He is ungodly boring. Otherwise the class is ok. Occasional quizzes on blackboard on the reading assigments, but they are easy and he only grades you on the answers that you give to the question, "what did you find confusing about the reading?" I can't say much more, we haven't had enough classes yet.
Nice guy, but the lectures are useless and boring.

nice enough until you try to rechedule a test, i had to email the department head to get a makeup exam. maybe he's trying to be a hard ass since this is his first year
He's really laid back and his lectures are kind of pointless sometimes, but all I know is that everyone usually says that 122 is a difficult class, and it's easy with Anderson. Tests are simple and straightforward. Cool prof.
This class is ungodly hard. I suggest getting a tutor as soon as you can a dedicate at least 3 hours for the weekly homework assignments. He doesn't teach all to well and class alone won't suffice in learning the material. You could easily miss ever class and only come to test days and receive a grade as most people.
He cannot teach!!! The class is hard and you would need extra help to understand it as it is. If you can, take it at CCBC and transfer the credit cause it is not worth to get a bad grade at UMBC.
class was to early to stay awake
He's the best 122 professor there is. Keep up with the reading, hw, and talk to him about concepts at his review sessions. It takes effort but I think his ease through the class makes it interesting and not overbearing.
his tests are pretty straight forward if you study. Anderson is nice and offers extra help sessions to students who need it. He's new to UMBC and teaching large classes, but has done well.
class is a lot harder than it needs to be. main problem is TA grading homework too tough. one word: DC++
Lectures are sometimes boring and not very helpful. Smart guy though, can answer any questions you have. Homeworks are very tough and require lots of time (or just get solutions from the internet). Tests are fair and not too difficult. Final was also fair and not amazingly hard. Don't know if he curves or not.
Not a bad teacher. Just make sure u study and understand the concepts. This class is not really that hard as long as u pay attention. I did not spend that much time on this class and got a high B in the class. Just don;t slack off. Do your homework and get help if you need it.
The homework is due at 9am and is not accepted late, no exam make up, u get a zero for them if not done on the test day. And they are to confuse you not test you.
Mr. Anderson is a great teacher. He explains concepts very well and if you go to lectures all the time it shouldn't be too hard for you to understand them. But don't slack off in this class cause it's hard catching up. If you have questions he's always willing to help and he offers review and study sessions. Work hard and you'll get a good grade.
Anderson is the man. The HW is tough, but his tests are much easier than the HW, so just go to every discussion class, get the HW solutions and make sure you understand the concepts, and you'll be fine. I slept in class for most of the second half of the semester and got a high B. Final exam was very simple and straightforward.
Professor Anderson might be the best teacher I've ever had. He explains concepts very clearly and it's obvious that he really cares that his students learn the material. He's very generous when it comes to help outside of class, and he knows the material very well. His sense of humor is excellent. I really don't have anything negative to say.
Very good at teaching the material. Makes it easy to understand, puts it in very accessible terms. The exams are fairly difficult, and there is a LOT of homework, including some pretty pointless "Reading Quizzes" which are due an hour before class, almost every class. Good teacher, but the class isn't very fun to take because of all the work...
this class was hard. theres a lot of work u need to do on your own. if u understnad the readings in the book theres really no point to show up at 8am for class cuz you dont learn much. u have to teach urself how to apply the concepts which is the hard part. hw is very tough but exams are easier. do the practice exams b/c they help a lot.
Tests are easy in this class (easier than you would expect though still difficult). All you need to know is how to manipulate equations.
Dr. Anderson is a really good teacher. The class is really hard and you have to read the book. If you have never had a Physics class in high school or had a good teacher in high school, you will not do well in this class. The only people that got above a C were the ones that had already had AP Physics and knew what was going on before.
Well above average. He's a nice guy to talk to outside of class, and will help you when and if he can. Homework is usually difficult (make sure you form a study group early), but the tests and final are always really fair and not too hard. Be prepared to do some work on your own, because he doesn't cover everything.
I don't think Physics 121 was that bad and I'm no genius. I think its all about how much work you put into it and whether or not you do all that you can do to understand the material. I wouldn't say that his tests are hard but the questions are often connected so if you mess up on one question, you could really mess up. Homework is difficult but if
Think that just because you did well in calc will mean that you'll do well in this class? Think again. I had the highest grade in my class but STRUGGLED in phys 121. If you never took phys before, you will suffer. NOT an easy class, NOT a good professor. This class made me hate college.
