She is hilarious. She was a bit unorganized, but I think it was because it was her first semester at CSUF. Her test seem pretty straight forward. I enjoyed her.
Class was boring at times. She does her best to keep it interesting. Showed some movies and video clips. Her lecture style isn't traditional so it IS important to attend class for tests. The assignments were pretty easy. Tests were all online. All she wants is for students to pass the class.
Interesting class, she tried her best to make the lectures interesting. Assingments are pretty easy and there are more than enough to get full credit. Tests are all online. Book was used for half of the semester. Non-traditional lecture style, so attendance is beneficial for tests. Talk her in person instead of through email.
Interesting class. Lectures do not always correlate with book, so attendance is recommended. Take detailed notes! Lots of media activity assignments to choose from. 4 online tests, drops lowest one. Overall, good class!
Attendance is useful. Tests are online, but don't let that fool you: they are difficult. Drops lowest test grade
Erickson's lecture style is very informal and laid back. Attendance is not mandatory. Test are 50% lecture 50% textbook. 4 tests, lowest one is dropped plus some easy media activities. I thought she was cool and pretty easy. I got an A. Her tests can be confusing but if you go to class and take good notes you are fine.
She is a VERY frazzled and unorganized professor. She often says she will add points to things for turning in assignments early and attnedance, but rarely follows through. And it might just be me, but it was near impossible to get ahold of her through email.
a cool teacher. grade based on reaching a point goal which is simple to do. gives lots of extra credit opportunities. make sure you take notes on everything she says because its usually on the test which are always online. jumps around a lot during lectures. overall easy class.
worst professor ive ever had, very very unorganized all over the place, doesnt give you details about assignments, lots of technological difficulties, tests are confusing and hard, not recommended
1 of the worst EVER! Highly unorganized. Difficult exams although she always said her exams were easy yet, most people got Cs or worse. Attendance is not mandatory but you better write down EVERYTHING she says if you want a passing grade. Would not recommend her to anyone.
Terrible
Really hard, test are impossible, super unorganized. If you want to pass don't take her.
Tests are hard to get over a C on, but she drops 1 test out of the 4. Gives you extra opp. to earn points on top of 50 pts EC avail. I got a D & 2 low C's on the tests, did all assignments(easy)& i was late everyday and missed like 9 participation forms and got an 83%, AND DONT have to take the final since she drops 1 test. EASY. DONT COMPLAIN.
Erickson is a very sarcastic, but interesting professor. The only hard thing about this course is the the difficulty of her online tests. It was impossible for me to score higher than a C on all 4 of them but I still managed to pass the class pretty easily by doing the homework assigned.
I just had Erickson for Comm Law over the 2010/2011 intersession. I did very well in this class. She tried very hard and was able to make the class interesting and fun. She is always willing to clarify and help out when someone does not understand something. If you just listen to her podcasts and take notes you are guaranteed A's on her quizzes.
This class can be easy or hard depending on how much effort you put in. If you show up to class, take good notes, and complete all the assignments it's impossible not to do well. The tests are on blackboard and there are no trick questions. I ended up with an A+ because I paid attention and did the work. She is funny and the class is entertaining.
Awesome teacher. I took her for 233 and liked her so much took her 407 class. 233 class just read the book and do the hw and you get an A. 407 was a bit harder. go to her office hours and she will make sure you pass with at least a C. I got an A in 233 and a B in 407. She is funny and tries hard to help anyone who seeks it.
She grades based on how many points you earn throughout the semester. Just do activities, like textbook or podcast ?'s, she gives you tons of opportunities to get points. The tests can be difficult but their all take home, go to class and take notes, you'll be fine. She drops lowest test grade. Overall great professor very interesting class!
really clear in the way she teaches. she drops lowest test grade, and offers A LOT of point opportunities, so leaving it all to the last few weeks will not really help you. makes class fun and sometimes makes class online. book NOT needed
She's an interesting and witty professor. She's well spoken both in volume and clarity so paying attention isn't hard at all. For Comm Law, there's weekly podcasts that you must watch with accompanying quizzes which are rather easy as long as you apply yourself. You get from this class what you put in. That being said, I'd take her again.
Great professor. Points based on hw and you can get extra credit. Tests are kinda hard, but if you take decent notes you will be fine. Entertaining class and hw is easy as well.
Easy class! dont need the book. definitely recommend
She doesn't use the book- don't buy it. Passionate about the subject, makes law fun and applicable. Open-door policy, always there to help you. Wonderful person, wonderful teacher. Don't know how people fail this class. Lots of relatively easy tests as long as you take notes. Podcasts for comprehensive study and review. No frills final. No midterm.
So when I walked into this class I had no idea what to expect, nor did I like what I saw at first. After the first few weeks I fell in love with media concepts because she made it so interesting and exciting with all the movies and relevant info! If you don't do well in this class, then you are just sad. Great professor.
Each Semester the class changes a little bit to keep up with the times. Her class was very fun to take. Didn't need a book at all. All Exams are online and drops the lowest. She curves exams and she acts more like a friend than a boring Professor. I'd take her again. She makes all the exams and sometimes her questions/choices are funny.
Erickson is a good professor. She actually WANTS you to learn, which is kind of annoying when you're in your last semester and just want to graduate. I've taken 12 online courses in the past, but hers is the most demanding. You won't get by just by memorizing info for tests. You have to KNOW it. It's challenging, but you will definitely learn.
Outstanding professor, Erickson loves her subject and presents the matter in the most relevant and interesting matters for students. This is college and the classwork is level for the criteria, her exams should not be taken likely and you should always keep your notes organized. She wants you to pass, so keep involved in the class and you will pass
This class isn't what you think. Her class is like an online class. We watch movies and podcasts, but i prefer listening to the professor. Her tests are extremely difficult, even though she drops the last one. Take her but its not easy, if you're not a comm major, take another GE!!! Too much work if its not your major.
