Although this class was online, Dr. Alicea really made it one that I enjoyed attending. She explained some complicated topics pretty well and made it an overall great experience. She also captures my attention nicely with some well-designed clicker questions to help our understanding of the subject. Labs were a pain, but to no fault of her own.
Despite the course being online, Dr. Alicea did a great job of energizing the class and interacting with the students. She's a legend and was extremely invested in the class. You could tell she really enjoys teaching and makes classes fun. If you skip lectures or doze off, you probably will struggle but stay focused and Muñoz will carry you through
Dr. Alicea really cares for her students and this class despite being met with hundreds of student initials on her computer every morning. She's so dedicated that she would lecture even though she had to undergo surgery right before our final midterm. You can tell she knows the material well and makes sure to answer every question thrown her way.
Dr. Alicea is such an awesome professor! Her lectures are fun an interesting and she's very enthusiastic about class. It is very obvious that she cares about all of us, even in a 200 person class!
She's an amazing professor who cares deeply about her students. She trusts all of her students and wants them to succeed so bad. She even gave lecture right after getting surgery because it was right before a test. Please take her for PHYS 2211. You will not regret it. (Also her test problems are pretty easy :) )
Very talented at lecturing, very accessible, very knowledgeable in Physics, and a wonderful person overall. Unbelievable that this was her first semester lecturing.
Just take Dr. Alicea if given the option. You won't regret it.
Alicea was extremely helpful during office hours and clearly enjoys teaching the course content. Her summary notes before each test were incredibly useful. She is very responsive through email and Campuswire. Previously, she was a head TA for this class for many years and her experience really shows.
Dr. Alicea is the only reason I was able to do well in Intro Physics I. The class is tough but she was very accessible and made it easy to ask her questions about homework, labs, or lectures. She is definitely a great professor and is dedicated to her students. She was also very engaging but beware the tests are tough!
Honestly the only reason I got through physics. Extremely caring and explains things very well. I actually took physics with the other section/professor but sat through her lectures and used her notes because she was so much more effective of an educator. Easily accessible outside of class and very kind and funny
Dr. Alicea clearly cares about her subject and works hard to make class fun and interesting. She uses clicker questions, some of which were just Avatar and Spongebob memes, during lectures for attendance, however the attendance portion of the grade can be substituted with other optional assignments. She is the most caring, pure professor, 10/10.
Professor Alicea was a great lecturer and explained physics concepts very clearly. She does a ton of practice problems in class and recitation which are very helpful for the tests. I didn't need to touch the textbook at all. She's very dedicated, enthusiastic, caring, and fun. Class grading scheme is pretty forgiving and the tests weren't too bad.
Given the remote format and additional strain caused by the pandemic, Dr. Alicea was very caring and made the effort to make the class more flexible to accommodate students and reduce stress. There were many extra credit opportunities and easy participation points (HW, clickers) helped offset a low test grade. Textbook in syllabus but not used.
Dr. Alicea made Physics 1 a very enjoyable experience. The mini-tests/final are all very reasonable, and she made an effort to reduce the stress caused by the pandemic. Multiple extra credit opportunities were given, and the textbook provided was optional.
Dr. Alicea was a very involved lecturer, and extremely enthusiastic. There was a point where we had to ask her to stop answering every single question from students because she was just that involved. Take her class if you can.
She is very organized, knowledgeable, and caring: exactly what you need to succeed in your first physics college class. She is very accessible outside of class and won't stop explaining material until you fully understand. Her lectures and office hours were great for studying for exams. Loved taking the class with her!
Awesome Professor! The class was set up poorly, but Professor Alicia was able to adapt and release better lectures. She is kind and understanding, would 100% take her class again.
Dr. Alicia-Munoz is just awesome, plain and simple. She's so accessible, interactive, and helpful. She truly understands student needs and always makes sure to stay in touch with the general student population. She's also an amazing teacher in general and is just awesome all around!
Truly cares about her students. Tried to make the course as doable as possible.
