Really awesome professor. Definitely requires you to do a ton of studying outside of class, but tests are true to the material she teaches in lecture and lab. NOT an east A, but worth it because she really tries to make the material clear enough for you to pass as long as you put in the work.
Professor Gunhan is really nice and has a ton of knowledge on the subject, but she is not the greatest at teaching. Her lectures are not well organized and requires a TON of outside tools in order to learn the material. Clear grading criteria, but she needs to offer more assignments besides tests to help with understanding and application.
Super knowledgeable teacher. She is a medical doctor from Turkey and has never been unable to answer one of my questions. That said, she teaches challenging subject matter. She gives you all the tools to succeed and leaves the rest to you. Lectures are interesting and she genuinely enjoys teaching.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had!! I took this class previously at a university and did better. There is no reason a class at a community college should be harder than at a CSU! Absolutely ridiculous. 80% of the class has dropped and she doesn't feel extra credit is ever necessary.
She's really nice and wants to help but is often very unclear. Her lectures are long and the study guide is a bullet point form of her lectures (in other words it's hard to know what to study). Her quizzes (which are worth a good chunk of your grade) are harder than her tests, and are every week. Didn't learn as much as I hoped I would
HARDEST CLASS EVER. She is extremley intelligent so if you are studying to be a doctor then take her, if not STAY AWAY. I studied day and night and ended with an 88 percent in the class. She doesn't believe in extra credit or rounding so my gpa is ruined. Her lectures are hard to understand because of her accent and she talks fast. The tests suck!!
Great professor. That said, she is an MD and she is incredibly knowledgeable. This makes her courses particularly difficult. I would recommend her to anyone who truly loves the medical sciences or has aspirations to work in the medical field at a high level of care. Know the study guides by heart (no small feat), and you should get a good grade.
The facts: lectures , or more precisely, reads directly off the pdf's with no supporting info. or examples written on the board, no extra credit, no reviews for exams, extremely late in posting study guides, does not know cardiac. Nice woman however your gpa will drop if you manage to even pass. Not all doctors are meant to teach..
Emine is a great person, however, we're not in class to experience her personality; we're there to learn. With that said, she is not a great professor. Yeah sure, she may be "knowledgeable," but doesn't contain the knowledge to teach. Power points are unorganized. Tests are all over the place. Study Guides should say "all of it." Super difficult.
Emine is an amazing professor. She really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. The class is difficult but she makes it manageable by providing study guides for exams and good examples. She also offers lots of bonus points to boost your grade so it is definitely possible to get an A. GO TO OPEN LAB! That will get you a good grade.
Very knowledgeable but horrible teacher, thick accent, asks hard and tricky questions on the exams, not straight forward, 85% of the grade are exams, very detailed info on exams, study guide is basically everything! Do not recommend her if other choices are there. Hybrid lectures are so long! Boring! Almost the worst class ever!
Hybrid Physio with really long and confusing lectures, labs are ok, exams are really challenging if you can figure out what the questions are asking, lots of critical thinking, grade is 4 exams, choose a different prof to save yourself the stress of this one. What ever grade you usually get in bio classes, this one will be one grade below that.
Amazing professor. Disregard the negative slackers. If you cannot pass this class you do not deserve to be in the medical field. Pursue another major. No professor should lower their standards to fulfill your unrealistic dreams. Dr Gunhan is very knowledgable and has been more helpful then any of my other bio teachers. Tests are straight forward.
So crappy, really tough grader, her accent is okay, but she seems unfriendly and is a tough grader. Took the online hybred and it was okay, but get ready for 4+ hours a week of lecture every week.
If you need an A for your GPA I would look elsewhere. The majority of your grade is from 4 lecture and lab exams and spelling matters. Her grading and coursework don't seem to be on par with the other Anatomy teachers.
She is a really sweet professor, she had to take over the place of the original professor I had. She means well but the subject is just hard. Hybrid, take any time available after class to ask questions. Every print out or any thing mentioned you should know and study for your exams. Quizzes are easier than exams. Lecture is heavy but doable.
Great professor and very knowledgeable in the subject. Sierra is lucky to have her as a professor. Study your lab and lectures thoroughly and you will do great on the tests.