I love professor Erickson, she makes the class fun with her quirky personality. Class is an easy 'A', but you must take good notes and watch all the videos and podcasts she assigns for the tests.
So I really enjoyed the class, half of the time we didn't have to come and just had to watch a documentary or some stuff she posts online and you turn almost all of your assignments online. However beware because a lot of students in my class were missing assignments that they had turned in. Plus it was almost impossible to reach her by email.
Great teach but you won't get by with guessing, you NEED to know the information.I had this class online and it was really hard because I couldn't speak with her in class and the test questions are really hard. There is a lot of work, but if you have the time put your all into it and you'll pass. She usually helps out with curves so it's nice.
She really is a cool prof. If you took her for 233 take her for 407. It overlaps alot! You can tell Comm Law is her passion. Her midterm and final you get to pick which questions you do. She also turned our class into a hybrid. Learned alot and really enjoyed her class!
Awesome teacher. You should definitely take her. She makes every topic interesting and invests alot of time into her powerpoints and class activities. Not an easy do-nothing-and-get-an-A type of class. You have to work hard, but it is worth the effort! I recommend taking her for both 233 and 407. Some information overlaps.
Such a fun and hilarious professor! Huge sense of humor, and is very knowledgeable about the topics we've gone over in regards to radio, TV, and film. A number of the meetings were online, so that was cool. Other than that, you really got nothing to lose just showing up during her lectures. Our "textbook" was Netflix & videos she posts on Titanium
Awesome professor! I had no interest in Comm Law before and now its super interesting to me. Teacher is super funny and fun in class. We had half online half in class -- worked really well to help understand the material. Midterm and final were not bad if you studied. She was super helpful with questions and made you want to learn Totally recommend
Erickson is, by far, the greatest comm teacher at csuf. She's incredibly inspiring and I love everything about her. You won't regret taking her class.
Comm law is no joke.Erickson does her best to make the class interesting/interactive. She she made it a hybrid class, which I don't really care for due to the disorganized fashion. We had quizzes once a week and our final was comprised of everything we learned. Surprisingly, it was easy. Go to class and take detailed notes, you'll be fine.
Erickson is still pretty new to teaching this class. She tries out a lot of new stuff, so not everything we did was great. She made the class very enjoyable with in-class discussions. We did a lot of work in this class. We read the book every week, listened to pod casts, had weekly quizzes, and worked on group wikis. Overall, it's an easy class.
She makes the class enjoyable and you don't even have to go to class every day. She makes a virtual class sometimes where you have to watch a documentary and take a quiz to get points. There are three exams and a final, but the final will replace the score of the lowest exam. You also don't have to do every single media activity.
After taking this class it solidified my desire to become a comm major. Even in a lecture size class Erickson was friendly and brought many comedic moments to the class. She makes the subject matter interesting and her use of multi-media enhanced the class. Plus, there is a "virtual class" about once a week where you just do online assignments.
She is very goofy and makes class fun :) there is no use of textbooks so that's a plus. She posts media activities every week along with a quiz but you don't have to do all of them, just make sure your points add up to 250. The final replaces the lowest test score, and all tests are online so you get to use notes! take her!!!!
Erickson is a FANTASTIC teacher. This is my second class with her and I got A's in both. She has an amazing sense of humor and she makes the class easy to understand with her podcasts/webcasts. This class is by no means easy; get a group to study with for the midterm and final and take THOROUGH notes throughout the semester and you will pass.
Erickson is by far one of my favorite professors. she is hilarious and makes everything interesting. be sure to take good detailed notes tho! everything she says is important. she posts media activities which are all interesting, and not all required, as long as your points = 250. there are 4 exams, and the lowest score is dropped, which is great
Very easy and interesting class. She's super nice and the only "textbook" you need is a netflix subscription. The tests are online and open book and she drops the lowest grade which is helpful. Fair professor and interesting class. If you can, take her!
Erickson is dope! Half the classes were cancelled. All of your work is done online, and you don't even have to do it all! 4 exams and 250 media activity points make up your grade. She drops your lowest exam. There's no textbook. Just make sure you take notes and understand the material posted online.
Erickson is awesome. Best teacher I have had at CSUF. It's difficult material but she is there to help every step of the way and time flies by in class because she makes it fun. Everyone in the class became friends because of her fun lessons. She makes it easy to succeed in a class with hard material.
This class was a hybrid between online and in person. I signed up for online, but she told us that we will only meet once a week instead of twice and that we will have online lectures&assignments to make up for those days. You get to chose which assignments you want to do because you max out at 250 & your lowest test score gets dropped.
Professor Erickson has a strange way of teaching. She has no organization and during her lectures she uses expletives and will purposefully try to embarrass you. She can be demeaning and also will throw tests at you on information that you have barely learned. This class was the worst class I had ever taken in my 5 years of college.
Does not say but it is a hybrid class which means you will only meet once for 1 hour and 15 min. She is a fun teacher that can keep your focus for the whole class. She uses a lot of online quizzes and drops your lowest exam grade. I just joined this class and I am excited to see what Erickson has in store.
she creates her own textbook that goes along with her lectures and your online assignments. The textbook runs about $50.00.The online assignments do become tedious but as long as you have 250 total media points you will be fine. Her Exams are HARD! She wants to make sure you are learning and writing pretty much everything down! Very humorous!!
She is a great professor! Her class is hybrid, we only met one day out of the week, which was really nice. She is responds fast to emails. If you just watch her videos and listen to the podcast, her class is easy. Just stay on top of everything, she grades on a curve too, so that is helpful.
Erickson is very disorganized when it comes to her study guides. I have no idea what to focus on when it comes to what is really going to be on the tests and you have to watch media activities of almost 3 hours in a couple of days on top of your other classes. Thought it would be a good and fun class, she's a cool teacher, but so confusing.
