Professor Dakin is enjoyable to work with and a helpful professor. I looked forward to class, and I hope to be able to work with him again. He is knowledgeable and an overall excellent professor.
Professor Dakin is generous with his students. If ever we needed some extra help over email, he was quick to respond with a good deal of detail. He really wants his students to learn and uses stories from ancient history to make our Latin class even more interesting.
One of best professors I've ever taken, always hilarious and amazing lectures. I wish I knew about him before the end of my time at TCNJ, he's wonderful!
++ Mr. Dakin is probably one of the best professors I have taken. He is hilarious, enthusiastic, and extremely helpful. He rarely surprises us on tests and clearly states just about everything that will be on them during lectures. He is also quick to respond to emails. Overall, he is by far the top choice for Classical Mythology at TCNJ.
An exceptional professor who genuinely cares about his students. Extremely knowledgable in many subjects and very open to whatever one has to say. His personality and humor make the class very enjoyable and the class flies by. A good amount of note taking will be just from his oral presentation, but he is very easy to follow and has a great accent!
Mr. Dakin is probably one of the best professors I have taken. He is hilarious, enthusiastic, and helpful. He'll never surprise you on tests. He will also respond to your emails quickly and is almost always available to help you. Overall, he is by far the best choice for Classical Mythology. +++
Awesome class, the only tests are really the midterm and the final (plus a final paper). The textbook is really hard to read but you can always ask him questions in class or via email and he explains things really well. As long as you put in a reasonable amount of work you should get an A, he prepares you for tests really well. Super cool guy.
Dakin's vast knowledge of classical mythology is supplemented by his superior understanding of Greco-Roman culture. The textbook is dense and the required reading is heavy, but so long as you do it you'll pass with a good grade. He grades with two exams (midterm and final; 25% each), one term paper (25%), and participationpop quizzes (25%).
Professor Dakin actually took over our class after, Dr. Gruen was unable to teach anymore. There were only 3 weeks left. This feedback is only for those 3 weeks. He gave a final review sheet for the final exam. The final exam was pretty much everything that was on there. Very fair professor and was very quick to respond to emails.
Very passionate about work and makes interesting with characterization of characters from books.
Great professor and funny, makes the material interesting. Fair grader and gives a good study guide about what's on the exams. Just pay attention and know everything on the guide and you'll be fine.
Awesome guy who is precise with what he wants you to know. Makes the class interesting as long as you can keep up with notes
Funny guy. Says he'll give you a good grade if you participate in class. Good lecturer. Assignments are straight forward. Exams are easy if you go to class and take notes. Says what will be on the exams.
Great and lively professor, very enthusiastic about the subject. Grades pretty easily and is always available to give extra help if needed. Cares about his students and tries to help their grade if they do not do well on a test or paper. Highly recommend him.
Very funny guy, really good professor, keeps lectures interesting. Very specific with what he wants you to know.
He's a really interesting professor who made the lectures very easy to listen to. For this kind of subject, it can get very boring, but his sense of humor made everything better. He's definitely a fair grader and gives you a heads up about what will be on the final exam. I would take him again!
Prof. Dakin took over for our professor the last 3 weeks of the semester. He is straight forward, you must go to class and take notes. He makes jokes so it was not too bad. He uses PowerPoint's which is good so that you know what to focus on. Lastly, he has an accent & is very attractive so it isn't the worst hours of the day!
The guy is solid professor. There is going to be work but it is meant more to make you think and expand rather than drab storytelling and the work is not difficult. He puts a modern twist into the classics making them more relatable and easier to talk about. He also expects lots of class participation and discussion
Great professor. Helped me out a lot last semester with office hours. He really cares about how well we do. He was thorough and very clear with what he wanted. Great professor! Love his accent! Attendance is mandatory!
