GREAT TEACHER!!! I wish I had her for 101 Her essay are easy topics and she explains every thing. You just have to do the homework and essay and u'll totally pass. I such at English classes but I have a B in her class and shes really laid back,young, and cool to talk to.

I LOVED Ms.Malsam she was so helpful and really flexible! The class discussions were fun and really got me involved in the class! Papers were actually topics you could relate to and write! I loved her class!

She was really hard in the beginning. When she explained her syllabus I was totally freaked out. But as class went on I understood what she was asking for, I loved the class. Brave New World her fav book was an incredible read.class discuss. help u get the material and our essays were actually things we could relate to. thanks Ms. M., C- U- N -101

I'm taking the late start online course and it is an incredible amount of work. Her feedback just points out what you did wrong so she doesn't acknowledge the content in any way. I'm learning a lot but my grade may suffer because of the work load. I wish I was in her regular classroom class!

Good professor!

She is a great teacher and encourages class participation. I took her for a 6:30 am class and it was fun to see her excited that early. She does have you write a lot (to be expected) but between the peer revue and her notes you find exactly what needs work. I disagree with the person that said she doesn't give pos feedback, shes great and fair!

nice teacher, gets you motivated, involved, and interested into the subject. do recommend, but if you're lazy dont take her.

Great professor! I am taking her online class and she is increadibly helpful and responds very quickly to any questions or concerns you have. There is a fair amount of writing, but as long as you do your work you'll be fine. Highly recommended!

Amazing professor! Took online. Unlike other profs, she checks on class very frequently and questions are usually answered within hours. Easy to reach during office hours, VERY friendly and helpful. Assignment graded and returned very quickly, and gives GREAT feedback. Have taken other ENGL profs, none compare to her.

She is EXTREMELY helpful. Her class is hard at times, but you just have to stick to it. The material she had us read didn't interest me at all.

loved, loved malsam. she is one of the best professors i have ever had. she makes time to help all her students, if you put the time into the class you will get the grade you deserve.

Loved the teacher, but her essay grading is unreasonable. You may get a 100% on the rough draft, but don't worry, your final draft of your essay will be a 70% if you're lucky. Essays are impossible to get As on. Unfortunately she reduced the number of quizzes and that really hurt students' scores when the quizzes/tests is what were holding them up.

She is an amazing teacher. Her essays are hard but she helps you every step of the way. She can show you an easier way to read the material. I have always disliked English but she makes it barable. I would take her again if I could.

She is hard on essays but she will help you every step of the way if you need it. I never cared for English but she makes is barable. Also if you have problems understanding something she will stick with you until you get it.

It's a hard class, but interesting and fun. Her discussions are interesting too. Love the literature we're discussing! Don't expect an easy grade--you have to work for it. But, she will help you with anything you need--easy to reach and easy to talk to.

really liked this teacher

At first I really liked her and was doing pretty good in the class.. The books we had to read were extremely boring since she is really into Victorian Lit. I ended up failing her class because of the final. I suggest not taking her unless you write really well.

This review applies to the online English 101 class. It consisted of online discussions, assignments and three essays. Professor Maslam was quick to respond to questions. She does expect you to think about what you are reading and delve deeper into the books she assigns. Having experience writing research papers will help if you take this course.

Online Class: Yes, she can be tough but I think she was very reasonable. She states very clearly what is expected. You definitely need to have motivation but if you stay on top of the assignments and put effort into your essays you will succeed in her class. She was the best English teacher I have ever had. The instructors who are too easy wont tea

Professor Malsam is the best ever! I abhor english and academic writing with every fibre of my being, but she not only made it easy to pass her class, but she made it obscenely clear what she wanted, AND was very open to us using our own ideas and styles in our papers. CANT SUGGEST HER ENOUGH!!!!!!!!

This professor is awsome. She knows what she is teaching and how to teach it. The textbooks she uses are not expensive and usefull for the class. The assignments are reasonably challenging. She is good at teaching online classes she is helpful, comprehensible, and if she makes a mistake (rarely) she doesn't lay the burden on the students.

Online: There is A LOT of hard work involved in her class, but as long as you are motivated and stay on top of assignments you're good. You must write all papers and take the final to pass the class. She is a great teacher and I really feel my writing has improved because of her class.

GREAT TEACHER, not a fan of english throughout school, however she really lets your ideas flow and doesnt hold you back. She really wants you to succeed!! Can't recommend her enough, even puts some stuff online but very easy to use, somewhat of a challenge but you feel great after receiving the grade you worked for.

Excellent teacher! Utilize her office hours if you struggle with essay writing. She is definitely the most helpful teacher I've had so far. Although I struggled with the class, I ended up enjoying it.

I consider my "niche" to be writing, but this was one tough class! When she gives you feedback on papers, make sure you fix EVERYTHING she gives you pointers on. If not, you will suffer large point deductions. Her office hours are invaluable - use them! She is always willing to help. This class is difficult, but work hard and you will succeed.

