take stats, don't take it from anyone else but this guy!!!
I'm really confused by the bad ratings, he was literally the best math teacher I've ever had. You don't even have to work that hard to get it because he makes it so simple. Maybe if you never do any homework, never come to class, and pay no attention you'll get a crap grade, otherwise its really easy and hes a really nice and helpful teacher.
If you get nervous during tests, this is the teacher for you. He brings coffee in on test days and encourages the class to bring in snacks to go with it. Donuts, cookies, you name it. And the first question on every test is always something like 'What is it that makes you feel relaxed?'
Vega is great. Super clear, super helpful. Homework is perfectly appropriate. Texts cover material discussed and practiced in class. Try, and you will succeed!
Vega is the man! Always available for help, clear teacher and just an all around cool dude.
He's a great math teacher and probably the coolest hipster I've met
Very inconsistent in teaching styles, went from a great teacher one term to absolutely horrible the next. I don't know what happened but I regret taking this class he went from helpful to picking favorites where only a few students in this class got help. No work throughout the term to get feedback and no review for exams! Inconsistent.....
I love this class. He is so great, easy and clearly to understand the lesson. I recommend who want to take Math 243 or 244, you guys should to take this class, i is awesome.
TAKE THIS WITH VEGA ASAP!!!
Vega was a great teacher. He scans all his notes into D2L, which served as great study guides. He reminds you every week of when his office hours are, encourages you to email with questions. He's humble and has a dry wit that I found amusing. If you study and do your work, you'll ace his class. Stats didn't come easy to me but I still got an A!
Best math teacher ever. If only all teachers could teach like Vega. He's nice, cares about his students, takes time for questions, explanations. Makes me feel like a math wizz in class which makes me overly confident and I don't study like I should. If you put in the time you'll get an A. One presentation per term which prepare you for tests.
I absolutely loved Vega! Such a great teacher, very helpful, and made the work very easy to understand. If I could take him for all my math classes I would. He appreciates feedback because he wants to be a fantastic teacher which I respect him for. So disappointed he isn't at sylvania campus anymore :(
(O: Overall I thought Vega was pretty good. He was pretty clear about what he wanted and expects in his class, is funny, considerate, and it is pretty obvious he knows what he is talking about. The only issue I had was he wasn't around enough it seemed to help out when needed. Overall though pretty good :O)
Ugh! Emiliano is the best! He's really kind and funny and has more availability than any other teacher I've had. He was in the tutoring center right after class each day and even had a huge amount of time on Fridays where you could come in and get some help. From your own teacher! So rad! He is also very considerate and respectful.
Vega is one of the most concise, and easily accessible instructors I've had the privilege of having thus far. He relates well to students, and conveys even the most arduous of topics with absolute clarity, and casual aplomb. Be forewarned, though, Vega is a tough grader. One mistake can cost you dearly. However, the feedback given is priceless!
Vega is a fantastic math teacher! Math can be a difficult subject but he goes out of his way to make sure you are succeeding if you are trying and putting in the time. I appreciated his lecture style and his teaching method. I would recommend in a heart beat to anyone that has a desire to succeed in math.
Emiliano is the best math teacher I have had. He is very helpful and is there to make sure you succeed. He has a lot of availability outside of class to help. I took 58 and 98 with him, and now understand some concepts I never could grasp in high school. The courses arent easy per-sey but are set up great and relate math consistently to real life.
Vega is honestly the best math teacher I've ever had. He's kind, engaging, and clearly knows what he's talking about. He has extensive office hours and is always happy to meet up. His enthusiasm is contagious; the class can be challenging, but it's not boring. Try to get into one of the ALEKS sections: no textbook, good homework software.
Really nice guy & a dedicated teacher. Makes it fun. don't pass up a chance to take a class with this guy.
I thought I was terrible at calculus and he managed to teach in a way that I fully grasped every concept and got an A. Gives lectures in a fun, incredibly detailed and diverse way. Always willing to help you one on one, especially during labs. Tests are exactly the same as every assignment and homework problem.