This class was very good, very good lecturer. Explained the concepts well, and was super accessible
Dr. Alicea is a very caring instructor who is always willing to help students succeed. She made physics 2 a very smooth and enjoyable experience.
Very nice and helpful
Probably the most caring person at Tech. Genuinely a treat to have her and Professor Fenton for 2211. Her structure added to the class and communication with students is the biggest asset for anyone taking the class. Definitely do what you can to take her for 2211!
Dr. Alicea is the most understanding professor I've had thus far at Tech. I was going through some very unexpected health issues and not once did she make my life harder, she only offered her unconditional support and help. She also is excellent when it comes to asking for academic help. Overall, amazing professor and person.
Had her as the lab coordinator for physics 1. Always responds to emails quickly and really cares about her students. Def take physics with her if you can.
Dr. Alicea was a gem to have. She's extremely accessible outside of class- willing to help with lab or questions about homework. She posts very helpful review material and overall cares about her students/their grades.
Alicea is the sweetest, kindest, most generous, caring, and wonderful teacher I have taken at tech to date!!!
Best teacher I have taken in Tech. Excellent lectures and great communication with students. Every lecture has in-class participation questions that are graded just for submission, so you will need to attend lectures. If you go to lectures and understand the examples she gives, you will do well. Use old exams to practice for tests.
She's a great professor, especially if you have never taken physics before. But, this class is not an easy A. She is the better professor out of everyone else. I highly recommend taking her!
Dr. Alicea-Munoz is an amazing professor, she teaches so well and really understands the needs of her students. The grading is super fair and she makes everything make sense. A super enjoyable professor and I recommend anyone who can takes her for physics.
Dr. Alicea was one of my favorite professors from this semester and the only reason I didn't get an A was because I kept sleeping through class and got really behind. She explains concepts very thoroughly and makes them easy to understand. If you are taking physics, take it with her and go to class.
One of the best, if not the best, professors I've had at Tech. Very caring and offers plentiful opportunities for success. Always available through Ed, office hours, email, or even after class. Exams were easy if you take the provided practice tests and get help if you need it. Highly recommend!
One of the best profs I've had. Genuinely cares about her students both in and outside of class. Gave me some extensions and rounded some grades to help me finish with an A in the class. Makes boring topics more fun, and is super easy to reach. Overall an amazing professor that anyone would be lucky to have.
Dr. Alicea is a great lecturer! Once you get used to her fast paced teaching style (takes about a week), her explanations are really easy to understand, and she answers questions thoroughly so you never leave feeling confused. Her lectures are fun, and she is very accessible outside of class through EdX and office hours.
I took this as a summer class online. Alicea herself was amazing; her weekly review videos were really clear to understand and she was easily available for questions. Not super happy with the formatting of the class as all the lectures were recorded from other professors. The class is difficult but there's generous partial credit.
Physics 1 with Dr. Alicea-Munoz is the way to go. I was nervous since it's Physics at Tech, but if you go through all the recorded lectures and the homeworks you are completely fine. She is incredibly thorough and there was never a problem where I was confused after she went through it. Highly recommend taking it async with her over the summer.
Took the online async version of 2211. Despite being recorded, lectures were clear, informative, and she does a great job of explaining student misconceptions and providing detailed answers. She did a great job of making herself known and accessible through weekly updates on Ed. Grading is very generous and she is an extremely caring person.
She's attentive to students and makes herself very available and transparent outside of class. She changed the lab report rubric based on student feedback and gave us a detailed reason why (based on numerous reports of unfair grading and harassment in the group chats). The tests were hard but not anything you wouldn't have been taught in class.
The course was asynchronous so my experience was pretty rough because of that. With that being said lectures were pretty good for prerecorded lessons. Professor had ~1 week lead time to respond to emails but was more than willing to have 1 on 1 meetings (She arranged one w me on an Institute holiday which was very nice). Tests/HW similar to lecture
i took the online version of physics over the summer and prof alicea made it so easy. interesting material and the tests were pretty similar to the hw
TAKE PROF ALICEA! I took it over the summer. She thoroughly explains concepts, her examples are always relevant, and she is very caring. She is also always available and wants to help you succeed! I didn't have any physics knowledge coming into this class, and she made it so enjoyable. Labs are very fun and GSP problems are very similar to tests.
