Intro. to Meteorology ATMS 1050
Great Teacher. very interesting!
Class is stupid. The test are difficult-He also made us buy a completely useless book for two assignments. It takes forever to get grades back.
It is a pretty easy class as long as you attend lectures and keep up to date on material.
Eric is a cool guy!.. local celeb!... class is interesting if your curious about the weather... not the easiet class but if you just go to class and take decent notes you should get an A
Very handsome. Not very tall
Funny teacher. If you go to class you will have no trouble getting an A or B. Don't by the case studies book, you will never use it. Waste of 45$
Pretty funny. Go to class and take notes on the small things he says. Make sure you do the readings in the book because a lot of test questions come from that.
He is a good guy, you do have to go to class or you will not get all of the notes, also reading is nessissary, read before you take quizes!!
at least he tries... but I didn't like this class. His tests were terribly written and he doesn't seem to know what's on his tests, don't bother paying attention during review because most likely 50% of it won't appear on the test. Make sure to read the book, and even do your own research on the topics outside of the text
I love Professor Aldrich! He's really a funny guy and the class is as easy as you make it. He gives easy assignments and quizzes to boost ur grade so its practically impossible to fail! Attendance isn't mandatory, but sometimes he has attendance quizzes and he'll give extra credit points.
For a one thousand level class, this was much too difficult. Quiz and test questions did not reflect the level of instruction in class or the textbook. I'm a journalism major who took the class thinking it would be a relevant, easy way to fulfill my science requirement. I hated this class and it brought down my near perfect GPA.
Intro to Meteorology is a joke. The class is him doing a slide show but he never actually knows what are on his own tests. Only half of his study guides are correct and although the material he teaches is simple, it is a nightmare trying to scramble through the junk he says and the junk the book throws at you to find what is actually important.
This really shouldnt be a hard class but Eric makes it difficult. Do not think it is an easy class.
The class is decently hard. The quizzes are online so you have the abilities to look up the answers. Tests are difficult because you don't exactly know what he wants you to study. He gives study guides but half of what is on the guide is not covered on the test.
I made this class harder just because it was easy not to go to class since most of the notes are on-line. To make it easier I suggest going. I agree you're not always sure what will be on the tests so you have to study a lot more than you think. Not too bad though.
He is a good teacher but my grade did not reflect that. He even says he makes hard tests. I suggest Googling quiz answers when you do the online quizzes because some will take you to online sites that have test questions & answers. Know the study guide really well.
All lecture powerpoints available online. Quizzes can be completed with just those notes. Book was opened once and still received A's and B's on tests. Follow study guides given but still look over all notes, not everything is laid out to you he wants you to apply what you learned
The class itself is huge and Eric does a really good job of holding your attention. Attendance is not mandatory and everything you need to know is on blackboard or in the book. Eric himself or the TA's are always looking to help you and will spend as much time as you need to understand the material. WOULD RECOMMEND, EASY A!
Overall it isn't too hard. I'm a meteorology major, so I found the material more interesting than most people. Opened the book one time. Really isn't that necessary. Test's are kinda tricky, do the study guide. He wants you to "apply" your knowledge so some questions are dumb.
AWESOME TEACHER! his presentations go exact with test so def attend class. keeps you interested. test can be somewhat challenging, but studying one night will probably get you an A. homework and quizzes are a piece of cake. looking for an easy science class, TAKE THIS!!!
AWESOME TEACHER! he does a great job teaching and keeping your attention. does not have a final. only 4 tests. quizzes and homework are online and they are soo easy. does use a clicker. highly recommend this class if you are looking for an easy science class!!
Very cool teacher, probably one of my favorites! Tests were based off of lectures and reading so make sure you study both! Take advantage of his office hours! He gives you bonus points for asking for help! Attendence is important bc he uses the iClicker to ask questions during class and a huge chunk of your points come from it!
He is a pretty good teacher but there is a lot of information for such a basic class. You don't get full i clicker points unless you study online which is irritating. He pulls info from the book and his notes for tests
Class is not always enjoyable but it is recommended you attend because he uses iClicker and a lot of points come from that. Office hours are a must, especially before a test because the TA hold awesome review sessions which they have the test right in front of them. Tests seem basic for the amount of information he gives, but still A achievable.