Dr. Gunhan is an amazing person. About those that complained, it is not the professor who is difficult but the subject. If you think you deserve to be in the medical field, "skating by" will not work for you no matter whose class you take. Complaining about a professor when you lack the basic discipline to study your material wont get you far.
Professor Gunhan is a great professor. Her class is very straight forward. Physiology is a very complex study. Professor Gunhan doesn't try to make it any harder than it already is by giving a ridiculous amount of work. She doesn't give tricky exams. Everything that is on the exam is in her lectures. She tests you on the main points.
Dr. Gunhan is amazing! She's so smart and is very fair. I took her for anatomy (fall) & physio (summer, yes only 8 weeks) & passed both with an A! Lots of hard work but she gives you all you need to pass with an A! Exams are fair and she genuinely cares for her students and biology! Would definitely take her again. Wish she taught more classes lol
I love her as a person and a professor! Of course her class is hard, its physiology! You have to work hard and study no matter who you take. Her class is wonderful because the subject matter is interesting and she knows what shes talking about. The first 2 exams are killer, but she eases up as the semester goes on.
She is amazing, cares so much about her students success. Her test are straight from her lectures and study guide. She gives out the most specific and detail study guides, so if you know how to answer those questions, you should be able to get an A very easily. She gives plenty of X-creds in quiz&test, so don't freak out, YOU WILL DO FINE.
Prof Gunhan is excellent. Subject matter is hard no matter who you take, but she cares so much and is always available for help. You must study your butt off to get an A, but she doesn't make it impossible. Not going to lie, it was REALLY hard. Final is cumulative, so prepare early. Gunhan was really nice and approachable, I highly recommend!
Anatomy is a difficult subject to begin with, like most people know. You need to be prepared to study often and constantly throughout the semester. The nice thing is the final exams (lab and lecture) are only on the last unit, not cumulative. Her tests and quizzes are out of her lecture notes. No study guide. Just don't be lazy and you'll pass.
The only thing I didn't like about this class is that we had only 4 tests. Yeah it must sound nice to you, but there is SO much material, so all 4 tests are CRAMMED with SO MUCH INFORMATION. Weekly quizzes. My recommendation to everyone reading this is STUDY as soon as you learn the information. Look over your notes after class and STUDY.
This was the only professor available when I was signing up for classes, and I wish I had waited until a different semester with a different teacher to take this class . Better off teaching myself from the textbook than using her poorly organized recorded lectures. Exams held at 7:45am in a different room, when scheduled class meets at 11am.
<3 the more flexible hybrid course. Her accent wasn't hard to understand and she cares a lot about students and wants to point u towards all of the resources available. U will have to work HARD but u will succeed and walk out feeling so accomplished. Liked that there was only 4 exams but a quiz about every week. Will be taking her for BIO 6! :)
Easy class, I took her for 5X. You do a learning module every week except the week before an exam. We would get a free study session in the lab which is nice. HEr accent wasn't that bad, but her e-mails typically had some grammatical errors.
First of all, she's pretty funny and approachable. Her accent isn't that bad at all. You're going to have to study A LOT! She's a very tough grader when it comes to the tests. Quizzes & homeworks were easy and she's more lenient on grading those. Her study guides are useless. Most of the materials on them, you're never going to see on the test.
I took her online hybrid class and it was more convenient than being in a physical lecture. If you are stuck on something, she will help! There are 6 midterms and 1 final. Midterms range from 70- 95 pts and final is 195 pts. Do well on the labs! They will give you a cushion. There are two extra credit assignments for a total of 5 pts.
Will fail you, if you miss three labs. Will not curve your grade, even tho the ENTIRE class is failing<--(I wish I was kidding). Kind? Yes. Very intelligent professor. A good teacher? no. She does not set you up for success. It is sad, more than anything. She is very strict, felt like HS.
I took her Hybrid Anatomy class last semester. Anatomy is basically just memorizing models and concepts, you basically teach yourself. She is very caring and wants to help, however she can sometimes be un clear on what we need to study for so I say learn it all. She also makes you purchase a Lab&MAstering account and you have homework every week.
She was hypocritical. Let other students miss entire labs but would be mad if you had to leave 15 mins early for an appointment. Allowed few students to miss more than 6 labs but would say she would drop anyone else if they tried to miss labs. Hard to understand and unfair grading. doesn't care about having students pass.