I suck at physics, I was never able to do well in high school and then when I took Dr. Alicea's class I did really well. The labs are relatively easy and while the tests were hard, there's lots of partial credit. Dr. Alicea also teaches really well! Also, she's super accessible and there are weekly assignments with flexible due dates!
Great! Take her class if you can. Truly the best :)
Most amazing professor I've had for any class. I've taken physics classes in high school and grown a hatred for them but she actually made it fun for me. As long as you do the work, it is very easy to succeed. I am honestly kind of sad to be leaving her class because she was just such a kind hearted and enjoyable professor.
Dr. Alicea is an amazing professor! She is extremely passionate about physics, and her excitement made the lectures engaging. She does a good job of making physics fun. I came into the class knowing absolutely nothing of physics, and although I had a rough start, the resources she provides us with really helps! Definitely take her if you can!!
Alicea is the GOAT, you should absolutely take her class if you have the chance to. You'll be way better at physics for it, and you'll have a good time in class. Lectures are engaging and worth attending.
Amazing professor, provides video lecture recordings for all sections of PHYS 2211 so that even students outside of her lectures can be prepared to succeed in the class in addition to being extremely caring and flexible for her students
I struggled with AP Physics C in high school, mainly with the angular momentum and motion topics. Also the mv^2/R stuff used to be confusing. Dr. Alicea explains it really well and she's EXTREMELY helpful on Ed discussion and office hours. She made physics so engaging too for many, something that is quite the accomplishment. Take her if you can.
PHYS 2211 is a challenging class, no matter who you take it with. Prof. Alicea moves very fast which can take some time to get used to, but she breaks down & explains concepts very clearly and provides a plethora of study resources. She records all of her lectures which are incredibly helpful to review and beyond all, is incredibly caring & sweet.
Dr. Alicea is awesome! She has moved back some lab deadlines and is willing to be helpful in ed discussions (forum discussions) to answer questions about lectures and tests. I would 5/5 recommend taking her for either physics I or II as you will learn a lot and be entertained while doing so.
Dr. Alicea is the greatest professor! Her lectures are engaging and she makes hard physics concepts easy to understand by focusing on real-world problems instead of derivations and etc. She's also very caring and easy to reach out to when you have an issue.
Probably the best teacher I've ever had. Phenomenal lectures and slides, enjoyed labs, loved the course structure and methods of teaching (the Procedures in the PPTs are amazing). Great resources, super caring + accessible. Genuinely understood concepts fundamentally as opposed to using formulae, and it really paid off. Undisputed teaching GOAT.
I've never liked physics too much but Dr. Alicea was excellent in her clarity and ability to make physics effortless. 100% recommended!
Dr. Alicea is amazing! I went into the class scared of physics and came out as someone who genuinely enjoyed the class! She is a great lecturer and the tests are fair. 10000/10 would recommend
Hear me out: she is the best professor ever! Physics is a hard subject itself but her lectures are so comprehensive. She cares about her students, has the best humor, is very relatable, and has several grade repair options. If you want to survive physics, she is literally the best option at Georgia Tech. Make sure you do practice exams, lifesaver!
I did not have her as my physics professor, but I relied on her videos of the solutions to the Group Problem Solving sessions to succeed in Modern Physics 1. Absolutely phenomenal explanations! Tests were hard, but she gave me a great foundation to physics problem-solving. TAKE HER IF YOU GET THE CHANCE! Modern Physics 2 will be a breeze with her!
Dr. Alicea-Munoz is awesome for Physics I. She is extremely knowledgeable and approachable. All of her lectures were recorded in case you wanted to refer back to an example she covered (super helpful when studying for midterms and the final). You can expect to have a solid understanding of the concepts all while enjoying the material.
