She seemed like she was not very interested in the material herself, so she could not spark any level of interest to the students. Take notes from slides is all we did in class. BORING!
She is awesome in my book!! I took her for summer A, and it was not that bad. You must SUTDY!!!! If u do, you will have no problem! No tricks on tests, she tells you what to focus on. I got a B. Im happy.
Didn't offer a lot of help, but was always helpful if asked. Mostly, she just presented the material. Seems like she knows chemistry better than Earth Science, and I took her Earth Science class. She offered some extra credit, and dropped the lowest quiz grade. If you read the chapters and study the notes well you'll get an A.
Don't take her class unless you know all the material before you take the class. She doesn't know how to teach and is very very strict. You must leave her class in lab if you don't wear clothing to her strict specifications and receive a grade of 0
chow is a good professor.organic is not an easy class, but she does a good job going over and clarifying things. her tests are not easy but she never tests you on something that she hasn't gone over. she just expects you to study and understand the material. organic is not a memorizing class. read the book do the hw and you will be fine
Shes not an easy professor. You must work for your grade.
if u have not take chem in high school dn't take her for introductory chem she is to damn fast.
Shoe knows her stuff. You CANNOT miss any classes or you'll get really far behind. All notes need to be printed from her web page. Homework is due at time of test. It's not hard if you attend classes and ask questions when you're lost! She is always willing to answer questions!
SHE KNOWS CHEM, AND SHE IS VERY GOOD AT TEACHING. HOWEVER, YOU HAVE TO STUDY ON YOUR OWN TIME AS WELL. IF YOU DON'T ASK QUESTIONS SHE WILL GO FAIRLY QUICKLY, BUT IF YOU LET HER KNOW YOU HAVE AN ISSUE SHE WILL SLOW IT DOWN. THAT SAID ASK THE SAME QUESTION MORE THAN A COUPLE TIMES AND SHE WILL GET ANNOYED. OF THE CHM PROF AT PBCC LW, SHE IS THE BEST!
she takes the time to teach each individual person until it is understood by everyone. she has so much patience and is very kind. she also teaches with clarity and applies everything to the modern world today
If you are not that comfortable or a novice with Prealgebra, this is not the teacher you want. She will be useless to you. When she teaches it is though she is doing it out of a perfunctory manner. She is like, if I can be doing something else, I would. But you know, I do what I have to.. this is my perception of this women. I'm not impressed at all.
I love her! shez by far the best chemistry professor i evr came across nd its VERY hard to find a good professor like tht. she duz go pretty fast at sum points but if u pay attention, u shud b fine. i took 3 classes w/ her in one semester and gona take 2 next semester.! yes, u do hafta study nd work for ur grade but u do learn in the class :)
She is beyond the best Chemistry professor. Mrs. Chow is so good that I am taking her next semester & lab w/ her. She is SUPER helpful and yes you do have to study for her test. Hw and quizes help boost your grade. Doesnt mind answering the same question and goes over everything thouroughly! ABSOLUTELY the BEST!
This professor rocks!!!! You have to attend classes to understand the material. She gives homework and quizzes to boost your grade up. She is very helpful, she goes pretty fast but if you tell her to slow down she will. Overall, just study her powerpoints and you will do fine. she is the best organic chemistry teacher at pbcc. Thanks! Mrs.Chow
I wouldn't call her a teacher. More like a reviewer. She goes way to fast. Assumes you already know the material. To make it worse she has a bad attitude, and talks down to students. Unless you want to teach yourself Do Not Take Her!
good professor, u hafta come to class nd pay attention nd study on ur own time..her tests r ridiculous at times but final is usually very ez..but shez by far the best chem teacher
This professor is the best by far! Organic Chem is NOT easy and you must do your part by going to class, doing the homework she assigns, and studying. She helps her students as much as she can!
If you want to know the real truth, I have one of her classes right now and I gotta say, she goes extremely fast, I don't think anybody is passing her class because she rarely teaches or go over the problem. I took her just because I listen to these people on here. I wouldn't take her again, I could find somebody better who will actually teach!
RUDE!!! VERY RUDE!!! Don't like to explanin twice. Students have caught her mistakes on the pc tablet. it takes her couple of minutes to understand her own mistakes. Doesn't seem to like to teach. Goes fast and miss steps on lecture. For lab she doesn't teach and expects you to leave in 10-15 minutes. I have not learned anything in her classes
The worst professor in the world...she has the worst attitude and hates teaching. She reviews everything instead of actually teaching it..and is very nasty and mean if you dont understand..Do not take!!!! Trust me
I find Chemistry hard in general, but I believe shes a good teacher bcoz she Pushes you as a student. She is not an easy teacher but shes good. You reallyy have to know your material. She does go fast but you will be warned. Ask questions and be bold. For lab shes really cool unless you dont know what you're doing.
Professor Chow is very intelligent. Yes she does go fast and expects you to know everything but, its chemistry you have to study a lot and make sure you understand the material to pass her tests. You have to be disciplined and try your hardest. Ive never taken CHM in my life and i got an A in her class. Gives partial points on test
The first time I've taken her was in CHM 1046. She is by far the best CHM professor in PBSC. Organic chm is not easy and needs a lot of studying and practicing. My advice is to take her, attend class, do your homework, and review your notes..and believe me you will like organic CHM. I am taking her now for CHM2211L and wish that she gives lec. too
Hard!
Don't get me wrong here. She is an excellent teacher IF you're 100% dedicated spending your entire energy and focus paying attention to her. She teaches with this scolding impression that makes you feel inadequately prepared and angry in the inside for trying. Although she's one of the better chem teach. at pbcc, DO NOT take her lightly.
please!! do not take!!
AWFUL! reads the powerpoints does not teach anything. no patience for any questions asked. always puts in trick questions on the test she never went over. AVOID HER SHE SHOULD NOT BE A TEACHER!!!!!!
Well, I waited for two semestres to take chemistry with this professor thinking she was a great professor and she will help out if I never needed. Turns out she has no interest in helping you out only to certain people and others she ignores. I was one of those she ignored and I don't think I will take her again even though I did get a good grade.
Organic Chem is hard. No way around it but when you combine a difficult subject with a lazy, uninterested teacher who thinks making a confusing subject even more convoluted=teaching, you get Emma Chow. Even worse than Thomas Anton- and that's saying something. Sorry but I've had a lot of teachers and that's how it seemed here.
she is not what most people here claim she is. I got in the class thinking that imma die from stress. class was hard, but she is SO helpful. first test, got a C, wasnt happy, second got a low B, and the last three i got A's, i finished with an A, lots of extra credits. all those who r complaining are those who got bad grades.
in my opinion this might possibly be the hardest teacher to pass. i did every hw assignment, and attended every class, and studied alot for the tests, which had nothing she said would be on there, she tricks you, then wont show you the test if you ask for it back to see where you went wrong
Great Professor, explains well. However you must dedicate time to her assignments. She does not accept questions readily. I worked hard and made a high A. (General Chemistry)
I didn't believe when I read the comments about her, but she's really useless, and not helpfull at all. She has a bad attitute toward students, and thinks that she's superior. Her tests are tricky, she's too fast and confusing and she DO NOT TEACH the material, she just solve questions on the board without teaching the concepts. what a waste of time
Best chemistry professor on campus. Clearly explains material during class. Goes a bit fast at times. Understanding and helpful. Tests are straightfoward if you study hard. Homework taken for a grade. Highly recommended.
She does tend to go a little fast, but she will slow down and go over material untill the class understands. Gives very easy to understand concepts. you have to be willing to do her work to follow and succeed in her class, she gives extra practice before tests, and altough yes she is rough around the edges, but is geniunely passionate for chemistry
OMG dont take this woman for lab!!! worst mistake you will ever make. I've never worked so hard for a class just to get a D. I have zeros for things that SHE NEVER TOLD US TO TURN IN. And she'll freak out if you ask her about it. Please don't make the same mistake I did, Don't take her for Lab. You will regret it.
this prof is not bad . she tries hard to help the students but her test and lectures dont corolate. it very hard to understand her class unless you like chemiry and have taken other classes similar to it
She can teach well, but she teaches you one thing and tests you on another. Her tests are flipped around so you can do all the hw probs and notes over again but youll probably only get a C. She goes too fast so its hard to get a question in, and then your lost. If you miss something, it was probably on the test.