MUCH MUCH MUCH easier than any other physics professor in the history of physics
I loved this guys teachin.. I took PHYS122 and got an A. I've taken that class w/ kramer and he made me suffer to barely pass the class... guys, if ya wanna pass PHYS122, take with this guys.. no ambiguos questions.. go to his reviews just before the exams.. believe me.. some problems are exactly like examples
Very good professor who did a very good job covering the material in a clear, concise manner.
Seems like a pretty nice guy. Class is easy for the first couple weeks....until you can't withdrawal. Then he doubles the pace and throws in much harder course material. Final grade is based on 3 exams, Final exam, homework assignments (done online), and weekly quizzes in the discussion section where TA's are useless and completely incompetent.
There is a lot of difficult material in this course, but Anderson does a decent job of trying to simplify it in lecture. His exams are very straightforward and predictable if you study over the old exams. Getting a B is very possible even with no background...read the book, don't copy the online homework, and study old exams.
Had him for 121/122. Lots of work but no way can ppl say his lectures r bad. They're off da hook! Makes material interesting + easy 2 understand. Very witty + charming dude. Injects lots of humor (sometimes unwittingly) into lectures. Probably the ONE class I never fell asleep in. I'm HORRID at physics but gained much knowledge thanks to the prof.
good teacher, covers material well. the class isnt too hard, i received a B with only having a basic physics course in high school
Entered this class having taken physics in HS and was blown away at how different it was. Does NOT move from his curve, 7 points away from a B. Useless textbook. Had a 4.0 before taking this class in sophomore year. Received the highest exam grades in my calc1 class, but tragically crashed and burned in physics. Good luck.
Probably the most intense class I've ever had to take. His exams are tough as nails. Go to all the lectures and all the discussions, and take massive notes. It also helps to go to his end of week reviews on Fridays. He is very willing to help during his office hours for the homework. It's almost critical to have at least three study buddies.
Easiest Class in the university. Came to class just for CPS and went straight to sleep every day, got a 97% exam average. Do mastering physics legit and figure out what each equation on the help sheet is for and it will be a breeze.
An insane amount of work for one class; don't take it when you have other hard classes. Do his practice exams. He's extremely helpful if you need it. The trick is to never get behind the material. He started using CPS for lectures to make attendance mandatory, but gave everyone a perfect score anyway regardless of how many they answered.
He is great at lectures. The problems he does assign help make sure that you get a least a passing score on the exams. However you have to put a bit more effort to get the grade you want.
Dr. Anderson is a great teacher. Physics is going to be hard no matter what, but go to class, study your notes and really try on the Mastering Physics. Old Exams are a great way to test yourself before the actual exam, and time yourself too!! Dr. Anderson is funny and very willing to help all of his students. Stay after class and make a new friend!
The discussian portion of this class is worthless, in which you get these stupid long boring, repetitive packets that nobody does. The lecture is ok. This class starts out easy, but then gets alot of more difficult. And the online masteringphysics hw sucks balls. I aced the first test, got a D+ on the second, and probbaly completely failed the thir
Really Good Physics teacher, lectures are really informative but do lack demos
he is not good teacher, HW is hard as hell, you better get a study group , with out that you wont be able to pass this class. TA's are weird
Breaks it down pretty well for people new to physics, but people who did well in HS physics will still get it. Very approachable, and willing to help 1-on-1 if you come to him. Discussion is a little boring, but the HW piles up. Do your mastering physics, too, or it'll bite you in the end.
**First impressions only, may improve later on** Lost several points with me for forcing an 8 AM lecture three days a week. Clickers are cool, but don't use them if you don't know how to work them. Class starting out too simple - I learned all the one-dimensional kinetics in 9th grade. TA is condescending, class insulting to my intelligence so far.
Took 121/122 with him. I would have done better if I had paid more attention in lectures. Old exams are very useful study aids for the exams, so are his review sessions and the Mastering Physics review questions (which I should have done).
I had him for 121 last semester and 122 this semester. Seeing as he's your only option for this class, here are some tips: -go to class and TAKE NOTES -do the mastering physics with a friend; don't save it until the night before -use his office hours He is a fair, helpful teacher. If you fail, it will be because you didn't put in enough effort
He is one of the best professors I have ever had at UMBC! His lectures may be a bit long at times, and the classes are early, but he usually makes them interesting, and at his office hours he answers he is very nice and patient to answer all of your questions. I highly recommend you go to the review sessions- he tells you whats on the exams.