He's a really sweet, fun guy, and he had interesting lectures. He did his best to be available for students and was extremely helpful in clarifying what he wanted for the one 5-6 pg. essay we had to do. Tests were easy and reflected what was covered in class/in the textbook. If I still attended TCNJ, I would absolutely take him again.
Professor Dakin was wonderful. He was always lighthearted and lined most of his lectures with a bit of hilarity to ease from the length of them. It's incredibly obvious how much passion for and knowledge of greek mythology he has. If you take his class for credit and not for required courses, you won't regret it. He made the class fun and enjoyable
Professor Dakin is an amazing professor. I always looked forward going to his class because it was full of humor & knowledge. His tests are not made to trick you instead they are clear & right to the point. Readings could be lengthy but he reviews them in class and makes them clearer. He is always available to help you & responds to emails quick.
Professor Dakin is a very nice guy and makes the class very interesting. There is a lot of reading. The tests involve a lot of memorization but there are only two, the midterm and final. There is a heavy workload at the end of the semester, a project due the last week and a 7 page paper due the day of the final exam. P.S. he has an English accent.
His lectures are great. It is always great to get out of my 8 am statistics class and go straight to his lecture. He is very interesting. Midterm and final but he literally gives you the whole test in the review. The art project and paper are due at the end of the semester but you can do it whenever you want and he will check it. Would take again!
Tough subject to cover but he made it easy to understand. Some of the lectures were a bit long but his added humor made it worth listening to. Takes participation and attendance highly into consideration in regards to your final grade. There are only two exams (midterm & final) and then a project and a 7-page research paper. Pretty easy A.
Lots of reading, but lectures are fantastic and he explains everything really well. He shows a lot of enthusiasm for the subject and makes it really interesting. Only a midterm and a final, but there's a great review before so there are no surprises. He gives loads of feedback for papers and the art project, if you put the work in you'll do well.
I would definitely recommend taking this course. He's a very good teacher and makes the classroom fun and engaging. He's very funny and it doesn't even feel like a class. No tests. Only the midterm, final and two projects. Very easy.
It's easy to see how passionate he is about his subject, and that he genuinely wants to share this with his students. He is very approachable and always willing to help. Made for a highly enjoyable semester, and I wish I could take another class with him!
The class was conducted a bit different from what I imagined it would be like, nonetheless Professor Dakin is a good guy and requires you to know the material. As soon as he senses that you understand the material you will do well in the class.
If you're looking for an easy A, or you're interested in the subject, take him. I skipped half his lectures and just read the book, and I was fine. When I did come to lecture, they were interesting. If you stay after class, he'll give feedback on papers that's actually useful. On halloween we got to dress up for extra credit. He's a cool guy
Somehow does a better job in getting us to understand the material than the textbook. Good feedback and interesting assignments.
Professor Dakin is a very passionate teacher and really wants you to understand the material. If you go to the lectures and read the assignments you will have no problem getting an A in this class. Also, probably the funniest teacher I've ever had.
Professor Emyr Dakin was by far the best professor I have ever had at the College of New Jersey. Unlike many professors he incorporates humor into his lectures and often has the entire class literally cracking up. He learns nearly everyone's names and will stop to say hi if he sees you outside of class, for he genuinely cares about his students.
Very enthusiastic about content. Fun and interesting class!
Fair professor, interesting concept. Do the readings and you'll be fine, when it comes to the assignments, if you come to him and ask him for feedback, he'll tell you how to fix it for an A. Would highly recommend, super funny, really chill
Always knows how to lift up the class with a joke or a quick story. Gives good feedback and makes sure you put in the work with heavy participation grade. Understanding and helpful when things are confusing. Overall great professor and person as a whole.
His lectures really aren't something you'll soon forget. He makes the stories of greek mythology easy to remember by putting them in language that is relatable and easy to understand. Only a few assignments given and the textbook is fairly easy to read. Responds to emails very quickly which is always a plus.
Loves his job and what he is teaching, absolutely hilarious. Without a doubt the most entertaining professor I will ever have.
