Explains the material very well and uses all sorts of models to demonstrate various structures. She has fill in the blank lecture notes, but also posts a more detailed version online that you could read instead and you would still get the same info. Exams are reasonable, doesn't try to trick you, and she does lots of examples to help you prepare
Lecture notes are easy to understand and everything that was on the exam was directly from the lecture notes. Obviously there's a lot of content to memorize but Enoka Wijekoon basically tells you everything you need to study. Best Prof Ever!
Dr. Wijekoon is a wonderful lady. Very sweet and funny, and I really enjoyed having her as my prof for Biochem. Her notes are fantastic, and she provides notes in different formats in case you need more detail on certain concepts. She does have an accent, but you get used to it quickly and it is not difficult to understand. Memory heavy though.
Very good professor. This course would be a lot more difficult if it wasn't organized so well and if she wasn't a great teacher. When you look back, you will be amazed at how much you learned. Some profs are great because their course is easy, but she is great and teaches you a lot too!
I loved Wijekoon! Her lecture notes are very clear, as are her lectures. If she's talking about an important concept she repeats it several times so you get a good understanding of it. Midterm and final were extremely fair, and the labs are easy to get 90's on. Overall, loved this class, plus she's a veterinarian so that's super cool.
Dr. Wijekoon has been my favourite prof so far at U of Guelph. She prepares you well for the exams, so pay attention when she gives sample questions in lectures! Her lectures are never boring and she cares about the students. Stick around after class if you have any questions and she will always make sure you understand the concepts!
Great lectures, very interesting and funny. Course is naturally heavy in material but is taught very well.
Wijekoon is one of my favourite profs I have had at UoG. Her midterms and finals are more than fair, it's a constant heavy course (especially the last part) but as long as you invest some good time you can easily get an A.
One of my favourite profs by far, she really cares about making sure you understand the difficult concepts, and is available to answer any questions outside of class. The labs, midterm, and final were all extremely fair- she is not trying to trick you. Such a sweet personality and really tried to make biochem as fun as it can be!
Loved her as a prof. Really cared about her students and explained concepts really well. Very passionate about teaching and is good at keeping you engaged. Midterm and final were super fair. Would definitely recommend.
She made a tough course easy! Her lectures and lecture notes were so easy to follow and understand. She made a genuine effort to explain every detail and even made models out of pipe cleaners to demonstrate processes. She would draw out the processes in class to really illustrate the steps to each process. Her tests were very fair with no surprises
Dr. Enoka was great at explaining concepts in a "level-headed" way. Biochemistry is a tough subject, but she explains it in a way that made it easier. Go to lecture for sure! She sometimes will have funny analogies with everyday objects that helps you remember:) Put in the work as well, and you are set for success.
I absolutely adored Dr. Wijekoon! She made a very content-heavy course seem easily comprehensible. Although there is a lot to memorize, the course is designed perfectly; I would not change a thing. Labs are good mark boosters and minimally stressful. Testing was very fair and an accurate representation of course content. Don't bother with the text.
Wijekoon is very good. She explains things very well for during lectures and attempts to make it more fun and enjoyable. Content during lecture is heavy so you do have to really pay attention, but she is a really good prof.
Best prof ever. She is caring and approachable. Got almost perfect in this class
She is amazing. She did a very good job at making a tough course make sense to everyone by breaking it down and showing things step by step to help us understand the material. If it wasnt for her I dont think I wouldve passed this class.
She is hands down the best prof I've had at UofG. She makes a very tough course so easy to understand as she goes step-by-step and gives many crucial examples that show up on the midterm and exam. She has review days where you can ask her anything and she goes over all of the content. I truly enjoyed the course as she made each lecture fun!
Wijekoon is such a great prof. The course itself is difficult but she makes it such a great experience. Even if you hate biochem, you'll come for Prof Wijekoon. She's hilarious and will make you laugh. She goes through most questions step by step and will wait to explain for anyone who's lost. Such an amazing prof and an even better person :)
She was amazing, made learning biochemistry much less intimidating and made me actually enjoy learning it. Her exams are fair, and she gives practice ones that are very similar to the actual test. Loved her!
