great teacher. I found the material difficult but he taught it wonderfully and he is quite amusing. Study the text and take notes
His class can be hard if you don't take notes or study. But pretty easy if you do. He's a really good teacher and makes the subject really interesting. I highly recomment him if you want a medium easy course and to learn a lot.
ALL I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS TEACHER IS HARD MAN. I HAD HARD TIME TO UNDERSTAND HIM. IF U ARE TAKING HIS CLASS GOOD LUCK.
Good notes giver.
My favorite teacher in all of lavc. Highly recommend him
very easy, interesting teaching style
What a wonderful teacher he is. I took him for Econ 1, he was great, though his test were not that easy but I gain a lot.I recommend him for any economics major.
A good guy and a great teacher. He provides excellent notes but does not have the easiest of tests. He is always willing to help a student out. Take him...you wont regret it!
Class really boring. Didn't understand anything he tought. But if you read the book and do the work book u'll get a good grade.
One of the best teachers I have had in my entire academic years! He is great!
An Excellent teacher.Very remarkable
i never thought that economics would be interesting, not until he was my professor
SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
Great professor. I never like econ till I took him. Take him you will love ecom if you take this class with him
Had him both for Econ 1 and 2, teaches enough to understand book, tests are tricky, but answers questions very clearly, and explains clearly, lecture is not enough to do well on tests. NEED TO READ.
Very nice teacher and will help you out if you ask for help. The only downfall about his class is that his tests are VERY hard. I studied so much and still didnt do well on tests. Other than that he is an amazing teacher
This class was super challenging. The testa are so difficult, nothing that we discuss in class is on the exams. If you can avoid taking him, I highly advise you to pass.
Tests are so incredibly difficult that I almost gave up. Nice teacher though.
For those who aren't big econ people, this class will definately be a challenge, but the professor is a great guy. He geniunely cares about your success. If your struggling, talk to him, he'll weigh your options with you. STUDY STUDY STUDY though.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Hard class, but he really makes you want to make it. Study hard. 1st test is harder, gets a little easier.
One of my favorites. He's really cool and he grades on a big curve. Tests not too diificult. He's fun to listen to.
very nice and helpfil teacher, tests are hard and make you wonder if they're based on the same class you've been sitting in. reading the book and using the workbook are a must. he's open to help you if you ask for it.
his tests are bit hard
Well this class is impossible. i tried so hard and i got a C. the teacher is nice and cares about his students but his test are impossible and you must go to class. Also you need to read the book a few times and must do the workbook. i dont recommend this class he does grade on a big curve
This teacher is very nice but the class is very very very HARD!!!!!!! if you do not want to work REALLY HARD! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS BECAUSE IT IS VERY HARD. I WORKED VERY VERY HARD AND I GOT A "C".
I really liked this class. I was able to get an A while barely reading the book. Excellent class if you are a fan of logic and can work with graphs(visual representation of mathematical relationships). As a rule of thumb, this class is for the same type of people who love geometry.
I like this teacher a lot because he loves his subject and enjoys sharing his enthousiasm for it. However, this class is extremely hard! Be prepared to work your ass off. I heard econ 2 with him is easier...
This teacher is horrible dont even waste your time... Honestly just dont take it unless you want a C stay away
He is a really good teacher! He teaches you a lot in his class...Test are not that hard..just read the book, take notes and you will be fine! He is hard but you learn a lot...
Great teacher!!!!! Awesome personality. His tests are not hard as long as you read the book. They are straight from the chapters. I got an A without much difficulty because I read the chapters. The people who say they got C's probably aren't too smart in the first place, or didn't try hard.
Truthfully, he has hard tests and his accent is exclusive. My class had a hard time understanding him so I would have to disagree with everyone here. So Sorry! But he's a nice guy.
This class sucked, you can't understand him his accent is so heavy, the tests are super hard and not based on the homework or lectures. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, if you can avoid it. When I took this class the class averge was a 60% so he changed the grading scale.
here is a great professor but he is pretty hard.