If people don't read/participate in class, he will give a pop quiz. Gives two options for papers- either 2 movie reviews or 1 term paper due last day of class. Gives a midterm and final but has a thorough review the class before it. Also has you do a simple art project. If you hand in the paper or project early he will give you feedback. So funny!
He knows a lot about the information that we go over in class and he is more than willing to help/answer your questions when you email him or go up to him.
Best professor I've had so far. Definitely take his class. You will remember everything you learn.
I loved Professor Dakin! He is so nice and passionate about what he teaches! You do have to review for the mid-term and final, but he reviews almost all of the content on the tests the class before. What you put into the class is what you will get out of it. Would definitely take again.
Fair teacher, willing to help and work with you, hard subject. If you put in the work he will consider that in your grade.
Professor Dakin understands the rigors of collegiate coursework whilst also acknowledging the need for the proficiency of his students in their topic. Thus, while there are daily quizzes, they are created with the intent to help pace students and save us stress down the road. He knows how to crack a joke! Take his class, you will enjoy it!
Emyr is a real solid professor, he was up front with the class at the beginning of the semester. He told us that if we wanted to do well, we needed to do the work and if we did, he would help us out if we had an off day. He stayed true to his word all semester. He's funny, kind, and respectable. I would definitely recommend him.
Awesome lectures just make sure you take notes.
E is a great professor, he does lecture each class but he makes the information fun and engaging. You can always interrupt him and ask him questions. Depending on what class you take of his depends on the difficulty. show up to class 10 minutes early and talk with him, he will know your name and be more invested in your grade
Professor Dakin is fantastic, would recommend any of his classes! His teaching style is entertaining and easy to follow, he communicates information really well and he's a great resource if you need help with any assignments or understanding material. Take notes and talk with him, especially when it comes to the paper, his feedback is valuable.
As someone who does not have a passion for classical myth Professor Dakin really made this topic interesting and fun. He keeps the class engaged with his humor and impersonations, even while reading some dry texts. I never had a problem showing up to class because I knew it would engaging, would definitely take his class again.
Great professor who really knows his stuff. Any questions you have (within reason) he happily answers or will look it up and get back to you. He takes his papers seriously but will help the student every step of the way. Study for the tests and youll Be fine.
Emyr is great. He is always willing to work with you to get you an A if you put in the work. Besides that he is hilarious in class, I Nearly always leave lecture in a better mood than before. He's a bit British but don't hold that against him, he's not afraid to banter back and forth with students. I would strongly advise anyone to take his class.
I have taken Emyr for the past three semesters. He is my all time favorite professor. He does not want any of his students to fail his classes. So if needed, he will spend the extra time to work with you to make sure you get that A. His classes are always fun and full of personality. If I was able to take his class again, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Great professor, super funny, and entertaining. Hes very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and makes a lot of effort to ensure that his students succeed (like reviewing drafts and providing feedback in advance). Grades are mostly made up of a presentation, paper, midterm and final. Would definitely take him again and highly recommend.
Honestly my favorite class so far at TCNJ, he makes the topic interesting, is genuinely funny, and is not afraid to blatantly make fun of someone when they're in the wrong, I.E, late to class more than once. Overall, the workload is a decent amount of reading from the text, pop quizzes happen so make sure to read, an art presentation and two tests.
Professor Dakin is very funny and cares about his students and their success. If you take his first class of the day, go earlier to just talk to him. It helps a lot for grading because he knows who you are and might go a little easier on you. Only complaint is that the paper has to be exactly 7 pages on the dot, which isn't easy to do. Fun class!
Emyr is the man! Great professor and even greater human. He is truly passionate about the subject matter and makes it so fun to learn. His tests aren't easy, but as he says 100 times, he gives you the exact information that will be on it, all you have to do is study.
Dr. Dakin is a great professor who is truly passionate about the course material. He offers a fresh modern perspective on ancient material that truly emphasizes the importance of learning about the material in todays society. Moreover, he is very fair with his exams.