Very good teacher. Took her for chem1 and lab. Just pay attention and do not do the homework last minute. She has no problem answering any questions you may and probably will have. Ignore the bad ratings. Everyone who is giving her bad ratings are not very good students.
She is a good professor. She is also very hot!!
BY FAR THE BEST CHEM PROF! i have no idea what these ppl are talking about, the way she lays out her notes is in a way that it all flows, yes the subject is tough, but all her quizes prep you for exams and are mostly multp. choice. Not to mention come straight from her notes! I would highly recommend!
She is so far the only Chem teacher that can ACTUALLY TEACH! it is one thing to KNOW the subject, but to TEACH it takes skills, and this class in 6 weeks I thought would be insane, it is so far my fav. chem class!
I will take Orgo over Gen Chem any day! with that said, I wouldn't take it with anyone but Chow. She's so helpfull, and really tries to make you understand. Quizes are not too hard, but prepare you for exams and come straight from her notes.
She is an awesome professor. I highly recommend her. Her class is not an easy but if you study hard and attend class regularly you can get an "A".
I took her for the CHM1046 lab and she was great. She is very passionate professor, so she was very helpful and took her time to make sure you understand what you had to do and the result you will get.
great class. chemistry is bound to be a hard subject but she makes it as easy on you as possible. the first time i took this class with sapna gupta i had to withdraw but with chow, I got an A without killing myself. she assigns way less homwork thn gupta and her tests are easier too
I took her for Organic Chem lab this past fall 2011 semester and she really has relaxed a lot. I got an A. She's really helpful and I will be taking her again next semester for organic 2.
So far the best teacher for chemistry at PBSC. She's clear, she know the material and give you back the graded paper on time. She also give partial credit so If you want to learn and willing to work for your A take her.
Coming from another teacher, prof. Chow is top of the line. she takes the time to hand grade every test. I used to think her lectures were hard until I figured out her strategy: she gives like 20 examples, some kids catch it the first time, while others catch it the 10th time. She's a very passionate teacher who wants her students to succeed.
has relaxed alot but still not clear on expectations, didn't know all procedures in lab, and lab wasn't always ready when starting, she is nice but just confusing when you have to do full lab write up, then find out after all ur work we aren't doing part of the lab, can't u just tell us from the start
i was really worried about taking chemistry but honestly professor Chow is the best professor i have had to PBSC. She dumbs everything down and explains everything clearly. But then again it is chemistry and it is hard, just study and go to class and you will get an A.
Explain things very well. Test is what she teach us, no surprise. Study and understand you will get an A. Good teacher =]
Professor Chow Rocks! I had Lab with her and it was very productive, it's al about doing the right PROCEDURES.
SHe's the best Professor I've had since I've been in college. It's impossible not to understand the material the way she presents it and uses multiple ways and examples so that everyone understand it.
excellent professor. Goes in depth in lecture, but tests on a basic level of understanding. sometimes gets ahead of herself explaining things, but will slow down and explain again if you just ask. 5ish tests, quizzes and homework boost your grade. hard class, but manageable if you STUDY. Be prepared to use math!
She gives you everything you need to know for tests in her lectures, but take good notes and pay attention or you're screwed. Write down EVERY EXAMPLE she gives you. I never got above a 74 on a test that i'm aware of (dunno how i did on the last test or final) but got an A in the class. take good notes, study, do the homework and you'll be fine.
Prof Chow is the best Teacher ever. you want to actually learn definitely take her. test is easy that is if you study and come to her class. she doesn't like her students failing. she takes it very personal when her students dont do good in class. love her!
Good teacher, probly the best for chem at palm beach state. Might be a little obscure sometimes in her lessons, but is nice and will help to clarify. attend class, take notes, overall a fair grader. I got an A, gonna take for 1046
professor chow is extremely helpful, if you ask for help. do not be afraid to speak up. she will spend as long as it takes to help sink things into your head. do not miss her classes. she emails all of the lectures to you, and she sends a review sheet for the tests. pay attention, take notes, do your homework. best teacher
She is a wonderful professor! She has great powerpoint presentations. I thought they were much clearer than the book. You do need the book for homework assignments but, she gives you until the day of the test to turn in. Study the powerpoints she e-mails you and you'll get an A on the tests. Plus she drops the lowest.
Professor chow wasn't right for me.If you don't like craming all the lessons untill the last minute. She let us out early every class for two months, then crammed it all in the end. Dont take her class. Trust me.
Please do not take her! She is an awful professor. She gives you an online homework that she admits is "10 times harder than the book questions". Tutors in the lab spend an hour for one of her online homework questions! She wants you to complete 57 of those questions in a week. Also, expect two test a week and her irritation when asked a question.
Dedicated, if you show interest she will help you. Study Practice and you will get an A!
Not an easy class! Take at own risk! This Professor is the most difficult in all of the Chemistry Dept. I would have rather chosen a different person but I wanted to take on the challenge. But taking this professor is no challenge, it is all set for failure!
Ok I really don't like when lazy people get on this site and start writing bad things about teachers. Ms Emma is the best chemistry teacher I've ever had. We had an SI leader and I never went to any of his sessions and I passed her classe with an A both lab and lecture. Take her she's awesome
She goes extremely fast and is really unorganized and forget about following along with the book, when asked, she doesn't even know what chap. we were on. I had to put all my other classes on the backburner just to get a B. She does stay after class to help though.
I had professor chow for LAB. She is somewhat strict on policies and fair on grading. She is a very nice teacher, and is passionate about her work and loves to give help, offer advice and tips. Very knowledgeable about chemistry, great teacher!
I beg to differ with these ratings. Okay, Chemistry in general is a hard subject. One must study A LOT and understand concepts, not only memorize information. Yes, she starts off slow, then picks it up turbo speed. However, you'll be fine. This class is way more interesting than CHM 1045. She is honestly the best CHM teacher at PBSC, TRUST ME!!!!
One of the worst professors i have taken at this college. Yes, Chemistry is a challenging subject;however, this professor goes through the material extremely fast without explaining the concepts. Has a bad attitude and her tests are ridiculous. Take at your own risk!
Very hard class, but if you read ur textbook and do the homework, its easy. But thats the problem, you have to teach yourself! Because she doesnt spend too much time on the subject, just a few broad explanations and thats it.
Won't give u what is on the review. Very confusing and lost sometimes. Take her if u have few classes. Unlike me I had seven classes I took her and barely passed it.
Horrible professor should NOT be teaching. Makes subject much more difficult than it already is. Gives you online HW to do which takes you forever to complete.
I recieved a F in chm1045.That isnt a reflection on the teacher.Chow ws actually pretty great at explaining and getting you ready for the test. I learn alot.I would recommend that you take 1025 before or else you will spend the whole class catching up.I will take the class over with her again.also she is VERY high speed(your warned)
great teacher she really is by looking at all the comments i was nervous about taking her honestly just read the chapters and print out the powerpoints, and do the homework and you will pass she is so easy i mean she emails you all the reviews before the test great teacher with a funny ditsy attitude..does get off track but great anyway easy A
EMMA IS AN OK TEACHER, HER REVIEWS ARE NOT LIKE THE TEST AND THE MATERIAL IS OK TO UNDERSTAND BUT SHE MAKES IT HARD. I SPENT THE ENTIRE SEMESTER IN THE LAB AND I'VE NEVER HAD TO STUDY SO HARD IN MY LIFE B4 FOR A CLASS. SHE HAS A LOT TO GO OVER, SO THE CLASS IS SUPER FAST AND KINDA GETS ANNOYED WHEN ASKED QUESTIONS. TAKE IF YOU HAVE NO LIFE!!!
