An amazing professor who commits to his his students. He always makes sure we understand the material before moving forward. Take advantage of his office hours - he is really there to help you whenever needed. Feel free to ask questions - you will always end up understanding his material. Every class I attended was worth it, try not to miss out!
Already a difficult subject and he makes it more difficult than it should be. He cares about his students and will always go out of his way to explain things, but we are tested on material that we don't fully cover in class. 5 homework assignments, 5 quizzes, two midterms (incl. final).
Horrible at explaining concepts. You can tell he knows the material but he just shouldn't be a teacher. When you ask him a question on something he just explained he confuses what he just covered and always makes mistakes. You will learn more from reading the textbook rather than going to class.
He's nice. But he's terrible at explaining stuff. Get ready to do a lot of math. In class he makes it sounds like math isn't that big a deal, but the way he designs his quizzes and exams, learning how to do the math seems to be more important then the economics. 1 midterm, 5 quizzes and homeworks and 1 final exam.
He seems goes really fast sometimes in class, but that's because there is so much content in the book. Tests and homework are not "easy", but talk to him during office hour--hardworking student always gets back what he/she deserves.
He doesn't explain concepts well and teaches fast because there is a lot of material to cover. I aced this class but that's because I taught myself from the textbook.
Dont waste your tuition dollars taking bayrak's class. He reads off power point slides everyday and no one goes to class. It doesn't help that the material is difficult. I had to teach myself out of the book. He would even get confused the few times he tried to show an example and clearly didn't really know that much about his own subject.
Bayrak is very approachable, he wants to help you. His quizzes and tests are semi-difficult so I would recommend studying the examples he gives in lecture and reading the book. Going to class isn't mandatory but doesn't hurt either. I put in decent effort and got a B-. Oh, and am I the only one that thinks he's hot???
Self taught microeconomics. This guy literally reads off the power point provided by the textbook company. He clearly doesn't care at all about teaching because he doesn't event try.
He is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He blows through the material, sometimes covering multiple chapter in 1 day. His graphs are messy and he makes it nearly impossible to take notes. Doesn't explain anything clearly, yet expects us to know complicated concepts that he barely covers. Gives quizzes on different days than he says in class.
The class is pretty difficult, and the teacher doesn't make it particularly interesting either. He explains the simple concepts decently but then does a bunch of math without really explaining and just saying "its just algebra". It's not too hard to get a B- by reading the textbook but on quizzes there are lots of grades in the 20-40% range.
Be ready to teach yourself. Textbook is a must. Exams are pretty difficult and homework assignments are usually due on the same day as exams, so you don't really get a chance to review answers in class before the test. He is knowledgeable, but not too approachable. Flies through the material and expects you to pick it up right away.
5 quizzes, 5 assignments, midterm, and final. He wants you to really understand the core concepts and he goes really fast - there's a lot to cover. He puts a philosophical spin on concepts, which makes it more interesting. You really need to know the concepts well to answer exam questions.
Least helpful teacher that I have ever had. It is essentially self-taught microeconomics. He rushes through the material and doesn't explain the calculations. He is also mean in his emails and clearly doesn't care AT ALL about teaching this class. Whatever you do don't take this class.
Not recommended... He has no energy in teaching; often I found he more reluctant to stay in the classroom than most of us did. Class was super dry, and the materials got more confusing. Better LEARN BY YOURSELF if you ever choose his class.
He teaches very fast, is unclear, and quizzes and tests us on concepts he doesn't cover. To top it off no one can read his writing. When I ask for help during his office hours he is still unhelpful. The TA is very condescending when it comes to asking for help. DO NOT TAKE any class with him
Lecture vs. Quiz vs. Exam weren't very consistent. Lecture slides straight from book. Grades were curved but never revealed curve so grade was a mystery until final grade. Pretty nice guy, but wish he was a better professor. Go to his and TA's office hours so they know your face!
Very helpful, and explains everything clearly and makes sure everyone understand the material. The best Econ professor I had at USC.