Eric is the bomb. As an atmospheric sciences student I loved his class, it was very basic for me but I understand not all the concepts are something other people will get right off the bat. He's funny, keeps class interesting, and will help those who don't understand something. He is very forward about the class and there are not tricks. I loved it
Great, very knowledgable professor! He's really passionate about the weather and you can tell he enjoys coming and teaching class. iClicker is used fairly regularly and is a decent chunk of your grade. He had us by the online textbook but I never used it once. Straightforward multiple choice tests, final was not cumulative.
He is a great professor! I learned a lot in in class. If you attend ALL classes, you will do just fine. Besides, his classes are actually fun to attend! He has some great stories to tell. My only other advice is to not get the textbook, since we never used it. Great teacher, great class, you can't ask for anything better!
I was really excited for this class but it got pretty hard in the end. I thought the tests were unreasonably hard, there was no way to know all the answers. But the information is interesting and fun to learn.
Definitely not a throw-away class. If you study hard and work hard, you will do fine in the class.
Funny Guy, Easy set up class, makes it simple for the students, and the exams are very fair.
aldrich is a great guy. you will need to study for the tests, but there are other points to help you out. all in all an enjoyable class
Aldrich is hilarious and you will actually want to go to lecture. 2nd test is kinda tough but nothing unbearable.
First, go to class. Trust me it will make your life easier come exam time & attendance points are huge! But, the class is pretty great. Eric is actually hilarious, and he makes weather interesting! Quizzeshmwk are basically free points, but exams are harder than you'd expect. Not an easy A, but with a bit of effort you'll walk away happy.
Professor Aldrich has been one of my favorite professors at Mizzou. He really breaks down the lectures so everyone can understand what he's talking about. He's also really funny, and tells a lot of funny stories throughout his lectures. But the class is pretty easy, just take good notes and study for the exams and you'll do fine!
He was very fun to listen to in lectures. Tests were not exactly an easy A, but with time put in to studying you will do well. Homework and quiz grades help overall grade a lot. Very helpful during office hours. You can tell he cares about his students and loves to teach.
Eric a great guy! He loves what he does, and it clearly reflects in his teaching. He cares about all of his students, and he wants everyone to be successful. I learned a lot of practical knowledge from his class. My favorite professor at MU by far.
Professor Aldrich is great!! He is so helpful and his lectures are interesting and easy to understand. GO TO OFFICE HOURS BEFORE TESTS. He will help you out and possibly give you extra credit. There are iclicker questions but not every class. Online assignments are super easy. Tests are easy if you spend some time studying! Overall great teacher!
By far one of my favorite professors that I've had thus far. There are Iclicker questions in the majority of questions but participation is the majority and the questions are usually easy. The exams are doable if you're going to lectures (which are actually fun), and EC is sometimes offered when attendance is low. Definitely a great professor!
Eric was a great professor who made class fun and interesting. Highly recommend the class, and would take it again for sure.
He's such a nice and funny guy! For sure my favorite professor. He used to be a weatherman, so his lectures are like listening to weather reports. He gives such clear and accurate lectures and the tests are mostly easy. Just make sure you check the syllabus regularly and you'll do great.
He's a good instructor and teaches like he enjoys meteorology which is always a bonus. It pays to go to class, participation points can help or hurt your grade. As long as you keep up and complete the study guides the exams shouldn't be too complex.
This class was hard for me because science is not my strong suit. Eric is a great, funny guy though who has made our entire lecture hall laugh out loud many times. I would suggest always going to class because of clicker points, studying to the best of your ability, and utilizing office hours a lot. He is very passionate, be ready to work though!
Professor Aldrich really tries to make lectures entertaining, and most of the time succeeds, but sometimes the material can get a little dry. He is very good about answering in class questions despite the large class size and it was over all an enjoyable class. Lots of clicker points and you can't opt out of purchasing the ebook, however.