I have to say that I once enjoyed English. But upon taking this class, I no longer do! She is the harshest grader that I've ever seen! She will look upon your work and grade each and every detail. I've never had a C in any class. But I ended up with one with hers. If you are not ready for a tough class, then avoid her courses completely!

Best english teacher I've ever had super helpful and super friendly. Lots of busy work in the class though, stay on point.

I took her 8 wk online compressed goth lit class, it was difficult at times, I completed the Essays and achieved an A in each assignment without issue. The people complaining about her being a tough grader must have had too much work in other coarses. I got an A and didnt read the required MLA, argumentation and writing/revising works. Recommended!

I'm taking her online class this semester. This class requires weekly readings and 1 essay per week. The class isn't hard but it is very demanding! Do not take her if you dislike or hate writing! Overall the class was easy to follow as she sticks to the point and makes everything due on the same days. This class is exactly what everyone else says.

The class was quite easy, but there was a lot of work.

Shes super smart, just a real pleasure to listen to. She DOES assign a lot of reading, but honestly you only need to read it if theres to be a writing assignment on it. All of which is disclosed in the syllabus. I am a person that extremely hates writing, so I appreciate that there are only 4 major essays and then trivial minor assignments.

Professor Malsam is very precise on what she expects from the get go. There is a TON of reading and discussion posts. She is very passionate about Gothic Literature so if you aren't interested, don't take the class. Overall she communicates great, and I loved taking her class. She's awesome! Do your work and don't procrastinate and you'll be fine!

Although the reading is simple, there is a LOT of it. Prepare to set aside about 3-4 hours a week aside just for reading. This being said, she is very specific in her syllabus and weekly modules as to what is expected. If you follow the instructions and turn your work in on time, you will do fine. She is a great teacher. One of the best one's I've had thus far. I took a hybrid course. Which is essentially like an online class where 95% of your work is done outside of class. Expect a lot of reading. I am currently in this class. It is easy but I do not recommend this class for someone who is not self-motivated and procrastinates a lot.

Professor Malsam has been an unbelievable inspiration to my college experience. She loves her science fiction literature. She is clear on what she wants, gives great feedback, and she truly loves her profession. Show up and do your assignments. Assignments reflect big on her essays. Emily Malsam, a true gem when it comes to english instructors.

Always willing to elaborate and is available outside of class. Class participation really helps. The more your involved the more she is as well. Mostly open book quizzes which was great for my short term memory. Lots of reading but good choice of books.

Professor Malsam responded to my emails within a day's time and answered my questions. The students that degrade her classes obviously didn't put the effort into making a good grade. Follow the rubrics for the essays and the directions for the discussions and you will do great. She is kind, personable, and helpful. I would highly recommend her!

Emily was soooooo good. She is really helpful, I took her hybrid class and literally cried because her 101 class was booked for next semester. I had to retake this class because i had a professor who didn't seem to care much about her students (won't name any names) but taking it again with Emily really made my fear of this class go away!!

I took her for ENGL50 is the fall semester of 2017, and this semester i took another teacher for 101 and ended up dropping the class. I really regret not taking her for 101 this semester. You do essays mostly on novels, which for me is WAY better than doing a research paper. I can guarantee i will be in her ENGL101 class this fall.

I'm so glad I took this class with Malsam. The class is set up for you to succeed. There is a lot of reading, but you can use youtube and a library card for it all. She gives extra credit and is very thorough. You can tell she genuinely cares about the success of her students in the class. I wish I had taken her for all my english classes!

Emily is an amazing professor! I had not written a paper in 15 years but she went through the basic Do's and Don'ts in English 50. She always gave great fed back and had TIME for her students. She is dedicated to making you a better writer without being hard on you. Loved her Philisophical views & her energy is great! She helped me in so many ways.

Professor Malsam was a decent professor. There were 4 essays the last one had to be at least 7 pages and the final was also an essay. Despite the amount of essays, i really liked this class. Professor Malsam is very caring and wants you to suceed.

I took Children's lit online. LOVED her class. Lots of hw and lots of reading. I loved every minute of it. I like that she gives you choices of what to read in most assignments. I loved sharing these hw assignments with my kids. They loved doing "hw with mommy" I highly recommend taking her class if you really want to explore and work hard.

Prof. Malsam is the best English teacher I've ever had. She made each class so exciting and I looked forward to coming to class. The homework was tough, but she still gave credit for late work. She knows what she's talking about and she's so enthusiastic. I had an anxiety attack in class and after she talked to me and helped me feel so much better.

This wasn't my first online course, but it was the first one where I actually felt that the professor was a human being. Malsam is kind and responds to emails very quickly. There's a lot of assigned reading but you go through it quickly because it's entertaining (and for kids). Easy grader. Lots of extra credit. If you do the work then you'll pass.