Often came across as arrogant and disinterested in students. Not very helpful or approachable. The quizzes are tough and the midterm was brutal, but the final was surprisingly easy.
He is so bad. You can never be well-prepared for the quiz because There are always tricky and uncovered question. You must have a textbook. The grading standard is strange, too. He said he will curve but not curve in the business school way which means 20 percentage will fail, but you will never know how he curves in his own "way".
Yes sometimes he's lacking energy, but that just his personality. He is willing to help and if you ask question and are attentive he is actually a good teacher. The nature of the course is that you have to read along with the lectures. He isn't going to spoon feed you. Very little homework but the homework you do have you need to ace. Study hard!!!
I've been attending classes and doing the reading and it's been going pretty well for me so far. I also went to him with some questions during office hours and he was really helpful. Also seems like a pretty cool guy if that counts for anything!!
I'm taking econ 303 right now and I must say that he is AMAZING. I absolutely love attending lecture and he is the nicest professor at USC. It's a very easy class so long as you attend the lectures.
Ergin's a great guy and his lectures are quite clear and easy to understand. Go to class, take notes, and you'll be just fine.
Great professor, great person. Go to lecture and take notes, you'll be fine. Not much homework either. Would definitely recommend professor Bayrak.
He's a great teacher and is very clear. It is his grading that is more ambiguous. You don't know your grades unless you email him for it. He doesn't share them on blackboard. You don't know his grading scale. His JEP only gave me 1% and he said 5% initially. Once graded, it feels like points have been taken off randomly on the short answers.
He's honestly a great professor. He cares a lot for the students and takes the time to write very thorough emails and rectify any concerns. If you miss picking up a test, you can get it during his office hours. He teaches very clearly and his class is totally doable. If you work hard, you'll be fine.
He's knowledgable in his field and his lectures are super helpful. His tests are very expected, very similar to homework. GO TO THE CLASS and you will learn everything needed for the tests.
He's a pretty decent professor as far as they go in the econ department at USC. His lectures can be kind of boring sometimes. Sometimes the quizzes are very similar to the homework, other times they'll surprise you. Kind of just luck of the draw.
He is a very respectful professor, he made the materials relatively easy for students. He is very intelligent in his specific field and would often provide helpful feedback. Definitely recommended.
One of my favorite Econ professors at USC, and I've taken a bunch of them. He goes quickly through the lectures so don't zone out. Taking good notes will save your life. Super approachable in office hours and will sit with you until you understand. Quiz and midterm questions are really similar to the assignments.
Professor Bayrak is probably the clearest Econ professor I've ever had. Everything makes sense when he teaches because he uses the board a lot for his examples. Class wasn't too bad. Tests/quizzes are just like the homework. He's very helpful in office hours and wants you to succeed. Go to class and office hours when you need it and you'll do well.
Tests and homeworks are straightforward. If you understand them, you'll be fine. He is nice guy overall and doesn't try to trick you. He doesn't like disrespectful students.
he's honestly the man
I was a bit skeptical in the beginning, as he can come across as intimidating. A few people dropped the class after a few lectures because of that. But if you stay you will not regret. First of all, he is absolutely brilliant, and not just within his field, but all around. He is very helpful in addressing your concerns, approachable and patient.
Professor Bayrak is the man. He is very good at explaining difficult topics, and will go through a concept multiple times for the benefit of the class. He is always available out of class, and is somewhat flexible with grades. That being said, his lectures are pretty dry, and it is easy to wander off. Would def take him again. Real nice guy too.
Super smart AND teaches difficult concepts step by step so you understand how to do them. His exams mirror his lectures so as long as you pay close attention, it's pretty hard to get below a B in his class. You only get 4 HWs, midterm, and a final (all doable if you paid attention in class) so not a lot of busy work either.
