Hes funny in a subject thats mad boring
Lazy, leaves early, little help. TA grades [horribly, and prof allows it].
He's hysterical and dresses like an uncoordinated golfer! But, he definetly makes the class a lot more fun than it could be...
Very fun professor, but knows his subject well. Available for help when needed. Expects material to be read before the lecture, so when you fall behind in your reading, lectures can be confusing, but he will help you catch up if you put forth effort
hard class
do not take this class, the teacher is unfair and hard
He is the devil!
do not take barron whatever u do, he is soo unfair
He is a really cool guy and is very easy to understand. The quizes are straight from the homework and the tests are simple problems to test a general knowledge. Do the homework and the class is a breeze.
Angry and willing to call students out when they are wrong, making for an extremely entertaining class. Just don't be the one who is wrong.
He is a great teacher. One of my favorites, and he really knows what he is talking about.
One of the last math profs you can blow off class with because he teaches straight out of the book. Test problems are straight out of the book. I only go on quiz and test days; the stupid mistakes me makes in lecture are too confusing(i.e.: 5/9 *.3=.017)!
very hard class. tests are straight from the hw. need to attend class or u won't make it. very tough teacher. if u can, STAY AWAY!!!!!!
Barron is great! The examples are interesting and if you go to class, read the book and do the assignments, you are a sure shot for passing, if not aceing the course.
Real tough!
Even though he's an angry man, He is probably one of the best teachers that I've had this year. His quizzes are directly from the hw and even though he makes mistakes on the board, he still gets the point across
I can't follow his lectures most of the time, and I love math/stats. I'd avoid him, unless you like studying out of the book.
Prof. Barron is a math ****! His class sucks, and is a huge waste of time. Says awesome **** all the time "Republicans have all the money", "You should all play roulette", etc. Quizes suck though, but worth taking.
Prof. Barron is a cool guy. His quizzes and exams are right from the book/homework...if you know that, you are set! A little hard to understand at times, but all in all the class isn't too bad.
I think he's a terrible teacher, particularly because his methods aren't helpful whatsoever. You get no personal attention and anything I've learned was straight out of the book. I would avoid him.
Whoever thought his class was hard is rediculous. Study the nite before and maintain a B average. One of the few teachers who makes me laugh out loud because he is so critical. Don't talk in class unless you're ready to be shut down.
he is a funny guy and very helpful. test are pretty good. good grader. seems like he really likes to teach! great guy
Math department's Asset. Excellent professor. I took Calc II and stats from him. Very helpful, clear, concise and hillarious. Great curves at the end of the semester. Lots of extra credit opportunity for those lagging behind. I would reccomend him GREATLY

He's the only man on earth who can make stats cool.
dont take him
i heart prof. barron. he is understanding about circumstances outside of class. his tests are ok. the fact that you dont have to go to class every time is helpful!
THE CLASS IS EASY UNLESS YOU ARE DUMB OR ARE TOO LAZY TO EVEN CRACK OPEN THE BOOK. IF YOU TRY EVEN A LITTLE HIS CLASS IS AN EASY A. HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MATH TEACHERS.
So ****in dumb if you hate math. He's a sucky teacher and the tests suck. I have a 3.7 avg. and I got a C in the class... my first C ever =0( Don't take him!
You have to be really dumb not to get an A in his class. He is one of the easiet math teachers I have ever taken.
He is a good teacher. He sometimes got mixed up in the numbers but overall he was good. Even though he doesn't require it-go to class.
Almost never went to class and still pulled off a B+.
Alright, now if this guywas teaching ramble on about types of things you can do with stats, that would be his forte. His quizes are just insane. Nothing we learn in class is based on them. All out of the book.who learns math by reading? Also has odd tw
I took this class hoping for the best... I ended up dropping. The professor intimidated me. He is kinda scary. He is better outside the classroom than he is in the classroom.
the work in this class piles up pretty fast. my grades have gone steadily downhill since the beginning of the year because if you zone for a few classes you're lost all of a sudden.
I hate this class with a passion. He's nice and explains things very well if you ask him too, otherwise he glides through, expecting everyone udnerstood him. If you're not good with math word problems, don't take the class. It's very easy to get lost.
Awful statistics teacher. enough said. do not take this class if you want a decent GPA.
Professor barron is an amazing teacher. All you have to do to succeed is to understand simple math concepts, do the homework, and go to class to get an A.
I hated this class... I am not a great person with math in the first place, and I feel like I'm leaving this class worse off than I was before.
Great PRof!!! Must take!!!
I ddin't understand the concepts but he is really flexible with office hours and helping with homework. Answers any questions. Do the homework for extra credit at midterm. Final is optional!