Professor Malsam is wonderful: Responds quickly to emails, gives feedback, and SO many extra credit opportunities. The reading is easy, but there is a LOT of it (children's novels, picture books, etc.) so be prepared to manage your time accordingly and visit the library. She lets you express your opinions on the books you read, which I appreciated.

I LOVED this class. I took it my first semester when I was 16 and it was the best Engl class I could have taken. You only read Gothic literature (fantastic!) and the essays were genuinely interesting to write. She is a tough grader, though. Avoid her if you hate gothic lit and/or are not super comfortable writing essays. But take her if you can!

Malsam is honestly the sweetest should ever. She is a professor that is really passionate about what she's teaching. You can easily tell by her body language and how her face lights up! She's an awesome professor.

Professor Malsam was amazing! She really explained the novels we read and really cared about the success of her students. We read two novels and a poem and wrote a total of four essays. She played music every day as we entered class and you could tell that she really enjoyed her job. The class was based on Gothic Literature and was very interesting

This is one of the best classes I have ever taken. There is a lot of reading and many assignments with the weekly discussions being about 300 words each. I have learned so much from this course. Professor Malsam really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I definitely recommend her and will be taking some of her other courses.

I signed up for her folklore online class for the summer and didnt know much of what I was going to learn. I ended up enjoying the class very much. Theres lots of material and the class is fast paced but still doable and enjoyable; just dont slack. Shes v caring and she shows lots of grace. Shes great & you can tell she has love for her work!

Very sweet lady. Just a lot of books to read. Although children books but too much work. Very flexible grader and teacher regarding your grades and any circumstances that come up.

Professor Malsam is a great instructor! I took her Children's Literature class, which was fun. The workload is not bad as long as you're prepared ahead of time. She also responds to my emails very quickly (within the hour).

Accepts late work and wants all her students to pass. Textbook and the assigned books are interesting, cried a couple times. Homework and articles for discussion can seem like a lot, but honestly I never really read through the 5+ page ones, and did fine on the discussions. Really enjoyable class and teacher, and would definitely take again.

Really fun class! A bit of reading but not too bad. The teacher is very nice, respectful, and understanding. 8/10 would take this class again. The only thing that gets boring is the prompts, they all seem to be very similar.

In the summer class be aware that you have to read 2 chapter books a week. The discussions are extremely long but the quizzes are word for word from the textbook. She offers lots of extra credit. There was 1 essay but the final was really long. It was 10 short answer questions and 2 essay questions. Easy reading but lot of work.

Great teacher but be prepared to work! The class was fun but challenging. She taught me a lot and I would definitely take it again to challenge myself.

She is amazing, super understanding and kind, and cool. The overall theme for Engl101 is terror and horror which I thoroughly enjoyed. The homework mainly consists of discussion posts. We did watch a few old movies which was super cool. Totally recommend her!

Gives full credit for late work. Quizzes not too hard. Only ONE mandatory essay worth 30% final grade. Can choose either Final Exam Essay or interactive reading journal(16 journal entries total). LOTS of reading though. 2-7 children's books per week (summer course). Not hard work, just time consuming. Assignments+discussions easy to follow.

Taken Fall 22'. This is by far the COOLEST english class ever and I will rave about this professor and class until the end of time. She allows you to rewrite essays for better grades and sits with you and REALLY teaches you to be a better writer. I became the writer I am today because of her. I can not recommend Em enough as your instructor!

Professor Malsam was great! My class was horror/terror themed which I found very fun! My class was hybrid so there was a once a week meeting sometimes involving group projects, nothing too difficult. Not too much work however she's a tough grader! Take into account her criticism so you can improve, my essays have improved drastically since.

Professor Malsam is amazing - she really cares about her students and makes the Gothic lit theme engaging. The workload is manageable with helpful feedback. I found unstuck ai great for exam prep alongside the course materials.

I really enjoyed this English class especially since the theme was horror/terror. She's a great professor! She gave us discussions and readings each week which was pretty easy. I did struggle with the essays (3) since I do struggle on them. I also enjoyed watching the movies she gave us, really recommend actually watching them!

The class was pretty interesting with a horror/terror theme. It felt like there were a lot of assignments, but it was also a seven-week class. Your grade is completely based on the three essays that she grades tough, no matter what, but I do think this class made me a better writer.

She is a great professor in my opinion. She gives feedback on every assignment, and you have the opportunity to revise the essays. You have three essays total, and they are a big percent of your grade, but again, you can revise. There are five question quizzes as well, and a good amount of reading. I personally loved the class, so I recommend it

Professor Malsam is a great professor. She assigns a lot of reading, but usually only a few assignments a week, so it's very manageable. She responds to emails very quickly, often within the first twelve or twenty-four hours. She cares for her students and always has interesting things to read that actually matter.
