She is crystal clear in explanations but her class requires you to do a lot of homework and a lot of studying. She puts forth a lot of effort to make sure you are understanding and so long as you are working hard in the class, you will do fine.
She does not teach clearoly, doesn't help during her office hours, doesn't care about your comments and she struggles to help students who don't understand. It is very difficult learning from her.
She is very clear and give handouts during class to help you practice and understand material. Study and practice and youll do fine. Her testing isnt completely MC but everything comes from material covered in class. 3 tests one final lowest score dropped or half of final.7 quizzes 2 lowest drop.No mandatory hw but suggested.Wish she teached 2046.
Dr. Heider is an awesome professor. I truly enjoyed coming to class. Though chemistry is a difficult subject, she provides examples and works them out for you to understand. She hands out worksheets with problems that oftentimes show up on quizzes or tests. Test and quiz grades are exactly like below. They're challenging but doable and passable.
Great professor! Gives worksheets out every class that are REALLY HELPFUL! Must study for exams, which are multiple choice. Weekly quizzes in discussion class, but not that hard. Definitely a manageable class. If you put the effort into it, you'll get an A.
I loved Dr. Heider! Wish she taught Chem2. She makes lecture interesting, provides a lot of study aids (we get worksheets every class, quizzes every week or so, optional homework, etc), and she's a very sweet woman. Makes jokes during lecture, keeps us engaged. Take her!!!
Emily Heider was a really good professor. She taught in a way in which she tried to simplify everything and help you understand it. The class wasn't too hard but not that easy either. You definitely have to put in some effort but it's not too bad either. An A is definitely possible! Oh and YOU WANT TO GO TO CLASS!
Phenomenal professor and very engaging. The class is not an easy A, mind you, but if you attend class and put in a little effort you can certainly do well. I would definitely recommend her.
This is the best professor I have encountered so far at UCF. Tests and quizzes are pretty tough but if you study you should be OK. The class is a hard A, an easy B, and a very easy C. TAKE HER.
I have nothing bad to say about this professor. To do well, simply study hard for the tests and quizzes. An A is attainable if you put in serious effort. Tests and quizzes are very fair. Thank you Dr. Heider! You were great :)
Dr. Heider is amazing! She explains Chemistry clearly, she's funny, and she gives handouts and worksheets every class to reinforce concepts. An A is definitely possible, with hard work. Quizzes and tests are challenging, but fair. If you're serious about learning Chemistry, do yourself a favor and take this class!
Fantastic professor. Probably the best I have had in my two years at UCF so far! Emailed her and got a response in about 2 minutes. She is really funny and truly cares about her students. I enjoyed this class and you probably will too.
Dr. Heider is the best! I took this class before with another professor and failed, but Heider takes the time to explain everything clearly and even walks around when we are doing worksheets so that she can help us. She is a wonderful professor, TAKE HER! I wish she taught Chem 2!
Well I retook this class. Originally took it at VCC. I got a better grade than I did at VCC but it was a more conceptual class vs. an actual problem solving class. To do well, do your HW, do well on quizzes (don't miss any) & do well on exams. An A is a 93 which is stupid so don't slack and you will be okay.
Interesting professor, great sense of humour, I didn't like the discussion TA's, but she was great
Dr. Heider is a wonderful professor! Her lectures are interesting and she provides a course pack that really does help you understand the material. If you go to class, do the homework, and put in some study time, you will be fine in the class. DEFINITELY take her :)
Her lectures are super interesting and tests are fair. She makes class exciting with videos and experiments. Definitely take her!!
Dr Heider is an outstanding professor. She makes the material easy to understand. The material is tough but come to lecture, study for the 7 quizzes and 4 exams and you will do fine. She is also extremely good looking which makes coming to class a pleasure.
Dr Heider is awesome. She lectures extremely well, knows her stuff and makes the class interesting and fun. Come to lecture, study hard for the 7 quizzes that prepare you for the 4 exams and you will do well. Th book is great and Dr Heider makes it easy to understand. She is also BEAUTIFUL which makes coming to class a pleasure.
GREAT professor. Easy to understand. I never once had to open my book and am looking at making an A. Chm is not an easy subject so make sure you know which study methods work best for you. STUDY for the quizzes they are worth 1 test grade which helps a lot. she is the most clear and concise chm prof I have even had the pleasure of having.
She is wonderful. Cares about students learning experience even in a huge lecture. Tests are fair but do require preparation. Drops alot of low scores. Easy and comfortable to approach. She is a great assest to UCF's teaching staff!
Absolutely great professor. Textbook recommended, but not mandatory. Make sure to go to class even though it isn't required, because it is interesting to go to and makes studying for her exams a lot easier.
Dr. Heider is a great professor and really breaks the material down and makes it easy to understand. She is clear, concise and straight to the point and grades very fair.