Barron may be fine for those of us who are mathematically inclined, but I'm certainly not, and he did nothing to help. He made me scared to ask questions in class, seriously. Yikes.
Nice guy, but was hard to follow during lectures. To do well, don't go to class, but teach yourself the material outside of class, and go in for the review and exams. Throws material from different chapters onto quizzes and tests, beware. Better than a typical math teacher though.
pretty simple stuff...just do the reading and problems...he gives LOTS of extra credit for homework and sometimes even attendance
Dr. Barrron is an asset for the Dept. of Mathematics! He relates to the students, understands their concerns and problems. Bery flexible. A porfessor of the highest stature yet the humblest!
He's the coolest! looooves to interact with everybody during class
I feel that to students who are mathematically-inclined he would be a fun professor. However, to someone who is definitely not a member of the field, I found him difficult to follow. He often assumes you are able to understand and apply concepts that are easy to him.
Great class, great prof. Not very politically correct, but great guy. Makes class fun and relates it to the real world. Highly recommend!
This class was very interesting. I thought it was hard, but everyone else in class seemed to think it was easy! I guess it just depends. anyway he's pretty funny and makes the class connect to the 'real world' with very interesting statistical examples ei whats the probability this man in 1972 that was sentenced to death was actually innoncent? etc

I didnt like the book choice. Class is unorganized (I never know what section we are on with out asking). Doesnt check homework though and grade just determined by tests and quizzes (plus maple labs). Does not teach with the most clarity, though he does take questions.
i had trouble with stats itself but he was a nice guy, pretty helpful but a little disorganized. he counted homework as extra credit which was helpful
Dr. Barron comes off as very intimidating at first, but once you get into the class you realize he is a good guy. Gave surprise extra credit points for Maple labs at the end of the semester. Good professor for Linear Algebra.
I was hoping for a good class, i needed it for my physics major, but I learned more from the book than from him! Nice guy, but HE made it harder to learn multi. A few times things he said in class made no sense, while the book was more or less crystal clear. I suggest you try to take it with someone else.
Dr. Barron was very reasonable, and willing to help students succeed. He just expected some effort in the class, and had to filter out the physic deadbeats. It can be a difficult class if you make it
Dr. Barron was very accomodating and reasonable. Only two tests, two quizzes, and finals. Gave extra credit, never collected homework. Willing to help us out. cool topic, enjoyed the course
Dr. Barron is hilarious and very caring. Class has it's difficult and smooth times. Just do the homework, understand what the concepts REALLY mean, and you'll do well.
Borron is a good professor. Really all you need to do is to do the homework and the rare maple. You should be fine in the class.
He tries to be funny but isn't he also is not very clear on what he wants you to do. If you ask him to show you how to do a problem 3 out 10 times he will not do the problem he asks you to do. He also assigns a lot of maple without telling you how to do it. It is a waste of time take 131
Good professor, truly knows his stuff. What he wants is for you to understand the concept so you can survive later. smooth class and an ease if you know what you're doing. If you don't, ask for help he's happy to help out. Tough grading standard since there's little or no extra credit.. so every points matter. Know what you're doing, you'll be fine
wow i thought this class was going to be a breeze at the beginning of the semester and now i'm just lost. i think maybe if you listen carefully all class you'll do ok...barron is really crazy and sometimes goes off on tangents that are completely irrelevant...drop 2 quizes, 2 big tests and final...seems to know exactly what hes doing, we dont
Had Barron for STATS. I don't think he gets enough credit for the quality of a teacher he is here. Had two tests and one final. Quiz every week. Only counts ten quizzes. No extra credit. Fair grader, enjoyable class. Not even a math person and I did well in the class. I would recommend with confidence!
Prof Barron is awesome. I dropped out of Calc 1st semester with an E. I'm getting an A- right now with Barron. He is a really nice guy and a good teacher. He doesn't assume you know everything about CALC like other teachers. NO HOMEWORK. Short quiz every week, 3 exams
Stats in general is not an easy topic, but the book is very good and Prof. Barron gives lots of time in class to answering questions. His tests don't have any surprises on them, so if you go to class, buy the book and read it, and get a graphing calculator and do the homework problems, you'll do well. (Isn't that true for most classes?)
Calc is is hard subject but he makes it seem like first grade math. Test are rather hard, no calculator allowed, but he curves, which is great. Class isn't mandatory but its best if you go. and do the homework, the only way to fully understand the subject is to practice it. Great prof but challenging class.
I had him for Calc 1, and he was a very straightforward teacher. The class was harder than it should have been, but Barron was good at teaching and explaining the material. The tests were hard, especially since you cannot use calculators. Homework is challenging, but a huge grade booster. If you are willing to work hard and learn, then take Barron.
