He is an awesome teacher. Allows you to go back and fix papers he already graded. Class is pretty chill his lectures are straight to the point. Makes being in class fun. This guy is an all around great professor. Very clear and makes you want to come to class. He is a young guy with a lot of passion for what he does. You have 5 papers to write and you present the last one. Easy grader and easy papers to write. If you have the chance to take his class do it, super easy to work with and helps you pass. Easy A.

As his ratings read! The guy is indescribably awesome. He just took over our class for another "professor." Yep, he's young, but is knowledgeable about everything. He can relate to the young crowd and old crowd. Dresses like we're all hanging out together. Way too cool. I certainly hope you take him.

He is my favorite professor at MCC out of many classes I have taken. Super laid back and makes class fun. Never have I been actually excited to go to an English class until I took this professor. Loves what he does and is good at it. There are small group projects, some essays and a presentation at the end, but if you do the work you'll be good.

He is a pretty great teacher and is very passionate about teaching. Encourages students to work hard and is pretty cool guy in general. He is a teacher that makes English enjoyable and fun! He let the students pick the topics for the essays which I thought was amazing and it made the last days of class even better with presentations.

I took this course over the summer, and although writing 5 papers is a lot to do in 8 weeks I found it to be a manageable amount of work. There was no other homework, tests, quizzes or classwork other than reading a few essays and discussing them in class. Emilio is young and easy to relate to, he is quick to give the benefit of the doubt.

Prof. O was one of the best college professors that I have ever met. His class is was so easy. All we had to do was write 5 essays. He is an easy grader, and he gives a lot of helpful feedback. You can always revise the essay and turn it in later. We often played games in class which made the class more fun. We finished class at least an hour early

He is the BEST teacher in MCC, I want to take next level English with him but it already full.

He is the best professor; he makes the subject of writing interesting. If you ask he helps with choosing topics. I took ENG 1180 over the summer all the papers are mostly depends on your own experiences. You can redo your paper until you get A. He critics the paper and make sure the students understand what they need to change by leaving note.

Professor Olivarez is the best English professor. He makes class fun and really interacts with students. He checks your essays and gives you a chance to make changes and hand them in for another grade. I definitely recommend him.

Youll have to do a little bit of reading and write a few essays but thats typical for any English class. He gives helpful feedback on essays and allows you to redo them which is nice. This class is very laid back and hes a funny guy, but he also cares and wants to help you out. Overall pretty easy class. Would recommend to anyone.

I took him for ENGL-1220. He is really nice, caring, helps students ALOT ! And never makes fun of any stupid answer or comment in class and there were many. Only 3 Essays and 1 Research paper. No exams, No quizes and He gives you a chance to revise your papers. If you need ENGL-1220, Take him and you wont regret it.

Professor O was one of my favorite teacher. His lectures are fun, and this class made me like English again. There are only 5 papers you have to write for the semester. I would highly recommend taking Professor O!

Prof Olivarez is a great guy who really made class enjoyable. Your grade is based off of only 5 papers but each one he allows you to turn it in twice to fix your mistakes

I took English 1180 this winter semester of 2019. He is seriously the biggest sweetheart and actually takes the time to learn the student. His grading is very good and gives good feedback. I read the other negative comments people posted which makes no sense at all unless you're sitting on your phone the whole class period, yea you'd hate the class

He was a decent professor. I took his online 1140 English class. I did not care for the quizzes only because I felt the material he gave you to study was only for some of the answers but he makes up for that with the papers. I am not a good writer and he gives you the chance to redo your papers, that saved me!!! He doesnt respond fast enough either

Olivarez is a great professor. I took this course online and I recommend him to everyone. You don't really need to get the book all the material/ articles can be found online. Gives good feedback, responds when you contact and sets up the online classroom in a way it is hard to fail. Would def recommend!

I never actually enjoyed an English class until this one. He is an awesome professor and makes the class fun. He is super easy going and easy to approach.

Mr. Olivarez is a very laid back guy, but do not take his kindness for weakness. He seems pre-disposed to treated everyone with dignity and respect. He utilizes the peer-review method as additional self-evaluation for assignments, prior to the actual due date. He creates an easy going atmosphere revolved around learning.

Prof. Olivarez, or as my class calls him, Mr. Emilio, is a phenomenal instructor. The class is a breeze and he explains things so clearly and so well. He doesn't over-complicate anything and will work with each student to help them find a topic for their essay. I'm only going to take ENGL1190 when he teaches it. I 10/10 recommend taking his class.

Having taken this class over 8-weeks and online (unexpectedly) due to the COVID19 outbreak, it was not smooth sailing but we made it through! The first (and only) day of class he was really cool and Im sure it would have been a lot easier if we had class time. He was very understanding though, and offers re-submission of essays for credit.

Super nice guy, very understanding and makes lectures bearable. Always answers questions and overall super helpful. There are five essays in 8 weeks, but he grades them fairly, so if you try you'll be okay. I recommend taking this class.

Absolutely loved this class with Prof Olivarez. He lets you revise your essays at the end of the semester to boost your grade after he gives you feedback on them. He helped me a lot with figuring out the mistakes I made, and how to correct them. He's a nice guy, and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I would definitely recommend taking Professor Emilio. He is very easy to approach and when you ask him to explain something he gives direct, well explained answers. He also grades fair, gives good feedback, and is overall a really great guy. I highly recommend him if you want a teacher that cares about his students and wants you to succeed.

This year was my first year in college. I am a 36 year old former hairstylist with ptsd. I never thought I could make it through college. I really enjoyed this class. If I could take every English credit with him I would. I enjoyed the feedback provided on my essays. I do feel like the class was a little unorganized and there was expectations not laid out well.

Easy class, he loves to joke around and have fun and is super chill. This was a in person class and felt more like a class talk than a lecture. Main grades are 5 essays with presenting the last one in front of the class. You get pretty good feedback from your essays with video recordings of what you did good and what you need to fix.

This professor was very nice, and made class enjoyable. Due to it being an English class you have to write a few papers, but nothing awful. They were almost all personal narrative papers (all about you). Would 10 out of 10 take class again! Best professor to take course with by far!

I had prof E last semester, I loved him. Very caring and understanding. We had 4 essays and a 10 minute presentation at the end of the semester. He doesn't allow late work but as long as you turn it in on time, he'll allow you to redo it!! He very against AI and puts essays through turnit so take that information how you please. He makes class fun!

Good teacher overall. Hes nice and the class goes by smooth. the class was really fun and can interactive with other classmates. id say literally the only thing is make sure your essays dont sound too off putting or like AI cause it will get flagged and can affect your grade.