Great professor! makes chem as easy as possible! lots of hw, not mandatory to do, but helps A LOT for understanding! definitely do the HW and you should be fine on the tests if you understand the HW. She lectures and does practice problems in class making it very helpful to get an idea of what to do. Very helpful if you have questions
I just received my grade from her. Sadly I got a B. She's awesome as a professor but chemistry itself is really hard. Make sure you do well on everything; if you have an 89.999999 on the class she's not going to curve it. You'd think it would be comprehensible to get an A with that grade, but I guess she's not that reasonable.
Dr. Heider does well at explaining the material but does not offer extra credit, nor curves and if you are .1 away from the grade you want she will not round up. The way she asks some of the questions do not make sense and she only has 2 office hours a week. I would not take her again. If you do take her and have not take AP Chemistry, go to class!
She moves too fast in lecture. You'll be learning chapter 4 but being tested on chapter 2. Must go to class and do all homework to get an A. Definitely need the textbook.
She is possibly the best Chem1 teacher out there! Take it with her if you can! Buy the coursepack, a bunch of worksheets that you do together in class. It is very helpful for learning and studying the material. However, there are not that many grades in this class. If you have test anxiety, this class might trouble you.
Dr. Heider is a great professor. Class time is split between lecturing and doing worksheets from the coursepack which are very helpful! This class moves fast and the tests are difficult. Use the book and always do the homework and you will get a good grade. Dr. Heider does not curve or round any grades so don't expect an 89.9 to get you an A.
Heider is a very good professor. ALthough she doesn't have many office hours, her TAs seemed to be very helpful. If you pay attention and do the practice problems she provides, the test will be easier for you. BUY THE COURSEPACK. Every lecture she does a page or 2 with the class and it makes understanding the material a lot easier.
Dr. Heider is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She is very willing to help anytime you need it and is so insightful. I seriously consider her a super power. The class is difficult at times but Dr. Heider is very willing to help during class and during office hours. If you decide to take Chemistry 1 take it with Dr. Heider. She's fantastic.
She was a great teacher. All her lectures were put up online. I almost never had to use the textbook (only on occasion to study for an exam). She drops 2 of your 7 quizzes, and 1 of your 3 exams. Awesome teacher!
Professor Heider is very clear in what she expects and is extremely helpful during lecture. The discussion sessions and lectures are not mandatory; however, quizzes are usually assigned during discussion sessions every other week. I loved her class, and usually studied from the power points she posts on webcourses.
Awesome teacher! Really learned a lot in her class. I could've gotten an A instead of a B if I studied harder. If you have to take chemistry, definitely take it with her!
Dr. Heider is a wonderful professor. She explains everything so clearly, she gives in-class examples of the chemistry you are learning, and she is so funny! I have a new found appreciation for chemistry because of her class. Her exams and quizzes are very straightforward. I wish she taught Chem 2!
Dr. Heider's a pretty good professor. Her lectures are PowerPoints based off the book. She puts them online so you don't have to attend class. Aside from taking notes, you do worksheets from the course pack. I got a 95 on all three tests and failed the final, which was unnecessarily hard, so I got a B. Study 2-3 hours per week and you'll be fine.
She is very helpful with her illustrations. If you want to get a comfortable A in her class, make sure you follow each lectures. Tests are easy but some require thinking. She also has some cool experiments and guide that make you want to participate. Take this class if you are willing to work hard.
You should atleast get a B or A if you have a good background in chemistry and you study to refresh. I took chm2040 twice at ucf. got an A the second time then 2041 was full so I just took 2045. Do all the homework for practice and understand each problem. I highly recommend going to class, doing the homework and go to SI.I got a B.
Awesome sense of humor and is great at explaining lessons. I would have probably gotten an A if I would have applied myself more. Oh well. Chemistry is hard but she is very helpful and there are plenty of ways to get help understanding the concepts. I wish she taught Chem 2.
Another Teach Yourself Class! Even if you have an A pretty much everyone fails the final and you will end up with a B. I did not like her teaching style. She was pregnant and moody when I had her though so it might have changed.
Another Teach Yourself Class! Even if you have an A pretty much everyone fails the final and you will end up with a B. I did not like her teaching style. It was as if she did not want to be there. I got As in all my other classes besides hers. She was pregnant and moody when I had her though so it might have changed.
Read and reread the book because she is no help. Absolutely Horrible!
Professor Heider is one of the good ones. Her class was very interactive with worksheets and interesting lab demonstrations . The quizzes and tests were fair. There is limited extra credit. Recommended homework and the discussion sessions were somewhat helpful. I quite enjoyed the class. She breaks things down, making concepts easy to understand.