SHE TALKS VERY FAST, AND SHE DOESN'T GIVE TIME FOR THE CLASS TO DO THE QUESTIONS, AS IF SHE WAS TEACHING HERSELF. HER QUIZZES ARE VERY EASY, BUT HER TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD, NOTHING LIKE WHAT WE DID IN CLASS. EVEN IF YOU KNOW EVERYTHING FROM THE POWERPOINT, THE QUESTION ON THE TEST ARE NOTHING LIKE IT. TRY AVOID TAKING HER AS POSSIBLE.
she is horrible at teaching, i learned almost everything myself from youtube, get it, but failed the class because of her insane tests. she talk and teach very fast. take it if you want to fail. but 2 good thing about her is she hot and nice, but you will still fail
It is hard course, but she did not make it even more difficult, I know she probably cannot slow down at the class, but at least she need to give students more example of questions. The online homework is ridiculous, everyone in class know it doesn't help for the class material, even SI can't help us on some questions.
Stay away from this teacher. I had to retake chemistry because I took it 10 yrs ago, and this is NOT how chemistry is supposed to be tested! Her tests are not like her notes!! Also tricky! Beware! I went all the way to chem2, and organic chem2 10 years ago. She makes it harder than it is!! Highly dont recommend.
Chow is a good professor but this class moves very fast and if chemistry isn't your strongest subject be prepared to put in hours of work. The online component was not helpful, just busywork that didn't teach anything. Student Instructors were available to help outside of class. Lots of powerpoints used and lots of quizzes and tests.
I took chemistry with Professor Chow before getting into Physician Assistant school 2 years ago and I am only doing a review for her now because everything I learned in chemistry, I learned from her and they are very helpful with my studies. She is not easy but if you want to know and learn chemistry, I highly recommend her.
This professor isn't bad with the homework and discussion board assignments. However, her lectures are not concise, she doesn't explain the material well, and doesn't go over half the things that are in the book. Most of the times I had to go to youtube to better understand the material. Otherwise, great professor.
she is willingto help you whenever you have problems.she is a good professor, I love her.
This class was a great foundation for later Chemistry classes and Professor Chow was a good instructor. She moved very fast, and I would recommend attending the SI sessions and printing out and using the PowerPoints she sends out. She was good about helping the class bring their grades up, supplementing quizzes with do overs when everyone failed.
She is a fun and outgoing teacher that focuses on your weaknesses and other factors that help you succeed. I personally found the class easy because the power points she provides and the constant drilling of material helped a lot. Her tests and quizes are a bit difficult but studying is always key!
Good teacher and really fair does not like when students give up without trying to understand problems.
She has a lot of material to cover so she goes really fast, if math and science do not come naturally easy to you; you will have to put some extra effort and research outside of class, but that is expected. She was patient with difficult students and those who struggled.
I took her this semester, her class was little bit difficult but it can be easy if you follow along everything she is doing. You must study in your own because she has a lot to cover and she goes really fast. She is fun, outgoing and very helpful even in the time you might want to give up.
We already know what she's the best chemistry teacher to PBSC. I took her only class if you follow along he will be very very easy. All Chemistry requires is memorization and imagination all you have to do is imagine things. There's no such thing as hard math at all, very basic numbers. Take care I love these professor you won't regret it taking her
She was an amazing professor. Took her for organic chemistry in 6 weeks over the summer. I've never had a professor that assessed student needs before moving on to the next topic. Take her!
I am HORRIBLE at chemistry and have actually never taken chemistry before this class but I decided to try it online any way and I am happy to have passed with a C. I know thats not a great grade but for the little effort I put in and the little understanding I had of chemistry I am happy with it. This professor is very good at explaining chemistry.
This class is so easy. Take her!!!
Her power points and lectures are easy to understand, but when it came to the quizzes and exams they were extremely hard, felt unprepared and ran out of time. I'm meeting with her tomorrow to see what I can do better, but I'm typically an A or B student and don't have a problem learning material.
Her power points and lectures are easy to understand, but I found the quizzes and exams extremely difficult. Also, I found errors in both quizzes and exams to which I brought to her attention.
She is the best chemistry teacher to Palm Beach State. I took her only class and if you listen to all the videos, do do Homework, Itll be a very very easy class. We all know Chem requires memorization, dedication, He lessons are so completed, even though i still used kham academy but no need, she is Cristal Clear. I Will take her again now.
I was a little nervous about taking chemistry online but this was the easiest online class i've ever taken. Would recommend her to anyone taking chemistry!
Great teacher, she's a bit fast paced but easy. If you do not understand something DO NOT let it pass, you will get lost if you do not understand!! She emails you the home work and the lectures. She drops the lowest grade (one for quiz & one for test not including final). Quiz is straight from the notes, test are straight from the quiz. STUDY!!
Apparently she has changed her way of teaching since last semester because there are no video lectures this semester, there are no power points, nothing. Just her talking fast paced !! Its horrible and i cannot wait for this class to be over! Do not take her if you want to not rip your hair out.
For a lower-level course, Chow isn't the best. She breezes through lectures and tends to only know one way to explain concepts. If you're somebody that struggles with chemistry, she's not the best professor to take. You'll end up at tutoring or teaching yourself. Textbook isn't required, but purchase of SaplingLearning is ($40 cost).
She does teach fast but she does a lot of examples. The way she tests is clear. Memorization is key to passing this class. She emails study sheets before the test.
She is by far the FASTEST professor i ever taken! I find calculus EXTREMELY easier than this class. Harsh grader and gives quiz every week. Very confusing and sloppy in giving out notes. Tests are multiple choice and you write in. BTW they are tricky. Grades weird too. Instead of averaging out she divides everything by 40%. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
Pros hw is easy. Consconfusing, fast, not good at giving notes , tricky testquiz. Whoever give her good ratings is a lier. Quiz one week and test another. Mc andor write in test. 34 of it extremely difficult. GL on finding a easy question. Expects the students to have same knowledge as her. She is lazy at grading and keeps the tests.
Professor Chow is one of my favorite professors at PBSC. She explains the contents of the class very clearly and is always there to help if you need it. I had health issues early on in the semester and she was very accommodating and friendly about it and even thanked me for talking to her about it. I would take her for every class if i could!
Tests are very hard online. Have to teach yourself because the reviews don't help. Gives plenty of chances for extra credit.
Im sorry shes a very nice person but a horrible, horrible teacher. I literally taught myself in the class and still barely passed. She goes way too fast. I took her for chem 2 and honestly it was the worst class i have ever taken in my life. Please if you are not good at chemistry DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
WORST experience. She is goes too fast and leaves the hardest thing for you to learn 2 days before the test. Didn't learn anything and every test is different. They are very tricky and maybe one or two easy questions. She is a hurry to go him and if she speaks slowly she will fall asleep according to her own words. You have been WARNED
This is the 3rd chemistry class I've taken with her so I'm used to her teaching style. She does go very fast so be ready to quickly take notes. Always print the power points she sends ahead of class. She gives extra credit on all quizzes and tests. Her tests are hard so you have to study a lot and put in the effort. She is a great professor though!
She is such a nice person, and with that being said probably not the best teacher. I put in a lot of work into the course, however she is impossible to understand at the speed she goes at. Skips over so much info because she expects you to know it, and because of that half of the class sits there with a blank look on their face. Take a diff. prof!
A Master's level professor that you would be fortunate to have at this college. She is a step ahead of most other chemistry professors. Organic chemistry is hard, and she tries her best to get you through it. A little unorganized, but a 6-week class can have that anyways. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY and you will do well. Extra credit available.
A professor that is willing to help students and take her time so everyone understands. If you ask questions she will answer them and if you do not she goes fast. This is chemistry 2 not an easy class so if you don't study then good luck with the F. Unless your a genius. If she taught every class at this college I would have her 5 times a semester.
If you want to actually understand and pass the class, don't take her! Her tests are so tough, they are all concepts in which she tried to trick you. She goes so fast, skips over so many things because she expects you to just know. You will leave the class with a blank expression on your face . Stay away
I took Professor Chow for both CHM 1045 & CHM 1046 & im absolutely obsess wher. i missed the 1st week of a 6 week for CHM1046 & she was extremely helpful to get me on track She gives extra credit opportunities. Her lectures are clear and understandable. I would take her again for org 1 & 2. her labs are easy too.
