Don't bother with this one. lousy personality, chip on his shoulder, thinks hes tough guy, poor taste in clothes, disorganized, mean attitude. nothing useful to say
Not my favorite
You will love him sometimes, you will hate him sometimes. He knows that and doesn't care, he wants to stimulate your mind and he does it. He does open your eyes to a lot of things you may not have noticed before as far as racism goes
he is a laid back tacher. If u want a easy A or B i recommend him.
take pass it and never look back
Terrible teacher. Never lectured on what was on the test, and graded you based on your opinion and if he agrees with you: A, If not: C or D. Lots of reading!
if your chicano(A) you should take this class, or any of his classes. Yes, this class is easy, yes this class is lay back, but he opens the eyes of a lot of people. He will make you think twice of who and what you really are.

Professor Orozco bring a great wealth of information to all his class, from history, philsophy, and religous study's. Dr.Orozco does a great job at keeping his lectures unbias and lecturing strictly to facts. You will come out of his class clearly infromd
He is a good and informative teacher. He is eager to share his wealth of knowledge with students. You have to want to learn in order to benefit from his lectures. He is extremely fair.Take him and have a fun class.
I recommend you to take him if you're a chicano(a). He'll really make you think and go 'hmm'. I don't ever recall going over any info on the test...but the class is entertaining. so the tests aren't so easy...but the class is fun.
Bad all the way!

Horrible, claims to be unbiased but isnt. Take someone else instead.
Terrible, he just thinks that he is the best and knows everything. Very unclear in his classes. You take notes all the time and his exams don't have anything from his notes! And I was there everyday, never missed class, I got a C!!!
i took him 3X for 3 different classes, and i'll admit he's not the clearest person...but then again the topic, chicano identity, is an ambiguous one. it took me 3 semesters of chicano studies with him, but he challenged & changed my thinking completely!
awesome... if you play sports (baseball)
Educational on ideas that have been with held from chicanos. . .lots of note taking!
extremely closeminded, talks about random life experiences that don't tie into anything he's lecturing on, gives the same notes...day after day! This is a hard class to fail...and if your not chicano don't take it!
MEChA Rules!!
Worst teacher I have encountered so far! Boring as hell lectures...and you feel like a zombie doing the same**** over and over! He is a conceited **** too! Oh and never any work that counts toward ur grade...just the mid term & the final...so if u suck at test...don't take him! BAD BAD TEACHER!
Wort teacher i've ever taken! He makes you sit in class day after day in boring stupid lectures. Makes false claims that chicano's are the best and how the white man has come to take everything away. Thanks to this guy PCC is ignorant! DONT TAKE HIM! went to class 2 times and got a B.*final & MidT
Boooooooring!!! Dude this teacher is so boring and full of himself. But if you have a Hispanic surname, you will get a B. I never did anything in class, just drew on my notebook and thats about it. No work, he didn't take roll... I got a C- on the midterm and probably blew the final, but got a B!!
I think he was great. He tells you what it is. And let me tell you, there are a lot of chicanos at pcc that think that they are what their not. He teaches you to be proud of your heritage
He is an excellent teacher. He is kind of conceited but he should be after all his education. I learned a lot from him. And I like and respect him very much, It was a pleasure to take his classes.Makes you think of what our jente has had to endure for hundreds of years.Easy class to take. so do it
Wow--this guy leaves you absolutely clueless about what's gonna be on his pretty difficult exams. I mean.....he goes "You will be tested next meeting" and that's it. I understand that the responsibility's on the student to know the material, but come on...we get no feedback whatsoever.
he is pretty lenient with the tests. he curves big time, really big time. his notes and lectures don't seem to make sense with the course subject, i mean of cours i'm no wiz at the subject but the stuff he tought didn't alway relate. always be early to class kiss a little ass, don't interrupt him an

He always talks about temple city. Most of his lectures have nothing really to do with whats on the midterm and final. If you have an interesting latin last name, i guarantee a good grade. he will take an interest in you. He never really takes role. Just go to class, do other class homework, read a lil from the book he wrote, and you will pass A,B
I'd say take him if u need an extra unit to graudate or transfer. He's easy, his lectures do suck but if you need an easy going class this is one of them to take... being latino/a is a plus!!!
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. Spends most of his time making ****/****/homophobic comments and telling stories about how great he is. Completely out to lunch. Lectures barely make sense and have so little to do with a coherent structure of any kind. He once spent an entire class talking about how he could have killed a mugger.