She is inconsiderate as a professor, moved the test forward by a day without sending any emails. She lacks remorse. Constantly gives out quizzes without giving you the time to go over them again to see what you did wrong. She requires that you buy a classwork packet that she wrote herself for this class. TA didnt help much.
She's a very interesting teacher with her many hidden jokes in lecture. Her exams and quizzes are super easy if you show up to lecture. I didn't have to read the book at all. She's always open for helping students out. Discussion was pointless unless there was a test. Her grading is very forgiving and she offered extra credit at least once.
Amazing professor, but difficult topic. If you pay attention to lecture & do assigned worksheets, should pass easily w B. (maybe do some 'optional HW' she gives). She has really random funny jokes, and will do experiments in class. Disucussion pointless unless there's a quiz. Lectures a MUST in order to pass.
Best chemistry teacher I've ever had. She makes class so fun.
The class is set up great! Very easy to understand and she makes it simple and clear. You do have to put in effort, but her exams are the same as what she teaches. So, you won't be surprise and say that you didn't learn it. Great teacher overall.
I had Dr. Heider for Chem 2045C, and I had to miss two weeks of class for medical reasons. She was very understanding and let me know everything that I missed. Even with missing two weeks of class, I was able to end up with an A. Her quizzes and tests are not hard at all as long as you do the suggested HW problems.
Lectures may go quickly so make sure look up her past lectures! It won't be hard if you do your homework assigned and participate in class. Ask her questions if you have any. She also gives a little bit of extra credit that could potentially help you with your grade - you must earn the extra credit; no freebies! And always study before your tests!!
She's super funny. She isn't a tough grader because everything is by ScanTron. But you should be careful on the test questions because some are worded trickily. If you show up to class, pay attention, and do the homework you should end up with an A or B. But if you're lazy, this class is going to be hard for you.
Dr. Heider is awesome. She's exactly the type of funny but also slightly awkward professor you would want for a Chem class. Definitely go to class, and don't make the same mistake I did by not doing the recommended homework problems. They really help so definitely take advantage of the extra practice and the quizzes and tests won't be too hard.
GREAT TEACHER she gives 7 quizzes and lets you drop your lowest two scores she also gives 3 exams and you can drop your lowest one she also gives you two extra credit opportunities which are easy very easy to pass the class as long as you do the how (not required)
Good professor. The final had a lot of questions from chapter 5, so make sure you study that chapter (last chapter) There were maybe 4-6 overal questions from chapters 467 on the final, which was quite disappointing. Read + Practice the HW questions and you'll be fine. I made a B? in the class, an A is totally doable though (B I work full-time).
Good powerpoints. Teaches really well and is willing to help you out. If you go to class and study a bit, you should get an A or atleast a B.
Heider is amazing. I loved taking her class. Plus she's very attractive. Talk about eye candy. Mmm. She gives 7 Quizzes, but drops 2 of them. And she gives 3 exams, and a final, yet she drops the lowest exam. Or half the final if you bomb the final. She is very clear when talking about chemistry, she really knows her stuff. Taking her for Chem2046!
Dr. Heider was a wonderful professor. While her lectures weren't mandatory, they certainly helped solidify concepts. There is homework but it is optional; grades come strictly from Quizzes and Exams (and a few extra credit opportunities as she seems fit). Overall, she is nice, her lectures are as entertaining, and I'd certainly take her again!
I took three years of IB Chem, and I retook Chem 1 to have a good review before Chem 2. I wish she was my teacher in IB, because anything that can't be understood in the book can be easily be understood through her. If you go to lecture, read the book, and do the homework problems she assigns, you will get an A.
When I was in High School, I hated Chemistry. Dr. Heider quickly turned that around with her superb teaching. If you have a solid idea of a unit's material, you can get a 100 on every quiz, an A on most tests. The final is NOT that hard, its just a good deal of reviewing to do. Discussion sections are used for quizzes, and extra credit. TAKE HER!!
Professor Heider is a well spoken and knowledgeable woman. I understood a great amount of the material after taking AP chem in high school, reading the text book, using her course pack, and going to class, so I did not need to ask many questions, but the few I did she answered very adequately. I have already enrolled in her chem two course!
I am an A student with 152 college credits and this was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. The discussion class is useless. You only go there to take quizzes. I needed an 82% on the final to get a B in the class and ended up with a 73%. The class average on the final was a 66%. Concepts seem easy in class but the tests are ridiculously hard.
Heider made chemistry as easy as she could if you study hard. She's very helpful, her powerpoints contain everything you need to know. Her quizzes are fairly easy, and high grades on exams are doable if you study and do the homework. Don't miss class unless you can get course pack notes from someone else because they help a lot. Great professor
Professor Heider is amazing! She explains chemistry concepts so clearly and is a very sweet person overall. Make sure to do the HW and attend lectures even though they are both optional because they really do help with the exams. Textbook was helpful for me but not 100% necessary.
