Very knowledgable, but needs to work on teaching skills. Has no notes or lesson plan and rarely brings a book. Makes tests so you cannot get a 100. No calc tables. Changes mind on policies. Helpful only if you go to Math Lab.

Very helpful. First thing he does is ask for questions on the homework. Most test questions are based off the lecture or homework. His lessons are very clear to understand and he'll gladly try to explain anything more clearly if you don't understand.

I took this class in the summer time and it moved really fast but he did a great job .As long as you do the homework and ask questions then you will do fine. His study guides are JUST like the tests. Nice guy pretty understanding. AAnd he does say No Calculators but he does not give you anything you need a calculator for. TAKE HIM!!!!

A really good teacher who explains very simply and effectively. I had been out of school for a long time when I started back. This was a refresher course so I was a bit rusty, but prof. Bentley taught very well and I learned a great deal more than the first time around. I will take him again if he still teaches MTH 277.

Mr. Bentley is on my list of top five favorite teachers (I have 100+ credits). I've always liked math, but Diff Eq is tough...however, he does a great job at explaining the material. He's always available and willing to answer questions, and he's a nice guy, too. I would recommend him for any level math class.

I had him for college algebra. He was a great teacher. I never did the homework and normally passed his tests. He does ask for alot of homework normally 50-60 problems every night. But other than that, he really explains the problems, and its understandable. Recommened!

He is a really good teacher! Make sure you do the hw and attend class so you don't fall behind. He gives you a sample test & review, make sure to do it and study them. Tests come right from the sample tests & homework. He reviews before tests. Very straight forward & helpful! I would take him for any math class in the future!

I took him for Math 4 last semester. He is an amazing math teacher and one i would take again. He explains things with clarity and will always answer your questions and problems with sincerity. I had so much issues with math before i took his class. He helped me actually understand how to do the problems.

I didnt like this class the only grades are tests and there is only 5 of them the whole semester and you have to keep above an 80 so if you dont do well on two you re already down.

Great teacher. Short and to the point, but will go over everything that will be on tests. Every problem on test comes from textbook, and has a review day before every test. Would definitely recommend him and take him again. Very relaxed laid back teacher that knows what he is talking about and in my experience will help you out.

Real good teacher ! he didn't allow us to use calculators on the test but it helped me because i used calculators all my life & it made me understand math better ( i'm not a smarty pants either ) . he is real funny and nice , always helpful and explains things in different ways . he also teaches at ODU . sample tests are the same as the actual test

super easy class. he is very helpful & will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material. no calculators but its pretty simple. sample test=extra credit. attendance recommended but not mandatory. sort of dont need the book. What the other students said is true. He gives you what will be on the tests in the notes and the sample test, and he is a generous grader. If you do the online homework and study, you'll breeze through the class.

The most influential teacher I have ever had. I took his class a few years ago and came from failing math class, not understanding anything math, & seriously hating the subject, to passing with an A+, understanding the subject, & actually being able to help classmates to understand. The subject itself is hard, but Mr. Bentley was so helpful! He showed every single example you need to know. He always teaches what is on the test. He gives out a sample test and gives you extra credit if you turn it in on test day. The final exam replaces your worst test grade. I wound up getting an A. Do your homework! It will help so much.

I took him last semester and he made Calculus seem like it was a piece of cake! Unfortunately, he is not teaching MTH 174 this semester, but he still helps me with MTH 174. He doesn't curve grades (I like that), he gives extra credit, he grades fair on the tests, he goes over everything you need to know, and he is so helpful! YOU MUST TAKE HIM!!!

Extremely intelligent - born to be a Math teacher. He's ridiculously funny and dry with his humor. His final exam is ripped mostly from the mid-term which is gives back to you. He has the easiest, simplest techniques to Math I've ever seen. How this guy is stuck at Community College-teaching level is beyond me. Incredible professor

Mr. Bentley is absolutely amazing! I'm a Social Science major and never enjoyed Math; I even went to regular tutoring for Math in high school. But Mr. Bentley breaks down the problems so that they are easily understandable. With his lectures alone, I got a 99% in his class.

