NICE GUY.....CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS...KIND OF HARD...STUDY HARD
he's really not all that bad. if you stay on top of your work and do your part as the student, you can walk away with a good grade. he curves a lot too so i dont understand why people complain so much. just dont fall behind and you'll be fine.
not that bad you can get a decent grade if he sees u put effort and he is understanding but get started on his assignments ASAP.
he assumes you already know all the material. exam questions may or may not be related to what was taught in class. no real way to study for the exam. yes he is a nice guy, but your not paying to be friends with him, you're paying for an education
Compounding - Definately should start the online papers/tutorials/quizzes ASAP...D&D will take up your time at the end of the semester...if your grade on the online quizzes are close to passing (80) go speak to him during office hours...he'll change your grade..dont study for his tests...impossible....its all guessing...do his extra credit paper...
He really is passionate about teaching but he needs to learn how to teach it to us...has a great knowledge of the subject but just cant protray it! DO HIS CALCULATIONS or u automatically fail (its a req. to pass) then do his tutorials, and essays, and his 1 page news article and ur guaranteed to pass even if u get a 42 on the midterm and final!!
Awesome professor, very helpful in explaining material, but very difficult. you will definitely have to study non-stop if you want a good grade.
This professor probably changed his way of teaching over the course of the years... I don't know what the people are talking about, but def pick him. Need to work hard for the grade though...but that's what school is all about.
I studied pretty hard, followed the textbook, paid attention in class. Unfortunately, he didn't follow the textbook and there was barely a curve at the end. I was not sure about anything in the class or on the test, I thought I failed each test walking out, random questions and just guessing. Good intentioned teacher but needs major improvement.
Maybe he means well, but the truth is he is awfully hard. It's best to stick with any of the other ceutics professors & u will end up with a better grade.
look, he is no cake walk, but no one should expect pharmacy to be. this man does everything for you to pass, gives review sheets, homework questions, office hours. the test questions come STRAIGHT from the review sheet. Work hard and earn something, dont expect hand outs
He is NOT that bad. And Im not expecting a high grade in his class. He is one of the nicest professors I've had and really tries to be helpful and explain topics if the class doesn't understand. That being said, his tests are REALLY hard but he gives a review sheet with the answers on it. If you take time and put in effort and you won't fail.
He's easy, very helpful, crystal clear, we used the textbook a lot.
Awesome and kind professor, know everything in the book and your good to go! not out there to trick you, plain and straightforward.
I definitely recommend taking him. Hes very good looking (even better looking than hugh jackman) makes class funny and keeps it interesting. EVERYONE SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS!YOU ARE AN AMAZING TEACHER SQUILLY WHO DESERVES A STATUE
He is the most awesome professor you will ever meet. He is hilarious and he's so cool! . If you're going to take compounding, take it with him! His class fills up really fast and to give you an idea of how popular he is, there is always a line of ppl sitting outside his office since they cant wait to see him. YOU MUST TAKE HIM!!! <3
Dr. Squillante is a nice man; I believe he genuinely wants to educate students and have them do well. Sadly, his lectures are confusing, his tests are impossible and non-sensical, and the grading is confusing & seemingly random. His class is a 4 month exercise in stress and confusion. That being said, if you can stay near the average, you'll pass
He makes his class as well as everyone's life awesome and he is awesome. His initials are EMS3, and he is rated E for everyone! (No it does NOT stand for Emergency Medical Services 3, although this school needs more instructors like him):]
Stressful experience. I had nightmares thinking about failing his class. You never know what happens next because he is so random. He makes me wanna quit pharmacy school! Be nice Squilly.... :(
EMZ3 is the man! The best email he ever sent was "For the final, bring in a box of tissues since you will need them."
HEY GUYS! I made the final pharmaceutics test! While working on this test I looked all over for difficult questions! Not only that I assembled a test that would fail any student! And now I hold the last final! GUYS! DO you know what this means?! Ill tell you! This will be the most difficult test in the world!! >:]
I love EMS3. He makes sure we leave class knowing what was taught :']
Hands down the best professor for compounding, biopharm and pharmaceutics. This man is a legend, a sure fire hall of famer. Those that didn't take him totally missed out on experiencing his brilliance. He emphasizes common sense and soul searching. Those that failed just didn't work hard. Take him at least once! YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT!!!