He is a good teacher. 122 is much easier than 121 and the discussions are more interesting. The only real complaint I have about him is that he doesnt give the answers to the old exams so while studying you can think that you are doing it right but then take the test and fail it. He does what he can to help you pass. i shouldve failed 121 but didnt
A good professor, tries to make the class interesting. Gives a lot of homework. He wants his student to pass. Exams are easy if you do all the Mastering Physics, text book and discussion problems. The exam questions are some variant of those problems. He also has a useful pre-exam review session. Overall, he is an average teacher with decent exams.
Takes a hard class and makes it harder. Honestly, as a Bio major I don't think I should take physics, but at least 111 should be doable. He isn't helpful with his office hours and doesn't give you a straight answer when you have a question. Yes hes nice, but nice won't get you an A. Take it at community college if you have the option.
He is very clear at explaining concepts. Good professor for such a low level class.
I had him in 2008.His exams model the practice exams. Don't forget to look over old exams because he uses some old questions too.He has endless patience when answering questions. His lectures are very clear. Mastering physics homework is EXTREMELY difficult so you need to work in groups and google helps too. The textbook is nearly useless.
He's a very helpful professor and super approachable. Keeps lectures interesting with a mix of problems, conceptual, and live demonstrations time to time. HW is due every day, but it's 2-4 problems so it's do-able. Definently form a study group, it pays off! Recommend him as a professor, he is a knowledgable and is great at explaining!
Had Anderson for both phys 111, 112. i hate physics. he is a decent professor but goes on telling you how to derive eqns that are already on the eqn sheet so it just confuses you. plan accordingly bc there is a lot of time devoted to the course. online physics, wkbk hw, studying, and pre/post labs. i'm glad i'm done
Not very articulate, but his exams are easy. He's always calm and will never insult you for asking even the dumbest question. Hw (MP)SUCKS, if you have no friends you'll cry during it everytime. He has a hard time explaining what's in his head, but read the book and you + redo probs and stuff from lecture notes, old exams and MP before exams = A.
This is a fantastic professor- I disagree with some comments on here in which students feel he confuses the class with derivations. He establishes a basis for learning the material and applies several disciplines in the lectures to keep you glued. Mastering Physics is difficult at times but is very helpful. Je has plenty of tutoring hours to help.
Loved Dr. Anderson! His tests were great. I feel they really reflected the material taught in lecture. Take him!
Not an easy professor, but you will get an A as long as you're prepared. You should go to class and take notes. Absolutely study the past exams cuz he generally uses the same questions, changing the format a little. textbook doesn't rele help cuz he kinda simplifies the concepts. just know the basic physics and study a bit more = "A"
I had Anderson for 111 and 112, and there was definitely a difference in the complexity of the material. Physics 112 is much more difficult, and he does not always do the best job of explaining it. But the past exams are really helpful, as are the tutors.
He teaches the material well! Use past exams and tutors at physics tutorial center for help, they are great! Studying required me about 8-10 hrs per week.
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Anderson was very nice and approachable and had a sense of humor. He tried his best to get the class to understand the material by doing a lot of practice problems, most of which were similar to those on the tests. He also gives practice tests from previous semesters and they really help when studying for the tests.
I took Dr. Anderson's 111 and 112 courses and loved both. He does the best he can to explain the topics in the time he's given. He's ALWAYS willing to talk to students outside of class. He's also said that the material he focuses on and the way he approaches the material is based on MCAT expectations. I definitely recommend taking Phys with him!
Dr. Anderson is one of the best professors at UMBC. He simplifies difficult concepts and is always available for help or just to chat. His practice exams are very similar to the actual exams so if you study those, review the key concepts, and do a lot of practice problems then you're guaranteed an A or B.
Very good professor. From time to time he will use simple props to help teach, which makes it interesting. He is clear and can also be amusing. The homework is sometimes difficult but it is not too hard. Exams aren't hard. Overall great professor and I hope to get him again.
One of the better physics professors at UMBC. Fair, easy exams, totally prepares you and doesn't throw any curveballs. If you have an A average before the final then you don't have to take it.
Dr. Anderson is, by far, one of the best profs. at UMBC. I hated physics before I took his class; I love it now. He is VERY approachable, his lectures are clear, and his tests are fair, reflecting the types of problems done in class. I don't know if he still teaches 111, but if you can choose between him and Jacobson, take Anderson!!!