One of the best teachers I've ever had, absolutely incredible at teaching difficult concepts in ways students can fundamentally understand. Super fun and caring, and her lectures and PPTs are fantastic. Wholeheartedly deserves the only-5s rating she's got on here.
Incredible Professor. I naturally suck at Physics, but she explained it thoroughly and did great demos during lectures. If you can't get her at least get modern so you can watch her videos. Truly a lifesaver, I thought I'd fail this class. Available to help students, and wants the best for you. She carries the entire Physics department on her back.
Just here to say anyone who hates her class is really just an Opp and is 1000% at fault. Best professor I've had for physics ever. took physics 1 and 2 with her !
Dr. Alicea is not only the best physics professor but literally the best professor I had in all my four years at Georgia Tech. She provides many, many options to help student climb their grades up from difficult exams and also extra credits.
I didn't even have Prof. Alicea as my professor for this class, but I had access to her lectures as she paired with my professor. Her lectures are super thorough and she does a really good job of explaining the content. She is also super nice and flexible with her students.
The greatest physics professor for both PHYS 2212 and 2211. I don't think I would've passed this class so easily without her because my professor was professor Jiang who is an okay lecturer but Munoz is on another level. I would watch her videos and understand concept easily and that would translate to good exam scores. Take her if you can!
The best of the best! I'm so lucky that I got to learn from her! Absolutely incredible as a person and as a teacher
Dr. Alicea may be the best professor on campus. During the year, she took time to make sure all the students were doing ok in the class - whether it be their grade or their understanding of the concepts. At the end of the year, she went through each individual student's assignments to try and improve their grade as much as she could. 5/5 no doubt.
Dr. Alicea is the best option for PHYS 2212! She has very helpful lectures and notes and is the most accessible professor ever. She really cares about her students and does her best to help us learn the material from physics 2, which was definitely harder than physics 1. Tests get harder as the semester goes on, but they are doable. You got it!
Greatest prof ever, she's actually the GOAT. Phenomenal lectures that make abstract concepts understandable and fun, well-structured resources, super caring and cares about not just your grade but your approach towards Physics. Reignited my love for the subject after high school. She should 100% be the face of teaching in GT.
Best physics professor!! Awesome lectures that made content so understandable. Actually made me feel like physics 2 was easier than physics 1.
Dr. Alicea-Munoz is by far the sweetest professor I have taken at GT. I took PHYS 2211 online over the summer, and watching her lectures made it so understandable. It is a hard class for sure, but she makes it easy for students to succeed. I wish I could give her 6 or 7 stars because she is truly amazing.
Great professor, hard class. Always a tough combination but it's not an easy A. Easy B at best. Try not to fall behind on lecture, she will give you "bucket points" for attendance but not necessary and lectures are recorded.
If you get the chance to take her class, I highly recommend going to lecture and paying close attention. The lectures aren't boring and she seems to really care that everyone in the class understands what she is teaching. I won't say it's easy, but you have the tools to do well in the class.
At Georgia Tech, I have discovered that many professors don't have a passion for teaching. That was until I discovered Dr. Alicea. Because of her instruction style and engaging dialogue I started to look forward to her lectures, and rediscovered my eagerness to learn. As a woman, I look up to her and hope one day I'm as strong as she is!
Her lectures are not boring at all and she clarifies any questions you might have. She's very caring towards students and is obviously very passionate about what she does. Lectures are also streamed on Teams & recorded. There are a ton of resources! If you put effort into it you can do well (even if you're not good at physics).
didn't have her as my professor, but I watched all of her video lectures. I was behind about 3 weeks in lectures (don't do that please) so I binged all her lectures and did practice, and I was still confident on the exams. keep up with her and an A is beyond attainable. no boring lectures, very inciteful. there's a reason why she only has 5 stars.
Great professor, there is an option to go to class or not, definitely go to class and don't fall behind in lectures, as content can build up quickly. There are weekly group problem worksheets, which can be difficult, but are only for credit and sometimes very similar questions to the tests.