Professor Aldrich is a great person and very entertaining at times. His class was fairly easy but the material was boring. You must attend class in order to get clicker points and to fill in the blanks on his ppt slides. Be sure to review these before exams and you'll do well. I never looked at the ebook and passed with an A-.
Eric is a very personable, funny, knowledgable professor. His analogies are odd at times, but they somehow make sense. I liked having professor that shared some of his personal life with his students.
I absolutely loved this class. Aldrich is a great guy. His lectures are clear & his tests are based off of his lectures. Would def take again.
If you go to class, you will be better off. He gives out some great lectures and has hilarious stories about his time at KOMU TV when he was a meteorologist. Exam 2 is tricky, but you can go to his office hours and he will help you a TON. Textbook was optional, and overall great class.
Professor Aldrich is amazing! I loved his class. He's very funny and makes the material understandable. His stories are great and I highly recommend the class. The 2nd Exam was the hardest, but don't give up. Do the Homework, Chapter Assessments, and Quizzes and you will be fine.
Professor Aldrich is funny, to the point, and always there to help (if you ask). If you show up and pay attention you'll have no problem.
What is not to like about this guy. He's hilarious, tells great stories, occasionally lets out early especially when weather is nice. He's extremely approachable, cares about the students. Tests aren't bad, solid guy.
Subject isn't super interesting, but he clearly knows a lot about it and has a passion for it. Lets out class early daily, gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Tests are somewhat difficult; you should read the textbook and study the PowerPoints to do well, but if you come to class & get the extra credit, you don't need to study too hard.
Great teacher, i took this for science credit and it was a great choice. I studied and went to class, but if you do that you will get an A. Him and his staff have helpful reviews i recommend going to before tests.
Professor Aldrich teaches the ins and outs of meteorology in a pretty captivating way. His lectures are large, therefore, students on their computers, etc. can be distracting. Attend class to get easy REEF points and sort out any issues you might have with that early. His tests are definitely challenging. Use quizlet, office hours and study guides.
Eric is a great guy who makes the lectures very interesting and funny. If you have any interest in weather I suggest taking this class!
If you show up to class and participate, he'll generously round up your grade if you ask for it. He often gives EC for answering questions in class too.
Goofy.
Very interesting class. Professor Aldrich is very funny and wants his students to succeed. It helps a lot to reach the textbook but you could most likely get by without. I definitely recommend taking this class if it is for a needed credit.
Aldrich is very funny and caring. His class is note-heavy and not necessarily an easy A, but with a proper amount of studying before the exams and attendance for notes and REEF questions, it shouldn't be hard to get a good grade in the class. Aldrich makes it interesting with his humor and stories connecting to the subject in class.
Eric was an enjoyable teacher, he is very enthusiastic about meteorology which made the lectures fun. He gave extra credit two times during the semester. all you had to do was show up for class on that day but he didn't tell you the day. the class was not super easy but it wasn't super hard either.
Aldrich is really passionate about what he does, he used to be the weatherman for Columbia! Even though I'm not very interested in meteorology, I looked forward to going to class. Take notes & study a little and you will be golden.
Aldrich is an amazing professor who knows what he is talking about. You will have to go to class because he does clicker questions. The tests are hard if you don't study, but I got a D and C on two of them and still have a B+. Their are two major projects, but I completed them both in under an hour and got an 100% on both. VERY funny!
Aldrich is the best teacher that I have had so far! While there are a few projects, he is so funny that every class flies bye! He brings in his daughters occasionally and has extra credit throughout the semester. Great guy who never failed to make me laugh!
Nicest and most understanding professor ever. Two easy projects and open-note online quizzes. Tests are decently hard and weighted heavily. He holds reviews where he pretty much gives out answers. Gives random extra credit points if you show up to class. Always wants to help students improve their grades. Go to class and study for tests to do well!
Aldrich is the best professor I have had so far. I had to take ATM1050 for my major and I was not looking forward to it, but I ended up actually loving it. Easy if you study for the exams and come to class. Notes are really important because he gives extra credit. Dude is super passionate about what he's teaching which makes it much more enjoyable
Great teacher, I loved him for all of the classes I have taken. He wants you to suceed but requires the least amount of effort, like seriously you have to try to fail his classes. He is a wonderful resource for anything Meteorology and also has the most interesting lectures. Highly recommend
do NOT take this class. It's so difficult. I'm a straight A student, and I got a B in his class. The lectures are elementary level science, and the exams are at a college level-- soo hard. I went to every review session and studied for hours, and still ended up with a B. he is nice, but the class SUCKS. do NOT take. it's not worth it.