I just love this man! His exams are so VERY EAS-SAY!! IDK why some students look up at the ceiling during exams, what are they trying to do, pray for divine intervention? Well got news for you guys, the big guy upstairs isnt picking up since the line is busy and he certainly aint gonna accept the charges ;]
Tough course, but the tests are EXTREMELY fair and is very accessible for extra help or a talk. Really cares for students and not just a robot trying to get through the lecture. Gave a 5 min talk on how anybody off the streets can understand compounding and not settling for average that got me motivated out of my slump. You won't regret taking him!
Dr EMS3 is the MAN!!! I hated pharmacy school till I had his class!!! :]
Excellent professor. Makes 100% sense. Tests are literally things put together from book and powerpoints. You can understand all the powerpoints and the textbook, you'll pass with flying colors. Get out of the other professor's classes while you can and take him!!! PS - none of the bad ratings are real
I really don't see why students complain about Squillante. He is really enthusiastic about his material, and his credentials speak for himself. He isn't trying to make everyone's life difficult with the demands he places. He cares about the reputation of his students, the safety of the public, and I had never seen someone so dedicated. GROW UP!
ESMZ3 is the gem of the PHS department. A charismatic doctor, with years of experience, who knows HOW IMPORTANT IS IS TO BE GOAL DRIVEN, which will give everyone the DRIVE to OVERCOME obstacles regardless of what hurdles may be present. He is really motivating in class and a really inspiring professor. Pharmacy is the big league and so is es3.
Face it, esm3 is possibly one of the toughest professors at SJU who only demands the best from his students. But he really goes out of his way to help his students. He makes quizzes, study guides, provides old exams, gives extended office hours a week, gives review sessions before exams, and is so accessible. Easily one of the best PHS professors.
The class is difficult in itself. There is a lot of material to cover, and Dr. Squillante adds his own insight, and it can get confusing. Some of the emails Dr. Squillante sends are a bit lengthy, and can get confusing. That being said, he is very accessible and knows his stuff. Study the material and you'll do fine. Getting an A isn't impossible.
Exams are impossiblle. All i learn was if it walks like a duck ta;ks like a duck, it IZ a duck. Students do not want easy A's. They want to learn this subject as best as possible and do their best.
His style of teaching, which is something the other professors lack thereof, will NOT force you to teach yourself 4 credits. ALWAYS bother to read the textbook, do the homework, and go to class - seriously, ALL of this WILL help you. Awesome lectures, short useful homework, ridiculously easy tests, and borderline excellent emails. DONT pray.
Listen,Pharmaceutics isn't easy. ES3's a good man, he tries to push students to attain more respect for the Pharmacy profession. Yes, his tests are hard and specific, but pharmacy is pretty hard too. The guy's trying to prep the students for the future, I just wish his teaching skills focused more on the student's knowledge rather than his own.
WOW!I AM SO GLAD I HAD HIM FOR CEUTICS2!
HAVING HIM FOR CEUTICS2 WAS A LIFE ALTERING EXPERIENCE!! DEFINITELY LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING EMS3 FOR THE 7:30AM COMPOUNDING IN NEXT YEAR!!!
Hands down, a beacon of light in the stygian darkness of the pharmacy profession & SJU program. Incredibly smart, helpful, and simply the most entertaining class ever. It would be a true privilege to have him for ceutics1,ceutics2,compounding,and bipharm.