I hate his shoes bit besides that he's one of the best math teachers I've had.
Emiliano is a very amazing professor. His passion for math rubs off on his students and he always brings optimism to the classroom. I like how he is willing to work with his students and accommodate individual learning styles. I really appreciated his enthusiasm; it kept me inspired thorough out the term.
I never touched my textbook all term, you pretty much just work on the lab. Vega gives amazingly clear lectures with good examples that help you understand the homework and prepares you well for the exam.
I went back and forth, but in the end I gave him a 5/5. For students who need constant reassurance and open-ending learning environments, this is the guy. Emiliano is an attentive and enthusiastic teacher. Reminds me of the best high school instructors. Lots of labs and group work. Extremely available, loves his work. Intuitive thinker and humble.
Prof Vega is organized and can articulate the material clearly. His lectures/labs are extremely productive and will almost get you to the finish line. Just spend a few hours outside of class to fill in the gaps of your understanding and retain information. to get a satisfactory grade. He is very friendly too which is always a good thing.
Professor Vega is one amazing professor! He is wicked brilliant, and it shows. Not only does he know math, but he knows how to break it down to teach it to all levels in one large classroom. I am taking more math classes than needed for my degree path, just because me made it that easy and fun. AMAZING. Don't miss out on the best math class at PCC!
Professor Vega was an excellent statistics 244 instructor. He knows statistics and he made this class fun, and taught us the importance of the interpretation of the data, and not just the formulas, but how to understand the results. This was very helpful for me. He is inspirational because he fights for affordable education! He is a real gem!!
Professor Vega used multiple teaching tools and free resources to teach the concepts. Vega is invested in his students learning. If you show up to class, complete all the homework, and participate you should do well in the class! I did not have a strong math/statistics background before this class and did well and learned a lot.
Vega is a fantastic teacher! He makes statistics accessible by providing relevant, practical examples and lots of different activities for learning--worksheets, board work, lectures, videos, a group project, homework, etc. Vega is also very caring and advocates for his students! You will enjoy the class and learn a lot!
After struggling in math, Vega made a very positive impact. He explained the material in as many ways as necessary for students to understand, and was always available outside of class. He has an infectious enthusiasm for teaching and I looked forward to going to has class.
You cant spell Emiliano without NO! That being said, say YES to Emiliano. Emilianyes. What can be said about him that hasnt been said about George Wallace? Emiliano is available to students, clearly wants them to understand the material, and I guess he cares, I guess. I don't know. Whatever. Take him! I don't know if he likes rush or not.
Was nice about letting me make up a few assignments.
Mr. Vega is a good instructor and I recommend him for anyone who wants to take statistics.
Disappointed. I've had about 10 or more math instructors @ PCC and I thought Vega would provide solid foundation in Stats. I learned otherwise, avoided my questions and on exam clarification he got defensive. I can't ask questions to things which I don't understand and feel like it's a debate. Here's an equation for him Teacher clarity, Vega ego
One of the Best Calculus teachers. i took him for calc 2. Wish he would teach higher math.
Vega made sense of math which isn't my best subject. he made class enjoyable, was flexible and always willing to help you out if you asked. He also lets you fix problems on your homework for a better grade. I cannot recommend him enough!
I would strongly recommend because I feel that any level of student can succeed in this class because you are given the tools, the patience, the help and the compassion to succeed, all you have to do as a student is put in the work. Even during a pandemic when we suddenly had to all switch to remote learning, he really went above and beyond!
He is super flexible, clear, concise, and gives many opportunities to earn points and improve your grade. He's great as explaining confusing and difficult concepts.
Vega is an amazing professor. Calc will always be hard but he makes it easy. Because of COVID, he understood people had other things going on and lectures were optional. As long as you watched his videos and did the webworks you get an A in the class. He actually cares about his students and answers literally any questions you could ask. 100/10
I absolutely loved this class, and highly recommend due to Vega's clear teaching style. The lectures videos outside of class are not too long, and super understandable. The long class was made bearable by the divided structure of a worksheet and review of lecture videos, and then work in breakout rooms. Emiliano is so willing to help his students!