Prof Chow is a university level professor! She was challenging but she pushed me and believed in me, that defines a great professor! I had her for two chemistries and one of them was online. I do not recommend to take any science online! Prof. Chow is inspirational and if you work really hard she will push you to get that A! Great professor!
I was a little nervous to take Chemistry online, but I am so glad that I did. Not a lot of work. I had a total of 4 quizzes and 4 tests. The material was all based on lectures, and discussions were an easy grade. She also gives Extra Credit. If you have any qs she is very good at responding. I would for sure take her again.
She is an awesome professor and she is very flexible. Take her class. The exams might tough sometimes but if you pay full attention you ll be fine.
I think Professor Chows online class is great and I'm so glad I took it online and not in class. Very organized and not overwhelming at all and you can work at your own pace. I enjoy the lectures and work is doable. I'd recommend her.
Great professor. Her tests were a little difficult especially since she would teach a main part of the test the class right before it, so I would go home to study and realize I couldn't do it on my own and needed more help. That was the only thing I didn't like. But she does offer reviews for tests and homework that is long but its due test days.
Professor Chow has been my Chem professor since 1025 and I love her ! she is very concerned about how well each student is doing within her her class. If you want to learn do your part and do your assignments. ASK FOR HELP. I plan on taking her for 1046L and 1046 for the Spring. start and stick with Chow!
4 quizzes, 4 tests, 4 discussions, 1 finale & extra credit. quizzes & exams are timed. The online course had helpful lecture videos. Textbook only used for homework & Discussion so share book to save $. She makes a hard subject easy to learn but study hard for the finale & exam 2. Did poorly on finale & it changed my A- (90%) to a B+.(87%).
Lab with this professor was the easiest lab I had ever tooken. Just show up to class and do the labs, do the assigned pre labs and post labs and procedures and that's pretty much it. No quizzes or practicals!
Beginning of the class was easy. personally I think she did the mistake of starting a slow pace for the class for everyone to understand. At the end everything was super fast and hard to keep up with. She is way to smart! and sometimes forgets some of us take time to learn things. Very Helpful and clear to understand.
Professor Chow is amazing. She has a lot of tests but it's worth it for you to actually understand chemistry and get a good grade. If you want an A you need to study or else you won't pass. She is super helpful and has very clear lectures and power points. Put in your effort and you will be fine. She is the best of the best. Would def take again
Tests are very hard and the lessons are long. She gives extra credit and grades quickly.
Professor Chow is by far one of the most professional professors I have had at Palm Beach State. I would recommend her to anybody. CHM1032 is not hard, but not easy either. Just study and do the reviews in depth and you will pass this class no problem. Professor Chow is easily approachable and willing to help her students in anyway she can.
Lab is fun and easy - Would recommend
She is a nice professor, but teaches very fast. Her tests are also very difficult and there is no extra credit given in this class. She's willing to help you if you need it, but you have to show her that you're going to try. I would not recommend taking her if you believe you're going to struggle with chemistry because you definitely will.
She is a very nice and knowledgeable professor. Is tough yes, but who said chemistry is an easy subject? She gives lots of extra credit and is always available to help whit any kind of questions. She teaches very fast and her handwriting is not the best, but she makes sure the entire class understands before jumping to something new.
Professor Chow really knows what she's talking about. She really cares about making sure her students understand concepts before jumping to other material. Class goes fast but still there is a lot of material (about 10 chapters) to cover so going fast is a must. I would deffinetely take again.
This woman is a mess! DON'T TAKE HER! The only way to get an A in her class is studying Chemistry day and night. She is very confusing, she never has answers to the exercises. The tests are far away from what she teaches in class. I would not recommend her. She is a nice person but she needs to be more organized and specific with the tests.
Professor Chow is not the best professor you can have. If you find another professor, don't take her class. The tests are really hard with a bunch of tricky questions. She gives some extra credit points but it won't help because the tests are very confusing. You have to study a lot if you want to get at least a B in this class.
Prof. Chow is a terrific lady. She goes fast in class but she is there for you if you go to her office hours. Chem is a hard class regardless and you MUST STUDY OR ELSE YOU WILL NOT PASS HER TESTS OR QUIZZES which are tricky btw. The last week is the most stressful in her class. She drops one test and quiz so that was great.
She goes through the materials fast but she tells you that the first day of class. There SI meeting which is helpful if you dont understand and you get extra credit for going. Test were not that had because i went to the SI meeting. 5testes.5quizzes.1Final. Hw due day of test, all hw count as 1 quiz. Drop lowest test and quiz. Textbook for he. :)
Professor Chow works very fast!! If you've never taken chemistry before your going to have a hard time keeping up with the work. She gives hw which is due the day of every test. Total of 5 tests and quizzes (drops lowest from both) The one thing that helped a lot was the extra credit! GO TO THE SI SESSIONS!!! That's how you will pass the class!
Her lectures are clear, but they are fast. Also, she is always willing to help you during office hours and class. In class you're taught how to solve the problems, and you practice there. There is no need to look at the book or YouTube videos unless you get behind or have trouble understanding something. The tests also always have extra credit.
I don't like her teaching style. She is a nice professor but the way she teaches is not the best. Tests are hard, too much tricky questions, only the last test is easy. She gives extra credit but it won't help you unless you study really hard. Would not recommend.
OKAY, I'm writing this in hope of helping at least someone out here. Professor Chow is a nice person, BUT she comes off very unprofessional. She is knowledgeable about her subject, BUT she is very disorganized. She is always asking for answers to other students. She explains writing on the computer but she is a mess doing that. Tough grader btw :(
I going to be fast and clear. Don't take this class if you struggle with Chemistry. I received a B studying really hard. If you want A take someone else.
Good teacher but beware that she talks faster than anyone on earth! Nice lady but covers the material way too quickly. Will help you when needed.
I dont understand why are people complaining about her. She gives you extra credit on every single quiz and test. She also gives extra credit for homework and other random stuff. If you re looking for an easy A, yeah you wont like it but if you need to actually learn chemistry because you ll need it for later on, take her. She s super nice too.
General Chemistry 2 in 6 weeks can be a real challenge but professor Chow is always willing to do anything for her students to succeed. This is my second class with her and I can't wait to take organic with her next semester, she makes chemistry interesting and understandable, I really recommend her.
I highly recommend Prof Chow! Chemistry is not a passive process. To understand chemistry you have to really apply yourself. Prof Chow will go the extra mile for students that apply themselves. Her tests are hard! So if you want to do well, you have to study. I wish she taught organic chemistry 2. I would definitely take her class again.
I was afraid of taking this online class, but it was the BEST choice ever. Her ratings aren't that great but this class is seriously super easy considering it is Chem. Take it, you won't regret it. Quizzes are simple, the Tests were a bit harder for me but either way there is a lot of extra credit offered. Homework is super easy.
Took Chem 2 in 6 weeks. I don't know how people can still fail. She literary spoon fed the whole class. HW is optional but extra credit for the test. Her tests are literary on her notes and online videos. Didn't even open the notes still finished the class 105/100. Pay attention to the lecture and do the homework and you'll get an A.
This was the worst professor I've had so far. I am no slacker and work very hard in all my classes, but no matter how much I studied I was always blindsided by her tests. I love chemistry and I am actually a chem major, so this took me completely by surprise. She teaches the basics of everything and then tests you on the most advanced version.
Best you can get for chemistry at PBSC
Confusing set up for discussion board and she won't grade if it's not done right, or will give you a bad grade. Asked to fix a response and when i did she told me the question was closed and not available to answer to which i replied that It was in response to her asking of me to redo it and I never heard back. Making my B a C instead.
Says she drops lowest test and quiz but doesn't, lots of hw due for every chapter, sometimes having nothing to do with the lecture, moves pretty fast. Other than that, she's really nice, VERY understanding, and will work with you if something comes up
She makes the class seem very easy during the first week or so and then she starts making it impossible. The homework takes up about 4-5 pages front and back every 2-3 weeks and the tests are a much harder version of her lecture. When you ask questions she responds with sarcasm. Lies about dropping lowest test & quiz. I love chem and struggled,so..