A rare combination of a professor who is smart and teaches in a crystal clear manner for students to understand. His homework and exams mirror his lectures, so go to his lectures! The only downside I can think of is that his lectures can be a bit dry, but he's more than happy to answer questions. Don't be intimidated by him, he's a cool guy :)
This class is too easy. I thought this was an intro to econ course more than an intermediate course. Basically, it is the intro course with numbers. No new concepts just old concepts and now you solve algebraic equations. Professor Bayrak is awesome, but his lectures do make you fall asleep.
Bayrak is a great professor and really makes the subject clear and accessible. He comes off intimidating at first but is very approachable and really willing to go over problems. Homework assignments and quizzes are very straightforward-- similar to problems he has done in class with no surprises.
Bayrak is great. The class is definitely fast-paced and difficult material, but he makes it very digestible. Tests/quizzes arent difficult content wise but he does design them so that youre pressed for time. Does a really good job preparing students for tests. If you dont go to lecture, youre going to have a lot of trouble
Got a B+ with minimal effort if you aren't lazy easy A. Lectures are boring, but if u actually listen ull get an b/c you just have to memorize the way he does the problems in class and you're guaranteed an A-. No tricks like Math classes.
Bayrak is the best prof I've had in the econ department! He's an incredibly clear lecturer and his homework and tests are a fair representation of what he's taught you. Very accessible in office hours and isn't condescending or unnecessarily difficult, just very straightforward and will answer any question you have. Highly highly recommend for 303!
Pretty easy class never read the textbook as long as you go to class and pay attention you'll get a good grade he is very clear about expectations and homework mirrors quizzes and tests.
I do think this is a hard class because the lecture contained examples outside of the powerpoint and textbook. Might need to review materials before going to his class. HW is slightly different from the lecture examples and ask " GOOD " questions from him otherwise he will think you are not paying attention on him during class.
He is one of the best professors in the Econ department and he really cares about his students. The class is difficult but he is really clear about what he expects you to do and is amazing in making the material understandable.
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't show up and take good notes you will have a really hard time on the homework, quizzes, and the tests. Study homework and quizzes for the midterm and final. Exams aren't super difficult but you have to work really fast. No need to purchase the book because he posts all relevant pages to his website.
Probably the best professor I have had at USC. He answers any and all questions asked with no beating around the bush. He engages the class in lecture so they are not boring. He is charming and very knowledgable. He is also very willing to take feedback and available outside of class. I wish more professors were this effective. USC is lucky!
His class is very fast-paced. No break during the whole 2 hours lecture. You have to really pay attention on everything he said cuz he teaches a lot that is not from the power point. Definitely not a easy class. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
This class basically just tests how fast you can take tests. He intentionally restricts your time to a ridiculous rate for no reason. The grading from TA's on tests/assignments was ridiculous at times and he won't listen to grading petitions. You can fully understand the material and still do poorly. Def don't take!
There's something seriously wrong with the grading in this class. There is a fundemental problem with this class, we should not be getting emails saying the TA's messed up the grading of the midterm and every single midterm has to be collected and regraded. The grading is way too harsh and forced so many people to completely drop the class. AVOID!
The professor gives great lectures but at a very fast pace. Quizzes, midterms, and finals are very long and most of the time you won't be able to go over them. The problem with this class is the grading criteria. If you miss one little thing, you will get points taken off. Mistakes don't carry over; if you made a calculation mistake, it's all wrong
He knows what he is talking about. However, the class goes very fast and he is very intimidating. It's hard to ask him question and to access to him outside of class. He isn't too patient with students. His tests are unnecessarily fast-paced and he grades harshly, you never know what he wants you to write on the assignments and quizzes.
The professor is kind, but also strict at the same time. He makes a good lecture but there are many hard materials to understand. What makes his course had is the grading criteria. It is tough to follow up all the materials and write good answers for the quizzes and mid/final. Just simple error or misunderstanding of concept will deduct the point.
Bayrak is the one of the best professors I've had at USC. His lectures are engaging, thorough without being repetitive, and clear. He's great at explaining concepts and is always eager to help students during office hours. He helped me deal with a medical emergency during my final and was very straightforward and kind about everything. 10/10.
