I absolutely hated this class. Don't take him. There are better teachers out there!
Very hard teacher. Does not give out study guides and gives no breaks. Does not curve until the end of the class so you don't really know where you stand the whole semester. I have never dreaded going to a class until I came to this one.
Very hard. Very confusing when giving lectures, makes no sense. No study guides, 3 question midterms (which sucks for grading) Really have to dedicate time to this class if you pplan on taking him.
Yes, this is a hard class, but it is worth it if you really want to learn some macroeconomics. He curves at the end which is good, so you just need to work hard. Only lazy students will give negative comments. Take him if you want to learn, you won't regret!
Horrible teacher. Do not take him.
pretty hard class but there is very nice curve at the end of the course, so its worth taking. I ended up w/ A- . 3 exams with only a few questions on each which kinda stunk, but if you know your stuff you should do fine. Not an easy class, but if you work hard it will pay off!
His lectures are a little confussing. You really have to dedicate time to this classs if you want a good grade. He does his best to help you understand the material. HE CURVES AT THE END. which is really good. I got a B+ which I think is amazing for failing one midterm. If you take this class you HAVE TO study a lot. Exams are straight forward.
Professor Lartey is very straight forward and he's a good professor. He doesn't move forward until the whole class understands the material, which is good. To get an A, just study the lecture notes and attend class, and you'll do fine. Midterms consisted of 3 to 4 questions that are pretty easy if you study.
He gets frusterated if students do not understand material. but he does curve the entire final grade at the end. try your hardest and you should be fine. i failed a midterm but did well on everything else and got an a-. so its possible to do well. go to class because the book is online& isnt very helpful and he test off his notes
If someone says, "He's horrible, don't take him!" That person doesn't try his/her best and probably doesn't take good note. I was frustrated in his class. I got D+ on his exams, but he did nice curve, so i ended up w/ B+. He seems hard, but actually he's not. Go to every meeting class & take good notes. His exams are off from the notes.
Easiest A I got this semester. He basiclly gives you the exam questions. Do the online homework, (some exam questions are from there). Examples in class (if he keeps doing them will be on exam). You dont really need the book, because he gives you notes online sumarizin chapters. I basiclly read the notes 2 days prior to exam and Aced every exam
Goes directly to the point; noi frills; easy to learn; treats students as adults.
This is a great professor, who are willing to help you. Class not easy, very challenge, but as long as you study, you can get at least a B. paper and presentation are challenge yet midterm and final are easy. recommend him
Really nice guy, loves what he does, but the hardest econ class by far. Expects you to know everything. Paper and presentation are a breeze if you follow his directions, and let people make it up who failed it. Tests are hard but based off of homework questions. He expects a lot from you, but is genuinely nice
He is hilarious. He gets really frustrated when people ask about the tests and what will be on them. This is definitely not an "easy" class but he makes the information easy to understand and therefore it's possible to well on his exams.
Int'l Econ. Must show up to lectures, he dishes out lots of important information. Material can get confusing at times, he tries his best to help you understand. Do NOT fall behind. I understood the material but did not put forth my potential effort, he was nice enough to give me a B-. If you try hard you will pass. Book sucks. He posts PDF notes
SOOO confusing for the first couple of weeks... i fell behind one day and i was lost retty much the rest of the semester... hold tight.. it gets easier.. i was doing horrible on the tests.. but i showed effort and got a B-... hes funny. laughs when u ask a Ques.
Hard teacher. Does not help students at all. The only thing worht mentioning is his curve. Grading is a little unfair and shows no interest to students questions.
Good professor but you must be willing to work for your grade. show up for classes, work on assignments and you will do just fine. Curve is cool.
hard class but enjoyable.
This is not an easy class, exams usually are just like homework, need to make time for the class. He does his best to make you understand.
Definitely interesting professor; class is not easy, midterms based on homework. He curves, which is good.
Prof. is absolutely FAIR on everything. The quizzes and exams are STRAIGHT from the exam. I hardly used the book, because the notes and study guides that are given prior to any exams or quizzes are 100% useful. I failed the 1st exam bc. I was sick that day so I rushed through it, but I brought up my grade & passed easily by studying hard.