I hardly attended in-person lectures, and instead used the online videos. It cannot be understated how much Alicea absolutely CARRIES this course with her content.
Physics is tough, but her grading system made it very possible to get an A even if you struggled with testing. Ample study materials provided, clear test topics, and great recorded lectures. No curve, but the grading system is fair enough to help you out. Very helpful in office hours.
Phenomenal lecturer and great professor. I was never bored by the any of the lectures, and the instead of just reading bullet points she inserts a large amount of examples into her lectures. Even with the difficulties of Physics 2 as a subject, she made it easy and my favorite class I've taken thus far.
Though she was only the course coordinator, Dr. Alicea was one of the best professors I've had in my 3 years at Tech. She was caring about her students and really just wanted us to succeed. She was very understanding with deadlines (with technology crashes or personal issues) and her class was the most organized class ever. Would 10000% take again.
Dr Alicea is without any doubt one of the best professors at Tech - if not the best! Her lectures were in depth, and she always kept us engaged. She made sure to answer any questions, even though it was a very large class and cares a lot about the students. It is very sad that she is not teaching Physics 2 this semester. Take her if you can!!!
The tests were pretty easy compared to the difficulty of the homework. Homework had a flexible deadline. Class was calc based but was almost exactly the same as algebra based. Labs were about 30 minutes of working on problems. You have to turn in lab assignments based in vpython. They take some time but aren't bad and were peer graded.
Hands down the best physics professor on Tech. I had a different teacher but reviewed her lectures and was extremely helpful. Engaging and just a genuine good professor. 100% rec
Such a good teacher. Super kind, very understanding, makes excellent videos.
Amazing professor. Highly highly recommend making a one on one appointment with her in review for exams, shes amazing at explaining and clarifying concepts. Super nice and helpful, she wants you to do well in the class.
SHE IS TRULY SPECIAL! The greatest professor I've taken and that's saying something considering she's teaching PHYS 2211. She is so funny, easy to understand in lectures. Easy midterms and she runs the course so well. If you're in the HP section, she even makes the final optional for them sometimes and they do an easy final project. Labs easy.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! If you get the chance please take her for physics 2211. I actually didnt even have her but i went to her lectures and she makes the class so engaging. She also has the most amazing online system for feedback, lectures, etc. All past material can be accessed digitally. I honestly appreciate her tech savviness so much.
LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!! Her greatest quality are her lectures are also very easy to follow and learn from. Her in class demonstration is also very helpful. You can also see that she is very passionate in teaching physics!
Physics 1 at Tech is super hard. In my opinion, it's the hardest class I've taken, but Dr. Alicea explained things so well. If you can't get her as your professor for 2211, don't worry because you can just watch all her videos that she puts on Canvas. The only downside is that the labs use a lot of coding and we are never taught how to code.
Hands down best 2211 professor!
Dr. Alicea is a wonderful course coordinator and lecturer! Her accessibility both in class and online provide a huge advantage to students, and she is really good at introducing new topics while being mindful of the level of preparedness of students!
The reviews are true, she really is a great professor. I could never manage to do well in high school AP Physics, but Dr. Alicea helped me finally understand physics concepts and make things click. Her lectures are very helpful, and if you do the practice tests you should be good for the exams, though they can be quite hard so definitely study.
She has the lecture material online, so you can use it for review. But it's still recommended to attend lectures online or in person. You will have a lot of homework, but they're not too difficult. She prepares students for the exams well and has resources that can help you prepare for them. It's a difficult class, but she makes it manageable.
ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS AT TECH. Amazing lecturer, as well as a caring teacher, Tests are reasonably difficult. As long as you attentively participate in lectures, you do not need to stress at all in her class. Basically recommended by everyone.