Awesome!!! The class is Hybrid course just so you know. She's totally cool! And the content itself is super interesting. A lot of online assignments, but it's a merciful class. Exams are tough so take detailed notes. Work hard and you'll be able to kick it for the last few weeks :)
Best professor at CSUF. I was worried to take this class in the beginning since it is a law class, but it was much easier than I expected and I learned so much. It's a great class and she really knows how to make it relevant and keep the class interested. Lectures are online and are very clear. Definitely take Erickson for your media law class.
Took this class online during intersession and it was intense (like all intersession classes), but Erickson makes the class SO MUCH FUN! Her online lectures are hilarious, yet helpful and relevant to today. She is great at responding to emails and quick to get back to you. Great class, even better teacher!
You have to watch soooo many podcasts-- very time consuming and detail-oriented but super great for open-booked tests as this is a hybrid class. She's pretty funny, which makes the class and podcasts enjoyable (sometimes). A lot of work, but if you do it, then quizzes are pretty easy. Test is a bit harder. Her 'workbook' is cheaper alternative.
A lot of podcasts and even she said the work load was heavy for a prereq. class. Seems nice, but kinda rude when you ask for help. Her lectures are super interesting though- makes it easy to come to class. Doesn't take attendance but it helps. Do her online assignments and you're golden!
AMAZING! Over summer it was A LOT but she was very clear about assignments, deadlines, and exactly what she was looking for. She was always reachable. Our virtual class meetings were always entertaining. But be prepared to do everything she tells you to do. She definitely put in the long hours that we did. Best teacher I had at CSUF. By far.
Provides lots of information. You'll have to study hard if you're not legally inclined. I took the in-person class but it was more like a lab because all the lectures were online. Save yourself the drive to school and take her online class, the material is the same and just as clear.
she is young, funny and loves modern technology. she records her own podcasts, has you watch hundreds of documentaries and do a quiz every 4 days. exams are online too. prepare to watch 2-3hr long docu's every week. interesting class and docu's at first, but gets tedious later. A LOT OF work and time investment. detailed lectureinfo will be in exam.
Took online, over winter (yikes!) but it actually turned out to be okay :) It comes down to about a half hour- 1.5 hours of your time a day, a few days there are documentaries to watch so obviously a little more time. There is a workbook that goes hand in hand with the material, YOU NEED IT, it helps so much. TESTS ARE TOUGH! She's awesome though.
Fun class to have in the mornings. You do a lot of online stuff and there are online quizzes every week on the online stuff you do. Pretty easy class. Very fun and chill professor. Would take her again. Really interesting material. She makes you buy a notebook she made herself specifically for that class $50, makes note-taking easier.
She asks questions that are incredibly subjective. One issue with her class that makes it difficult is that she is consistently moving all of the assignments around on the home page. Dr. Erickson will decide in the middle of class to estimate a statistic and then from that point on she will consider it a testable fact Would not take
This was a hybrid class. Not easy! I ended up dropping it. She gives a lot of work and I think the class is far more advanced than the 200 level but she is pretty clear on what she expects and sticks to the syllabus so just don't fall behind. She can be intimidating but I respect her as a teacher. She really knows her stuff and is very inspiring.
Best teacher I have ever had. She loves teaching and made the summer online class incredibly fun to take. You work really hard to get a good grade. I mean it, you are going to be putting in A LOT of time studying. It is SO worth it though! The test are fun and the final (although really tough) prepares you for the real world. Take her!
By far the best professor I've taken from @ CSUF. Concise, inspiring, engaging, passionate about the subject of communication law, and just plain fun. I think it's stupid that this site's "easiness" rating puts "makes you work for it" down at a two. In this class you work and you learn and that's a 5 in my book. Her workbook is extremely helpful.
This class should basically be an online course because the lectures are pretty pointless. Tests are extremely difficult but are online. Definitely have to work really hard for it being a 200 level course. Would not recommend Erickson for any course so take with another professor if you can!
This class was the hardest class I have ever taken. I never worked so hard in my life just to pass with a D. There's so much work required for this class. I had a full load of classes and I spent 90% of my time just on this class. Her notes aren't great and her midterm & final were worded so weird that I had to skip a couple cause I was so confused
I thought she was a great teacher and she was very enthusiastic about the class and made it fun but it was the hardest class I have ever taken. It wasn't that easy because she didn't give very good notes. Her midterm and final were unclear and had to give us a major curve because her questions were worded so weird and no one did well.
I was so nervous to take Erickson, but am so glad I did. I understand this stuff doesn't come easy to all, but she literally gives you every single possible tool to be successful. Do your work, go to class, and be attentive. It's much easier than you'll think. And super interesting!
If you want to have a life, DO NOT take her class. It takes hours to get through her assignments. Be prepared to spend your weekends listening to her podcasts and doing assignments. You've been warned.
Lectures and content are very interesting. The tests are REALLY hard, simply because of the way they are set up. They are multiple choice, online, and timed, but the options she gives are very confusing. She seems like a nice person and the class is entertaining.
She's a really chill (and young) teacher with interesting music tastes first of all. Class is pretty interesting - although it was a hybrid class with lots of screen-casts and online quizzes. I learned a lot of things about the media I didn't know before, thanks to her. The mandatory workbook has outlines for notes and it's really useful.
She's hilarious and very aware of memes and pop culture. Uses funny gifs on every quiz question. The material is EXTREMELY tough but she explains it in a way that is relatable and clear. However, I had to work so hard for this class. Make you sure take extremely detailed and long notes. Her quizzes are SO SPECIFIC.
Emily is an amazing professor. She's truly found her calling! Class is fun and not something to miss simply because it's a joy to be around her. I'm taking the half online/half in person class and it's perfect. The online stuff can be lengthy, but it's all entertaining and interesting. This will be your favorite class, even at 8AM!
Definitely my favorite class even at 830 am! It's half online so you meet like once a week and there's a lot of podcasts, documentaries, & quizzes online but the interesting material makes up for it. The book is a notetaking guide that helps. She's super cool, funny, and fresh! Tests are specific but she gives you all the tools you need to do well!