EMS3 - RATED E FOR EVERYONE
Students in 4thyear with a brand new year to take.Dunno whats ahead so I will get the best of them.Theres so much to teach and exams to be passed. They've advanced so far but still theres always more to come.Take a step into the classroom your gonna start all over gain. You wana be a PharmD!COMPOUNDING ADVANCED!I wont let you!You wanna be a PharmD!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS IS THE BEST PROFESSOR IN ST JOHNS,NO PROBABLY NATIONWIDE!TRULY GOD'S GIFT TO PHARMACY STUDENTS!HE REALLY SHOULD TEACH ALL THE PHS CLASSES AND THERE SHOULD BE AN UNBREAKABLE LAW WHERE EVERY STUDENT IN STJ IS REQUIRED TO HAVE HIM AT LEAST TWICE!ITS JUST SO NOT FAIR FOR SOME TO EXPERIENCE HIS BRILLIANCE AND FOR THE REST NOT TO
His initials are EMS3 and they say it all- EMS3 is the MAN!! EMS3 IS INFINITELY BETTER THAN THOSE LAM GTA4 AND MGS5!!! ^-^
My boy EMS3 is daa best.. chill guy and really nice. His test are beyond easy even if you didnt read the book word for word. The guy is really smart and for the ladies he looks like thor;)its kind of hard to pay attention because of his dashing looks but definitely take him. PS NONE OF THE BAD RATINGS ARE REAL TRUST ME ON THIS
Awesome professor.Everyone says the compounding math problems are hard as heck, but its because they expect things like 1+1!!! HELLO?!? THIS IS 4TH YEAR PHARMACY NOT 1ST GRADE!! Anyways EMS3 is the best professor on campus and everyone should be mandated to take him. Not to mention he taught us that tomatoes were actually vegetables not fruits
God Bless Squilly. Truly one of the nicest teachers ever. Helps students out as much as he can and keeps us engaged with his stories! I hope to have him again. EMS3 I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Theres no dispute! Hands down the best professor ever!! Explains everything so very well and exams are more than doable even if you didn't read the textbook. All in all, EMS3 is as wise as Socrates. Itd be a shame if you chose not to take him
He is awesome! Definately the easiest and most helpful professor for any class. He cares about what he does and his stories/exams are great. If you attend his classes, you're good to go. EMS3 is real!!Take him.Do as he says and everything will be alright
This Man is the best teacher I have ever met...i man i have never met someone so understanding before...i mean i dont even have enough words to describe how great he is, only his initials which are EMS3...YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM!! EMS3 > HHH
The best professor ever!!! Take him!! You will learn!! You may have to learn on your own a bit, but you will learn!! He tells a lot of stories and makes the class interesting and you remember stuff from it. Also, not only will he help you in class but outside of class as well!! Genuinely caring and he's super smart!!
This class is not hard at all!! Compounding is already hard, but EMS3 makes it that much easier. There's just no words to describe how awesome he is
Dr.EMS3 is the best. I had him for ceutics and now compounding for the summer. He makes class fun and I always look forward to his lectures. I love this man so much! Congrats if you have him. :)
:) you are in luck, professor squillz is really good in connecting everything to real life situations. He is helpful and always willing to meet with you and explain things. Overall, i loved the class, i learned a lot and i feel very prepared
EMS3 is the greatest professor I've ever had at St. John's. There's just no words to describe how awesome he is. Basically, his style of teaching is through real world experience/soul searching/common sense. He tells stories which helps you relate to the material and actually remember it. SIMPLY THE BEST
EMS3 is AMAZING. He's such an understanding, chill dude.probably my favorite professor at SJU. He's always willing to help students any way he possibly can. Also, he DOES teach. But you have to pay attention to learn. His stories are meant to help you relate to and understand the material. That is why he tells them. Awesome guy, must take!
Take ASAP!!! To give you an idea of how famous and we'll liked he is, his 730 morning classes always fill up fast since people can't wait to see EMS3 first thing in the morning. America runs on dunkin but Stj runs on EMS3
Such an inspirational teacher, His lectures bring tears to my eyes :']
Isnt as bad as they say. Tests are all EASY, it seems alot but if you study everyday like you should, youll get an A. Many complain about this, but this is pharmacy school, not high school where you learn general concepts. If you think he's making you learn too many details, wait till you get to years 3-6. WHAT DO Y0U EXPECT!??!?
If you have him, wow LUCKY YOU!!! It will be one class less you have to deal with!!!
He is such a great teacher. He is one of those guys that you just know is ridiculously smart, but he is a really great teacher unlike most! He is clear and can dumb it down for all to understand. Read and you will get an A but you will have to work for it! Best class I have taken at STJ and most I have learned!
Professor Squillante has a good heart. However, we live in a generation where we've been trained to study using powerpoints, probably because it's the most efficient way for us to learn such massive amounts of information, in such little time. I respect him and gave him a chili pepper rating to back it up. He's a good guy. Good intentions for sure
To say this guy is amazing is a vast understatement. Check out all the reviews left by previous students on how awesome he is- LOL
I love this professor! Hes a regular comedian! The best email he EVER sent the class was "Bring in a box of tissues for the final, since you will need them before you're thru" :
EMS3 FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!!! **PRESIDENT THEME PLAYS***
Half the semester's gone by and he advises one-fourth of the class to withdraw or risk failure according to his calculations. It's a statistical fact.