Orozco is by far a great professor. His lectures do indeed make sense, and I believe that close minded individuals do not take into consideration how he speaks from experience and from REAL aspects in life, not only for hispanics but in general. He knows what he's talking about and can back it up...come on he's a USC gradute!
Yes his lectures do suck sometimes, but he is really more interested in getting students to think for themselves than thinking for them. He can appear full of himself but the man has a doctorate and two masters degrees!! And he never passes up an oppurtunity to bash UCLA
I got an A. I have no idea how. Prof. Orozco is completely off the wall. I wasn't latina and felt utterly cast out. Lectures CAN be interesting but man, how much do we have to talk about cannabalism? Loves himself. Likes suck ups. No homework, just handouts- if you're a good writer your should pass. The tests were easy. Lectures were dreadful.50/50
this teacher seems like he's always on one....he's absolutely useless, he doe'snt offer help whatsoever
he was a very easy teacher i never went to class. he talks about of ramdom things and he gives readings but you dont need them.
Very boring and shows an extreme amont of favoritism. I was in MEChA and took the class with another member of that club. He never showed up to class and never studied, but put MEChA at the top of every test and he got an A. I insisted on earning my grade the hard way and got a B.
He's a very cool teacher...He say jokes once in a while..Respect him alot.
I hated this class! His lecture material never comes from the books you buy. As a history major, I learned nothing from him! He needs to get over that thing about Temple City.
Highly intelligent and very knowledgeable.I found him truely an isnspiration. He's not hard, but you do need to know what you're writing about in your essays.Have a point of view.He has been teaching for a long time and deserves respect. At least he's not a sellout like that obnoxious irritating upleasant Zarate who's lecture rhetoric is totally lame
good guy, need to take a lot of notes
He is a great teacher to me. I learned alot from his class and is very easy. I didnt have to buy books or anything his test just came from some of his lectueres. Sure he does talk alot and brag about himself but he has a right to because he is knowledgable. I brag to because I just graduated from PCC so hey enjoy it while you can.
This guy has serious psych issues-just listen to what he talks about in class You leave his class not having learned anything-exaggerates about his qualifications in an attempt to fool the students into respecting him and taking what he says seriously He seriously needs to be fired b/c he makes PCC look bad and replaced by Zarate to teach this clas
his tests are hard
Months after finishing I still have no clue what this class was about. All he does is tell the same lame stories about how he beats people up and then writes every single word he says on the bored, not jus thte useful ones. He is a nice guy though but I can not fathom how he got so many degrees.
DONT TAKE HIM. His notes are messy and unclear. His tests are hard and he doesnt help prepare at all for them!
Well I guess I would have expected a little more organization. His notes are all over the place. Everything he says, he writes on the board. So that isn't always helpful especially if he goes off on tangents. But hey, he does give you the essay topics before the tests. But the multiple choice tests are hard! I have no idea how I passed them.
Easy class..I missed like 20 times, missed 1 test and i still got an A. He teaches a lot on the board but all his notes never make sense so its really pointless on taking any. dont buy the book cause you never use it either..but overall if your l0okin for an easy A then take this class
pretty much what other people have said is true; his lectures are not organized and he does go off on a lot of tangents (sometimes really irrelevant), but he does have a lot to say that is informative and interesting. you have to help yourself to do well in this class, by reading and organizing the notes on your own time. stay away if youre lazy!!
Orozco is a complete idiot. He talks about NOTHING. Instead of being titled "Chicano in the US", ITshould be called "Orozco in the U.S.". All he talks about is himself and how he can knock everyone out? NO ONE cares how many degrees u have dude or what u did when u were 15, just TEACH the class! He claims to be unbias but obviously hate whites.
This professor is not worth the time or effort. His notes were very unorganized and excrutiatingly uninteresting. He constantly went into tangents that were irrelevent to what he was teaching. He hardly kept the student's attention and didn't seem to care some were sleeping in front of him.
He goes majorly off topic. He has a midterm and a final and you will be tested on the lectures from class. The actual test part is hard (he goes so off topic that note taking is kind of difficult) but the essays part is a breeze if you showed up to class and paid attention. I took his sociology class too. He entertaining.
Just show up to class..Tests are hard but he curves DRASTICALLY!..tells u essay question before, so u can google and learn it..even though hes a bit boring..its an easy A/B
orozco is basically like this. you show up, you dont its your loss..he uses the overhead constantly and if you pay attention and have a reason why taking his class then everything falls into place. if you're so concerned about his notes not being organized then take cairo. he'll give you something to do!!!! no homework easy reading handouts. good!!