Pretty interesting class to take at 8:30am. Comm 233 hybrid class, so sometimes we didn't meet in person, and you have to watch a lot of videos on Titanium. Be sure to check Titanium/csuf email every day. Workbook based, no textbook. She drops the lowest exam score out of 4. Really chill; young, modern teacher.
She is amazing and will empower you but you have to work for it. I wish she taught all my classes and I'm really going to miss her class.
For a 200 class, unreasonably hard. My 300 and 400 classes were easier. It was very time consuming. She had us watch hours of videos for quizzes given online. If you don't watch them, forget about passing them and there are A LOT of quizzes. I found her a little unorganized because she would change the due dates all the time. Tests were difficult.
Prof. Ericsson is amazing! No question the subject matter isn't the easiest. However, if you stay on top of your lecture viewing and quiz taking you'll have no problem. With that said, it is a lot of work. Extremely beneficial in the real world and you'll feel accomplished when you're done with the class. Not an easy A class, time consuming.
She just gives so many quizzes(they are SO SPECIFIC. so you need to listen and write down every single word from every video you watch, which is alot!) She is really nice, funny, and understanding. Keep up with all the homework/quizzes, and try to do good on the tests. Some extra credit offered
Terrible professor. You learn a ton about Media & Society, but the way her quizzes and tests are laid out is unorganized and very specific. I'm more concerned about the actual effects that the media has on the public than the tiny unnecessary details she asks for in her quizzes. Hours of documentaries to watch for little stupid quizzes.
For a class not meant to be online she sure knows how to be lazy and set most of the class as an online base study, just waiting for the day she learns to teach and not give us all online based study, thanks miss
Erickson is funny and super relatable, she managed to make me want to attend an 8:30 a.m class. There are a lot of quizzes, watch everything and for the most part they're all super interesting and relate to the course. Attending class is important, because when I took good notes in class the tests were easier, but it'll help you understand more.
I wish I could be her friend outside of class! She is super cool, but is tough on grading. The quizzes in this class have tons of irrelevant questions, but I enjoy the content of the class overall.
I'm the type of person that has to check every single prof on here before enrolling. Erickson is SUPER cool. She's not one of those boring professors that just drags on and on. She makes class relatable and fun. This is class is not easy by any means but she tries her hardest to make it understandable and fun! TAKE HER! You won't regret it.
If you have 4+ classes and a job, you're going to struggle with all the time that's needed for this class. I took the hybrid and this was hands down the hardest class in my entire college career. You could have cheat sheets for tests and still not get a desirable grade. She means well, but just don't take her. Please.
Quizzes due pretty much every week, all online. Make sure to go to class since some quiz questions regard what was taught in person. She has her own kind of book she made that students purchase which helps with the quizzes and taking notes. Interesting class & would take again bc 830AM was doable since she's funny, nice, & straightforward
Professor Erickson is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are engaging and well thought out, she is humorous and explains everything eloquently. She created a notebook for students to take notes in for lectures and online homework to make not only note taking but studying a breeze. Super interesting material, she's the best!
If you want even a sliver of life, don't take Prof. Erickson. There is so much homework its unnecessary. Its unfortunate, Comm Law is so interesting but the amount of homework this class has just ruins it. Shes not funny. You will spend HOURS listening to pod casts and doing work. Even when you think you're done you're not. Just... no.
Professor Erickson is AMAZING!! You can tell how dedicated she is as a professor by her very detailed, clean, and funny screencast. The textbook required is a workbook which is inexpensive. There is a lot of work assigned but it is 100% relevant. Take her class! You'll feel like a comm law expert.
Professor Erickson is truly amazing! Sure, she makes you work for your grade, but she definitely "dummy-proofs" the class for you. I must admit, there is a lot of work required to pass the class, but you definitely learn while completing each assignment. I am a full time student with a job, and I was able to make time to finish most assignments.
Okay so let me be very straight forward. EE is an AMAZING professor and truly loves her job. HOWEVER, this is the most difficult online class I've ever taken. She requires so much homework and online lectures to listen to. I work and go to school and this class was SO time consuming. You HAVE to watch her lectures or you will completely fail.
Prof. Erickson is the BEST professor I have ever had, which really says something since I took this class online. But beware, this class requires a TON of work and time. By far the most work I've ever done for a class, but you learn like crazy. If you want to learn a lot and have a decent time doing it, take prof. Erickson. Want an easy A? Avoid
Professor Erickson, hands down, was one of the most difficult professor's I've ever had and the best. I had her for COMM233 and COMM 410. 90% of my time outside of class was spent working on her lectures, homework and quizzes but it was well worth it. She is insanely knowledgeable and funny. Best class ever! I am no longer a dumb person. Lol!
Took this class in the online 5 week format. Let me just say the martial itself isn't that difficult to learn IF you watch all of her lectures. Do not attmpt this class if your not willing to put in the time. Her quizzes are based all on her lectures take notes and you will be totally fine. EE is one of the funniest professors! Seriously take her!
She's a tough grader and we had quizzes on long videos every week. But she is a good teacher she tries to make sure that you understand it. Very detailed and its clear she likes teaching. Make sure you take her quizzes and pay attention to the videos closely.
Very hard exams. If you don't go to class or take notes, you won't pass. Her exams are very long worded questions with sometimes having 7 questions and answers in 1 question. She gave a 30 question exam and we had 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete. And I didn't finish....
This class is a lot of work but it's not necessarily difficult. Her workbook is really helpful to understand with charts, videos, etc. She's very approachable to ask questions and goes the extra mile to make things clear. There were a few live lectures she lets you know of ahead of time. Fun and interesting class even if you find law to be boring!
