Dr. Falc's tests are challenging, but you learn a lot. Be prepared to participate a lot in her classes. She's really nice.

very fun and enjoyable class. she uses lots of examples and exercises to help you learn

Dr. Emilie is super nice, but almost too nice. Don't feel like I learned much from her class. It should almost be less credits and meet less often for the amount of stuff there is to learn. I guess that's not really Emilie's fault though.
she has a short fuse and has her favorites
She's the devil - avoid her at all costs. She has favorites, and if you're not one of them, too bad for you. If you think you're one of them, you're not. She's biased, and unless you are a feminist, be prepared to have this class ruin your GPA.
I didn't find the way she taught to be helpful with the class at all.
Sucks
HUGE feminist! Be careful what you say. Tests are difficult and the material is practically moot. She doesn't put out review until day before test (lectures are pointless, have nothing to do with test.)

The biggest self-centered, biased, feminist, world hating professor I have ever met. She is not helpful, grades based on her own personal opinion of you. If she doesn't like you, or your topic, you are screwed. Don't take her - we need to get her fired!
She seems like a really easy teacher, but don't be fooled. The tests are not very hard. The biggest problem is her grading of speeches. It is almost like a lottery to figure out who will get an A on their speech.
I had her two years ago and yet I still remember how bad it was. It was her first year and she didn't really help us on anything. Her tests were for human dictionaries..not students! The speeches we did have to do were reasonable.
Is Not Diverse
a bit on the far side of the spectrum when it comes to minority rights...easy exams, grades speeches fairly, butted heads a bit, but on the whole a nice woman.
She is a very good teacher.
Feminist to the core! A little floozy and not very articulate...which is bad considering she's supposed to be a Communication Studies professor. Exams are ok but her classes are just boring except for the videos.
She always is there for you, and is very helpful when you ask questions
Total communist. You're supposed to teach speech, not run for office!! She was totally unreasonable with her grading of speeches. You could give a speech and receive praise from your class but she would rip you apart.
"feminism is for everyone" was a required text...that says a lot. she was very picky when it came to speeches. I didn't like her a whole lot. She picks favorites. I would avoid her if you can
She is a horrible teacher, doesnt explain things at all. Also is a feminist and isnt interested in your opinion, only she can be right. I hate her and she is dumb.
Dr. Falc is an amazing teacher. She cares about her students opinions and is VERY diverse. She knows what she is talking about and makes the class into more than just a learning experiance, she relates subject matter to real life and is very intelligent. She is a great teacher I suggest taking her!
I really enjoy this teacher. I think she brings different perspectives and diversity to the class. She is a very smart person and also very helpful--you just have to talk to her.
I really like Dr. Emilie. She's a great teacher who can be tough and "strict" but is also very fair and helpful. She is always willing to help you out as long as you communicate with her. She is a very intelligent person who knows what she is talking about.
Not that hard really, just opionated. Kinda liked her, but the book "Feminism is for Everbody" is the worst book in the entire world, like a editor had never even read the book prior to publishing. Other then that, tests are easy if you study for like an hour, and be prepared with yoru speeches.

I think that you are a good teacher, you make class fun.
Great professor, knows what she is teaching. Gives new perspectives on many topics and very helpful! Required readings are great. Be open minded and class will be fun. Remember, this is college!
yeah the class is a cakewalk. I didn't agree with her opinions at all but she still liked me cuz I put forth effort ans was funny. she doesn't teach the material, she just assumes you will read the book.... not a good assumption... quizes are online and she's a nice lady... take the class
very good professor. Knows what she is teaching. opinionated but open minded. Very helpful. Gives new perpectives on topics. Likes class disscusion. (remember, your in college)
She is really nice & she shares a lot of her stories adding a personal touch to the class. Her quizzes & tests are pretty easy as they come right out from the textbk! She can be a bit strict on the speeches tho but it certainly helps if you approach her to ask for tips!
Dr. Emilie is wonderful. I was worried about taking a feminist theory class because I have no interest in the subject but so far I've really enjoyed it. If you need a critical analysis credit go for it! It's a great course...and the professor is super too.