He took all the "scariness" out of vector calculus and broke concepts down in an easy to digest, easy to use manner. Bentley is the best math professor I've ever had, and I've been to a few highly regarded universities. I can't recommend this guy enough.

Great teacher, great class. With Mr. Bentley you don't need the web access, and you can still use the 9th edition calculus book that will also work for vector calc. He breaks down the material so it doesn't seem hard. He never rushes but we finish early. If I had the chance, I'd take him for every math. He's the best! Oh, but know your trig ident.

Mr. Bentley is a great professor! However, his class is a lot harder than this website depicts. DO THE SAMPLE TESTS AND KNOW HOW TO FULLY DO EACH PROBLEM. It will greatly increase your grade. I had to work extremely hard for a B but that's expected for Calc 3

I took Bentley for Mth 152, and he is definitely the best math teacher there. I received an A in the class, but it takes a lot of hard studying. I liked him a lot! Doesn't care if you show up to class (but no make up tests) and is pretty relaxed over all. Pretty funny guy. He's awesome! He prepares you well for every test. The practice tests count as extra credit and he also offers an extra credit question at the end of every test. There's no reason to not get an A++++ in this class. He explains everything really well. I wish he taught stat as well. He does take attendance but he's not super strict about it

One of my favorite professors! I could not even begin to count all the times he made me bust out laughing during class. He is funny, clear, and knows his stuff! Of course, math is math, so the assignments will still be challenging at times, but Professor Bentley will definitely make the whole class experience enjoyable and you will learn a lot!

Mr. Bentley is a great teacher. I am horrible when it comes to math and he made it so clear and easy. He gives a lot of homework but in the end it helps you. Do the sample tests they are very similar to the tests. If you are not good in math like I am take him.

He also teaches at the Higher Education Center for ODU and he was the best math teacher I had. Unlike most math teachers I've had, his lectures weren't "death by powerpoint" because he thinks of examples for the lesson(s) on the spot. Make sure to do the sample tests he gives out because some of them will be on the test.

He's really cool, doesn't give you a lot of work, explains the material well. Not a tough grader, he's just looking to make sure you know the information on tests. Very fair and just wants you to pass. Plus he's kinda funny, throws out little jokes, it's cute

Loved this professor! He was always clear and gave a lot of good examples. No homework was graded however I suggest that you at least look at it to keep up with the class. Provided practice tests for extra credit and if you put the work in, you saw good results. Professor had a pleasant, laid back attitude which made class much easier.

He's a good professor. He doesn't use My Math Lab but he'll give you a course code for it if you ask. He assigns sections of homework from the textbook but doesn't grade your work so you can focus on your weak points and move on. You need to be determined to practice because it's easy to slack but the homework can help you catch back up.

If you miss class you will be lost on everything from that lecture. Take notes so you can go back during homework. Homework assigned but graded. Very clear on what he expects you to know. I don't like math, I need someone who knows their subject, he definitely does. If you take the notes and do your homework, it's an easy class. Whenever I had questions he was more than willing to help me, if I still struggled he would explain it more until I understood. He's funny too, so that's a plus. Does not check hw, mostly bc he will see thru the exam who put in the time. Exams are usually 25 questions. Will post review a week before exam date with answers (but not the work). I took Liberal Arts Math with Mr. Bentley, so it obviously wasnt a hard class to begin with, but he made it all the more easy. Hes very good at explaining math concepts and equations. He gives a sample test before each test that you can do for 3 points of extra credit. The sample tests are essentially the tests themselves. Super easy class

He's the best math teacher I've ever had. I highly appreciate his lectures and respect him for trying to help us understand a lot of misinformation HS math has taught us. As much as I enjoy his lectures, his tests are just crippling to me (but that's because I'm horrible at math). I may or may not pass depending on my final, but I still recommend.

Homework is not mandatory so all you are graded on are the tests, but you should do the homework anyway becuase he takes his questions straight from the book and test reviews. Never a boring lecture. I like Professor Bentley. He tells you exactly what to expect. Just do homework and go through sample test before the actual test and you'll be fine. The attendance policy is not that strict, but it's in your own interest to attend classes. Some parts of the textbook may be confusing, but he clears it up.