Hard class 8% of class get A
He is such a great teacher.Very funny, thorough, very helpful and concerned, and really knows a lot about economics, well he's got his Ph D.The tests are pretty hard, and sometimes tricky, but if you read the book, you can get at least a B.He drops the lowest score and curves the tests too.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He is also one of the funniest people i have ever met. This class is not easy though however you learn a lot. Take advantage of having such a great teacher and ask him questions, he wants you to do good in the class, he keeps it interesting
great teacher. easy grading scale. will curve his grading scale very genorously. very helpful. always available and answers all your questions
He lectures a lot. You need to read book and take notes also. His tests are very hard! He does curve the scale.
This guy is smart, he knows his stuff but he also is hard. He usually do give a lot of hw maybe 1 or 2 assignments per semester with 2-3 quizes. Problem is the test. He usually makes the test pretty tricky but he dose curve like crazy. 50% on test becomes b after the curve. If you want to pass the class then u have to read or u will fail him.
Not the easy a your looking for... but if you are truly interested in Econ, he will expand your mind... has the great Middle Eastern accent which just adds flavor to the class.. reading and taking notes required.. great guy.
He's not that easy, but he's good. Take him if you wanna learn stuff.
Great teacher knows his stuff, has an accent but it doesnt get in the way of the lecture. He is very accessible and nice guy about it. Not alot of hw. If your looking for an easy A your NOT going to find it in his class. You gotta take notes and read the chapters or else you'll be taking the class over. If you don't study you wont pass. His test ar
Test are hard, not for slackers. He knows his stuff, head of department can wave prerequested if you talk to him, test usually curved pretty high. In my class 72 became a B. If you do not study you will not get an A, gives 4 suprised quizes, may give 1 or 2 hw. Test multiple choice, give 10 point extra credit. Test are tricky, study hard
great teacher, even though i didnt earn a "c" in the grades, he still gave it to me because i was always answering questions in class and went after class to see what i need to study

DR. Aksoy is very helpfull, and great professor. He is a unique asset to Valley.Tests are hard, you have to study however when you finish his class you'll now more about econ and overall U.S. economy.I took Econ 1 with Milner and I wasn't satisfied but Aksoy wow.I got a B but I enjoyed the class.Take him, he is great.
Willing to work with you, knows his stuff.
He is a great teacher. He is hard if you do not keep up. If you are looking for a career in economics this is the teacher for you. he is very smart and helpfull. Curves tests. He is very nice and very fair. He is one of those teachers that you cannot hate. Take him if you want to learn and earn an A
The previous commentor does not know what they're talking about. Dr. Aksoy is amazing!! He is so incredibly knowledgable and makes Economics easy to understand for all students. He kept me very interested in the subject and eager to earn a good grade. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!
He is a great professor, very knowledgeable. Prof. Aksoy is not hard, but the material is tricky. Econ 2 is easier than Econ 1 for sure, but don’t expect to show up to class and get an easy A. The class itself requires effort, try not to be absent, ask questions, very helpful. I got an A, but I definitely needed to study a bit.
overall, he is a great teacher and really knows his stuff. his lectures are clear and concise. the quizzes are easy, but the tests are ridiculously tricky. he offers a curve and an extra credit assignment. if you're willing to work hard and are truly interested in getting a better understanding of the subject, then he's the teacher for you.
Go to class, Pay attention. Before tests go through work book, some questions are identical.
Cool guy.
Such a nice guy. He clearly loves the subject matter and makes the class interesting. However, I had to study hard to do decent in this class. His teaching method is better suited for higher level Econ classes. His lectures are long and sometimes confusing when dealing with concepts. Depending on the avg. scores, he'll grade on a curve.
The best instructor specially for those who are really interested in economics. Mr Aksoy is a very knowledgeable professor and a very nice, kind person. His class is one of the best I've taken at LAVC.
Aksoy is one of the nicest teachers you will ever have. Make an effort to get to know him and it will pay dividends for you. Plus he has top notch Econ knowledge being from U. of Michigan.
nicest teacher ever, he is very smart and i learned so much in class, his tests are hard though and you really have to study , the workbook and the questions at the end of each chapter help you study a lot
lovely lectures BUT hard tests!!! so please, DO study. it's very important. the workbook helps a lot.
