Very nice and the class was fun. The class was easy if you went and actually did your work but not boring.
The class was a lot of fun, and very informative, but the test were tricky. She doesn't make her own tests if she did it would be much easier
Easy class. Fun speeches. Hot teacher. Just don't miss class or show up late and you'll do fine.
She is very helpful, but she grades tough. Her tests suck, but hey what are you gonna do? Public Speaking is not fun in general, but she makes it worthwhile. She is kind and professional. If you have to take PS, take her.
Her tests are SO HARD! They are too hard! She tries to trick you on her tests. she's a pretty cool teacher, so if you have to take this class, i would take it with her.
Papers, Papers, Papers, man that's all you do. If you like to write papers take her but if you don't take public speaking at another school, because both teacher work you to deaf. She grade really hard on your presentations, you have to know your research. If you take her class make sure your other classes are easy. because you really have to focus
One of the things that is taught from the beginning of the class, is not to use judgmental listening techniques. Her appearance and how she interacts may suggest that she is a certain type of person, but I would suggest listening carefully to what it is she's saying (her words) rather than where you might think she's coming from. Good teacher/hard.
Save your self Please! If you take this class be prepare to work! work! work! she ask for to much by this being an elective class. She act as if this is a course class. If you take her take all east class because you will have ro but a lot of time in this class. there's paper after paper, research, outlines, she also grade hard on speeches.
She is really sweet and helpful. Would be a great reference- so get to know her. Her grading is tough, but she is a great teacher. She never wears the same outfit twice... Im not kidding.
She is a great proffessor! I highly reccomend her. Her class is interesting, as well as easy to understand. I would definitelt take her again!
She grades her tests really hard...definetly study for them. The speeches are fun but a lot of work. It is constant work! If you have a class with good chemistry it can be a ton of fun!!
She is not that hard if you study and prepare for your speeches, otherwise, you're going to have some trouble.
this teacher is terrible. she grades WAY to hard and expects way to much. the examples she gives in class are former PRESIDENTS of the U.S.!!! Are you kidding me?!! people write their speeches for them and they read them word for word. i got a 50 on the final speech becaus she expected more. DO NOT TAKE HER! i failed the class but she gave me a D
Arite. First off, this teachers HOTT!!! second. its really really fun, By the end of the year you're freinds with everyone in the class. Third: she grades REALLY hard. FOLLOW ALLL directions. Shes a really nice person, and a good teacher, but its difficult to make an A. If your an outspoken person in general - you shouldnt have a problem.
She seems really nice, but can have quite a bad attitude. I found her to be snobby at times, and she was not always clear on what she wanted. She likes to pick favorites in class (compliment her if you want an A). She cares more about your outline than she does about the quality of your speech. Attendance counts, unfortunatly!
Ms. Emily is a wonderful teacher. She is very helpful and clear on her assignments. I would deffinantly recommend her if you are taking public speaking. Make sure you do your work though. She grades fairly fair if you show that you tried and practiced your speeches. Great teacher!
I LOVE Ms. Emily! she is my favorite teacher at kennesaw. Her class is easy and if you show up and pay attention you will do fine! She grades somewhat hard and her tests are somewhat tough but if you study you will do fine. She is very understanding and loves to teach. Easy A if you show up and do like 10 assignments all year! TAKE HER
Public speaking sounds like it could be an easy class, but it isn't. The speech preparation was very meticulous and she graded pretty hard on anything that was left out or not done properly. She's very nice and often helpful, though.
She is so helpful and really teaches the material! She is so nice! She asks you to call her by her first name which I really loved! She lets you have fun and joke in class, but still makes sure you understand the material. She has been my best professor thus far at KSU.
She makes the class harder then it is. Too much work. You have to prepare for speeches, write papers and study for the exams. She is not an easy teacher at all so be aware before you take her. Her grading system is very confusing as well because she has 10 different things she grades you on.
Not bad, though she can be rude at times. Class was easy for me, and I am not a natural public speaker. Class is relatively laid back, which is nice.
Loved this class....Although a bit eccentric with APA...Emily is awesome! Just to be clear, this is NOT a High School Public Speaking class. You will have to study and prepare for speeches and tests. Welcome to college. Keep that in mind, have a sense of humor and don't take yourself too seriously. You'll be alright!