Dr. Anderson is fair, consistent, and very clear in all respects - lecturing, homework, discussions, and exams. You will never be surprised by anything you see on exams. He's the best professor to have for PHYS 122.
Dr. Anderson is a clear lecturer. If you have an A average at the end of the semester, the final is optional. If you attend class, you'll never be surprised by anything on the exams. Discussion questions are most difficult, followed by homework, then exams. There are extra credit opportunities on homework assignments. Highly recommend.
Good Professor. I was afraid how I do in this class but it was really fairly doable. The most important thing is to do your homework and understand all the material legit or else you'll make stupid mistakes on the exam. Make sure to attend class!! and Write everything from the board.
He's fair. His exams are clear and if you understand the general gist of the topics you will do well. Lab is a bit pointless if you have a bad TA. His lectures get off topic sometimes but he does go by the syllabus. Make sure to review the mathematics of each topic on your own.
Good prof. that explains concepts and uses real life examples to deepen understanding. A dynamic lecturer. Clear expectations and exams are just like old exams and class examples. Online hw can be a little challenging at times, but manageable due to multiple attempts. Use book to ace lab hw. Attendance enforced with clickers; easy points.
Excellent professor. I learned a lot from him. When webassign crashed he apologized for "the waste of [our] time." Good person, good professor. Reads and responds to blackboard discussions and truly cares if the students learn.
You will end up teaching yourself the material. He goes over powerpoint questions but none are related to what's on the exam, nor is the online homework. His practice tests are going to be your only tool. Hard to pay attention in class because of his lack of enthusiasm and delivery of material. Unless you're previously good at physics, don't take
Dr Anderson is the best physics professor for 111 and 112. His exams are super easy. He helps you if you ask and is brilliant and super nice. He won't try to trick you with questions and is very clear. If there is an option DEFINITELY pick him
A pooload of homework but exams are a joke
Incredible professor. Not super serious during lecture, often funny, and very clearly explains topics that seemed confusing in the book. Also a pretty lax grader; you pretty much get a free 50% of your grade just by attending discussion / lecture, and doing homework. Very similar to PHYS 121.
Consistently received an A average in HW, Lab, and class participation. Made one math mistake on last question on test an it screwed up entire grade. Received an 89.3, refused to bump it up. Don't make dumb mistakes and do all the work and you'll be fine. Tutoring center helps a lot.
To get an A in this class, you have to consistently perform very well on his exams (nothing lower than a very high B). Your homework and lab grades need to be high as well. His exams are generally pretty easy, but be careful not to make too many mistakes because one slight mistake can cost you a letter grade. But he's still a decent teacher.
Dr. Anderson is one chill dude! He's funny and fairly lenient, although I thought the exams were tough (but I'm also not an engineer or anything). I really enjoyed having him as a professor, and I think most people do too. A word of advice: do all the homework and all the discussion work, he gives bonus points at the end of the semester!
Excellent professor! Small things like going to class, doing well on weekly quizzes, and completing homework add up and do wonders for your grade. No final if you have an A average. Highly recommend!!!
This class was SUPER boring. Exams were easy retrospectively. Simple mistakes cost you several points. Not a bad class. Be sure to do MasteringPhysics (most answers are google-able). Labs are easy enough. Scattered clicker points throughout the semester. Take notes on the process of deriving answers. WIKIS ARE YOUR BFF!
Anderson is a pretty good professor! He's very thorough when going over problems and examples and brings in visual aid and demonstrations to help you understand the information. Posts sample tests before an exam and pretty much tests right off of it. If you have questions, he's more than happy to help.
One of my favorite professors of all time. I hated Physics before taking this class, but Anderson makes every effort to keep class as interesting as possible, provides every resource you could ask for, and really cares about his students. He's a chill dude who provides tough-but-fair exams and all the tools you need to pass. TAKE HIM!
Easy physics course because of previous exams he posts online. He explains his material very well in class. The homework is the only tough thing about the class but if you listen during his lectures, you will do well on them. Also, if you have an A by the end of the year, you can skip the cumulative final altogether.
His powerpoint slides are 1 clicker Question. If you miss a day of class and try to look back you'll see one question that does not even have an answer.
Assigns genuinely helpful assignments while giving well-thought lectures. Highly recommend.