She is a great prof. I really enjoyed her biochemistry class as you can tell she cares and wants the best for her students. She is free during office hours which is very helpful. Her midterm and final were fair. She gives a lot of resources to prepare for the final.
Shes just a really good prof who lays out all the details of whats too come. Nothing on midterm or exams felt out of the blue and it all felt really fair.
Amazing prof, especially considering how different everything was this year. Her lectures were engaging and made it easy to stay focused on what was being taught. Outside of lectures she provides many extra materials. Everything you needed to know was very well laid out so nothing was ever a surprise.
Dr. Wijekoon was my favourite prof of the online semester. She came prepared and made amazing zoom lectures. She was very engaged with the lecture material and really reinforced concepts in a way that made sense. Her midterms and exams were more than fair and definitely gave students a chance to excel in the course. A very kind person!
Dr. Enoka is great!
Dr. Wijekoon is by far the best prof I've had at the university so far, and she's an amazing lecturer! Biochemistry has some complicated concepts, but she explains them so that they're crystal clear. I didn't expect to like biochemistry going into the course, but I came out loving it! Her assessments are also very fair if you put in the work.
She was so willing to answer questions during or after the lecture. Tells you exactly what to study and the mock MT and exams she gives you are almost direct copies of what you will see. This course is in no way easy, a lot of memorization but she does help by giving abbreviations.
It is a lot of material to cover but this prof does it in a manner anyone can understand and I fell in love with biochem because of it.
Prepares you for the midterm and final. Is clear with her lectures and gives nice reviews. Also gives you enough time to grasp a concept which is tested later on. Keep up with her lectures and you should be good.
She is such a nice professor!
Explains every concept so well and tests are based right off of the lectures. She is different than other profs because she takes the time to add slides into her lectures that go back and review old chemistry and biology concepts (that you should know already) and explain them to help you build a strong level of understanding. The best prof period.
She is super kind and you can tell she puts a lot of effort in to make sure everyone is getting the material. She goes out of her way to make distance classes more involving. Labs were a breath of fresh air after analytical chem. The class is kind of hard but if you want to succeed enough you will. 100% would take her class again if possible.
She is a generally nice person but her lectures are so content-heavy. It's almost impossible to know everything for the midterm and final exam. she does talk a little fast but will go back over concepts if u need her to.
Here lectures are super engaging! Her notes make sense and makes a complex course with alot of memorization seem fun! I would take more science related course with her in a heart beat.
Wijekoon is an amazing prof, it's just that the content she teaches gets difficult fast. She will teach under the impression that you know the previous concepts she's taught (like amino acids @ beginning of the sem) so make sure to stay on top of info, or else it can get pretty overwhelming. She'll give 3 opportunities on each quiz so DO THEM ALL!
She's probably one of the best profs I have had. She's an amazing teacher and I really understood understood concepts, you will want to actualy attend class but other than that she is amazing.
She clearly explains everything and has engaging lectures. Her midterm was very fair and she gives ample opportunity to really understand the course material through course notes, examples, and practice exercises that are very much relevant to the tests.
Best professor EVER!! She is so caring, funny, and I thoroughly enjoyed her class. Definitely attend her lectures as the course content is very difficult but she explains it in ways that make sense. Her midterm and exams are extremely fair and reasonable. She really interacts with the class and is all around a wonderful person and prof.
Funny, gives relevant practice material and is an amazing lecturer. Would take her classes again.
I really enjoyed BIOC2580. She is really passionate about what she teaches and she always cracks some good jokes. The labs are very well thought out and straightforward. 10/10 recommend her as a prof.
Professor Wijekoon was an amazing professor. Although her lectures were long and full of content, she always tried to make small jokes to make the content enjoyable. I would fully recommend attending the lectures because of the extra information she is able to provide. Her midterm was very fair and was very similar to the ones she gave as examples.
The midterm was fair and like practice finals given to the class, but the final was completely different. For some reason the final focused on small topics barely discussed in the class and was very abstract; nothing like the sample final given which was 10x easier. Nice prof but the final was unnecessarily hard.