Mr.Aksoy is an amazing teacher with a knack a teaching a difficult subject. Tests are straight forward. i got b's in econ 1 and 2. you're the man aksoy
very hard, have to understand subject
This guy rocked. His classes were really fun, very informative, and you learn a lot. His tests are super tough because the answers are so close in similarity, but it's a class worth taking. You'll have a blast. Aksoy has a great sense of humor, a sharp wit, and will bend over backwards to help any student who is struggling. Great class.
THIS PROFESSOR ID THE BEST GRADES ON A MAJOR CURVE HE WANTS YOU TO PASS HIS CLASS TAKE HIM. STUDY FOR TESTS
Capable of good teaching. Close to impossible to get an 'A' due to tricky questions. You MUST be sure to ask if you do not understand--that's when he shines--otherwise, the class gets boring. Teaching is understandable if you're familiar with it (reading ahead), so ask questions! Then, he shines as a more-than-capable teacher.
I just finished taking Dr. Aksoy's class in the Summer session and must say he is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He knows what he's talking about, gives lots of details, and makes sure you know the material before he moves on. He is semi-funny too lol! Overall he is great and recommend him to all. I'll take him again for Econ2!
The guy is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and lectures very clearly and in depth, but when you get the test, it's mass confusion. He admits to putting questions that are meant to trick you! Key to success: the workbook that comes with the book. Read ahead to know what the next lecture will be about and he implements a sexy curve that helps.
He is an amazing instructor. Well knowledgable in the subject matter, very approachable, concise, and will try his hardest to get you to understand the subject. Since he is the head of the department, his test will be difficult. Reading and doing workbook problems is required to just pass his course. To get an A ur gonna have to study hard
Dr. Aksoy has a wealth knowledge. He is an amazing teacher, always helful; however, his test are not that tricky as others mentioned below, but there touch, they require extra thought and extra studying from the lecture notes, book, study guide, class attendance, and alplia(computer generated program). This class is definetly not an is A!
This class is pretty hard, but Dr. Aksoy is a wonderful teacher who wants everyone to pass. Tests are ok, but the final exam was hard. He curves the class and that helps a lot, along with a decent extra credit. Study, and do homework (one assignment) and you should be ok. I hate Econ and I got a C
Excelent teacher. Every lecture was very usefull. I stopped reading the book because his lectures covered everything well. Just read the workbook and come to every class and you'll do fine. Focus reeaaaallllyyyy hard on the tests because they're kinda tricky.
I hate econ. Lucky to get a C. Dr. Aksoy is a good teacher and he really wants everybody to pass. Study study study really hard for this class. Dr. Aksoy is not a boring lecturer, but the subject period is difficult so be prepared.
I'm not interested in Econ, actually hated it prior to class. Prof. Aksoy is not only a great teacher of the subject, but makes it really interesting. I really enjoyed going to his class & liked to hear him talk about a variety of topics related to Econ. Tests are challenging, study guide, reading and class notes CAN get you an A or B in the class.
Aksoy is a great teacher...He knows his stuff and explains everything well, but the subject itself is hard...Failed almost all my tests and he passed me with a C...As long as you try, he notices that...Take good notes, cuz most of the stuff on the test is from the notes...THANKS AKSOY!!!
Horrible teacher. He doesnt know how to lecture, very boring. I used to be an econ major, straight A student until I failed his class. i odnt recommend taking his class at all.
This professor goes very deep into the subject. I think you have to have a business thinking to understand economics. If you read the book, do the online quizzes, you will have a good grade in the class. There are three tests. The first one is very hard. He drops the test that you scored the lowest. In our class the curve is 86 and higher!