Material isn't super hard if you are willing to study, but don't take this class with him. My iclicker worked all year and right after i took his final, he told me he did not ever receive any of my answers even though it worked for me and i never skipped class. He ended up failing me which nearly cost me my college education. Do not take his class.
Eric is hilarious. You probably don't need to go to lecture every time but you will because he makes it entertaining. Test will be word for word out of the powerpoint. Gives a lot of extra credit for just showing up to class.
Prof Aldrich is the best professor I have had so far. If you have the chance to take one of his courses... DO IT
The BEST professor I've had in my entire lifetime. He made me want to come to his class. There are quizzes after each chapter but can be found on notes/book/quizlet. I recommend going to every class especially right after tests b/c he gives extra credit to those who showed up. He was flexible with the pandemic and posted lectures on canvas.
AMAZING guy and teacher. So passionate about the subject and it doesn't matter how little you care about weather, he makes it fun. If you can, take this class FORSURE! don't buy the textbook btw
Professor Aldrich is an amazing guy. He is very passionate about the weather, and you can tell he loves what he does during lectures. iClicker questions during class so attendance is mandatory most of the time unless you're okay with missing points for those. Some quiz and test questions come from the textbook. I loved him and this class.
He's a good professor in my opinion, I just hated the course because I don't want to learn about clouds and stuff but, still passed even with me not attending the zooms.
Super passionate about Metrology which makes class more interesting. Grades are based on weekly quizzes & discussions, 4 exams, and a super easy project. Many of the questions can be found in notes/online/textbook. It's not necessary to purchase the textbook. Attendance isn't necessary, but he does iClicker most classes that counts towards grade.
Aldrich will give you real life experiences and examples. I laughed at least once every lecture and he was very easy to follow along to. Lots of little grades throughout the semester, but they are super easy to complete. Great professor and knows what he is talking about!
Prof. Aldrich was a great professor. A really nice and engaging guy who really knows his stuff. The lectures were most of the class, but he managed to make the note taking process more enjoyable, as his lectures were always informative and not boring. Would absolutely take again
Aldrich is a great professor, his lectures are interesting and he is very nice. Easy A if you put in the effort. Go to lecture! A couple times he will give extra credit points for going to lecture. Very easy honors credit, it's the same lecture as the non honors section, same content and tests as the regular section, and barely any extra work.
He is super fun and nice! i never thought i would be interested in this class but he makes it fun to learn, will help a lot before exams and gives extra credit!
Eric would rather watch you fail than help you succeed. As an upper level atmospheric science student, I was expecting to learn challenging concepts in this course. Whenever we would approach those concepts, his explanations would only be surface level and push it off for "another class." This is a 4000 level course, what is the "next class?!"
I'm glad I was able to take this class with Professor Aldrich! It's not always an easy class, so you do have to work hard and hold yourself accountable for your own performance--it is a 4000 level course, after all. He's always available in his office to go over certain topics, grades, and so on. Overall, a really great class with fun material!
My favorite professor at Mizzou. Hes a great teacher and Meterology is an easy class
You don't need the textbook or even to show up to class as long as you monitor iClicker. Aldrich is very kind and makes sure the tests and assignments are as easy as possible. He wants everyone to get an A.
Professor Aldrich is great! Makes meteorology a lot of fun with little work outside of class. There are weekly discussions, two projects (one group, one solo), and 4 exams. The online textbook is optional but it was helpful at times. Attendance is important with random iClicker questions.
9/10 really liked it! fill-in-the-blank lecture notes, recorded lectures, interesting content, all around great! Aldrich is a great professor and lecturer- his lecture pace is great, he adds jokes and anecdotes- truly iconic
Overall great professor, but the lectures would get boring at times.