She is a great professor. You need to puttee time in. I would have done better if i had studied in the beginning.
This class isn't easy. Make sure you read and take notes, and pay attention in class! If you read the textbook, the quizzes should come very easy, and so will the tests actually. My mistake was not reading or seeking for help. READ! and please pay attention in class-the road to success in this class. It's really doable as long as you put in effort
This class is difficult. The material isnt that bad but the questions on tests are tricky. Definitely have to study A TON to get an A. Requires a lot of studying to even get a B. Dont miss the extra credit opportunities
Great Professor
She makes you buy a workbook written by her with practice problems that you do in class together, but they are not graded and help a lot with practicing the problems. Also homework is not graded but is suuuuper helpful in trying to learn the material. She's always willing to answer questions and I would definitely take her again !
Dr. Heider is a superb professor. Good humor, fair grading, and helpful explanations. Her lectures were very well thought-out, and the assignments (including those in the mandatory course pack, which I would normally despise) complimented the material nicely. However, the lab was utterly pointless, except for quizzes. Just do the work and study.
I thought for sure I was going to get an A in this course until the final. Her class is not easy, and yes, I did work very hard and studied for hours each day. The "cumulative" final was mainly on 1 chapter that she barely spent an hour teaching. I was extremely disappointed in how she taught. The lab was bad too my TA could barely speak english.
She's a very good teacher and I think her class is very easy. I got above a 95 on each of her tests. Her tests are exactly like the homework and coursepack so as long as you do that, you'll be fine. I'm going to try and take her for chem 2.
She wasnt bad for 2045C, but now she is terrible. No curves on exams where the averages have been Ds all semester, doesn't give much help in office hours. Rolls her eyes when I ask her questions. In emails she is rude and no real help. I have a B right now, but will probably get a C. I am in honors college so I do my work, and study. DONT TAKE HER!
For Chem 1 it wasn't bad. Do not think she will be the same extremely tough. Avg grade on test were D's. Do not expect extra credit, or help. honestly terrible time.
Dr. Heider is a great professor for chemistry. If you put in the time and effort you will pass. It is not an easy class though many people fail. And good amount of money spent on textbook and course pack that you must have.
Dr. Heider is a great chemistry professor. If you put in the time and effort you will pass. It is not an easy class though many people fail. And good amount of money spent on textbook and course pack that you must have.
This was my first chemistry class. She's a great teacher in terms of explaining concepts and making you care. However, nothing will prepare you for her tests; I even did all of the homework. However, SARC brought me from making Ds to As because they taught you exactly what you needed to know for the test. If you are taking 2045, STUDY for test 2.
Heider is the best. Barely went to class and finished with a 102% in it! I definitely suggest her for Chem2045 and she gives EC! Tests are literally just the homework again and she drops the lowest test
I have a 79.6 and she will not round me to a B... I deserve a B. I did pretty well in the class even though she was rude to me and wouldn't give me help when I asked. She's only a "great" professor to those she likes. I regret taking her. first C of mine entire life. Ive cried at least 5 times because of her. DONT TAKE HER
Some comments here are hilarious. Good luck with her on CHEM II. The final is the standardized American Chemical Society test, which means ALL chapters. Most, if not the majority of chem. professors use the percentile ranking as a means to grade it, but it looks like she simply divided the # of right answers over 70. Rate laws at the end fail.
Very good professor. Homework is time consuming but it absolutely helps prepare for exams.
There are 4 mid-term exams worth 100 points each, and a final worth 100 pts. She replaces your lowest exam grade with your final if you do better on the final. HW is worth 100 points as well. (Total pts for the course: 600) Her exams very much look like the practice problems. The ACS final was not bad at all. Her lectures should prepare you well.
Final was extremely hard but other tests weren't so bad as long as u did the homework. Drops lowest test, lowest two quizzes and minilab. Posts lectures online but she has a coursepack you have to buy to follow along in class which was helpful.
She is very clear, organized, and helpful when needed to be. The class is moderately difficult and will require that you study a decent amount, but the test material follows the book exactly, so the practice problems, with full solutions provided, and Mastering Chemistry homework will certainly prepare you for the tests. Prepares you for ACS exam.
I am the absolute worst when it comes to comprehending Chemistry but I felt like Professor Heider was a great lecturer. However, she made her tests extremely difficult (more specifically Exam 2). The quizzes weren't as bad but you still have to put in a significant amount of studying in order to pass. I could have passed w an A if I studied more.
Dr. Heider seem intimidating, but honestly she is SUPER cool. Her quizzes are easier than her tests, but it's doable. Her lectures are clear & interesting, but you have to really understand the concepts to do well because she's good at rewording things on her test. I recommend doing her HW, going to SI & Youtube videos ( helped me get a B).