Really nice guy and is always willing to help. Tests are not hard if you pay attention in class and do the homework.
This class was so hard! The textbook sucks and is hard to understand. It doesn't help at all. You get math homework online and only like 3-5 attempts. Prof. Barron was nice and all, he just didn't elaborate on things so it was very difficult to understand the material.
He is clear, fair and a genuine. I mean, statistics is going to be dry sometimes, but he makes it applicable to everyday realities. Take him, do the work and you will be gravy folks.
He is fun and energetic, was very thrilled to have him at first. Alot of the homework problems he doesn't go over, unless asked (so ask!) His expectations are high and he goes over long complicated proofs the entire class time, but aren't on quizzes or test. In terms of teachers, he is one of the best stats ones. just...alot of effort to ace.
The tests are HW based so if you do the HW then you're get A's on the test and quizzes. Very helpful and explains concepts nicely, but can sometimes go a bit fast!
If you want to learn, read the book like your life depends on it. He has you do homework for points but it's online, and he doesn't even know what it covers. Our first test was 50% things that we didn't cover in class and had 6 out of over 200 hw problems on. I'm disappointed in this teacher. I can't wait for this semester to end.
His tests are no based on homework. Homework is much easier then examples he works in class. He doesn't teach section by section. He jumps around, and expects you to follow. He often doesn't know what the homework even covers.
It's a super easy class if you do the homework because the quizzes and tests ask the same questions as the homework. He's also super helpful. Prior knowledge of calculus for help since he moves kind of fast.
Professor Barron is demanding, but one of the nicest, most approachable professors I've ever had. He MAKES you learn - a lot - and demands that you give your best to the class. His class has taught me more in one semester than most of my other classes combined.
In all honesty I have never had a better teacher in my life. I didn't care much about math before this class but he would walk in every day with a calm enthusiasm for what he is teaching and make sure everybody understood the material before moving on. Fair exams, very approachable and really cares about the students.
Dr. Barron is not always the easiest professor to follow. However, if you already have an okay understanding of calculus coming into the class he is great. He knows what he is doing and can be very helpful when you need his help. Must have a good understanding of the concept to do well on quizzes/tests.
This class is surprisingly easy--though I did have some knowledge about calculus before took it. Despite being nearly positive that I failed class given that I did little to none of the required homework and rarely showed up to class--I still passes, though I am fairly sure it's because professor Barron ended up passing everyone cause he's awesome.
The Best Math Teacher....Ever!!!! Dr.Barron is the reason why i switched to being a math major. He is a top authority in Game Theory and is a published author. Take Him!!!
He is a very smart and he knows what he is talking about. I am normally good at math and I was able to understand him easily. Homework is online and the tests can get hard but they are not bad. I would recomend if you are intrested in math because you will learn the material in his class.
Made calculus confusing for me when it wasn't before. Wouldn't recommend him at all.
I took him because the ratings made him look very nice. Barron is a nice teacher and is def very knowledgeable but the class was so HARD. I would not recommend him unless you are a math major or LOVE math. His tests are very hard and though he gives "partial credit" in quizzes its VERY minimal.
He's not very helpful as if you don't understand how he describes something he will simply repeat what he just said, not explaining further. The homework's not too bad if you keep up with it, but his tests will through you for a loop if you don't study your book. Lectures don't really give you the info you need.
Horrible teacher, lectures are useless, does not tell what to expects for exams. He is not approachable. his exams are multiple choice but on the final he threw some major ball. told us some thing to expect. everything was different, worst of all there were no multiple choice and he made the final more challenging than anything else we did.
Went to every class and thought I understood what he was teaching, but homework tests and quizzes were nothing like what he taught in class. Very nice man but very difficult class. Would not recommend.
Barron's course was one of the worst experiences I've had at Loyola. He knows the material but can't teach it. He displayed a lack of patience, and didn't explain concepts clearly. Several times, when no one knew the answer to a lecture question, he ended class early w/o explaining the solution. No calculator or crib sheet use on quizzes/exams.
Homework and quizzes nowhere near as difficult as tests. Nice guy if you talk to him one on one, but isn't very nice in class. 60-68% is a C- which is nice. He doesn't curve tests. Attendance is optional but if you don't go to class you're screwed.
He is a very nice teacher who genuinely wants to see his students do well, but because he is so smart, learning can be difficult to follow along. If you are mathematically inclined, then you should take him. The material isn't hard, but wording on tests and quizzes make it confusing. Again, very nice.
Very difficult and unorganized. He would lecture a chapter, and expect us to be a chapter ahead. Too blunt, and not very helpful at all.