The speed that she taught the class is the same speed it took me to withdraw.
Do NOT take her!
The test and quizzes are very fast pace. Must be organized and study in order to pass
Wonderful professor. she teaches fast but she post her lectures on blackboard which really help. she is always there to help and truly wants you to learn. take advantage of all the extra credit, you'll need it! Really make sure she learns your name and knows who you are it will be in your favor later on.
She blew through 3 lectures on organic chemistry and is giving us a test on it next class. The fact that she has podcasts online helped but that was also her reason as to why she wouldn't slow down to explain things. If possible, take a professor who will guide you through the material & answer your questions & set you up for success.
Deduct points for anything!
She will absolutely make you work for your grade but she will also help you understand and is willing to work with you. Online if you do all the discussion boards completely she drops a quiz grade. It's obvious she loves her job and what she teaches so show her you're willing to learn and seek help if you need it and you'll be fine.
Professor is the kind of teacher that REALLY CARES about all of her student. She goes really fast BUT has online podcasts which are basically everything covered in class and more , and are extremely helpful! Watch them all you will pass. Plenty of extra credit are available, take advantage of them because it will make a HUGE difference at the end.
Took this class online. So much easy extra credit opportunities. All quiz/tests are open book/notes. The PowerPoint lectures are very detailed and mostly easy to understand. 5 quizzes, 5 discussions and 5 tests. Final is cumulative.
4 quizzes (25 points each) , 4 homework/discussion assignment ( all worth 8 points but if done correctly you'll get 10 points), 4 test ( 100 points each) . There is A LOT of extra credit opportunity , utilize it.
Always watch the declines! She will not open anything after the deadline. SOOOO MANY CHANCES FOR EXTRA CREDIT! TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO IT!! Do the exam review and receive 5% on that exam. Example, if you did the review and got 90% on that exam, then your actual score would be 95%! Such an awesome teacher. Wish she taught more classes.
Homework is optional but don't take that for granted; homework points are basically your extra credit for tests. She goes a little too fast sometimes, so you might want to check out her podcasts on Blackboard to help you get a better understanding on what you need help on. Other than that, really knows how to teach and is willing to help whenever.
Take advantage of the extra credit and you are able to get an A in the class. Many students complain about her as a professor but she teaches in a well enough manner to grasp the concepts. Rarely went to tutor sessions, the quizzes and tests reflect the handouts.
Do not take her for her six week course she rushes through everything and told the class that we all need to go by her fast pace because she doesn't like to slow down. If you are good at chemistry, you should be fine. Decides last minute not to give reviews and usually what is on the review isn't even on the test. She does play favoritism with guys
Do not take that class. She makes everything a big deal if you don't write your name in the reply subject line, when it is already shown that it is you replying. And if you don't answer all the questions right she will deduct points even though you try. warning!
If you're taking Gen Chen 2 you're trying to be a professional medical clinician of some kind. It won't be easy. If you work and put in the time and effort you will get an A. She will basically hold you're hand and walk you through to your A as long as she knows you've put in the work. Take advantage of everything. It's not hard to pay attention
Professor Chow was great. I took her chemistry course online and there is a lot of extra credit she gives out for each test. Her homework is just the discussion posts, so if you study and pay attention to her lectures, you should be fine
I took the online Chem 1 class. Here's what to expect from Chow: Only Quizzes and Exams are graded, be ready b/c Exam questions do not come from a specific source (i.e Review, Homework, etc.) A plethora of Extra Credit is given., do it ya crazy! There's no leniency on deadlines. :::It is possible to pass by doing the EC and studying hard:::
Took online summer course. Lots of extra credit! Got an A+ and haven't taken chemistry since high school 20 years ago. Was nervous for online class but you can watch the power point lectures as much as you want until the material sinks in. Lots of due dates so make sure to stay organized!! Great professor.
This instructor basically has knowledge of her topic, but can not briefly instruct the subject properly. Her lectures are rushed through, as if she is speaking to an expert scientists. This Prof. is quiet strict with grading, so be careful. Most of all she can seem to appear to have a catchy attitude after asking questions, or making a statement.
This course can be easy if you know the ways of Quizlet. If you don't know about it, you're missing out. The tests were hard but I still got an A. She offers a lot of extra credit, its just kind of confusing to understand what she wants you to do. She's one of those professors that gives you the instructions and that's it. Figure it out or Quizlet.
Emma Chow is an awesome professor. She is tough, but as long as you're trying hard and doing the work you should be fine. She drops the lowest test and quiz, so theres no reason to fail. She will deff prepare you for Chemistry 2 and any other courses related to Chemistry. She's extremely smart!! I am taking her next semester again.
Emma is the best Chemistry professor in PBSC but shes defiantly not perfect... her tests can be difficult due to her wording choice for the questions. You will have to work hard for a good grade in this course. DO NOT TAKE if youre looking for an easy A! Shes defiantly tough!
Felt so and so about this professor. Goes extremely fast but she does offer her podcasts online so you could catch up. Be careful with your grade! If something seems off, contact her immediately. Ive had instances with her putting the wrong grades for my test/quizzes. Would probably take again though.
BEST professor for lab! Took her for Chem 1045 Lab and felt very happy in doing so. Shes awesome because she doesnt do quizzes. Just the typed procedure and the pre-post labs. Im defiantly taking her again for Chem 1046 L. Take her!
Nice professor! she goes pretty fast on the lectures but goes over a lot of examples in class for you to understand the material. Her lectures are on blackboard incase you want to hear them again. Chemistry is a pretty hard subject so you have to put the time and effort to try to get a good grade. 5 quizzes 5 test, drops the lowest quiz and test!
Professor Chow is okay but when it comes to explaining something in class. It's always confusing and i never understand what she's saying. Most of the time she goes way to fast and acts like we all know the material when really we don't.
Chow is the best professor at pbsc. Take her!
She is a very good proffesor. I can tell she's prepared for every single one of her classes. Good abilities to teach. The tests though, are somehow hard, but if you study and follow her guidelines you'll pass easily. In case you have troubles with the test, you're also allowed to do some extra credit from the book, which is, in my opinion HARD.
Best organic chem professor at pbsc. She drops the lowest test and quiz grade out of 4 each and on top of that gives extra credit and is available for help outside of class. Pay attention and you'll get the grade you worked for.
I Love Professor Chow, she's really easy if you come prepared for the lab. You have to do your pre-lab and type the procedure before class for a grade. We usually get out an hour early and somehow we finished before any other lab class. She also has great podcasts if your lecture teacher isn't good. Just ask her for them. Good luck :)
Great professor for any major involving heavily on CHEM classes. You will learn in her class but you must study hard to get an A. she also gives out extra credit.
It's known that she teaches fast (she even says that), but I am surprised with all her low ratings. She is an amazing teacher and really dumbs things down for you to understand. She gives lots of extra credit, so if you study you can get an A. People think they can get by in chem without putting in the work and blame her when they can't.
There should be more professors like her out there. She is great. Highly recommend getting the textbook and studying for 4 hours a week to get an A. She really cares about her students. Extra credit is available for the tests but there is no homework grade. She teaches extremely fast but answers every question asked. Never says "u should know this"
I took an online class and I highly recommend! When you check her syllabus, you will feel overwhelmed with due dates, but it is called ORGANIZATION! She gives almost a month to do a discussion post, quiz, test and extras credits. NOT BAD AT ALL! She can be picky how she wants the discussion board, just follow what she say. Good Luck!
Great Professor! If you're not good in Chem I would strongly recommend taking her! However she does teach a little fast but she has podcast of all her lectures online so if there is something you didn't understand in class, you can go over it that night.
I'm taking her online summer class. The only thing I like about this class is that she has clear due dates on her syllabus, but she doesn't respond to anyones emails, she doesn't explain our discussion posts, the TSI is a waste of time. He doesn't respond to emails either so I'm not sure why we even have him. Heavily thinking of withdrawing!