As long as you go to class and keep up with her end of chapter homework assignments (not mandatory), you will receive an easy A in this class. Dr. Heider is very straightforward and easy to understand. Just make sure you go to class and you should be fine.
Class wasn't bad, the tests are fairly easy and straight from the homework, take note I got an A, B, A on the tests and when the final came I got a C. She couldnt have made the final any harder. Dropped my A to a B, so study for the final early still upset about it
I took Dr. Heider for 2045 and passed with a B (The final had a lot of Chapter 5 questions). 2046 is a different beast, it is not "extremely" difficult, but you will have to study a lot. I didn't go to lecture, I read the book, did the online homework and ended up with a 89.53 (no rounding, didn't even ask). Do NOT forget acidbase and rate laws!
One of the easiest classes I have taken yet. It was everything I learned in high school. Finished the class with a 102%. All you need to do is do the homework(not mandatory) and you'll get an A. The tests are exactly like the homework. The final was everything we covered so as long as you redid old examsquizzes, you could easily pass. A++++++
Amazing professor! She is very nice and helpful overall. Makes the concepts stick for life and the lecture is very interesting.
Pretty good teacher! Just requires reading for each chapter and doing her homework problems in advance. This is the guaranteed formula for an A. Plus, she prepares you really well for the ACS throughout the year.
Great professor! Just do the (optional) homework and the tests are just like the problems from the homework. Only gives tests on homework and ideas from the notes. Drops the lowest test, 2 lowest quizzes and 2 lowest lab reports. Super helpful and straightforward!
I took this class as an upperclassman and was surrounded by freshman that were fresh out of ap chem. I had a bad experience with chemistry in high school, but figured this class would be manageable since I passed the placement test. I felt like I would study and do the homework and still got bad grades, while everyone else wouldn't and was fine.
Dr. Heider is a great professor. She really knows how to teach chemistry in a way that is both interesting and effective. The quizzes are just like the homework problems she assigns (maybe even easier) and her test are not difficult at all. As long as you pay attention to her lectures and do the homework you will do fine in the class.
Heider is an amazing professor. Her quizes and mini labs are weekly in Discussion sections, and if you ever have a problem with anything she is more than happy to email you.
I took Dr. Heider for Chemistry Fundamentals I and II. She did an amazing job teaching all the concepts that were required to pass. She is very clear, she hands out worksheets at the beginning of the lecture, then she gives time to walk around and work through it as she lectures. At the end, she answers it for the students too. Would take again!
Dr. Heider is an amazing professor and actually made me understand Chemistry for the first time in my educational career. If you can fully do and comprehend all the homework problems, you'll get an A. There are 3 exams (I got 95,90,100), 6 quizzes, and seven minilabs. She drops the two lowest quizzes and minilabs. Honestly, just do the homework!
Professor Heider is really great! If you go to her office hours, she takes the time to explain to you the concepts and help you to understand the material in a better way. She cares a lot for the students and gives different types of quizzes and minilabs, so that you can relate the concepts that are seen in class to examples of the real life.
Lectures are very clear, makes sure you know about resources around campus that will help you. Unless you've taken a bunch of chem before, go to class. You only need the textbook if you want it to do practice problems before tests. No make-ups, but grades are dropped. If you get an 89.999, you get a B.
Got an A in the course, although it was NOT thanks to attending classes. Strictly from book reading. Spent most of each class filling out a packet (which we were forced to buy, and was made conveniently wrote by her) with "practice problems." I say "practice problems," because they are about 5 times easier than the actual test questions.
Dr. Heider's class was fairly easy. She assigns homework which is not graded, but you must do in order to do well on quizzes and exams. She drops 2 quizzes, 2 lab reports, and either a midterm exam or half of the final exam. Those drops will save your grade if you didn't start off too well!! She gave extra credit on the last week of class, too.
TAKE HER! She is so helpful and post the homework online (worked out) so there really is no way you could fail unless you just don't try. She is an amazing professor and makes everything seem easy when it could be very hard. Overall great class!!
She's really dedicated to her students and wants everyone to do well. She drops a ton of scores, so you would have to really mess up to not do well. Her lectures are interesting and she's funny. She makes difficult topics seem easy. Her coursepack really helped me grasp each concept. The homework really helps you prepare for her exams and quizzes.
I would definitely recommend Heider to anyone, she explains everything so well. Attendance isn't mandatory, but helps in learning the material. Textbook use is helpful for homework, but not needed since powerpoints and homework solutions are online. She drops 1 exam or half of the final, 2 quizzes, 2 labs, so getting an A or B is not too difficult.
Dr. Heider is an amazing professor! She explains things in a way that helps you understand easily. As long as you do the homework that she lists on the syllabus it'll be an easy A. She drops a test also, which is really helpful. Definitely recommend!