This class is really easy. Make sure you have all of your outlines, etc done before they're due. A lot of feminist bs towards the end but overall a good class.
Very nice prof! Very easy. Tests are simple - multiple choice straight from the book. Other than speeches and a few tests, there's not much to the class. She does entertain us with personal stories and has regular conversations with us at the beginning of class. Highly recommended professor!
She's a really nice prof. The class isn't too hard, as long as you come to most of the classes, take notes, and participate. There are only a couple speeches and she grades fairly. Easy A or B if you work hard.
She's the best speech teacher ever! She's really friendly and shes even a little funny. You do about 5 speeches total. If you're nervous about taking a speech class, take her! She creates a stress free environment and gives tips on how to calm your nerves. You get to pick your own topics and the tests are really easy if you read the chapters.
I always hated public speaking, but I somewhat enjoyed this class because she made it fun and interesting so I wasn't as nervous to give a speech as I usually am. She's super nice and is very clear about what she wants you to do. You should definitely take her class if you get the chance.
This class isn't bad, but be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the material from the tests. The speech topics are boring, but she lets you choose specifically what you want to talk about. Gives you only a couple of days to write your speeches, so be prepared to work hard a couple days of the semester.
Easy! Tests are only 25 points a piece and all right from the textbook. She takes attendance daily, so go to class. Easy grader, just be really specific on outlines and be prepared! No other homework, but you only get a few days to write a speech, so be ready to at least work hard for a day or two here and there, but overall it's an easy A.
She's awful!! DON'T take her!!! she starts off all nice and stuff then after the first speech bam shes not! she gave me a bad grade on my first speech cuz she didnt like my topic.. WHEN SHE OKAYED IT! the tests arent bad 3 tests 25 points but she doesn't want to help, I went to ask her a question and she looked at me like I was stupid! dont take he
Don't take her. i had her for Gender and Culture. Huge tree huger and seems to have something against men. The class is easy, but she's not enjoyable. I had it only once a week for an hour and i always dreaded it.
I am writing my Faculty Course Evaluation for Dr. Emilie Falc's class Persuasive Communication CMST 389. As a student with a disability I found Dr. Falc a very difficult professor to have. I believe Dr. Falc is a very good person, I just think she needs to have more sensitivity and training when dealing with individuals with disabilities. My reason
I heard she was an easy grader, so out of the 20 profs that teach speech at WSU, I chose her. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone, NOT an easy grader, and she always seems uncomfortable and awkward in front of the class.
As long as you do the assignments correctly with some thought you will get an A. Quizzes online, Test are almost completely vocab from the book and the rest are true false. If you understand the vocabulary in the book the tests will be a breeze.A little inconsistent with grading speaches but none ever hurt my grade. She is hazking on her computer w
She is a nice person, but her 2 tests are very hard and she is so vague as to what is on the test; it's near impossible to do well. The class average for our 500 point final was 60%. This class was more of a history class than a comm class. I say skip this prof.
Ok professor. There are only 4 speeches and topics she lets you choose are pretty easy and fun. However, her grading is very harsh and inconsistant and sometimes I thought she graded unfairly, especially if she didn't like the topic you chose. Tests are easy, just vocab from book. Offers extra credit. I don't think I'd take a class from her again
terrible terrible terrible no one likes her she is just mean and annoying doesnt care about her students this may sound made up but actually happened believe it or not... SHE YELLED AT A STUDENT FOR SMILING DURING CLASS. oh and she makes u feel like ur in highschool again by taking away your cell phone till the end of class if she sees it out
This professor is TERRIBLE!!! No joke, she will not allow computers in this class, even to take notes. If you get caught sleeping or looking at your phone, she will humiliate you! If you are looking into this class for a general, steer clear! This class was a waste of my time and I will never use this information again in my life.
This prof. is very unclear in her expectations regarding assignments. She is also very unhelpful when asked or emailed questions regarding assignments. Consider yourself lucky if she responds. Many in the class felt similar to this. She was also very unprofessional in not responding at the end of the semester to questions regarding grades.
Her way or the highway. Got very off schedule.
