I think she grades slightly on the hard side. Its her first yr at LUC & you can tell shes still adjusting, but overall I think she will be a good teacher. Shes pretty helpful & explains concepts well.
In lecture she has a tendency to read off the slides, but always answers questions very thoroughly. She tells students to read the textbook and she means it. The tests do have mostly lecture stuff, but the book will help you understand the topic.
She will read power points word for word and will struggle to answer any questions that are brought up. She says certain things won't be on test and then they are...not cool. Overall class is a waste of time you can just read the powerpoints but you'll need to go to class to take the 5 unannounced quizzes. Try to find someone better if possible
Dr Feeney is a great teacher! Yes,she does read off the slides but her aim is to make sure everybody explains everything! Answers all questions and will go and find out the answer if she can't answer it! I love her and am definitely taking her for Bio 102! I think she'll do GREAT at Loyola!! 5 unannounced quiz, 4 tests, final noncomprehensive,no hw
Took her for cell bio lab. Easy A. No traditional lab notebook or write-ups, so most of the labs can be finished with time to spare and the write-ups done in class. Quizzes and lab practicals are straight-forward and pretty easy. You will pretty much get an A on the lab notebook if you attend all the classes.
5 pop quzzies, so need to come to class. 4 exams, non-cumulative. Gives very good and detailed notes. I never used my text book to study. I only studied right before the exams and ended up with a B+. Pretty easy for a science class.
love her!!! super nice and really helpful...really easy too. plus who can't resist FEENAY! FEE HEE HEE HEENAY!
DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR GPA!!
Ok, this is complicated, but at the beginning she was a great teacher and easy! first test solid, didn't open the book. then all of a sudden she because crazy tough, not putting on the test what she said she would, quizzes became horrible! Don't know what happened! but STAY AWAY!
Has a very demeaning tone during lectures. Doesn't seem like she really likes students at all. Do NOT recommend
OK so Biol 101 was easy.. then suddenly at biol 112 she became a hard teacher. her powerpoint are now useless. now you have to open book and study really hard and will still get a B. Or!! may be its because she has a baby in her that fluctuates her hormone level.
First semester (BIO 101) was great with her. I would never have to read the book and would get A's on the exams. Then came BIO 102! Although she gives enormous amounts of extra credit for participation with the clicker, I felt that I had to study a lot more, plus the exams were very difficult and tricky with the wording.
Do not take this class if you want to learn Biology well. She is not helpful at all and she is very demeaning toward students when they do not understand something. In addition, there is no ability to make up work even if you have Dr's note stating that you cannot come to class.
don't take her
Dr. Feeney is a great professor. You really should come to class and print out the lecture notes before coming. Take notes while she talks and study them before the exam along with reading the assigned chapters. Overall, easy class as long as you pay attention and read the book.
Labs are long! Every 2 weeks there's a lab report due. She's a tough and picky lab report grader, but if you follow the grading rubric , u should be fine. She gives pop quizzes in class for the 1st half of sem and take-home quizzes the 2nd half. Exams are also tough, but she's really helpful in class and out of class.
Cell Bio Lab was an interesting class. Ms. F is a very picky grader on lab reports. Her exams are not bad. Exams are mult ch. format. She is very helpful in office hrs and feedback on lab reports is great. There are pop quizzes, be on the look out! Recommend Ms. Feeney to future students!!!
Dr. Feeney is a a very good teacher. If you come to class prepared, listen and pay attention to her powerpoints, you will do absolutely fine. She is a very genuine and approachable professor. You should take her class all the way!
I love biology. Feeney is the worst teacher I have ever had. I never thought it was possible for biology to not be interesting, but she was able to do it.
If you take her class be prepared to study weeks in advance for her exams. Lectures are all based on her power points. She is a nice individual but her exams are impossible even when studying way ahead of time. She's also very strict when it comes to following the rules & her syllabus is her Bible. I give her a C----.
Her exams are a little tough, but she goes out of her way to explain things to you when you don't understand. Great teacher
If you want A, then its not worth it to take it with her. She grades too hard on the labs and the final report. Take davidson instead.