Love her! Im in her online class so Ive never got to meet her but her lecture videos are so awesome. She is the best teacher Ive had at CSUF so far. Definitely recommend her! Shes funny and real and likes to cuss sometimes haha
Erickson is a really great professor! She's super sweet and cares about her students. Lectures are boring but she makes them fun. She provides a workbook to follow with everything you need for the semester. This class altogether was super interesting and a work load, but you really learn a lot! Would definitely take Erickson again!
This is one of those profs that tries too hard to be cool. While the effort to be relevant is much appreciated, the quality of her screencasts were sub-par. Since it's a discussion and not a lecture class, you have to rely on the material she covers in these bad-audio vids. Bonus points for the cheap textbook! Please tweak your screencasts!
Prof Erickson is AMAZING. Although the class is a ton of work (probably hours a week), and you have to really listen to the screencasts and take great notes, it was so worth it. She is really funny and relatable and makes a subject that could be boring actually really interesting! Just do the homework, go to class, take notes - and you'll pass.
Lecture screencasts with everything explained really well. A lot of assignments in this class that are really time consuming. Once in a while there's a 70 min virtual session where participation matters. Exams are MC and short answers. Final is cumulative. This is a law class, so also know your court cases.
You have to sit through bad videos she makes because she doesn't really lecture in class. No powerpoints, no textbook, all her material is based off the videos. If you want to study for the the midterms or final you have to sit through the videos again. She also talks about Trump way too much. It's annoying, unproffesional, & distracting.
This class consists of assignments-watching videos and taking a quiz right after & online tests. She tests you on little things so you really have to pay attention to what she's saying in lecture and on her screencasts. I found the class easy but time-consuming. I recommend writing down everything she says because that's your best way of passing.
She's a great professor. Super fair, and straight to the point. All assignments are online quizzes/videos.
She is a great professor, although, her lectures can be slightly boring. All quizzes and tests are online which was great :)
(Summer online) The class is not difficult but it requires that you dedicate A LOT of time, I would spend like 3-6 hours a day but maybe its different during the semester. She uses a lot of memes and really knows what she's talking about and tries to make her screen casts as interesting as possible. Use colored pens for workbook notes, it'll help!
She definitely knows what she is doing when it comes to teaching COMM law. My only gripe is that if you do not buy her book that SHE WROTE, you will not pass the class. She makes it so material that could easily be given to you over Titanium is only available if you buy her book to fatten her pocket. If you don't care about that, she's great.
WOW this teacher wants 50 hours of work for you to do each work. So many lectures, a book that SHE made to make money and you must get it. This class is the most workload I've ever had in college thus far. Ridiculous, seems like you're always working on her lectures and work. You learn the material, but the HOURS PUT IN is insane.
I loved this class. Super interesting material, but there are LOTS of quizzes on little things. Probably have 1-2 online quizzes per week--on in-class lectures and screencasts. 3 tests overall, and you have to have taken thorough notes to get a good grade.
Erickson's lectures are probably some of the funniest lectures I've attended. She's very honest & cracks a lot of jokes. She's very open to student feedback and her lectures are very up to date with today's media. As long as you go to the lectures, take decent notes, watch the videos and take quizzes on time, there's no reason why you wouldn't pass
Beware. This class involves a ton of work outside of class. Its designed as a hybrid even though its labeled as a reg 3hr class. You watch lecture videos, take notes, then take a quiz. You meet in class to have a discussion. I loved this class and this prof is literally amazing, but its a lot of work. She canceled about 4 classes though .. lol
She knows her stuff and there are some interesting lectures which she gets very into but you have to take a lot of quizzes. All quizzes and exams are online and quizzes are typically on videos or podcasts that are really long so you better have some free time on weekends to do her assignments. Overall I liked the course, its just a lot of work
Professor Erickson is probably the best, down-to-earth, charismatic professor at CSUF. She made the subject of communications law (difficult and boring subject) into something enjoyable and understandable. She never holds back on using curse words or modern-day text language to explain a concept. Also, she gives multiple tries on quizzes.
I excel in online classes, but this one requires hours of watching lectures and so far one of the worst ones I have ever taken. She cusses in lectures and uses memes to be "relatable", but it comes off cringey. If you miss one little detail on the notes you are screwed for the quiz.
Hands down the best comm professor at csuf. lots of lectures and quizzes but they're all relatively easy and she gives u multiple tries. she keeps things interesting and fun and truly cares for her students. super organized and updates titanium every week and genuinely wants u to pass, you will not regret taking her class!
LOTS of quizzes on pointless material. Was very nice and supportive of commentary! Drops 6 quizzes and easy A. Didn't show up for class, but still got an A. Interesting topics, but lectures are dry. Take her if you want an Easy A, but beware long podcasts on the weekends.
Erickson's probably one of the best professors I've ever had but yes, this class is a lot of time-consuming work. However, I learned SO much and wish I could take more classes with her despite the workload. If you're looking for an easy A take someone else for 407, but I would really recommend Erickson.
Professor Erickson has been the best professor I've had at CSUF. This was my second time taking a class with her and she never failed to make it interesting. COMM Law in general can be a boring subject but she made it very fun and simple. Some words of advice: Do the work, take notes, and participate in EVERY forum.
Emily made communications law into an enjoyable subject. You need to watch all the videos and buy her textbook to pass the class. Lots of quizzes but you can re-take multiple times. Exams are easy if you know what to study. Difficult at first, but MAKE SURE you work ahead so you don't get overwhelmed. Fun class but lots of work!
Erickson made a difficult subject much easier to understand. I actually ENJOYED her online lectures cause she's hilarious! If you need to take COMM LAW, I highly recommend you take her online class, I swear you will not regret it.
The first half of the semester, there is a ton of work. At times it was hard to balance the amount of work due in a week along with 4 other classes plus work. The amount of work due some weeks needs to be reduced because it was too excessive since the notes take forever. Notes can take up to 2 hours per topic. You learn alot but it's NOT easy.