Only history class I ever dropped. Now I've retaken it, and did much better. .
He is a really knowledgeable professor. I really enjoyed his class, and it's the reason why I enjoyed PCC. He is hilarious and entertaining. Just show up to class and listen, take notes, and if unsure about the test just talk to him. He's a good man.
If you pay attention in class you will do good, he is a great person, i got a B and didn't even try hard. If you take a class with him you will enjoy it as long as you understand his point of view, don't have to agree with him, but listen he is very interesting.
i think prof. orozco is wonderful! he teaches great and makes us laugh. he makes the lecture a lot more interesting. very helpful, and kind. i recommend him!
Chicano Socio. Orozco is like this. he doesnt care if you show up but believe me he knows who is and isnt there lectures suck big time. they are all over the place. they dont help on test. just try to do your best and try not to stress it. IF YOU WANT AN A i HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you participate. he likes it and if you do youll get an A for sure
All he talks about is his life story and how he has been wronged so many times. Barely talks about History & when he does it's like a broken record. Same stuff over and over. Because of that you have to read the book, and I dropped because of that. I knew I would fail. Don't take him!
he is cool and funny.
He's an easy "A" but u might not learn Anything! His defenition of Lecturing is taking about personal experience and stories. He's very educated and will talk on about it ALL the time..can be intimidating.dont need to read book...just be their everyday..Make sure he knows ur name so he can give u an "A". I luvs 2 be challenged.so TALK in class.
Orozco talks aloot of BS..& he knows he can which is Worst..he talks about his own personal experience 24/7..and doesnt follow any curriculum...he can be arrogant.overall Extremely STRONG personality..u might not learn anything!! I think deap down he has his own IDentity issues he hides...hes a Conservative Chicano..i disliked his reasinds.easy "A
he's a cool prof...VERY EASY the final is based on everything he says within the first week and he continues to drill it into your heard for the other 15. cool dude though- very chill...i was there did a lil chatting wrote a some what good essay and i got an "A" in the class not bad right?
Orozco talks alot of BS but has the brains to back it up. I gotta say that he is a smart man, really could learn from him if you have patience. His class is somewhat the same every day; ASK QUESTIONS! or it will suck. Challenge Him, that is always fun; but have the class for back up. read the book because the test is based on it. Notes: useless.
Definitely the best Prof at PCC took him for 3 classes and got an A in everyone. He is very intelligent and it is a pleasure to learn from him.If you love history I recommend taking his classes. Totally cool Prof. Take good notes and you will do fine.
This guy is full of himself and talks out his ass most of the time. As a teacher he didn't teach me anything. You have to attend his classes and talk (A LOT) to get an A but notes are mostly pointless (still take them) because he will end up testing you on something he never told you to read (ur txt book). If you want an A: speak up and read txt
worst class i've ever taken! hardly learned anything, just that he's obsessed w/ jessica alba. notes are useless, doesnt give assig. or take attendance. only knows u if u have a conversation w him everyday. test are hard kuz he doesnt really teach in an organized way.
easy class... just show up to class and youll pass it, cool professor, funny too, took his class 3 times for 3 different classes
A Joke! This guy is going through the motions, the newest material he uses in his classroom is from the 90's. He never finishes any subject he brings up, and if you call him on his BS, he goes into Ad hominem and red herrings. Not to mention all his pamphlets are religious rhetoric that has nothing to do with anything.
I am currently taking his course on MX History. He has no defined teaching structure and like many people have said he runs off on long winded stories @ times. I take multiple pgs of notes which do not make a connection in my brain b/c there's too much being said with no true connection to Mexican Hist. Read the books, they bring clarity to notes
great teacher he has taught me various interesting things through his knowlege
Tests are not based on lecture, never use the textbook, but he doesn't care about what you do in class.
Great teacher. Take him!!
Take this professor if you want to increase your self-worth!! He is really motivated to help you in anything.
He talks on and on about random stories that have nothing to do with the class. Don't buy the books because he never ask for them and has No teaching structure. He's a nice intelligent man but that does not mean he knows how to teach
Make sure to question. The more you argue the better your grade will be! Sometimes he gets off topic but be very constructive with your argument.
He's a pretty cool guy. Random stories are interesting. Take him if you don't want to be an ignorant person.
Eh. He talks about himself 90% of the time. You're on your own for the midterm/final, which is based off his unorganized lectures and boring textbook. In all fairness, he is a smart guy. History 31 is Chicano History...he pretty much talks about how much whites hate browns...I wouldn't recommend him. It's an easy pass, just get to know him.