Great teacher! Seems more like a friend than a professor, which is more than any student could ask for. Made a few mistakes during lecture, but he's very fair and he really wants all his students to pass and get good grades. He's been one of my favorite teachers over my near 7 semesters of schooling.
Anderson was the best! Clickers did not count against you if you were wrong and his lectures centered on core concepts/practice problems rather than theory. Quizzes and exams were similar to the old ones that he posted. If you do the work, read the book, and show up to class, it's not hard to get a good grade.
Could not ask for a more patient, enthusiastic, crystal clear teacher.
Poor grasp of subject matter. Lectures are lifted from smartphysics pre-readings. Only lectures on the bare basics of the topic. Exams range from cruel to cake walk, and he doesn't seem to care when they drop everyone's overall grade by a whole letter. Class average for second exam was 50%, no curve. Can't control a large classroom.
One of the best professors at UMBC! He greatly emphasizes on concepts rather than the dry math aspect of physics. He genuinely wants everyone to do well in the class. I loved how the course is organized; the pre-lecture in smart physics prepares you for what is covered in lecture. Do the practice exams and show up to class prepared and consistently
He changed his style of lectures for the worse when the curriculum changed. Previous semesters said had really great lectures and I had seen a few of them online but they were nothing like his current lectures. He just goes over questions from the online homework but the website gives you a better explanation. He is a nice guy overall though
Physics 121/122 profs use Smartphysics as a supplement to doing their job. His lectures(confusing & unstructured), in previous semesters were very good, but as usual are ruined because he thinks the student learns from smartphysics. Exams are pretty simple if you happen to go over the material on your own time. Don't expect sample exams/questions
Eh, he's okay I guess. I found that he actually teaches very little of the mathematical side of physics. He's not bad with teaching the conceptual, I guess. I wouldn't recommend him, but I see why people like him.
Really nice and intelligent guy. He teaches the conceptual side more than the mathematical side of physics. Goes over concepts and does practice problems in lecture. I recommend printing the lecture outlines out rather than trying to jot down everything in a notebook. Exams were really easy (B avg) just do the provided wikis for practice.
His lectures aren't the best but it is sometimes useful. He never uses the textbook so only buy it if you need it. Exams are super easy. He gives quizzes once every week which are also very easy. Overall an easy class. I didn't buy the book and learned everything from FlyptPhysics lectures. (Yes that is pretty enough)
He's terrible at responding to emails regarding any questions. Don't bother asking questions in lecture since he does a poor job explaining. Save questions for the TAs. He'll let you ask questions about your exam grade, but won't have a solutions guide to let you see in his office to know where you made mistakes. Avoid taking him if possible.
Anderson is very approachable outside of class. If you bring the handouts, follow along, and go back over them in your own time or with him in office hours after lecture, it is SUPER helpful. Reading the book definitely helps, and there are before-class quizzes to do before each week. Overall, an easy class if everything is kept organized.
For a UMBC professor, many of those who don't teach well, he's amazing! He provides lecture outlines prior to class and then goes through them during class so you can go home and look over what was taught in class. He does lecture, but you are expected to do some self-teach on your own. Exams aren't that hard. You can do well if you put in time in.
He's not that great at answering questions, but he is good at explaining concepts. His tests are straightforward. Do the wikis and practice tests the week of the test. If you genuinely try them and understand them, you'll probably get an A or B on the tests. You can work with other people on quizzes. This class was not hard, and he's a nice person.
Dr. Anderson is a great professor! Lectures are great, the syllabus is clear, and the tests are fair (I am someone who is very bad at physics). I would definitely recommend taking his class.
His teaching style was mediocre at best most topics were not explained very well. Did not follow any text book only flipitphysics which limited the material you could learn from
Probably the best professor in umbc. Lectures are clear and he's super friendly. Posts solutions to all exams and quizzes right afterwards. Posts sample exams with solutions. If you study the quizzes, sample exams and wikis, you'll get an A. Homework is harder than exams, don't sweat it. Use Walid Hamarneh physics youtube channel. He solves them.
This is a hard class, but Anderson makes it a little easier. Because he grades based on total points earned the whole semester, you can have bad test scores and still get a B. The highest exam score I had was a 78. DO ALL THE LITTLE THINGS! All the hw's, quizes, checkpoints, discussion and use that to boost your grade. Don't skimp out on things.
Exams are extremely easy as long as you do the practice exams and wikis. (They are almost the same). Quizzes in class can be done w friends. Anderson doesn't care much about what students are doing during lecture and is very easygoing. Easy A class.