Class is not challenging at all, but heaven help you if you miss a day or get caught not paying attention. If she does not like you she will be rude and unprofessional towards you and actively single you out. I did not pay attention in lecture and still got an "A" because she teaches straight out of the text.
She was really monotone, not what I expected from a speech teacher.
Prof. Falc started the semester kind and helpful, but the minute you make a mistake all hell breaks loose. She is very passive agressive and will stoop to humiliating students to make a point. Getting a good grade is easy, but tolerating this class is not.
Watched videos almost the whole time then when it came time for test, the questions had nothing to do with what we had learned or talked about. Doesn't know how to teach so she shows youtube videos at lease once a day. Papers are hard, tests are hard, and has an incredibly monotoned voice that is hard to pay attention to.
Okay class. Grades homework and speeches fairly easy if you follow the outlines, formats that are in the book which is what I did and got an A on every speech. Tests are difficult. Questions comes mostly out of the book.
Class was easy if you follow the outline. I dreaded this class every time. If you want to learn about feminist/political beliefs rather than rhetoric, by all means take her. I asked her for help once, and she said to go work on it myself or ask a friend. Good luck if you have her.
Horrible Horrible Horrible. She's impossible to please when it comes to papers and presentations. She holds all of her students up to outrageously high standards for a 200 level class. Not to mention if you miss class too much she'll bring your grade down almost a full letter. If you are looking to learn anything, do NOT take this professor
She was not clear with any of her expectations. She didn't teach anything. I often wondered why we were doing certain things in class. I missed two times with good excuses and she gave me a D for attendance. Tests, presentations and papers were graded harshly with no feedback. She's a very subjective grader.
I took Gender Communications with her and it was super easy. She lets you make your own test (there are only two) and will hand out the questions that will appear on the test at least a week before. The class is boring, but attendance is mandatory. You just have to write a one page paper every week reflecting on the chapter (grades easy).
Emilie Falc is the most unprofessional professor I have had throughout my 3 years of college. She is rude, goes out of her way to make you feel stupid - publicly and personally. She sends personal emails and is very immature in all matters. She is judgmental and GOD HELP you if you miss a single day of class. This professor should be fired.
She isn't the best teacher I had and I don't think I would take another course with her. We have four speeches in the course and I felt like she has been grading them all differently. There were three tests that weren't too hard, mainly vocab and concepts. She isn't bad at teaching, she just isn't very enjoyable.
Falc is by far the worst teacher i have had. She grades extreply harsh. She started the year fine but after the first month she was just horrible, you never have any idea what she wants. As your presenting one speech the next one is already due and its basicaly her way or the highway. if you can avoid her at all costs.
At the beginning of the course, I did not like the class or the teacher. We just read the book and took stupid quizzes. However, as the speeches began, my classmates as well as Dr. Falc loosened up and it became much more enjoyable. If you are comfortable talking in front of people, the grade shouldn't be difficult to get.
She makes a single speech worth 1000 points and a self critique worth 100 points. It's impossible to get 100% on a speech because she grades very hard. You have to explain things like you're talking to a first grader for her to understand it completely. She's a hypocrite when it comes to public speaking. I would NOT recommend. She's not a good prof
Emilie is the worst teacher EVER. Does not teach fairly and isn't clear on directions. She grades way too hard, making people more afraid of public speaking. Do not take her class..
I took 192 because I figured the professor was going to teach more about the skills of public speaking, that did not happen. She grades so harsh, and she never tells you what to improve, and she doesn't give clear assignments. Very tough grader. Don't take.
Professor Falc gives 2 tests-a midterm and a cumulative final. Both are from the textbook that she never mentions during lecture. Get the eBook so you can go online and READ THE CHAPTER OUTLINES instead of reading the book that gives tons of unnecessary examples. Follow the rubrics for speeches and you'll be golden. 3 speeches, 1 group presentation
Falc is okay, but all you need to do it know that vocab. It is not hard and neither are the speeches. Just take some time to do things and pretend to care about the environment and she will love you!
Despite other reviews, I enjoyed CMST 289 with Dr. Falc. She does a great job at relating our lecture material to real life by using current events to further explain the topics she covers. Yes she is a tough grader, but she clearly outlines her expectations on the first day so you'll have to work for the grade you want. That's college.