Professor Erickson was amazing! I took her for Summer school and yeah its intense but she make its fun and has her own easy to use notebook that you buy! she provides all the readings and online videos. I highly suggest taking her class! She is hilarious, understanding, and tries to make Law fun! I somehow got an A in her class, she makes doable!
Prof Erickson is the best! Media law on its own is heavy content, but she will make you love it! She is passionate and cares for her students success
She is super nice and likes to stay on trend with whatever her students are into which is fun to educate her. Despite her great personality the course in it self is a bit hard and she is a tough grader when it comes to her tests. She also gives lots of video homework however you can tell she puts in a lot of time making them.
E is one of, if not the best professor I have ever had at CSUF. Her in person lectures are fun and so informative. Homework is simple and is really just helping you understand the basic class concepts before she goes in depth. Even with the transition to online due to COVID, she never stopped being amazing and teaching to her full ability.
EE is an amazing teacher I honestly enjoyed her as a teacher and the content discussed in class. The only homework you have is watching documentaries or screencast, 80% of them were interesting. The only downside are how long some of them can be. She was so supportive during COVID! if you can take her class !!
EE's amazing! She drops a couple of everyone's lowest grades in the class which helps your grade a lot. She makes this class fun/interesting. The homework is usually videos that you watch and then take a little quiz on but they're super easy and actually interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but you shouldn't miss if you want a good grade!
She's very understanding. Also, she is by far one of the most organized when it comes to online courses. Very funny and have thoroughly enjoyed her class. She allows you enough time to learn material and sometime it is hard to grasp. As long as you check in with her screen casts and focus a bit on them you'll pass.
So far one of the best professors Ive had. I took Professor Erickson Spring 20 and was the one of the only professors that helped make the online transition easier for us.
Her lectures are amazing and very easy to follow. She puts a lot of effort and very passionate about what she teach. Erikson is also very understanding and caring, so you don't have to worry about not able to pass. Unless you did not do anything, then you can pass the class with an A.
Covid edition: Prof. Erickson is extremely endearing & knowledgable & makes comm law easy to understand. She has a cheap workbook for $60 & that's the only thing you buy for the semester. She has weekly quizzes but if you watch the lectures & try your best, you'll be just fine. She gives 3 attempts on the quizzes usually and takes the avg.
I took her hybrid COMM Law class. I only showed up to class the first month. I realized her lectures were just reviews of that weeks online lecture. She randomly gives extra credit for showing up to class. However she is amazing professor, and if I didnt have to work till 3am every day, I would show up to her class every morning.
Professor Erickson is an extremely caring professor amid the pandemic and even prior. This is my second time taking her, and I will say that she does cover a lot of material, so be prepared for homework; however, I gained so much from her course it makes it worth it. Make your tuition money worth it and take comm Law with her!
Professor Erickson is so caring and understanding towards students. She really helps everyone. During COVID-19, she gave lots of second chances and just overall a great person.
EE is the most amazing professor ever! I was extremely nervous about this class but she made it so easy to understand and is always willing to help. Grades fairly, genuinely cares about her students, and responds to emails very quickly. Must get the workbook and watch the lectures (aka "screen casts"). Getting an A is very manageable.
EE was the best professor Ive taken at CSUF. She is so kind and really cares about her students understanding the information. She made the class really interesting and always made our zoom meetings so much fun!
Emily is honestly the worst professor I have ever had. She talks inappropriately to relate to students which was funny at first but got old fast. She constantly acts like she is the cool professor. She gives at least 10 hours of homework a week and, 1-2 quizzes or tests a week. Every time you get a problem wrong she makes you feel like an idiot.
Professor Erickson is hands down one of the worst professors I've ever had. She tries to act like a young and relatable teacher but it just comes off as weird and uncomfortable. She loves to lecture and will even keep you after the class is over. Be ready to do a lot of homework and not get any help because all she says is check your notes
EEs lectures are prerecorded so I recommend speeding them up to your preferences and quizzes can be taken up to 3 times. While her zoom lectures tend to go over the time limit, its usually because shes responding to students questions and concerns. Overall, shes able to rejuvenate a mundane subject like Comm Law while remaining lenient!
Erickson is the best professor that I have ever had. I took her online Winter '21 and she has such a structured online class that made it extremely easy to follow along. I never knew law would be fun to learn until her! Do yourself a favor and take Comm Law!
I took this class online in the winter of 2021, so it was fully online. Professor Erikson did an exceptional job ensuring that we all knew exactly what to do each day of the course. I always knew exactly what to do, and I learned a great deal about Communication Law from the coursework.
A very engaging professor who really cares about her students. She would change things up to make sure we succeed, like giving us days off when possible. One of the most relatable professors I have had.
Prof Erickson is awesome! I took her fast track Comm Law class and though it was intense, it was very enjoyable and she was very considerate. I find her teaching approach relatable and I felt she made it easier to understand the lectures. Can't say enough good things about her!
Professor Erickson is by far the BEST educator I've had at CSUF. Her material and lectures and engaging and to the point, not to mention how accommodating she was during the midst of a pandemic. If you're planning on taking Comm Law, take it with her!
Okay I was really terrified to take Comm Law. I'd heard all bad about this class. I decided to take EE through open university and wow it was such a good call! She is kind, caring, and really passionate about what she does. She wants you to pass the class and learn the stuff. It was stressful to take at x4 speed for Winter. SHE is awesome, TAKE HER
Literallly My fav professor I've had at CSUF. Such a gem. Our classes are the most entertaining and interesting. I look forward to class every week!
she makes the class so fun and interesting. this class is an easy A!!
She's absolutely the best. I don't even understand why she would have anything under 5 stars.. The moment you take her class, you will be able to tell that she actually cares about her class and her students. She always makes sure that everyone's on the same page and she's also very lenient and reasonable as well. I always looked forward to it
Professor Erickson's course was a breath of fresh air in the 2020-2021 world of virtual coursework. Her Zoom lectures were engaging and fascinating. She will 100% go off on some media tangent and it will be hilarious. Get ready to take a ton of notes, but the workload will be manageable. I have learned so much in this course. Erickson's the best!