She's the perfect teacher. It would be a mistake not to take her. coming from a guy who has never taken chemistry seriously before, she makes chemistry easy. tests are pretty identical to the homework, so make sure you do it,
Great professor, and the tests are very easy if you do the homework. Take the class seriously and you will do well.
Wonderful chemistry professor. She was very clear about her expectations and had an easily understandable grading system.
Nice professor, but nice doesnt mean shell prepare you for what you'll experience later in organic chem or the MCAT. I took Clutch prep bc they do thorough exam reviews and concept videos that were better than going to the SI that would just go over standardized/test bank-type questions. Stoichiometry and Thermochemistry was a joke afterwards!
Chemistry is a tough subject that this teacher does an amazing job of teaching. She makes even the most difficult topics seem easy. You will have to do the homework and put effort into your lab reports, but it's college, so... that's expected. I would most definitely take her again. I wish I had her for all my chemistry classes.
Heider is a great lecturer, but studying is needed to pass. Her lectures are easy but the quizzes and exams are much harder than, say, the practice problems in the workbook. Practice a lot and memorize what she says to memorize - it's important. I like her teaching style but I don't like how there's a disconnect between lectures and her tests.
Responds to emails in a timely matter. Test and quizzes are easier than homework assigned. When review for a test using the textbook questions help a lot, but we hardly use the book in class.
Heider is a great professor. She is definitely very educated in her field so her lectures are very good. If you don't think you're all that great at chemistry, I would not recommend her because her material is very difficult. Not an easy A.
Her test questions appear to come from mid air. They have nothing to do with the in class activities, lab reports, or homework assignments. I studied material out of 2 different textbooks and had a personal tutor and still only managed a 73%. None of the assignments are weighted and the homework is long and tedious. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
This professor is hard. Try to avoid at all costs for CHM 2040. It was her first time teaching CHM 2040 and treated it as if it were a CHM 2045 class. There are 6 quizzes, 6 tests, and 6 minilabs that were completely pointless. Don't get me wrong she is a very intelligent woman, but if you're looking for an easy professor and class, avoid Heider.
I absolutely hated this class. I hardly understood any of the material because she skipped so much in lecture. The things she did teach she only covered the basis of it and not enough to know how to do it on the test. She didn't explain the minilabs and the writing assignments well at all and many of us failed that portion of the class.
She knows her stuff. Homework is long and no worth it for the exam. 6 minilabs that i have no idea how i did them! 6 quizzes and 6 test. Her exams are hard i barely passing the class. The only good thing of this class is that you pass with 67% with a C and because there is so many things to do it helps you at the end.
Don't even get me started about this professor. This class was ridiculously hard for what it was, and so many people in the class ended up with a C or failed. DO NOT TAKE HER if you want a good grade. She doesn't explain anything and her tests are just something else... The minilabs were pointless no other chm2040 professor does them.
Does not teach to the level she tests. Will completely blindside you if you are not studying every other day. Tells you class attendance is optional but does not make in class worksheets or materials available to you if you are not in class. Does not prepare you for her own exams. If you have her, you need to teach yourself or fail.
Such a good teacher, knows a lot about chem and really works things out so you understand how to do the problems. You have to put effort into the class and definitely go to the labs and lectures to understand the material but Heider makes it sooo interesting and she's pretty funny.
Fairly easy class if you put in the effort, especially if you have any prior chemistry knowledge. Dr. Heider is very helpful, and can be funny. Make sure to go to lectures and complete all assignments and labs. Drops 2 quizzes, 2 lab grades, and 1 exam. Would absolutely recommend taking this class.
This isn't the easy class, Heider def makes you work. Definitely go to class, do the extra hwk she assigns (*best way to ace her tests*), do well on Mastering chem + quizzes and you'll make an A. The ACS portion of final is hard, study w/ ACS study guide. She's fair in dropping grades (lifesaver)! If you're not willing to work, don't take her.
I found this class extremely difficult and had to study TONS. Class is not mandatory but go, the material is hard to learn on your own. The homework is ridiculous and SO long. However, during lectures, Heider was very clear and her class was very structured. There are lots of grades so low grades don't weigh too much and she drops low grades.
Lectures so fast that you can't get anything written down. The class is a lot of work, quiz every week (drops lowest 2), and homework due every week online that is 40+ questions. She doesn't review for the tests, and barely touches on the subjects in the book.
Definitely not the easiest, but not brutal. Good teaching strategies.
Dr. Emily Heider is a professor that I personally recommend to every student that needs to take Chemistry One. I took AP chemistry in high school, along with chemistry honors, so chemistry was pounded into my brain upon arriving here to UCF; therefore, coming from a student that finds chemistry non-difficult, Dr. Heider is the professor to take!