Prof. Bayrak may seem intimidating at first, but he is one of the best professors in the ECON department. Pay close attention to what he teaches you because it will be crucial for upper division classes.
He usually doesn't give you a lot of time during his quizzes, you have to move fast and there is no time for you to review the question, which is stressful. His lectures are usually straight forward. But I would not recommend him for the stressful quiz experience
One of the most monotone and quiet lecturers I've ever had, who also becomes irate if you ask him to repeat a point he mumbled. His lectures are extremely relevant to the assignments, but good luck if you missed a single point because you won't be able to learn it from the book. Also grades very harshly, basically all or nothing for FRQ. Good luck.
tests are really difficult, especially with the time constraint
Dr. Bayrak is a great professor, he explains concepts very well but sometimes leaves out random stuff that you have to dig through the textbook in order to do the assignments. He keeps the reading/random work load low, but quizzes and tests are very hard. Be ready for a face-paced, mature class with a prof that doesn't tolerate any disruptions
His lectures are extremely boring and dry. Additionally quizzes, assignments, and tests are extremely difficult. There is no clear grading criteria either and points are knocked off mercilessly. Overall one of the hardest classes I've ever had to take. I do not recommend.
Class wasn't too hard. Tests and quizzes aren't too hard, but you do not get nearly enough time. Class got easier once it shifted to online. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will need the info from lectures to complete assignments/quizzes because it's not in the textbook. Solid choice for ECON 303.
Solid class. Just make sure that you fully understand how to do the homework questions, because the exams/the final are very similar. The class was super fair and, while the exams weren't easy by any means, they weren't crazy hard or impossible to finish like others have claimed. Attendance isn't mandatory but you really should go.
He was the first econ prof at USC that I actually learned from. First homework and exam seemed difficult but he explained the solutions and it was so simple so I just made sure to go to TA before every next exam. That was helpful. Material is quite simple and he is good at real life applications of material which helps greatly in understanding.
Professor Bayrak is the most fair out of all the professors that teach this course. Hes not really boring but also his lectures arent the most fun, but given the material he does a good job. You should have a good foundation in math for this course or youll find it quite difficult.
Take this class if you really want to learn micro, he's an incredible professor. A good amount of math but he explains exactly why things are the way they are. Cares a lot about all his students.
Lectures are a little dry, moved a little slow for my taste, and fairly math heavy, but Prof. Bayrak is a really nice professor and really accessible for extra questions. The homeworks are very doable if you work with other people, and his tests are fine if you understand the homework, just difficult to complete in time.
Ergin Bayrak has fast-paced lectures, and I frequently needed to go to office hours and rewatch lectures to make sure I understood all the material. The class has 4 HWs and a midterm and a final worth 35%, so you have to do well on everything to get an A. The assessments are fair in terms of material, but it can be hard to finish in only 2 hours.
If you go to all the lectures or at least don't miss too many you'll do fine, he does lecture quickly and if you don't ask questions you're gonna get confused later down the line so ASK QUESTIONS. But he's one of the best Econ professors for how well he teaches. The assignments are hard so don't do it in one day, space it out, make a study group.
One of my favorite classes at USC. His lectures are very clear and packed with materials. If you check your phone during class you'll miss a lot of information when you look back up. You have to work hard for his class but you learn so much. His test are straightforward and easy if you study.
after taking other econ professor, I realized how good he was. Exams are like assignments. Assignments are like examples covered in class. Go to his lectures and understand everything. you will be good
Overall, a very kind professor and you will learn a lot. If you have a strong aptitude for math, the class should be easier. My b+ last Spring was the only non-A grade have ever received at SC. However, I could not speak more highly of Dr. Bayrak. I still use the frameworks he taught me and he was always understanding and accommodating.