She's such an amazing professor! I'm not good at physics, but the way she teaches it makes the material a lot easier to understand. She goes over lots of examples in detail, and exams are usually pretty similar to questions she goes over in the lectures. There's also tons of material for extra practice in order to succeed
She is truly an incredible professor, the best I've had at GT. I'm taking physics 2211 right now as a sophomore and she has really made things click for me unlike they did in high school physics. Homework really helps for tests and also the GPS worksheets so make sure you can do those on your own and you should be set for the exams
Her love for Avatar and Physics are apparent in every lecture. There are a lot of comments about Test 3 but me and most of my friends/lab ppl said they felt fine about it. Tests aren't easy, but fair. It's physics, it's hard. But if you put in the work, you will do well. The lowest test is only 5%. The course is designed so you can have "slip-ups".
Stopped going to my professor's class after a few weeks and starting going to Alicea's. They were fine but Dr. Alicea is awesome, I do not understand how someone can be so consistently straightforward with all of their teaching. She cares a lot, and she always responds on the ed discussion board to all sorts of questions.
Alicea is passionate about the concepts she teaches and clearly cares for her students' understanding. I have never taken a class this organized that provides as many resources to succeed. Lectures are very helpful and offered virtually which is very nice. Many practice questions available to study for midterms and the final.
She is an amazing professor that truly cares about her students doing well. She is always available to help you out to make sure you understand what you need to. Physics is a difficult class, but it is very easy to do well in it with her as a professor.
I took PHYS 2211 in the Summer of 2022 while it was an online course. Alicea-Munoz was an extremely caring professor who evidently loved what she was doing while she was teaching. The course consisted of difficult tests and Python-based homeworks. While the tests were difficult, partial credit was awarded which made it easy to do okay in the class.
Dr. Alicea-Munoz is very caring and teaches very well. She cares a lot about people understanding the content and is generally responsive to students and with grade curves.
Since the course is graded by so many things, you do not have to do extremely well on exams to get an a. Dr Alicea is a wonderful person, she respects her students and is very caring. She streamed and posted her lectures online which made learning really accessible as I had difficulties physically going to lectures. Wonderful person 10/10 recommend
ALICEA THE GOAT! She's the best physics teacher ever. Watch her recorded lectures! I didn't even have her as a teacher but her video lectures were the only reason I got an A. She even healed everything that went wrong in high school AP Physics. She's also a super responsive and organized course coordinator. I understand physics now, thanks to her!
I didn't do great in AP Physics C in high school, so I was scared coming into the course. But, the way Dr. Alicea taught the content made a lot more sense to me than how I previously learned it. Even if you don't have her, all of her lectures are recorded and posted on Canvas. The example problems she does in them are really helpful.
actual goat teacher
She's actually the GOAT. I always hated physics, but I LOVED the way she taught and made it accessible for everyone to understand. She was funny, and a true gem. The exams were not too difficult if you do practice problems and pay attention in class. The best thing is, she was very open to changing based on feedback, which many teachers don't do.
Dr. Alicea is an amazing physics professor. Her lectures are engaging and she genuinely cares about student learning. The coursework is challenging but manageable with regular attendance and using resources like Unstuck AI for practice.
Dr. Alicea-Munoz is amazing! Her lectures convey physics principles in a way that is easy to understand (I daresay even fun!). I attended her office hours after missing 3 weeks with bronchitis and she was very patient and helpful. The grading structure was generous and in the students' favor. Do not take physics 1 or 2 with anyone else at GT.
Had her for PHYS I over the summer, meaning pre-recorded lectures. They were amazing. I am now watching her PHYS II lectures as I take it on campus, because she is x1000 better than my current lecturer. Highly recommend you take her course, or use her lectures to supplement your worse professor's lectures.
She is a good lecturer and attendance isn't mandatory, you just need to do clickers. She also uploads a LOT of resources to try and help you. Her tests are crazy hard and way harder than any practice problems in lectures. Really sweet person. Be prepared for hard tests and hard labs.
Don't go to class, just watch her videos. Alicea is miles better than any other physics prof. She is EXTREMELY sweet and a fantastic lecturer. She always gives enough time for clickers and does lots of explanations with physical objects to reinforce knowledge. The exams are notoriously very hard, but are graded fairly + you can regrade request.