Great teacher! Take lots of notes! Homework is not graded, they're for practice, but do them anyway it helps. He gives sample tests that are like the real tests. Your grade is based on 5 tests and a final. Final is cumulative. No calculators allowed for most subjects. I struggle with math but Professor Bentley made it possible. You will pass!

After being away from school for so many years and math being the fear factor for returning to school, I thank God that he was my professor that started me on road back to math. GREAT TEACHING METHOD!! I've had other teachers for the math classes I needed after his, although I passed the classes, I cannot wait to have him for precal!!

Show up, learn the lesson for the day, leave. there's always a 1on1 chance at the end of class (as time usually permits) if u need a clearer understanding. his lessons are great so show up to stay on track. Your grade made up of only 3/4 exams with some extra credit options, you can get an A if you study

Such an easy going professor. Gives homework every night but it is only for you to practice. Graded homework is all due the day before each chapter test. Theres always time for questions and he makes sure you really understand the material. Sample tests count for extra credit.

Fantastic. Grade is based on test grades only. Final replaces lowest test grade. Gives homework but does not grade it. Gives sample tests given for a little extra credit. Will always break down any question to the simplest form if needed. Tough class but he will give you all the tools to succeed. "You're in college. Buy a stapler."

Prof. Bentley makes everything is easy to understand. He gives 4-5 tests and the final is split for 2 parts. A sample test is given a week before an actual test, and they are very very similar. Everything he teaches in 161/162 you'll need in Calc1! So make notes if you are planning take calculus. My notes from his classes helped me a lot in MTH264

Mr. Bentley is a great professor in person. Online not so much. He posted the videos that we needed for notes and stuff, but in the videos he'd skip steps and sometimes wouldn't finish a problem. He didn't use the textbook much, but took some problems for the tests straight from those problems. He gave us 5 assignments and never assigned homework.

I did not like this class at all. He clearly knows his stuff when it comes to math, but taking him online sucked. Your entire grade relies on 4 tests. The homework is definitely helpful, but there's a decent amount of it. Take notes, do the practice tests.

Need the textbook code to access the assigned homework. Four tests, one every month almost, two part final. Check in online, stay if you have questions or want to watch others work out theirs. Videos posted for each section, appropriate amount of homework and lots of recommended homework. Sample tests you can do for a little extra credit.

The ONLY professor i have singed up for FOUR times for in college. very sarcastic and to the point but he challenges his students in a way that makes them want to be better. He is difficult but worth it.

the flipped classroom made me cry during the first week of class and i was about to drop it but coming from a shy person i stopped caring about asking too many questions in class and i passed every test with 95+. really focus on doing the practice tests and you will pass.

I took him for MDE60, after being out of HS for 10 years... he made it easy for me to be ready for precalculus in one semester. His YouTube lectures are thorough and straightforward. He's good at explaining the basics so that the more difficult problems are easy to understand. Take notes, ask questions, and do the homework/sample tests.

He seems intimidating at first but he is honestly super nice and super funny when you give him the chance to be. He's very helpful when it comes to things you don't understand. He does extra credit and you can work with him or with the students in your class to get it done. Normally I go in and just talk to him or we watch videos. BEST teacher.

Great professor all his lessons were online. If you are a slow learner Take this man class the lessons are all ONLINE AND CAN BE SLOWED DOWN TO BE UNDERSTOOD BETTER . Attendance matters no more than 5 missed classes and have time getting a great passing GRADE

The best math professor you can ever have. He has a flipped classroom which is extremely beneficial. You must be willing to watch the videos on your own time and ask him questions during class.

Bentley is a wonderful professor but beware as his classes are not for everyone as he runs a flipped classroom which means teaching yourself the material via recorded lectures and ask for HW help during lecture. If you procrastinate a lot he might not be for you. But I found his lectures very good and a huge time saver giving me more time to do HW.

Very straightforward class. Mr. Bentley does a good job of making math class "down to earth." He runs a "flipped classroom," where we do homework in class, and watch prerecorded lectures at home (from his Youtube channel, through Canvas). Watch the lectures, do the exercises, ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS, and you'll do great. Loved Mr. Bentley.