Tests were somewhat difficult because there were some GRAY area answers. Grading on speeches was pretty harsh. I learned a lot in the class, so it wasn't too bad. There were a lot of projects and speeches to prepare. She definitely made it interesting.
I really enjoyed Mrs. Holler, she takes communication seriously so you have to be prepared to work. I worked hard but felt like I learned a lot. Not the easiest A but a pretty cool class. Oh and she grades speeches very harshly!
Professor Holler is a terrific teacher. I took for maymester and she was awesome. Her class very interesting. I would take her for all my com classes if possible.
She is a hard grader but as long as you do the work and listen in class you can pass easily. Her class is interesting and there are a fair amount of speeches but do the stuff, prepare, and you'll do fine. She requires you to read the book and it will be on the tests. Attendance and participation is mandatory and a part of your grade.
She didn't use gaview vista except to tell us about things going on around school. However we never new what was going on in class and all she ever told us was to check the syllabus
She'll give you a study guide for a test and say that everything on the study guide will be on the test... lies. She kinda had a way of making me feel stupid. I really just despised going into her classroom everyday. Sorry Emily (if you're reading this.) I'd suggest someone different.
I took this as a Maymester. Honestly, the subject material is pretty boring, but Emily made it fun. She likes to crack jokes, which made the 4.5 hour classes bearable. The three tests are pretty hard. Make SURE you do the study guides and attend EVERY CLASS, because if you don't you won't get the notes unless someone photocopies them.
Hard and boring...
Emily Holler is a solid professor. I learned a lot about public speaking and was challenged in her class. However, she wasn't impossible by any means. I looked forward to going to her class. The tests were suprisingly difficult - I didn't think that there was that much information she could test on, but somehow they were hard.
She is very knowledgeable and is one of the authors of the book. Her tests were not hard but you definitely need to study the material and know it well not just general themes. She is extremely helpful. She will review your outlines/anything that needs to be turned in prior to receiving your grade. Only midterm&final(a lot to study)
Ridiculous amount of work, even in her entry level classes. Must do things her way or the highway. Sometimes pushes her own political agenda rather than letting students have their own. Lectures are sometimes interesting, and she does get a few points for class activities. But otherwise is very particular. Not exactly my style. Won't take her again
Professor Holler is AWESOME! She is one of the smartest professors at KSU. She has a sarcastic humor that I find quite funny. There are 2 exams & 1 final. Of the 3 papers, only one was long. The material on the exams are exactly what's in the book & on the Powerpoints. Expectations are clear & she is extremely helpful. Take her!
Had her for pub speak and she is awesome!! You have to put in your effort but she notices who tries and who doesn't and she will help you as much as she can. It's not hard to make A's in her class if you pay attention. Love her!!
Absolutely loved this professor. I had to put a lot of effort into this class, but I definitely got a lot out of it. The class I took was a hybrid, and the online material was confusing at times, but I think that is going to happen with any hybrid class. If you take the hybrid portion, make sure you are ready to put forward the outside work.
Professor Holler always smiles, and is very particular about her expectations on assignments. She is straight to the point, but can come off as rude at times. I would take her again and she obviously prepares students for success. She STRONGLY encourages you to participate in the Public Speaking showcase, and I look forward to it this Friday :)
Its a tough class but if you put the work in its manageable. She will help those who help themselves, but you have to be willing to work and follow her strict guidelines. She can also be uninformative about things that don't matter to her, but in fact are helpful to the students. She isn't impressed by much. proceed with caution.
Emily Holler is by far my favorite professor. She is organized, straight to the point, knows her material and keeps class entertaining. Interviewing is an elective class, but get ready for a course that is just as hard as a core. Fortunately, it's one of the only classes that has actually helped me and is applicable to my life.
I went into this class looking forward to public speaking, but the way her class was run was kind of a nightmare. Her tests are pretty difficult with wrong answers being to close to right ones. She comes off as kind of opinionated and will give you the runaround on questions. Her standards are incredibly high (and I'm a good speaker.)
She definitely knows the material and is very knowledgeable. A lot of the information is extremely helpful and I have learned a lot. However, the grading for the projects is unbalanced, she can give condescending replies, and the tests can be pretty difficult. Overall I wouldn't recommend her, but I would recommend the class.