She is very nice and a great professor. She is very passionate about physics, and very accessible outside of class. There are attendance points that go into a bucket category, but you can do other things to get the points so you don't need to go to class. Partial credit on exams is very generous as long as you show some understanding of physics.
Dr. Alicea is a great lecturer who cares about her students. She is very knowledgeable about physics and always provides proofs to support her claims, rather than saying, "trust me bro." This class is hard, especially for those with little physics background in high school, but Dr. Alecia makes it better by working out A TON of examples in class.
This class is not designed for success. Many people who did well in this class had prior knowledge from AP physics. Dr. Alicea was pretty dry and intimidating via ed-discussion, a platform that was supposed to make students feel more comfortable with reaching out. There are way too many students taking this class for you to actually learn anything.
Dr. Alicea herself is a kind & caring person. However, this course as a whole is just brutal. I've never had to worry too much about my grades & have a decently high GPA. If your past physics experiences were poor, tests may be even worse as a certain thought process is required. Little opportunity to catch up if you lack beginning knowledge prior.
Dr. Alicea is nice, but this class is not structured well at all. There is barely any leniency with the grading and, after hearing how peers did in previous semesters, it seems that they have recently restructured the course to make it harder. No cios incentive, barely extra credit ("bucket points"), no grade replacement etc.
The content in this class was just a lot over a short period of time. If you want to do well I'd say put in the extra effort to rewatch Alicea's lectures and make sure you understand the concepts. Labs peer graded so easy and plenty of extra credit available. Not all assignments are mandatory but it is still a lot of work. Alicea is an amazing prof
Dr. Alicea is the best physics 1 prof. I didn't have physics in hs, and this class was REALLY HARD. If you have never taken physics, get a weekly tutor. Grading scheme is kinda forgiving. You can bomb one test and still get an A (I got a 56 on exam 1 and finished with a 91). Go to class, do all the practice problems, and use the Ed Discussion.
She was very good at lecturing, but sometimes could forget that not everyone knew physics like she did, and skipped over some basic stuff in problems later on. She also has really millennial-like humor, which isn't a bad thing, just cringey. Very easy to get a B in class, if you are better at physics or really lock in, you can for sure get an A.
Best PHYS2211 teacher available! Physics is a hard class in general so no matter what teacher you get, it will be hard and up to you to learn the material. However, Alicea explains the content amazingly and will help you graciously if you ask. She truly is amazing. She posts her annotated notes after class so you can look at them when studying.
I don't understand the other positive reviews; the lecturer does the bare minimum and teaches the formulas and theorems, but that's it. The content and exams are also extremely difficult. The exams especially have questions you've never seen before. There's also too much busy work, such as homeworks, which are long and don't prepare you for exams.
EXTREMELY hard exams! The professor doesn't do a good job of preparing you for the tests that are unnecessarily difficult. On one of the lecture videos, the professor said that a test 3 median of around 74 is considered "better than expected"!
The professor is a very nice and engaging lecturer, but she makes the multiple exams so difficult! Nearly all the exams are curveballs.
Best professor for physics 2. Took this course online and it was easy.
She is an outstanding professor. I took this class online and found it much easier than the in-person version. The recorded lectures explain the concepts very clearly, and the ample practice tests prepared me well for exams. As long as you pay attention to the recorded lectures and utilize the GPS and practice tests, this class is a breeze.
The lecturer does a great job at giving you ample amounts of practice material, relevant examples through labs and group-work problems over teams, and has access to many helpful TA's while being very responsive to emails and questions on Ed-Stem. Tests are hard, with self-studying being necessary to pass. Hard class, good teacher.
Dr. Alicea is by far the best professor for Physics. For those who say her exams are hard and beyond what they believe was taught, you're wrong. As long as you understand the content well and its applications, no matter the question given, you'll be able to apply what you know. Not to mention the generous partial credit given. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!