I cant say enough about how much I love EE. She is one of the most entertaining professors. Despite our long tangents, I learned sooo much.
Professor Erickson is easily the best professor I've ever had! She's extremely knowledgeable, hilarious, easy going and understanding. She truly truly cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. This class is not hard at all just attend class, do the assignments on time and you should be fine. 11/10 would recommend.
shes amazing take her!! had her for a GE class, total gem!!
I love EE
She is the most accomodating profs I think I've ever had. If you need to take a class for any reason, take it with Prof Erickson!!
One of the best professors! She's so sweet and her lectures are so creative and very informative. We did quizzes based on documentaries, podcasts, screencasts etc that we needed to watch but nothing difficult. She understood us so well and never wanted to stress us out. She's so funny and was always in the best mood! Definitely take her guys!
OMGG professor Erikson! She's so caring and adorable. She really wants her students to pass. We had to buy a workbook which was only used to take notes so don't worry too much about it. Very easy class, highly recommend her. She really passionate about helping students! Take her you won't regret it!
Amazing professor. She really cares about the wellbeing of her students and wants everyone to succeed. We've all been facing a lot of stress over the past year, with COVID and other classes in general, and she understands that and adjusts her class in order to make things a little bit easier. Her zoom meetings were actually fun too.
I love EE, she's funny and the assignments are always super easy and understandable. She dropped the lowest grade in each section to help us, and overall listens to her students
There can be a lot of hw sometimes but she's very kind and helpful. She also drops some of your lowest quizzes/hw scores. Overall she has a great way of teaching and you learn a lot!
Professor Erickson was by far one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Easy class and materials but tries way too hard to be funny/relatable while wasting time in class. I don't recommend taking her if you want to be drowned in hw and tested on random things she says in class that aren't course related. She wants you to fail so avoid this class :)
Sad to say this class sucked. I heard it was fun but she sucked the life out of it with all the hw and lectures she gives. She has no concept of students being in other classes, not just hers. She cusses and make things really awkward to be relatable in lectures and in class. Also don't expect her to help whenever you're confused, she won't.
Very good class!! I recommend her, she's very understanding and reopens quizzes if you ask + removes lowest score in each section. She really wants everyone to pass so pls take her
I am taking her for summer. She is one of the best Professors for comm 407 Law. She is genuinely helpful, and wants you to learn and pass. She also has quizzes that are 2 questions and 10 minutes that are super understanding and easy if you watched the videos she provides in the modules.
Erickson was the best!!!! I took her Comm. 407 summer class which was 5 weeks so it was extremely fast-paced, but did an amazing good job at making her students feel confident about the course. She's makes this course so interesting and teaches comm law in a simplified way that was easy to understand. If you have the chance to take her class, do!
I took comm law, which is COMM407, this summer. The course is face paced but EE keeps her students focused and confident. She really knows what she is talking about and she makes the class very enjoyable and interesting. Take her!!!
She is nice, BUT she makes the material way too confusing. You are bombarded with a lot of quizzes and she expects you to just know what certain things are. Its boring and hard.
Its not fair how she's the only teacher teaching this class. She doesn't make sense. Your taking this class online and you have to meet, but she doesn't teach you anything. Then you have to go in your own time to watch her super outdated lecture videos. People want class because they need help, but she doesn't seem to care. No speaking is allowed
I recommend taking Erikson from COMM 407. The class material is very challenging and naturally seems overwhelming, but Erickson's provides great screencasts to teach the material. There are quizzes every week but easy as long as you watch the material. Make sure you are prepared to put work into the class. It takes a lot of time and effort.
If you need to take this class, take this professor. One of the best experiences I've had in my college career.
NO TEXTBOOK! She has a workbook and it's worth the money. Prof Erickson posts her multimedia screencasts before class meetings, which I found helped me understand the material better. If you actually do the assignments you won't have to do much studying for the 2 exams. Loose on deadlines and gives less hw towards end if semester.
She's absolutely hilarious and incredibly caring for her students. She's beyond intelligent and constantly makes her classes as enjoyable as can be. Considering such material from her class, she always made it fascinating.
Professor Emily Erickson has mastered online education and online teaching. She's very clear of what she expects of her you, presents all the work for you, and also helps you along the way, especially for a class that is labor intensive and requires a lot of critical thinking. It's a hard class, but be patient. You'll get it! BEST COMM LAW PROF.
EE is so understanding and tries her best to make things as simple as possible for her students while still making sure we are learning. There are weekly assignments (written scenarios and quizzes) that are straightforward. You get a cheat sheet for midterm and final. The final is cumulative. Her workbook is helpful. She is great at explaining!
This professor is probably one of the worst that I had taken here at CSUF. The class itself is very challenging but it doesn't help to have a professor that doesn't explain much in anything she does. If you're someone who is not the best at teaching yourself the subject then this professor is not for you. Class participation is required. dont take!
Amazing professor! I look forward to lectures. She is very understanding of our schedule, and she also encourages us to succeed. Her videos are very helpful and lectures help retain knowledge. You buy a workbook, but it is very helpful. Lots of videos to get through and it is a good amount of work, but the class is enjoyable and you will learn!
She is very understanding and caring of students, she tries to relate class content to what is happening today. She's also hilarious and lectures are never boring! I always enjoyed her class. No textbook required, but the workbook is very helpful and 100% worth it. Would definitely take her again!
EE is a chill and caring professor! She is very passionate about COMM Law, but the workload is challenging. You have to watch boring lectures to do some pretty difficult quizzes, scenarios, and other assignments. You have a midterm and a final, which is cumulative. She made some assignments optional and also dropped some. She wants you to pass.