She is a very good prof and does her best to make sure you're understanding. Shes also a very nice person and tries to make jokes to lighten the mood. The only thing that's bad was the final. The midterm was not bad and was completely doable. The final on the other hand was really really hard. All the questions were on the tiniest of details.
The midterm was fair and like practice finals given to the class, but the final was very detailed and consisted of tiny things mentioned in class.
She teaches very well and so I am giving her a decent rating. The only thing I did not like was her assessments. She expects her students to know and memorize every little thing. The midterm was very fair and was similar to past midterms. However, the final exam was definitely a surprise and disappointment. Had a 95% going in, 85% after the final.
She had very good lectures, easy to understand or willing/able to rephrase. She was easily accessible outside of class and was very engaging!
Dr. Wijekoon is one of the best profs I've ever had. She gives incredibly clear, thoughtful, and engaging lectures. She is always happy to answer questions, genuinely cares, and 100% will make an effort to learn your name. The final was not unfair; it actually made my mark go up! It wasn't harder than the practice exam/midterm.
The class was very difficult but she tried her best to make sure the content was making sense. Great to speak with outside of class if you are struggling.
FALL22 rating: She has great lectures, they're >1hr long but she keeps the class engaged, makes jokes, and explains things well! The midterm was very fair (class avg ~68, i got ~85), just know your stuff and memorize amino acids. The final was kinda hard tho, but imo the 2nd half of the class is also hard. I ended up with 80 (~89 before final).
biochem can be challenging but she really tries her best every lecture to make the content easier to understand and wants her students to succeed. She also likes to make jokes and is very sweet.
A difficult class, but it is clear she really knows what she is lecturing about. Overall, would take a class again!
the class is difficult. shes nice and helpful in her office hours, but I personally did not enjoy her teaching style. she can go by a bit too quickly for my liking. she also does not include all the info in the lectures and spends a good amount of time talking about each slide which makes it harder to pay attention and take notes at the same time.
I love Enoka! I think she's one of the best profs ever. Biochem is a very heavy and dense course, I think she teaches it exceptionally well. Her lectures are digestible, and I think it's expected for a course like biochem that you would have to do supplemental learning. It's not a course you can succeed in solely dependent on lectures.
Dr. Wijekoon has been by far one of my favourite profs! Her lectures are content heavy, but they're also detailed and you can tell she wants us to succeed from the way she teaches and answers every questions. Her examinations, while tough, are fair and she doesn't throw anything at you that you haven't seen before. I would love to have her again!!
She was an absolute sweetheart, and definitely tried her best to explain everything thoroughly to her students so they could succeed. She really cared about her students. Fair midterm and final exam.
I personally didn't enjoy Dr. Wijekoon's teaching style all that much; though there were some things she explained fairly okay, I think some things were overexplained which made them confusing if that makes sense? the course itself is tough, but the exams were fair game and if you studied enough you should be good (though it is A LOT of material).
Class was definitely tough but she was a great prof
I don't know about previous semesters, but in Fall 2023, there were technical issues in almost every class which really did not help with the already fast paced lecture content that was covered in class.
Dr. Wijekoon has been one of my fav profs so far! She tries to explain concepts as best as she can and make the class a bit more enjoyable. I found the midterm and the exam pretty fair, however the content is very heavy and requires a lot of memorization, so if you have a good memorizing (not me) it will be easier for you.
Really nice prof, she was really good at teaching tough concepts. Exams were tough but fair. Lots of technical problems during classes, but she was a really good prof.
The sweetest prof ever, also very funny. I didn't attend lectures too often but when I did I found the pace and the example questions really good, and I loved her jokes and gifs she added. The midterm and final exam were difficult but the course is known to be difficult and I found them very fair. She definitely made the course more bearable.
Best prof you could ask for. Lectures were clear, fun and engaging. Cares about her students and making sure they understand the content. Tons of practice material given, lots of office hours, and midterm and exam were both very fair. Course is a lot of memorization plus conceptual understanding, but if you put the time/effort in you'll be good.
she is one of the best profs ive had so far at guelph. her midterm and final were extremely fair. lectures are great although they made her run a zoom section DURING my lecture slot, and she isnt the most tech savvy, so sometimes that caused delays. overall she is extremely clear about what you need to know for exams. love, would take again!!