He is a very smart guy who knows lots of random facts & is passionate about history, human rights & discussing current events. But he cannot teach at all. He goes on random personal tangents that have NOTHING to do with the material. If he didn't curve the tests everyone would have failed because his lectures are so unhelpful.
chill. random stories but pretty entertaining. easy. and you need to study the worksheets he gives you. no homework. midterm, final, book report and try to have him recognize you outside of class. overall, its alright.
Taken: Fall11 Background: Plan to transfer to UCB or UCLA for Psych. I took this class as a non-chicano. If you go to class and talk your on your way to an A. I also tried reading the book, it was very difficult. Make sure he knows your name, talk so much its annoying, honestly. I loved him, he cares about his students!! Received:A
Worst class ever!, you will hate his class from the very first day. Don't take his class, or you will regret it!
GREAT CLASS it opened my eyes, i view the world differently. I believe that's his goal. For those who feel he goes off on random stories and has no structure its only because he is giving real life scenarios. very thank to have been a part of such a cool class.
Haha this class is ridiculous. The only thing that you'll remember from his class and lectures is that he likes Jessica Alba. That's it.
The class was boring, I kept on falling asleep, his voice is difficult to understand, he's unorganized, but if you want an easy A his class is best :)
GREAT PROFESSOR. GREAT CLASS!
Orozco is something different. He is a great professor but has a different way of thinking. If you really pay attention to his lectures, you will actually learn something. Yes he is unorganize and yes he talks a lot but it is just his way of teaching. I would definetly recommend him. I received an A, I showed up all the time and talked during class
He is an awesome teacher if you're curious as to Chicano Studies and the history of Mexico. He is extremely knowledgeable and LOVES questions and students who disagree with him. ask questions and you'll get an A for sure.
Loved this class. He's a great teacher. Very intelligent. If you want to know about Chicano Studies take him
This guy is very knowledgeable but he simply does not know how to TEACH. He talks about the information and writes random things on the board with very bad handwriting. He gives you packets and packets of reading and the class is VERY HARD. HOWEVER, he curves the tests which helps a lot.
RUUUUUN!!! Do not take this class UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Extremely boring and inconsistent. Just because he has a degree to teach doesn't mean he should teach.
WORST CLASS! He doesn't even know how to teach, he is arrogant and all he does is lecture about his. NOTHING EDUCATIONAL. He then hands out like 20 million packets to read. It wasn't even the work that was hard but having to sit through his class was so difficult. I walked out various times. After taking this class i died a little inside
I taken all of Orozco's classes and passed them all with A's. He is a very intelligent professor he lectures allot. His test are all about his lectures. If you attend to class every day and ask questions you will pass,he loves when students ask questions and participate he takes notes of who is participating.
Awesome Professor. He has his own ways of thinking but that doesn't mean that students should disrespect him. Just go to class, listen, take notes, and ask questions or participate (he loves that), If you ask stupid questions, he'll tell you how it is.. He's great, he has a lot of common sense, and he knows a lot... I recommend him!
LOVE HIM!!!
Orozco doesn't really talk about the book unless you bring it up during class. He doesn't take roll and doesn't assign homework or tests. There is only a midterm and final exam. If you ask questions and give your opinion during class he'll give you a really good great. Just talk to him during class and you'll be fine.
Participate and you will get a good grade. He likes when students ask questions. He is a great professor in my opinion.
I loved his class! So much information but make sure to take notes, he usually puts a lot of the stuff he talks about in class on tests. He will make you see things in a different perspective, very intelligent guy and knows a lot about a wide range of other subjects. I highly recommend him! Easy A as long as you participate and take notes.
He is a good teacher but honestly, his lectures are jokes!!! He teaches what he wants and his writing is so messy. I was absent and emailed him with no reply. Also, on one of our tests he screwed up the numbers/order of the questions and threw us all off. I was trying to correct them but I had no time and probably failed... Take another class...
He wrote the required book & I'm convinced he had us buy it so he gets paid.. we didnt use/mention it once. Lectures are ridiculous he talks about random things & writes random words that he says on the board really messy. He curves the tests so much a D could become a B, but who knows whats on the test when it's unclear what we are even "learning"
I missed probably 2 classes. He gives a lot of packets that he expects you to read but doesn't test you on those. He gives a huge curve on his test. Don't sit in the middle of the front of the class if you do not want to participate. I usually read the packets to pass time.