Yes- this is a difficult class. But also... this is college, a prereq for health careers, & anatomy is HARD. I think many complaining have unrealistic expectations. This is an extremely fast paced class with a TON of memorizing. Emine does her best to set you up for success. She gives you the necessary tools but it's up to you to put in the work.
Nice person but grading criteria and expectations were unclear and inconsistent. The class I took was a hybrid with lecture being online and lab being in person. She often lectured for the majority of the lab period. Very tough grader. She is clearly very intelligent about the subject but doesn't always deliver the information in the best way.
She was out of the country for the first 8 weeks for a family emergency, and when she returned the entire class average dropped a whole letter grade. Online lectures are an endurance contest, many long pauses, information that is not on the exams, and reads the powerpoint word for word. Ridiculous amount of work, and an unfair grader.
I took her physio class over summer. it was hybrid. First off, hybrid means lecture online. She gave lecture exams online but required webcam so no cheating. She was gone the first two weeks and came back and it was hard to catch up. Her exams are really hard and her online lectures are boring. She takes the whole 4 hours of lab so no leaving early
If you need BIO6, take it with someone else. You can't prepare properly for her exams because she uses a test bank. The hours you spend listening to her lectures are useless. The lab/homework grades don't help because they are only worth minimal amounts of points while her exams are heavily weighted. Get ready to take this class twice.
I took this prof thinking I could handle it regardless of her rating (I'm a B student). I couldn't. Her exams are extremely difficult nothing close to her study guides. She's not helpful and She gives 9 lectures online a week that are hours long to finish. Trust me when I say to find another prof. You want to pass skip this teacher for this class.
I wish I had taken a different professor instead of her. Her lecture exams are not too bad as long as you study, but the multiple choice exams are killer. Her study guides are useless and half of what is on there isn't even on the test. She is nice, but she grades way too hard, even on the homework.
The very first day of class Emine questioned us on our plans and when someone didn't have a back up plan she immediately was on them out the fact that they need one cause they're likely to drop out of their original plan. The tests make or break your grade and they aren't even related to the study guide. She get annoyed when you ask questions. BAD
I took the hybrid course. On the 1st day of class she told us, "if you want an A, you will study 20 hours a week." This was the truth. I studied all the time. I met with her during office hours and she was more than willing to help. I emailed her throughout the semester with questions and she replied quickly. She's great but get ready to work.
I took this professor for both Anatomy and Physiology! I enjoy her personality; she is very knowledgeable. Some may argue she is too hard of a grader. However, I feel she prepares you well for whatever direction you are planning to go into as it will only get more difficult. It is challenging, but if you dedicate the time & effort, you can succeed.
Physiology is by far my favourite science class not only because of understanding how the body works but because Prof. G made us think and made it fun to think! I loved participating because she would rather you participate and try then to be quiet where you cant be helped. Shes very knowledgeable, funny & encouraging. Shes AWESOME!!
Professor Gunhan is a very nice person but a bad teacher. Her study guides do not help you prepare for the exams at all. She talks about things that do not have to do with what we need to know to pass the class. The only grades are exams and quizzes, so it makes the class very hard to pass. I would not take a class taught by her again.
This professor is awful. Please trust me on this. I'm a decent student but I took this class and couldn't get higher than a C so I withdrew. I took Physio with a Dif prof and got an A. She doesn't care about you or your grades. Her lectures are difficult to understand the info is not simplified. Please wait for a better prof don't settle or rush..
Literally the worst teacher I have ever had the displeasure of having. Please heed my warning and AVIOD HER AT ALL COST. She is incredibly rude and hard to deal with, especially during this pandemic. If I could rate 0/5 I would.
I recommend not taking her class. Incredibly tough grader picks out the smallest issues which affect your grade heavily. Gives a study guide but they're incredibly long and outlines lots of material that aren't even on the exams, so they are useless. Not accommodating or sympathetic towards students in the least. Your best will not be good enough.
Study guides dont match the exams. Exams are lengthy and adequate time not given. False accusations made by the professor. If you can pick any other professor, I recommend you do. Her review should be a 1.
She uses proctorio, reviews the footage 4+ times. gives you a 0 because she thinks* you cheated. Proctorio won't give you the footage, she won't show you the footage as proof. So, basically, if she thinks you cheat, too bad, you get a 0.