Although you have to study a few weeks prior to the exam it is not a huge deal because the exams are straight from lecture so reading the book is not necessary. If you study in advance, use her office hours and attend class you should do well in her class. She is not there to trick you and is very helpful and clear when lecturing.
You just have to read the pages indicated in the book for the exams. She's actually pretty helpful if you come to her office hours. I'm a Bio major, and I'd prolly take her again in a higher Bio class.
this is an easy class. shes an awesome teacher- she explains things really well and is more that willing to answer any/all questions during lecture. her tests are striaght off her power points- i've never read from the book.... its an easy A if you prepare from her notes and go to class...
I really like her. Exams are relatively straight forward, and As are possible on all of them. Clicker points are extra credit, scaled over 10 possible points. She has zero tolerance for talking or goofing off in class, so pay attention. Her response time by email is insanely fast, and she's extremely helpful.
Dr. Feeney was a great professor to have. She was always very clear on what would be on the test. Just go through the powerpoints and the pages she covers in the book and you will be fine. Mastering Biology assignments are very helpful on the tests and clicker points are bonus. Take her!
She is a solid professor. She knows her stuff and she's a great teacher. Very clear and helpful. Kind of difficult to get an A though. You really have to study a lot for the exams to even get B+. If you want to learn Biology, I would recommend Dr. Feeney.
Feeney is not a very hard teacher. You have to go into her office to see your test. BIG PROBLEM: She will not let you see what the right answers are (even in her office days after everyone has completed the exam). I do not recommend her. You will not learn Biology well. She doesn't like to answer questions and will tell you to look it up yourself.
Feeney is a good teacher. Easy to get a good grade as long as you study the notes and go to class.
I really did not enjoy this class, I thought the way she presented the material was very confusing. She really isnt that knowledgeable on anything besides the exact book definitions. She claims to test on application but instead makes poorly worded tests that are more about remembering details, If you ask her a question she usually cannot answer it
She is the nicest lady in the world but the worst grader ever. She grades her lab reports so strictly and it's LITERALLY not possible to get an A in her class. I have the highest grade in the class and I have a B+ I asked her whether or not she's going to curve and guess what??? SHE DOESN'T!!
She basically just throws information at you in class and just reads off the power points. Her quizzes and tests can be hard as much as you study anyway ahead of time. Plus, she words her questions on tests and quizzes really confusing, which are every week.
If this is your first type of Biology class, I would highly recommend Dr. Feeney. She is very by the book during lectures but does also expect you to understand and apply the information. If you are sincerely dedicated to studying biology for whatever reason (I'm a psychology major), then this is a great course to build that foundation. STUDY!!
Hard class, especially if you haven't taken AP Bio. She's nice in office hours, but still not very helpful. The class is doable, but I would take someone better if possible.
She is good at lecturing. She makes her exams very hard and they require a lot of studying. If you look at your notes, do the online homework, and do the cumulative tests on Mastering Bio you should be able to get an B. She includes extra Mastering Bio assignments that are for extra credit.
I think she's a nice person, but not a nice professor.
tests and quizzes are very hard even if you study. i would avoid if possible.
Good lecturer. Multiple Mastering assignments. Exams are not easy, but A is doable if you study hard for it. Opened to help her students as long as they look for her first. Have a high standard, you need to be able to connect different concepts that you've learned to solve problems on the exams, but I'll say it's a mandatory skill to pursue science
I liked her a lot being my first Biology class in college. Slides are straight from questions from the book and she uses those for exams and quizzes. Yeah you have to work but it's college.
I found her to be intimidating because she was so strict. She goes through information somewhat quickly. There is typically a lot of MasteringBio that you have to do for homework. The quizzes are 1st individual and then group and she takes the average of those scores. The tests are hard though. If you want a good grade you really have to study.
Dr. Feeney is a pretty intimidating person to the point where you are nervous to ask her questions. She's pretty sassy and her lectures do get very boring, even though she requires participation. Tests and quizzes are not too bad also.