Dr. Alicea is by far the best Physics Prof at Tech. She takes complicated information and presents it in an easy-to-understand way with TONS of examples. Physics II is a challenging course, and the tests reflect that. However, the grade breakdown allows you to succeed even if you don't do very well on the three midterms and final.
Physics 2 is known to be a demanding class, but alicea tries to make it easier to grasp. Summer semester goes fast and is very time consuming, but doing the GPS, lecture videos, and practicing past exams will prepare you well. I took phys 2211 here last sem with alicea, and phys 2212 had higher average exam scores surprisingly.
Her lectures are super helpful and consists of tons of examples that help you learn the material. Exams can be difficult as they cover material learned in class but is sometimes hard to understand what's going on at first to be able to start the problem. Luckily, there's partial credit and the 5/10/15 split of the 3 exams help with your grade.
Great Teacher, who truly cares about our students. You are given many resources to succeed, although the tests are difficult. However, with a nice grading scheme, and lots of partial credit on the exams, this class is very doable.
she's so funny and somehow makes physics relatively understandable. her tests are horrendous though!
She is a great teacher, and she makes physics fun. But the tests are extremely difficult for no reason. I feel like there is no reason for the test to be so much harder than the homework.
As someone who doesn't have to take any physics classes besides PHYS 2211, this class and it's exams felt HORRIBLE. Still, Dr. Alicea is by far the best lecturer you can take for the class, to a point of making me look forward to the class at least a bit. The grading scheme still makes it fine to do well in the class, and labs are trivial.
Class was very difficult, Alicea gives a lot of resources to use to study outside, and on edstem has good information about what will be on each test.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! One of the best professors I've had at Tech! Her lectures explain the concepts so thoroughly and accessibly, and I've never had physics taught to me as well as how she taught. If you get her, you'll still have to work hard, but you'll be well-equipped for the exams/finals if you put in the work to understand. :)
Not my direct prof. simply the coordinator however I will say, she genuinely loves her job. She subbed once for my section and I understood SO MUCH from her in that one lecture. Very responsive on Ed Discussion; I even asked her to create learning objectives for every weeks of the semester and she did! She really wants students to succeed.
She's the goat. Coming into Georgia Tech, I knew nothing about physics and was really worried for this course. Dr. Alicea was great, I feel like I now know physics on a high level and I was able to do well on the tests.
She's pretty funny and her lectures aren't hard to understand. Actual concepts are doable, but exams are HARD. The problems aren't like the ones you do in class, so do ALL the test practice for each concept. But, Dr. Alicia truly cares about the success of her students and she's very approachable!!
Dr. Alicea is hands-down the best PHYS 2211 prof you'll probably ever have at GT. She's amazing at going through key concepts and in-class problems (usually from old tests), making sure you truly understand how to solve everything STEP-BY-STEP. Her exams this sem were on the rough side but she is super accessible on Ed Stem and prepares you well!
díos mio my goat. if u are bad at physics and can't learn in these horrible 200+ person lectures for phys 2 i highly recommend watching her lectures. they are super thorough and she doesn't skip steps and verbalizes her work perfectly. i love her. wish i could've gotten an a but putting that on me and no fault of her. best resource here for gt phys
THE GOAT! Such engaging and easy to understand lectures. Cares about her students so much. At the end of the course, she literally individually reviews any borderline grades (ex: 89.45) to try and fairly bump up to the next letter grade, which tells you everything you need to know. Exam difficulty varies by unit, but partial credit carries.
Although I had a different instructor, I regularly attended Alicea's lectures because of her clear, structured teaching style. She explained each concept effectively, welcomed questions, and covered content efficiently without falling behind compared to other professors. I would highly recommend her for this course.
Dr. Alicea is the best professor I had at my first semester of Tech. Patient, thorough and witty, she professionally handled the fearsome Exam 3 (alien question, iykyk), giving transparency in how the question was vetted then working through the full solution during her lecture – made possible when she is always, without fail, ahead of schedule.