I liked Mrs. Holler. I hate anything to do with public speaking but she wasn't ever harsh about it. She is very helpful and clear on instructions. You're required to get the online textbook.
I made the mistake of taking this as a hybrid. she would be a fantastic teacher if it were not for the aspect of it being a hybrid. The online work was very demanding and she was outrageously strict on grading the mandatory, 6 times a week discussion questions, which made me get a c instead of an a. only take her in a two or three a day class.
Emily is an AMAZING professor! She is very sarcastic and funny in her lectures, and she makes everything CRYSTAL clear when it comes to her expectations! She is not super easy, but you will be glad you took her! I absolutely LOVED having her in class, and I am sad there aren't any other courses I can take her for! She is SUCH a sweet lady!
BY FAR THE HARDEST TEACHER I HAVE HAD THUS FAR. The only good thing about her is she does what she says, but the downside is there's NO negotiation. SHE.IS.RIGHT. I took this class thinking it would be a fun elective, absolutely not. She takes things way too seriously unless you suck up to her. Her tests are VERY vague.
This public speaking class was a hybrid class that met once a week. The exams are hard if you don't pay attention to the online material. She is VERY clear with her expectations from you. If you are a good public speaker (or at least not afraid of trying) you will do well in this class. She's a fair grader. Recommended!
I had her for Human COM for Maymester and not only was she able to make the class fun. but she also made learning the material easy. She loves teaching and is very approachable should you need to talk to her after class. Don't buy the textbook though, it's not worth it. Good lectures, uses PowerPoints.
Fantastic professor! I took her for public speaking hybrid; I've never had a professor be so encouraging. She's very organized & clear about what assignments are & when they are due. It makes the online section so easy to finish. The exams are straight from her lectures & there is only a midterm & final, most of the grades come from speeches.
Took Public Speaking as a hybrid. I really liked the online portion but that made every class meeting a presentation day which was really annoying. But overall, I really like her as a professor.
Took the course as a hybrid and really enjoyed it. The online work is a bit overwhelming at first, but as the semester progresses you adjust. Professor Holler was always checking in and willing to help students. I definitely recommend her, just make sure you come with your speech prepared.
Holler is fantastic and really shows you how you can improve as a speaker. She's always letting you change your speech topic and offers examples and tips for speaking. I believe she is a pretty lenient grader personally, but it's not hard to make an A. The midterm and final are a little tricky. But you can easily pull an A out.
I took her for a Maymester, so I cannot judge her on a full semester, but for the 2 weeks we had to complete 3 papers, 3 tests and a group presentation. The group presentation was on the same day of one of the tests. Her point system is out of 900 points and in order to get an A you must have at least 810 points. Not an easy class! Be careful!
Such a great professor! She made the class very entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed the topics we discussed. I appreciated how she switched up the routine instead of her lectures being strictly PowerPoint presentations. I always looked forward coming to class twice a week.
Lectures are important for the tests so don't skip or space out- there's only 2! She's extremely specific of how she wants the speech outlines to be completed so read it carefully. I got sick the night before my presentation day and she was very understanding and let me present the following class day. Tough grader for your 5 speeches so PRACTICE!
Professor Holler is an engaging and helpful teacher. I took the hybrid course for COM 2129 and enjoyed it. The tests and speeches have no hidden surprises or anything. Even if you don't do well on in-class speeches, you can make up for it with the homework. Just be ready to read LOTS of email instructions from her and work hard on busy work.
Professor Holler is a great person and may be a great professor for a Public Speaking class. When it comes to a Health Communication class that is the complete opposite. She loads work on you and gives vague descriptions on what she wants. She tried to make an health com elective a speech class... Don't take this unless you want a hard elective.
Don't let the online class format fool you. This class is extremely demanding for a 1000 level class. Don't take communications online. The classroom class is sosososo much easier. You have lengthy discussions every week and she grades harshly. Do not take her
She's okay. She's kind of passive-aggressive, which gets annoying, and she doesn't make already boring information any more exciting. She wants things done her way. And the discussion panel project we did was really weird. But it's a relatively easy A, and even though there's a lot of material to remember, it's not that difficult of a class.
She lectured a lot and was very very boring. Her class was easy but irritating. She rushes through everything and sometimes skips whole lessons just to stay on schedule, and she is very all over the place and often forgetful. She cares more about what she has to say than what students have to say. Lots of projects and tests.