If you skip class you wont be there for TOPHAT questions (which count for a grade) and you'll miss important info - Go to class! Theres lots of quizzes, never really studied just listened in class. 1 take home midterm, final not cumulative. She makes it so easy to get a good grade but you'll actually understand the material. Take her!!!
there's online participation and it just pays to show up if you don't want to read the book. She makes everyone aware of quizzes and tests well in advance with the syllabus, but masteringbio homework she doesn't always warn us when it's due so you need to check. the homework is pretty easy tho and first test wasn't bad
She was really nice and cares about her students and the material. She took every opportunity to make sure that we understood the material and did her best to make sure we had every opportunity to ask her questions. Tests are kind of long and questions can be confusing but if you do well on the mastering HW you'll be ok. 2 Mastering HW each week.
She's a good if somewhat intimidating. She makes office hours very available and wants to answer your questions. Quizzes aren't bad. The class is very lecture heavy and the material itself tends to be difficult.
Professor Feeney is possibly my favorite professor at Loyola. she is very clear in her lectures and gives infinite extra credit on every homework assignment. incredibly helpful outside of class if you go in to see her and will walk you through anything you don't understand. two exams, one take home midterm, plus a non-cumulative final
Great professor. Had to do extra credit works to make up for the exam instead of curving it but overall still fair. Used Top hat and Pearson. Exams are multiple choices that are kind of lengthy but totally doable. She looked extremely intimidating at first but she's actually very friendly
From my experience, I did not enjoy Biology with professor Feeney, and I did worse than I thought I would. Must just be the content. Personal feelings aside, her power points are detailed with helpful images and she shares them online, but GO TO CLASS because participation is through Top Hat. Reading the textbook will help supplement material too!
I didn't know that the extra credit points on mastering biology weren't automatically put in the gradebook til the very end of the semester and my grade went up 3%.... do the work for her class and youll be fine.
I had Dr. Feeney for BIO101 and I'm so glad I did! She really knows her material and is always open for questions. On one of the exams she noticed people didn't do so well and decided to give extra credit by correcting the questions we got wrong! There is a lot of homework on masteringbiology, but its easy points. She also does a few group quizzes
Uphill point battle class where you learn how to tiptoe around a rubric. Hostile lab environment with unenthusiastic teacher. We learned a warped form of enzyme kinetics using the entire reaction period to find velocity, not the initial rate. Therefore it's a meaningless calculation, somewhat like the class itself
I really learned a lot from her and I feel I have a deep understanding of the material after taking her class. I did really have to study, but the homework assignments reinforce concepts and her lectures are clear and great to study from. She offers extra credit and is dry at times but overall a good choice. I wouldn't mind having her again!
I HATED bio 101 because of her. Her lectures are online but go to class for top hat participation. Her masteringbios are long and hard. I guess I would've done better if I read the book, but I was a freshman. I felt she wanted us to know every little detail. Would not take again
I absolutely love Dr. Feeney! I often left her class wanting to change my major to biology. She makes the material so clear and easy to understand. Sometimes in lecture she talks really fast to it's hard to keep up. Almost all the quizzes are group quizzes so they're an easy 10 points. Also there is extra credit available with every chapter.
Good Professor. Lectures can be a bit dry at times, but overall, pretty engaging. Attendance not mandatory but she does in-class top hat questions that you have to be present for. Heavy tests that require studying. Usually lets us do our quizzes in groups. If you can take someone else though, I would. She's not the BEST.
She has everyones best interest at heart and as long as you read the textbook and study a lot on your own time this class should go by smoothly! Feeney always answers questions and is lenient at curving tests.
She is a pretty solid choice: the quizzes were all group quizzes so it's easy to get high quiz scores. The tests can be quite difficult but if you read the textbook and pay attention during lectures you can pass. She also gives lots of extra credit with the homework, and never hesitates to add bonus points onto tests.
Compared to other bio 101 professors, I feel like Dr. Feeney is a great choice. You basically have to take good notes on her slides and you'll do fine. One take home exam which helps a lot for your grade.
Dr. Feeney is a unenthusiastic professor and this really shows in the lab setting. Unfair exams and a extremely hostile lab environment. Does not care if you succeed in the course. Mid way through the semester everything shifted online due to COVID and the online labs saved all of us from the harsh grading. Find another lab course!