KNOWS HIS STUFF, ALWAYS PREPARED AND SEEMS LIKE HE HAS MEMORIZED THE BOOK. READ THE BOOK!! HIS LECTURES COVER ALL OF THE MATERIAL BUT I WOULD RECCOMMEND READING THE CHAPTER RIGHT AFTER HE LECTURES, EVERTHING WILL MAKE SENSE. I BELIEVE HE'S A GOOD TEACHER/LECTURER, HIS TESTS ARE DIFFICULT BUT NOT TOO HARD JUST GOTTA USE THE BRAIN MORE. CHALLENGING!
really study... or else no good grade
Very knowledgeable. Well prepared for the lecture. Really cares about his students. Very clear and helpful. Patient.
Aksoy is probably one of the best teachers on campus undoubtebley. I have actualy decided to become an econ major because of him. His class isn't for slackers, but you will learn an immense amount. Aksoy is the bomb!Take His Class!
Barely passed Econ 1...Second time taking Econ 2...Difficult class, difficult tests, don't take ECON PERIOD! =)
Sure, he knows his stuff - I would hope so if you're a Professor, but he is HARD. His lectures do not go with his exams. I used the study guide, but that barely helped too. It is just a HARD subject, but he makes it even harder & unfair when it comes to his tests.
He is a very good teacher, the class is easy to pass with a c but, if you want an a you need to study the lecture notes and the book. He is a very nice man and his lectures are always interesting. He knows a lot about econ.
This guy know a lot about economics. He gives good lectures, but does not cover everything that is going to be on the test. It a hard subject and in order to get a good grade you must read the boom and understand it. He gives three test and drops the lowest, all which are challenging.
Best teacher so far. Three exams and final. Drops your lowest exam score. Learn so much but it's for serious students only, his tests are not easy. He does cure the tests. Need 86% for an A. Would definately recommend for anyone whos serious and willing to work. Does give extra credit.
He really wants you to do well in his class. His lectures are pretty interesting and easy to understand. It is still EXTREMELY wise to read the book; preferably each chapter in its entirety. Be sure to attend class so you can stay up to date on the material. If you show him that you're trying ,he'll be kind when grading :) and you'll do fine.
He is one of the best and nicest professors i have ever had...He is able to explain a lot of information in a very short amount of time, but still make it understandable...It is a great idea to attend his lectures and then supplement with reading the book but it is not necessary. If you have the opportunity to take this class I would highly recomme
If you're looking to actually learn Econ, pick Aksoy. In fact, he makes you more than learn it--he makes you love it. Not only is he brilliant, clear, and concise, but he is really funny and cute and actually cares about his students. All you have to do is just listen to his lectures (which are never boring). Workbook is also very helpful.
His lectures are witty and interesting. His tests are impossible. He had to curve everyone to pass. Milner's tests were more fair.
If you pick two top Econ professors in entire LACCD, he is certainly one of them. You will enjoy econ but will be challenged in the tests. But if you are like me who love challenge and prove himself, then take and get an "A" like I did. HE IS FAIR.
Dr. Aksoy was a class I was always willing to struggle to show up to (I have a problem with punctuality). It helps to read your material ahead of time. It helps if you're life isn't cluttered, but if it is, it doesn't make this class impossible. I made it. What pulled me through the hoops of passing was Dr.Aksoy's intriguing lectures.Use online cd.
WARNING! The previous statements are not 100% accurate. Although he is very thorough in his lectures, his tests are EXTREMLY hard. I have a 3.3 GPA and worked very hard in his class, but got a C. Just barely. This class is not easy to pass.
The best Econ professor! Knows his stuff very well and knows how to pass it on to his students. His tests are HARD, but if you do the work and take notes, you'll ace them. I averaged 95% on my tests. He has a really cool accent that doesn't get in the way, and he is HILARIOUS. He will help you as much as you need to, he will even buy you coffee!
Absolutely horrible professor. Econ was my major and I changed it because of him. I got a D in the class which was the highest grade...His tests are impossible no matter how much you study. He is also very boring and sometimes hard to understand because of his accent. DONT TAKE IT!
JUST STAY AWAY FROM HIM PERIOD.
He was a good teacher. knows what he's doing and explains well. cefore going to his tests do the problems in the manual that came with the book and oyou;ll be fine. I didn;t read the book but read and did it and got an A! Thanks!