Professor Holler was, without a doubt, one of the best and most engaging professors I have taken a class with since starting college. She made every lecture both meaningful and applicable in her own unique way that made retaining a lot of information a bit more manageable, and did it all with a smile the entire Maymester. Take her class if you can!
Extremely hardd online class. Must have camera on your computer as all online exams are proctored. Hard tests, group projects. Don't take online. Came out with a C in what should have been an easy class.
Even though the material is not hard, the tests are proctored and you can't use your notes or your book. Take the classroom classss instead. Much easier.
Don't take! Very difficult class with proctored online exams.
group projects online stinks. difficult tests where you have to memorize all terms. can't use book. have to subscribe to proctor for tests. easy material, impossible exams.
Her tests cover 4 chapters and are over little phrases you could never memorize from the book. You can't use your book as all tests require proctored exams. Group projects and discussion every week. This is a demanding and time consuming class. My friend took the classroom class and it was so much easier.
This class is too much work for a low level required class.. Unless you can memorize 100 silly definitions for each test, word for words, you will be frustrated. You have to work very hard simply to make a B. My friends got a C with effort. Impossible to get an A with her point system and difficult exams.
Professor Holler's health communication class is DIFFICULT. She gives you so much work that's not necessary. Her semester-long project where we had to present at least 4 times was exhausting. She does not grade too hard on the papers but there is a lot of writing assignments as well. Her final exam is comprehensive so do not throw away your notes.
I really liked Prof. Holler, she cares about communication and responds quickly. She offers extra help and will give you hints if you ask her specific questions. The tests are difficult. As long as you study hard you can make high B's or A's. There are writing assignments/discussion post. If you have a heavy schedule do not take this class.
This class is way too hard for a basic 1000 class. She gives a decent amount of homework, although she is a pretty easy grader. Her tests are lock-down browser AND webcam required and are extremely detail oriented. You have to read the entire book word for word and know the tiniest details. Would not recommend if you don't have a lot of time.
Communications sounds easy, but the tests are impossible. Most cover 4 chapters and are extremely picky. I can't get greater than a B on any test and I study for 3 days. No curve, no extra credit.
Hard class for a level 1000, but Professor Holler cares about her students success. I was going to end the class with a 79.1 from missing a couple of assignments and she allowed me to turn it in late to get the extra points I needed to make a B.
take her! she cares, is understanding and is super kind. she teaches the information thoroughly. just apply yourself and do the work.
I really enjoyed taking Holler's class. I learned a lot and she was always a fair grader. You can tell how passionate she is about Public Speaking and she made it fun. This class is a lot of work but if you stay on top of things it is pretty easy to get an A. Test are easy too.
When I say test heavy, what I mean is you take a final exam worth 25% to 30% of your grade and its one of the hardest tests Ive ever taken. I made high bs and as all semester long and put in good work, but still might fail the class just due to the final exam. She does not give you the resources to study and loads you with work. Do not take her.
Take her if you can! The class is pretty straightforward. Her lectures are light and she makes learning fun. The hardest part is actually giving a speech, but the grading criteria is clear. The tests aren't too bad and she gives you study guides for each one.
Terrible professor. She makes you do a lot of work during the semester but in the end that work barely counts for anything. The tests are what counts the most and they are super hard. I took this class as an online class but she made students come in to take the exams in a proctored room.
A lot of work is done in this class that means nothing when adding up your overall grade. In order to receive a decent grade in this class you have to perform well on both the midterm and final. I am not sure if this is normal grade scale for other professors who teach course but I would definitely check and avoid this professor. Exams Proctored
Really clear powerpoints and very easy to do well if you follow instructions and put the work in. Very good at correcting you without being rude or condescending and irrelevant but she dresses really well :)
I would not recommend Professor Holler. She is highly opinionated and doesn't care about your beliefs or way of thinking. She is always right. To get an A, you must do VERY well on the midterm and the final. They are weighted very high and unnecessarily difficult. Get ready to read as well; the textbook is long, boring, and very one-sided.
Literally be BEST online teacher ever. So laid back & makes everything so clear.
Professor Holler was a good professor for the most part. Very good on giving feedback. For real if you skip class you won't pass. It was pretty difficult doing lectures for public speaking online this semester with her though. If you do the work you should get an A though or at least a B.