Summer online class is useless. Professor doesnt respond to emails and discussion posts are a nightmare Will not be taking her again.
I am taking this class online and it is the easiest class ever. Anyone who leaves a bad review must not turn anything in. The tests and quizzes are so easy. The discussion board is a piece of cake. I thought this class was gonna be hard but it is not. Would take again for sure.
Professor Chow is very nice and caring. The class was not difficult if you do all the lab reports and really pay attention to what she is looking for... However, my only problem was the book. It is very unorganized and what was in the book did not match what we were doing in class so it was confusing at times.
Professor Chow's class is difficult but chemistry isn't easy anyway. She's straight forward and makes chemistry easy to understand with plenty of examples in her video lectures. Her tests aren't difficult as long as you practice and study before hand. The subject matter is complicated but she simplifies everything which is great. I would take again
If you're one that typically struggles with chem like myself, take Prof. Chow. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will not want to miss class because her lectures are amazing. Keeps all the students involved during the class period and will not move on until everyone understands. Very kind and gives extra credit opportunities.
Great professor. Her podcast are really useful as you can go back and watch anything you need clarification on. Homework is 10 points extra credit on each exam. Great lab instructor and lecturer. Best CHM1046 professor at PBSC.
Don't even waste your time with this professor. Her communication skills are horrible for an online class and when she does finally respond she's extremely rude. Her grading criteria is confusing at best and none of her tests match the notes at all. Get ready to jump through some serious hoops only to manage to get a C in her class at best!
Professor Chow's class CHM1032 was wonderful! I passed with an A and that is with me taking a shorter class in the summer and dealing with a lot of personal problems. If I can get an A with what I went through you can too!
Everyone said this is the professor to take. I am an honors student with straight As. This professor is ridiculous in my book. Not enough time for quizzes and then says it is our issue why we all did poorly. She goes so fast and doesnt get into enough detail. You basically live in tutoring. She is rude and not pleasant at all.
She confuses herself & teaches wrong. She doesnt answer your questions fully. She makes you memorize EVERYTHING. She says shes available but shes not. Her tests/quizzes are tricky and she teaches way to fast. She gets very angry and yells at students if you get an answer wrong in class or dont understand the material as fast as she does.
Just take it online. You will not benefit from her teachings in person. She's totally unorganized. She tries too hard to dumb down chemistry that it actually makes it harder. If you have ANY background in chemistry you'll probably disagree with a lot of the ways she explains things. She never gives adequate time for quizzes and the textbook is $$$.
Professor Chow is easily the best professor Ive had in college so far. I have no chemistry background and she breaks things down really well. I didnt do well on the first test and she spent 30mins of her office time going over where I went wrong on each question. She genuinely wants you to do well and will help if she sees you trying.
Hardest class Ive ever taken. The class average was 54% because its just kind of assumed everyone knows what is going on even though the entire class was completely lost. She flies through material and shows you how to do it maybe twice then thats it. Said a take home quiz was due at 9 PM on Monday then took it back and took 10% off everyone.
This class requires a steady amount of time and effort outside of class. It's a lot of information taught quickly so get help as soon as you need it or you'll drown. I had my disagreements with this professor but she definitely does her best. Extra points for going to homework plus help a lot. Has podcasts and lectures on blackboard. Book is pricy.
she is not so bad, you will just need to work hard in this class. do not see it just an online class. you will actually have to work and do homework if you want to pass.
I took her because everyone said she was the best, which I agree she could of been, she has podcasts online which could make her great. But she is extremely unorganized. She is all over the place in her lectures and will leave you extremely confused. She could be a great professor but this semester she wasnt her best. Take her ONLY if you knowChem
Organized and all lectures are available online. She was a decent lecturer for sure, however, there was a point in the semester that something changed. she no longer put up with people not knowing or understanding the first time she taught something. She became very condescending and angry at students who didn't understand and I almost walked out.
She was a great professional in the beginning of the last. She cared so much and tried her best to help student. Yet, in the end of the semester, it was a nightmare at its best. I never had so many meltdowns in her test. She tells you some things are not on the test. Next thing you know, Bam! Study everything, dont relay on her comments.
Ok I really liked her till about my third lesson in. Her lessons were hard to understand and had to teach myself in the text book. Was less than a percent away from the next letter grade up and she did NOT let me do anything about it. Also, read your announcements I missed a chance at extra credit because I never knew she posted on there as well.
She is a very caring professor, but she really does make you work for it. If you give her time and effort to teach you. She will do her best to help you. Please ready her lessons, and always ask questions. She may be in a rush, but try your best to come to her. If you dont ask, she cant tell you. She is great at responding to emails.
Emma Chow is a very caring Professor but you have to STUDY in order to pass this class. She moves pretty fast but that's because there is so much material to cover. You can always review her podcasts because that is what I did. Attend tutoring for extra credit!
Provides a lot of extra credit. Talks really fast, but if you dont understand her, raise your hand and she will go over it again. 5 quizzes, tests, and homework assignments. Lowest score get dropped from both test and quizzes .
Emma Chow was an excellent choice for Chemistry. Based on the reviews I've seen here I've noticed that there is a difference between her online class vs in class. Do yourself a favor and take her online class. Chemistry is tough period, however, if you take Emma Chow online, you'll get at least a B if you stay on top of things.
Taken an online chem lecture class and had a BAD experience, and a friend advise I take her in person. Such a sweetheart. She was TOUGH on me in Orgo 1 lab, but she's willing to work with you. She genuinely seems compassion about her job. I regret the first rating I gave her for Chm 1. Chow is a GEM.
she's a great lady, but not a great teacher. She needs to change her way of teaching.
Good professor. Gotta study at least a week in advance before the test. Do the h.w. bc it'll prepare you for her tests, plus its extra credit.
I honestly don't know what i did to deserve such a great prof. I took her for 1045 & 1046 for both lecture & lab. She is that rare professor that wants her students to succeed. She's always available to help & her podcasts are a life saver. I will never forget anything she's taught me. I now have all the tools to further succeed, thanks to her.
Professor Chow is a great chemistry professor. All of the material was clearly outlined. She lectures kinda fast, but she has podcasts online that help A LOT. She really cares about her students and their understanding of the material, and is always available for extra help outside of class. I highly recommend her.
She lectures fast but as long as you write down what she says you'll be fine. The online homework (ALEKS) SUCKS. I hated it because you'd have to teach yourself some things. There are 4 tests overall and some quizzes. The final is optional if you have a good grade.
Super easy! Its incredibly organized and easy to do. Professor Chow is VERY meticulous. Be sure to carefully read the instructions & understand because she does take points off if not correct. She offers extra credit throughout the course. EVERYTHING is on quizlet too, so make that you're new BFF. I would take again in a heartbeat.
Professor. Chow is a great teacher. Chemistry is a hard subject and it took me two tries to really get it. She is patient and really cares that you learn the material. She means well and her grading criteria is very clear. Do yourself a favor and do the homework.
This class requires a lot of studying! The online homework system that she uses is very difficult and time consuming, but counts as extra credit toward your test grades. She has really great podcasts that will help you to understand the material. As long as you study and complete the online homework assignments you will pass.
6 week summer Orgo 1 Lab. She stated her expectations from the beginning. Requires very detailed pre labs and lab reports. You get the hang of them after the first few labs. No quizzes or tests. Very fair, would take again.
AMAZING professor! She is very knowledgeable and is a very kind and caring person. She is always available and is extremely helpful, organic chemistry is a stressful enough subject but she is very helpful and helps the course be a lot better! Her class is great and if you study you will be fine! Definitely recommend her.
Wow First Lab with Dr. Chow and she was my favorite lab professor so far! No test or quizzes, just lab reports. Follow all guidelines for lab reports (shes tell you what she wants on the board, with the Procedure/observation section be as detailed as possible) participate in the lab experiments and ask for help or email and you will do fine!
If you are willing to put the work in for this class she will work with you.
One of the best teachers i've had at this school so far. She gives alot of packets which of course u dont have to do but they make the class even easier if you do and theres so much extra credit god help you if you fail. Take her just be at class and if you're an average human being you will pass.