Lectures are not worth your time. Everything is on Mastering and questions make 0 sense if you only watch the lectures. Discussions are helpful but only meet for 50 min a week, but most of the class is independent and self taught. There are no office hours offered. Be prepared to read a lot and micromanage on your own if you take this class.
She doesn't really do much as for active learning. She posts lectures each week you have to watch and go to discussion once a week but you don't have to participate just show up. Tests are 75 questions in 75 minutes its kinda rough you have to go fast. Questions aren't that bad but time is an issue. Gives extra credit and 1 HW each week.
Not really an easy "A" class. You have to put in the work to do well. Mastering homework every week but you have extra credit you can do. Quizzes every Friday, they weren't the easiet but if you watched the lectures and had the textbook in hand you would do fine. Exams were 75 questions in 75 mins which was challenging but manageable.
Difficult lectures to listen to. All were pre-recorded lectures w/ powerpoints she told us to watch instead of reading the textbook. Lectures were simple in comparison to quizzes/exams. If you want to do well, DONT WASTE TIME ON LECTURES! Just read the textbook and use THEIR practice questions. Maybe shes better in person, but not w/ covid times.
The online tests and quizzes were much, much tougher than her lectures. Was still doable given the extra credit, which can move you up about 3%. You have to do well on the tests though.
Dr. Feeney is very critical of small details that involve the studies you read. Her assignments are all group work and hard to decipher. She let everyone retake the first exam because Im guessing everyone did so poorly on it. Took this class with bio chem lecture but it did not help to connect the material from the two classes.
I'm not sure I understand all the negative reviews for Dr. Feeney. She is a harsh grader, but she gives clear guidelines, and so long as you follow her guidelines, you'll be just fine. She's very helpful and gives great feedback on assignments - make sure to apply it! Biochem lab online wasn't bad, but I'm not sure how it would be in person.
Her instructions were never cleared. Even when asked questions to clarify, she never responded in a way to actually understand what we need to do. She was unsympathetic. Her grading was too harsh and I did not learn what I thought I was supposed to. I would avoid taking her.
I do enjoy Dr. Feeney as a person but as a non bio major I found her class to be incredibly difficult content wise. She has a ton of helpful resources however and wants you to truly succeed in the class. There is a ton of work in the class but it is manageable if you enjoy biology and want to learn more about it. She cares a lot about her students.
Decent teacher, she relies a lot on PowerPoints and almost expects you to know everything before she even teaches it to you. Lots of quizzes and homework but it can help your grade. Her tests are nice, she gives you time to take them but they can be difficult. Just be ready to self-teach yourself almost.
I really enjoyed Dr. Feeney. She adds a lot of extra bonus points at the end of the semester and shes a fair grader. Shes a great lecturer and very well versed in what shes lecturing on. It can be easy to feel discouraged at first in her course, but it gets better. The tests are online and there are assignments and extra points for each chapter.
It was rough, the class is out of 550 points, 1 practice research paper for 100 points, 1 real research paper for 100, 100 for midterm, rest is from quizzes, lab notebook checks and etc. The questions on the quizzes/midterm are mostly from the powerppoints, but for some reason she says one or two specific things in class and it's on the the tests.
I loved Dr. Feeney! We used mastering biology and it gives you A LOT of resources to use which is nice. Feeney made sure she was accessible outside of the classroom. Quizzes were done in groups. Tests were all online open book open note. She does take participation points. Just do your work and the class isnt bad at all
Extremely hostile lab environment. She will encourage you to ask questions and yet become very upset and respond in an unhelpful manner when you do.
Professor is good but there is awful lot of homework that is just there. No reminder and crazy expensive books including mastering biology.
Dr. Feeney's biology class is by no means an easy A, however, she gives her students an incredible foundation for their future biology courses. Dr. Feeney challenges her students to grow and, now that I'm taking upper level biology courses, I'm grateful for the foundation that Dr. Feeney gave our class because it's made these courses miles easier.
Dr. Feeney was a very nice professor. Attendance is very important, during every class there are questions posted through Top Hat that are graded on accuracy. Lots of homework and quizzes. To me this class was stressful but Dr. Feeney makes sure she's accessible and is always willing to help.