I'd be able to better rate this professor if I ever paid attention in his class. You honestly didn't need to to do well. I had never taken physics before but he makes it super super easy. Exams were verbatim the same as practice exams/wikis. Only downside was TONS of busy work outside class and labs were a pain but overall very doable.
Approachable. Very nice and easygoing person. It's very clear how this class is graded from the get-go, and depending on your discussion section he seems to ensure the TAs reflect that clarity. DO ALL THE LITTLE THINGS. I've got a 54% exam grade and still have a B average from all the homework. Exams are difficult; make sure you study for them.
Dr. Anderson really knows his stuff and is good at answering questions that you may ask. He gives a lot of wiggle room with grading on everything but exams so come to class to get your participation points, come take the group quizzes, and come to discussion. I had a low C exam average and still got a B in the class!
Anderson is a pretty decent professor, he explains concepts quite well but you have to practice to really understand it. For his class there were 6 exams, one on each unit but the last due to time. Each exam had an individual part and a group part (group was from your discussion). Lots of homework, and this class makes you work but you should be ok
Dr. Anderson's explanations are clear and his lectures are useful. Make sure to emphasize the homeworks and do them well. Exams are extremely easy, but make sure you follow the problem solving guidelines or you will lose many points on the big problem at the end of every exam. The final exam is also super easy. I would take more classes with him.
Hes one of the best professors Ive had so far. He makes grading for free responses incredibly clear, and goes thru almost every kind of problem. Practice exams are super similar to the exams. Avoid using chegg and go thru the all the practice and hw yourself an A is not out of reach.
Doesn't explain concepts too well. Homework is pretty different from the lectures, but if you understand the homework then you should be fine. Be prepared for a lot of work. He also makes you wake up before 8 on fridays to take a weekly quiz. This class will take a lot of time out out of your week.
Anderson was a really good lecturer and his lecture slides were clear and easy to follow. The class was hell b/c we had a total of 6 exams and 1 final. It was a ton of work, but he was easy to go to outside of class. He was really good one on one and in lecture as well. He honestly seemed excited to teach physics too, which was nice to see.
If you want to teach yourself physics, this will be a great class for you. FlipIt Physics is useless and the professor's lectures are incredibly dull. You can get a B without really learning anything though. Also, I hope you like waking up early in the morning on Fridays, because the weekly quizzes are at 8 AM. Textbook wasn't used once, don't buy.
I really enjoyed the online format and believe it was def better than the in person. Weekly quizzes were based on the homework and the discussion section so as long as you know how to do both, you were fine. Make sure to get the conceptual basis down. I used orgo tutor and khan academy which were very solid resources. Make sure to go to OH too!
Doesnt teach anything beyond the bare basics in very short lectures so homework is hours longer than it needs to be and extremely frustrating. Fri quizzes are worth 60% of your grade and are so short each question is about .5% of your final grade. Both teachers are like this just do a transfer credit.
by far a horrible teacher. lectures are time consuming and boring only scrapping the surface of a topic and he makes his Friday 8AM quizzes nothing like homework or lecture. really just a horrible teachers who just needs to change his quizzes, especially if his class average is below a C. honestly just needs to be fired.
Lectures were rarely thorough enough to cover the homework material but pretty much everything is online anyways. Quizzes are at 8am on Fridays and the discussion is the only place you really learn the material. I wouldn't recommend him if you're not strong in math/science.
If you're a physics major, hope you've taken physics before. If not, take ANY other science course. Lectures assume you already know the material from useless pre-lectures. Homework is near impossible without online resources or prior knowledge. Discussions are long packets without any "Discussion". There are 6 tests worth 10% each and a 15% final.
This class wasn't easy. Either you have previous knowledge of physics, or you really need to study and get well acquainted with physics. I personally love physics so this class was not too awful for me, but if you aren't either A. willing to put in 8-12 hours a week of just studying not including HW, or B. have prior physics knowledge, good luck.
I don't know why Prof A doesn't have a higher rating. Seriously cares about his students, generous attendance policy, lenient grading. Extra exam so that the total weight per test is lower. Yes, the content was a little difficult; it's physics. Ask TAs questions during discussion and you'll do fine. Didn't use textbook at all.