By far, the most incredible teacher at Valley. He's thoughtful, vivacious, and intelligent. It's easy to get an A. He really makes Economics an intriguing subject, and studying for his exams require less than an hour.
He is a very nice guy and extremely helpful. If you attend classes and study you will pass the tests period and as someone said he curves the tests. I got a B in two of his classes and i didn't give my full effort. If you are considering being an Econ major take this guy, he will make you love Econ and makes it interesting. I took Miliner he sucked
He knows his stuff, but I'm not sure that he could teacher it comprehensively. It is almost impossible to get past his accent. I dropped the class because I basically had to rely on my book entirely and it just was NOT working out. I do not recommend him for an easy A at all
I didnt like this class but it was prob coz the subject didnt interest me. But he was pretty nice. He also liked when students were more engaged with what he was teaching. Not an easy class though.
HARD ASS TEST! his lectures and the test are not the SAME. DO NOT take if ur used to getting B and C's
Great professor. He will make you love econ. Very interesting lectures. I totally recommend him. Not an easy A but when is Econ ever an easy A. He gives extra credit & curves the grade too so it's not that hard.
Amazing professor, if you just buckle down and pay attention, the class is a breeze. I understand some people don't like econ, and that doesn't help, but I had no interest in econ either and that has now changed. Anyway, he's funny, very thorough in his lectures and really not as hard as people claim.
He is a hard teacher. he seems to teach the class like we already know the stuff. i studied hard for his class and only got a c because of the curve. his lectures and test do not match, most is from the study guide. he is a funny professor and he cares for his students and the class is enjoyable. you just need to be able to devote a lot of time
Great professor - one of the best professors I have had. He really cares about the students, is patient and answers all question. It's easy to get an A - just study the notes and the study guide. He makes Economics a fun topic. I highly recommend him.
He was a really good teacher,I just messed up.He is really easy.If you want to pass the class just go to class everyday and pay good atterntion!
Just an amazing professor. He explains everything in detail and brings examples and funny stories which make the topic even more interesting. Easy to get an A - take notes and pay attention.
Best teacher I have had. very knowledgable and explains everything very clearly. Tests are fair and homeworks are easy. He cares about his students. Econ is hard but this professor makes the class interesting and easy.
Professor Aksoy is great, his way of explaining Economics is Awesome! It's a tough subject, but he has a great way of teaching.
The best econ teacher. Students just gotta do their reading and be logical/ common sense.
The best professor at LAVC. Funny and really knows his material. Explains everything thoroughly and will repeat explanations if necessary. Few homework assignments, three tests and a final. Drops the lowest test score. Offers extra credit. Accent but is really easy to understand. Supplements material with current events and stories.
Excellent Professor, his lectures are really clear. You must attend his classes if you want to pass. He is not easy.
Yall are Crazy. Im a straight A student and I think he is awful. He expects you to already know the material and is not clear when you ask questions. Overall hes not helpful.Hes a very nice man, but his methods are useless. The class average on the 1rst test was a 57.5. There are two people who did well. But hey maybe you can handle it! I may drop
He is one amazing professor here. If u go to class and listen to his lecture, u dont even need to read the text, in my case for econ1. Just do problems in studyguide & end of chapters, u'll do good. I find his class challeging to get an A. More importantly, his way of explaining the subject matter was interesting, fun, and easy to comprehend.
Professor Aksoy is very interesting, fun and informative! If you take really good notes and do the problems in the workbook, that should cover you for the tests. This can be a very confusing subject - I needed to do alot of studying and went to tutoring too. I would recommend taking Aksoy since he's very fair and I really enjoyed his lectures!
AKSOY is the gem of LAVC. His class is easy but you learn a alot. Enjoyable because he relates it to the real world and current events and he is such a funny guy. If you are a business or econ major, you should take this guy because you will have a very solid background in ECON without killing yourself.