The content was pretty easy but I found the tests extremely difficult, even with studying. They were extremely annoying and tedious, but other than that, it was fine and there a bunch of chances to get a good grade.
Cool guy.
He called students out in class. Exams were not super tough but there were weekly DB and chapter quizzes. No final exam
Super helpful and knows what he's talking about. iClicker is taken for accuracy but you get some points if you do it. Tests are a little hard but nothing terrible.
Eric Aldrich is one of the best professors at Mizzou. If you're looking for an easy way to get your science & upper level credit, take this class. He does use iClicker sporadically, so go to class every once in a while. The only homework he gives are discussion posts & in-class activities. The quizzes are online and super easy as well.
Professor Aldrich was a former meteorologist so he is highly qualified! He is very nice, but doesn't tolerate disrespect. Topics are interesting, but style of class is strict lecture. Little homework load with easy assignments, but tests are rather difficult. 95% assignments are online. I would recommend his Severe and Hazardous Weather class.
Prof. Aldrich is so funny. I loved his class and the examples/anecdotes he used to keep students engaged. The content was interesting. Sometimes he uses iClicker, so I always go to class, but he doesn't take attendance. Definitely recommend if you're not into science but need to take a course for Gen Ed!
He has been my favorite professor at Mizzou so far. You can tell he loves his job which makes the lectures much more enjoyable. The class itself is somewhat hard but he throws in extra credit. Attendance is mandatory
awesome guy
Professor Aldrich is highly qualified, and cares deeply about what he teaches. I took his Severe Weather class, and LOVED it! Homework load was light, tests open note but quite difficult. He uses iClicker for attendance as a part of your grade, but attendance isn't required. Very lecture heavy course, but with interesting material. I recommend!
I never wanted to skip his class. He is the funniest teacher I have ever met. He will work with you to improve your grade if you go to office hours. Study for exams, do the weekly homework, and you'll pass easily.
Prof. Aldrich keeps his lectures interesting. Our 2 projects were fun, tests can be somewhat difficult.
While there were some difficult materials, Aldrich was an incredible professor. Very easy to talk to and a fair grader depending on what TA you are given. Understanding with absences.
Absolutely amazing! Eric is engaging and knowledgeable in his field and you can tell he just loves to teach. I was able to learn a lot without being overwhelmed with information. As long as you pay attention to the due dates you should be fine
He is a very lecture heavy professor but they are all super interesting. I took this class as a science credit and I'm glad I took this instead of Chem or Bio. The exams can be kinda tricky but most of the questions come from the Unit Quizzes on Canvas and iClicker. The class is very heavy on iClicker but TA can adjust your grade. Would take again!
Whatever you do during your time at Mizzou, take a class with Eric Aldrich. The funniest, kindest man and most incredible professor. His class was fun, and he made learning the course content enjoyable to the point where I wished I had his class everyday. Make sure to do the homework on time, introduce yourself, study for the tests, and participate
professor aldrich was a great professor. I took this to fulfill the A & S science requirements. I took BIO 1010 and really did not like it but professor aldrich's meteorology class was a lot more interesting and not as tough as Bio 1010. Would recommend this for non-majors.
Aldrich clearly is very skilled at what he is teaching and it shows during class. Exams were a bit difficult for me but if you study you shouldn't have an issue at least getting an 80% on them. If you are respectful in class you'll have no issues but he has no problem calling out people who he views as disturbances in a 400 person lecture.
The man can yap for sure, but he keeps lectures interesting. Also he will call out students in a 400 person lecture, just don't be rude and you're fine.
Amazing professor with easy exams, but if you need it he gives tons of opportunity to make up for poor exam performances through projects, quizzes, and discussion boards. Hilarious guy, engaging lectures, I only got 50% on the iClicker (attendance) and still ended with an A. Stopped recording lectures a week in, but other than that almost perfect.
Lectures were so easy to follow and fun to go to. It's really easy to take notes and the lecture notes is basically the whole tests. There is a lot of content for each test so make sure you give yourself enough time to study but easy to understand concepts. Would 100% take again!
absolutely loved this class with him. always willing to help and making sure his students understand the materiel and succeed especially by giving multiple options for extra credit. heavy on clicker.