A lot harder than 203/205 but manageable. Go to every lecture and actually pay attention in class!!! I'd recommend TA office hours for questions, he didn't answer mine too well. He seems intimidating but is not that bad. Tests are almost exactly like the assignments. You don't need the textbook tbh
Professor Bayrak was a very good professor who explained the topics within the course quite well. I would definitely take him again. The class itself is very difficult but is a core requirement for economics so I would highly recommend taking it with Professor Bayrak.
Prof. Bayrak may work for some, but did NOT work for me. I found it incredibly frustrating that exams were nothing like assignments or review sessions.
For me, prof. Bayrak is good at explaining economic concepts and making them easy to understand. Although attendance isn't mandatory, lectures are too important to miss. Heavy lectures but little HM. Just four big assignments, a midterm, and a final consist of the final grade. The course isn't easy so be careful not to fail any of them.
Prof. Bayrak is a super solid professor. If you apply yourself and are actually interested in economics (even if only a little), he is the professor to take. Goes into depth on topics and makes everything very easily understood. Highly recommend. Tests are difficult but doable.
He's very chill, reachable, and has great knowledge of econ so you will learn a lot. The lectures are heavy, but he explains concepts easier to understand. Don't need to read textbook but lectures are super helpful and slides are sometimes needed for assignment. Tests are similar to assignments but it's not easy A class. You need to work hard.
Prof Bayrak is one of the best econ prof u can get in sc. Super chill and solid teaching style. I was worried that he might be mean because of his poker face but he's very responsible and open to questions in OH and class. Lectures are very important, 4HWs 1 midterm 1 final, all look similar and strongly tied to class content. No need for Textbook
Prof. Bayrak is hands down the BEST lecturer in the Econ department I've had so far. Lectures are clear and concise, and he spends time going over areas where students are liable to make mistakes or not understand the course material. You don't even need the textbook (like not at all; he posts slides that summarize all of the necessary material).
Definitely has a poker face, but don't be intimidated. Bayerk is a clear and communicative prof. He has a such a good flow moving from topic to topic that not only gives you a strong understanding of the subject, but also keeps the lecture interesting. If you're struggling, reach out, he wants his students to succeed!
303 is math-heavy, and Professor Bayrak goes in-depth; exams are brutal and require you to really understand the "why". Lectures are super dense, but he's open to questions and even has his own office hours; he goes over HW solutions as well. He looks intimidating, but he's really nice and approachable- one of the best profs in the econ dept.
One of the best professors in the department in terms of lecturing, but grading is excessively harsh. He seems to take pride in not giving points back, and does not abide by the grading policies he professes to follow (error-carried-forward is not a thing in this class, no matter what he says)
Professor Bayrak is the BEST! He truly tells you how to understand the knowledge, not just to remember them. Clear lectures and assignments. If you want an A, spend times and work hard.
Good professor, probably the best lecturer I've had in the Econ department, the only problem was that he straight up lies about what's on the exams. Before the final he said it was going be 30% first half material and 70% second half, but it was more like 75% first half and 25% second half and he said 15% on MU/MUx but it was more like 50%
great professor, very kind and approachable. But the class material is hard, and it takes a lot of efforts to do well on exams. overall good experience.
Be prepared to work hard, study, and take notes in class. Lectures are very important, so skipping them will lead you to failure. There were 1 midterm, 1 final, and 3 homework assignments (start early!!!). Getting an A is not impossible but you need to work very hard, go to office hours, listen carefully in class, review outside of class, etc.
Bayrak is amazing. This class is certainly dense and requires diligence to perform well. Bayrak is accessible outside of class (has own office hours + stays after class to answer questions). He wants his students to understand fundamental concepts, not just memorize processes. Put in time + effort, go to class, communicate with prof.
Bayrak's lecture is clearly organized. His homework are inspirational and helps you to review and prepare for the test. He does not try to be mean on his students. Tests and HWs are always fair enough, they just solely test if you have a clear understanding of microeconomics. I strongly encourage you to take his 303.