Excellent Professor. Very wise man.For business majors I totally recommend him. Take very good notes, read the chapter in advance & after the lecture. But try to understand the concepts, rather just copying what's on the board.3 exams, drops the lowest, and a final.40 multiple choice ques. on exams,60 on the final.5 homeworks,he may have pop-up quiz
This professor really does know his material. But, so far it's been pretty hard for most of the class to pass the tests. I think if anyone wants to take the class it should be over a full semester, not a summer/winter session. It's too much to take in and learn in such a short period of time.
Fantastic teacher, knows his stuff, very well-spoken, and makes ECON fascinating. Use the study guide, pay attention, and you'll do well. I noticed the subject was difficult for most others, but if you've ever found yourself amazed with the dearth of lit bulbs in one room at a time, (to put it politely) you'll do brilliantly.
Greatest teacher at valley, he knows economy and has a great grading curve if you are interested in economy take him, if you aren's you will be after you take him.
he is a great teacher, knows exactly what hes talking about. not an easy class though, you need to put in the work and time. gives 3 exams (drops the lowest) and a final, with few hw assign and one extra credit assign. if your looking for an easy A this isnt the class to take. but if you are interested in econ and want to learn something, take him.
He's a good professor, however his subject is normally very hard for the majority of people. With that said if you want to take this subject, then I would recommend him, especially for macro econ.
Los Angeles Valley College should be honored to have a teacher of his caliber teaching at their school. Great experience, and he has an authentic passion for the field.
He is really smart and funny guy. During kectures he gives extra information not relevant for the test. If you want to study for the test due the study guides and the lectures do not waist your tine reading the chapters he will not go in order as the book.Great teacher for economics major
As you can see he gets a lot of reviews.Wish there were more teachers like him!Hard material, pay attention, dont miss class, read your text, and you'll do fine.He is extraordinary!Layed back,funny,helpfull,compasionate,friendly... :)
Dr.Aksoy is a great, very knowledgeable teacher. He KNOWS what hes talking about. I took him for Econ 1. He teaches at a fast pace so if you are falling behind, make sure to ask for help or it will get worse. Show up for lectures and study the workbook to pass the test.DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT AN EASY A, you must study hard for an A.
Great professor! Do take his class; you wouldn?t regret it even if Econ were not your major. He is one the best.
Aksoy is such a great guy. He's funny and outgoing, and class is never a bore. The tests are mostly on the notes in class with a little bit from the books. As long as you actually show up and give the man the attention and effort he deserves, you'll succeed. I would recommend taking any one of Aksoy's Econ. classes; he's awesome!
I've taken Aksoy twice, even though economics makes my skin itch. He is a great human and a great teacher. Good lectures. He finds a gold lining in almost everything. He gets frustrated with classes that don't invest time outside of class. Read the book! Yes, it's a little boring. There are no ninjas or gunfights. Don't miss this teacher.
He is a good teacher, but he is super hard. He is a harsh grader on the Extra credit! I did not like his teaching cuz I did not understand much because of his accent. Do not take him unless you truly LOVE econ as much as he does if not you will struggle in his class.
Interesting lectures but unfortunately they don't have anything to do with the tests. It's a self study class so you have to read the chapters on your own in order to be prepared for the tests. I had to drop the class because of this as I had other classes and worked part-time.
I really enjoyed Dr. Aksoy. His class requires you to work, you must read the chapters in the textbook, but he is very knowledgeable, passionate and makes each lecture and lesson interesting and tangible. He's a teacher that helps you to think for yourself and learn the subject. I highly recommend taking with Dr. Aksoy
5 STAR teacher. His classes are full with humor and life examples. He helps with every question during office hours. Homework and extra credits were very easy for me. Take good notes, aprox 95% of test questions are there. If you cannot write the entire sentence just write main phrases and read book with study guide. Got an A.
He's a great professor and econ is a tough subject but he's makes it really fun and you find yourself loving econ by the end of the semester.
An awesome teacher with capital letter. Very caring, knowledgeable, knows his materials, will offer help all the time.I loved being in his class and recommend everyone to take his class. thank you very much Dr. Aksoy for being a great person and friendly teacher....