Dr. Squillante gets a bad rap, but he's really not that bad. Its clear he really does put effort into the course.
After having him for two semesters (going to have him for another), I have to say he's not a bad guy. I believe all the animosity he got in the past was because he failed so many students and for students, grades are all that matter. Recently he grades nicer and I have to say I learn a decent amount. See you soon, please be easy on us....
This class was really easy. There is a huge curve- grades ranging from 50-100 was an A. Reading isn't necessary, just go to class and take notes, that's where his tests come from. trust me on this! :
Emilio Squillante is the best professor in that pharmacy program. Just being in his presence will make you smarter. Anyone who complains is just lazy and hostile towards anyone that doesnt spoon feed them.
To get an A in this class, you need to read your book, sometimes over and over again. You need to read the papers he gives you, and ask intelligent questions. Go to class. I loved this class; I learned more in one semester than I had in 18 years. Take him if you're ready to be an adult and take responsibility for your learning. ENJOY
He gave out our final grades. Therefore- TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY LALALALALALALALA EMS3 IS WAY BETTER THAN SANTA
He knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake! Same thing with EMS3- if you've been good and studying, youll get an A. If you've been bad and doing nothing but partying you will be rewarded with an F
Get the textbook and highlight what he highlights during the lectures. Skim his email attachments but most importantly do the questions he sends you in those attachments... he loves to reuse questions. If your exam grade is above average you're pretty much guaranteed a good grade with his massive curves (20-40 point curves). Squillante our hero...
Bring the book to class because he highlights important stuff. Study the emails he sends too. I studied the book heavily and read his emails and did well in his class. Pay attention in class to get respect. He grades quickly and makes mistakes so be sure to go to him if you disagree with your grades. Tests are exactly like the textbook.
Hard to follow during lecture. Somewhat vague/unclear assignments. Uses turnitin for homework assignments.
He isnt a bad professor he clearly wants the students to learn as much as possible but I wish he knew that assigning so much homework isnt the best way to go about it since it leaves no time to actually study and understand the material
Good intentions but very disorganized during the lecture. Also assigns homework that help with future courses but have little to no relation to what is being taught during class (turnitin). Nice guy, but overall really scattered lectures. Gives pop quizzes.
I applaud this professor or his effort, makes a huge effort to help students understand the material. Yes, he can be a bit unclear in class but it is up to us students to ask questions. some students ask questions and the ones that dont will complain all they can. he tries more than some of the students in his class. you study, you will be fine
He's not a bad guy, but his tests are rather difficult. The majority of the content on his exams are not at all related to what he lectures about during class. Would advise to pay close attention to whatever material he sends you through emails as some questions were related to this, but very few. Most questions were seen the 1st time on the exam.
truly one of the most outstanding professors in the country. chat with him, let him know your name. his curves are huge at the end. god bless you Dr. Squillante
Do not recommend this professor because his tests have questions from who knows where. Gives you study guides that are 50+ pages long. Sends you emails throughout the day but each one is pretty much a book in itself; doesn't know the meaning of get to the point. Overall, just try to avoid having him.
He's the creme de la creme of pharmacy school professors.
Dr. Squillante is a really reasonable guy if you talk to him in person and speak your mind. I applaud him for taking the time out to hear my class and allowing us to make up points in order to get a higher grade.
Dr. Squillante puts a tremendous amount of effort into his class. He details what students should focus on as well as what they do not need to focus on. I have gone to his office hours on two separate occasions to discuss test questions i thought i deserved credit for and he gave me credit because i annotated on my exam. Great professor great man!!
This is a very difficult class, but Dr. Squillante makes himself available for students to excel by supplementing all of his lectures with study guides that includes videos that really dumb down the complicated vernacular used in this class. You can see he cares for his students and does try his best. Don't piss him off he's a nice man.
Listen here guys, this professor is one of the most intellectual individuals at St. John's University. He has a wealth of knowledge and prepares his students for future classes. It is a difficult class but he is not as bad as people make him out to be. He is kind and cares for his students so he won't fail you as long as you're making an effort.
EMS3 is the MAN! hes the perfect solution to the problem of way too many pharmacists graduating from rx schools- they should have him write all the naplex questions since none shall pass.