Funny guy who made it easy to follow during lectures. If he asks questions during lectures and then answers, he sometimes gives out extra credit for speaking up. Also, he shows up to class after exams; he likes to give out free test points to people who show up. Love this guy, and he is a good teacher.
Eric is an engaging and funny professor who makes learning enjoyable. Do the homework, study for exams, and participate in class - you'll do well. Unstuckstudy was super helpful for prep too.
Literally the best teacher that Mizzou has to offer and it's not even close.
I really liked Professor Aldrich, but I felt a bit misled by advisors when I was signing up for his course. They made it seem like it would be an easy A, but I ended up having to dedicate quite a bit of time/energy to studying just because of the amount of course content on each exam. That being said, he's super passionate about the subject!
He is a good and engaging professor, I enjoyed the lectures. Provides a good basis of understanding. One of my favorite professors.
Professor Aldrich is one of the best professors I have had. He makes every student feel welcome in his class. The best part about him is how fun he is. He makes every class engaging. This is the type of class that you are excited to go to. All of the assignments are easy and as long as you study for exams you should get a A. I recommend this class.
He is actually the best. Gives easy extra credit after tests to boost grades and knows that people aren't necessarily ATM majors
Pretty good professor overall. A few in class crash outs when people were talking but they were valid. Tests are easy enough if you study, enjoyable lectures.
Excellent prof! He has been one of my favorite professors at Mizzou and this class was fantastic! Would highly recommend!
Fantastic professor, especially for someone who is really invested in learning about the weather.
Hes the best. Yes, there is Iclicker but if you miss a few days it wont drop your grade. Material is pretty easy and has a lot of projects that are super easy and that are worth a lot of points. His classes are fun and tests are not difficult. If you just need a phsycial science class this is the one to take.
Literally the goat. If you fail his class, thats on you. Offers so many opportunities/resources for extra help outside of class, and his lectures are interesting.
I've never liked science classes very much but he's a funny and nice professor
One of the best professors at Mizzou. His class was moderate. The coursework wasn't hard, but you really have to understand the concepts to do well on the exams. He is super caring, and I really like how personable he was throughout the class.
So awesome 10/10 recommend taking his classes
if u r not an amazing test taker, don't take this class. u will not receive more than a B. Exams are 40% of ur grade and one bad exam will keep u from getting an A in the course. great guy tho. allegedly.
Great guy!
Genuinely so engaging. He is so passionate about meteorology and you can tell with his lectures. He is a master at using metaphors to explain complex topics. If you pay attention in class you'll have no problem with the tests, and if you can answer an odd question in class he might give you extra credit. 100% recommend.
Really engaging class and a very genuine guy. He's a former weather broadcaster for COMO and has a crazy background for the stuff he teaches. Very fun too. All the resources you need to succeed are available.
Professor Aldrich was one of my favorites. This class was entertaining, and you can tell he really enjoys teaching others about weather events. I did say attendance is mandatory because he does IClicker, and he does it on random days. Overall, I would totally take another one of his classes again
Extraordinary Professor clearly loves his work and his students and makes time even outside regular office hours to meet with them. Every lecture was engaging; you could tell he wanted everyone to understand and appreciate what he does, and he sets up his lectures so that even someone with no meteorological background can comprehend every concept
The absolute best professor that this university has to offer!!
Great class and great professor. Really nice to take a class that has such real world connections. Exams are easy if you study, come to class, and use the resources provided. 100% taking this class!
Number one in the world
I LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY HEART AND I WOULD TAKE HIS CLASSSSS AGAIN AND AGAIN. I WOULD CHANGE MY MAJOR FOR THIS MAN. HE IS THE GOAT AND I TAKE EVERY CLASS HE TEACHES.
The course I took was very easy. All online tests and almost no homework. The professor is great!
Such a wholesome man who genuinely just wants everyone to do well. Clearly passionate about Meteorology. The TAs did great too, they created very helpful study guides for the exams this semester. There were three projects which were all pretty fun to work on. It's a good, easy course where you'll learn some cool weather stuff!