I have PTSD from this class, I legitimately cried during two of the exams. Exam ssimilar to problem sets in terms of long answer questions but the short answer questions are a free for all. this class I felt was way harder than macro. bayrak is super intimidating although really nice if you muster up the courage to speak to him one on one
Bayrak seems obsessed with proving students wrong and makes tests unfairly hard. Ambiguous questions are designed to trick you, not teach you. Wants you to fail by taking points off for the slightest wording error. Everyone thinks he's great, but he rushes through lectures and humiliates you if you ask for clarification. Take him at your own risk!
Very few assignments, no online resources, and very harsh grader. Pretty much can't miss any lectures, or you will be very behind. In my opinion, the worst professor I've had at USC.
This class is challenging, but extremely rewarding. Bayrak is the best lecturer in the entire econ department, and he truly wants all students to succeed. His lectures are extremely essential, so show up to class or watch the recordings on blackboard. The exams are very straightforward with practice, the hardest part is managing your time.
I would highly recommend taking Professor Bayrak's class. Lectures are dense, but he is by far one of the best lectures in the econ department. Lectures include everything you need to know in the class. Overall graded by three assignments, which are long so I recommend starting early. The assignments do help with studying for exams.
I took Bayrak's ECON 303 for Spring 2024, and this is genuinely a hard class. If you are taking this class, do not skip lectures because you will not do well in the exams at all. He gives you what you need for the exams, but skims over a lot of topics that should've been covered in-depth, and his pace is a little too fast.
class pace is fast, and it's test-heavy, so it's easy to run out of time if you don't keep up. However, the tests are similar to the homework assignments, so focusing on those to understand the class material. Make sure to keep up with the work and don't hesitate to ask questions The professor is very approachable
3.9 GPA here. I shouldn't have trusted any of the positive reviews (looks at the thumbs ups & downs). Bayrak's ego is as big as the expanding universe. He pretentiously lectures fast and has no concern if the class is following. His exams are intentionally tricky and extensive. Wish he was more empathetic because it'd enhance our learning. AVOID.
Difficult class if you're not good at math and have economics experience. Hard to recommend Bayrak because whilst he lectures and explains topics well, he shares no resources to help practice for exams, and you are basically left to notes you take from lectures, his slides, and some problem sets given as homework. Take other profs if new to econ
Exams are a real letdown; 80 minutes filled with so many questions that no one finished on time. When he reviewed the exam, instead of addressing our concerns about the time constraint, he dismissed us with a belittling smug comment about how he reviewed it in 40 minutes while handily reading off solutions. We all quietly smirked at his ignorance.
Horrible teacher; full of himself is an understatement. Lectures fast, snarky comments, etc. Take another professor if you can.
It's all true, he lectures too fast, pretty full of himself, and his exams are ridiculously difficult. I wish I could go back in-time and pick another prof.
Please please please take another professor for 303. Bayrak doesn't provide enough resources for you to understand the topics. His lectures aren't clear and if you want to do well on the test, you need to self study a lot outside of class just to understand what should've been made clearer in lecture. He also goes insanely fast in lecture.
Hardest prof, midterm is horrifically hard and uncurved
Bayrak is wants his ego to be stroked every class. He doesn't care if the class is following. It feels like he wants people to struggle more than learn and he rlly stressed students all throughout the semester especially with short deadlines and exams overly difficult. Don't trust any of the positive reviews he has because it's all misleading.
Had a different experience taking this class. Lack of resources online to be accessed but he honestly explains things well enough that its intuitive. I am a straight As student whos highest running % is in this class because honestly if you just read the textbook and go through the slides everything is kinda intuitive.
Poor and rigid professor. He often deviates from the textbook while lecturing. His assigns homework once a month which makes students from properly absorbing, while his exams are packed with an overwhelming number of questions, making it nearly impossible to finish within the limited time. Also Ergin also has a bad temper. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
He's a good lecturer, but that's about it. Doesn't give revision resources or access to like any practice stuff. Make sure you go to class and squeeze out every little resource he gives you to practice. Very doable A if you aren't lazy
Just like most people said, fast phase teaching, few course materials, less homework and heavy test. All these elements build up an extremely awful feeling of taking his class.
this class is def hard. exam content can be unclear as theres no study guide. but he told us like 50 times that in class questions will be on tests (which is true lol). no curve, so youll have to grind for an a. pretty good teacher and explains econ concepts well. took this for minor so not sure how he is against other profs, but id take him again.