Very helpful, very thorough. Be prepared to go to his lectures and study from the book, you have to earn your grade. He has a great attitude and is always willing to help. Only for serious economists. Absence isn't frowned upon but you need to be there to get the most out of his class. Recommended to all serious students.
He is one of the greatest professors at LAVC. I took Econ1 and Econ2 with him, and it was fun. Not an easy A or B, you need to earn it. A lot of material to read (nothing due on internet)and study, attend in the class, and you will pass the course. No surprises on the exams, he gives you only what he covered in lectures. It's real fun guys take him
He is arguably the best prof. I've ever had; he is supremely competent, which allows you to respect him easily. He's fair, def not a pushover & you have to work for the A, which is certainly a given anywhere. But his lectures are very easy to follow & his humor really helps you forget that you're in class at 8 am. You will regret NOT taking him.
Dr. Aksoy is no doubt the best Econ professor at Valley. He makes economics fun and interesting. Highly recommended if you want to learn about one of the hardest subjects around. Thank you Dr. Aksoy.
Not an easy class/subject. If you want a good grade you have to work really hard - take notes in class, read the book and do study guide; and make sure you understand the subject, some questions on the test (multiple choice) could be tricky, some plain logic.he is nice, and he knows what hes talking about, but doesn't always explain in simple words
The BEST professor at LAVC! Even though I did not excel in his class, it didn't stop me from taking more courses with him. He is very intelligent, knows so much about the subject and does a lot for his students to do well. The only thing that I regret is not studying as hard as I could in order to earn an A, but it was a pleasure to be in his class
Dr. Aksoy is possibly LAVC's best professor! You cannot expect to do well in a subject like Economics without putting in the required work. He is amazing and very well informed about the world and definitely brings it into his class. Absolutely recommend this class if you really want to learn Economics.
Dr. Aksoy is one of the best professors I have come across. Very funny man and knows what he's talking about, after all he has a PhD. He goes a little fast during his lectures but he tells you what he'll be putting in his test and what you should study. with that being said GET THE TEXT BOOK AND STUDY GUIDE, they'll really help you.
His lectures are interesting but will not help you on the test at all. Everything you need to pass this class - study hard and read the book. Also, at the end of the class he can give the quiz- so be ready for certain quiz or HW. I will not recommend him!!!!
The class is tough, he can go through lectures pretty fast most times. But he is a great professor, and he really does have a good sense of humor. I struggled in this class, but I still enjoyed it. It is hard to get a good grade, but he uses the curve, and that really helps!!! If you want an easy A its not here. Buy the book and studyguide ASAP!
The things he lectures on are not what is only going to be on the test. You can fail all the tests basically and still pass with a C because of his curve. Do not recommend if you want to learn economics or even an easy grade. But his class assignments or what he calls quizzes are usually take home, he's very nice tho and gives help when asked.
Dr Aksoy makes Economics interesting and relevant ..... He is inspiring, funny and I always looked forward to his lectures. He really cares about his students . I had no previous understanding of Economics so I followed along with the the text book and the study guide and had plenty of questions that I could clarify with him in class.
I'm VERY happy I took Dr. Aksoy! He is extremely intelligent and has a passion for Economics, the subject, and his students. Those who don't pay attention in class do not do well on exams but they really aren't difficult at all. The homework reinforces the lecture, great practice. 3 tests (drops lowest), and a final. I would take him again.
Best lecturer ever
I tried to take this class in the fall but was struggling to understand it and I was barely getting a C. I dropped it and took it in the winter by itself from Dr. Aksoy and I got a B. He made it much easier to understand. I would recommend him for anyone needing to take an economics class. You can't go wrong with Dr. Aksoy.
DR. Aksoy is a very funny and nice teacher. If you need help with certain problems he will take his time to make sure you understand. However, the tests are more difficult than they seem. The class average was 62% ;( This class is nothing like what you may have covered in high school so if you're expecting an easy A, this is not that class.
this professor expects us to know most of whats in the book and memorize all the formulas, if u take him please read book, his lectures are terrible. not adequate.