My sister, friend and I all took his class and we loved it! He is a great teacher who really knows what he is talking about. He knows how to explain topics in several ways and always makes sure everyone understands them before moving on. This isn't an easy A, but if you're not lazy and put some effort into it you will defiantly pass and learn a lot
this class is straight forward and he is not out to get anyone ..i think the grading system is really fair in that if you try you should be able to get a decent grade..i got a b-...i defiantly liked the structure of this class
I really enjoyed this class. His exams and quizzes were very straight forward. He tells you exactly what you need to know its just a matter of putting in the effort to study the material. Overall a great professor
hes a fun guy and great teacher. explains everything really thoroughly. accent is a little hard to understand. grades really easy. quizzes and tests are straight from the notes and hw assignments. doesnt collect hw. its better to go to class but not essential..
Mr. Lartey is a pretty cool guy and he teaches really well. The material is difficult at times, but he explains everything very well. If you study his notes and use the book or the powerpoint as complement you'll be good to go.
He's a cool guy. He tried his best to help you understand. No homeworks. Quizzes and exams are straight from the notes and hw assignments. It's better to go to class.
Good teacher and fair grader--highly recommended.Tests/Quizes are fairly challenging, and 1 report is required for the class. First couple chapters are pretty easy, but gets pretty hard during the end--so study hard--final is 40% of your grade ;) Other than that, lectures are clear and you actually learn useful economics stuff!
This brother is pretty easy. The text is helpful but not necessary for success. Dr. Lartey seems to have an attitude at times but I think he's a fair grader. He curves like a mutha!
If you read the text, this class is easy. His lectures summarize what's in the book but doesn't cover everything. He's a straight up "4 yr university prof" that doesn't tolerate any BS, but he's a very cool guy and is open to your opinion and Q's. He grades on a very nice curve. I learned a lot from this class about world trade and markets.
Great professor. Really cares about you and wants you to understand the material. He's very passionate and makes the class fun, and I don't generally like the subject. His tests are based mostly on his powerpoint slides and lecture. Book unnecessary. Guaranteed a C if you try at all, pretty easy B. Possible A. Curve helps a lot. RECOMMENDED.
Tells you exactly what will be on the exams and quizzes, just print out the powerpoint notes and you will be fine. One paper, 1-4 pages, not bad at all. He knows what he's talking about, sometimes students don't get it, maybe because of his accent, but overall its a good class.
Take good notes n print out Powerpoint.Quizzes are frm practice Hw & he tells you what to study for.His teaching methods are easy to understand, but if you don't get it,questions are always encouraged. His class is very easy and I enjoy going to his lectures.2midterms 1 final and a quiz 2 wks before each one. Also 1 3-4 page paper based off an article
His class is great. He takes time to explain things well. If someone says he doesn't help, they are the CRAZY ones with issues. He is always available to help you. take him. his class is fun.
Knows his stuff. I think he expects a lot from students but you will learn a lot too. Do not take this class if you do not have time.
Ok class. He is hard to understand. When I went to his office hour for help, he basically implied that I was a lazy student and that is why I wasn't doing well. He doesn't answer questions in a helpful manner.
Goes directly to the point; easy to learn; treats students as adults.
Good; He is not bad for an Econ class. Notes are good; you might not need the book. Tests and quizzes have no surprises. Bad; beware, he might just memorize your name and ask questions all semester long. I saw him making people feel dumb at times, saying he was disappointed and sending e-mails to the class regarding that student?s commentary.
Not an easy class, but he made sure we understood the subject by repeating everything. Use his slides and take good notes. He's an overall great professor and has a sense of humor. I would definitely take him again. With effort, an A is possible. :)
Hes a pretty good teacher. The econ department has bad teachers all together hes one of the best. His tests are from his lecture and yeah he has an accent but its totally understandable. He also has quizzes and sometimes the same questions on tests. good guy. take him its a easy C if u look over power points and attend class regulary.