What Mr. Orozco mentioned in class have saved my life, not only academically, but for after graduating college. There were so many times of what he brought up have changed my perspective towards the U.S. society and even my personal relationship. He is a bold but intelligent person. You have to be bright and aged enough to understand the lessons.
Easy to communicate with and gives positive feedback.
Professor Orozco is he best chicano professor his lectures are great are interesting about the Mexican culture and the communities his tests are easy if you like and are proud of your culture
He's a little odd, first impression is he's a tough grader. I missed his midterm&he made me feel like the final would make me fail the class. But as long as he remembers your face it'll benefit you at the final for extra points because he doesn't always take attendance. No book needed tbh! 2 take home essay exams& long lectures easy!
He doesn't call attendance just passes a sign up sheet once in a while. you watch some documentarys and he lectures most of the time his notes however aren't understandable. You'll most likely get a C it's not a difficult class.
Horrible lectures, unorganized and if you look away for one minute you'll be lost for five. His tests make zero sense, they don't even go with the hundreds of packets he gives out to read. He curves tests bc everyone fails them, mulitiple choice. participation as e.c. Our final was a 6 page assignment given to us the day before
Lectures are unclear you never know what he is talking about. His hand writing is horrible. Don't buy the book you won't use it AT ALL. Don't worry about the test because he curves the grade. You can't fail this class.
He was an "okay" professor. He can rant forever during lectures if you let him. He goes off topic; his lectures are unscripted and unorganized. He usually shows up to class with a scrabble of papers and pull out random things. His writing on the whiteboard is awful and don't bother purchasing his book. He curves every single test so that's a plus.
No homework given, do not buy any books for this class because he always hands out packets that go with the lecture, and the semester consisted of 4 exams all of which are curved. He also never took attendance. He is very knowledgeable and easy going, my advice would be to make sure you at least ask one question so he can recognize you (trust me)
Dr. Orozco is a great professor! He does not follow a rigorous day to day syllabus like most professors. Also, if you pay attention you will see that Dr. Orozco does not go off topic with his stories, but they are rather significant to his lectures. He's very caring and participation matters. PCC is lucky to have such a wise Chicano professor.
Great teacher, really changed my perspective on life is a brown/ Chicano the way I looked at myself... Finally found how many people related to my experience growing up here in The States but having a Mexican heritage. I really appreciate him. He's a great, caring teacher.... a must take at PCC.
Just ask questions in class and make sure he knows who youre in the class. Honestly not a hard class. Test are just something else. Its crazy but I passed with an easy B. Just listen to what I said about asking questions and there you go easy grade.
His class is supremely dense and dry it's painful. He doesn't take attendance whatsoever. Everybody agrees it's an awful experience but the tradeoff is nearly zero homework. 10 kids were in the class by the end of the semester out of 30 that started. Unless you're SUPER interested in the Chicano struggle in LA. Take any other anthropology class.
If you take good notes his multiple choice test are easy to pass. Don't buy the book you won't use it. Borrow it from the library to read the chapters if you want you, you don't really have to because his notes sum it up.
Awesome profesor. Opens your eyes to a lot of the struggles chicanos have and go through. Take notes and read the articles he hands out and you'll pass.
educated, experienced, and well spoken. doesn't use canvas/record grade, unorganized, forgetful. once repeated an entire lecture and didn't realize he did, no one had the heart to say anything. curves the 4 exams. taking his class is taking a chance with your grade. TONS of packets passed out. exams are hit or miss. lectures or rants? I can't tell.
Yes, his handwriting is messy but just ask what he means and he will elaborate. Take notes during lectures and take pictures of his slides. He is old fashioned but knows his stuff. Definitely a course to take if you are Chicano/a or want to know more. He LOVES questions, so develop a relationship over that for an A. Tests are not so hard; lots of
Best professor ever. He is very enthusiastic about teaching. He loves questions and always has something to say. His class is all lecture based. There isn't a lot of work besides 3 tests and a final. The only reason people don't like him is because they are expecting a traditional teacher who spoon feeds them work. He stimulates your thoughts.
Orozco take him with caution!! I only put his difficulty level at a 3 because you have to ask A LOT of questions for him to remember you. If you sit in the front row and ask one question a day you should be ok. If you don't ask questions he gives you a hard time in class and in your writing. 2 test and 2 writing exams. PARTICIPATION is KEY !!!!!!
Professor Orozco doesnt care about tests or homework or structured lectures. He tries to open the minds of chicanos and tries to share his vast knowledge. He tells stories that relate to the lecture and tries to make it interesting. Attendance isnt required. Tests are curved a lot. Participation is key because itll help if he remembers you.