Monotone voice, reads off slides & repeats it using different wording, takes forever to say what she is trying to say, "student hours/discussions" don't help, ask questions & she takes it offensively/not reply. Tough lab grader, answers are never good enough, have to be a mind reader. You have to figure out what info to know from MyLab & Mastering
I took Emine online fall 2020. Her online lecture was very disorganized. Her videos were very long and she would forget points and say "oh I forgot to say this" you also had an additional book to read and take quizzes for. Her study guides are not clear to the test and do not help much. I am a good student but there is too much disorganization here
This class is hard. To get an A you must be exceptionally dedicated and willing to put in many hours a week. It must be your priority. I would not work full time. That said, I feel her toughness will prepare you if you are heading into med/nursing school as it will only get harder. I felt she was fair and with enough hard work, you can get the A
I LOVED this class, the most interesting one yet! Her lectures were long but detailed. 2-4 lectures a week, some HW, a lab, and just studying. If you work very hard you can succeed. There are 7 tests- the last being cumulative. Tests are tough so you MUST study, they are worth a lot. She gave 5-15 total pts EC on unit tests. I put in 20-30 hours/wk
literally the worst teacher i have ever taken. Her tests have nothing to do with her study guide. her lecture videos are very confusing and she is not organized what so ever. you have a cumulative test at the end of the semester that is very heavily graded. she uses procturio very strictly, makes you use a mirror as well. she makes you feel stupid
Emine is not that bad. This is a tough class and you better be prepared to study. It takes up almost all my time. Her lectures are long but that's what she tests on. Her study guides are long but if you know them you'll totally pass. She's always willing to help. This class would have been even better if it was on campus but it's doable online.
Long lectures, the study guide has nothing to do with her tests, homework takes awhile but it is easy. Hw doesn't help you learn the subject. She talks about things that have nothing to do with what is on the test. The test are very hard and she is a very tough graded especially on the written tests and the labs. There is extra credit.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! She is not only hard to understand but she only reads from the slides and I never understood anything she taught. Had to do my own self-teaching from youtube. Her tests aren't clear and she doesn't respond in timely manner. She doesn't set you up to succeed but rather fail. She is also OCD with proctorio.
Tough grader, lecture videos drag but are necessary because test Qs are based on lectures and labs. Study guides are four pages long but not everything is on exam. Her online exams have lots of glitches that affect performances on test, but she will only dismiss your concerns. She's very paranoid about cheating and has EXCESSIVE precautions.
Expressed my concern to her multiple times on how to study for this course and didnt help. Had an issue with my group participating and she tells me I could just work by myself. Will grade labs and just say its wrong and doesnt say why its wrong with no context. Just says check your notes. Grades labs the day before an exam leaving you waiting.
Bio 6 is a rigorous course that requires a lot of time invested. Emine is a great professor. She knows her material and does a great job explaining it. She is organized and responsive. The materials can be overwhelming, but she sets clear expectations. If you are willing to put in the work, you can do well in her class.
lab/lecture exam 100points each, 2 parts some lab/lecture exams have extra credit. lectures are long, tests on EVERYTHING in the lecture videos, and models. she states that she uses the lab packet for guidance for the lab and lecture exams. expects you to get it right away, if you fall behind, very hard to catch up. exams are very heavily on grade
study guides do NOT help on tests. she wants you to know EVERYTHING for that unit, and it will be on the test. EVERYTHING in the lecture is on the test, in some way, shape, and form. studying is a must. do not recommend this class. awful. tough grader.
If you are interested in applying to the nursing program at Sierra, do not take this class with Emine. Shes a horrible professor and you will end up with a terrible grade. Then, you will need to take the class again, and Sierra will take 5 points off of your nursing application for having to repeat the class. Avoid Emine at all costs.
This teacher is very bad at teaching you what will be on the test. You’re expected to do some much extra work just to know your stuff. I am normally an A-B student and have even taken hard classes but this course is something different. The class average on tests are below 70% and she blames us and never herself for it
This class is hard and it is hard to achieve a good grade like a A but if you work for it a B is easily doable. If you have a question or something comes up last second she will accommodate!! Very rare in teachers. This class is hard but I personally loved how sweet and how helpful she was. Plus the extra credit on homework helped balanced my grade
This teacher grades way too hard for someone with a very think accent who can't pronounce things correctly herself. She once marked off my class mate for not putting an s at the end of her word, that's extreme and excessive. She demands 20 plus hours to be put in for only her class, so don't have a job or kids or other classes or a life in anyway.