Professor Holler has very great lecture notes and give key points about your speech presentations. her quiz & final exam are open notes and you should read the books because you can remember the information.
If you are taking Professor Holler online, don't. She will give you the textbook and tell you to read. This class is vocab based, so if you don't have time to sit down and study all the vocab words you'll not do great. I took this class on top of my other math and EE classes which makes it impossible to remember every single vocab word.
One of the most fun classes I've ever taken. Holler isn't too tolerant of goofing around, but I thought she was great. She gives thorough feedback and really cares about each student improving themselves throughout the course. The skills you learn are thorough and extensive, and it can be really fulfilling. You'll get out what you put in.
Overall great online course. You use an online system where you read the textbook & take mini-quizzes over what you read and end-of-chapter tests. There's also a choice board of assignments you can pick & choose to do through the semester. Just make sure you do the required amount & you'll be set! 2 Tests (Midterm & Final have many Questions!)
Public speaking is hard and anxiety ridden, but she makes it better. The speeches are somewhat easy and you get to choose your topic. The lectures get boring sometimes, but attendance matters, so just go to class. The tests are easy and she grades fairly on speeches. Make sure you dress properly, move, and make eye contact during speech.
Public speaking was difficult at the beginning but she uses the workbook to explain how to do the speeches step by step. The only time I used the textbook was for midterms and finals. Also, if you do not go to class, you will not do well in this class, but the classes were enjoyable. She is very nice and you can tell she cares about your progress.
This was one of my most favorite professors over the summer. Her class was super easy, and she was very kind and understanding. We had a week to do assignments that included REVEL reading and quizzes, and then a discussion post. We only had a Midterm and a final exam. 10/10 would take this Professor again.
I took her for public speaking so the only grades were two tests, quizzes, and speeches (which is the bulk). she gives extremely clear guidelines that help a lot and all assignment are online with the exception of speeches. Lockdown browser but no camera
Professor Holler's class is very structured. The assignments are relatively easy and insightful. In all, she's very organized, and I highly recommend her course.
I do not mind the class but she does keep you the whole time and sometimes over. Other than that she is a pretty good teacher and has her D2L set up very clear. She makes you print out materials for your speech and some assignments she has you do so if you take her make sure you have access to a printer. Attendance is important on speech days.
Professor Holler is amazing. I took her Public Speaking class in person. She gives super clear instructions, and feedback. There are no tests besides the midterm and final, which you take online. The main grades are the speeches. She also offers lot of participation points as well. Attendance is only mandatory on speech days. 10/10 recommend her!
She is very caring and wants everyone to succeed. The class is structured to be graded predominantly on speeches, and material. It is not a super hard class, and it was genuinely very beneficial for my fear of public speaking. She helps you every step of the way and provides detailed feedback to help you succeed in the class.
Tough grader, deducts points from discussion posts on trivial issues such as not mentioning names in your post replies. She hides your test results and only posts final scores. Each week, students complete a chapter of the ebook (about 40 pages), answer about 44 test questions, and a written assignment or discussion post. Worst class ever.
If I could rate with a zero I would. Unreasonable grader. Vindictive. Goes out of her way to be difficult.
She is an ok, but very passive aggressive. She complained all semester that people weren't showing up to a skills-based class, but the harsh reality is her lectures are so boring and long. The main grades in class are speech's and she gives you maybe 1-2 weeks to prepare. Also exams are hard because she makes the questions tricky. Take someone else
One of the worst professors I've had. Biased materials, lets students spread misinformation, doesn't follow her syllabus, and gives unclear instructions. Refused late work despite syllabus policy. Disorganized, unfair, and unprofessional. Avoid if you care about your GPA.
Very easy course. Watch lectures, read from textbook, and do assignments weekly and you will understand the material quickly.
Graded attendance on a 1-10 scale for every class and only 2 of them get dropped. There are 40-60 minute assignments due every week plus an assignment every week/ every other week. A lot of work for a gen-ed class, plus if you take this class in the honors section you have a lengthy project due at the end. I regret taking it for an HLE.
I really liked Professor Holler! She always responded to my emails, and she gave very clear instructions throughout the semester. She also kept the same schedule of assignment due dates every week, which I really appreciated.