Dr. Anderson is an amazing professor! He was incredibly organized, his lectures were clear, and he really cares about his students. The class had 6 exams, which sounds stressful, but it actually worked better than having 3 midterms. His lecture notes and the homework prepare you for the exams, so if you attend class and study hard, you'll be good
This is a hard curriculum, but that has nothing to do w Dr. Anderson. This is about the best, most accessible, & effective kind of teacher you'll find in college. Dont go in expecting this to be like hs, but do the work and youll receive tons of help/resources, a well organized class, and a caring, dynamic, and effective professor.
Anderson is a great professor, he is very good at lecturing, although the material and tests are just hard. Test averages were always C's. 8am Friday exams were tough, no extra credit offered, and no drops, so you need to study a lot for the exams. Homework was not too hard, show up to lecture or you might not pass.
Eric Anderson is great! The class itself requires a lot of time, and can be bad for commuters. My discussion session was at 7pm. But I digress. Anderson himself is very encouraging and provides an abundance of material for students to succeed. Sometimes, his lectures would drag on. But that's my only criticism of him. Wish I could take him for 122!
I took this course for the accelerated summer session. Anderson made the workload manageable and kept his lectures engaging. Be prepared for a lot of quizzes and exams with hardly any dropped grades. Time management is key.
Probably the best lecturer at UMBC. Anderson is hard to beat and if you can adapt to his style you'll pass with flying colors. Exams and especially homework are hard if you don't fully understand the material so there is a big time commitment. He is very nice and approachable and wants everyone to pass, so take him if you get the chance.
Great professor. Had some good lectures and provided plenty of ways to earn points throughout the semester. You'll miss participation points if you don't come to class and do clicker questions. Physics can get a little difficult but if you do the work it's an easy pass.
The class was great and easy to get by. the grading criteria were clear and the TAs (in my section at least) ere very hepful
he explained really well in the lectures and the clicker was just for participation thankfully, he also gave us past exams for review and it helped a lot with the actual exams, the TA/LAs were reliable with both homework help and during discussion, i think the class is easy to pass if you study and use the resources he gives you
An absolutely amazing professor who is supportive and helpful for a class that would typically be difficult.
If you're great at cramming, this class will be a breeze. We have biweekly exams and he posts past exams for each of them. Lots of repeated questions, so if you can cram study those the night before, you'll be good for the exam. Besides that, lots of homework, and just gotta attend the weekly discussion for that participation grade.
Very down to Earth guy who clearly wants his students to learn. Lectures are very helpful for learning the content, discussion is rather tedious as it's just a packet you have to complete as a group once a week. Overall a good professor who makes Physics quite manageable.
Anderson is a cool guy. His lectures aren't super helpful imo, but the practice exams are very similar to the actual exams and he's an easy grader. He's the only prof. whose office hours I've been to and he was very down to earth and helpful. As long as you do the homework and go to discussion you'll do fine.
Overall great teacher, passionate about what he does, explains clearly and conisely, you will learn during the lectures. He uploads pre-lectures for us to learn before class, then we have the lectures, homework, and the discussions. Anything above 80% rounds to a 100%.
Professor Anderson keeps the class engaging with helpful resources and a supportive approach. Attendance is mandatory, but that's part of what makes this physics course manageable. Unstuck AI is great for prepping alongside the textbook-free lectures.
Really difficult hw (not by prof); 60% is exam and he changes it up each semester (practise exams available); discussions are graded by participation; really important you grind hw & discussions; no extra credit; nice professor, but difficult class; if not done physics before, will be hard. 15% is final exam;10% hw; 10% disc. FRQ graded leniently.
Well organized, understands the material well. Very classy. The class is gonna be hard but he makes it feel fair. Good professor.
Took this class Spring '25, it was good. There's 6 exams, making up 65% of your grade, and anything above 80% ON HW gets rounded to a 100. He's a good lecturer and goes through problems well most of the time. He posts old semesters' exams, so studying is straightforward. There's no reason to fail if you actually dedicate the time for hw and tests
Lectures could be hard to follow, but he worked many practice problems while explaining the concepts. His exams were extremely straight forward and pretty easy. The practice exams (previous semester exams) he posted were very similar to the exams given which made getting an A more than doable.
Be ready for a lot of exams, especially if you're like me who is not used to biweekly tests. If you are not an exam person all I can say is study a lot, and learn from your past mistakes.
Good guy. He cares about the students. The class is extremely time-consuming if you aren't familiar with the concepts. There are 6 mid terms in total a final so your grade is pretty much dependent on your exam scores.