I'm an English major, so Stats is the last thing I want to be doing at 8:30 AM. But, professor Barron is such a nice man that I would barely mind going to his class. I suck at math and I didn't think I was going to pass that class but I did. Also, Professor Barron consistently served looks in class.
Barron was an okay professor, it was hard for me to learn from his lectures as it was just a run down of the information, I had to teach myself the content pretty much. But hes a nice guy and is very understanding!
He is such a nice guy and very passionate. He is friendly, funny, and treats all his students nicely. His grading is very fair because for the homework you just have to get an 85% to get an A and you get multiple chances. The tests are reasonable as long as you study. Overall, I wouldn't call him "easy," but he is an outstanding teacher and person.
I took stats in high school and expected to be ready for this class. However, this class was pretty fast-paced, and he answered questions but it usually wasn't enough to help the class understand. There's an atmosphere of confusion in this class. If you can't take flawless notes, don't take Barron. But easy grader, extra credit if you show up a lot
He is overall a pretty nice guy. However, if you're not a math brained person, this class will be hard for you. He skips between writing on the board and a power point for lectures and is not organized. The tests are ridiculously hard for a 100 level class that is mostly soft science majors. The book is your best bet to pass this class
good things: homework due at the end of semester, attendance optional, a healthy curve, a sense of humor. bad things: it's stats, his lectures were sometimes difficult to follow. I really benefitted from a study group and other sources helping me learn. I feel like he could have been more straight forward but overall it turned out okay.
Dr Barron is a nice professor, but his classes are HARD. If you put in the work, you can really learn a lot, but its difficult to do so. Make sure you dont fall behind and ask if you have any questions, because hes very good at answering them. If you dont ask though theyll never get answered. Do the assigned book problems.
He's an awful professor. He's very smart but seems to forget that we're just students and don't have the same area of expertise. Your grade is determined by 3 exams(1 of 4 is dropped) and the final exam. The tests are nowhere near the same as the problems he goes over in class, and he simply speeds through the important parts of lessons.
Great professor! He is super smart and funny. The class is tough if you are not math minded. Graded on 4 exams ( lowest exam grade is dropped ) + final . Use the old exams as a study guide. Do lots of practice problem. If you show up to class and work hard you should be fine. Don't skip lecture!!!
Very frustrated with Barron. When classes had to transition online, he chose to stop lecturing, sending us another professor's YouTube videos instead, increased the amount (and difficulty) of weekly quizzes, and when students asked for clarification, responded with sarcasm and no help. Really sends the impression that he just doesn't care
The class is graded on quizzes and exams. His tests are all free response and he gives absolutely no partial credit so it is very hard to get a good grade. In class, he talks down to you. Even worse, with the transition online, he decided to STOP teaching and told us to watch YouTube videos. My money was wasted on his salary. Extremely upsetting!
Horrible! Adjusted to COVID online learning in the worst way possible without even asking for feedback from students. Literally just sent us Youtube Lectures to watch based on an entirely different textbook. Even during in-class learning, never created a learning environment where students would be comfortable in voicing their questions.
Simply awful. Just sent YouTube lectures when it was time for online learning. Just told us to expect a generous curve at the ending when he saw students were not learning. When students complained, showed no willingness to make any changes. Even in person, shows no care or regard for teaching and students. Avoid!
The transition to online was horrible. Tests and quizzes were really difficult and he did not make the effort to teach. He posted YouTube lectures from another professor. Not to mention that these lectures altogether took up more time than we normally spent in class. Instead of holding office hours, he held an open chat room in Sakai. It went bad.
He's a very nice man, but this class was extremely difficult for me. Homework questions were quite different from the tests. This will most likely be the lowest grade of my academic career. He's kind and attentive to email, and I appreciate that we could do the whole class asynchronously. But if you have never been particularly good at math, skip.
The class grade is made up of 5, 20 point quizzes, and three tests worth 100 points each. Total of 400 points.
I got through the class almost only through self teaching. Do the homework problems, there's a chance it may show up on a quiz/test. The quizzes were alright and the tests were far tougher. The final was terribly difficult and unexpected. It was the worst I ever did in a math class, but there is a decent curve near the end.
Dr. Barron is the part of the reason I decided to pursue a graduate degree in statistics. The mathematical maturity instilled in his STAT 203 and 304 courses will ensure you are prepared for the statistical techniques that actually use this math. Anyone who says the class is "too hard," if you work hard and show up, Barron will not fail you.
I'm sorry but I don't understand why some people rate him so low! This man is really sweet and kind, he makes his grading very clear(5 quizzes for credit and 3 exams), optional homework, uploads slides, and lecture recordings. I had a bit of prior familiarity with some of the material but as long as you listen and attempt the homework you'll pass!