He really teaches the subject, explains pretty well. can be tough at times but generally easy going. follow instructions, take note of things he emphasizes cuz they show in exams.
awful teacher, doesnt explain a damn thing. basically rereads his lectures and then finds the most complicated way to teach whats in it. No basic teaching skills what so ever.
He is one of the best profs I've had. explains concepts in different ways, and uses practical examples. He's fun too but can pick on students to make them participate. I'll take another class with him.
great prof, cool guy but no-nonse. lectures are clear and detailed; he expects you to work for your grade. 2 midterms and a final; quizzes are given prior to every midterm, with some questions repeated. you should do well if you work hard.
caveat emptor. he rates himself here. and he really was wearing sunglasses when i went to see him in his office. had the attitude to match, too -- wouldn't answer my questions. i finally gave up on him. take someone else; you'll be happier.
this class challenged me, but I learned a lot. He uses a curve, which helps a lot. He's a good teacher overall.
He is well organized, very good at elucidating confusing concepts and made sure everybody understands the material. He related course to real world, he made tests good, did not try to trick you. Appears intimidating at times but really, he is not. I'll take another class if he instructs other courses.
One of my favorite professors! Great TEACHER! He actually teaches you and it sticks because he relates it to the real world to make sure that you understand the concepts. Just study what he goes over class! He loves to teach!!!
Hurraaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
honestly, at first i was very skeptical of him because of what other people have said about him. he is a brilliant teacher, although we didnt get along at first he was very helpful towards the end. i was failing throughout the year with not receiving higher than a 61% on anything. i took the final, (worth 50% of your grade) Aced it and passed w/a C
It's true that this prof has an issue with his attitude. He doesn't like students asking questions at the end of lecture and sounds sarcastic at some point. However, the materials are pretty easy to understand, and they are even easier if you read textbooks as a side. He is master in breaking down materials and feedig them to you. He is a good prof
Attendance is not required, but if you don't go, good luck. No textbook, all notes. Prof is lazy, so grading is usually minimal for him. Can't justify your wrong answers, even though the whole class read the question the same way you did. Material is tough to begin with, he always says "it's a 400-level". Expects students to know a lot going in.
Lartey is very condescending! Has an attitude and will make anyone feel stupid on many levels. He cannot teach...period. He will find many ways to make himself appear superior in Econ and English language. If you do not understand anything, he will ask you, "Am I speaking English?" Quizzes are like mini Exams, Exams are hard. No textbook; All notes
A very passionate and good teacher. He wants students to focus on learning and not grades. This class challenged me, but I passed. Exams are repeat quizzes and some more. This was a good experience for me.
I think this prof is very good. May be students don't like that the class is tough. I disagree with student saying he condescends. He is genuinely nice, but expects a lot from you. Class is taught at a high level, and you will learn a lot. Be prepared to work hard for this class.
Okay, this is not an easy class but he is good in explaining things. He pushes you to work hard. Do everything he tells you to and you will be okay. He is kind of strict but very personable if u get to know him.
Professor is knowledgeable and I enjoyed his teaching style. He tries to explain things in different ways, uses some real life examples. can be funny at times. Gives two midterms and a final, and grades on a curve. Questions are very fair.
Professor Lartey is a good teacher. The class is somewhat tough, you must take good notes in order to receive a good grade. The final is a little harsh, because it contains 50 percent of your grade..the class gets harder towards the end so don't slack off! textbook are not required but it does help quite a bit on the explanation. GOOD LUCK!
Lartey is a good teacher, he might frighten some because he is a straight talker and doesn't like it when he isn't receiving feedback from students. His quizzes are great because they are 80% of the multiple choice questions used on the next exam. the exact same questions. Study for the write in answers usually will be graphs of some sort.
I took Lartey for my Economics Capstone course. He calls you out on everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) that you have wrong in your presentations, and explains the correct answers afterward. He might come off as a jerk to some because of it, but this was a capstone course, so you are expected to know your stuff. He's tough, but fair and smart.