Despite other reviews, I enjoyed professor Falc. She made it clear what she wanted for each speech. I have a high A even though I had speech anxiety. There are other points for each chapter in the book. Attendance is required. I would recommend this to anyone.
She's very boring. I had CMST 120 with her and a lot of what she teaches in Speech Communication is common sense but she lectures like we don't anything. I don't recommend her.
Dr. Falc is not the best professor. She rolls her eyes at you when asking a question, and doesn't seem to want you to succeed. She acts like her students know nothing, and takes forever explaining basis concepts. She never gives you a full answer, and seems to grade everything differently. Pick a different Professor if you can...
A professor who is teaching about social media should know something about it. Quizzes and tests are trying to trick not educate. She will take 5 points off of a paper for a missing comma. One of the most arrogant and pompous professors.
I would avoid this professor at all costs. I was required to take a CMST class for graduation, I had two options, safe to say I chose the wrong one. I later learned from other com studies students that this professor is far from the best in the department. Opinions are welcome in class discussion, as long as they align with everyone else.
Dr. Falc bases her lectures and tests on the book, so that is essential to passing. The speeches are not hard, and if you put the time into them and understand what is expected for each one, you'll be fine. Make sure to ask her questions if you are unsure... she can be confusing at times with her expectations and grading.
She is an ultra tough grader.
shes horribly rude and doesn't care about her students and there grades. if you don't agree with what she says she gets mad and ignores you. I went to her office hours to get help and she told me to drop her class if i didn't understand what was going on, didn't try and help me. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
I would not recommend Dr. Falc at all. She is a communications prof. but honestly should be teaching gender studies. She is incredibly opinionated and if you don't agree with her your grade will most likely suffer so its best to keep your mouth shut. Unhelpful, rude, and unkind to students she doesn't always agree with. Avoid if possible.
I have never met a communications professor so bad at communicating. Very awkward. I went to this class to learn how to give speeches and communicate effectively, and 3 speeches later I still do not know how she wants us to give a speech, as the ONLY info on actually delivering a speech she gave us was a paragraph in the syllabus. Infuriating.
I have never had a professor more scatter brained or dis-organized, why this class is required as a comm studies major i have no idea because i didn't learn one piece of information to inform me on how people who identify as different genders communicate or any theories, all youll do is watch videos and hear her read tumblr posts.
She is the only professor at Winona State University that I have not liked. She is rude, unapproachable, an extremely tough grader, and will punish you if she sees a reason to not like you and it will show on your grade. She is awkward and rarely goes through anything that is on the test. Would avoid her at all costs. I would never take her again.
Not a huge fan of this professor. She was very unclear about guidelines and what she was expecting from her students with outlines and speech topics. Classes are mandatory and you are expected to read the book and take notes. You are graded on speeches, outlines, critiques and there's a midterm and final test. Overall not terrible.
Dr. Falc is not as bad as most of the reviews say. She is a little awkward, but she grades easily as long as you put in the work and practice for speeches. There were two exams, all on vocab. Not a bad class if you put in the work.
Extremely difficult course if you do not agree with her opinions. Sometimes speaks to students unkindly or rudely. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I have no idea why this class is required for Comm studies, with this professor we learn nothing to help us with the major/minor. Only take if this if it is your only option. Do NOT take for an easy gen ed class, you'll go crazy listening to her opinion lectures. You learn nothing, test are hard.
NEVER take Dr. Falc. She uses 20+ year old information, is unclear about expectations, and Lowers grades if you do not share the same values as her. All lectures are opinion based. Going to class is useless but mandatory. At no point in this class will you learn anything relating to communications based on gender expression.
Definitely grades you based off of your opinions. Uses dated information and lecture heavy. Sometimes crosses the line with what she tells students. Can come across rude but it very passionate about what she teaches.
Falc is very kind and willing to work with students. She is very good at helping when needed. There are 4 total speeches given and none of them are difficult. As long as you do the homework you will pass with no problems. She also is good at talking to student and explaining when things are unclear.