Enoka was a fantastic professor! She presented the material in an interesting and thorough manner. No matter the prof, this course is super content heavy and can be difficult if you fall behind. I found her lectures super helpful, I definitely recommend you go to them. Lecture slides are clear and contain all the info you need to succeed!
I really enjoyed this class! Dr. Wijekoon does a really great job at being well-organized and clear while also being pretty funny. She even brought paper and pipecleaner models to demonstrate some aspects of protein folding which honestly made a huge positive difference in my understanding. It's too bad so many people talked through class :(
This course is very content heavy and requires way too much memorization. However it's quite easy to get a good mark granted that you do not fall behind on the lectures. Professor Wijekoon posts all her lectures online so attendance in-person isn't really mandatory. She makes the the concepts easy to understand but sometimes it's too much for 1hr20
Shes nice. The course is extremly content heavy, should be a 1.0 credit IMO. she says ALOT of things that are not on the slides and spends a lot of time on each slide that it makes it hard to follow or take notes, you def have to put a lot of effort into this class. Accessible in office hours though.
Good prof
was a good prof! Definitely recommend her as she takes her time in lectures. The actual content is super heavy and can be difficult. Midterm and exam were fair, mix of easy and more advanced questions. Overall seemed like a good prof
This prof is nice and all but they don't add your lab marks (20%) until after the final marks which would make the midterm worth around 33.3% and THE FINAL EXAM WORTH 52.3%. They don't specifically explain this in the course outline whatsoever which drastically changes everything. So if you flunk the midterm bad, go ahead and drop the course.
LOVE THIS QUEEN. She's the best ever!!!!! I 10/10 recommend this queen because she explained everything so well and lectures were recorded so you could go back and rewatch if you did not understand in class. The exams were very fair and all questions were based on lecture content. The labs were fun too.
Professor Wijekoon is SUCH an amazing prof! As someone who came traumatized from gen chem, she made understanding the course so easy and straightforward. She is very clear about what's on the midterm and exam, and the labs are super easy. She records her lectures, and takes up practice questions during class.
Dr. Wijekoon presented material clearly but I did not find her engaging.
My favourite professeur yet. This is a very hard course however, if you take the time to study and go to lectures it does pay off. Ended up being my highest mark of the semester (90%). Shes very kind and always answers questions to make sure you understand. Midterms and exams are fair and she makes it clear what will be on them.
She is very kind and caring. very content heavy but she breaks it down and makes it understandable. As someone who almost failed first year chem, put the effort in and you will get a good mark.
Very sweet professor with fair exams. Second half of the course is content heavy though!
tbh I didn't go to lectures a whole lot because she posted videos and I found it much easier to take notes and learn the content through the recordings. Class was overall really enjoyable and she really made an effort to connect to her students.
I love her. She is a queen.
The materials she gives to prep for exams is very low effort. She will give out practice quizzes and mock midterms but then have all the answers be "find it in the slides." Makes the whole studying process take way longer than it needs to be.
The exam was near impossible to do well on and proper material to prepare was not provided.
It is a really content heavy course and a lot to remember especially for the second half. but she is really good at explaining the content. it is hard to follow up with her for the whole 90min, but she posts recordings for her online section so you can rewatch it. Overall great, my fav prof.
Great prof, explains concepts very well! Her midterm was very fair, however I found the exam harder than expected.
Really good prof overall - her lecture slides are always very easy to follow and attending lectures is helpful for understanding. Very friendly and wants students to succeed, she would be happy to answer any further questions you had.
She was absolutely a great prof, The lectures were fun and engaging, The material itself is quite hard, especially if you were not on top of your last chem and bio courses, but being in class and doing practices will absolutely lead you to a good mark. The marking on the whole course is kinda weird, but great teacher overall.
She makes every lecture interesting and uses funny/relatable references to help students understand the course material. The midterm and practice questions were very similar to the exam. I found it to be a quite challenging course, though Professor Wijekoon really helped me pull through.
Professor is friendly and funny. Content heavy course but understandable. Beware lecture and lab portions are both pass or fail.