She was absolutely amazing!! Considering I was terrified of this class (Comm Law) I found myself being so confident in my knowledge of the subject. She lays her class out very clearly and makes it so that it's hard for you not to do well as long as you do the work. You get a help sheet on the Midterm and Final and she simplifies everything! 100/10
Professor Erickson is so caring and truly tries to listen to what her students need. She moved our 8:30 am class to zoom for the rest of the semester since she realized not many students were showing up in person. She is great at lecturing and always jokes around to make the class more lively. Only midterm and final!
Lot's of videos to watch and homework/quizzes to take, but they aren't hard just time-consuming. She is hilarious and easy to talk to. Takes a while to answer emails back. The lectures aren't always structured well and she gets off topic along with everyone in class now and then, but it kind of helps, for sure her assignments are easy to follow.
Prof Erickson was my favorite professor. Get ready to watch a lot of movies and them having quizzes while watching them, so pay attention!!, read and listen to the podcasts! Overall Emily's class was great; We love her! All homework is online; just pay attention to the lectures! The final and midterm are long but not too hard they are also online.
I love this professor. She is so cool, understanding, and educational. I loved this class is was super interesting. The music and movie sections and learning about those industries was so cool. I am actually taking another class of hers next semester. I would definitely recommend her.
the exams and course material for this class aren't too difficult. however, there is TONS of homework and lecture material, so don't let those deadlines sneak up on you. most of her assignments are filled with gifs and memes which made them extremely distracting. I always got the vibe she was trying too hard to show the class how 'hip' she was.
Extremely liberal and makes conservatives feel bad. this should not be allowed in school. politics have no business being part of school, and if they have to then the students should not be able to tell your view on them.
Such a fun class and very easy to pass the only homework you really get is watching videos and answering questions as it plays she's very funny and always has a funny story to tell
Great professor, take her for your 233 and 407. She is super cool and makes class really fun with discussions.
Good professor, everything is set up for you to succeed in this class. One thing I will say is that she non stop talks about her hatred of Trump and the class itself is very focused on her personal feelings about politics. She tends to take up most time talking about her political views and hatred of the right rather than teaching the content.
I love Prof. Erickson! She is super smart and helpful and will take time to make sure you understand the material. She's very funny and super kind. She genuinely is passionate about the subject matter at hand, and really interesting to hear from. Her material is easy to understand, and if you notice, even her low reviewers still got As.
Great and easy professor. Her lectures are fun and interesting. The assingments in the class are very easy, most of them are interactive videos where you just answer questions. I would 100% recommend her class.
Her class consists of pre-recorded lectures every week and then we met to discuss the key points. She has a workbook that compliments the class. We had about 3-5 assignments per week but honestly maybe took about 2-3 hours to complete. No other reading. If you take her, make sure you rewatch her recorded lectures before the midterm/final. :)
EE is a very fun professor. she assigns a lot of hw so make sure you dedicate at least one day to tackle all her assignments. although assignment heavy, she's super chill and she appreciates her students, so it makes up for her hw load. class participation is required. exams were average, she allows open book and u create ur own study guide.
Professor Erickson runs a well-structured online course. Lots of assignments, but she provides helpful resources like a workbook and cheat sheets. For study prep, I found unstuck AI and ChatGPT really useful.
LOVED HER! she truly cares for her students and their well being. is very understanding with assignments and workload. lectures were fun and interesting. best professor ever. teaching style is perfect for me and is easy to communicate with.
This is an extremely hard class, but she does her very best to explain and make sure students understand. However, this was a subject that just did not come to me. LOTS of assignments. Requires a $65 workbook to be bought.
This was my favorite class even though it was a difficult one. Some people compain about her being too liberal but if that bothers you then take it with someone else. lmao We did weekly quizzes so that could be a bit heavy on the workload. Her husband also teaches this subject and Professor Ozminkowski (also recommend). Take her! She's the coolest!
Loved her. Engaging and empathetic. Her participation is commenting 10 times in her zoom lectures. Homework can be a lot at times but it is pretty easy. Failed midterm and my final wasn't the greatest either but I still passed. Didn't buy textbook, survived. Go to class for homework assignments. Write notes even when she says not too. Fun class!!
She was wonderful! Lectures were fun and engaging, super relevant. You can tell she cares for her students in and outside the classroom. If you're in an online class, make sure that you comment 10+ times! I got lazy after some time and stopped commenting and then at the last minute, my grade dropped :( Overall she's a wonderful professor though!
She's the best and funny. She's understanding and puts a lot of care into her work. There is a lot of work but I can't even complain because some of the work is interesting to me personally. But as a professor and person she's amazing!
loved her! she's so nice and funny and made class really fun + interesting. she's very understanding and easy to reach out to. there is a lot of hw but as long as you stay on top of it you'll be fine.
One of the best professors I ever had. Literally she is in my top 5. She really cares about her students learning, understanding, and their mental health. She goes above and beyond! Work isn't that hard as long as you show up for class and classes are fun with her. No writing assignments mostly just quizzes and exam for midterm and final.
EE was very funny and I expected to hate my life in COMM LAW due to the workload but she made it fun and manageable. Gets A LOT easier in the 2nd half of semester. Lowkey the lecture could be 20 min but there is a lot of small talk which makes the class longer than it needs to be. Overall a nice experience.
I felt intimidated taking this class (Spring 2025) due to the overload of information. At times, the prof's teaching felt a bit all over the place. The key is to take good, organized notes to help when doing assignments & preparing for tests. Other than that, this prof is fantastic. You'll be in good hands, trust :) It gets easier towards the end
EE is a great professor, her lectures are funny and engaging. Homework is also super easy as long as you follow directions properly. Sometimes her lectures could be a bit shorter, but she's great whatsoever. She also allows a cheatsheet for the midterm!!
Comm law sounds absolutely terrifying but it ended up being one of my favorite classes because of Erickson. She's knowledgeable/passionate about the material and will bring up current events and talk on how they apply to the topics. Super funny and has a great classroom environment. There is a lot of flowcharts but they get easier towards the end!