If you don't have time to show up to online class, but you still can get an A+ just by watching record and reading his free textbook, take this class. He gives very few homework, but you can understand all of the lecture by finishing them. His exams are also very easy, if you done all of the homework, you definitely get an A+ in exams.
This is your sign to register for Vega. He is amazing.
I took his class in fall 2020 but I just found rmp this month. He is a great professor and he made the class fun. He made my first couple of online class easy and did not complicated them like otherprofessors I had this term.
It had been 9-10 years since I had taken math and Emiliano was my first math teacher. He's great. Interactive, engaging and he really cares. If you ask him a question, he will give you a thoughtful answer. If you're struggling with a concept, he'll make time for you. In my opinion, he's one of the best math teachers at PCC.
Professor Vega is by far the best math teacher I've had. Super kind and respectful, and with make a huge effort to work with you and make sure everyone understands the topic at hand. Not too much homework, and is VERY easy to access outside class. I highly recommend taking classes from him!!!
I really enjoyed this class and the professor. Emiliano is very reasonable and cares about his students doing well. He provides a variety of environments to learn in so that everyone can be successful.
Although his teaching style itself didn't match my learning style, I was able to make it through the class. Vega is a professor that pushes toward working through math together, so most assignments were open notes/resources, including classmates. The class consists of labs, quizzes, two midterms, one final, and homework on Webwork.
I checked RMP before signing up for Vega's class and saw a review that said something like "this is your sign, take Vega." I did, and I am so glad I did. Now this is YOUR sign, take Vega!! Emiliano is the best math teacher I have ever had.
Emiliano is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I'd previously taken Calculus I at my high school and struggled to grasp the concepts. Emiliano teaches in such a way that Calculus comes easy to me. He truly cares about his students and makes me love math!
Hands down the best Statistics Professor at PCC in all of the schools history. I hate math and he made me actually enjoy it. So relaxed, will reach out to make sure you are good without asking and so much more. Fantastic teacher
I cannot stress this enough: Vega is HANDS-DOWN the best professor I've ever had. For any subject. He takes it by a landslide. He knows the perfect length of lecture, lets us split into lab groups to work with our peers, and his assistant David was incredible as well. He's very understanding and will work with you on anything. Pick him, trust me.
Mr. Vega was an amazing teacher. He was super helpful when it came to giving feedback on something you need help with. He was also super understanding if you needed a little extra time to turn something in. We had an optional final exam that we could take if we wanted extra credit for our grade. Would definitely take him again.
Vega is a good teacher. If you are nervous about STATS take it with Vega. very VERY chill class. Only complaint was more just about the online HW being a little flawed/buggy, which isn't his fault, just the only thing I had frustration with in this class, but Vega never marked down HW for impossible to get right/bugged questions.
Super helpful. As someone who has had a hard time with math in the past, his method of teaching is different than anybody I've worked with and it changed the way I viewed math in a positive way.
Echoing what everyone else has said about Emiliano Vega: highly recommend, especially if you don't consider yourself a "math person" -- he teaches this stuff so well. As long as you come to class and pay attention, you'll do well. He uses technology to solve every problem, so you just have to learn the tools (mostly Geogebra). Take his class!!!
Emiliano is a great math professor who makes Calculus understandable. His classes are engaging, and he genuinely cares about helping students succeed. unstuck AI is a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Vega is a great teacher explains things very well. He makes his class a very fun and collaborative environment. By far the best math teacher I've ever had. The GOAT.
Vega's MTH252 was the best class I've taken. His teaching style was engaging, and homework was manageable. He genuinely cares about his students, and makes the effort to help them achieve their goals. Each class starts with a warm-up, then a chunk of lecture with a break in the middle, and the last hour is dedicated to group lab time. Loved it!