Dr.Feeney is an amazing professor, I can even confidently say that she is the best professor I have taken at this school. She is very accessible outside of class and provides amazing feedback on assignments and lab notebooks. Her exams are a little tricky but not impossible. Come to lab very prepared by reading her background handouts and procedure
For a lab, this class was not that much work, but Dr. Feeney is a really stern professor. She would sometimes yell at people in lab for making a mistake, but if you follow the lab manuals you should be good. The notebooks and quizzes were graded kind of harshly, but just listen to her feedback and you'll do well. The exams are hard but online.
Dr. Feeney is AMAZING. She is intimidating at first, but she's probably one of the best professors here. She knows what she's doing and if you actually want to learn biology and make it applicable to your life, then take her class. It is a lot of work, but the class is structured very well. Definitely taking her class again!
this was probably the hardest class I have ever taken. she was not a helpful teacher, she was mean to us and it was just very overwhelming. I almost withdrew from the class bc I had a d+ but bc so many did fail out I think she went a little easier on us allowing me to up my grade. would never take again and would never wish this class upon anyone.
Dr. Feeney is the absolute worst. She may flaunt a persona of understanding and willingness to assist you, but it is a facade. Not only is her feedback inconsistent between the practice and final paper, but extremely unhelpful. I learned a lot of practical skills in this class, but no thanks to Dr. Feeney. She shouldn't teach and stick to research!
Even the CAS dean knows how terrible of a professor she is, particularly in this course. Bad feedback, unforgiving, but knowledgeable. Your grade won't reflect the effort you put into this class. Her whole excuse is that this course is 4 credits, when this is the 4th 4 credit course I've taken and was more work than all the others combined.
This class made me rethink my love for biology. Lots of trick questions on her tests and in class. In class she presented a trick question, proceeded to say "this is a trick question" and then when asked if there was going to be trick questions on the test she responded "trick questions are not a real thing you should know all the vocabulary"
She comes into class 70% of the time being rude to students, unwilling to actually give answers to questions and teach students. Half the class is independent work, and the independent work is the best part of the class because I'm not scared of being berated by her if I do something slightly incorrect. Grades undergrads like we're pHD students.
She's great! Reviews say she's hard but her class is totally doable. EC will boost you. Many quizzes, but they're group(easy). Exam corrections & you get a full note page on exams. In-class assignments not tough. High expectations, but I learned a ton! Pre-health - take her! She goes into more detail than other profs & will help you in the long run
Dr. Feeney is great at actually teaching, but one of the worst I have ever encountered with test making. The hard part of her tests was trying to decipher the convoluted questions. Several tests asked for the "most" of something and all that apply and then her answer key had several answers listed despite clearly implying a single answer.
Professor Feeney was a decent professor when it came to teaching lectures, but she taught us way too much stuff for a 101 course. My class was three chapters ahead of every Bio101 class, and we would go through 2 weeks' worth of work in one lecture. If you were behind, she wouldn't be much help and just tell you to study more.
Professor Feeney is not good at answering questions and is unclear about instructions. She is often rude and berating during class as well. She uses about 5 different websites for homework, graded, lab reports, etc. which makes the class so disorganized. She also grades pretty harshly on weekly lab assignments
If you take specifically BIO 101, just be prepared to teach yourself basically every concept she “goes over”. I've always loved science, took honors science since middle school, and I'm pretty sure when I took her course I forgot more material rather than retained it. Her office hours aren't even beneficial…drop before it's too late
Dr. Feeney seems like a nice person but is just not a greater teacher. If you go to her OH, it is like night and day compared to the lecture. She relies very heavily on Codon to teach materials outside of class and grades your completion of Codon material. She does not touch on much of the material in class, focusing more on in-class problems.
She doesnt want you to mess up, but god forbid you ask a question, you are suddenly made to feel like the most incompetent person on the planet. Her rubrics and what she said constantly contradicted each other and her grading for projects and notebooks literally made no sense. If you want to do good on her exams....good luck bud.
Everyone can get easy A's in bio and then there is her class. Exams with all "select all that apply" even when there is one right answer.