I didn't get along pretty well with Lartey, but I must admit he has the ability to explain thing in a way you can understand. If you want to learn sth about Macro he's the one to take. Easiest test I've ever taken. There was no question on the final that hasn't been on a quiz or midterm. That's nice :)
HE IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT ECONOMICS AND IF YOU ARE AN ECONOMICS MAJOR YOU WILL ENJOY HIS CLASS. HIS TESTS ARE MULTIPLE CHOICE WITH TWO SHORT WRITTEN QUESTIONS (USUALLY GIVEN PRIOR TO TEST). DO NOT LET HIM INTIMIDATE YOU, HE JUST WANTS YOU TO DO WELL. TAKE GOOD NOTES AND REVIEW AND PRACTICE THE MODELS AND YOU CAN GET AN A!
He is a nice person and has passion to teach. Will help you and push you study hard. His grading is fair and reasonable.I took his class in summer. I really enjoyed his class.
Probably the best teacher i ever had! Very passionate about economics! I learned a lot in this class. Pay attention and follow the study guide and you will do just fine! Prior to every midterm there is an in class quizz. Final counts 40%. And don t let him intimidate you!! He is a very very nice and enthusiastic professor.
The class is not easy. Go to EVERY class and take notes on the things he emphasizes, then go home and read EVERY chapter from the book. I was able to get an A this way. If you do not understand something, find the answer in the book, if you as him he WILL NOT help and will put you down. He has a terrible personality.
He seems intimidating, and kind of is but he is just very passionate in what he is teaching. The test were not difficult but you do have to study the ppt slides and the notes you take in class, and for the final, STUDY EVERYTHING from quizzes, to the exams and you will do fine
I would not recommend this professor. The good part is that there are no big surprises for exams. The bad part is that he makes everything confusing.
Prof Lartey is really cool. Students struggled not becos he is not a good prof, several of MBA students were weak. He even had a generous grade curve. May be students should assess themselves first before blaming the professor. Professor was very clear with presentation of material.
Fantastic class with fantastic prof. Great teacher, patient with students, explains very well but expects you to earn your grade. Highly recommended especially for summer session! Note: He is tough but at the same time very helpful. I enjoyed his class overall
Teaches very well, gives exam study guides in advance, quick feedback on exams, provides real examples pertaining to course material. Very Passionate prof with nice personality too.
I have had prof. Lartey for Econ 490 capstone class who was only available at the time of registration. 60% of presentation, 20% of two papers, 20% of participation. To be honest, the class was tougher than I expected, but it is because this class is for graduate students only, which requires you to be knowledgeable regarding your major.
Dr. Lartey expects nothing but the best from his students. This class will make you work for your grade, don't expect to just show up and pass. Visiting him during his office hours is key if you want to succeed. Follow the guidelines and make sure that you are knowledgable about everything you present. I learned a lot and I'm glad I took Lartey.
I took it in the summer. He gives a pretty specific study guide. There's a 40% final, 3 quizzes, 2 midterms, and 1 essay. I didn't like his lectures or personality. I had better luck learning the material on my own. Luckily, his exams are based on the PowerPoints and quizzes. He calls on you if he knows your name or if you look confused.
Straight forward class. Follow the study guide carefully and make sure to master things he says you should know. No surprises. Good and fair professor. Quizzes are good prep for exams.
Lartey is a very good professor. He's tough on students, but he's very fair in his critiques of presentations. He wants you to learn for the sake of understanding, not just passing a class. He really tests your knowledge, and he'll call you out on things you present but don't understand. Work hard, pay attention to his feedback, and you'll be fine!
Professor Lartey is a good but very challenging teacher. He wants all of his students to pass, but you have to work for it. It's no easy-A, and you have to show up to class if you want to pass, but if you work hard and put in the time and effort that is required, you will do fine. Final is cumulative and worth 40% of you grade so study hard!
Lartey is very passionate about Economics. He loves to teach this subject and will make it as fun as possible. Funny guy. Helpful.
He is a very challenging teacher. You have to work for your grade. If you're confused on anything, visit his office hours. He is very helpful. Just put the time to study and you'll do fine. Final is 40% so study hard! Quizzes are good preps for exams.
you won't pass the class if you skip the class. No TEXTBOOK required, but you need INTERMEDIATE MICRO and MACRO books for your papers. 2 MAIN PAPERS (7 pages, single spaced), 6 SUMMARIES (3 pages) and 2 PRESENTATIONS.