There's only a midterm and a final both of which will be easy if you go to class. Lectures are entertaing, Emyr always makes them funny and comical. He tells you whats on the exam. Hardest part of the class is the research paper. But you have the entire semester to do it and he'll read it if you email him early and basically tell you how to fix it
Professor Dakin is a very nice guy and cares about the subjects he teaches and for his students. The class was only two exams, a presentation, and a paper. He is very easy going, tells you things that are on the test and is also willing to meet with you whenever you'd like. Class was mostly lectures and he takes attendance but would take again!
Prof. Dakin is a prime example of what prof. should strive to be like. He is very caring for his students as he wants them to perform their best. He does a great job of presenting the test material in his lectures in a humorous manner. He does a great job of adding interest to the topic, even if not interested.
Professor has great enthusiasm for his subject matters.
Professor Dakin is one of the best professors I've had at TCNJ yet! Yes, his class is a lot of reading and note taking during the lectures, but as long as you do that you'll pass easily. He made the subject he's very enthusiastic about interesting by having well planned lectures. Overall, would take again without a doubt!
Professor Dakin is truly one of the best professors I have had thus far in my college career. I originally took CLS250 for a liberal learning credit, but I truly did not expect to learn so many topics that relate to my other classes. Professor was also enthusiastic for every lecture and available for help in person and/or through email.
Awesome and knowledgeable professor who makes class interesting and cares about the well being of his students. Very interesting lectures, gives great feedback before and after turning in assignments, and is a fair grader. Highly recommended!
Dr. Dakin is an exceptional professor who always kept class interesting. As someone who is not a morning person, I always looked forward to going to his lectures at 9:30am.
I was placed into Professor Dakin's Greek Mythology class by chance in my freshman Fall and I am glad that it happened. He is very passionate about the subject matter and genuinely cares about his students. He is a extremely funny person and is eager to help outside of class. Start brainstorming final paper ideas at the beginning of the semester.
I came into LAT201 as a first semester freshman, worried that the course would be too hard but Emyr is an amazing professor. He is super friendly and made sure that I felt comfortable with the work. I'm taking him next semester for CLS170 as well (I'm a math major but I need this stuff for liberal learning). I definitely recommend taking his class.
My favorite professor I've ever had at TCNJ. He truly cares about his students and their grades. Very easy going and well structured class even though it was online. Straight forward assignments and lectures.
Dakin is a really great person! His class is graded by a midterm, a final, an art project (where you just research a piece of art and send him the presentation), and a research paper. For someone who's not a great test taker, I was a little nervous, but his exams are straight from the powerpoints. Lectures can get boring, but he can be funny!
This professor takes time to create excellent powerpoints that are extremely useful to study for the exams. He gives excellent feedback for your projects and papers and urges you to send it to him for review. He wants to see you understand the material and do well in the class. This professor has a contagious personality and enthusiasm for class.
This guys the best!! Very few grades and I was sad ares, but he basically gives you the answers to the midterm the class before. Lectures can be long but hes really funny. Gives great feedback for projects and overall and easy class if you put any effort in. I wish he taught more subjects in my major!
Professor Dakin is someone who helped fuel my love for history all over again. He's extremely knowledgable and passionate about what he does. Along with that, he's extremely accessible outside of class. Whenever I had an issue, he'd answer very quick and was always willing to compromise. I thoroughly enjoyed having him as a professor!
Great guy, covers material at a fair rate. His tests could be a little tricky but they're far from the hardest I've ever taken. Very welcoming environment.
I took this class to complete credits and I would never take this class ever again. If you are into history and that's you're thing by all means take it but if you are not do not take this class. The study guides for midterms and finals are extremely long. Super nice and funny just not the class I would take again.
Professor Dakin is amazing! I took him for Sports and Spectacles in the Greek and Roman World, the lectures were easy to understand and he makes jokes along the way. I would defiantly take him again!