If you get a chance to take her class, do it! She is very detailed about what expectations she has for assignments and overall the class is very informative. Highly recommend!
Teacher has favorites, if she doesn't like you good luck getting more than a 75% on a speech. would not take a gain.
Purposely didnt wear a seatbelt driving to her class. She shares her political views and if you dont share the same she will grade you bad. I recommend not taking this class, didnt learn a single thing and Falc doesnt even know how to communicate properly. She does not care about her students or their grades. DO NOT RECCOMEND
Falc is the worst professor I have ever had. She cannot communicate to save her life and should NOT be a speech professor. She's extremely liberal and if you don't share the same views you will get D's on speeches. I'm a straight A student and got D's on every speech. She is also extremely rude. DON'T TAKE!!
Terrible! I wish I would've dropped after the first day. She doesn't teach you anything and then tests you on material she says she taught but never did. If she doesn't like you, you will fail. Short answer exams and if you have the correct answer but she doesn't agree it will be marked incorrect. DO NOT TAKE HER! She is the worst professor.
She has the most confusing and round about ways of explaining things. I didnt even realize she was trying to teaching us what was in the book until the night before my final exam. All she did was talk about how much she hates Donald Trump, and now I might fail this class. I highly suggest you try and get another professor.
Dr. Falc was an easy teacher to have for my first 300 level class. To be honest, she didn't teach me anything. We basically did group projects and lectures with no tests the entire semester. In her lectures, she shoves her political views in your face, so beware of that. Overall, wouldn't take the class unless you have to.
She can not communicate and you have to look for assignments because she wont tell you. Very rude and only likes certain students. The only good part was you did not have to have camera on and a huge part of grade is attendance. Do not take.
She could've carried the class a bit more, most classes were awkward and you can tell that no one wanted to be there. She seems to give more slack towards students who don't do their work compared to the ones that do. She isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. Spent zero time teaching and all the time telling us how bad of a person Donald Trump is. On top of this, I took this class to learn about communications in Social Media, and I have learned nothing about the matter. I would not recommend having her even if it is the last possible option.
Emilie Falc is THE worst professor I've ever had. If you can avoid taking any classes with her, I recommend avoiding her. A couple of recommendations to pass the class -Show up to every class -Bring something else to do for when she goes on her rambles. -Start assignments when she gives them to you.
I was surprised to see such bad ratings! Dr. Falc is very understanding, attendance large portion of grade, mini tests, projects, paper, nothing too unreasonable, I learned a lot and did not have much to do outside of class, would def take again!!!
Awful teacher. Attendance is mandatory, she spends 90% of the time finding her lesson, remembering what she is saying, and giggling. Bring something else to do while in class because you won't be doing anything. She has awful communication and emailed our class our entire outline instead of telling us in class. If you wanna waste time and money go!
This was my hardest class. Not because of the content but because of how terrible the teaching is. We were ACTUALLY taught a max of 2 times the whole semester. Professor Falc goes on random tangents about irrelevant things unrelated to communication. I recommend finding a new Professor if you hope to learn anything valuable.
awful. do NOT take her class.
Professor Falc is not terrible, but definitely far from good. Her communication skills are surprisingly, not so good for a communications professor. Online textbook is heavily used & done independently but due dates were not always clear. Spends lectures rambling and laughing at her own jokes- the textbook taught me better. IMO, not worth it.
Very political rambles for 99% of her lectures you'll never learn but attendance is mandatory. Gave us an online book that taught us everything but was graded on completion so how much was it effective? Didn't tell us what was on the final until 2 days before the final.
She made attendance mandatory but it was a complete waste of time because nothing in her classes were on any of the homework or final, but if you miss more than three days you get docked points.
This professor wasted class time by having us do the homework assignments in class or do the exact assignment in class the day after it was due. Tuesdays were usually spent watching the video she assigned for homework that night with no extra commentary. Does not communicate changes until late.
nice lady, but awful course. Learned absolutely nothing useful. felt very focused and critical towards men and wasn't structured well at all and often times very off course topic. graded way too harsh for what the course was. usually in class you didn't even do anything very boring. don't recommend