Your knowledge of Econ is tested in this class, and you get to show how it applies to real life. He asks tough questions and gives good feedback. This is a different kind of class so take note of his comments. May appear tough on students but he wants you to know your stuff. Very knowledgeable.
Although his class is difficult, he is very passionate about what he teaches. There is a quiz before every big test. There are 3 quizzes, 2 midterms and a final. Pay attention to his review lectures before the test because it is basically the written portion of the test. The final is a combo of the test and quizzes.
As long as you focus in class, do your work, you will be fine. I am currently taken his summer class. He is very caring. Online class and he never miss a day, he always there if you needed help. He always paused and make sure everyone understand what he just said especially because we have to cover a lot of things in a short time.
No ECON300 level course is easy, this is like the rest. The content is tough, I'm in his summer class. There are 3 quizzes (20%) and 3 exams (80%). I don't think he's rude, but he does treat us like adults.. I personally appreciate it. Exams are MC and a few long questions. He prepares us really well. Easy to pass, but you need work hard for an A.
Honestly, this class was a real nuisance for me. With the transition to online, it was much harder to follow professor Lartey around as his handwriting looked like chicken scratch. Also, it's really hard to understand him during lectures as he does go fast at times. Be prepared to work hard because this class will drive you bonkers.
You definitely need to read the textbook to know whats going on. He has a slight accent that makes lectures hard to understand and his writing is not the cleanest. But he gives very good feedback and ultimately wants you to pass. He has quizzes, midterms and finals. The final consists of a written portion and a multiple choice. Not an easy A at all
Very challenging class but I learned a lot. Pay attention during review sessions and follow his directions. Be prepared to work for your grade. Cares about students and wants you to do well. Helps if you go to office hours.
Overall, it was a tough class but Professor Lartey makes you work for the grade. If you do everything he tells you to do, you will pass. Sure enough, I passed with a B- because I did what he asked me to do, with no complaint. Every student has about a month in between each homework assignment (MORE than enough time to complete). Great teacher!
Full online in spring 2021. Zoom lectures only once a week, and prerecorded for other day. Both are long, confusing & unclear. Jumps all over the place, and is hard to understand. Accent is confusing, and handwriting on e-board is horrible. When asked questions about homework or concepts, simply says to "just understand it". No help at all to me.
Gives detailed lectures and review sessions. You must put in the work to get a high grade. You will pass if you follow his directions. quizzes, midterms and a final so the course is manageable. Online quizzes are open book so that helps. If you want an easy class to pass, this is not for you. Overall a a good experience and great professor.
One of the WORST profs I have ever had. Tests are proctorio w/Written and MC , expects everyone to know ECON like they already have their doctorate degree. Does not help students when asking questions about tests, just says, "It's straightforward." He loves when students are confused, lectures contain too much nonessential info, study guides SUCK.
Professor Emmanuel is a wonderful professor which I never meet. He explains every knowledge in every detail. He really cares about his students. Can you believe that he can respond to my email in 1 second!!!!!! Every time! He did a pretty job on his duty!!! Choose him without a doubt!!! If people give him negative feedback, they are telling a lie!
One of the best professors I have ever had. His lecture videos make it easy for me to understand the course materials. Every instruction for homework, quizzes, and exams is clear and easy to follow. An easy pass if you attend class and follow his instructions. An easy A if you work hard and review hard following his review guides.
BEST ECON PROFF! He cut out most of the calculus and makes the info digestible. This is upper level Econ, its not easy, but he made it doable while still preparing Econ and non majors alike, a sign of a great professor, he wants all of his students to not just pass, but also learn. Do the homework, show up to lecture, and ask questions <3
Macro is not an easy course. However, Prof. Lartey will explain topics over and over again until you understand them. He is very understanding and responds to emails almost instantly. I experienced many tech complications during the course and the prof was extremely kind and was willing to accommodate. Take him! You'll be happy you did!
Professor Lartey is very knowledgeable. He teaches very clearly and does not mind repeating till you learn. He is straightforward and tells you what he expects from you to know. He was very understanding when I faced technical difficulty. I am very happy that I took his class.