He is very unclear about what he wants and he does not explain basic things well, his tests are VERY hard and you will have to devote lots of time and effort to learning what he wants and exactly what he wants or else you will not come close to passing the class, your entire grade is basically valued off of the test scores you get
Aksoy definitely makes you work for your grade. He is not an easy A. His examples in the class were nothing compared to what you will see from tests. Tests were semi tough with a lot coming from the book reading. Gives curve to the grades to help adjust to the toughness, so if you devote enough time your grade will not be as bad
This class was SO hard for me. I got an A but I had to WORK FOR IT. He does a great job of explaining, but there's lot to remember. You have to read the book and do the practice exercises + the lectures. He's really nice and tries to help you understand. If you have questions he will take his time to help, but you have to pay attn and participate.
Dr. Aksoy is a very intelligent and excellent professor. That doesn't necessarily mean that his classes are easy either. Good notes are essential to passing the class, as well as reading from the book as well. Extra credit offered throughout the semester and willing to answer any questions. Overall a challenging and interesting class!
Dr. Aksoy is a Brilliant Person - Extremely knowledgeable... This is a pretty difficult class (little homework & classwork) be prepared to read (A lot) the book has extremely long chapters. Dr. Aksoy is so smart "It's hard for him to break it down in Laymans terms" and he gets frustrated w/No Class participation - Cons: Your Teaching yourself
Absolutely horrible. He teaches and rambles about random stories then tests you on things never covered. His lectures are overexplained and extremely dull. He can't teach he just gives life stories but the tests are on time. He doesn't help nor respond to emails asking for help. Random pop quizzes are a thing and so is attendance for the most part.
His lectures can get confusing if you don't read the material prior. Also his tests are pretty tough -- they rarely reflect his lectures. I highly recommend reading the book and study guide for clarification. Not many chances for points -- only 2 tests, a final, and a few pop quizzes/homework. Great guy though, very approachable.
Professor Aksoy's econ1 class is in my opinion good and he is a nice professor, although many students in the class seemed to struggle on the exams. I earned an A in the class and my advise for anyone who is to take Professor Aksoy is to devote time to studying, & memorizing key concepts, most importantly use the study book to prepare for exams!!
Great teacher! Very charismatic and helped me grow as a student. Yes, he is a difficult teacher and will make you work for your grade, but if you show him you're dedicated and diligent in your work he will help you out. I'm seeing comments about how he rambles, but he always covered what we were supposed to know for exams. He's a fun teacher.
I took Econ 1 and 2 as part of my pre requisites for a political science major. Dr. Aksoy made me fall in love with economics. Hes so passionate about the subject and he cares about his students a lot. Hes one of the best professors Ive ever had and miss his classes dearly.
Aksoy is very nice and knowledgeable. He wants you to succeed and gives you the opportunity to ask questions in class, but you have to work for your grade. I'm usually a straight A student and I got high C's on his tests. He rambles in his lectures and the tests focus more on the book material. Read the book and use the study guide and you'll pass
He is a nice, kind and well-respected professor. However, his lectures and his exams are nothing alike and requires you to read the book to understand. His exams are EXTREMELY difficult. Read the book, do the workbook, go on Quizlet and do questions before Exam are my recommendations. 3 exams(drop lowest one) and 1 final. His lectures dont help
Probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. He does not use PowerPoints or any sort of visual guide for his "lectures." His lectures are all over the place and have no structure. His study guides are a joke and don't actually help. When you try to go to his office hours, he's very dismissive and not helpful. Avoid this professor at all cost
He does not have a structure to his lecture but his study guides were very helpful. Literally all you have to do is put all the terms in a google doc & define them and just study those. Show up to class bc sometimes he says "this will be on the test". I never showed up to class & read the book a little. I am a Cs get degrees student
Professor Aksoy is a fun teacher who cares for his students dearly. Pro Tip: His Lectures have NOTHING to do with the Test, it is important to read the textbook for full points. Passed his class and I hope to warn others beforehand. Thanks.