Chemistry is already a tough subject, but Dr. Heider's teaching style helped immensely. Lectures were mostly engaging, and her dry sense of humor actually helps with retaining material. Very generous grading: drops two quizzes, two lab reports, and an exam. Come to class, be ready to work, and you'll get a good grade.
Dr. Heider is a great professor, she drops two of your lowest quizzes and lab reports and the lowest test or half of the final if it's the lowest. Very easy to fall behind and quizzes can be hard to do well on. If you're willing to work for your grade and to learn the chemistry definitely take her
She explains concepts really well and works with us to solve problems in class. She demonstrates a few concepts in class with videos and small props. Her minilabs were a bit annoying however. And she is very monotone.
She had good lectures, explained everything clearly and had a good sense of humor. We also have a workbook for lectures which is good if you are a hands-on learner. Generous curve and drops 2 quizzes, 1 test, and 2 minilabs. Best way to practice for the tests are through the extra practice problems in the books. Hard course but an A is possible!
Prof. Heider teaches directly from the book which I didnt find useful at all. Be sure to do the homework it really helps your grade in the end and she does drop a few grades which is nice. However, quiz and test problems are way harder than anything she shows you in class or hw. If you need an in depth teacher i wouldnt reccomend her. still passed.
If you aren't good at teaching yourself the material, don't take Heider. She's a cool person, but lectures just don't prepare you for her tests or quizzes at all. She covers the basic conceptual stuff, but only shows the easiest math examples, leaving you to figure it out yourself. Study the HW for the quizzes and study the quizzes for the tests.
DONT take this class if you're not able or committed to teaching yourself. The pace of her lecture is hard to keep up with and easy to get overwhelmed. Also, the problems she goes over in class provides 0 representation of whats on the test. Quizzes and lab due report due every week. Her tests are HARD and she doesn't provide any review sessions.
I personally did not like her teaching style. She lectures using vague powerpoints. I had to read the textbook and watch videos because her powerpoint slides had the bare minimum of information for the concepts on the test. You have to do your own studying of outside material to really prepare for the tests. Labs are a joke and a waste of time.
Dr. Heider is a great professor she explains her topics clearly, but you must study hard for the exams. Gives only 3 exams total one being the final which replaces a test grade, 8 quizzes and about 8 mini labs which are highly annoying.
This class is not an easy A by any means. You have to show up to lecture and do the practice questions from the textbook. I recommend choosing a Thursday discussion section instead of a Tuesday section. The tests were more difficult than I expected. Dr. Heider is a fantastic professor and I would take her class again.
Tests and quizzes are difficult but thats expected based on the subject. She drops two lowest quizzes, two lowest labs, and lowest test or half the final, so grade is pretty curved at the end. No extra credit. Lectures are hard to pay attention to. I had to read to understand. Posts lectures and practice problems online.
She explains things to the bare minimum and I had to read the book to understand some things. Lecture was honestly hard to pay attention to, but came in just for the workbook pages she went over. Practice problems are your best friend ((DO THEM!!!) & are similar to the quizzes and exams; minilabs were a chore. Don't forget conceptual info!
Chemistry with Heider is great, especially compared to the other chemistry teachers at UCF that I have heard of. She tries to make her lectures interesting and she answers any questions you have. She's a very personable and reasonable professor. Would definitely take her again. Make sure you study for tests. Labs are weekly, not stressful at all.
Professor Heider is really good at teaching the material. The quizzes & minilabs are easy, but the quizzes do nothing to help you with the exams. HW isn't mandatory, but DO IT because it helps! I read the textbook and did the HW multiple times and got A's on the exams. STUDY for exam 2 & study for the final ahead of time. I got an A on the final
Good professor. Heider has a command of both chemistry and effective teaching strategies. Employs quality TAs. The pacing is spot-on; read book, watch YouTube, do the suggested homework; go to groups, etc. Discussion is pretty easy and straightforward, just make sure you take accurate info during labs and follow the rubric. Good experience.
Dr. Heider is sweet, always willing to help and knows what she's talking about. The wording on her test and quizzes are really tricky so you have you really have to know the material but she drops grades. The class itself is pretty fast paced but she posts the lectures online. Doing practice problems/tests in groups helped me in this class.
Drops a lot of grades, make sure to do well in the beginning as you'll need the later exams dropped. Class gets much harder as the semester goes on, but she did curve the final despite her syllabus saying otherwise.
Attendance not mandatory and lots of grades dropped. Just make sure to do the practice problems she assigns. They are optional, but really helped a ton with preparing for the tests and quizzes.
Dr. Heider is a great teacher and she knows what she's talking about. However, the class itself has tough material to learn.