Cut out most of calculus in the course which is good because I barely remembered anything from business calc. All the tests were pretty much conceptual questions and a few written portions which he pretty well explained before the test in the review sessions. Highly recommend him as your econ teacher!
Had this professor Spring of 2021, and don't believe the bad reviews. The people who complain about Lartey want professors to do all of the work for them. He gave us all of the necessary tools to pass and went in detail on what we needed to know for exams. He was always kind and genuine, and he made me enjoy economics.
Accent makes it hard to understand sometimes. Ask a question and get ridiculed by him for wasting time cause "He just went over it." Lectures are long. Final is cumulative, does not give out study guides. You learn more from others on Youtube than him. Overall 5/10 professor. Cuts the calc out, but his horrible explanations don't make up for it.
Quizzes and exams are alright if you read the textbooks carefully and learn on your own even he doesn't require textbooks. Lectures are confusing and unhelpful. I'd recommend skimming through the materials before you come to class because he goes through concepts without giving any context, making it hard to follow and understand what is going on.
Unlike other reviewer, I'm super happy there's no homework, as I'm working full time, and I do not need extra work each week. Professor Lartey really knows economy and explains subject really well, so if you going to the lectures it will be hard to fail his class. Lots of helpful material included on canvas. 3 exams & 3 quizzes & one 2-page paper.
he will not answer some questions if you didn't review or study before, he would tell you go back and review. his tests are the hardest like he see us as master program. people are shy or afraid to ask questions? so he just continue with his lecture and it's not good. all my other class I'm getting As. so i intentionally fail this class
Professor is a decent lecturer but refuses to correct quiz grades, when over 40% of the questions had incorrect answers. Ex. If the US dollar depreciates, then US goods are ____ expensive for Europeans as they have to spend ___ Euros to buy dollars. The correct answer according to the quiz was "more and more" when its obviously "less and less".
Professor Lartey is really good and take his time to explain things well. He allows open-book quizzes and is very fair. This is not an easy class so be ready to work for your grade. The class is straightforward if you follow his instructions carefully. He prepares you well for exams with specific information on the content. I recommend his class.
This class is based soley on quizzes and exams. No homework. Lectures are very fast and hard to understand. Very condescending when you ask a question. Hard grader.
Good class overall. Attendance is not required but necessary if you want to do well. The course was challenging but professor did well explaining the material. His review sessions are very good. Pay attention and take good notes. I learned a lot from his class and glad I took him.
Get ready to learn all material on your own in this course. This class has no homework, only test and quiz based. Lectures are read straight off slides and he goes through the material quickly and speaks quickly.
Test and quiz heavy. Expected to learn all material outside of class
Professor is very good in international economy and teaches subject really well. Do not skip class. Post lots of helpful material on canvas. 2 midterm exams, final exams, 3 quizzes which are open notes, and 2-page paper.
His class was challenging but he always highlighted what we needed to know. He gives an option for open-notes exams but you cannot get higher than C if you choose that, but you must still learn the material to pass. Professor did well to simply things as much as possible especially with the math. There are quizzes, online homework and exams.
Econ isn't an easy subject, but he tried to simplify it as much as he could. I don't think he was the best at explaining concepts. There are three 20 question quizzes that are open note, two midterms, and a final. You can choose to use notes for the midterms and final, but the max grade you can get is a C. Homework assignments due end of semester.
Challenging class but he does a good job to breakdown the concepts. He was helpful in office hours. Review sessions are really great for essay questions especially. Good professor.
One of the most challenging classes for me. He tried to make things simple. He explains things well and is available to help during office hours. The exams repeat some questions from quizzes. Pay attention and take good notes when he reviews for exams.
This was a challenging course for me. His quizzes are open book so try to take advantage of them. He did curved the grades which helped me to pass. Economics is difficult but he did well to explain things. Do not skip class and make sure you go to review sessions especially.
Professor is very good but strict. He was always available for office hours and that helped me a lot. He is very knowledgeable. He really explains well and takes time to write extensively on the board. Good class!