Professor Bayrak is considerate of his students and covers content at a good pace. He has clear expectations for the midterm and final which he explains very clearly before the tests. His tests aren't too difficult. This class has three assignments and one extra credit assignment. OH with the Prof is helpful, but the OH with the TA was not.
Professor Bayrak's class is challenging but rewarding. If you engage with the material and attend lectures, he values your effort. He's not one to give out free points, but his care for his students is evident. Don't take his class for an easy A—take it to truly learn and grow.
Bayrak's class moves fast, so staying on top of the work is key. The exams are tough, but doing the assignments and using resources like unstuckstudy can help you prepare. Attend lectures - he explains things clearly, even if the pace is intense.
Bayrak is great, recommended for any ECON class. Content is easier than other 303 professors, although it may be because he explains it well. Highly recommend because of no nonsense style of covering content efficiently.
He doesn't give any material to prepare for midterm or final (only homework) If you ask any question about the course material, he will ask you to watch the recordings. Very arrogant. My worst nightmare. Once again, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS
He feeds off of fear. SO hard to study for the exams, all the questions on the slides weren't remotely close to the questions on the exams, and your whole grade is based on 4 assignments, one midterm and final. Not the best lecturer, he talks in a very monotonous tone and is so fast like are you the flash sir Dont take him...
this class is HARD but bayrak is AMAZING one of the best in econ department. very difficult but rewarding. if you go to lectures, pay attention, and STUDY like your life depends on it, you can get an A. cannot skip class or slack off if you want to do well. 1 midterm & final + hw. i don't understand these reviews the exams are same format as the hw
25% of the grade is midterm and 35% is final. For exams, there are a lot of questions and little time, so you must work quick. Attendance is not mandatory but he will tell you in class good practice questions and problem sets are excellent practices for exams. He is very good at answering questions and explaining content. Go to his office hours!
Very fast lectures jam packed with practice for homework and exams. A bit arrogant but he is very smart. Explains concepts well, OH are helpful and cares about his students. Expects a lot from his students so we're pushed to learn; redo lecture problems and homework sets 3x to study for exams and really understand the concepts and you'll be fine!
Hard class in general . Tough. Great guy tho.
Hard class mostly due to its pace both in lectures and on exams but totally possible to do well if you actually devote the time. He can be a bit intimidating but he's a nice guy and cares. And definitely knows what he's talking about.
Very difficult, not the nicest guy
Class is doable if you know all the concepts on the assignments very well as well as go to class since he talks about specific questions that will be on exams, but you have to dedicate a chunk of your time if you want an A (DONT WAIT LAST 2 DAYS BEFORE EXAM TO LEARN ALL CONTENT, NOT DOABLE)
Bayrak is knowledgeable, but his class is no joke. Zero curve, four homework assingments, one midterm, and one final. Tests are difficult, but the long questions at the end of the exam are exactly from homeworks. If you do exceptionally well on the homeworks, you have a good cusion going into exams. HWs are worth 40%. TA was okay.
Very smart guy. The course was extremely difficult but the professor is extremely good at teaching. You will have to work your butt off for a decent grade.
Don't be scared by the other ratings. I didn't go to lecture but he records them and posts slides. As long as you know the concepts you will be fine. Midterm and final were literally just like the problem sets. Do them over and over again and understanding basic micro concepts. Also problem sets are worth a lot so its a good buffer.
ECON 303 is challenging, but Prof. Bayrak makes the material very straightforward. Exams are time-crunched, but manageable with practice. He works through numerical problems in lecture that closely match exams and assignments, so attending class is important. He is also very accessible and genuinely cares about his students' success.