He gives reading but we never discuss it so you really don't have to do it. Just beware of the midterm and final exams because even though he does a review he won't cover everything! it's not enough to just rely on the review
He is so accommodating and very helpful. Always answers emails in a timely manner and available outside of class. One of my nicest professors!!
Best professor I've encountered so far! this class had very few assignments but were doable if you started them on time. The first half of the semester was so interesting but towards the end I kind of lost interest. He is very nice and funny though. He makes review sheets for the exam and if you pay attention to those you will be fine!
Professor Dakin was excellent and extremely helpful and gave excellent feedback. Fantastic lecturer and I would rake another course with him.-10/10 recommend
Dr. Dakin was a great professor- he was very passionate about what he was teaching and was good at responding to emails. He made the topic interesting even at 930am! The class was lecture-heavy and the midterm and final required a lot of memorization. Would take again!
Great guy- caring and helpful. All you need to do to pass the class is attend it and pay attention to what he says in the lecture- he'll point out clearly what you need to know on the exams. There are only a couple of assignments throughout the semester- pretty easy and can be done in an hour (besides the final paper). Attendance is key.
A lot of material that he goes pretty in-depth with, you will need to take thorough notes in order to be able to cover everything for the midterm and final
Dr. Dakin is a phenomenal professor in my opinion. I do not like history all that much, but this class is relatively easy. Sure, his lectures may be long at times but honestly its really not that bad and he tells you everything you need to know for the midterm and final. Not much work either, I would take his class, even if you dont like history.
He was seriously one of the best professors I've had at TCNJ. He's very funny, his lectures are extremely interesting and he's a fantastic story teller. He's very clear about his expectations, and more than willing to work with you if you needed any clarifications. I genuinely looked forward to this class every single day and loved our topics
Great professor! He is super knowledgeable and passionate about the topics he teaches. He usually just lectures the entire class and extends on what the textbook readings included. He genuinely cares about helping and is a lenient grader as well. As long as you pay attention and attend class you will do great!
Overall he's a chill and funny professor His class is lecture-heavy. Don't rely only on the slides - he doesn't give them out nor do they have much info. Non-tough grader, few assignments that are very easy with a paper at the end + study guide for tests. Too bad Greek mythology is no longer available - if it was I would recommend that class.
Professor Dakin is a great dude. He is super funny, super interested in the topic he's talking about, and is just generally super helpful. If you need help, just email him and you'll have a response back very quickly. You must go to class as attendance is graded. Overall, a 10/10 professor who I'd love to take again
This is my 2nd time taking this professor, because he's that amazing. The exams are a bit tough, very detail oriented, but he hands out a study guide that is litterly the exact exam so study that well and pay attention to his lectures. He's very kind to all students and extremely helpful in office hours. He genuinely cares about everyone doing good
One of the most fun professors I have ever had. His lectures are enticing, and they are very entertaining. Clearly passionate about the topics he teaches, and it shows. He also has a great sense of humor. Need to memorize a lot, but if you just study, you'll be fine.
Prof Dakin is amazing. Amazing class. He is lecture oriented but has a sense of humor. He truly cares about students succeeding in class- accessible outside class. Graded on a few things: midterm, one powerpoint assignment and a final. Gives a study sheet for the tests. Go to class and take down all of the notes. Easy A!!
Dakin is genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had at TCNJ. The only knock on this class was that it was only 2 exams and 2 projects, but he provides study guides that are basically the exams to a tee, and the grading on the projects is very lenient! Class is lecture heavy but you can tell he's very passionate about what he teaches.
Dr Dakin's the best. I was his only student for 201 this fall, & he worked with me to plan the year based on my skill level & the stuff he knew would be good for us to do. He's a very lenient guy, esp. if he sees you trying. The biggest thing is: take an interest in the class. It'll make it easier, & he'll consider it when grading. 100% recommend!