-ATTEND LECTURE AND LAB -DO take the lab reports seriously -DO read the TB and more importantly DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS AT THE END OF THE LESSON; SI sessions are also helpful and provide a study guide -Remember to take the weekly study inventories: EASY POINTS -Drops lowest grade from each section: Lab, Quiz, Exams (half of final)
Honestly, I was worried about my grade because I was right on the edge of A and B. In the end she curves the exam for everyone. My advise is really read through the textbook and do the practice questions. Other than that, take the lab quiz seriously and ask the TA questions that might appear on the quizzed. My TA spilled most of the questions.
Best Chemistry professor at UCF! She is very kind and knowledgeable. Got an A without having to study that much for this class.
The class isn't particularly easy, It involves work and doing practice problems that she recommends. Recommend doing the practice problems !!!! They're not mandatory but they help a bunch. Tests require studying and understanding the material but not hard. They require reading through the questions thoroughly. Good professor, really knowledgable.
LOVE HER. she really cares. she has lecture videos, watch them, they're so helpful. the quizzes aren't bad if you watch the videos. The tests are just the quizzes with more questions. chem is chem, its difficult, Dr. Heider does a good job trying to help her students understand. not an easy A but it is possible, didn't think I could do it but I did
Prof Heider was an amazing instructor. She also posts her lectures on YouTube so you can review it at anytime. A lot of practice problems in class, so I didnt have to study so much at home. I loved her!
Dr Heider is a very solid choice for a chem profesor. She understands that the class isn't the easiest and was willing to help when asked. This semester we had a group project, but it was simple and she went easy on the grade. The biggest tip I can give is to get the textbook and do the voluntary problems. That is the best way to prepare for tests.
Dr. Heider teaches a great chem class. The HW is not mandatory but these questions prepare you for the quizzes and tests. Lecture difficulty is pretty easy, but HW problems are harder, so be sure to do them. Expect to put a lot of time into supplementary work in order to get an A in this class. She also drops 1-2 assignments from each category.
solid choice for chem if you have a good background on basic chem. this class is very fast paced, so if you didn't have a good background of chem, take the 2 semester. quizzes are the lecture videos. tests are problems in the textbook. lots of grade fluff. STUDY. study for test 2...
she is a very caring teacher, responsive and tries to make the class fun
Professor Heider is a gifted instructor and she was always open to answering questions via email and stopping by her office (even unannounced). Her exams closely resembled old homeworks and in class worksheets. Rather than lecture nonstop, she creates an active learning environment. She made learning analytical chem so much fun! Take her class!!!!!
Great professor overall. Lecture slides are posted online, but attend class to fully understand them and know what to memorize. It's best to have a good background in chem since lectures can be fast. Study HW/lecture problems. Final divided into 2 parts: ACS (way diff from her quiz/exams) and her own exam (very similar to her quiz/exams).
Professor Heider makes you work for your A. Don't slack (as I did) because the exams will be difficult. Quizzes are simple, lowest exam replaced with final (if final is higher), two minilabs dropped, lowest quiz is replaced with average of all other quizzes. Use SARC, SI, and do practice problems! You can get an A if you work for it.
Go to class. The lecture slides are fill in the blank and skipping class you miss problems worked out. You will pass if you read/do the optional homework and extra problems. Review ACS question format through the semester since there are some on the final but none through the year. The one group project was fun but don't forget to do it!
Dr. Heider was a professor who was not only kind, but cared about teaching. I had taken AP Chemistry in the past, which allowed me to understand most of the material, but Dr. Heider was very helpful in her lectures andI learned more from her in a semester than I did in AP for a year. There is no hw and the exams are moderately easy if studied for.
Professor Heider was a great teacher imo. I really understood the material during her lectures. Granted, you do have to put in the effort outside of class, but she provides the foundation in class to do well.
Going to class wasnt necessary for me but if you dont have a good background in HS or AP chemistry then go to class for the refreshers. Quizzes and tests are very doable if you memorize equations and make sure youre familiar w/ minimal concepts at most. The final was long but straightforward
Very funny lectures, easy to pay attention to. Often lets out early because she always gets through the material in time. Drops your lowest test and multiple labs: easy A if you just learn what you're supposed to learn.
Despite her great reviews, I do not think professor Heider is an exceptional teacher. Her lectures are boring, her tests are incredibly difficult and the labs that go along with her class are useless. I spent a lot of time working out side of this class on the material and passed thanks to SARC tutors. SARC saved me after Emily tried to drown me.
Dr. Heider is knowledgable and passionate about what she is teaching, however, this class was incredibly frustrating as it felt like I had to teach myself chemistry. tests were incredibly difficult. she teaches in a way she would understand not in a way that someone learning chemistry for the first time would understand.
This class was frustrating - felt like I had to teach myself chemistry. Tests were incredibly difficult, as the material wasn't explained well. However, Unstuckstudy really helped with study prep and breaking down concepts.