I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that all negative comments below are left by entitled students that possess 0 grit, 0 work-ethic, and nothing but academic indifference. I know this because I watched you all whine and moan before dropping the class and blaming this fantastic professor for trying to help you succeed. Shame on all of you.
Anatomy is hard but that's because of the subject, not because of the professor. She cares about her students' success and is willing to work with you. As we struggled through harder units she asked us how she could help us be more successful. She changed quiz content and class structure to suit our needs which reflected in our improved scores.
I would take another anatomy class with a different professor. She is very passive aggressive at times. One thing I hated about her class was if there was a quiz or exam, she never went over it because there was "no time" so you will never be able to see what you missed. She is the worst professor I've ever had and do not recommend taking her class
I don't really recommend taking physiology with this teacher. She is a very nice person but the class was very overwhelming. Lectures were all online and had hours worth of information to memorize every week. There ended up being about 300 or more terms you have to memorize every exam and you only needed to know for every exam. Choose someone else.
Currently taking her Bio5 class & she truly is not bad. Lectures are online & long but also has ALOT of practice tests that help with memorizing structures. Weekly quiz/exam. Quiz is taken individually and as a group (extra points to indiv. score). No busy work & she is there to support you. Doing good so far but this is my ONLY class.
She is a great teacher and cares about her students, if you are a person to ask obvious questions and not take the time to use critical thinking skills then you will not do well in any anatomy/bio class so do not try. It is a hard class for a reason so be prepared and quit expecting it to be easy. And yes spelling matters, deal with it.
I took my chances w/ her as she was the last resort, wish I hadn't now I've got to repeat the class. You'll have a quiz every week worth 20 points, based off of two to three 30-1hr lecture videos a week. Wish we had a chance to at least retake unit exams as I've heard other professors allow so. Her course layout should be improved.
Professor Emine has an ability to explain complex anatomy concepts in a clear and engaging way, ensuring that all students grasp the material and always on the side of her students. She treats everyone with respect and creates a safe space where all students feel comfortable regardless of their immigration status or any other differences.
3 hours of lectures easy every week, tons of worksheets that were somehow harder to find the information for than the tests, her study guides aren't even really guides, she just expects you to study all the information, good luck
She is a cool person and she can explain anything to you if you have the questions for it. Enough worksheets eliminate the redwoods and some were very easy and others I had spent almost 5 hours doing. Small exams werent the worst and exams had both multi choice and written. Multi choice wasnt too bad and written was not fun at all. Hard class.
I decided to take a risk with her since she was my last option, but I now regret it because I have to retake the class. There will be a quiz every week, worth 20 points, based on two to three 1-hour lecture videos each week. I really wish we had the chance to retake unit exams, like I've heard other professors allow.
Each week comes with three easy hours of lectures, but the worksheets are surprisingly harder to figure out than the actual tests. Her study guides aren't much help either basically just a list of everything you need to study. Good luck with that!
taking emine for physiology will teach you the meaning of hard work and dedication. If you want an A you must turn this class into your whole life. Your weekends and free time will have to center around this class. Having said that, emine is incredibly supportive and a genius in her field. I'll remember most of this classes material for years
Tbh I can see why a lot dislike her but she's really good, it's physiology it's hard and too much information, she does what a university class would be. Her test is hard but tbh I just studied the whole night or two days before and I get B+ sometimes A her lab activity (which is by group) worth a lot of points but not her quizzes which sucks.
I barely got into this class and I'm really glad I did because I throughly enjoyed it. She is a great communicator and simplifies what could be a very difficult subject. Every morning she makes us laugh and helps lighten the day and get us ready for the material. She also is very flexible if you have family issues. She offers open labs too!
Don't let the negative reviews discourage you. Mrs. G is one of the nicest professors I know and is truly passionate about what she teaches. The class itself IS difficult and IS a lot of work / memorization. You move fast, but it's on you to watch the lectures and participate in the labs, and she's always there to help if you need it.
Professor G is an amazing professor who actually cares about her students well being and success. The class is extremely hard and you have to read outside the lectures but she helps simplify things and makes you aware of what's important for that unit. You have to work hard to get a good grade but she makes class fun and enjoyable