I took her for from Chem 1 to Orgo 1 & she was amazing! Chemistry needs work, you really can't expect not to study & get a good grade. Print her lecture notes & go to class & do the home-work, & you'll get an A. Chem 2 was especially hard for me & she even let me sit & do my homework during her office hours & would explain things I didn't get.
I was scared to take an online chemistry course but by far she is one of the most amazing professors I've had. Her lectures and so specific and give such good detail and information about the topics. Since its online the tests are open book as well as the quizzes. There is a discussion board and bonus points available. I HIGHLY recommend taking her
Took her over the summer for CHM1032 online. She is easy to get in touch with if you have questions and posts her lectures online so you can understand the material. Lots of online tests you have to take. You have a homework assignment every unit.
Professor Chow simplifies chemistry. The class requires a lot of homework but if you do the aleks and the practice you will get an A. She puts bonus questions on quizzes for extra credit which helps boost your grade. She speaks fast but if she sees you are having an issue she will stop to help you understand. I highly recommend taking her.
Goes waytoo fast, doesn't provide good feedback, I had to learn everything myself, so what's the point of sitting in a lecture if just have to do much of it at home.
Professor Chow is a good communicator and presents concepts in a clear and understandable way. My complaints with this course are not really her teaching but rather the format of the course itself. The quizzes in particular are timed (too short!) and do not allow going back to previous questions, which forces you to rush. Hard class but doable.
Professor Chow goes too fast, she does have her lectures on BB so you can go back, and she gives extra credit, so it's hard to fail. However, her in-class lectures made me confused a lot of times and I ended up having to use the internet a lot of times to understand. Otherwise, she is kind and will help you learn, but she can be confusing.
She is no help. By far the worst professor i have ever had, and I am a straight A student. She is very awful. Dont even use pearson to help you understand. She give only 15 min for you to complete the quiz. Like who does that. Do not waste your money and time. Run from her class..
The online class had very clear grading criteria . I would recommend taking her class online , because more time to study the material rather than sitting in a class for 3 hours . First time taking online class, points off for not posting in the right section. Extra credit only if you received a 100% on all discussion post , no leniency.
This semester has been tough with everything happening with Covid but she is a very nasty professor. Very condescending and patronizing when it comes to her lectures. Definitely avoid taking her class if possible. This is something I have noticed about Lake Worth campus professors. They just don't put in the effort to care for students.
Chem definitely isn't easy but Profesor Chow made it a little bit easier to understand by posting powerpoints with corresponding lectures for each lesson and study guides for the tests. Discussion posts are an easy A as long as you follow the guidelines. Plenty of small extra credit opportunities as well. Put in the work and you should be fine.
She has a lot of patience
Took this online and it was so easy. Every assignment had the same clear, consistent concept and it was straightforward. She is very organized and gives really easy assignments. It was one of the classes that I didn't worry about. and she gives A LOT of extra credit so guaranteed A.
You're not going to fail Emma Chow's class if you put in effort. It's not even about necessarily being super good at chemistry, it's about being willing to put in effort. There are so many extra credit opportunities, and the professor has podcasts and ALEKs assignments where everything is made so so clear, it's a really easy class, just be about it
Took this class online and she's very good. She offers extra credit with homework on a website that allows you to get practice. The only thing I can say is sometimes she goes too fast during class but there is recorded lectures that you can always watch.
Very clear grading criteria and due dates. Submit things on time and do the work- youll be fine. Her lectures are long but very useful to understand the powerpoints. Oh God, those discussions. Be sure to do them early so that you get a question to respond to! She gives a lot of extra credit, its kind of hard to fail. Just stay on top of things
Dont ever take this professor. Her syllabus is very confusing, she is rude and is also very inconsiderate. I was dropped from this class just because I missed the first assignment BECAUSE HER SYLLABUS IS CONFUSING!! DO NOT EVER TAKE HER!
PROS: Solid lectures, open-book tests and quizzes, not many assignments except for WILEY, which is a pain but it's all EC that goes towards your test CONS: She is nice, but she can be rude if people don't participate, the class is also unorganized, she spent way too much time doing gen chem review that by the end we had to cram a lot of information
Chemistry is difficult but Professor Chow does her best with excellent lectures and extra credit.
She got very petty/ rude to my class when asking us to participate more while we were trying to write down all of the notes so she stopped recording the lectures on Zoom for a quarter of the semester. We used Chem 101 for the Hw and she's super strict on showing the work the way she likes it on the take-home quizzes and tests. Overall she's okay.
The overall class was fairly easy, however she is strict on deadlines and due dates. She will not extend any dates for the exam and quizzes please be on time with your assignments.
Let me say this, she can be rude when she's asking questions and no one answers so beware of that. She cares about participation and sometimes will call out people at random. Watch her podcast videos and you'll be fine.
Took her for chem 1 and 2, she really cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. If you participate and show that you understand the material she will help you out with your grade. Explains everything throughly and that everyone is on the same page. Test and quiz scores determine if you have to take final. Loved her so much.
Professor Chow is truly a gem! She is extremely specific on her grading criteria, and this just makes everything easier. Easily accessible and gives AMAZING feedback of your work. Extra credit will RAIN ON YOU as long as you do your work. Practice tests and study guides prepare you perfectly for the exams / quizzes, and she is always an email away.
Easily my favorite professor so far. Chemistry can be tough, but Professor Chow is an incredible lecturer. Super knowledgable and communicative. If you're falling behind, just talk to her! The online homework she assigns is all relevant (also, it counts for extra credit). The tests cover exactly what was taught. I have a lot of respect for her.
class design makes it difficult to learn the material, so gotta make an active effort if you want to learn all of it
I don't understand why she has 5-star ratings, she's a very terrible teacher. If you expect to go to her class to learn or comprehend what she's spewing at you, you will not. She talks at students instead of trying to get them to fully understand the concepts and material. She seems to make things more confusing, I don't recommend her class at all.
overwhelming at first, it took a while for me to commit to her teaching style, but once I did it was smooth sailing. she is also available almost whenever for help. strict but laxed at the same time. watch the videos, ask questions, ample opportunity for extra credit. learned a lot.
I had to devote this entire semester to her class. She speeds through her lessons and never records them! She expects you to solve problems her way and if that's not done then no credit. Those quizzes were a nightmare always 5-10 minutes for 3-10 questions. If you can take a better professor, then do it.
Professor Chow is good in overall and she is willing to help her student but expects to know what she is talking about with just one time of her explaining the subject so get ready to stress out.
Prof. Chow was honestly really fair. The material at hand is just very difficult and theres lots of it. She does a good job at helping to make sure you understand. Uses Chem101, all HW acts as EC on tests. Beware lots of Quizzes/Tests- good opportunity to raise or lower your grade.1Q & 1T dropped. I will be taking her again for CHM1045 In the Fall.
Took her chm1045 completely online, although the class was a little easy it was material heavy. Some things were very hard to understand with the way it was shown. The only homework was discussion posts which she gave you weeks to complete all come from the textbook that's required, 4 exams, and 4 quizzes. There are bonus quizzes for extra credit.
Personally I wouldn't ever recommend this teacher. If you're not good at test, or think you will need to makeup an assignment at least once, don't waste your time on this teacher, NO makeups. Also, she expects everything done to perfection, and if it is not you will receive an automatic zero(even negative points for getting ONE question wrong!).
Bruh this teacher is not it. Had an F majority of the semester and was finally able to bring it up to a C at the end. Do the extra credit, you're going to NEED it. And her teaching just isn't good. Take it if you have to but let her be your last choice. You're going to have to fight to pass.
What a nightmare! she flies through the lessons. she so picky on written answer choices on tests/quizzes its either her way or the high way. she wants you to follow her method on answering questions when it comes to exams or its wrong. she grades you so heavy when it coms to showing your work. choose a better professor and save your gpa and money
No lockdown browser, lectures pre-recorded, homework was online, and pop quizzes but you had due dates for everything from the start. Everything is spread out, she had discussion posts but they were super easy. She's just sweet and wants to help you. Don't buy the book cause you have to pay for Pearson to do homework, includes access to the book.