He teaches good practical knowledge and he probably is one of the smartest people here. However, his tests are the most difficult. What I can say is read/memorize the text, go to class and take good notes, and even though youll do poorly on exams feel secure in the fact that you now know more about ceutics than everyone else and prob some profs too
EMS3 is truly a legend here at the St. John's University pharmacy program. Hes been teaching since before we were born. How do you pass his class? Argue with him at office hours, argue for scaling, study his messy guides and read the textbook. A brilliant man and hes been improving but still just light years ahead of us in skill. Curves like crazy!
He is somewhat caring but overall there is always a disconnect between what he teaches, what we understand and what pops up on the test. He makes simple ideas very complicated and on every test, the average is failing. That being said, fight for every point back on the test because he will give you points back and most likely curve it a lot.
Dr. Squillante clearly knows his stuff but is absolutely terrible at teaching it or even helping us understand the material, his grading rubrics aren't clear, the exams end up being completely different from what he gives us to study for (sending a 15 page 'study guide' isn't much help when none of it is even on the final.
Dr. Squillante is a very intelligent professor. His understanding of the subject is immense. He does value the textbook heavily, so be sure to read up. Cheers
Goes on random tangents during his classes instead of actual teaching, the exams end up being completely different from what he tells us and overly complicated. Sends overly long emails to get a simple point across, the final is one of the hardest exams you're gonna deal with in pharmacy school, he gets forced to give a curve at the end though.
Dr. Squillante was a very caring and reasonable professor. Taught us material that was important and mattered for our future in pharmacy. Worked with students to ensure they understood the material and were able to pass the class. Offered office hours and allowed us to participate in class and ask any question from the textbook that we may have.
Dr. Squillante is a very kind and knowledgeable professor. He is very down to earth and although the information may seem complex at first, once reading the assigned textbook chapters and supplemental materials it becomes much more clear. Dr. Squillante is very understanding and fair so a simple conversation with him can make a huge difference.
Truly cares about his class and students. Offered office hours and always willing to help as much as he possibly can. Amazing guy and would recommend his class if you truly want to learn about biopharm and kinetics.
Incredibly intelligent professor. Work hard, pay attention, learn, and you'll be competent in compounding. Loves what he teaches.
Too many resources that are not on the exams Its like taking jeopardy and do not even try to study for his exams because the exams are nonsense with random tidbits of information
get ready to guess your heart out on his exams and end up with a rando grade at the end lol if there was a 0 here i would give
he's deleting reviews again
Did he flunk yall and now yall gotta pay up for summer school? Thats Sh*t Johns for you. The deans gonna use them funds for their next yachts ( hope they all sink)
what's the point in taking attendance and assigning hw when the people that don't show up to class and cheat on exams are scoring the highest? this class is rigged. you won't learn anything. he is also extremely rude and threatening. he acts like a victim. don't fall for his tactics
This class has a very specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, you can learn a lot. Attend lectures, read the textbook, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy for study prep. The exams can be challenging, but the professor is knowledgeable.
Avoid at all costs. Terrible.
The absolute worst professor at St. John's. Doesn't teach anything, tests you on random points of information taken from so many various random online resources, and acts like he's doing everyone a favor and making our lives easier. We are now so far behind as we approach Ceutics II, something that no pharmacy student should be okay with.
One of the worst courses I have ever taken. Class material/ lectures are very disorganized; what is required on the exams is not taught during the lectures. You have to sort through the countless sources the professor gives you and pray that you choose the correct one for the exams. Might be worse than taking the NAPLEX at this point...
Dr. Squillante has a very specific teaching style that requires significant work outside of class, but he provides countless resources to support student learning. Students who actively use these resources tend to do well. Among the Ceutics I professors he is the most fair and genuinely wants his students to succeed.
Dr. Squillante is a professor who is willing to help students with any resources to have them succeed in class. This course is tough itself but there is a lot of available resources to help you get good grades for the exams and do stay on top of things. Go to office hours to get insight about the class and exams.
Dr. Squillante offers a variety of resources for his students to do well on exams. Pharmaceutics is a difficult class, no doubt; however, he cares about you gaining the knowledge and will do his best to help the majority of the class. He knows faces. Make sure you utilize his office hours.
The good comments are bots. This was definitely a weed-out class.