I struggled with her teaching style. Very nice professor, but there was so much content and it was progressive. If you didn't get something in the beginning, it made the next unit very difficult. You don't get to see what you got wrong, so it is hard to learn from you mistakes. I had to drop the course. Signed up again next semester in person.
shes a piece of work but the most decent professor at palm beach state
The best option you could choose for CHM1045 would be her. She breaks up lecture videos & gives extra credit. Extra credit was avg. 90-100, 10 pts. Beware bc lots of quizzes. The lowest quiz grade gets dropped IF you get 100 on all discussion posts. The use of made-up elements, I thought was strange. Regardless she was okay, taking her for CHM1046.
Irresponsible and never helpful outside of class
plz, save yourself and your grade. She is the worst teacher I have ever taken. DO NOT listen to the positive reviews, they are most likely fake. Her test and quizzes are nothing like the lectures. It is literally impossible for you to get an A or even a B in her class.
She's rude and love to see her students fail
Professor Chow's course is very difficult. Her lecturers are confusing and the first portion of her tests/quizzes are not worded well and offer little time. She does not teach like an intro to chem course. The only reason why I did well is that I had time to teach myself and I knew someone who took chem. if math/science is ur weakness do not take.
Her class is very difficult if you are going to take it make sure to do all the extra credit she offers.
I would heavily recommend taking another professor. She does a very poor job explaining the material and how to solve problems. Most of class is listening to her work out a couple problems with very little elaboration for how to approach those problems.
If you Actually want to learn and pass the class, do not take this course with this professor. Nothing is explained well enough to retain.
I was nervous to take Gen Chem, especially during the shortened summer semester, but Professor Chow was an amazing teacher. Her lectures are well organized and she has excellent video content for studying. Genuinely concerned about her students and made every effort to make sure all students understood the material. Extra credit was helpful too.
Do not take online if you are taking this course, the lectures are difficult to understand and the quizzes/test are hard to comprehend.
DO NOT IGNORE honestly if you can do chemistry in your sleep go on ahead but if u want a professor that speeds through the material and leaves you confused and stupid and does not even answer your questions thoroughly like a real professor should please avoid chow cause this professor aint it save yourself
honestly great prof, homework was only for extra credit (20 points each), discussions were v easy, she has 1 quiz and 1 test per lesson and then the final exam and final discussion. her lectures were good to watch and helped a lot, quiz contained around 10 questions, drops the lowest test grade, great prof definitely taking her again for ochem.
easy class just watch the lectures and ur gonna be good, her lectures aren't complicated and if u have a question about your test grade she responds very quick and can even replace your test grade if you show her during the meeting that u understood
RUN AWAY IF YOU WANT TO PASS!! The professor's lecture videos aren't bad and if you follow them, you'll feel like you understood it all UNTIL YOU TAKE HER QUIZZES! She invented her own elements and units of measurements that show up on timed exams which is confusing. Honestly felt like she was working against her students. I advise you to stay away
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS RUN FAR AWAY IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.
absolutely not. I took her class because it was the only one left available. Full regret. Her teaching via Classroom (not even Zoom) is very confusing. She flies through the lecture, at this rate everyone lies and says that they understand it. We understand nothing. Do NOT take her. Her tests are impossible. Her grading is VERY confusing. BYE!
BEWARE, not sure how i managed to pass this class but i did. it is extremely difficult, she flies by the lectures. Had to make a gc w/ classmates and do AKTIV homework together. Tests are hard and long, you only get 85 minutes to do them. this course was hard, if you don't constantly ask questions ur screwed. grading is weird, she adds bonus point
Professor Chow is nice & understanding however her grading system is confusing and the last two exams were done in the last two weeks of class. We only had 1 lecture for each WHOLE unit. I definitely could've gotten an A if it weren't for that. She expects us to understand everything right away and if not she gets mad. She gives some extra credit
I could not find any great chm professor at our school. I only signed up for her class because she was the most decent. She is complex and confusing. Thankfully, I passed.
One of the WORST teachers I've had, grading was horrible and your grade would go down one whole letter with one bad test and go up absolutely nothing if you had 100 other good assignments. First time i ever failed a class. In her lectures she would act like you knew the basic on how to do something instead of explaining how to do it from zero.
This class is tough, but with the right study tools like unstuckstudy ai, you can get through it. The lectures move fast, so staying engaged and asking questions is key. Tests are challenging, but the professor is genuinely concerned about student success.
There's so many bad reviews on this professor but she's honestly such a great teacher, you'll actually remember chemistry...trust me. This class is pretty hard, with a lot of homework and studying but if you truly study the material, you will get a good grade. She offers SO MUCH extra credit and will give test corrections.
She's a wonderful chemistry professor.
Only thing to watch out for is group projects even if you are online. Overall great teacher, everything is easily done only, tests with lockdown browser but not in person.
She's an amazing lab teacher and we always ended class early. We never stayed past 2:30.
Tough grader. Takes extra points off your test grade for not getting a 10/10 on discussion which is really disheartening. I'd recommend taking her in person vs online/hybrid
She was great and really helpful. As long as you tried and did the extra credit and other assignments its impossible to fail.
Took her for chem 2 online lecture. Test had no camera or lock down browser. Discussions were easy if you did discussion right you got 3 extra credit points on test. Easy A. (Her in person organic is VERY Different) But take her online for chem 2. Easy A plus no stress.
She is a fantastic teacher; she cares about her students and always ensures everyone understands the lecture and what is going on; she will help outside of class hours and is very understanding regarding homework and tests. 10/10 experience, hands down.
Run the other way as fast as you can! All she does is throw random scribbles, expecting us to somehow understand her mess of words. If you're looking for actual insight, you're better off figuring it out yourself.
Her teaching style just wasn't for me. She was pretty nice and she helps re-explain things. She does get fairly frustrated at times. She gives us an example to work on and expects us to be done very fast. Her handwriting is difficult to understand at times and I wish the class were a bit more organized. I feel like I'm teaching myself.
Professor is overly strict, if you are late to an assignment or quiz for whatever reason, it does not matter to her. If you're lucky, she'll unlock the assignment for you but only for you to get extra credit. Discussions are more work than they should be. There are extra credit opportunities, the only redeeming factor. Choose someone else.
loved proffessor chow
RUUUUNNNNN! The only reason I passed was because of extra credit and test corrections; otherwise, it was awful. Very disorganized, she moved at a very fast pace and gave you a minute to work out a problem and got fairly frustrated if you didn't finish or if you didn't understand. Personally, she felt very judgmental.
PARTICIPATE!!! Especially if it's live online. She will get mad if no one asks a question, just ask whatever, it'll help. She is helpful and has virtual and in-person office hours. There were surprise group assignments that she mostly did for participation. Also, you can retake tests with her during office hours for a better grade.
Do not take this professor. Online course and she makes no effort to be available for her students and does not provide helpful feedback whatsoever. Grades are corrected if you go over your quiz but if you never have a chance to go over your quiz due to their lack of availability you just get screwed out of it. Also is always late to meetings.
Idk whatsup with the other reviews but she is a great professor honestly. Im currently taking her fully online and the work is doable I work a full-time job in the hospital and im still able to manage the workload. She doesnt assign a lot of work, just a 4 test and 4 discussions as well as a few quizzes. lots of extra credit opportunities as well.
NO LOCKDOWN BROWSER OR WEBCAM! She gives study guides, PowerPoints, and video lessons. No assignments (just bonuses), extra credit, and 4 discussion post that are very well explained. I stink at chemistry and it was so easy. If you take this class online there is no reason you can't get an A.
I highly recommend you take Prof Chow's online course. With a full time job I was able to complete each assignment on time and not stress. She gives extra credit and gives bonus assignments. Her instructions were very clear and she follows her syllabus. Easy to contact and I would def love to have her as my prof for future classes!
Very fast paced. Tests are very long. The class is already hard not sure why she makes it trickier and harder than it has to be. Has little patience when expecting students to participate and answer q's. If fast paced and math isn't your thing chose someone else.
